I am sorry for sending you an angst prompt but... I had a thought seeing this one: "I wish people came with a warning label about how exactly they'll fuck you up. And you know what's wrong with me? I would've read yours and still chosen to tag along." - Rose Tyler and a Doctor of your choice, mid argument. Bonus points if it's an argument because he tried to send her away for her own safety, Bonus bonus if he succeeded and she came back powerful and pissed off - just not in a canon situation.

@lotsofthinkythoughts, my dearest pal, thank you for your patience. i won't tax it further with a long disclaimer, lol. however, i will say that i fudged the quote a little bit, just to fit it in how i wanted. i also picked nine for my doctor, because i love him... aaaaand enjoy the angst! (if this can really qualify as angst...)

Their cell was just like any other, unremarkable except maybe for the heat.

"Rose," he said.

"I don't want to hear it."

Sweat was darkening the hair at her nape, making it stick. She'd shed her jacket hours ago, and sat now with her back against the cinderblock wall, unsuccessfully attempting to cool herself down. In spite of her efforts, the concrete was as warm and muggy to the touch as everything else.

"But what—?"

Hair whipping, she turned to glare at him. "I'm not talking to you right now."

The Doctor scoffed. Slouched against the opposite wall, he looked irritably unaffected by the humidity. His leather coat still hung off him, and though his face had kind of a glow to it, he had no need to wipe away beading sweat like she did. She quietly resented him for this.

Or rather, she resented him for other reasons—mostly—but also for that. For how put-together he looked when she was falling apart. Her eyes fluttered closed; a golden afterimage asserted itself.

He'd tried to send her away. Again.

Of course, it wasn't "again" for him, not yet. He was still young—so young, possibly too young for her to be messing about with, in the grand scheme of her timeline—and wearing the first face she'd met. The one with that goofy, indescribable pride and those clear blue eyes with such gentle lines around them. The light and the dark in constant opposition over his heavy brow.

She couldn't say it didn't hurt, seeing him again. Knowing what was coming in their still-far-off future.

What she hadn't anticipated was being shoved back into the TARDIS on her own and sent flying—thankfully, not irreversibly—back in time, in a rescue attempt so pointlessly stupid and cosmically dangerous that she'd wanted to wring his neck upon return.

Did he even realise the danger that would've put them in? Put the whole multiverse in?

And then when she'd landed the TARDIS—safely, she might add—and come storming out, he'd gotten them both locked up in prison. Less than ten minutes, it took.

The Doctor sighed. "Rose, just—"

"Shut up."

What really hurt was that she'd tried to tell him, tried to explain herself, and he just wouldn't listen.

He never did, not when he thought he knew better. That hadn't changed over the years and bodies, but it was particularly bad with him—with the Doctor she'd met first.

She wasn't even sure if he'd worked it out yet.

That she was a fixed point.

Because he wasn't listening. It was all blah-blah-blah, nattering and pretending and scheming and ignoring the reality right beneath his nose.

A sharp sigh boiled up in her chest. She was tired of feeling hurt—hurt, in turn, always seemed to make her angry.

A gate clanged somewhere down the line. Some other cell. She couldn't tell if an inmate was coming or going.

"You know what's funny?" she said, not strictly speaking to him.

"I thought you didn't want to talk."

She ignored him. It was easy with her eyes closed.

"What's funny is how you never learn."

It felt good to say. It felt good to be an authority on something—and if there was one thing she knew, it was him. In all his many shapes, accounting for every variable. She knew him.

And it was true: "You never do, no matter how many times I run into you. You try to push me away every single time."

She heard a little scuffing sound. His boot against stone. Even with her eyes closed, she could visualize that boot: black and scuffed and heavy.

"And that's all right, I've come to expect it," she pushed on. "You're the lonely god aboard your lonely ship. That's who you want to be, apparently."

He huffed like he meant to say something, but her eyes flared open, and he stopped.

Hurt made her angry, yes. And anger made her burn.

She got to her feet without really knowing how. "But sometimes, Doctor, I wish people came with a warning label—a nice, specific one with a list of every possible way they could fuck you up. And yours," —she laughed roughly at the way he stiffened and stood a little taller, unused to hearing her curse, "—oh, yours would be a mile long."

His forehead was doing something ominous. But it didn't much matter. She was burning, burning. She was always burning, had always been. Her irises felt molten around the black holes of her pupils. She pushed off the wall, abrading her palms.

"You have made me more afraid than anything else in my life. More than getting fucked over by Jimmy Stone, more than losing my dad. You."

Losing you, she didn't say.

"And yet you keep coming back." His words were practically a sneer. But there was a vulnerability to them—she wasn't sure if he was even aware of it, how the syllables lifted at the end. How the pain marked itself out in between his eyebrows, a little dimple she loved and mourned in equal measure. "From across universes, if your story's to be believed."

"We wouldn't be in this cell," she said, struggling to sound calm, "if you'd believed my story, Doctor. But instead you shut me out and made a scene and now we're shut up here. So while we're stuck together, you're gonna listen."

Her eyes shuttered themselves. She couldn't bear the burning anymore, not when her whole body was slicked with sweat already. A deep breath in, out… in again, and the afterimages—the future memories, the past potentialities—faded, leaving her vision clear.

It was only him, and only her.

Rose stood in the center of the room, on the invisible line which, in crossing, would bring her into his world, with its smells of leather and engine oil and sweet-sharp mint. It would carry her to the place where she could see the fine ring around his light eyes. A saturated blue, like the widest rings around Uranus.

She paused. She stepped.

"You're right," she admitted, "I do always find my way back, no matter how many times you insist I'll be happier somewhere else, or that you're better off alone, or that it's too dangerous. I keep coming back. Every time you shut me out and pack me off home and make decisions for me—I come back."

Her approach was slow, as if toward an animal she didn't want to spook. Her pink tank top had plastered itself to her back; her hair had long since come out of its clip. She didn't move to fix either. She just drew closer and closer, while the Doctor stared, his eyes narrowed and unreadable.

He was unsure of her, she could tell that much—and unsure in a way she'd never noticed, back then. Because he'd seemed so capable, so much larger-than-life, that it had never occurred to her what kind of shadow she might cast.

She took another step. "Truth is, I would've read all those warnings and I would've still chosen to tag along. D'you know why?"

She was close now. The dusty air sweltered. She wanted to touch him—was debating whether or not it was worth the risk—when she noticed his hand. At his side, it made a tight fist. He didn't shake his head, but he didn't have to.

Taking in a shallow breath, she forced the words out: "It's because you will always be worth it to me. And maybe that makes me an idiot, maybe there's something wrong with me, but it doesn't matter. The danger and the fear that comes with this life… will always be less important… than being with you."

His eyes jumped skittishly back and forth between hers, unsure where to land. She watched his Adam's apple bob in his throat.

"I'm saying this now, because I never got to say it when we traveled together. But you need to hear it." They were close enough now that one more step would put her squarely in his arms. "You can keep dodging and avoiding, that's fine; it might drive me spare, but it won't stop me coming back when the universe—or your own stubbornness—pulls us apart. You should know that, Doctor."

A memory seized her. Her own voice, screaming, "Take me back! Take me back!" Another memory overlaid itself.

If losing that life was what had defined her youth, finding it again was what defined her now.

Finding her way back, no matter what. To him, and to the life she knew she was meant to be living.

Her hand rose, both of them watching as if it belonged to neither of them, but was acting on its own volition. When it landed squarely in the middle of his chest, she felt his dual-pulse against both pinkie and thumb.

Spanning the space between his hearts.

Looking up, she said, "D'you understand?"

And for once, his magnificent gob seemed to have slowed to a near stop. He nodded. His eyes were vivid, burning, beautiful, no more or less than they always were. She remembered them brown, and green, and then in different shades of blue.

But he shone through those crowded memories and not-quites and maybes.

"I understand, Rose," he rasped.

"Good." She nodded. "Then stop fucking arguing with me about it," she said—forcefully, only about half a second before their lips collided.

His skin tasted like dust, and then in a moment like something sweeter and richer and more familiar. She reached for it, her hands scrabbling at his coat, and her tongue swiping at his soft inner lip. Everything she wanted was here. Everything was good. Everything was so clean and perfect and nothing else mattered.

And maybe because everything was so good and clean and perfect, it couldn't last. The universe felt like that sometimes, slowing and urging with rhyme or reason. It could stretch moments like taffy or cut them to the quick, cut them right out of existence.

In a blink, Rose was gone again. Back in the midst of a battle that was far, far from over.

But the Doctor—she couldn't know it, not then, but the Doctor had been listening.

And for once in his long and frequently foolish life, he grasped the heart of things. As he pressed his lips together, tasting gloss and the underlying hint of salt, he understood.

Finally and unmistakably.

She would come back again.

I'm going to do this because all my titles are boringly hilarious 😂😂 It will be only wips that aren't published yet (I have more wips that are published on ao3 which I need to continue but I'll concentrate on wips that haven't seen the light of a day yet). All these fics are something I started and one day might finish XD I'm dividing the list by fandoms because there are too many 🤷‍♀️

Fairy Tail:

and there was one bed - new gratsu fic; you can imagine what it is about 😂

Slayers mating - gratsu idea that is somewhat written in the form of an outline and some scenes are actually written; I have no idea when I'll finish it 😅

gray is secretly a vampire - crack fic where outsiders decide Gray is a vampire and rumors spread like wildfire, pure humor; I'm pretty sure I saw some post on tumblr and had an idea

gratsu natsu knocks on the door - I'm pretty sure the title is a pun to the opening scene of my only multichap gratsu fic, A Sham

Naruto:

kushina lives AU - exactly what it says, I'm working on it on and off every now and then; while Kushina lives, Tsunade is actually the main character, collecting kids just like old ladies collect cats 🤣

seals naruto au wanting to keep the fox in - tbh this is basically just an idea in form of an outline and a few written snippets scattered around; don't really know if I'll ever write it completely

naruto timetravel 1 - this was actually supposed to be team 7 boruto timetraveling to naruto canon before that timetravel filler arc in boruto ever happened. sadly, I never tried to finish it

naruto timetravel 2 - naruto and sauske's consciousness from the future appear as flashes of memories/dreams to naruto and sasuke of the original naruto canon timeline before they graduated academy

kamui raw bondage - a kakaobi kinktober fic I never got around finishing, it was supposed to be a companion fic to my I've patched up the scrapes in my heart

One Piece:

LawLu stranded on an island AU plot - so this is one rare outline instead of a fic lmao (I never do real outlines 😂)

ofmd crossover - had an idea for a crossover but never finished it.

BNHA:

DFO/canon - tbh I don't even remember what this is supposed to be beyond DFO, but what I can see from a fast scan, it's one of the rare outlines lol

baku deku unconventional A/B/O - it's unconventional because it's alpha/alpha pairing; an old idea that I never got to finishing

genderswap au - ah this is one of the oldest wips in the fanfic folder; it's not so much of a genderswap as much as genderswap characters come to the canon through a portal; very fun

DabiHawks mermaid au - a discord drabble I wrote for a prompt and saved to finish one day

FT x DA:II crossover funny - just like it says: crackfic crossover of fairy tail and dragon age 2; Fenris is sure Natsu is a rage demon 🤣🤣🤣

Josuke'a accidental time travel adventure - I had a craving for Josuke time-traveling to part 3 and there was none to read. gasp. but then one day a fic with a similar premise appeared on ao3 so I read that instead of finishing my own XD

FuruSawa fic - an ace no diamond oneshot that just needs a satisfying end (which I need to write so who knows when I'll finish 🤣)

Shiki x Weisz - eden's zero fic just as title says XD

I still have a few more docs but those are literally a few sentences and I didn't bother to list them here

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Anton and Oberstein are once again "uh oh" in this situation. Mostly because of the war going on so as I've already explained in the PREVIOUS post for this kinda thing, they kinda are too military focused so not a chance with these two lmfao

Bruno? Would probably show them the ropes of how to be a Minister of Industry but it's kind of a stretch.

Bittenfeld has disconnected-

Muckenberger would keep them out of the war any way he can. Some fortress in the middle of buttfuck nowhere? You know he's assigning them there. I do say "them" because child soldiers are a thing in lotgh and I REALLY need to tag that- other than that??? Come on, domestic life Muckenberger I am SOFT FOR-

Ovlesser doesn't want to babysit. Either they're GOOD enough to join his division or they're out. No ifs no buts no maybes. So not a good choice LOL

Reinhard and Kircheis I like to think would extend some kind of "immune to military service" thing if they ever decided to adopt two boys. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, I'm not considering it as a choice however personally but maybe you do who knows!!

Kesler my sweet baby boy, he'd train them in the ways of MP (Military Police) stuff, or how to command a ship. ANYTHING he's a good teacher he's so patient and can shut down any arguments.

Schenkopf would do the same as Ovlesser but he's a little more lax on the rules. Still not a good choice LMFAO

Macross Frontier: Sheryl's still kinda fickle in this kinda setting. I mean it COULD turn out to be a Basara Nekki situation where the boys become a band!! There ARE male singers they're just rare in the Macross universe for some reason. STILL, she can still be an influence to them to start a band! Or, in classic Macross fashion, pilots! Possibilities are very limited

Robotech: Gloval would definitely check up on them while they stayed in the civilian zone. Or check on how they're doing with military stuff (pilots, gunners, extra bs yk lmfao)

Claudia once again, best aunt. Spoils them rotten and then some. Roy's just along for the ride and gets dragged everywhere.

Lisa again isn't the best choice there's not much she can do other than go "you need to be more responsible!" Type stuff, not the best option but certainly better than Ovlesser and Schenkopf

Breetai, Khyron and Exedore are wondering how these children got aboard that's literally it LMFAO

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion: See UNLIKE Azur Lane where there's potential there, these space boys don't have much potential unless your boys were the Commander or worked in construction for ship repairs or... Yeah very limited, no chance lmfao

Space Battleship Yamato: Similar to last post where it depends on verse with Dessler! Mostly he'd be wondering why they're not in the military

Domel's possibly either ignored them or let them play with the bird for a little while. Seriously idk why he goes everywhere with that thing!! Either way, very short thread unless there was human relations to work on Gamilan ships??? Again very limited.

Dietz would like to roll to keep them out of battle and dangerous weaponry. Would also adopt them on sight because of his daughter. No in-between lmfao

Gimleh jfc would do as the last post stated just less; indoctrinate into the military or kill them for fun. That's it don't let him near.

Gettoh either trains them as pilots or he's leaving and ignoring them.

Sanada! Once again BL verse is similar to Ned where he'd experiment, lotgh verse he'd rather focus on finding Mamoru Kodai and main verse he'd probably let them work around the lab!

Gairen, Zwordar and Nazca would rather kill them than let them interact. Although once again Nazca might develop a weird big brother family thing that he's worried about because, well, feelings gets a man killed in Gatlantis!

lol hey just remembered that i had these from dec 19th lol i think i was just so mentally unwell at the time that i couldn't actually process the fact that i had asks and was capable of answering them even tho i literally reblogged the ask game lol anyways was going through my drafts and saw this and i'm MUCH better now so i went through and found the game and imma do it now <3

hahhaahhaha character with an inferiority complex learning/being told that they're enough on their own/when those characters get in character content made of them ijuhygtfguiouygf because a lot of times they get misinterpreted or ignored </3 also. hanahaki <3

y - what are your secondhand fandoms (i.e., fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)?

OH! my number one secondhand fandom is wwdts thanks to @chasvchalilah <3 i have my Guy (colin robinson) and i feel like i basically know the whole plot thanks to shira and her incredible patience for all my questions and her kindness in telling me like. literally everything lol actually this reminds me i think the colin post shira tagged me in is in my drafts and that i actually forgot to reblog it. hm. gonna go find it after i post this lol also csm because grace watched it and i know it's not really a show that i'd like so i'm living it vicariously through them and moth and the other csm moots <3

z - just ramble about something fan-related, go go go! (Prompts optional but encouraged.)

ah this is dangerous omg okay oh gosh okay what do i choose okay so this is a very random thing to rant about, but it's fan-related so. but i lowkey hate in chatfics how writers always give characters different contact names. more often than not, i look at them and say "they would never choose that name" / "they would never name that person that" / "they would throw a fit if their name got changed to that" and like. it's just so irritating. i honestly think most blorbos would just call each other by their names in their contacts like. and if you're going to give them "silly" names (bc most times they just... aren't even funny to me personally), they don't even specify who is who! most of the time, i see them say something MAYBE at either the beginning or end of the first chapter and then usually never again even if the characters start changing each other's names! so it's just hard to keep up. i actually love chatfics and think they're such a cool idea and a great creative writing exercise, but they HAVE to be done right because they can go poorly/ooc SO quickly. not all characters use correct grammar, but some do. some will use capitalization and punctuation while others don't. some characters will use emojis or send memes and recite memes, OTHERS WON'T and you NEED to be able to figure this stuff out. also it is SO unrealistic for all the characters to constantly trauma dump because half these characters refuse to "show weakness" or don't know How to talk to people about what's wrong. oH AND ALSO not all characters are so unhinged in chatfics my God the way people write certain characters in how they text and what they text is so icky because it's just too unhinged we gotta stop giving characters that treatment ugh uh anyways also kenji is underused in the show and underrated by fans. there should be more kenji content. also unpopular opinion, but kenji is a more interesting character than chuuya and how does chuuya have like... 20k more fics in the chuuya tag than kenji has in his own tag? nothing against chuuya - i like him! i do! but why is he treated more like a main character than kenji:( maybe i'm just sad bc kenji is my favorite and barely has ANY content. there are SO few kenji-centric fics out there and a lot of them also are kenji & chuuya friendship which... admittedly, i LOVE but i feel like there's more kenji & chuuya than kenji & the ada members which is so sad??? also he deserves better in the show! smh he wasn't even in the s5 trailer (neither were junichiro and naomi ugh so upset about that) like pls. let everyone treat kenji more like an important member of the team bC HE IS😭

Jemi <3 i just thought of it lol and i think it sounds cute LOL

3. what do you call each other?

disclaimer: even tho i am a romantic, i’m not a softie at all when it comes to affection 😭 i like to think my s/o will draw that part out of me, but when it comes to petnames i rarely use them. so i think i would refer to jean by simple terms of endearment such as babe, baby, love, and of course his name. maybe jeanbo/jeanboy if i’m teasing.

i’d like to think he’s the opposite of me and would really lay it on me. his choice would probably be “babe” as well or a variation of my name that only he calls me. but some examples would probably be : baby, love, cutie, sweetie, pretty etc. even if i don’t believe his praises or they make me blush, he’d still call me or really his significant other things like that because he’s firm on reassurance. i guess that would show that one of his love language is words of affirmation. he’s big on adjectives as nicknames, so he’d also tease me back like that (“weirdo” “meanie”)

4. who confessed first?

jean for sure, but i’d be quick to follow. i’m a true saggitarius at heart, and jean’s an aries- which means two fire signs and a whirlwind of passion. he’d confess, probably just blurt it out and since i have (had?) a huge fear of rejection, i’d probably hesitate out of fear, not out of doubt of my own feelings. although i tend to doubt anyone who does tell me they love me LMAOO. but once i muster up the courage to confess i like him too, there would be no way for me to unattach myself from him.

5. how long have you been together ?

hmm i’d like to say we’re still in our honeymoon stage. maybe 2 years in? since i’m a college student it’s hard to imagine that far into the future for myself. so i say we’d be college juniors who started dating freshman year.

6. are you affectionate?

i am not affectionate, unfortunately. maybe that’s hard to believe because i literally write romantic fanfiction. but i think that tends to come through in my writing and how awkward it is whenever anything actually romantic happens JAKEUEUEU.

i have a soft spot for Jean, though, so even though I am not very affectionate i will give the little affectionate i can muster to him completely. i’m not big on physical touch, but i would never refuse his hugs or forehead kisses. he wants to cuddle? i’m down.

when it comes to stuff such as PDA or hand holding in public. though, that’s where i shy away. i have a huge disdain for PDA (i’ve been told it’s a flaw) 😭 but in private? a different person. also- i am good with words. two of my love languages are gift giving and acts of service, so i think i can express myself those ways as well. but i think Jean would like me for my ability to reassure him or comfort him through words.

jean is affectionate, but i think he’d agree PDA is uncomfortable and cringey. he’d for sure be the one initiating the cuddle sessions though. i think he’d cling to me in bed, and he’s the only person that i wouldn’t mind it.

however social media i think we'd both post each other equally, mostly funny pictures and when it's an important event heartfelt messages. i'm a sucker for that <33

7. living together/married?

living together, although in real life i don’t think i’d want to live with anyone before i’m married solely because i treasure my personal space and i wouldn’t want to give that up unless i absolutely have to 😭 but since this is a fanfiction, let’s say i magically release my inhibitions and move in with Jean while we’re young. we’ll get married later in life, but those first couple of years living together would be sweet, and i wouldn’t mind sharing my space with Jean.

8. kids

we have kids after a few years of marriage, i’d like to say two or three. gender doesn’t matter to jean, but he secretly always wanted a girl. i’d like to think our youngest would be a girl, and he’d totally spoil her. he’d still love all of them equally regardless, because he's jean and he can't have favorites. he would be the most sweet, understanding parent. he’s also pretty competent, unlike some fathers who think being useless around kids is cute 🙄

9. what your friend group looks like

our friend group would consist of Sasha, Connie, Eren, Mikasa, Marco, Ymir and Historia. Sometimes Reiner, but he’s more my friend than Jean’s.

10. how you each get along with your friends

Eren and Jean constantly bicker, but it’s obvious they both care for each other or else they wouldn’t have stuck around as long. I’d like to think Levi and Hange are also involved but truthfully Levi would get annoyed by me and Hange wouldn’t want to hang around kids much younger than them, and can we blame them? they’ll come around every once in a while, maybe even drag Levi along, but they’re not a constant presence in our friend group. (they were still invited to our wedding tho- and yes they did show up with Levi and Erwin)

I mostly get along with Historia and Sasha, but Ymir and I are the ones always “arguing”. I think jean and i would meet through Sasha, because Sasha is my ideal bestie. Marco and Connie are Jean's bestest friends. There’s rarely any drama in our friend group, besides banter and bickering but never anything too deep. Jean and I for sure gossip about them to each other, and only each other. He’s a huge chismoso in private.

11. night in or night out

night out!! my social battery would drain after a few hours but Jean is always understanding and content with going home early, or just chilling in a corner with me until it’s deemed acceptable to bounce. we both have our day ins, but were both too adventurous to not go out often and explore new places. we prefer solo dates, but we also thrive around our friend group.

12. your favorite date day/night

i’m a simple creature, so my favorite type of date night is anything with cheesy carnival tropes or a tourist attraction. for example, in my town we have winter lights and interactive museums and i think jean would love going to those things with me and just feasting on mexican food when we’re done. road "trips" an hour away are also common. we’re both spontaneous, so fancy planning or a strict schedule is not necessary. but i’m also a sucker for going out to eat then watching a movie at home and doing facemasks llike the baddies we are.

How I Outline

@haztobegood and @lululawrence tagged me to share my outlining process - thank you! I find it so interesting seeing how other people work, but also I feel like we're all interpreting the question differently, which is funny. Or at least I am. I don't ever have just 1 WIP I'm working on, and most of the stuff I write is shorter and needs less outlining anyway, so I'm doing this more as a general writing process/planning type thing?

I don’t have a standard ‘this is how I always do it’. I prefer to ride the wave of inspiration and just start writing - get down as much as I can before that first rush of an idea ebbs away. (Also I legitimately tell myself the story, so I have actual sentences of description and dialogue, and if I don’t put them down I’ll lose them.)

If I don’t have time to write, then I’ll jot down just a brief idea or outline. That can range from literally ‘Ace Lou’ (I think that’s my shortest ‘idea’ I have on my list currently) to a short paragraph:

Fairytale Ziam - Very loosely based on Rapunzel(/Shrek), with Liam as the princess in the tower, Niall as the friendly knight rescuer, Louis as the less friendly knight rescuer, Harry as the Royal Advisor and Zayn as the King with anxiety who is never seen by his people.

(Yes I am a little annoyed that I missed the fairy tale fest sign-ups, but also, I don’t need another fic with a deadline so maybe it’s for the best)

Sometimes I’ll write a couple of paragraphs if the fic is more thought out, or sometimes I’ll include some snippets of dialogue. Very occasionally I’ll write a checklist of scenes, but I’m not often that organised, and to be honest, most of what I write is short enough that it’s not really necessary.

But guys, what I’m most proud of? This:

I have a Trello board! I’ve only been using it since October, but I find it so much easier than starting a new Google doc when the idea might be just that and not get any further (I start a doc when I actually start writing properly). Also because I always have this amount of stuff bubbling away and I can’t keep all that in my head/organise my Google docs enough for it to make sense.

Far left is what I’m meant to be working on currently (see my big bang at the top, overdue according to my own schedule), 'second tier' is stuff that’s got a fair amount written, or I’m really excited about, but isn’t a priority or close to being completed, 'backburner' is stuff that may never happen (it makes me sad, and I might have to rescue those bottom two) and fourth is where all the ideas and prompts that I haven’t started writing go (25 things on that list at the moment..! Hit me up if you ever need a prompt, lol). Far right (not pictured) is where I move stuff across to when I’ve posted it.

Each project has:

estimated length (always wrong and constantly increased as I go along)

I can add due dates if anything has a deadline and easily see at a glance what I’m meant to be working on. Revolutionary. I love it. I only have a 1D board set up at the moment but I fully intend to use this process to sort out my thicket bush of half-finished WIPs in the Endeavour and Merlin fandoms at some point.

Oh, hello!

I'm afraid I cannot tell you how to find things on this hellsite; not even the Old Hellsite Gods know that. I can however do my best to explain the tags I use for this small, specific circle of hell(site). (And no worries, as shall be immediately demonstrated, I can and will ramble even about tags.)

I never intended for the tags here to be anything but a help to find things myself, so I'm not sure how useful you'll find them? A very common but useless for anyone but me tag for example is "my posts and additions". It used to be two tags, one for posts where I was the op and one for things I added to someone else's post, but as most of the posts I make are meta discussion stuff, the whole point is that people add to them and you can bounce thoughts back and forth, so it became that catch both versions thing. But it really only exists so I can find my own posts for personal reference and stuff; why would anyone else want to specifically find my ramblings? Another useless tag is "good omens"... This is my Good Omens sideblog, so almost everything here is Good Omens.

Okay. So. Common and/or actually useful tags. (How to tag search note: you can find tagged posts by entering the tag into the URL bar of your browser behind a blog's address. Replace all spaces with a dash. So searching for "good omens" on my blog will become "https://on-stardust-wings.tumblr.com/tagged/good-omens". I'm putting links for the bigger things, but I'll still be here by Christmas if I link every individual thing. As you will see, it's quite a list.)

There are things I consider Category Tags, which are pretty self-explanatory:

"good omens season 2" or "good omens 2" (Block that to avoid spoilers. I try to be consistent, but I'm fairly sure I've spelled it out as "two" a few times, or forgot the "season", so to be safe, block all conceivable versions of those if you need.)

"good omens meta"

"good omens headcanon"

"good omens fanart"

"good omens fic" (other fic tags are "good omens fic rec", "ficlet" for the short read-on-tumblr things, and "my fics" and "my writing" which is currently just a bit of ramblings about writing progress and anecdotes, but will be more about the actual fics once I start posting something)

"behind the scenes"

Character Tags are usually a character's full name (so "Newton Pulsifer" instead of "Newt"). For filtering, these are useful if you're looking for stuff including one of the less common characters, but as so many posts are tagged "Aziraphale" and "Crowley", usefulness for filtering of those two character tags is debatable. But I do use them consistently, so knock yourself out finding an endless list of Crowley posts.

Topic Tags filter for something specific, like scenes, events, settings or themes.

These include the Through the Ages Tags: "Eden", "the Fall", "1941", "1967", "1862", "the Bastille", "the Flood", "the Crucifixion", "41 AD" (might be sometimes tagged as "41 A.D." or simply as "Rome"), "Wessex", "the Globe" and "2007".

Events I know I have tagged would be "the Body Swap", "the Bandstand" and "the Bookshop Fire". Other common topic tags are "Aziraphale's Bookshop", "Crowley's Flat", "Crowley's Plants", "the Bentley", "Heaven", "Hell", "Holy Water", "Hellfire", "the Eagle Lectern", "the Wrestling Angels", "the Convent", "the M25", "love", "friendship", "imagination", "miracles" and I'm sure I've forgotten something.

Try "lol" or "OMG I'm wheezing" for funny things, and "oops it's sad" for posts that happened to catch the angst and depression train.

As they tend to be hard to find, posts with Book!Omens content of any kind are tagged "book omens".

I also have a tag for "wings", because wings are epic. Searching by that will give you lots of cool artwork with beautiful and fluffy angel and demon wings, plus a handful of meta discussion and fic.

Some non-Good Omens tags that sometimes come up are "fanfiction", "writing" (and variances and combinations thereof), "queer" and "ace stuff". But very few things here aren't Good Omens.

I suppose that's it. Happy fighting with the hellsite search and filtering function.

It's been 6 years :)

On March 30th, 2015 I decided I wanted a gaming side blog. (so we're early, but shush, it's the month for me)

I didn't know what I'd use it for exactly, but I had ideas- something I always have even if most of them only get as far as daydreamin' or writing out before closing them :P

For proof on the lack of direction the blog initially had- the March 30th date is the anniversary of my first post, an in-depth and lengthy review of Dragon Warrior Monsters for the GBC.

If you know the blog then you know "Extremely long and in-depth reviews" aren't the norm around here. As a matter of fact, that first post is the ONLY one I've done!

The closest I've come to ever repeating that would be the (word of the day) Directionless video I put out on Hades to get a grip on the concept of making videos, but that wasn't nearly as much of a 'review' as that first post is.

Tangent, definitely planning on trying my hand at videos some more for the foreseeable future. Probably not gonna use the tagline Full Impressions that I tossed as a whim for the Hades video but yeah- I'm excited to try my hand at a few videos :) tangent over.

It didn't take me long to come up with what I'd like to do for the blog though :)

A few months later I liveblogged a challenge run of FFT where I used only Ramza- a solo run. - Which maybe only happened because I tried a nuzlocke run a year prior on my main account-

Thanks to that haphazard liveblog experiment I started to realize a couple things which became the primary motivators behind this blog.

1) I LOVE sharing experiences. No brainer, I'm sure, but being able to share my experiences, and compare them with others' experiences, and just that mutual sharing is uplifting and feels good to do.

2) Liveblogging is an EXCEPTIONAL motivator to buckle down and play all those games I said I'd play (cue everyone laughing because I'm still way behind and have an immeasurable backlog).

But I mean that, on both respects. I have plenty of motivators toward the blog today, but if I were to be concise it's pretty much "It's easier to beat games if I liveblog them- otherwise I get distracted and play other games" and "I love sharing experiences and thoughts with people about my favorite thing- games."

Since 2015 I've tackled around 70 games as full playthroughs, and an untold ton as one offs or just to ramble about for a bit.

I've had a lot of highlights over the years, and I don't talk much about it as an overall experience so I thought for the anniversary I'd try to do just that. Not everything- I can't say I have photographic memory that would bring all of it up without prompting after all :P But whatever comes to mind as I browse some of my old stuff- as well as some thoughts on what I'd like to see in the future.

It's gonna be a bit self-centric I assume as I type this preamble to it, so let me say outright that this blog wouldn't be half of what it is without all the people who've given it the time of day over the years.

From recommending games they love or appreciate, to comparing thoughts, to offering kind words for analysis I've done over the years, to pointing out when I'm dumb and misread a situation :P- to, yes, even the people who decided "Fuck this guy's ramble" and deleted my captions before reblogging my gifs way back during Hamtaro (Of COURSE I remember that! It's amusing lol).

This is better because of others, because of the interactions and the people I've gotten the chance to chat with or befriend. It's just a liveblog more or less, my own little bit of fun I toss out for myself if for anyone- so seeing others enjoy this or that from the work I put into sharing my experiences or thoughts is always a joy in itself :)

Anyway, onto selfishly rambling about some tidbits of the past :)

This'll be disorganized as heck as I'll add to it over time before I feel it's worth posting (or the tumblr post editor becomes a hassle and more or less forces me to).

First~

FFT Solo Ramza Challenge: Considering it was roughly the first thing this blog has done, it's also something that's stuck in my head a lot more clearly than most of the other stuff I've done to be honest lol.

In truth, this is partially because FFT is my favorite game, bar none. But it's also because the whole experience was pretty new to me. Prior to it I had really only done one self-imposed-challenge that wasn't requested by the game in some manner and that was a nuzlocke run of Blue version.

So adding a challenge to my favorite game was a fantastic experience!

Notes I just wanted to say today about that run: If anyone enjoys FFT I honestly recommend giving it a shot for the unique story it lends itself to. I do recommend skipping the rules until after the second battle but that's up to YOU to decide.

My first post on the subject is me complaining about spending 4 hours grinding out the second fight and, despite hyperbole being my natural state, that was NOT hyperbole.

It DID take 60~ restarts to beat. It DID take 4 hours. The reason is that that 2nd battle is RNG as HECK, you HAVE to have Delita do some meaningful actions, you HAVE to have the enemies miss and make poor plays, you damn near HAVE to crit a few instances to save yourself from taking too much damage.

It's a numbers game to the extreme, so I wouldn't fault anyone for 'cheating' and skipping the 2nd fight for the ruleset lol.

The memory that stands out the most for that run is actually isolated in a post in which Ramza (Purrick in this run) talks like a total badass as just ONE DUDE running into a room full of enemies. I just think on that as a great encapsulated view of what it was like. The run started off face grindingly difficult, but because FFT is a game that offers so much freedom to the player it was extremely easy to 'break' the game into making Purrick overpowered as hell.

That's something I love about some tactical RPGs, I love having the ability to play smart so that I can play stupid later on, and breaking the game into making him one shot god is certainly a good payoff for playing smart early on :P

RetQuick: I miss RetQuick, it was primarily a short experiment I did in 2015 where I'd play a game for a short span of time (REALLY short, like 10-20 minutes) and record that for the purpose of making gifs and saying a short piece on what I thought.

It's one of those formats where the purpose was pretty shallow- but had a reason. I wanted to try making some gifs with some tools that existed online, so I made an excuse to do just that.

I also wanted to play a TON of games, usually through emulation on my sister's PSP, and this let me do that.

These two minor goals came together and so I spent a while making RetQuicks which were honestly more fun to make than they had any right to be. I mean the gifs were tedious but the playing? The thought sharing? The end product ocassionally having more appeal than just a photoset? It was fun.

I'm thinking whenever I have trouble picking a game for the blog I'll revisit the format... sorta.

I already reused it for a short stint to show clips I had no plan on expanding into a playthrough, but that died as well as it was too similar to Tidbits posts (another tag I no longer really use).

My thought is to rebrand retquick as something of a tryout for what game comes next. Play a handful of my backlog games for an hour or so each and say some thoughts before saying which one I'll continue as the main game for that period of time.

Old Tag Stuff: One of those things that only sticks to me since I made the decisions but it's always funny for me to look back on my old posts because I was apprehensive as hell toward making my posts visible. The reason my early playthroughs on the My-Tags page are variants of Ret instead of just "The name of the game so people can find this post" is because I felt like a liveblog would just spam the tag to hell-

Something I don't remotely feel bad for doing anymore.

So I avoided getting any sort of spotlight for quite a while on the blog for little reason.

Why Retphienix?: This is just a dumb thought I wanted to share and I'm sure I've said before.

It stands for retro!

Ain't that dumb and also not a real shorthand? lol

I think I have some sort of deer in headlights anxiety towards naming things, I mean do you think I think Full Impressions is a good summation for a video? I don't. But perhaps that's overshadowed by the other inexperiences and anxiety driven decisions that had- doesn't matter.

Retphienix is Retphienix because I sat there in 2015 and thought "Well... what do I name an alt account?"

My main is Redphienix, which yes, is ALSO a terrible name AND is misspelled. But it's that because of sentimental reasons. As a kid I misspelled Redphoenix when making my gamertag (I knew how to spell Phoenix back then as well, I was too excited about xbox live and misspelled it) and it's become something of a sentimental misspelling.

So I wanted to make a mix on that for my game blog, but I had no idea what. In the end I thought "RetroPhienix? I don't know. Retphienix is closer to Redphienix. I'll do that" and so it was done.

And just like how Redphienix is both bad and misspelled but exists because of sentimental reasons- Retphienix has acquired the same 'flavor' in my eye lol.

Aspirations for the blog: I have no immediate ramp up plans or road map or whatever, and in truth I'll be happy if the blog stays just as it is forever- up until tumblr ends- I cry over lost posts- and I reopen it on another platform.

But I do have blurry half-considered daydreams that I'd like to see happen for the blog through some hard work or shifts on my part.

One is something I'm already doing kinda, hence my embarrassing means of bringing it up a lot lately. Videos- I want those. I wanna make some looks back on series people don't talk about that I enjoy, I want to make videos sharing my thoughts on games I beat for the blog (like what full impressions kinda was, but I don't think they'll have a unified name from here on out). Maybe retrospectives, but mostly when I think of making a video tied to retphienix or me in general it's me looking at a game that said something to me, and saying it louder with my own interpretations on it.

You know the kind, videos where they talk about a video game but not the whole thing- just a singular message they really heard loud and clear from it intentionally or not. I dig those and I know I end a lot of games having plenty to say that could be directed into such a format.

We'll see.

And I'm along for the ride on that one as well- currently I'm keeping my eyes on whatever is directly next, which happens to be "I plan on playing Omori, if it clicks as something to talk about I would like to take a shot at that in a video too!"

The other is that I'd like to build a small community. Wouldn't know the first thing on doing that in a modern sense, but just a little online friend group to chat with and play games together. Something that could open up multiplayer and coop experiences being better shared on the blog and would just in general expand my gaming to what it used to be back on the 360 when I had a large group to play with.

Since the 360 era ended I've pretty much closed off- stopped playing competitive games due to lack of interest- and slowed down to playing all games either solo, with randoms (and no mic usually), or with my cousin. It's a rare instance when I play with some good people like @gamesception or another friend of mine, John.

When I diverted from playing competitive games nonstop toward other genres I didn't intend to also cut out all my online gaming buds, it just kinda happened, and I never really put any effort into rectifying that.

So more or less I'd like to one day sit down and work on a discord server, and then buck up and put the leg work in to make some gamin' buds again, but that's such a vague concept anymore.

Sounds all sad and what not but it's more ambivalent, I made decisions that

changed how gaming worked for me after the 360 and this is just where it landed for better and worse- I'd just like to see if I can make it a little better :P

General things I think when I think retphienix: Honestly? I think of how much fun I've had over the years and how thankful I am to have had an outlet that encouraged me to explore more of the medium.

I REALLY love games. I went to college for games, I've written LEAGUES about games, I've played countless games, my childhood was games, my adult life is games- games games games yada yada yada.

So when I think of retphienix I think of how without it I probably wouldn't have explored a lot of the corners of gaming that I have.

I genuinely, and I mean this, might not have sat down and beaten FF7 for myself and would have considered the amount I played as a kid to be enough.

I might not have played Chrono Trigger yet, and I KNOW I wouldn't have played Chrono Cross, and I'm happy as hell to have played both of those. CT was a mind blowing moment for me that showed me just how good an RPG can be, and CC gave me miles to think of in terms of innovating an RPG and how beholden to the narrative a sequel should be (I don't feel CC should have been chrono at all lol).

I DEFINITELY wouldn't have given New Vegas another chance. And I know I'm a sourpuss on NV, I've been that way since I maxed my achievements on the 360 for it, but replaying it really did reveal to me how exceedingly negative I was being.

My memories had become "It's brown and a boring location >:(" and "The factions all suck and it doesn't do anything with the idea of bad factions >:(" and became "It's... a little brown guys, not a big fan of the area" and "They didn't do enough with exploring the gray factions" while adding "Wait. This is pretty damn fun. And 90% of the additions are stellar. And I forgot about Dead Money, my favorite dlc in any game ever with a story that tears at my heart every time I think of it, NV good actually?"

Faxanadu would have remained a cool game I saw on SSFF and not a game I played to the end and fell in love with the aesthetic feel it has!

Also that's a game I cheated like crazy on lol, I would do it again! Save state scumming games meant to be rudely difficult is only fair :P

I probably would have never sat down to play through Windwaker which was such a positive and uplifting experience that I now get the most relaxed and warm feeling in my heart when I see those blue waves.

There's so many experiences I would have left on the table in favor of like... putting more hours into a live service title or something.

Maybe, and no offense to my cousin or anyone else playing it, but maybe I'd be no-lifing World of Warcraft nonstop just stagnating my interest toward the skinner box mechanics of an MMO?

Some offense, actually but lightheartedly lol.

But beyond the entire games I've played for the blog, when I think retphienix I picture all the time making gifs, all those games I played on the PSP for short stints, buying a retron 5 to add to what I could explore and being stoked when they shipped a freebie box of old controllers to go with it, getting angry at the retron for being a Piece Of Shit lol, crying at the end of damn near every game with an emotional story because I'm a big emotional mess of a person who finds investing and crying at a story way too easy thanks to empathy pulls, oh!-

Getting excited whenever I found that I had a "*controversial*" opinion that no one would care about lol. Like the one that comes to mind is that I thoroughly believe that Dragon Ball Z II: Gekishin Freeza!! for the NES is WAY better than the fandom recognized and appreciated sequel/remake Dragon Ball Z: Legend of the Super Saiyan!

How many people do you hear talking about either game, let alone saying the NES game that is roughly half of the SNES remake is the better one :P But I stand by that! The SNES one is a remake of DBZ1 and 2 for the NES but it loses all the charm and some of the fun of the NES ones by being a lackluster SNES game!

It's been 6 years. It's been an untold amount of work to be honest- liveblogging a game, at least for me, hasn't been the easiest thing. It's a lot of thinking out my thoughts (heh), it's a lot of learning tools to make the capturing process possible, it's a lot of experimenting, it's a lot of writing and editing, and, well, sometimes it's just tough.

I mean I went to school for coding, not video editing, not writing, not image processing, not this or that- but this hobby has introduced a lot of things even if only at a VERY base level (I admit fully to using online alternatives to make gifs for instance).

I learned a lot about, well, a lot of things in order to use this blog to learn more about games- and all that work has become part of why I've loved all 6 years of this blog.

6 years of gaming, work, and you all- and it's been worth the investment :) Here's to many more and all of you whether you stumble upon this post or not- literally anyone who's interacted in these 6 years, thank you, and anyone who hasn't I offer you well wishes as well.
