Today in 1999, I attended the Long Tall Weekend release party show at NYC's Irving Plaza two days before my 25th birthday 🙌

After the show ended, we received unexpected party favors in the form of an Emusic t-shirt and the coveted Long Tall Weekend CD 😲

Afterwards, I was outside the venue and somebody leaving asked if anyone wanted his VIP pass. I certainly did 😎

I'm gravely sorry for missing They Day, I was far too distracted by several things.
As an apology, here is an interesting performance of the song "They Got Lost".
This is a version that I like to call the middle version because...
It's faster than the slow version, but slower than the fast version.
The bridge has the same number of measures as the slow version.
This performance also comes from one of Graham Maby's last shows as a full-time bassist for They Might Be Giants (he would briefly return in '99, due to Danny Weinkauf being on paternity leave).

“The token back to Brooklyn fell between the grating, and we're just watching it sinking. The fare went up to one hundred dollars, and we can never go home again! The bill collector's drinking lighter fluid, and says he'll tell our parents! Our feet start running at a furious pace, but we can't get away.”

Reblogging this for LTW's 25th anniversary (yes I know this is referring to the Severe Tire Damage version, but still).

From the TMBG collection: My VIP/All Access laminates. No, I have never been backstage. These all came from eBay except Long Tall Weekend, which was given to me after the release party show.

The artist who created the album art for Long Tall Weekend is Michael Kupperman! He also created art for each song on the original release of the album. The art for each song on the album can be seen here

there’s something very cool and inspiring to me about the original designer for They Might Be Giants’ “Long Tall Weekend” album art going back and redesigning it for the recent rerelease.
i love seeing artists revisit old work and showing their improvement !!

Note
It seems as if Long Tall Weekend wasn’t always regarded as TMBG’s 7th studio album upon its release. What changed? What was your mindset when releasing it?
JF: Live albums, kids projects, rarities compilations and such always muck things up. I have no real thoughts or insights beyond that.

Fun fact! The time between BOOK and the unannounced 24th studio album (3 years, 13 days & counting) is the longest distance between two *studio* releases in the history of TMBG!
Before it, in second place, is The Escape Team/MMR to Book, at 2 years, 11 months, 2 days, and Factory Showroom to Long Tall Weekend, at 2 years, 9 months, and 11 days.
