It's spring break next week which means I get to work from home, which means my brain is like "we can work on ALL THE PROJECTS!! *elmo fire gif*" when realistically, knowing myself, I will *maybe* work on like one thing, not make much progress, and be mad at myself by the end of the week for not getting more done.
I'm sort of learning (through some group therapy) how this ties into my adhd but that just makes me kind of squint at it like "ok but how do I NOT do that then?"
Anyway there might be a local doll meetup in early May so let's see if having some kind of timeframe kicks my ass into finishing customizing moshang xD not that I'll likely bring them because they're so big but still. Maybe dollhua can come since he's the smallest of my bjds. Or I'll just bring my little mermaid and the bunny bjd, since I do plan on testing the liquid varnish/ matte medium for sealants because msc is such a finicky bitch.
And looking at the waiting rooms, seems like dream valley is right about 6 months, so I should have the vanora head hopefully by early June and can spend summer working on her and Faolan. Hopefully.
#quilleth in real life#quill's bjd adventures#looking forward to going to a meetup! ive gone to one but i only had moriko and she was blank#also looking forward to wfh. i am SO tired of being here all the time#like how is this more exhausting than my other jobs (it's probably the boredom)#group therapy is interesting. i missed one session because i felt like shit but the handouts are informative

While Joseph, Miran and Moriko all talked, something... Weird happened. Weirder then usual. There was a glow that came from Joseph. A glow that was connected through a tether that had been connected to him by Qi and the many wonders that it brought by masters of its craft. It snagged him and the other two, and then, like a fishing rod, pulled them roughly to a reality they were not supposed to be in.
They landed roughly in front of great stone walls and a gate with fractal protections and inlaid with images of many kitsune bowing and scraping on the floor in either worship, or in deference.
They were certainly not in Kansas anymore.
The feeling was strange and before either of them could do anything they were yanked away. A normal day now turned upside down as the two barely had time to think before they arrived, and what they saw they couldn't believe.
Moriko and Miran recognized this from stories that they use to be told and read. This was a lot like what they thought ancient human sects might look like. The two were a bit in awe, and a bit ashamed that they were in simple clothing. Though the images did make them feel a little uncomfortable.
"Joseph, we should be careful here. Something powerful has brought us here, and this might be our ancestors afterlife." Miriko said hoping he'd take her caution seriously.

Moriko and Mikey 1, 3, and 8?
First date?
Instead of a night out, Mikey and Moriko had a night in for their first date. Once he found a babysitter for Takumi (thank you, Splinter!), Mikey handled the snacks, the video games, and the cozy setting. He got Moriko addicted to Yokai Crossing while he played his fighting platform Silver Sentry: Revenge of Malignus.
(At first, he wasn’t sure how Moriko was going to like video games, but…once that tail started going, he got his answer! Now they play games as a couple.)
3. Who buys flowers, what kind, how often?
That’s Mikey! Although, more ‘obtain’ than ‘buy’, but he tries to leave money behind…he’s not really sure what kind he’s grabbing, but he tends to buy them whenever Moriko’s looking to dye her latest weaving project. So far, he’s noticed her favorite to work with are marigolds!
8. Who cooks, and are they good at it?
Both do! Mikey uses cooking as a way to introduce his dimension’s cuisine to Moriko, while Moriko uses cooking as a way to create hearty meals for the people she starts to view as family. Sometimes their attempts are…a bit of a failure—breaded pork cutlets in Japanese curry comes to mind—but for the most part, the two of them can whip up some pretty damn good food for each other and the rest of the Hamato clan.
That said, if the spice level has gone up in each dish since Moriko’s arrival, well…that’s no one’s business but hers.

the sweet things in life (tsukishima kei x reader)
previous || next
chapter 11: weekend tournament
You were happy that you were on good terms with Mei and Moriko again. You had forgotten how nice it was to not have your entire life revolve around schoolwork and your club. Plus, you could tell them about all the guys without any judgement, since neither of them were volleyball fangirls (even if Mei seemed like she would be). As a matter of fact, you were texting Mei, trying to pass the time on the bus ride. The team was headed to Tokyo again, this time for a tournament. You were sitting next to Tsukishima (so as to not make the same mistake as you did on the way to the training camp), who was sitting stone-faced listening to his music and staring out the window.
You smiled when you noticed his side profile. He was one of those guys blessed with naturally beautiful, long lashes. It made you a little jealous that guys could have effortlessly outstanding eyelashes while many a girl struggled with theirs. The slope of his nose wasn't very defined, instead it was long and thin, but it still made his face alluring. And don't even get you started on his lips (that you definitely hadn't dreamed of having on yours). He was pretty. That was the best way to describe him, plain and simple.
He must've noticed you staring at him because when you snapped out of your dreamy daze his golden brown eyes were staring intensely into yours. It took all of your self control to keep from leaning in and kissing him. You maintained your manager decorum, of course. You knocked knees with him mockingly before turning away to see how everyone else was doing. You heard him scoff playfully and kick your foot.
You opted to ignore him, though, because Yachi was excitedly showing you some designs for a Karasuno volleyball 'logo' she had made for fun. She was a very talented drawer, and she had told you it was a real passion of hers. They were pretty impressive sketches, though some of them could definitely be improved.
That was able to pass the time, because sooner than you could believe the bus had reached its destination: a weekend tournament which had no effect on any of the other qualifiers or interhigh. Basically, it was just to serve as a fun and helpful side competition for teams to play with others.
Walking in, Kiyoko began to pull you and Yachi away from the rest of the team. You mouthed to Tsukki for him to 'save you a seat', though you have no idea if he even understood because he merely stared at you blankly.
You carried out all of your standard manager duties, though your load was about half of what it had been now that Yachi was becoming more established in her role. You guys met up with the other managers to consult with the referees and see what needed to be set up and brought. After, you filled up six water bottles and brought the carrying case up into the stands, where the boys were. You saw there was in fact a seat saved for you next to Tsukishima, with his bag in the other seat. It was kind of weird to not see Yamaguchi attached to his hip, but you couldn't say you weren't happy to see him save you a seat.
Maneuvering around some of the upperclassmen, you made your way over and collapsed next to Tsukki, setting the carrier in the seat next to you.
"Hey" you smiled cheekily at him, slightly exasperated from the trek you had just made. You watched as he side-eyed you before snickering to himself. You gave him a look and dramatically 'hmphed' before crossing your arms, mirroring him. He only shook his head and pulled out his phone. It was a touch screen, slightly newer than yours. You watched what he was doing over his shoulder, which was scrolling through a news tab and stopping on one about paleontology. 'Such a nerd' you thought to yourself. You lost interest and flipped open your phone to text your friends and half-watch the match below to try and pass the time before Karasuno would play.
"Is Fukurodani here?" you absentmindedly questioned, not taking your eyes off of your phone.
"Bokuto is on the court right now, (L/n)" Asahi lightly chuckled.
"Oops" you finally looked to the court and were unsure how you had ever missed him to begin with. He was just as loud and boisterous as he had been during the training camp. You swore you heard Tsukishima let out a signature 'tch', but you didn't dignify it with a response. You stuck your tongue out at him teasingly before you heard Daichi.
"Alright guys, we should probably start stretching" he stood up. The guys excitedly got up, and you put your phone away in your bag before standing. They would be playing some team you hadn't heard of before from Tokyo. You watched them do their regular stretches in the hallway before you all made your way into the gym so they could begin their warmups.
-----
After winning their first match, Karasuno would face Fukurodani. You were sure you could already hear Bokuto blabbing on about getting to play against Hinata and Tsukishima. Speaking of the tall boy, you had been mesmerized by him during the first match.
Kiyoko had put you in charge of marking stats, since Yachi still wasn't confident enough that she would do it right. You actually enjoyed it, even though it could sometimes take you out of the general excitement that the rest of the team felt because you had to focus. You stood next to Yachi, so that she could watch the game and help in case you missed anything (not that you ever did, you were a very meticulous manager).
Daichi was up to serve. Asahi, Tsukishima, and Kageyama were all in the front row, while Noya and Tanaka were in the back (Coach Ukai had decided to start with the regular lineup and would switch players out as the match progressed). You were doing a decent job keeping up with the boys fast-paced actions, though you paid more attention to the front row since that was the area that was usually hardest to keep up with.
That was when Tsukishima blocked the other player's opposite hitter. You quickly put a tally near his name under the block section (which he almost always had the most of) and looked up from the clipboard only to make eye contact with him. You felt your stomach drop and for a second considered the possibility that it could have been a coincidence.
You realized that was highly unlikely when the other team called for a timeout and he came to stand right next to you.
Takeda took the opportunity to give his own encouraging talk and congratulate the guys on their playing so far. You were doing your best to pay attention to him and nod along with what he was saying, when you felt a hand on yours bring the board up near your eye level. In awe, you looked up and were met with none other than Tsukki, eyes locked intently on the board for several seconds before shifting to you.
"What do you think you're doing?" you did your best not to trip over your words. It was hard when his giant hands were still over yours. You also kept your voice quiet so you wouldn't take eyes away from Takeda. He only gave you a snarky smirk.
"Just want to make sure you're actually paying attention" he whispered, and you swore you felt literal chills down your spine. He finally removed his hands from yours and it took all of your self control to not reach for one again.
This crush was getting ridiculous, but it was just so hard to deny.
The Fukurodani game was admittedly much more exciting, likely because they were better and you knew more of their players than the previous opponents. You brightly smiled at Bokuto as he excitedly waved at you and Yachi. Yachi's eyes widened at the attention and you gave her a playful jab. She looked over to you with an equally surprised look before smiling and even lightly laughing along with you.
You turned your attention to the court to see the regular starting lineup waiting for the ref. Glancing around to make sure everyone was in place, you locked eyes with Tsukki again, giving him a smile and a small wave. In return, he gave you a somewhat comical peace sign though you didn't know if he was smiling back. You had to hold back a laugh and even bigger smile by covering your mouth with your hand, which caused him to smirk and turn away.
Yachi jabbed you with a knowing look on her face, which caused your own to heat up. Clearly, you were being obvious.
As the match progressed, you kept tallying stats and conversing with Yachi whenever you could. You were happy that you were gaining a close girl friend that would be around the rest of your high school career, at the very least.
Things became interesting when Bokuto was in the front row at the same time as Tsukishima. As one of the top aces in Japan, it was no small feat to stop Fukurodani's captain. That was why you couldn't help but wince when Tsukishima stopped a nasty looking one. Bokuto sulked and made some dramatic remark about how he would never hit another ball again, but you were more concerned with the quiet middle blocker, staring at his right hand.
When it came time to switch sides, you picked up a carrier of water bottles along with the first aid bag. Kiyoko had always been the one in charge of the first aid kit, though recently Yachi had been carrying it to learn and practice with. She offered it up to you for this match in exchange for the job of handing out water to all of the guys. Once at the other bench, you set down the carrier to see whose bottles you had picked up. You felt a tap on your shoulder and looked to see that it was Tsukishima who wanted your attention.
"Can you wrap my hand?" He was holding it out to you, and up close you could see how red it was.
"It's my job" you joked, but examined his fingers to decide what the best course of action would be. You took the roll of bandages out of the kit and began to wrap his pointer and middle finger together. He watched you intently as you moved on to quickly fix up his pinky. You took a leap and placed a kiss on it when you were done, turning away before you could see his reaction.
Hinata caught sight of the two of you and bounced over to ask you to wrap his fingers, too. Tsukishima regained his composure and rolled his eyes before thanking you and stepping away. You were sure your heart was going a million miles a second.
With all of the guys back on the court, you were surprised to see the coaching staff and fellow managers staring at you.
"What?" you looked behind you, half expecting Coach Ukai's grandfather to be standing there the way they were looking in your direction.
"You should know, (L/n). He never asks to have his fingers wrapped." Kiyoko smiled.
"It's usually pulling teeth to get him to let anyone wrap them" Coach Ukai added. He only laughed and shook his head before turning his attention out onto the court and immediately getting into game mode.
Is that true?
-----
The guys lost to Fukurodani, but they had gotten the opportunity to try out several different lineups so none of you were too upset. After three more matches, Karasuno had unfortunately come third place in the bracket. As such, the team wouldn't be playing anymore that day, though they still wanted to stay to see what team would come out on top. The snack bar seemed to be calling your name. You were starting to get dizzy from how hungry you were, so you took some of your money with you and looked up at the prices. You decided on meat buns and only waited a little before the man behind the counter handed them to you.
You were in the middle of effectively stuffing your face when you felt a tap on your shoulder. With full cheeks you turned and were faced with Tsukishima, leaving you thoroughly embarrassed. He laughed a little at your ridiculous expression (he was still a rude teenage boy after all), though it didn't seem truly sinister when aimed at you. You swallowed as quickly as you could without choking on the bun and looked up at him expectantly. "Can I talk to you?" he questioned. His voice was low, and he was looking directly into your eyes. It was slightly unnerving.
You opted to nod, not fully trusting your words to come out. You thought it a little strange that he asked to talk and didn't just open a conversation with you like he normally did, but you waited for him to continue. A confused look made its' way to your face when he didn't show any sign of saying anything.
"I was hoping we could go somewhere that's quieter than this" he deadpanned, glaring at some poor preteen-aged kid who walked a little too close to him, loudly blabbing away about Nekoma. You quietly giggled at the look on his face and couldn't help but notice the imprint around his eyes from his goggles. It was cute, if not a little funny.
"After you" you bowed at him and followed him away from the snack bar and through the halls. On an entirely different note, this school made Karasuno seem tiny. It felt like forever before he finally stopped.
You looked up at him, trying to calm your heart at the realization that you were completely alone with your crush.
"I don't know how to say this without sounding like a loser" he suddenly interrupted. Your face immediately contorted into one of confusion.
"What do you mean?" you encouraged. "I want to be with you" he spoke, softer than before. If you had been drinking water, this would have been one of those moments where you spit it everywhere. No way...
"You know how hard it is for me to talk about how I feel. There's something about you that makes it so easy. And as much as it pisses me off, I haven't been able to stop thinking about you lately, (Y/n)" he went on. Was this a dream? Or were you dead? Maybe you were just delusional, that had to be it.
"I needed to just get this off my chest because I think I'll go crazy if I spend another day not telling you." You could've passed out, right there, right now.
Instead of coming up with a response to any of what he just said, you stood there like an idiot with your mouth open in shock. Because really, what can you say? 'Oh yeah that's great to hear. Not like I've been totally obsessed with you for a few weeks and thinking about you nonstop in a not-just-friends kind of way. And the other managers definitely didn't listen to me ramble on about you for twenty minutes uninterrupted. So yeah no that's awesome!'. You would totally scare him off!
"Are you just gonna stand there and make me feel like a dumbass or are you gonna say something back?" he sounded slightly annoyed. Your face fell at this, which he must've noticed because you heard him mumble a 'sorry'.
"You aren't a dumbass, Kei. I'm just surprised you feel the same way" you smiled. He covered his mouth, probably hiding his own. "I'll be with you" you finally answered definitively. You brightly smiled, and watched as he removed his hand from his mouth.
"Don't let it go to your head or anything" he feigned apathy. You playfully shoved him and then wrapped your arms around his torso in a tight hug. You felt his arms wrap around you and your heart fluttered.
You were overjoyed walking back towards your team's area in the bleachers, because now Tsukishima was by your side. Now that they were done playing, the majority were napping (save for Hinata, who was chowing down). The two of you sat back down in your seats, though now you sat closer to his. Your heart was still beating a mile a minute, so you settled for less physical contact and laid your arm on top of his that had already been on the armrest. You looked over at him, barely able to contain your smile. You saw the faint trace of a smile on his face. You let your head fall onto his shoulder, shutting your eyes in bliss.
The finals would see Fukurodani going up against a team you had heard some of the players talking about, 'Shiratorizawa'. Their reputation wasn't understated, they were amazing. Not like that was even close to the front of your mind at that point.

🎃 Live Reports & Behind the scenes Pt.2
According to the interview from some audiences after the reveal of 6th’s and 7th’s cast, they thought it’s funny that team Bad Boy felt oddly cool to them, while on the other hand, team Hero were also cool but with even more chaotic vibes than the previous one —Everyone did wonder in unison that what went through the organizer’s head when they decided to put them together. Well, Raiden and Saji were the only exceptions since both of them were naturally pretty dedicated to their team titles.
Raiden got a bit carried away as he started laughing like some maniac by the end of his show. And in consequence of that, his temporary teammates were just… letting him be before all left the scene like nothing happened.
Since the beginning of the 9th show, the ladies of team “SolaLune Fairies” were seen solemnly walking out of the backstage with a dark long veil covering most part of their face and their outfits. Each of them were also noted to hold a bouquet with different flowers. Lola were red tulips, Evelyn were blue roses, Moriko were sunflowers, and Miku were moon orchids. But once the first beat of the song dropped out, they suddenly changed their moods and threw their veils away ...showing off their party dresses which were delicately designed just for each of them (ultimate kudos were given to those from the costume team). Thus, the true catwalk showdown began!
After all the teasing to throw their bouquets to the audience like in the wedding, it was still unknown who those ladies decide to give their bouquets to at the end. Maybe it was their lover/ bestie or etc. Who knows anyway? But as the show title hinted, they might probably give it to their fairest…
Before the 10th show starts, the camera caught Kanade having a high-five with Lola in the same fashion as those two boys from the first half.
Despite not being much active around these days, Hana Izanami (@snowmantita) was spotted coming here in secret to cheer for her friends.
The 11th show was obviously one of the best highlights of this event, given 6 of them were actually the famed performers to begin with! In addition, Queen card was the one who planned most details of the performance herself. Besides, some of them were really going all-out to the point where they attempted to compete with each other even. No wonder this show received very loud applause as a result, just like their team’s name implied.
There was one funny moment getting leaked out from the backstage. It was the photo of two gentlemen who literally had no idea why they were put in the same line with other talented showmen in the 11th show. Saigo seemed to be deep in thought about how much the staff have spent on props and special effects, while Nishio… He was caught flirting with other participants —Well, let’s hope that he wasn’t flirting with the wrong person there.
Despite the chill and anti-climax vibe that was very contrast to the intense impression from the previous show, the final show performed by team Bakemono was unexpectedly the children’s most favorite! Why was that? The secret of success not only lied in the lyrics of the song, but also its cute and catchy choreography. Moreover, they had also brought in the massive number of candies to throw into the crowd.
And due to some interviews with the parents, they told that this show truly deserved to be the closing show as it was in fact spoke the moral of this spooky event…
Before the show started, it was a record of five of them chatting with each other. And although it was all according to the script, Asahi confessed that they had retaken it so many rounds he actually lost count of.
And just as the name of their team indicated, they were all wearing the yokāi costumes! For example, Asahi was the Oni, Kohaku was attempting to look like Kasa-obake (even if it came out rather funny), Taria was Karasu tengu, Honoka had animal ears so maybe she was bakeneko or kitsune, and Ayaka wore triangle headband with a kimono to represent the yurēi ghost.
From what live reports said, despite being the performers of the show, both Asahi & Kohaku were noted to really enjoy their time the most —These two spiritual(?) twins loved throwing candies like they’re playing with snow, while Honoka and Ayaka might seem a bit stiff due to their not so great experiences with people. However, Taria was the one making them warm up and enjoy the moment just like other children did —Who else would understand the kids best if not someone with a children’s heart?

Summary: Once upon a time, Hanabi was just that starry-eyed girl, read fairy tales like all the other little girls of the village before they start training to become kunoichi. The protagonist always finds that perfect person.
When she kisses him, it feels like her life finally begins.
June prompt: Proposal/Wedding Fic
Word Count: 6.8k
Rating: T
A/N: Context for those who haven’t read “Tag”: Eiji and Jun are Hanabi’s teammates. Tora was their sensei. Tadashi is Hanabi’s guard. Moriko is Konohamaru’s mother. This takes place shortly after Episode 50 (the infamous drunk scene of Boruto that set sail to this ship) so doesn't account for alien stuff or the Remon arc. This is an extension of Tag.
If you like this pairing and enjoy my writing to some extent, I'd recommend you check it out! It's a longfic about them. Thanks as always <3
Konohamaru doesn’t enjoy being irritated with Hanabi, but today, he is.
Everything was planned to the T for this. He prides himself on being a good planner, and today was no exception. It’s a plan he’s had in mind for a few months now. He was supposed to pick up Hanabi at four p.m. in the middle of July when the weather is the warmest. The sun would still be high in the sky, he’d take her to Ichiraku’s, where they’d had so many conversations from silly speculation to deep and emotional. Then to the dango spot they went to way back when they were kids, the same spot he lost a bet to her. As the sun goes down, he’d take her to the lake.
But it’s coming up on five, and while he’s been chatting with Tadashi inside of the Hyūga compound, he’s been tense. Outwardly, he’s doing his best to show indifference, just act happy with Tadashi, but inside, he’s kind of fuming. He tried really, really hard to make sure this was perfect. It doesn’t help that the clouds are slowly inching closer and closer, threatening to overtake the whole damn sky.
“I do wonder what holds Lady Hanabi up…” Tadashi comments offhandedly, peering off to the side. “She is a bit on the later side sometimes.”
“Not with me,” Konohamaru responds instinctively, knowing it sounds entitled, but it’s true, damnit. She’s not usually late with him. Tadashi looks back at him with this knowing smirk he’s been giving him since he was a kid, whether Konohamaru realized it or not. “It’s just—it was kind of an important date.”
“Date,” Tadashi says it with a chuckle behind his voice and Konohamaru shifts on his feet. It’s unsettling to say these things out loud after all this time, he figures it’s some sort of trauma from keeping the whole thing a secret for so long. Konohamaru’s eyes dart to Tadashi’s when they go veiny, byakugan activating, something he’s been doing out of courtesy for Konohamaru while they’ve been chatting. Konohamaru waits with anticipation as his face relaxes and turns to him. “She’s approaching with Eiji.”
Konohamaru debates whether he wants to accost her and berate her for being late, but decides even if it’s an hour late, he still wants to make the date special, so he decides against it. He hears Eiji’s loud laughter in the distance, then sees the two girls approaching and she’s…clearly pretty buzzed. He deflates.
“Heyyy!” Hanabi waves her arm big, the other wrapped around Eiji’s neck as they stumble against each other. “You’re early!”
“I’m – I’m what?” Konohamaru asks, frustration bubbling. “You’re late!”
“Four, right?” Hanabi asks, unhooking her arm from Eiji’s neck.
“Ah fuck,” Eiji says after pulling up her sleeve to check her watch. “It’s damn near five.”
“Wait, really?” Hanabi asks, double-taking at Eiji. “Shoot! I’m sorry, Kono.”
Konohamaru sighs, slumping over before grabbing her forearm to keep her steady as she stumbles towards him. “How many drinks did you guys have?”
“Err – “ Hanabi holds up her hand, counting on her fingers, then the other hand, and Konohamaru shakes his head. It really is just his luck for things to play out this way when he’s trying to do something actually important.
“It’s fine. Let’s get some food in your stomach, alright?”
“Can Eiji come?” Hanabi asks, batting her eyelashes up at him and Konohamaru grits his teeth. Another nail in his coffin.
Too polite for his own good, he shrugs and Eiji hollers, smacking him on the back. “Thanks, Kono~”
“You’re not allowed to call me that,” he snaps at her and Hanabi laughs, hooking her elbows around Konohamaru’s and Eiji’s.
Konohamaru accepted a long time ago that things never go quite as planned with Hanabi, made peace with it. He was just asking for one day. One day, that was it.
“Lemme guess,” Eiji ponders aloud, teasingly, “Ichiraku’s?”
“Yep!” Hanabi says, bubbly. He likes hearing her voice, even if she is slurring her words and letting her friend make fun of him. “Never could stop trying to be like big bro.”
“Ha-ha,” Konohamaru laughs, flatly, looking off to the side while Hanabi and Eiji giggle into each other’s faces. He’d rather she be happy than pouty, so he just lets it go. When they arrive at Ichiraku’s, they seat themselves at the bar, Teuchi happy as ever to see them, wondering out loud when the ‘old gang’ will get back together completely again.
“’Member when it was us three here with our dumb mentors?” Eiji asks, laughing as she takes her bowl of super-meat ramen happily. Hanabi laughs a bit and Konohamaru smirks.
“Oh gods! Yeah, right before exams? Oh my gosh, that was---that was when—”
Konohamaru peers out the side of his eye at her as Hanabi puts the pieces together in her head. Her chopsticks still in her hand, a noodle hanging out of her mouth. He chuckles, shoving the noodle back in her mouth.
“That was…when you kissed me.”
“Huh?” Eiji asks enthusiastically from the side, slurping a noodle with wide eyes at Hanabi. Konohamaru smirks a little as she hides her mouth behind her hand, dropping the chopsticks in her bowl, hiding her face behind her hair. Konohamaru decides to ham it up in front of Eiji, leans in on Hanabi, and grabs her cheek with one hand. He pulls her in to kiss her cheek and she giggles while Eiji mock-gags.
“Yep,” Konohamaru says with a smile as Hanabi buries her face in her hands like a schoolgirl, Eiji shaking her head. “That was when Hanabi got revenge on me for kissing her by, get this, kissing me.”
“Nasty!” Eiji’s not actually serious about her chiding, he can tell by the grin on her face.
“You’re embarrassing me,” Hanabi whines, pushing her bowl away. “You kissed me first, and come on! What was that about, anyway?”
“Is it so hard to believe I had a crush on you?” Konohamaru is 29 years old and has no shame about admitting this aloud to Hanabi. It was 18 years ago, there’s more shame in being shameful about it at this point.
“Yeah?” Hanabi asks, dropping her hands into her lap with a little smile on her face. It’s mischievous and sly and he loves it, more than words can describe. Konohamaru leans in and nods, pressing his forehead to hers.
“Yeah.”
“Well…maybe I did, too.”
“Don’t believe it,” he responds lightheartedly, leaning their heads in to press a kiss to her nose. Eiji bellows laughter next to Hanabi, causing them both to look at her.
“This is so stupid!” Eiji declares, slapping her chopsticks into the bowl. “You two have been dumb in love the moment you laid eyes on each other!”
“You would know?” Hanabi asks, leaning towards Eiji. Konohamaru decides this is Hanabi’s territory, but he’s interested, too.
“Mhm. The moment this dumb kid – “ Eiji points a finger at Konohamaru, albeit with a smile, “yelled your name and you looked at each other. It was a done deal.”
“Wooow,” Hanabi sings, shaking her head, “bold of you to assume I fell in love with this dummy then.”
“You’re both dummies,” Eiji points out with a smirk, plucking a piece of chive from Hanabi’s hair, who looks up in surprise. “You’ve been in love longer than all your silly little genin have been alive.”
“Eiji,” Konohamaru interjects. Eiji looks at him expectantly with those raised eyebrows, blinking. He laughs a little, then reaches for Hanabi’s chin to pull her towards him, deciding to utilize the moment while he has it. “I think she’s right.”
“Huh?” Hanabi asks, a little drunk and dumb. She moons her eyes at him and he just wants to swallow her up whole.
“I think I’ve been in love with you since the moment I laid eyes on you.”
He says it with all the sincerity inside of him, hoping it resonates. Even Eiji knows when to quit teasing, cause she holds her breath and slowly starts to get out of her seat.
“That’s dumb,” Hanabi breathes out like she lacks air.
“I’ll see you soon,” Eiji whispers in her ear, clearly getting the hint as she quickly leaves.
Konohamaru doesn’t even mind being left with her bill.
“I really do,” he whispers, tilting her head up so he can slot his lips to hers. He feels her sigh into them and that gives him a lot of comfort.
Her fingers wrap around his wrist and he decides they can skip dango to get to the lake, especially since Eiji has bowed out.
Now that she’s sobered up, she starts apologizing for Eiji’s presence and her lateness. Tells him she’s to blame and wishes she had paid closer attention to the clock, but Konohamaru decides it’s not worth being mad about. Hanabi doesn’t get much free time, and when she does, it’s with him, so for her to spend it with Eiji is a treat for her and he’s just glad she enjoyed it. He won’t stop being miffed that his great plan was disrupted, but it’s going fine and he’s not mad at them. Her happiness is paramount and seeing her giggly and bubbly is happiness enough for him.
So when he drags her to the lake and she immediately breaks into laughter as they approach, his heart lifts. She’s still a little buzzed, but he can work with it.
“Sky’s pretty,” Hanabi points upwards, tracing the outline of a cloud with her fingertip. “Clouds are pretty.”
“Like you.” It’s almost on instinct that he says shit like this now. Ever since he knew what flirting was, he’s been flirting with her. Even after being together for years, he likes complimenting her and seeing her get a little red in the face. Warmer tones always suited her, anyway.
For a long time, she never accepted his compliments. It’s only been in recent years that she’s learned to laugh and say thank you and call him a dummy instead of telling him to stop it. But this time, she just stares at the clouds, her hand dropping to her side with this really sweet smile that threatens to squeeze his heart in two.
With fewer people around than normal and the sun exactly where he wants it to be, grazing the treetops, he decides to seize this moment as his opportunity, and he’s gonna do the whole to-do.
Konohamaru gets down on one knee like his mom and Moegi told him he better do, pulls out the ring box, and lets out a low whistle. Hanabi turns and her eyes blow wide, hands to her mouth, just like you see in movies, and it’s the exact reaction he wanted.
“Hanabi,” he starts, feeling the air inside of him constricting. He’s about 99.99 percent sure she’s going to say yes, but that 0.01 percent chance she’ll say no stills lingers in his mind. Breathes out, opens the box, and says it. “Will you marry me?”
But instead of screaming and crying and jumping around, or the less likely reaction of disgust, she just looks…confused. That makes all of his anxiety bubble up quickly.
“Sorry,” she says, quickly when she notices his face fall. “Yes, Konohamaru, I mean—obviously, yes! Yes.”
Konohamaru raises his eyebrows, completely underwhelmed by her reaction. She reaches for the box, which he assumes for the ring, but instead, turns it to face him and…there’s nothing there. “What the hell?!”
“Oh no,” Hanabi says with a sad smile, holding her hand out for him. He pulls himself to his feet and starts tearing everything out of the box – the cotton, the bed it sits on, even the paper lining. It had to be there?
“Where the hell?” he asks himself, frustration teeming in his voice. Then it hits him. “My mom’s…”
“It’s at your mom's?” she asks, stepping towards him to set her hands on his cheeks. He feels himself calm immediately with her touch, and looks down at her with these big, sad eyes.
“I was showing her…and, damnit,” he sighs, slouching over and letting her pull him down so his forehead presses to hers. “I left it on the counter.”
“Did she approve of it?”
“What, the ring?”
“Mhm.”
“Yeah.” He wraps his arms around her waist and pulls her in. This wasn’t how it was supposed to be.
“I’m really sorry,” she says, softly, rubbing her nose against his. “I was late and drunk, I had no idea it was for something so important…”
“That’s kinda the point.” He chuckles, presses a kiss to her lips to reassure her. He’s more mad at himself now. “I’m sorry, you deserve a lot better than this.”
“What could be better?” she asks, leaning up for another kiss. “What, in a fancy restaurant surrounded by people? Put it in a piece of dango so I can choke?”
Hanabi really does know how to make him feel better, and he laughs out loud at the idea. She likes nice things but being in the limelight hadn’t really been her thing in a long time. None of those scenarios were ever something he seriously considered because he knew she’d like it quiet.
“It’s perfect because it’s you.” She’s always had a big personality, but when it came to romance, she’s always been a little softer and quieter about it. “This lake is really special to me.”
“Me too,” he responds into the kiss, letting it melt them together, “’cause of you.”
“Dork,” she whispers, letting him guide her into the grass. “In the grass?”
“I wanna make out with my fiancée,” he says it out loud and it makes all the good feelings inside of him rise.
Konohamaru is happy to lay on top of his fiancée, in the grass, by the lake.
Hanabi’s surprised by how excited Konohamaru is to get married. She really thought it’d be her fretting over a wedding, but he’s thoroughly surprised her by having a hand in every step of planning the ceremony. She’s the heiress, so the Hyūga were naturally always going to be the ones putting on the wedding, something she figured he knew going into this. But no decisions were final until he got to hear them, and he was very insistent on what his vision was.
It was hilarious, actually, watching her former caretakers being told by this big dumb Sarutobi that there was absolutely no way the ceremony could be in any season except Summer. It’s really sweet to her that he cares so much about making sure their wedding takes place in full sun, but what Konohamaru hadn’t thought of is that he saved the summer for proposing to her. It’s the middle of Summer and the only way to have a Summer wedding would be to either somehow ramp up getting every together to have it in August, or wait another year.
“Well, we can swing it.” The poor man’s so excited to be married to her that he can’t (or won’t) see reason in that trying to plan a wedding that is going to be attended by international politicians in a month is near impossible.
“Well, you heard the man!” Moriko gestures outwardly. Sometimes Hanabi wonders if she’s Konohamaru’s sidekick, or in fact his partner in crime. Perhaps she’s the mastermind herself, here. Either way, together, they’re a hard-headed pair and when they’re in full agreement on something, they’re practically impossible to budge. Hanabi feels a little bad for the people assigned to planning the wedding, so she comes up behind Konohamaru and takes his hand.
“Be a little easy,” Hanabi tries, tugging at his hand so he’ll look down at her. “Maybe it still can be in the summer, but maybe it’ll just be…smaller?”
“Smaller?” Moriko laughs at the question, waving her hand. “Don’t you worry, dear. Your father isn’t the only one with political sway.”
Hanabi raises an eyebrow at this declaration.
“A Sarutobi-Hyūga wedding is guaranteed to pull every silly little lord and lady in no matter the date. We could have the wedding a week from now and they’d be scrambling to get their butts here.”
“You know we don’t care about that,” Konohamaru points out, letting Hanabi’s hand trail up his shoulder so her elbow can rest on it. “I could give a damn what politicians make it – wait, no, I take that back.” He grins mischievously down at Hanabi, who gives him a curious look. “I’d love for that stupid Sand guy to have to watch me kiss Lady Hanabi.”
“Oh, shut it.” Hanabi rolls her eyes, shoving at his arm. She shudders to think of the man, Katsumi. Grabby hands, lack of boundaries, boring conversation. Hanabi’s nearly 30 now and looking back on it now, she wishes she had slapped him when he tried to kiss her. She was just in her baby twenties trying to fulfill her duties as an heiress, not realizing just how taken advantage of she was. Part of it was thinking about what some other heirs have to endure just to save face and believing she was just lucky it didn’t go farther.
Inevitably, they had crossed paths a couple of times since that day, but it was kept to polite greetings and clan talk. Hanabi still remembers the way Konohamaru had lost his cool worse than she had ever seen from him before, how excited it made her. Over time, she realized that maybe it made her feel a little safer, knowing someone was watching out for her that wasn’t Tadashi or Natsu. Someone who unapologetically interrupts, unwilling to be intimidated by someone’s status or power.
Hanabi sighs dreamily as she thinks about it, lost in thought while Konohamaru and his mother go back and forth about how they’ll get this whole thing worked out.
“Udon and Moegi already volunteered to send their teams out, too.” Hanabi snaps out of her daydreams when Konohamaru shifts on his feet, causing her to lose her balance. Without even looking at her, he grabs her by the waist to keep her up and pulls her against him. “Things are quiet in the village, so it’s a good time to let them go on some low-key escort missions to other lands.”
Moriko agrees enthusiastically and Hanabi taps her lips, thinking it over. “What about my team?”
“Your team?” Konohamaru asks, glancing down at her with a perked eyebrow. “I mean…do you think they’re cut out to go out on their own already?”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Hanabi asks irritably, pulling away from his arm. He looks helplessly at her, realizing the insult in the sentence. “Think my girls aren’t good enough?”
“I didn’t say that—”
“They’re more than capable,” Hanabi snaps, hands on her hips. “I’ve been practicing with Namida and she’s gotten way better with her sound wave!”
“I don’t doubt that,” Konohamaru interjects, stepping towards her while Moriko excuses herself in a hurry. “I didn’t mean anything by it, okay? I’m sorry, you’re right. Maybe they can go out to the Sand?”
“Closest of the great villages, huh?” She’s defensive now, turning her nose up.
“Moegi’s team is already going to the Cloud, Udon’s the Mist, mine are going to the Stone…we actually weren’t going to send anyone to the Sand.”
“Hmph.” Pouty, she turns away, shrugging her shoulder at his attempt to put his hand on it.
“Hey, no pouting,” he says as he circles back around, cupping his palms around her cheeks. “Can’t resist your pouty lip.”
“Stop trying to charm me,” she huffs but doesn’t pull away when he bends down to kiss her lower lip.
“I just thought maybe you’d want them around,” he tells her, earnestly as he presses his forehead to hers. She relaxes slightly, letting her arms drop from their cross. “In case of errands and stuff.”
“I’ve got all the Hyūga for that.” Even if they’ve slowly broken down the class system, there are Hyūga that still work for a living as caretakers and servants, many of them in fact happy to plan another large wedding. “I don’t want my team to be put on petty missions.”
“Ever think maybe they’d like the break?” he asks, sliding his hands from her face down to her hands, lacing their fingers together.
“Pfft, Wasabi?” She shakes her head and he smiles. “I guess they could go out to the Sand. It’s something.”
“Right,” he agrees, giving her a quick peck on the lips before pulling away from her. “Now, I gotta find Natsu.”
Dumbfounded, she reaches out to him before he can get too far. “And what exactly do you need with my caretaker?”
“She’s going with me to the Yamanaka flower shop,” he says over his shoulder as if it’s the most natural thing in the world.
Hanabi watches Konohamaru march away, proud as ever, and she wonders how she ended up here.
Deciding it’s not worth it to dwell on, she treks over to her sisters.
Here lies an odd sight: Eiji in Hinata’s kitchen, at her dining table.
“Ah, hello my sweet sister!” Hinata chirps, waving her in, unbothered by Hanabi bursting in. Hanabi stops to look at them: Hinata’s in a chair at the dining table and Eiji stands behind her, looking over her shoulder at some sort of magazine. Eiji doesn’t even pay her glance, just jabs her finger at the magazine in front of them.
“This one’s good,” Eiji says and Hinata immediately looks back down with interest.
“What’s going on?” Hanabi asks, irritated that she’s being ignored. She pulls out the closest chair to sit and see what they’re looking at. She’s horrified to see a catalog of bridal kimonos. “What—”
“Weddings in a few weeks, Hanabi!” Eiji exclaims, her toothy grin flashing up at her as she finally looks up. “You weren’t lookin’ so, you know!”
“Okay, but—” Hanabi scoots in, suddenly interested. “You can’t just do this without me.”
“Join the party!” Eiji tells her, pointing at a particular kimono. It’s primarily white, with bursting red and orange flowers along the length of the inseam and sleeves.
“I think this fits you beautifully, Hanabi,” Hinata tells her with a smile, clasping her hands.
Hanabi stares at it for a bit. Usually, she’d like to look at all her options without being force-fed once, but…she kind of likes this one already.
“What the heck are we waiting for?” Eiji exclaims, just like she did for her own wedding day, and tears the page right out of the catalog. Starts marching towards the front door with little regard. “Let's go get you outfitted, princess!”
“Hey!” Hanabi calls after her old teammate, and something inside of her feels light and happy about it. Like old times. She throws her arms around Eiji’s neck while Hinata giggles behind them, grabbing her things to trail after them.
“C’mon!” Eiji doesn’t even hesitate, grabs Hanabi by the legs, and hoists her up on her back. Hanabi’s so much taller than Eiji, but Eiji doesn’t care. She’ll climb Hanabi any day, but she’ll also carry her any day, too. Hanabi can’t help but burst into laughter as her tiny teammate marches through town with her on her back.
“Hey, wait!” Hanabi exclaims, all laughs and bubbles as Eiji comes to an abrupt stop. Hanabi points a finger at her team, who come to a halt upon her summoning. “How would you ladies like to go out to the Sand?”
“A mission?!” Wasabi exclaims, hopping forward without hesitation. “Outside of the village?”
“Yep, I need you three to do something very important.” Hanabi waves her hand inwards toward herself, causing all three girls to lean in toward her and Eiji. “I need you to escort some politicians back to the Leaf.”
“Oooh,” Namida responds, giddy, “for what?”
“For…” Hanabi plays up the drama, bringing her arms around the girls who get even closer, wide-eyed. Eiji laughs even harder, lowering her head as Hanabi tells them in a high-pitched whisper, “my wedding!”
All three girls, even Wasabi, erupt into “EEEH”s and “OOOHHH”s and giggles, clapping. “To Konohamaru-sensei?!” Namida asks, clasping her hands together, starry-eyed.
“Mhm.” Hanabi nods as Eiji drops her, unable to handle all the girls latching around her waist and shoulders. “So I’m trusting you three to bring back fancy politicians for it!”
“Even the Kazekage?” Sumire asks, hands to her chest with this hopeful look.
“Even him.” Hanabi nods with a big smile. All three girls crowd together. “Go to the mission center tomorrow morning and they’ll get you your mission details.”
“Ooohh!” Namida squeals, over the moon.
“Hell yeah!” Wasabi pumps her fist, stepping forward. “You can count on us, Hanabi-sensei! We’ll make sure everyone’s safe and sound for the big day!”
“Is Konohamaru-sensei excited?” Namida asks as the three let go of her. Hanabi covers her mouth with a laugh as Eiji scoffs.
“The big dope is beyond excited.” Eiji folds her arms. Wasabi’s already taller than her, and Sumire matches her in height. Hanabi finds this amusing.
“Dope!” Wasabi laughs loudly, holds her stomach even, and Eiji joins her. “Yeah, he kinda is, huh?”
“Wasabi,” Eiji sets a hand on Wasabi’s shoulder, still laughing, “you got no idea what a dope that guy was when we were kids.”
“Stop it!” Namida huffs all pouty, crossing her arms. “Don’t make fun of him that way! That’s Hanabi-sensei’s future husband!”
“No, it’s okay.” Even Hanabi can’t keep back her giggle, shoving Eiji’s shoulder. “Can I tell you a secret?”
All three lean in, giddy.
“He’s kind of a sap.” Wasabi laughs out loud while Sumire and Namida control their giggles. “You’re all still so young, but when you find your person, make sure they’re soft inside.”
“Soft inside,” Sumire muses, tapping her chin.
“Yeah, you know what,” Wasabi steps forward, confident, “if a dude wants to know me, he has to be in touch with his emotions.”
“Wait—really?” Sumire asks, looking taken aback. Even Hanabi has to question it.
“Yes ma’am!” Wasabi declares. “Men who are confident in themselves, that’s the way to go.”
“I want one who can cry in front of me,” Namida says with all the vindication in her tone.
Hanabi and Eiji cackle, evil and crazy with one another, clutching their stomachs.
“Alright girls, I have to go.” Hanabi shoo’s them away, feeling satisfied with their interaction. Eiji is still laughing as they head to the bridal gown shop, pushes her way in. Eiji even greets the shop keep by name because she became so familiar with the shop for her own wedding. Eiji gets to work pointing out the dress she’s decided she needs to see Hanabi in, and Hanabi just lets her because she’s just happy someone cares enough.
When she looks at herself, she almost tears up.
Not because the robes are particularly beautiful or anything, just because it’s something she’s dreamt about for a long time. For better or worse, Hanabi’s thought of what her wedding would be like since she was old enough to know you could commit your entire life to one other person.
It started with the hope she’d find a beautiful boy who was strong, brave and treated her like a living god. That beautiful boy would sweep her off her feet and commit his entire heart and soul to her. Would never wrong her, would always be there to kiss her cheeks and hug her when she’s sad and jump for joy with her when she’s happy. That silly stuff girls only get to dream about for a little while before reality catches up to them.
Naturally, it turned into something sadder and bleaker. The gut-punching reality that she would never live that fantasy. It was always going to be an arrogant, boring, stuffy man. One who could never make her laugh, whose smile would send unpleasant shivers down her spine, who looked down his nose at her. One that wanted her as his prize. The reality of her situation, especially her. The heiress to the Hyūga needed a fitting husband to have kids with.
Konohamaru broke down all those barriers. It took a long time, a lot of heartache, so, so many tears. Late nights wondering if she’d ever truly be happy. Early mornings wondering if he’d come back to her again. Days when she felt like it was all for nothing, that she should just accept her fate and close off her heart, never let it be squeezed or full or burned again. Really go down that cold heart of neutrality path, as her father had done for so long.
Here she is. Standing in front of a mirror, feeling like that princess. Knowing that beautiful boy is just a call away. That he’s smitten with her just like she always dreamt about, gone for her in a way that only someone deeply in love can be. Even better, it’s exactly how she is for him, too.
Her heart feels bouncy in her chest.
Eiji knocks aggressively on the door and she snaps herself out of her daydreams. They don’t have to be dreams anymore.
“This is the one,” Eiji waves Hinata over to observe and Hanabi nearly chokes when she sees tears in her sister’s eyes.
“Hey!” Hanabi gasps, holding her arms out. “Hey, hey, what—”
“I’ve always just wanted you to be happy,” Hinata breathes out, holding onto Hanabi’s elbows as she comes toe to toe with her. Hanabi looks down at her sister with wide eyes. “I was so worried.”
“I…I am happy,” Hanabi tells her, suddenly feeling guilty.
“I know,” Hinata says in this soft voice, smiling all watery up at her.
Hanabi thinks of all the times she crawled into Hinata’s bed. Crying, sad, or just lonely. Even into their twenties and Hinata’s thirties. Time and time again, every moment life felt like it wronged her, her older sister was always her stone. So she lets Hinata pull her down into a tight hug, trying not to let tears well up in her own eyes, too. Tries not to think about the fact that neither of them had a mother to give them away. She just tries to be grateful that she has this. Her big sister and her best friends. And her beautiful boy.
Hanabi frequently has to pinch her skin to remind herself she’s not dreaming. This is reality.
There’s no doubt in Konohamaru’s mind.
He’s marrying Hanabi in the summer, in the sunshine.
It’s what she’s always deserved, and he doesn’t want to wait a second longer than he has to before officially sealing the deal.
Yeah, it’s definitely something he’s thought about for a long time. He’ll never have any shame in admitting that. Hanabi’s been his dream girl for as long as he’s known her. The moment he watched her make short work of her bullies and put them on the ground, he was gone. Admiration from up close, he thinks. She’s always been the bright spot in his life he chased after, even when she pushed him away. Told him there was no way their worlds could ever connect, and still, all he wanted was her.
Even when he thought maybe he was a little crazy in the head for how much he wanted her, there was no stopping it. Confronting Hiashi and demanding acceptance was always an inevitability. Making her his wife was always her decision. Konohamaru thinks there’s some truth to faith and destiny and all that other crap. It was always meant to be, as sappy as that is.
In movies and T.V., the groom is always a nervous wreck. Konohamaru lets Jun tug at his tie while Naruto reminisces with him, and he feels calm. Everything is just as it should be. He doesn’t have a worried bone in his body, he thinks.
Udon stands in the doorframe with his arms crossed, smiling at Konohamaru.
This world took Konohamaru’s father from him. His grandfather. His uncle. He learned a long time ago that these were the realities of shinobi life. The fourth war had him facing an impossibly terrifying enemy at the tender age of 11. That’s when a lot of them get to have their first near-death experiences. What kept him going were the people in his life he wanted to protect. His mom, Naruto, Udon and Moegi. Hanabi. Every day, Konohamaru swore his life away to make sure those people would be safe.
It feels so much different now with Hanabi, and now the nerves get going inside of him. They’ve been together for a good amount of time, but now he has a duty to not die on her. It’s something they’ve talked about, late-night promises before missions where he tells her he won’t be that reckless kid he once was. Promises that he can’t die. Promises he can’t make. Leaving Hanabi alone in the world terrifies him, especially now that she’s committing to him, really committing to him.
Sometimes, he thinks there’s a reason all of the older shinobi got married and had kids so fast. Naruto and Hinata, Sasuke and Sakura, Shikamaru and Temari, Ino and Sai, and all the others. Fighting directly in the war, there must have been some urgency to pass on their genes and settle down. Look for a sense of normalcy. Konohamaru thinks that just didn’t apply to shinobi his age. The ones who wanted to fight but were forced to stay in the village. Watched the destruction from a distance. Felt the impacts but could do nothing to help. Told they were just kids and their responsibility was to live.
It took a lot longer for him and his own peers to settle. Even Konohamaru is doing it sooner than a lot of kids from his class. Naruto still refers to them as kids as they all near their thirties. Udon’s been a bachelor forever and Moegi’s bounced from guy to guy forever. Even Konohamaru experimented with dating for a while before he realized his heart firmly belonged to Hanabi.
Committing like this feels like a giant leap. It’s one he wants to make, but also one that kind of scares him.
There’s no way Konohamaru can die on Hanabi, not after declaring his love and intention to her father and subsequentially wedding her.
“Are you okay?” Jun asks in a quiet voice, leaning towards him. Snaps Konohamaru from his devastating thoughts.
“You almost died.”
Jun blinks at him with those big yellow eyes, then looks behind him briefly. Naruto’s moved on to Udon to tell him how proud he is of what great men they’ve turned out to be. Jun clears his throat and steps forward. “I’m aware…?”
“Weren’t you terrified?” Konohamaru asks, swallowing hard, knowing he’s being too vague.
“The concept of dying is naturally scary,” Jun says in a disbelieving voice.
“Terrified of leaving Eiji?”
Quiet sweeps over them as Jun purses his lips together. After a moment, Jun nods, stiffly. “Of course I was.”
“So…” Konohamaru doesn’t know how to articulate what he wants to say.
“We’re all shinobi, Konohamaru.” Jun seems to pick up on his hesitancy. “We all know what we sign up for. And we all know who we sign up to be with.”
Konohamaru licks his lips, trying to fight off the dry mouth that threatens. “Right, but…”
“That’s our burden.” Jun reaches up to set a firm hand on his shoulder. Konohamaru thinks of his father. “And their burden, too.”
It’s all perfect, really.
His mom was shooting for something bigger than Naruto and Hinata’s wedding, but even he had to reign her in for it. Naruto, the Hero of the Leaf, was always going to have a giant wedding. Konohamaru’s just happy that he’s standing at a doorway, waiting to see his gorgeous bride under the sunshine.
Somehow they had pulled it together despite it all. When Hanabi emerges from behind the double doors, Konohamaru can finally understand why men cry when they see the love of their life at their wedding.
Hanabi always lit up his world like the firework she was, and today is no exception. She steps out, bashful, and still successfully steals Konohamaru’s breath away. A large, bursting orange Lily tucked behind one ear, her hair pulled into that gem-crusted clip her sister got her as a gift for graduating to genin, and the aquamarine pendant centered in her neckline that he had gotten her nearly ten years ago for her birthday. The kimono matches, with swirling bright red and orange patterning, looking like the warm glow of the sun she is.
He blinks, resists rubbing his eyes.
“Getting a good look?”
Even now, she teases him as she spins, holding up her arms. He reaches out with his hands, and she readily takes them, letting him pull her in close. There’s nothing more he wants than to carry her away and be alone with her, but it’s the big day.
“Perfection,” he whispers against her lips, not quite connecting, but close enough to feel each other's breaths.
“You don’t look so bad,” she snickers, stepping away. “Glad you don’t look boring.”
Konohamaru smirks as he thinks back to that day. The day Hanabi planted a kiss on his lips, hidden in a hallway like the stupid teenagers they were, starting their game of tag. Naruto and Hinata’s wedding day, he wore a suit and tie, and she wore slightly dressier robes.
“And you look stunning,” he tells her, excitement in his chest like that teenager he once was that he can still make her cheeks pink.
“Ready?”
“For a long time.”
When she kisses him, it feels like her life finally begins.
All of her life she was told to be better. Work harder. Fight. Lead. Strength. There was no path for weakness, except when she was with Konohamaru. Now she lets the burning, yet sweet liquid of sake slide down her throat as she’s declared his wife. She throws her hands up to cheer, and someone behind her, maybe her sister or Eiji, takes the small cup from her hand. His arms encase her entire back as he pulls her right against his chest and lifts her up.
Inside, she knows the little girl in her is satisfied.
Once upon a time, Hanabi was just that starry-eyed girl, read fairy tales like all the other little girls of the village before they start training to become kunoichi. The protagonist always finds that perfect person. Natsu cradled her in her arms and promised her that her happily ever after would come. Tadashi reassured her she was doing everything right. Tora-sensei guided her when she finally made it to the real shinobi world. Eiji and Jun made sure every piece of her stayed together, no matter how hard things got.
“I thought we’d run away together,” she says to him when it’s all over and they’re falling into bed, the first night as what she thought once impossible: newlyweds.
“Yeah?” he whispers, his lips trailing along her neck as she pushes the robes off his shoulders.
“I never thought we’d make it here.” It’s not a new conversation, far from it. It’s old news now, but he still laughs, because it’s okay to laugh now.
“Where would we have gone?”
“A coastal place.” She giggles as one hand wraps around the back of her neck to keep her from pulling too far away. “Elope without anyone knowing. Leave it all behind.”
“Eloping,” he repeats back between kisses.
“I’ve wanted this forever,” she sighs, happy and dreamy, nothing but good feelings rising inside of her.
“I’ve wanted you forever.” She shivers at the way he says it right in her ear, the warmth of his breath against it.
“You have me now.” He pulls away just enough to look at her and she feels like she’s glowing under his gaze.
“You and me,” he tells her with such sincerity, she wants to melt.
All she’d ever dreamt about was a beautiful boy, and that beautiful boy giving her the whole world.
Hanabi thinks her whole world is Konohamaru.
He’s all hers, and she’s all his. They don’t even have to say ‘I love you’s, because it’s just a given.
All of the fights, all of the pain, all of the waiting, it all ends in something beautiful.
Starting their lives together like this feels like a fever dream, but it’s her reality.
Hanabi lets Konohamaru conform to her, and all she can do is let happy tears and bubbly laughter pour out of her while he holds onto her like his life depends on it, kisses away her tears and laughs, too.

After the kidnapping of Joseph, Moriko and Miran, things had been for a word, intense.
Specifically with the siblings.
Desire was quietly seething in his own way, Aestas for her right was gearing for a fight and looking for the biggest missiles she could take in her cargo, and Ivy was worried and melancholic.
Bellum.
Well, Bellum was angry. Yet that didn't really give full weight to his anger. To his emotions.
What he felt was more like a slowly creeping rage.
And as the days went by without his brothers return, it got worse.
He tried to drown it out with music, with work, with even fights.
Nothing helped. Helped him at least.
He had always been told that he had a berserkers mindset.
He thought more with his fists then his mind. Violence and his resolve through violence were things that spurred him on. To those that had kidnapped Joseph, he would be called simple, or a moron in many ways. To normal society, he was a violent thug that saw the whole world as his enemy.
To himself, he was simply himself. He owed no one his reasonings nor his worldview.
In those days he quietly seethe and tried to drown his anger with purpose and loved ones.
It didn't work.
It got so much that the one time he tried to work, he hit the hammer so hard that it broke, the sword he was forging broke, and the anvil broke.
He was heaving. He hadn't even realised he had lost himself in the fury. He was in such a fugue that everything had a red haze of anger. He just knew he had to work. And yet everything felt like it was worthless in what he needed.
His soul burned.
It burned with a fury he couldn't explain, his rage its fuel. It felt like it would never ever stop.
Snarling, the noise he made so guttural and feral, that it came out wrong.
It didn't sound like him at all. And what he didn't feel was the heat. The heat of the forge was surpassed, and the heat he produced was so much that it made the things not resistant or warded against it pop and deform.
What made him realise something was wrong was the pop of the windshield of his cars pop, crack and fracture.
That alone told him something was wrong.
When he tried to step outside, it just got worse.
Immediately the heat hit everything and everyone outside, causing the water types asked to be around Bellum's home, just in case, to spray him down with water.
It didn't help. It just made his soul burn hotter.
So, he left. Left after seeing those that couldn't deal with it get on their knees and struggle to breathe.
He didn't know where to go. He couldn't go home, couldn't see Vivienne, or Ivy, or anyone.
He even feared to see Levi in fear hed just hurt him or make trouble.
So, he asked his porter to find the hottest place that could hold him.
To just go somewhere where he couldn't hurt others.
It found what he needed.
After that, he didn't know what else to do. He wandered for a day or two. He felt listless, twitchy and irate, even as rivers of magma and the few things that could live here strolled about.
They thought him an easy meal.
And for a while. Just a while. The satiation for violence was fulfilled.
But only for a while. He still felt aimless, so he explored. He fought, he even smashed. Venting his anger, and finding nothing that could release it. It was like a choking vine around his neck. And the more time he wasted, the more it felt like it was strangling him.
His red haze grew even more. Getting darker, deeper in its color. Coagulating like spilled blood.
He ate the beasts that attacked him. Raw and succulent. From meat to bone and marrow.
He became like a beast in of himself as his fury took over, leading him to fight some of the biggest fire breathing monsters this planet had.
He lost himself for days. He didn't know how long it was, but when he awoke again to his senses, he was covered in blood, covered in gore. Both his own and not.
And he stood before a gate. A gate of a mass of stone. It was unadorned. Lava dripping from crevices that dripped out from the inside. It opened with a slow creak of its own. Bellum walking in slowly and haltingly. His footsteps treading marks upon gray ash.
Inside was lit with small rivers of magma, the halls formed of stone and obsidian.
He didn't know where he was. But the halls he stepped into felt worn, ancient. Made by hands that had lived long, long ago.
But that escaped his care. He didn't care. He just knew he was burning up.
The heat in his soul felt like a sun. No, a sun finding a final supernova.
He felt like if he didn't calm this sea of fury, it would drown him.
It was so hot around him, it made the magma around him grow hotter and hotter.
And yet he walked. Not knowing why, but feeling it was important.
He walked until he came to a circular room.
He looked up, and saw the gaping maw of a mountain. Then looked around him.
A pathway led to a circular dais. The dais surrounded by cooled magma. And in the center of that dais was an anvil made out of a material he didn't know.
It was matt black. Kinda like obsidian, but he knew obsidian, and it wasn't that.
It was a metal so black, it felt like it could take any light and snuff it out.
He didn't understand why it was there. But something understood why he was there.
Forces he didn't understand, or perhaps again, simply didn't care too, found him. Nothing in particular showed itself, but beside the anvil was set a stack of various ingots.
Orichalcum, adamantium, and whatever metal there was that he didn't know. But what he knew, this forge, it called to him.
He found a hammer made of the same dark black metal, he stared at it in his haze, his instincts as a smith gently hefting it up and down, feeling its weight.
It was perfect.
In any other case, he would've been suspicious. He would've been wary.
Right at this moment, he didn't care.
He looked around, trying to find where to put the pieces of metal into a forge. He couldn't find anything.
He looked around him, the ire in chest burning hotter as he found a forge without a kiln or anything to heat the metal. His surroundings burned so hot that he began to smack the anvil with the hammer, every curse available coming to his strained throat as he cursed this place, cursed everything in as vulgar tone of voice in a inhuman snarl.
The act itself only made sparks and clashes with the anvil. Neither hammer nor anvil broke, even as he hit it with full immense force.
The hear around him did something though.
The ground around him rumbled, and the cold magma beneath him cracked, and began to glow under his feet.
More cracks formed as the magma flowed and started once more. Bellum's heat. He himself, burning now so much that it reignited the.. volcano? Around him.
He looked up again. Seeing unfamiliar stars in the mouth of the volcano.
For once in his aimlessness, he wondered where he was.
Then the moment passed as it became unimportant.
What because important was the dais that was big enough to hold him.
So he wade towards it, the magma beneath him after he had wandered around in his anger, slothing like quagmire as it tried to drag him down. It was only so deep. Maybe around his knees, but no more. He didn't let it drag him down, and he climbed up the dais, and he went back to the myriad of metals. He had never been good with using these for various reasons. He never had the heat for one. Technique om the other.
But today he didn't care.
He plunged the first bar he grabbed into the magma, and tested the heat hed need.
At first it was too little. Not enough.
Then, too much. Ruined bar. He threw it away.
He tried again, and again until he got it right.
Then he started. At first, he went at his normal tempo, but it wasn't enough. Then he added more force. Then more.
CRACK.
Too much. It broke. Again, and again, until he got it right. Didn't feel right. Throw it away.
Then he tried the new metal. It difficult to heat up. Stubborn. Mean. He plunged it in, didn't heat. Plunged it for longer, didn't heat. He then shoved it in with anger, putting all his fury into it and bringing it back.
Hot.
It glowed with bright cherry red glow, and Bellum started to wail on it.
It refused to bend, so he hit harder. It was a risk since he had no tongs. Only his hands. So it was both a risk and a reward. Because he was hitting hard enough to break his own bones if he hit himself.
He didn't care.
Sparks flew, and the sound of metal hitting metal reverberated in odd cadences and tangs.
Bellum hit and hit as it formed.
Bellum was an avid fan of music. And music even helped in forging to keep a tempo.
But he had nothing to listen too, nothing to put over his ears. Afraid it would burn it he took it. The only thing he had was the porter because that was enchanted to withstand his heat. Or so he hoped.
It mattered little in that moment, because he only had one thing on his mind. A kine he had heard from a song that belonged to a shooter game.
While he didn't play the game, he had listened to the music.
The words from the music came to his ears and he remembered the track.
KAR EN TUK. KAR EN TUK.
That phrase had repeated. Rip and tear. Rip and tear. He had looked up the meaning. The backstory for that was weird and strange, but the words resonated with him. Especially now.
He want to rip and tear. To rip the flesh of his foes and tear them apart like a wild animal.
So that is what he instead did do this piece of metal.
He hammered into it with that mantra in his head.
Rip and tear. Kar en tuk.
He didn't know how lomg he had been at it. Or how many times he had repeated. It had been a haze. A haze of work, and fueling the metal with his fury.
The more he worked, the more he pushed into it and the more it drank.
He was now polishing it with... with magma. He held it like one would hold a piece of sandpaper and going over it to give it a shine.
He looked over what hed made. It wasn't a pretty piece. It was a sword with hammer marks. Sure it looked okay, but the metal had been a piece of work. But that was why he was going over it, smoothing it out. And as he worked, it seemed to even out a little.
Then, he... he had to do the hilt, guard and pommel.
He felt considerably calmer, and the orichalchum, which was a more copper like color didn't feel so bad. He made the rough outlines of what he wanted. Then paused.
He felt so much calmer. Like he'd put everything into his work and into the sword.
He looked at it fully.
It was black, yes. But it had veins of fire in its form. And those veins came from a gem. As wide about as his ring finger, and it was on the tang. Just above where the cross guard would go.
In his haze of a sudden calm, he blinked at it.
He knew he was done here.
Putting the hammer back on the anvil, he looked at this place, looked back up the stars. He wondered again what this place was. He didn't know. And only knew that his time here was over.
He took his porter out, its somehow cool casing giving a reassurance, and he activated his destination to home. Of course not forgetting his pieces hed yet to finish.
It was quiet at the forge. Deathly quiet. He didn't mind. He took out sandpaper, and he began to sand, polish and even out the crossguard and pommel. It took time. That was fine.
Then he picked out a wood. It couldn't be any wood.
He went over and over. Then picked out wood that looked charred and blackened. He blinked. He didn't remember getting that.
He decided it didn't matter. He used it. Again this took time, Bellum didn't know how long. Just knew hexwas out of it for a while.
When he came back to his senses, the blade was done.
The bronze like orichalcum seemed to glow with the red gem. The black and glossy look just made the veins stick out more with the bronze, and he had wrapped it with a thick leather that was as black as could be.
He blinked again. He had just worked automatically for.... he didn't know how long.
What he did know, that when he was finally done. He put it aside, and collapsed on his desk.
Out cold.

YAKUZA OC X OC LORE
Moriko and Grit
These characters wouldn’t be party members but I love them so much I gave them a Concept of it
| Summary of their lore
The two first met when Moriko was going back to her shop, doing her up most to avoid Barracuda members who were out the same night only to be given away from her dropping a hacksaw she had. Never had she planned to use it as a weapon she just had to use it for something while she was out.
With a group of Barracuda members Grit was amongst them. It took him some time but he managed to get Moriko away from the other members claiming he’d be the one to kill her. Having her act out screams and pouring out a bottle of water in a disclosed place before he takes her back to her shop.
Moriko didn’t know what to think she didn’t trust him that was until a couple months later Grit returns bleeding and injured seeking shelter from the barracudas after him. Moriko provides this safe space even letting him stay for a few days after.
When Grit leaves he disappears Moriko thought he had fled but whispers of a captive with a scar is heard by Moriko as crowds whisper in hushed voices about what seems to be Grit appear as people mention the man was a former Barracuda member and the first introduction to Ichiban is when he mentions the Barracuda members asking Moriko how to get in
She looks past Tomizawa and Kiryu due to being a bit hesitant to make eye contact with Ichiban but she tells him nothing claiming she didn’t know
When a few days pass and Moriko being unable to ask for help and seeing that Grit won’t return she takes it upon her self
Moriko looking for Grit caused something called the Barracuda massacre of sorts
Ichiban and the party would race against time to stop her only to find out Grit was taken to Palekana island.
(Here’s a few other drawings of them for the Moriko one her outfit is based off one of Reha Ripleys from WWE) in my eyes these two are quite Great Dane and Black cat coded
| What if they were in the party?
With Grit being a Barracuda member he’d have a weapon inspired by Dwight’s

Kid Moriko - she used to be too questioning
Moriko explains that as a child she’d never shut up with asking questions till she was sternly told off and was too scared to open up anymore
| What if they had a Karaoke song?
Pure love in Kamurocho - I get that the story never goes near Kamurocho in Iw that much but like I wanted a couple song for them even tho they’ll never compare to Akiyama and Hana’s version
| What if they had Drink links?
Grit - his would mention his past time with the Barracudas and how he’d like to better himself as a person. At one point getting to the point of asking Ichiban to keep an eye out for Moriko incase anything were to happen to him. His battle would be with past Barracuda members
Moriko - she’d talk about her work and all she’s lost and how things keep coming back to haunt her and how recently she thinks she keeps seeing someone outside her shop window from an incident from her past, Ichiban would offer to tell Grit but Moriko pleads against it and her battle would be with the person
(I love them very dearly but I won’t post them much)
Here’s some extra Moriko outfits I had for her back in June there also going to have matching playlists

✎ = speaking in a different language .
@katsuko-rp-blog
send one for my muse’s reaction to your muse —
Nextday knows about the kitsunes - specifically Katsuko, Moriko, and Kiyuki - although she hasn't personally met any of them. She's only heard about them from her alternates. Thus, she has a vague understanding of what they look like and what their personalities are like, and - no offense meant to them - she doesn't particularly want much to do with any of them.
It really is nothing against them. It's that she doesn't want much to do with anyone. And it's especially easy for her to carry through with this desire when the one she's just met (Moriko) starts speaking to her in a language she doesn't recognize. She's perfectly aware that her phone has a translation app on it and it's possible that the kitsune's language is programmed into it, but she isn't sure she wants to strike up a conversation anyway.
Well. Manners that were pounded into her head during her life apparently weren't pounded out of her head in death, so she sighs and says, "I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're saying. I don't know if you can understand me either, but just one sec."
Then she goes about pulling her phone out of her pocket and opening up the translation app to see if it'll work.

This is a list of characters I need to make bios for.
Bun - A Lopunny who was a victim to the Granbull.
Dual - A Lucario who wields a Duoblade, and who's mega evolution makes him look like a knight with a sword and shield.
Gaunt - A Lucario who's a close up brawler that fights with a pair of gauntlets and wears a pair of goggles. Though she's timid.
Moriko and Miran - A pair of alolan Ninetails who wield magic. Moriko is more elemental and potions than her counterpart. Miran can only use his magic abilities to glimpse the future.
Sargent - An older Arcanine who's missing his right eye, and is a bit bigger than most other Arcanine.
