11 Thoughts I Had While Reading Loki Issue 3
Contains spoilers for the first three issues (but mostly the third issue) of the Loki miniseries. Also likely contains spoilers for many of the comics starring or featuring Loki I normally talk about (including King Thor, Loki: Agent of Asgard, Defenders: Beyond, Young Avengers). Also alternating pronouns for Loki throughout.
So in the "And that's what you missed on Glee" (by which I mean the recap/prologue), they explicitly call Loki the God of Stories, which apparently I missed or forgot about in Chapter Two (or they didn't call him that, but I think they did). So, post-Agent of Asgard, but as yet unclear (to me) if post-Defenders: Beyond or mid-Defenders: Beyond or what.
"But we know what you're probably wondering. What has any of this got to do with Loki?" WHOLE-ASS MOOD. That's what I'm constantly thinking!
Can I just say how much I love whenever Loki hangs out with their Young Avengers friends post-Young Avengers? The YA aren't exactly warm towards them anymore, but they're also not outright hostile usually, so they're almost real friends. It's sweet. Loki deserves to have more than just Verity and Thor in their life. (And they don't even have Verity in this comic, which I'm upset about.)
Loki's look in this issue is just peak genderfluid Loki for me. The fingerless gloves, the coat, the black nail polish, the slightly less angular but not quite smoothed over facial features, the slightly longer and wavier than usual but not shoulder-length hair with the bang flipped over one horn. The make-up.

(I did not take this picture for this post. I took this picture because I love the way they look in this panel and needed to save it to look at later.) And there was something about his chest on the cover that I couldn't quite put my finger on, but I just put on my binder and looked at myself in the mirror and something about how my chest looks in the binder made me go 'Is Loki wearing a binder?' (This is just my personal headcanon based on the similarities in appearance from my current experience, I don't necessarily think the artist intended to draw him while hinting at a binder, and I'm not even sure how you would do that without showing all or part of the binder itself. Practically, it could just be the effect of his armor. But I'm going with it, even though Loki can shapeshift.)
KO-MIR PULLING A LOKI IN KING THOR CHILLING (no pun intended) IN A SUN
Not me stretching the allegory of Ko-mir to its breaking point trying to make it relevant to Loki.
Ultimately, I don't care how much of a lie the story of how Loki got the piece of Naglfar back is. I love watching Loki at peak power, even if it's not true. I mean, he achieved it somehow, who's to say he didn't do it this way?
The way Loki has nail polish on his cuticles. Something about how his hand isn't steady and he's not so much a perfectionist that he won't go back over the edges with rubbing alcohol afterwards.
Should...should I know who Bullseye is? The only Bullseye I know is a gangly toy horse. This guy looks like someone tried to make a Captain America toy but wanted to avoid a lawsuit.
"Corporate wants you to find the differences between these two pictures" meme, but it's Muck Mulligan making mob bosses' eyes bleed with the Good News of Naglfar, and an Early Modern painting of missionaries bringing typhoid and gunpowder--I mean, Christianity, to the far corners of the world.
So final thoughts re:my post before issue three came out: I wrote an entire note about when I thought this series takes place in Loki's comic arc, and in explaining why I thought it occurred then I ended up talking myself out of it. So at this point I actually think this is after DB, like entirely after DB. He seems enough like his end of AoA (post-ego death) self that I think her memories have been restored to her. The only thing is that Thor isn't dead, like he is for this iteration of Loki, which is established right at the beginning of DB (the timeline for that comic is really confusing), and implied that Loki had a hand in it (again). I think Loki's memories have been restored post-DB, and that enough time has passed since then that Thor's come back (as he tends to do). Probably other comics have established how/why he died in that part of the timeline and then how he came back, and then at some point after those events I think is when this miniseries takes place. Loki isn't quite their old self again, but is sorting through their memories and current personhood and trying to reconcile the two, as well as reclaiming her vocation to save the cosmos (from the end of DB) and figuring out what that means. And making up for past and current mistakes in the form of stopping the pieces of Naglfar from wreaking havoc on the universe. Very much looking forward to what issue four and beyond has in store for him; I think we might finally be back on track for what Al Ewing had envisioned for this character and I'm appreciating that a lot.
What did you all think of this issue? When do you think it takes place, or do you think it's its own timeline that is just cherrypicking interesting story beats from comic Lokis past?

YES YES !! I feel like a lot of people (cough MCU) view President Loki as “oh noo Loki is so evil he’s going to take over the United States!!”… when in reality he only did it as a ploy to give back to someone he wronged… and also to poke fun at US politics… and also probably bc he was bored lol
i kind of see where all of you are coming from with the president loki thirst in terms of visual hotness but he genuinely baffles me. isn't mcu loki's entire thing about believing that freedom is a lie? (is that the joke, is this supposed to be silly??) and why would he settle for the free cowboy capitalism states of disunion, doesn't he want the world
someone explain your blorbo please he's making me nauseous with confusion
#ur right abt the art style being horrendous tho 😭😭😭#it’s a pretty good miniseries besides that imo#vote loki#president loki

hi!!
can i request poly!bat boys x plus sized reader?
if you're comfortable writing about children, could you write a lil one shot about them just taking care of their children throughout a busy and chaotic day and then the 4 of them head to bed for the night and reminisce on their days before children?
(like they love their children to death and wouldn't trade them for the world, but they still acknowledge that their kids are WORK [but judging by the parents, they're not surprised 😭] and not for the weak)
Adventures in Parenting (miniseries)
1. Chaos and All
Pairing(s): Poly! Bat Boys x Plus Size! Reader
Word Count: 1.9K
Warning(s): None really. This is mostly fluff and parenting chaos.
Author’s Note: The more I wrote this one-shot, the more I want to turn this into a small little series. So, if anyone else has requests for this family set up send them in! I didn’t do the multiple mates with this Polyship, I hope that’s okay. I also used my youngest nephew as inspiration for the twins. He is a ball of chaos and I fully believe he is the mortal embodiment of Loki. I love him. Some of these events also may or may not be based on actual incidents that happened within my own household. Don’t worry, no one was injured, and consequences were appropriately implemented. Raising children is not for the weak!
ACOTAR Masterlist Divider by @tsunami-of-tears
“JUST WAIT UNTIL YOUR FATHER GETS HOME!” The echo of your roar reverberated along the stone halls of the House of Wind. It was quickly followed by two distinct sets of giggles. Cassian and Azriel, having returned early from Wind Haven, overheard the slew of curses flowing from your lips.
Soon, two boys rounded the corner and immediately squealed in excitement upon seeing Cassian. The large Illyrian bent down to his knees as the pair of 6-year-olds raced towards him. Effortlessly, he picked them both up, blowing a raspberry against each of their cheeks. The children were absolutely delighted. That was until you came around the corner following them. Your expression was far from amusing. With a hand on your rounded belly, you came to a stop before the males and your shared children.
“Warren, are you tormenting your poor mama?” Cassian asked.
“No Papa.”
“Yes.”
The twins spoke simultaneously. Azriel had to suppress his laugh. Your eyes burned with ire.
“Mama’s being mean!” Warren stated, pointing his little index finger at you. You raised your eyebrow at his boldness.
“Oh, I’m being mean now?” You crossed your arms, your son merely copying your stance. “Do you want to tell Dada and Papa what you did? Or should I?” The two children remained silent.
“Alright then, you had your chance,” You huffed. “Mama is being mean because she had to put out the fire you set in the bathroom!” The two boys shrank within Cassian’s arms.
“They did what now?” Azriel’s expression hardened.
“You heard right. They thought it was okay to play with the candle I had burning in the bathroom,” You explained, making your way over to the Shandowsinger, “A candle that was only lit because Ryder complained about Warren stinking up the toilet!” The twins giggled to themselves. You recognized the mirthful gleam in Cassian's eyes as he tried to maintain a serious expression. It was clear that you were at your wits end. And the stress wasn’t good for the baby in your belly, which was due within the month. Azriel moved to stand behind you, and once in place he wrapped his arms around you and underneath your belly. With the slightest of movements, he supported the weight for you. He could feel the relief wash over you. From over your shoulder, he leveled a stern glare at the boys.
“Well Mama,” Cassian started, “What’s on your mind for a fitting consequence?”
“For these two I honestly don’t know any more,” You tried to keep the hormone fueled frustration tears at bay. “A week with no dessert seems too light, but a literal grounding- a week of no flying-seems cruel. I leave it to you males. They don’t listen to me anyway.”
“I’ll be the first to agree,” Azriel’s words were careful. “They need to understand how dangerous playing with fire can be. One of you could have been seriously hurt.” You placed your hands over Azriel’s in comfort.
“I think the first thing that needs to be done is an apology,” Cassian finally set the twins back down. “Boys, apologize to your Mother.” His tone was stern and unyielding. The voice of a General. That tone always stirred something in you. Azriel’s nose brushed along the side of your neck, and you felt his lips curve up in a smile. Damn your hormones.
“Sorry Mama,” their tiny voices murmured in unison. Cassian shooed them away and back to the playroom. He quickly kissed your lips before following them. You were at a disadvantage when it came to the wild energy of your twins. Rhysand and Azriel could only chuckle to themselves half the time, filling you in on stories of Cassian’s own behaviors growing up. Unfortunately, the two boys had begun to act out ever since your eldest son went to train with the Darkbringers. You didn’t want him to be exposed to the cruelty of Hewn City, but Rhysand insisted upon some type of military training. And since he was your only child born without wings the elite unit of the Court of Nightmares was his best option.
“We’ll take care of the kids,” Azriel whispered against your neck. “Why don’t you get some rest?” You nodded, rubbing along his hands still holding up your belly. He carefully let go, and you groaned at having to support the weight on your own again.
He followed you to your bedroom and helped you settle into what surely had to be the largest bed in existence. After tucking you in underneath one of the deep mahogany throw blankets, he quietly left the room. You could faintly hear your children’s laughter as they played with their father, the joyful noise allowing you to drift off into a peaceful nap.
Hours later you had awoken to the sound of the bedroom door opening. You reached to turn on the faelight near the bed and turned to face the entrance to the room. Rhysand stood near the door, looking sheepish at having woken you. You smiled at seeing your third lover.
“How did doling out the punishment go?” Slowly you turned from your left side onto your back. Rhysand continued to make his way across the room, removing his shirt as he approached the bed.
“No dessert for the week, per Mama’s orders,” He supplied. “And all their toys are being gathered up by Cass and Az as we speak. Well, they get to keep their favorite stuffed toy for sleeping.”
“All of the toys!” You sat up straight. “Rhys are you trying to drive me insane? What are they going to do all day?” The door to the bedroom squeaked on its hinges, the light from the hall revealing Cassian.
“They’ll be in Wind Haven,” Cassian stated as he strode into the bedroom. “With me.”
“They’re too young to start training!” You shouted, which seemed to displease the babe inside you as it kicked against what you could only assume was your kidney. Your hand went directly to the spot and your eyes fluttered closed at the discomfort. Rhysand moved to sit behind you.
“They will not be training,” Rhysand reassured, setting a leg on either side of you before encouraging you to lean back against his chest.
“They will be helping the wounded males with some of their daily tasks,” Cassian finished. “At least tasks that they are capable of doing.” You worried at your bottom lip. It would be a valuable experience for them to have those interactions. However, most of the wounded received said injuries during a fight of some kind. You hoped the twins wouldn’t get the wrong ideas and start to romanticize war and violence. Mother above that was the last thing you needed!
“If it makes you feel better, they will be assisting the shopkeepers and not the battle heroes' ' Rhys said, kneading the muscle around your right hip.
“Additionally, for each task they help with they earn a toy back,” Cassian added. He lounged across the foot of the bed.
“That all sounds more than fair,” You took a sharp inhale as Rhysand’s knuckle rubbed against a particularly painful spot. The pressure against the knot hurt, but also relieved the growing ache. Your muscles had become so tight from carrying the extra weight of your unborn child. You turned your head back to face him and kissed his cheek.
This little one in your womb would place you with five children. Five. You had agreed to a total of three pregnancies. One for each of the males you loved so fiercely. But Cassian just had to sire twins. And then Rhysand insisted on performing the Great Right at the most recent Calanmai. Making this fourth pregnancy completely unexpected. Especially since you also laid with Cassian and Azriel that night. You also had no clue which of the three males was the biological father. But that didn’t really matter in the long run. While each male had their biological offspring, they raised all the children as if they were their own blood. A sudden realization hit you like the cold winter winds in Illyria.
“What about after?” You asked. “I love my children, but we are outnumbered.”
“What if Al-” Rhysand started.
“No, don't send for Aldrin, he’s 15 and just now settling into figuring out what type of person he wants to become. I won’t place the weight of being a caregiver on him. I need one of you here, especially when the baby is born.”
“I will stay,” Azriel offered entering the space as well. He was carrying your current youngest, Aria, in his arms.
“Did she have another nightmare?” You reached your arms out to her, but Azriel didn’t lower her down to you. Instead, he sat in the rocking chair with Aria still in his arms. Her wings were tucked in tight against her back. Her head rested against Azriel’s shoulder; her large green eyes open yet still looking between each of her parents. She was always so quiet.
“No, she saw me and just wanted to be held for a while,” He pushed the rocking chair back and forth using the balls of his bare feet.
“Like father like daughter,” You chuckled. The room settled into a comfortable silence. Cassian at your feet, rubbing them and your swollen ankles. Rhysand at your back, continue his own massage of your lower back. You were in your own personal heaven as you watched Aria from the spot on the bed. Watched as her eyelids drooped before fully closing. Slowly Azriel stood from his seat and carried the 2-year-old to bed. When he returned, Cassian was now sprawled on your right side, Rhysand still sitting behind you.
“It feels like it's been years since we’ve all had a quiet moment like this,” You broke the silence, closing your eyes and leaning onto the male behind you.
“True, so why did you go and ruin it,” Cassian said in jest. However, he quickly yowled in pain from Azriel hitting his arm.
“We certainly have a rowdy bunch of younglings to contend with,” Rhysand hummed, his fingers tracing up and down your arms.
“As I said before,” Azriel began his own nightly routine of readying for bed, “I will stay with you when the baby arrives.”
“What about-”
“If there is need of a spy, we have others that can complete whatever mission I need,” Rhysand advised. “He will be here to assist when either Cassian or I am busy.” You were so grateful for these males.
“And on the bright side, soon they won’t be as…energetic,” Cassian’s devilish smile spread across his face, “And we can go back to more grown-up activities.” You couldn’t hold back the laugh. The other two males just rolled their eyes.
"Need I remind you three, that our grown-up activities are exactly what created those lovely little terrors we call our children,” You gave Cassian a pointed stare.
“While that wasn’t what I was referring to I’m certain we can always accommodate our female’s more carnal desires,” He tried to defend himself. You scoffed, doing your best to hide the flush that bloomed across your cheeks.
“I agree with Cassian,” Rhys started. “While I miss the days before children, those days will return faster than we can fathom. And I am completely content in being present for what we have now. Chaos and all.”

ngl this new era of colorful, over-the-top, maximalist, dumb-as-rocks-comics-bullshit marvel movies has won me back over a TINY bit just on the grounds of how hard they are to be cynical about in the moment.
genuinely enjoyed The Marvels when i went in expecting to derisively laugh at and maybe switch it off halfway through (Kamala Khan is such a delight). Quantumania is more fun than it has any right to be. the Loki miniseries was unironically pretty solid. like, they're not producing high art or anything here but they've started to capture the sort of really fun and unhinged energy that i wish the mcu had taken on years ago, like they've finally shaken off the weird faux-mature self-consciousness about being superhero movies and started embracing the batshit insane logic of the medium. idk. i'm not gonna give them my bread money but i'm glad the circus is at least remembering what fun is supposed to be like again

Wild seeing a version of mcu Wanda on tva 5 that’s more accurately colored to 616 Wanda current standards than she was in iron man or on the cover of Deadpool kills one last time
Yeah. For anyone who's curious, TVA is a five-issue miniseries about the Time Variance Authority, and it is heavily, heavily, based on the Loki television show. I'm not sure if it's meant to be actually canon to the M C U, but if it is, then it's directly bridging the cinematic universe to comics continuity, which I don't love. As you can probably imagine, I had a lot of problems with the Loki show and I was not originally planning to read this series. Apparently, the plot has something to do with a phenomenon called "the Madness," and the cover for the fifth and final issue, which was included in the April solicits, shows a version of M C U Wanda, so I'm guessing that these things are related, and that Wanda, if she's not the villain, is clearly going to be important to the plot. And again, if this directly canon to the M C U, then it might be the first official continuation of what happened to Olsen's character in Multiverse of Madness.
On the cover art, Wanda's skin tone appears to be more or less on-model for her updated comic design, which is really interesting. I'm not sure how to feel about it. M C U Wanda is a fundamentally bad adaptation of the character, and retroactively imagining her as a Romani woman of color makes me uncomfortable, especially if it involves any version of Olsen's likeness. On the other hand, allowing for any version of Wanda in a comic book to be white is also a bad look at this point-- and yes, that absolutely includes Iron Man #4-- so I think it's kind of a no-win situation. Honestly, I wish they'd just left her out of it.

A Court of Mischief and Purpose, Chapter Seventeen (Loki x fem! Reader Hiddlesverse Crossover Miniseries)

Series Summary: Based on Sarah J Mass's A Court of Thorns and Roses series with the Tom Hiddleston characters. You are a woman of 1880's in Aldwinter in Essex, England, dying of tuberculosis. Never to be married to the local Lusty Vicar. When Loki appears to you and offers to heal you...if you spend a week of every month with him
Chapter Summary: You have returned to Aldwinter. And begin to set plans for your revenge on Will.
Word Count: 6K
Warnings: Some spicy stuff but no actual smut (please forgive me, the chapters in this fic are long enough), mentions of cheating and portraying Will's cheating as bad I am very blatantly against the Will/Cora pairing in The Essex Serpent and it shows so if you like either character or the pairing, you have been warned. Mentions of sex and religion and violence and abandonment. Supporting Women's Wrongs.
A/N: Thanks to @muddyorbsblr for the brilliant ideas about how Reader could get her long due revenge and the great suggestions!
Also,
Happy New Years Eve! Instead of going to clubs and drinking and partying or being invited to a party, I'm spending it editing fanfiction. So this is to all of you out there who too feel a little lonely like me and like you should be out there doing partying and "normal" things...you aren't the only one, and I'm sending you a hug.
I hope you enjoy the start of the "next" season of Court after that cliffhanger! Leave a comment or reblog or send me an ask or dm if you especially liked it! Happy 2024!

You could still recall your wedding with Loki.
It was night. The moons shone above. Stars sprinkled across the sky as people laughed and went out to restaurants and taverns. They weren’t the ones about to find a cauldron. They could go on in ignorance and always in safety.
But your own pulse was picking up as you held Loki’s hand. Excitement and nervousness.
You both walked into a temple, a building with a garland of roses over the door. For even gods still needed worshippers. Inside, there were two priests going about. An old man and a younger man in fine golden robes swept the floors. The younger one turned and gasped, tugging the sleeve of his sage.
They recognized Loki and both bowed.
“Ah, great prince and god of mischief, what brings you here?” the older one asked.
“I want you to marry us!” Loki announced.
Their jaws dropped, and the brown eyes of the old man grew large.
“Without the…the consent of the AllFather?” the older priest asked.
“No- I do not need it. I am not a child anymore. I am a man grown and this is the woman I want to marry.” Loki said, gesturing to you.
You walked over and placed a hand on his chest as he wrapped an arm around you.
“This is one order I give you, both as god and prince- Perform a marriage between me and Y/N. The Jotun Prophet says she is my True Love- always shall be. Don’t break the True Love Bond. Perform a marriage ceremony. I’ll reward you handsomely if you do.”
They relented. The Older Priest led you both to the large altar in the next room. It had a tall statue of Frigga smiling with outstretched hands from her gown’s sleeves. Firewood was brought to make a nice kindling blaze in the fireplace from the younger priest to the fireplace in the room.
The older priest gestured you both to You walked around it to the wooden table placed right before the statue. It was covered in runes in its tan wood. There was a small dagger, a cornucopia, and a tall, white candle that the elder priest lit with fire from the fireplace. The younger priest stood to bear witness, as well as holding a spare marriage contract for you both.
“The AllMother might feel a slight twinge in the air tomorrow, for marriage is part of her realm. But yet…if you are certain, then you are certain. Any last things you would like before we begin?” asked the older priest.
“It feels a little more like a lamb is about to be sacrificed than a wedding,” you shyly commented, for the Christian weddings of home were more what you were used to.
“The AllMother doesn’t like offerings of lamb!!” laughed the older priest.
“Here- let me make it more decorated, then,” Loki offered.
With a flick of his hand, there were flowers everywhere. Soft roses in bloom, their perfume a gentle caress in the air. They decorated the statue and the altar. Flower crowns were placed on the two priests, much to their amusement.
“Should I go back home and get that lacy bustle dress then? I know it’s your favorite” you teased Loki.
He gave you a small laugh, then lifted his hand and flicked it in the air.
Golden light came down from over your heads, he gave himself rich green robes with gold armor plates over his shoulders Both a prince and a groom.
You looked as the magic went over you and your clothes transformed on your body. You were given a long dress that was a soft blush pink to compliment his green. It shimmered when light touched it. It showed your shoulders but the sleeves were so long they draped to the floor, the way that a few of the queen’s dresses did. For that was what a woman of royalty wore. The bodice made a heart shape over your chest. On your head was a long veil that went down your back and onto the floor of sheer material, forming a beautiful train melting into a lacelike pattern. It made you look like you floated.
You smiled up at him.
“It’s beautiful, thank you!” you gasped.
Loki smiled, then nodded at the priest for him to begin.
You clasped hands. There was a prayer and some milk poured into a bowl and placed at the feet of the statue as an offering to Frigga..Loki conjured daggers for you both to trade, symbolizing how you would protect each other.
“Now, make your vows to each other,” signaled the Priest.
Loki held your hands. Though the priest whispered the words in his ear, he repeated it with sincerity.
"I, Loki, do swear before the AllFather and AllMother, take you to be my wife, my friend, my lover, and my companion. From this day until only death do us part. I pledge you my fidelity, refusing all others as long as we live. My softest words and tenderest embraces. I shall choose to respect you and choose to love you. In my bed and on my table. In battle and in peace. In sickness and in health. In joy and in sorrow. Day and night. From this hour, as long as we both live."
You took his hands and repeated what the priest whispered into your ear.
“I, Y/N, do swear before the AllFather and AllMother, to take you to be my husband, My friend, my lover, and my companion. From this day until death do us part.
Then Loki’s magic brought up the ring- the very one you won from the Weaver’s cottage.
“That was why the Weaver thought I earned it…even she knew…” you wondered.
“She’s a matchmaker then, who knew,” Loki teased.
Loki placed it gently around your finger. He conjured a ring that you slipped through his finger.
There was a final prayer and chant. The younger priest brought forth the document which you both signed.
“Now seal it with a kiss- and all the nine realms shall consider you husband and wife,” announced The Older Priest.
You did, happily. Embracing each other and locking lips. They both smiled and applauded. Loki paid them generously with a conjured bag of coin.
You both were still holding hands as you hurried home. Your wedding gown and his shoulder plates glowing in the moonlight.
With the crowds around Asgard, you could slip by unnoticed. But you were smiling. He was red-cheeked, almost running and pulling you with him until you picked up your skirt and met his pace. You ran together back home at an equal speed. The thrill of being married at last soaring in your hearts.
You got home in your finery, clutching hands happily. At the entrance, no one came to meet you. The guards simply allowed you through, never asking questions.
“Husband…” you teased, tasting the word. Placing a hand on his warm chest. His eyes went big.
“In the older times, a marriage isn’t considered legal until it is consummated. Is Asgard…like that?” you asked with a slight giggle in your voice.
Loki took his hands around your waist.
“Better safe than sorry, then,” he agreed.
He scooped you easily into his arms and carried you right into his chambers. Taking you onto his green bed and laying you down.
He crawled on top of you and kissed you. Desire burned between your legs as he let in some of his tongue and touched your face, pulling you close. Hands greedily running down your body. Giggling you rolled over so he laid down and you were on top. The veil shimmered as it fell from your head into a melted, sparkly puddle on the floor. He let out a small gasp of surprise but laughed it off, his ivory face below you, his beautiful black curls splayed across the bed.
‘Now that we are wed, I’m going to make my wife scream with pleasure on our wedding night. And every night after that.”
His hands went to your hips, gripping the flesh beneath the cloth. You set yours on his broad shoulders.
“First I’ll have to spare your stallion and ride you instead!” you whispered.
“I love you, my wife… and princess,” he voiced.
“I love you too- prince and husband,” you said.
You began to grind him as he undid his own leather trousers. Then you pulled up your long skirts and began to sink onto his-
“O God, whose blessed Son was manifested that He might destroy the works of the devil and make us the children of God and heirs of eternal life:...”
The vicar’s voice broke you out of your memories.
That was just the past. And here you were in a familiar scene. The memory is still warm in your body though you were back in that sterile church.
“Grant us, we beseech thee, that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves even as he is pure…’ Will continued to intone, signaling the beginning of the service.
You were sitting dutifully on the front row next to your parents. Just as you did for a long time. You were back home in Aldwinter, but you did not feel like the same lovesick girl counting down the days to her wedding and smiling up at the vicar with love and even restrained lust.
No, you kept your eyes down to the checkered floor, hands positioned to pray. You wore a dark-colored dress, but you were not in mourning. You would paint the picture of piety and repentance here. Still aware of the eyes still on you. Of the gossip.
“She left our respectable rector for that god. Yet she’s back here and - bless him, he loves her! He’s going to marry Y/N anyway despite all of that! Despite her being ruined. Despite her betrayal,” was what they were whispering in their pews and parlors.
‘They got it wrong as to who ultimately betrayed who. Twice.’ you thought. But you held back that part of you in your head. It was rather talkative lately, but you knew better than to utter a word of your true thoughts.
You looked about. There was the old chandelier that hung up with unlit candles. You wondered how they stayed on. What would happen if one were to fall? Would it hit someone?
To your amusement, you realized one hung over where Will was standing. You wished you could make a candle fall to hit him on the curly auburn head. It would have been funny, even the congregation would laugh. But you didn’t.
It deserved to be a knife aimed at his skull instead.
Everyone kept their heads down, though sometimes a pair of eyes would meet yours.
You were back. You told them- your family, old friends, and neighbors- little of what happened. As far as they knew, you were enchanted. But the spell was broken. Yhat you were returned safely- to pray, repent, and process all that happened with Loki…
And sometimes you did. The things you never imagined you would see or do when you went to Asgard. You thought you would live a plain little life in a plain little town and that you were content to do so. Did they know that you learned how to wield swords and daggers? That you were blessed with magic? Of the people you met from other worlds and timelines and planets? Stole belongings or helped in their stealing? Escaped death multiple times? Fought? Even killed? That you found new friendships with queens, princes, and warrior women? Seen aliens? Been to a ball? Met gods and learned to love one and was even married to him?
Now- here you were. In your old clothes and old church. Did those grand adventures even happen at all?
You knew they did.
There were a few extra faces in the pews. For some in town were surprised by an influx of men who built small houses and stayed nearby. Some women were thrilled for a bunch of new bachelors and hoped for marriage with one of them. They all said they were part of a construction company and factory that was nearby…when really they were of Grendel’s army. Bullies and monsters, all of them. And it was none other than Will who agreed with Grendel to let them stay in the town…if Grendel got you back here to him.
Will’s sermon continued as normal. He seemed happy as he began to discuss Paul’s book of Romans. Once you would have sat up in rapt attention. But you could hardly pay attention to it anymore. He seemed like a ghost in his long white robes. He wore a long blue sash draping down his shoulders trimmed with gold with symbols on the ends. He smiled brightly as he stood before the congregation, folding his hands so they disappeared from his robe’s sleeves.
You heard the voice of your husband through the bond.
'I’m going to kill him,' Loki said clearly in your head.
'Not yet,' you replied.
'I’m going to get out my dagger, and stab him right where he is.'
'Loki, please, don't'
'Then I’m ripping a portal to this church, slinging you over my shoulder, and carrying my wife out of this place. Right. Now.'
'Loki, I wish you could- but consider: they're watching. The whole town is watching and not just now! Everyone is obsessed and looking for you. My parents keep the doors to the house locked except for when I go on my daily walk. Everyone has purchased a weapon. They’re searching like madmen for you in Aldwinter. It’s not safe for you to just barge in.'
Now people discussed the Trickster god who kidnapped and ravished women more than the Serpent that was just a dead whale. They searched everywhere. Children played games and whispered about him. One thought they saw him in the woods. Another thought they saw him in the marshes. People kept close eyes on their daughters- he took first you, then Stella twice, and who knew which lady would be next?
One day, there was a rowboat on the river in town. It nearly ran into another rowboat. And no fishing nets were inside.
“What are you out here for?” one rowman asked.
“Lookin’ for the Trickster god! He was sighted here, wasn’t he?” answered the other boat’s first rowman.
“Blast it, not if I find and shoot him first!” said another rowman from the other boat.
‘But, my dear pet-’ Loki continued to sigh.
‘No- I don’t want you to. Besides, even if you could quickly get me out, I don’t want to leave yet…not without seeing to it that Will is punished’ you sent to him.
'You do deserve revenge, Loki agreed “So I should turn into a cat again, trot up to him purring, and then jump out and stab him.'
'Loki, it is a habit of men to avenge women they love who were wronged. It is in many stories- it is always the woman who suffers and dies horribly because of a villain’s sins and it is not her, but the man who is allowed to live to avenge her. Those writers don’t understand we ladies are perfectly capable of exacting our own revenges. I would like to do it. I am the person Reverend Ransome has wronged most of all. If anyone should do the stabbing, it should be me.'
'Then get a knife and throw it towards him in church!' Loki suggested.
'No! He will duck and it shall be me who goes into jail and shall be killed, not him. I can’t just murder him willy-nilly and with no certain escape or sanctuary. I must be careful with this if I am to get away with it.'
Part of you was impressed by him. Making a deal for your safe return at least, done by a man whose heart couldn’t be settled on one woman. You were keeping your simmering rage at bay. You took a look at the church, you noticed the walls that seemed blue-green in the overcast sky when they were really white. The light brown pews and the table with a tall wooden cross on it with two candles between. The three chandeliers. The two windows that overlooked everyone were like eyes.
When you burned Aldwinter to the ground, the church would be first.
No, no you couldn’t. Why should so many innocent people suffer because of one man’s decisions? You had to figure out how to exact revenge on the reverend Will Ransome, in a way that would affect him and only him. And in a way that no one would suspect it was you.
The service continued on as normal. Though you were always in a half-sleepy, silent daze now instead of at attention, doing every repetition of prayers and singing each hymn and crossing yourself soberly.
Sunday evening, as always, a nice dinner was made for Will, your fiancee and guest. It was as if the letter you wrote to him ending things was never sent.
It was the same picture. Everyone sitting down in your house. Napkins draped across laps as forks and knives clinked with plates. The smell of the meal wafting- your mother’s roast with salad and bread and potatoes. Laughter and chatter.
You would make a smile appear on your face, eating politely and quietly.
Then your father made one clap and rubbed his hands, looking at you and Will.
“Now- let us discuss the wedding! Do you have a date selected, my dears?” he asked.
“We have discussed about the wedding a little more…” Will began.
‘But I’m already married,’ you thought, glancing down at the emerald ring always on your finger.
Then again, Will wasn’t known for respecting the boundaries of marriage.
The Lusty Vicar placed a hand over yours and held it.
“We will reschedule the wedding for next month,” Will suggested. His blue eyes shined to you. “Then, my angel, I shall finally call you my wife.”
‘I would rather the Serpent become real and devour me,’ you thought.
“It shall be lovely,” you replied with a small smile.
“We shall have a wedding- free of interruptions and no sickness and no spells. It shall be simpler, mind you- we all know how much the first one cost,” your mother added.
“A big wedding doesn’t matter as long as it’s with a good man who truly loves you,” you commented.
Will again looked at you softly. He spoke with a smoothness, almost a seductive tone, like when he proposed to you. Not caring the others were there. In fact, they enjoyed it.
“It was God who told me you were to be my bride, Y/N.”
‘But God didn’t tell me.’ you thought. You only looked up at him and smiled.
“And we shall spend our lives fulfilling His word together,” he continued.
‘Did God also tell you to stick your fingers up Cora’s-’
“Oh, how beautiful! To see you finally married off to this godly, lovely man!” your mother sighed out loud.
“I am the happiest woman in Essex, ” you replied.
He kissed your hands and left back home.
“Y/N, now that you are a parsonage bride, be sure to attend to your duties at the church tomorrow. You must become used to them,” your mother reminded you.
One idea hit you. A small step.
Revenge you realized, was similar to cooking or baking. When one has a recipe, there are all sorts of small ingredients to gather, steps to take, and things to measure and mix. Small steps. They don’t seem like much at first, but bit by bit, they became something bigger, grander.
“Yes, mother. I shall,” you replied dutifully.
The next afternoon, the church was empty. Only Will and a few others planning out events in the meeting room. You had to help keep it tidy and check plans for Sunday School, for you were now going to join as another volunteer teacher for the children. As you looked over the lesson plans with the other teachers, you reached out your powers through your gifts. Searching. Would they be where they were last…
They reached his office. To what was under his desk.
No box. And no personal mail.
The letters from Cora were not in his office, you realized. That would take some searching.
But another thing was near his office- the church treasury kept in a safe in the next room.
Another step to your revenge.
One of the benefits of being a vicar was that while a clergyman received some of the tithes, a vicar got all of them.
Of course, some of it went to support his own church and ministry as well as put bread on the table. Will was probably discussing the budget with them from the Sunday tithes.
Finishing the Sunday School lesson planning was done.
Your senses told you the room with the safe was empty.
The old woman who taught the children’s Sunday school chattered on. Usually, women could teach children and other women. It was rare for a woman to teach a Sunday School class that included men. You got up. Saying you were going to get a glass of water and to wait for the Reverend, excuse me.
No one was in the hall. You quickly hurried in, your steps soft. To not click on the floors. Your powers unlocked the door and you stepped in. The plain brown room with a plain grey safe.
Quickly, your senses managed to unlock it. Opening up to numerous checks and huge wads of cash and coins in baskets.
You got out a few things of cash. Taking off your shoe, you slipped it beneath your foot and then retied it on. You then locked it back. Quickly walking away. You went over to the church kitchens to get your glass of water and sip on it in one of the parlors, your eyes down in innocence.
When you got home, you sat down in your chair, claiming you were tired and needed to rest. You looked at the blue gloves you had been knitting recently. Your eyes focused, your powers embracing it. You let it rip open and then reattach, sewn back together easily.
You removed your shoes and got out the cash.
You took the money and placed it in a blank envelope. Oh, how you wished you could recreate handwriting! Then you would forge Will signing it! But you could not, as much as you practiced. That would have given you away.
So at night, when no one was around, no one walking the streets, you briefly slipped the letter under your door. Then you went back to continue to knit more gloves as your parents read.
'Move' you commanded the letter silently.
And it did- it began to drift through the dirt road. You sensed where Mrs. Seaborne resided and directed the letter there as it floated through the ground as if a breeze moved it.
'Go to her house, slip it under the door,' you commanded it.
Quietly as a firefly. It located the house of a certain widow and slipped it under the door.
Your parents then said you would have to read the Bible more, to prepare for your marriage, and gave you a new copy they had bought. You turned to the Old Testament book of Judges and silently read some as they continued their own post-dinner activities by candlelight.
You poured over one story in that book. There was once a tyrant named Sisera who had long oppressed the Hebrew people. After his army lost a decisive battle with the Hebrew forces, he fled like a coward. He discovered a tent where who should be there, but only an ordinary housewife named Jael. She knew what he had done. She let Sisera have her food and sleep there as a guest, promising him that he was safe. Then as he slept, she got out a tent peg and killed him by hammering it through his skull.
You wondered why there weren’t more sermons discussing Jael. Why many never even spoke of her. Or perhaps even knew of her.
So every day you sat, sewed, obeyed your parents and fiancee, and prayed and bided your time. You had to seem like Jael- an innocent, dutiful, pleasant woman who would only do what was asked of her. Then, when the time was right, you would drive the peg through the skull of your Sisera.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ─── Will loved to take long walks in the mornings. Especially through the fields, the forests, and by the sea. You realized each day you sensed him. They were like clockwork-mid morning after breakfast. Then he would go out for at least an hour. If not two.
That would be the perfect time to find the letters.
The next morning, you said you were out to walk and take care of some errands. Your parents thought nothing of it but wished you well. You walked out.
You walked into the town and through. Careful that none were watching you. You knew where it was. You had been there one night before.
There it was- the tall white house, the vicarage. There was a large, plain backyard save for the little house made of sticks for the dog to sometimes rest in.
The dog was already outside, leased to the house for safety as his keeper was out. The sweet, brown terrier. He went up to you, wagging his tail, for he knew you. You got him little treats of bread from your pocket that you fed to him, so he would be happy and not bark up a storm. No more than what would alert any passerbyes. After petting him for some time, you got back up to go to the vicarage.
Your powers unlocked the door and you went inside. Now you weren’t as clouded with emotion, you could look about the place.
It was light tan wood on the inside. There was a kitchen with an empty table and vase. A little fireplace. A parlor by the windows with cushions where one could watch the outside.
It was a large house. The right size for a man who was expected to start a family.
You turned past one door, peeking inside, and you saw a bedroom. A large blue bed, neatly made.
To think, that was where the wedding night that never happened would have taken place…
Then you continued, you felt odd. Nostalgic for something you never experienced…a life you never lived, had wanted to live, and in a way, still wanted to live.
There was his study. The wallpaper on it was green, full of vines, leaves, flowers, and even birds all over. Beautiful and elaborate. There was a window where sunlight poured through the window over his desk sat. Looking out to the countryside outside. There was an oil lamp where one just turned and there it was. So many papers and journals on his desk, yet in neat piles. But most impressive in his room were the bookshelves. His study was almost a library in itself- tall bookshelves. Full of books, more than you could name. It was likely they all were books of theology or even history or anything having to do with his ministry and studies.
You looked about, pausing and smelling the musk of the place. The beautiful wallpaper. The impressive collection of books.
You could almost feel it like wearing an old shirt- the life you once had. A life that was also within your grasp again. A life where you would live in this house as Mrs. Ransome.
To sit in that bed knitting next to him as he read. To sleep beside him and with him. To fulfill your marital duties at night with quiet passion. A life where you planned the activities the children would do in Sunday school on your kitchen table. Sew up white angel costumes for the Christmas pageant every year. To go and stand by his side helping to bring out alms on a day of charity.
Sweeping and scrubbing all day instead of intense physical training. No worries about Grendel, but of making sure the dinner would be warm when he got home.
One where you would gather flowers from your garden to plop into that vase, making them look nice. A life where you would fix tea and lemon biscuits, and deliver them on a tray to him in his study as he wrote his next sermon. To give it to him and he would smile up from his papers. A life where you would sit by the fire sewing, discussing whatever sermon was coming up next with him as he made notes. Plan recipes for the newest church dinner or picnic coming up and talk to him about who was making what. Picking pastel wallpaper for a certain special room in the future for both of you. Holding hands in the middle of services.
No quests, adventures, or fighting. A quiet life, a domestic, peaceful life. A life you could no longer have. A life no longer accessible -and a life you knew you could no longer let yourself want.
Your powers reached and you found you were correct in your suspicions.
The second desk drawer on the left side. The locked one.
Your powers unlocked it and it jiggled open. There inside were letters. The love letters from Cora to the Lusty Vicar.
Because he wasn’t known as the Faithful Vicar.
Though it made your heart race and your stomach turn, you picked up the letters and began to skim through some of them. You couldn’t take all of them or he would be immediately suspicious. You had to select only a limited number of them- so they had to be the most damning ones.
You turned past one discussing the Serpent to a piece of paper with Will’s handwriting on it. A draft of a letter to respond to her.
“I apologize for not writing, there was too much to say. I cannot think straight around you. I love you, Cora.”
Love- Love! He was sure it was love! You noticed the rest of it was full of scribbled-out words.
Then you found the next one from Cora. Two words in it stood out to you and nearly made you drop the paper.
“Come quickly.”
She was asking Will to leave you for her! The shock made the letter tremble in your hands and your vision went dizzy at the edges.
“Come quickly.”
Your mind then raced, imagined, as minds do… spiraling further in its self-destructive cycle of imagination. Will told you he wouldn’t leave you…he also said he loved you. Said that he still loved you…
“Come quickly.”
What if you already married Will…and he ran off with Cora?
You imagined the scene.
You could see it already in this house. You would be doing your daily duties humming a cheerful song. Refreshing the vase in the kitchen with flowers. Planning ingredients for dinner.
The day turned to evening…and realizing he was taking longer with his church duties than normal. Wondering if something happened. Already missing him as you dusted off the countertops. Full of happy memories of him in your earlier days of marriage. The light brown kitchen where he’d lay a gentle hand on your shoulder in fondness as you stirred the soup. The doorways you teased that he was too tall for. Looking through the dinner you were going to make that night.
Panic bubbled lightly as the sun dipped down and the day became night.
You would finally wander into his study. The light shining orange from his lamp…. There, on the table was a letter addressed to you from him. You would reach for it and read it.
“My dear wife, I am in love with Cora Seaborne. I cannot think straight around her…with her, there is too much to say. I am going with her. I ask for your blessing. I will make sure you are taken care of. Thank you, for your dear blessing on us and for our love.” Will.”
And enclosed were several bills of cash money.
For he knew a married woman could not submit a check at the bank, then the money would go to her husband.
And now, your husband was gone.
The utter shock. Rereading it to make sure it was real, that this nightmare was real. The rage. The tears. The brokenness washing over you. How you would shake. Holding onto his desk for support. Until your legs gave out- how you would collapse, sobbing. Those three little words that would feel like a kick over and over: “for our love.”
Then, you would wander into another room—the pastel one. For by now, there would likely be an occupant.
A little baby in a cradle.
A nursery decorated with the theme of Noah’s Ark. A painting of the wooden boat and of doves with twigs in their beaks on the wall. Full of little animal toys going two by two. Specially decorated for this child’s arrival.
To look down at the little infant in its cradle. So lovingly swaddled safe and warm. A child who was half you and half Will.
On one hand, perhaps it would be worse if he took the child with him. A child you would never know if you would see again, for a husband could deny his wife access to their children. The law saw the child as Will’s, not yours.
And he already found a new replacement, a new wife for him, and a new mother to this child.
It was as if you never mattered in the first place.
But now, the child would be babbling and looking around. Then it would burst into tears, for it missed the cradling arms of its father. You would shush it and try to rock it. Call their name, sing a lullaby in a broken, crying voice, and kiss their forehead- the last reminder of Will you’d always have by you.
To think, once this child was old enough, you would have to look them in the eye and explain why Papa wasn’t around like the other Papas were with their children, even if Papa was a priest. That Papa loved Mama…but he wasn’t in love with Mama.
How you would cradle that child to your chest, walking through the rain, the letter in your pocket. Trudging to your parents home in the middle of a rainstorm in the night. Knocking on the door. They’d open. Seeing a sobbing baby and a sobbing mother.
To tell them what happened. You couldn’t imagine what they would say, would do. They wouldn’t have the heart to even turn you down. But perhaps people would talk.
Maybe you didn’t cook as well. Maybe you were mad and had to be sent to an asylum. Maybe you weren’t as pretty as Cora. Or as interesting or clever. Maybe you didn’t pleasure Will enough in his bed and the Lusty Vicar had to be satiated somehow.
You would not be able to file a divorce. A husband who had an affair and now abandoned you was not the legal grounds for a wife to divorce a husband.
In the eyes of both God and the Law, you were still William Ransome’s wife.
Now…you had to stay married to him until only Death did you part or he decided to initiate a divorce. Even though you were the upright, godly, proper vicar’s wife…the law would not be on your side. Not as a woman.
To wait. For envelopes that had letters- and especially money. To live at the mercy of those envelopes. Hoping the cash would be enough. For food, for warm clothes for your child- no his child, for by the law, the child belonged to the father, not the mother. The humiliation, the pain, the loneliness.
All because Will and Cora were in love.
And all because a stupid whale carcass was what brought them together in the first place!
You wanted to take that lamp that sat at his desk and throw it at the wall until it shattered into a million pieces. You wanted to tear at that letter. Topple the bookshelves and rip apart every last book that belonged to Father William Ransome. Do every violent thing to destroy that room in a rage. To run to Cora’s house armed with a cane like what men and old people used to walk with. For it was she who wrote that letter in the first place. Ready to beat the tar out of her until she-
But no…that wasn’t real. That didn’t happen. This was real, you reminded yourself. You were just sitting in his office with shaking hands.
‘I am not the Unwanted Wife of Aldwinter…I am the Princess of Asgard. Loki loves me, he says I’m beautiful, that I am enough for him- that I am great and awe-inspiring…he is who matters now. I am. Beautiful, powerful, and dangerous. I have the Aesir people, the servants of the palace, the warriors, and the army and legion of Asgard at my disposal- and I shall strike into Will and Cora until they plead for the mercy I will never give them,’ you reminded yourself.
Your senses reached out again and you found old documents from when Will was granted the vicarage and position. You memorized the names of those who appointed him. You searched thoroughly until you found papers with the address of the seminary that appointed him. Taking a scrap piece of paper on the desk and his pen, you wrote their names, as well name of their building and its address. You wrote it down and then hid it in your stocking.
And you had to hurry- what if he decided to return soon? Your senses told you he was still walking outside…but you would not tempt fate.
Taking in a shaky breath, you returned the draft of his letter- you could take it. But if it was missing, he would suspect something was afoot. You set the draft down.
You planned to take two to damn Will. Instead, you took three love letters- including the “come quickly” letter. For she was going to be punished already as harshly as he.
You stuffed them into the pockets of your skirt.
You promptly left the vicarage back to town, taking a path that made it less suspicious you came directly from there.
You did a little grocery shopping, and returned, saying you had to walk to clear your head- you had a nightmare last night. About Loki. You poured a few tears and they fixed you some tea in consolation, telling you that your enchantment and the dreadful act of warming his bed was all over.
Then, once you were alone in your room, You took out the letters from your clothes and hid them your copy of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, which you kept firmly in your personal bookshelf.
They were ingredients left to simmer until boiling. You had the evidence and the first address to send one to. You now had to figure out where to send the other two to bring them down.

If anyone is looking for a really fun completed FNAF DCA fanfic. I highly recommend Chester and the Jesters by @eyndr-stories. Eyndr, thank you so much for writing it!
The story is fantastic and makes me smile every time I re-read it. I made some fan art of a scene from chapter one because I wanted a cover for the copy on my kindle.
If anyone is reading it for the 1st time, the story opens in the woods during a storm. Whenever I read it, I have the music from Loki playing in the back of my head when Roxxcart is hit by a devastating hurricane. on YouTube as "Roxxcart, 2050" from the score of TV miniseries Loki(2021) composed by Natalie Holt. If you like reading with music in the background. I would recommend it for ambiance

From Loki: The Liar #4 (and Scarlet Witch #8) to The Immortal Thor #1
For about a month now, we’ve had what amounts to essentially two Lokis running around the comics (cutting this off mid-sentence because spoilers below the cut)
(three, if you count SW 8 Loki, who looks like Loki: The Liar Loki but has only been stated to come before The Immortal Thor in continuity, yet is still sitting on the throne of Jotunheim when Wanda walks in, whereas in IT Loki says he abdicated). This isn’t particularly unheard of; we had six named Lokis and a Sylvie in the void at the same time on Loki, after all. This isn’t even that unheard of for the comics: in Journey into Mystery, you have Ikol as a magpie trailing after Kid Loki like he’s Sparx from Spyro or Link’s Navi. And then in AoA’s own version of the void, you’ve got echoes of the first iteration and Kid Loki, along with pre-ego death AoA Loki (who’s also technically Ikol), as well as the magpie who may or may not also be a Loki (it’s unclear), with Old Loki off wreaking havoc in the real world at the same time. Technically speaking, we also had a Dark Loki recently in his own What If comic. So multiple Lokis simultaneously who may or may not sync up or even interact with each other in canon is not unheard of. We’re also getting IT 2 next week, which may provide more insight on how these comics and Loki specifically line up with each other (or don’t). But here’s my prediction of how this works.
I think the canon order for these stories goes Loki: The Liar 1-4, Scarlet Witch 8, Immortal Thor 1 (and so on). What we have to basically reconcile is when Scarlet Witch takes place, which is prior to Immortal Thor per the author’s own statement, but could take place at any point before or after LTL (but not during, because SW 8 specifically takes place in Loki’s throne room on Jotunheim, and Loki is off-world for most of the miniseries). And then at what point Loki gives up the throne, as he says he no longer has it in IT 1.
At the end of LTL 4, we see Loki sitting on the floor of his throne room with his throne up in flames. He doesn't set it ablaze himself, but he also doesn't put it out, either. This feels like he’s at least starting to become disillusioned with his position (though issue one opens with him across the universe in Florida plotting DeSantis and his transphobic cohort’s demise, so he may have already been getting tired of the job). In SW 8, he’s still in charge, though, and also still sitting on this (intact) throne, but like, even though I’m pretty sure this chair is made of ice, it’s not burning very quickly. And also Loki’s magic. So as soon as he gets tired of feeling sorry for himself and sitting on the floor, he probably turns off the fire and reverses the melting.
So Loki’s burnt out and bored and wallowing in self-pity and still dealing with regaining his post-ego death memories (and is clearly not dealing with them well, if the book of truth’s revelations of his self-doubt are anything to go on). And it’s into this mucky swamp of the god of stories’ identity crisis (number-who’s-keeping-count, at this point) that Wanda steps, offering, ultimately, Loki’s ticket out. But he’s king and hates to show weakness, and he already told Arkin no, and (at least as I understand it) Arkin is not asking for all of Jotunheim, so maybe he can trick him into taking it all, but not while the Scarlet Witch is here as his advocate. So he keeps up appearances and says no again, but rather readily offers a duel and does not try to cheat (it’s implied that the truth hex wouldn’t let him, but come on, it’s Loki). I don’t think he intends to get so wrapped up in it that she turns him down in a brutally honest manner almost before he consciously realizes he’s into her, but that just adds to the delicious angst that’s been quietly building since DB. So he admits defeat and gives Arkin what he asks for. And then Wanda goes home thinking Mission Accomplished, but then I think Loki ropes Arkin into now inheriting all of Jotunheim and bounces.
And then Immortal Thor opens with Utgard-Loki making trouble and Loki very casually dropping that he’s abdicated. And Thor says something to the effect of “I’m glad you’re back.” Back from where? The cosmos, where we last saw this happier (seemingly), Ewing Loki? Probably a more immediate trip for the characters themselves (it’s not like Ewing is unaware of the recent comics with his current characters. He often tries to reconcile his version of the character with the version readers have most immediate interaction with, so he’s for sure done his research): the quest to reassemble Naglfar.
The quest that ends with Loki out loud resigning himself to being cursed, unloved, the liar.
His mental state around mending the Bifrost before vanishing, their unspoken apology to Thor, the implications by the elder gods that Loki is plotting something that may ultimately lead to her brother’s destruction at the hands of Utgard-Thor or perhaps something older and stronger and more deadly, it’s all making a little more sense with the conclusion of Loki: The Liar. Bullseye was right: The book won, but was it worth it? Prophecies have a way of bringing themselves about even when you try to avoid them.

I'm gonna challenge myself: I have to say ONE good thing about every MCU thing since Endgame:
Spider-Man: Far From Home: Mysterio's Mocap costume is one of the most genius, galaxy brained adaptations of his comic book costume I've ever seen.
Wandavision: Incredible miniseries with the coolest formatting mechanic. Genuinely the best MCU thing to come out of phase 4, and still the best MCU TV show of them all.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier: US Agent's characterization (before the finale) was incredibly well realized as a critique of American foreign policy and American exceptionalism
Loki S1: The design of the TVA is one of the strongest aesthetics in the MCU.
Black Widow: Haven't seen it, but Florence Pugh is a great actor and I'm glad she's the new Black Widow.
What If...? S1: Some of the episode concepts are interesting.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: Retconning the Mandarin to be Tony Leung Chiu-wai while keeping Ironman 3's message of "not assuming all foreign people are terrorists" was a good move. They get to have their cake and eat it too.
Eternals: Any time they're talking about philosophy is my favourite part of the movie.
Hawkeye: Didn't watch it, but I like the Kingpin.
Spider-Man: No Way Home: The suit worn in the final swing is my favourite live action Spider-Man costume.
Moon Knight: I liked the episode that was a specific reference to Jeff Lemire's run on the character.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: Elizabeth Olsen slays as a villain, also the entire section where Strange astral projects into his zombified body is genuinely one of my top 10 MCU moments.
Ms Marvel: Very colourful and stylish show with a perfectly cast Kamala Khan.
Thor: Love and Thunder: I liked it when Thor wore the classic costume when he was doing that running montage.
I Am Groot: Didn't watch it, but looks cute.
She-Hulk: The gag where we saw an 80s TV Movie version of She-Hulk got a chuckle out of me.
Werewolf By Night: Getting jumpscared by the Marvel Studios intro was incredible. The whole presentation was visually and audibly fantastic. they should let Michael Giacchino cook more.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever: The entire adaptation of Namor and Atlantis becoming a Mesoamerican culture genuinely makes it way more interesting than its comics counterpart.
Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special: I can't believe they let James Gunn do this. Very fun special with Mantis being the clear highlight.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: I like that this movie didn't make a whole lot of money at the Box Office.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: I could say several good things about this movie but I'll say that Chukwudi Iwuji's performance as The High Evolutionary is one of the best MCU performances. He should've been Kang.
Secret Invasion: Didn't watch it, but I remember Fury had a decent speech about the civil rights movement I guess.
Loki S2: I still think about the scene in the record store a lot.
The Marvels: This film is just a very fun time and handled its three leads well. It finally made me like Captain Marvel as a character.
What If...? S2: Kahhori is a cool character and should be in future movies.
Echo: Didn't watch it, but Alaqua Cox deserves the world.
Deadpool and Wolverine: The bit where Handsome Deadpool said "The Proposal" and Default Deadpool got personally offended made me laugh.

Where Have You Seen Loki Season 2's X-5 Actor Before?
This post contains spoilers for the season premiere of "Loki."
"Loki" is back this week, and along with the return of Norse trickster god Loki (Tom Hiddleston), agent Mobius (Owen Wilson), and the rest of the Time Variance Authority, the show's premiere also sees the introduction of a few new key characters. Among them? Ke Huy Quan's helpful, tech-savvy Ouroboros (or O.B.) and X-5, a mysterious new TVA agent played by Rafael Casal. And it's the latter who is particularly intriguing.
So far, we haven't seen X-5 do much besides question whether jet skis are part of the sacred timeline, but the character already seems to be an agitating force within the organization. He's also quite possibly poised to become a recognizable Marvel villain. After all, a featurette for the second season had a couple bits of footage from behind the scenes that showed him in a TVA jumpsuit, as if he was being held prisoner. So that should be interesting to watch play out. But there's more.
As /Film's Sandy Schaefer pointed out back in July, the trailer for "Loki" includes a poster for a movie called "Zaniac!" which fans have tied to Casal's character via leaks and speculation. Zaniac is a noteworthy character in Marvel Comics, though he bears little resemblance to X-5. The character was an evil entity that possessed the man who would become Jack the Ripper, and later took over slasher actor Brad Wolfe.
Ahead of the show's premiere, Casal has been credited by several outlets as Brad Wolfe, not X-5, so it seems likely that he could play out some form of the Zaniac plot this season. Regardless of Casal's true role in the show, though, he's an excellent multi-hyphenate artist whose past works deserve attention.
If X-5 looks familiar, it's likely you recognize Casal from "Blindspotting," a fantastic 2018 musical comedy-drama that he co-wrote with longtime creative partner Daveed Diggs (yes, of "Hamilton" fame). "Blindspotting" was a labor of love for Casal and Diggs, who also produced the film about two best friends living in Oakland, California whose lives are disrupted by the broken policing system. As serious as that sounds, "Blindspotting" is also laugh-out-loud funny, and Casal is a totally charming standout as hot-headed Miles.
The performer reprised the role for Starz's "Blindspotting" TV show, which ran for two seasons and was recently canceled. A criminally underseen hidden gem of a series, "Blindspotting" takes place after the film and puts the focus on Miles' girlfriend, Ashley Rose (Jasmine Cephas Jones), as she parents the pair's young mixed-race son in a racist world, all while Miles is behind bars. Despite his character's incarceration, Casal still appears in the show frequently and his hilarious, soulful character is a fan favorite. If you're looking for a thoughtful, entertaining, dynamic watch – or just want to see what Casal's made of – you can't do much better than either iteration of "Blindspotting."
The performer has also made a name for himself in other projects, including several collaborations with Diggs. A poet and rapper in addition to his acting creds, Casal appeared on three seasons of "Def Poetry Jam" on HBO, released a mixtape with Diggs in 2010, and contributed to the soundtracks for "Blindspotting," including in the catchy (and foulmouthed, fair warning) song "Easy Come, Easy Go." He reunited with Diggs in the acclaimed 2020 miniseries "The Good Lord Bird," a wild historical fiction series led by a fiery Ethan Hawke. Casal and Diggs even started a public theater project called Bars Medley, which remixed classic literature into musical performances.
Other on-screen works of Casal's include a supporting role in the 2019 Hugh Jackman flick "Bad Education" (he played the love interest of Jackman's closeted character) and a multi-episode turn in the "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" revival. Casal played a ringmaster named Mr. Tophat in the reboot of the classic, kid-friendly horror series. Next up, Casal is appearing in "Wildcat," a biography of Southern Gothic author Flannery O'Connor that's directed and co-written by Hawke. The X-5 actor plays a character in one of O'Connor's short stories in the movie, which premiered at Telluride but hasn't been released to the public yet.
Whether X-5 is a frustrated TVA employee, a secret evil entity, a movie actor, or something else entirely, it's exciting to see an artist as talented and versatile as Casal take the stage in a major Marvel series. You can catch his next moves on Disney+, where new episodes of "Loki" stream Thursdays at 9pm ET.

I like The Mirror and the Light better than Bring Up the Bodies, though it definitely follows the rule where if you write a really successful book, your editors stop editing the sequels. I'm not sure it really needed to be nearly 1000 pages long.
The more Jane Seymour the better though. I'm not sure if Hilary Mantel intended Jane Seymour to be autistic or if she just had an idea and that's what came out (probably the latter because good writers write people and bad writers force their characters into the shapes they've already decided), but she's one of the best characters in the book. (Possibly this is why I didn't like Bring Up the Bodies, because I felt like she didn't come off so much as weird, just slow.) And also not like any other Jane Seymour I've run into. She has a problem where she was the "successful" wife and not as glamorous as - let's be honest - any of the other wives, and therefore everyone decides she's boring and stupid. Plus all the Anne Boleyn stans have massive hateboners because she "won" and they blame her for Anne Boleyn's death instead of the guy whose fault it actually was. (But also "the wife" is also treated as boring and stupid. Every time someone writes fiction about Loki, I'm like, "And how is Sigyn going to be the annoying conventional ball-and-chain who Just Doesn't Understand Him this time?" Even if the author claims to be feminist. Runemarks and its much less good sequel were awful about this.)
So a version of Jane Seymour where she manages to fit into the general historical view but also isn't treated by the author like an obedient wife with no personality is great. Especially because with this version, you also get the feeling that she has very strong opinions about the people around her that they would probably find very disconcerting.
I'm sure it bears no resemblance to what we know of the actual woman, though possibly because we don't have enough data. I will forgive historical inaccuracy in fiction when the fiction is good enough.
I have minimal interest in seeing the miniseries adaptation, though I find it amusing that Mark Rylance looks so much more like Thomas More than Thomas Cromwell. Man up and cast a fat guy as Cromwell, BBC you cowards.

Welcome to Hell & Welcome to Hell 2 - indie shorts. Sock's first assignment as a new demon is to convince the world's most apathetic teenager to kill himself. Except that Sock is, like, really bad at his job. Cannot vouch for general crowd appeal but performs superbly as blorbo delivery vehicle.

As a multi-shipper, my Romy heart is shattered by the most recent episode and the writer’s/voice actor’s implied confirmations about death.
My Rogneto/Roguneto heart is pointing at Romy like Loki seeing Hulk pummel Thor and yelling “That’s what it feels like!” (No I am not still bitter about what the writers eventually did to Age of Apocalypse’s Rogue x Magneto and their family/friends after letting their world survive after all; what are you talking about? <.< >.>)
That whole episode just kept hitting. From beat one, the emphasis on hand to hand interaction amongst people, the words that echoed back to previous episodes. The forecasting for the future we hardly know!
Well met, traveler, I enjoy multi-ships too! Gambit went out quite the hero, and I look forward to a triumphant return for him.
And yes, the Age of Apocalypse original ending was a knife twist in the heart and stomach simultaneously. It's still my favorite ending of a miniseries to date! (Honestly, I guess I just like it to hurt. And I guess that's why I like Rogueneto! :) )

So, a Marvel/DC crossover pairing popped into my head, helped along by the fact that I remembered they kinda teased the heck out of the idea during the mid-90's Marvel vs DC crossover miniseries, but...
How do you feel about Tim Drake x Jubilee as a pairing? Do you think the miniseries was cooking with that one, or do you have your own crossover Batfam pairings percolating in your mind?
You know, when I was watching X-Men '97, and I got to that Jubilee/Sunspot episode, my brother walked in, saw the Jubilee/Sunspot kiss, and with absolutely zero context as to the entirety of X-Men '97 and pretty much all of X-Men outside the movies, blankly said, "I thought she was gay." Which like... I mean, fair.
For her and Tim Drake, I mean I just kind of get the vibe that they were slapped together because they're very quintessentially the Cool 90's Teens of their respective comics. Of course they have a lot in common in terms of personality because they're both part audience stand-in and part representative of the youth culture at the time. I mean, I kind of get it in a sort of broad, star-crossed, "80% of the appeal is the fact that it's Not Meant To Be and Literally Can't Actually Happen" sense. And the Bi4Bi vibes.
I don't really have a lot of of Marvel Crossover pairings for the Batfam. Honestly the crossover-iest pairing I have coming into this is Jason Todd/Violet Paige, and Violet Paige is still DC, I just wish they didn't immediately banish her to the Gotham A.D. universe forever.
I think the other issue is, I'm way more hyperfocused on DC than Marvel, so like, I don't have the same ~Blorbo Shipping Activation~ for Marvel that I have for DC, and I know decidedly much less about the marvel comic-verse than DC, so I'm not reading DC comics and going, "You know what Marvel hero would be perfect for them?" It's more like "Uhhhhhhhhhhhh Kamala Khan/Damian Wayne. Is this anything? She'd uhhhh call him an edgelord and they'd get boba together. Yeah. Okay."
...Cassie Sandsmark/Kid Loki. But like--y'know, Older Teen Kid Loki. The one with the hair and the fluffy collar. And also Cassie needs a cooler outfit because please. Or you could go Young Just Us era Cassie with the kneepads and goggles and dumb little cowl Kid Loki.
