First fic I ever published was a little Dragon Age AU called Somnabulist. I'm not linking to it because I haven't read it in years, and I posted it in 2011. In it I explore the idea of an older Connor Guerrin reflecting on his life, eleven years later.

The last fic I published was a FFXIV fic, No Going Back, a Thancred/WoL smutfic which is me still drawing strings trying to get my Urianger/WoL/Thancred OT3 all on the same page.

A ship I wrote for only once was a giftfic for a Valentines exchange, Six Things, an Isabela/Bethany smutfic based on the preferences of the secret recipient. It was my first crack at femslash, one of my earliest goes at smut in general, posted in 2012, and I haven't read it in years. IDK how it holds up.

I really should consider taking some of these older ones down, LOL.

While I technically have more works in FFXIV, they're all loosely connected one shots, so the fandom I have probably written the most for is Dragon Age. My favorite fic out of that is still A Queen's Regrets, which is the Life and Times of a post-Blight Queen Cousland who makes a lot of very dodgy choices, and the fallout that has on Anders' life in DA2, as well as her own.

A work I wish more people read is literally anything I've written for FFXIV, but as I'm still new-ish in the fandom, I understand it being my least popular. If I had to pick one from it, though, it would be Favors, where Minfilia asks my WoL to check in on a grieving Urianger.

My FFXIV fic is also what I've agonized over the most, particularly Remember. I'm always worried I am going to get these voices wrong, and I find the Ancients particularly intimidating.

The one that sprang fully formed in my mind was A Queen's Regrets. I had the concept in my head and pounded it out inside of a week, though I did revise it last year to make it align with my other DA works.

A work I'm quite proud of is A Secret of Bees, a Sif/Loki fic. I'm not sure exactly why, as looking back I'm not sure I'm entirely happy with the story, but the writing style I used is a white whale I've chased ever since.

I'm not going to tag anyone, but I'd love to see what anyone else has done.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Whilst strictly a HEA merchant overall, I did make myself miserable writing Friend Like Me, sobbed all the way through it knowing I couldn't fix the ending without stomping all over the heart of the fic itself. Will always be grateful to @dysonrules for her excellent sequel that achieved what I could not *throws myself sobbing at her feet*

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Tragically yes, not even on my oldest, more gloriously clichéd and tropified cheese either ;P but simply because the reader objected so strongly to the pairing that they felt obliged to hate on every other aspect of the fic as well. This new generation of fans choosing hate over 'don't like, don't read' never ceases to astound and sadden me.

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I do indeed lol every kind from shameless ridiculous cheese to (hopefully) smutastically hot. I have a real tendency *coughproblemcough* with feeling like I have to write everything I'm seeing in my head, so my stuff tends towards being overly wordy, but hopefully conveys the filth that my brain likes to play me on loop at times ;)

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Several times actually, less in recent years but back before the original purge and AO3 I tended to have my Drarry smut ripped off quite regularly, the same fic in particular, Delicious (an actually RIDICULOUS smutfic) got stolen something like 4 or 5 times but fortunately someone always tipped me off, as people continue to do when my stuff ends up on Wattpad now also. Should it come up, and anyone sees any of my stuff about - unless it's a translation - I categorically have not given permission for my stuff to be posted elsewhere, if you know my stuff and see it anywhere but my ff/net acc or AO3 please let me know <3

Yes, back in the day @dreambastion and I co-wrote a few Drarry fics, though I'm not sure many of them ever saw the light of day ;) as we mostly came up with ideas from a Drarry RP journal we had during that time.

What’s your all-time favourite ship?

Gah. Whilst I frequently throw the term OTP around, I don't think I'll ever only have one OTP. I believe in the supremacy of some ships, and they have carved places in my heart that can never be erased whether I've stopped writing or even reading them: Drarry ftw, sorry Ginny but I'll never believe that epilogue, whether the fic is canon-compliant or not, I’ll always believe Harry/Draco is the endgame. ArthurEames is likely the closest I have to a true OTP, I’m sorry but that shit is canon and if Chris Nolan ever tries to convince me otherwise I will sit him down and point out all the ways he is WRONG. AE is the pairing that sparked my non-functional (nonfictional for that matter) brain back into being after a glitch with my hormones and a run-in with a bully masquerading as a beta scared me off of writing for a few years and I’ll always be grateful to it for that. I’ve dabbled in reading several MCU based pairings (Stony, Stucky, Clint/Coulson) but Thorki kicked the door down in late 2018 and refuses to be unseated as my current burning obsession with a ship, and for all the abuse I see the pairing take (seriously what is WRONG with the new-gen of fandom? Y’all would not have survived LJ) it’s where my brain goes to for comfort during these past few difficult years, and I adore it for that alone, if not for the bunnies currently chewing my brain to bits.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

*horror shudder of guilt and shame* Humbled & Struck. I have these wonderful intentions to do right by Struck every once in a while and then I open the notes and see just how very much of the fic there was still left to write and know I don’t have the wherewithal to re-enter a pairing I no longer have any verve whatsoever to write for. Someday I’ll post a neatened up synopsis so those who liked it can read what should have happened and have an ending, but Humbled is a casualty of both my original computer going BOOM and having to be wiped but also coincided with my brain blip, when my hormones basically shoved everything that made me creative into a box and nailed it shut and left me with a crappy knock off of the baby blues for not quite a year. I lost the verve to write but I also lost all the mental notes I had along with the physical one and genuinely can’t remember what was supposed to happen at the end of Humbled beyond them getting together. These fics are the reason I never post anything WIP now, if I’m posting it, it means it’s complete.

What are your writing strengths?

Gah, talk about a question designed to make everyone squirm. Honestly? Not sure lol. I remember a professor at Uni telling me I had a way of taking the narrative in a chokehold and never letting go, and I remember laughing with him, but as much as I recall him saying it as a positive, looking back I wish I’d asked him more about what he meant, cos it sounds like a negative too, sort of lol.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Well, I miss the days of mouseover on LJ for a start, without it I tend towards avoiding personally, but I think if you can do it, and do it well, then why not?

What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?

I’m not sure Xfiles counts because I only ever shared it in yahoo group chats lol so my first posted fics were LotR.

What’s your favourite fic you’ve ever written?

Pet. Hands down my favourite, it’s like I had nothing to do with writing it, I vaguely remember being caught up in feel during it, and plotting out what would happen each month, and torturing myself with diff songs from my playlist to get my Arthur POV feels screwed to the sticking place lol but with enough time in between I can actually read/listen to it myself and still be surprised by some places in the story, I still squee when Arthur runs into drunk!Eames in the supermarket, and I NEVER squee over my own stuff otherwise lol I’m truly proud of it if only because it makes me so happy. I know Scattered is vastly behind on updates, and Thorki is hugely to blame for that, but I will NEVER abandon that ‘verse. I’ll be 60 and still thinking of new ways for my boys to be happy, and being happy in turn at just the thought of them <3

Hi it's that Donald Blake au anon, and I agree I don't like Donald in general it's weird and sometimes in the comics he has a stick that he's always holding onto then he bangs it and somehow becomes Thor, idk. But the au is something that really interested me cuz it has so much potential, like is Thor an Avenger in this au, does he have to wait til Loki is not looking to go and save the world? Or is he not worthy yet and somehow choosing to reveal himself to Loki the real way to be worthy?

Yeah, I’m kind of glad the writers and directors decided to leave out the whole “mild-mannered human alias” from the Thor franchise. Really, so many superheroes already have alter egos—Peter Parker is Spider-Man, Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool, literally every single one of the OG Avengers except Thor has another name—that for once it’s nice to just have Thor be Thor.

But as far as that brilliant idea you pitched, in the first couple drafts of my answer, I actually started to rewrite Thor (2011) to make your idea fit with canon. However, after getting stuck a couple times, I started thinking it might work better away from canon (specifically Earth 616), more like a true alternate universe, no Avengers or Thanos or anything. Or, to make things simpler, it could just be a Porn With Feelings deal where the story is driven by characters and drama (and, of course, porn).

For the PWP approach, Thor masquerades as an MD on Earth because he genuinely likes to help people and having a human form helps him escape detection, or possibly keep his powerful electromagnetic radiation field from harming humans. In any case, Loki is unaware of his brothers super-secret human identity.

Somehow Loki bites off more than he can chew or pisses off the wrong supervillain—it’s practically his hobby, isn’t it?—and ends up getting his ass beaten and thrown to Earth. Miraculously, Thor (as Don Blake) is there to help him, and Thor can’t risk getting his cover blown, so he just plays along while Loki regains use of his limbs and/or powers (a perfect opportunity for some hurt/comfort whump sickfic type tags). Thor brings Loki to his apartment until he can fully recover, and in that time, Loki finds himself bonding with this disabled and good-natured human man who reminds him so much of his brother… and thus begins the forbidden romance and angst-ridden relationship drama.

...okay, so the PWP setup actually has a lot more plot than your average smutfic. (But just think of all the opportunities for medical kink in this one. Like Loki pretending he feels hot and achy and insisting that Blake give him a thorough, private exam… on the kitchen table… with stethoscopes and tongue depressors and lots of poking and prodding and pelvic exams. Anyone? No? Just me?)

The actual canon setup is the one I tried (unsuccessfully) to write out, but here’s a bullet list of the basic plot (get comfortable, this gets kind of long):

After defeating the frost giants in Norway in 900-something, Odin secretly makes a deal with Laufey to raise Loki as his own son, then marry him off to Thor so they can establish everlasting peace with Jötunheim (just like Odin and Frigga did to stop the Æsir-Vanir war). Thor and Loki’s children will be heirs to both royal houses. Upon Thor’s ascension to the throne, Odin will then return the Casket of Ancient Winters to its rightful place, and Jötunheim will flourish again with Asgard as its protector/ally

Loki is a lot more autonomous and independent than his original cinematic depiction, traveling the realms to learn seiðr and be an ambassador (and cause mischief, naturally, but nothing that can’t be fixed or used to his advantage). He’s always held a secret torch for his brother but knows there’s little/no hope of it ever being reciprocated, thus he stays away from Asgard as much as possible

Thor loves and misses his brother (perhaps too much). Their parents would surely disapprove of their relationship, gods or not, and besides, Loki is too much of a free spirit, a wanderer, content with his own company. Asking anything more of him (like a grounded, committed relationship) is something Thor could never do

Loki returns to Asgard on the eve of Thor’s coronation with gifts and smiles, and Thor embraces him with deep affection. They almost confess their feelings to one another, but shy away at the last moment (damn!)

Meanwhile, Malekith the Accursed (comics version Malekith, who is a lot sexier and generally more interesting/diabolical than his MCU counterpart) doesn’t like that Laufey is planning to make peace with Asgard and sever his alliance with Svartalfheim, and somehow breaks into the Vault on Thor’s coronation day just so he can frame Laufey and sour the arrangement with Odin

Odin decides not to act, sure that something else must be going on. Loki decides to take the intellectual route and do some investigating while Thor and his warrior companions sneak into Jötunheim to kick some ass

Thor accuses Laufey of wrongdoing, just as Malekith wanted, and almost incites a war with the frost giants. Odin banishes him to earth to live as a disabled human man until he can learn some humility

After much screaming at the sky and manly weeping, Thor finally accepts his fate and his new human identity

Enough time passes (months? A year?) that Thor eventually learns to be humble and considerate, helping other humans physically and emotionally in the medical field (I imagine him becoming an orderly at a local hospital since being a doctor requires years of education and money. Also, being thrown to Earth without a penny to his name will help Thor work through some of his entitlement and privilege issues. I headcanon he was aided by some good-hearted humans who were able to find employment for him and a place to stay, help him get on his feet, basically)

With Thor out of the way and the royal family torn apart, Malekith begins preparing for his attack on Asgard

Loki doesn’t know that Thor is trapped in a human form, only that he was banished and all contact forbidden. Loki is suspicious of the frost giants and goes to Jötunheim alone, where Laufey reveals everything to him—including Loki’s betrothal to Thor

Loki is stunned at first, unable to believe that the thing he’s wanted most was always meant to be his, and he hurriedly leaves Jötunheim

He tries to sneak to Midgard without using the Bifrost, but Malekith catches him en route and they fight. He throws a binding spell on Loki to render him powerless and then beats the living daylights out of him

Loki crash lands on Earth not far from where his brother was banished (he had been following the last known path from Asgard to Midgard), and is rendered temporarily powerless and amnesiac, not remembering anything about his fight with Malekith, Thor’s banishment, or why he was on his way to Midgard

Loki wakes up in a hospital bed with a kind human man looking after him. After an unsuccessful escape attempt, he settles in and finds himself comforted by Donald Blake’s presence. It’s… soothing, somehow familiar…(maybe it’s the drugs talking)

Thor instantly recognizes his brother but he cannot reveal himself, either because he’ll look insane/lose his job or maybe Odin made it so he’s unable to even speak the name “Thor” until he’s worthy again. In any case, Thor decides it won’t hurt to beat Loki at his own game just this once (Loki has played this prank on him more times than Thor can count). He ends up taking Loki back home with him once he’s discharged from the hospital

As his memories and powers slowly return, Loki is surprised that Blake listens to and believes everything he claims to be, and soon grows to trust and even like the man. He’s never really had a true friend before… except for his brother, Thor, of course. Blake reminds him so much of Thor…

While things gradually heat up between Loki and Blake-Thor, Malekith disguises himself as Loki (just as he did in the War of the Realms comic arc) and returns to Asgard. Odin and Frigga learn that Loki had indeed traveled to Jötunheim and confront their “son” about what he might have learned there

Not knowing it’s actually Malekith they are speaking to, they reveal the truth about Loki’s parentage and upbringing, and the reasons for his betrothal. Malekith is shocked, then amused at his good fortune. He decides to use this information to his own advantage

Malekith plots to bring Thor back to Asgard and insist that they be married at once. Thor will be crowned king, and when Thor finishes swearing his oaths, Malekith will steal Gungnir and kill Thor with it (and the entire royal family of Asgard). He will then steal the Casket of Ancient Winters, return to Jötunheim, kill Laufey and all the rest of his clan, and then head to Midgard to finish off the last of that bloodline: Loki. Then, with the power of Gungnir, Mjölnir, and the Casket of Ancient Winters, nothing will be able to stop him from bringing war and chaos to the Nine Realms

My brain is smoking and on its last cylinder right now, and I know this post is already decades long, so I’m gonna cheat and skip the whole part where Thor and Loki somehow learn about Malekith’s plot (maybe the Warriors Four come to Earth to warn them), and Thor becomes worthy again, revealing himself to a stunned Loki, and they all go flying back to Asgard, beat Malekith in an epic battle, and save the day

Once the dust has cleared, Thor is crowned king to an audience of Æsir and Jötnar, followed immediately by his and Loki’s wedding. Everyone cheers, Volstagg weeps and uses Fandral as a handkerchief, and Malekith gets a tiny slice of the wedding cake down in the dungeons

6 - Ugh, that’s a tough one.  My kneejerk answer is Body Double.  I’m grateful to it as an entity because it was my first “big one” and I still get strangers messaging me to say they learned so much from it, but...my tastes have moved on, I guess, and the whole subject matter of that story isn’t really anything I would personally read anymore.  I think at the time I had an intense curiosity about the whole Dom/sub thing and was in the process of teaching myself all I could learn about it, and sort of purging that fascination through writing it.  That acquired knowledge led to Chemical once I’d finetuned it.  And I’m really not into Real Person Fiction, which BD is - it was a request, otherwise I probably would never have written it (at least not about an actual person).

11 - Heh, this one still irritates the motherloving shit out of me.  Rewind back to Chemical again.  That chapter close to the beginning, when Tom was “initiating” Anja?  The “all the holes” thing?  Somebody got all up in my face about the lack of specifically mentioned protection, like it’s my job to make sure people know they’re supposed to use condoms.  I had just assumed that if someone was reading my VERY R-rated fic, they knew that protection was a prerequisite?  But naw, it’s up to me, the writer, to stop the flow of the scene to spell out my make-believe characters rolling one on three different times in one fucksession so that nobody accidentally comes to the misleading conclusion that anal-to-vaginal sex isn’t gonna end in tears without it.  Not only did this reader point it out, they heavily implied that it was a fatal mistake on my part that needed correction and that the chapter was a load of unbelievable shit without it.  Um...no?  Maybe I just, like most writers, felt like trusting in the common sense of my supposedly adult readers by leaving those particular details unspoken and implied was standard procedure in smutfic?

I ended up “fixing” it the next day, but it left a bad taste in my mouth and I decided I wasn’t going to do it ever again.  I do things the way I do them, and in the end it’s all fiction...unclench your buttcheeks and just enjoy it.

20 - Only all of them lol (my longtime readers know the story on this and they live in fear of me going back and switching all the happy endings to the ones I really wanted).  Such as...King was gonna die young, Chem!Tom was supposed to change into a wolf and head into the hills, BD!Tom and Anna ended up divorced, Loki was going to go into exile with the Dragon Queen...etc.  I have an alternate ending for literally every fic I’ve written.  DO NOT TEMPT ME ;)

Does anyone else have trouble separating the actor from the character?

I feel like this is kind of embarrassing to admit and hard to explain without offending someone. For those of you that write fanfictions of media with actual actors such as movies and tv shows especially anything that is dark, tortuous, traumatic, and sexually explicit, does it almost feel like you are writing RPF?

For a long time, I avoided any news regarding celebrities because I felt like knowing even a little about them would ruin my enjoyment of movies and shows as well as my ability to write fanfiction. I almost want to ignore that they are people as strange as it sounds. That they just sort of exist as larger than life entities like Greek Gods, except they are not. They are rich and beautiful but are vulnerable to disease, grow old, and die just like the rest of us mortals.

Anyways, the impetus for this came when I googled Natalie Portman because Jane Foster is a character I'm focusing on one of my WIPs. I thought I might try to do one of those cover images I see on tumblr because there has been a lot of talk about using social media to promote stuff lately on this sub, but instead I fell into a rabbit hole of celeb trivia and found this CNN article from two years ago.

She talks about being 12 when her first movie comes out and the unwanted attention she got that was downright scary. Her first fan mail was a detailed rape fantasy involving her and a local radio station set a countdown to her 18th birthday, which was very creepy. This happened not just to her, but the Olsen twins, Britney Spears.

Another example is that I'm a huge Harry Potter fan and have never been able to separate Emma Watson from Hermione Granger cause they're very similar. Both are intelligent, determined women, and Watson is more of an activist these days than an actress, which is very Hermione. It also reminded me of all the fanfiction I've come across with Harry and Co as underage on FF.net prior to Ao3 like Snape/Hermione or Snape/Harry(I'm old). And tbh I never thought much about it anyways because it was fiction. Until I saw the link I posted and subsequently found the reddit discussion thread related to it, and now I feel weird.

Maybe I'm overthinking this. I'm just writing a story. I have a hard time writing smut sometimes because I feel like I'm needlessly sexualizing a character that has a real human face attached to it. I also feel guilty reading smut sometimes too like I'm a voyeur. It's just that a lot of fics will even have covers showing the actors. I've seen tumblrs with fancasts. And sometimes I come up with an OC and because of my lack of imagination I would be like hmmm...long blonde hair, tall, female, scowls a lot, looks kinda like Brie Larson. Then I'll just imagine Brie Larson as the character. Is this weird? Am I the only one that does this? I feel silly even writing this out because I can't even articulate what it is that is bothering me. Maybe I feel guilty for fantasizing Chris Hemsworth as Thor boinking Tom Hiddleston's Loki when I read Thorki stuff. Maybe I'm scared that these real people would somehow find my smutfic on the internet and feel unsafe. Maybe I should try to move into anime or video games. I've played over 1000 hours of animal crossing at this point...Help me out here, I don't know if I can explain this to my psychiatrist without coming off more unhinged than usual.
