mace? 👀
maceee!!
one of my fave jedi hands down
as for headcanons, to me he is (after Dooku) the daddest dad to ever jedi
like, in legends he had two other padawans before depa. which is overall the same amount of padawans as dooku – who is like twenty or so years older! considering the time and care that goes into raising a padawan, mace had to have had them just back to back from the moment he could!
also i've seen so many lines of him from comics and books about how depa is basically his daughter!!!
he is so dad coded!!!
(plus hes one of the characters i strongly hc as ace)

Shadow and Bone
I can't believe they didn't save my draft hahaha. Anywayyy I just finished reading Shadow and Bone last night, which probably wasn't wise considering I have exams coming up and I am not the sort of person to quickly move on from a book, especially when it has affected me SO MUCH. OH MY GOD. This book is easily one of the best books I have ever read. The way I read it was different. I read it (mostly) line by line instead of the usual skimming cause I had to know what was going on.
Alright, before I get carried away, I would just like to say that I'm no professional book reviewer and this is simply a very messy get-out-of-my-system rambling.
AAA I feel like screaming, I love this book so so much. First of all, the world building was amaaazing. It was clear, even though I don't understand some words, but it didn't really bother me. I liked it actually. I liked the unfamiliarity and ancientness (?) this book had. So, Duke Keramsov's house, the skiff (whatever that is lol), the Fold!! The Little Palace, The Grand Palace, I feel like everything was beautifully and intricately described, and it was consistent throughout the storyline. The Grisha, with their signature colours, elaborate keftas, AAAAA just wowww. I rarely feel this way, but I want so much to live in this world (probably not as a peasant though).
So we move on to the CHARACTERS!! I loved each and every one of them. Even though (spoiler alert) The Darkling turned out to be evil and super manipulative, which I guess I was pretty oblivious that he wasn't, but I don't care. His character was so compelling you wanted to get to know him better. Same goes to Alina Starkov, man I loved her. I mean how often do we get a female protagonist who isn't a) super pretty but insists that she isn't or b) completely useless during enemy attacks where she only cries and says "don't die, I love you" to her lover who got shot because of her? I don't know actually, but I assume pretty little. I can't help but relate to her, and the fact that she was not really beautiful until she truly discovered her powers, I mean wow. Wait, I have a quote coming up.
"After a moment, I realized I was just gawking at myself in the mirror and had to smile. For a girl who hated looking at herself, I was at risk of becoming vain"
I felt this quote so much hahahhaa.
Moving on to Mal, or (wait I forgot his full name) Malyen Oretsev, another amazing character. Although to be honest I thought I was gonna hate him. Started off as Alina's first love interest also her best friend, if not her only, but then we're introduced to the Darkling, another love interest which Alina completely fell for. I mean I guess she was pretty naive, but I can understand that! She was an orphan who desperately craved for attention and love and the Darkling saw that and took advantage of that. Also, you have to admit, he is pretty charming and powerful. Anyway, at first I thought Mal would just be the once-was-a-friend-but-now-strangers after you know, he got popular in the army, and he seemed to doubt Alina's powers and he didn't reply to any of her letters, (wasn't his fault though) and that fight they had, and considering the usual course of YA books to side with the centuries-old hot, dark and mysterious instead of the best friend who has known her all her life (same age) so yeah. But lo and behold, I WAS BEYOND HAPPY when they ended up together!!! (oops another spoiler) Like YESSSSS. Alina and Mal to the death yalll.
Also, another thing I love about them is that one person doesn't have to depend on the other like even though Alina is the Sun Summoner, Mal is not at all weak cause he's like a super awesome tracker and vice versa, you know? Like when they faced the robbers, it's not just Mal being like "leave her alone" but also Alina with her training and the mirror action, I love these two so muchhh. Alright another quote coming up.
"We found our way back to each other, Alina. That's all that matters."
I mean, AAAAAAAAAAA. Also, I love that Mal isn't one of those male characters who's pathetic and like "I should be the one defending you" or "I should be the one giving you gifts" etc etc.
Okay, I should really be studying now, so byeeee. I'm not done rambling though, still a lot here but I feel a little lighter, so that's good. Part 2 coming pretty soon. Also, if you have any recommendations of books like Shadow and Bone, please please let me know.
