Babylon 5 Rewatch Ep 1.03 Born to the Purple

If you all thought I’d do anything other than cute Londira art for this ep, you’ve misjudged me.

Born to the Purple is a chance to see behind Londo’s mask, and introduces a theme of his character throughout. It also showcases a couple of his most prominent traits. He’s a romantic - he loves grand gestures and beauty and find things. He wants to take care of his dancer and is so happy to give his heart to her because love is all he wants. He’s too trusting - so hungry for a good thing that he can’t see past them to possible danger. And his sense of forgiveness and self-sacrifice - even after everything, Londo is concerned about Adira’s safety and look after her. And Adira is so heartbroken to betray him, you can tell she truly cares. Even with freedom at her fingertips she puts her life at risk to avoid ruining him. The tears in her eyes when she leaves are grateful and sad. I can go on and on about Londo and Adira. They’re my B5 OTP. If only she’d stayed...

Things I love about this episode:

1, Centauri fashion is both wonderful and terrible.

2, The opening scene with the boys all at the bar watching Adira dance is a hint at the kinship L and G will find later. When the politics and the hatred are set aside, they can drink together and smile.

3. When Londo kisses her goodbye with his eyes open, like he wants to keep every glimpse of her, knowing their time is short.

Things I don’t love about this episode

(stay Adira! He needs you! Make him feel less powerless, give him something to persist for!)

I’ve finally been able to write the otp in my Beyond the Rim fanfic, so I took a little bit today to unwind and draw some Londria flirting. Londo’s like “gotta check on these afterlife reports” and Adira’s like “Allow me to interrupt....”

Hi, I'm the freak who just went through, like, your entire B5 tag! (I'm extremely starved for content, don't judge me!) Anyway, I just wanted to say that I love your art!! And I totally understand your frustration with Bruce Boxleitner's Generically Handsome Face. I've tried to draw him on multiple occasions, haven't liked how it turned out once.

I also really enjoy your rewatch posts! What you had to say about the season 1 episode "Believers" made me realize why that episode never really sat right with me.

I'd also like you to know that you've given me a whole new appreciation for Londira, and for Adira in general :)

It was thrilling to have you rifle through my B5 tag. A walk down memory lane. And I’m glad you enjoyed the rewatch post! It’s inspired me to try and start them up again. I put a pause on them during 2020 because neither @gin-007 nor I had the emotional strength to eviscerate ourselves during a global pandemic and time of historic political and social unrest... I mean it’s only escapism if you go somewhere DIFFERENT, right? But I gotta put my watch numbers into HBO Max to show WB how wrong they are about B5′s viability just like I did with go90 for that brief and beautiful time we had that. So keep an eye out for more pic-an-eps at some point in the future. 

And welcome to the Londira bandwagon, it’s a small but sturdy vehicle and will carry you far assuming you like to cry. 

And to feed your lack of content I was going to whip out a link to my fancomic to help  ( @babylon6comic ) but I peeked and looks like you already follow it... so I dunno, you like fanfic? I’ve got an afterlife AU over on ao3.
