#LohagarhFort (or Iron Fort) is situated at #Bharatpur in #Rajasthan, India. It was constructed by Bharatpur jat rulers. Maharaja Suraj Mal used all his power and wealth to a good cause, and built numerous forts and palaces across his kingdom, one of them being the Lohagarh Fort (Iron fort), which was one of the strongest ever built in Indian history. The inaccessible Lohagarh fort could withstand repeated attacks of British forces led by Lord Lake in 1805 when they laid siege for over six weeks. Of the two gates in the fort, one in the north is known as Ashtdhaatu (eight metalled) gate while the one facing the south is called Chowburja (four-pillared) gate. https://www.instagram.com/p/CSNrENgBEzH/?utm_medium=tumblr

Top tourist attractions in Bharatpur
According to legends, the origin of the name of Bharatpur is traced to Bharat, the younger brother of Lord Ram. Bharatpur is well-known for the Keoladeo National Park– one of the world's best-known bird watching destinations. About 250 years ago, the then-ruler built embankments, which led to the flooding of this land and it turned into a marsh. This 29 square kilometres man-made wetland is popular for migratory birds, including ducks, geese, waders, raptors, flycatchers, and more. However, Bharatpur has more spots of interest that visitors might be interested in seeing.
If you are planning to visit Bharatpur, here are the top tourist attractions that you must visit –
Bharatpur Palace and Museum

5 Must Visit Places in Bharatpur
Bharatpur in Rajasthan dates back to the 5th century BC. It was the part of Matsya kingdom, who were allies of the Pandavas in the Mahabharata war. As per legends, the origins of the name Bharatpur could be traced to Bharat, the younger brother of Lord Ram. Bharatpur is also home to the Keoladeo Ghana National Park, which is counted among the best-known birdwatching destinations in the world. But, the national park is just one of the major tourist places of Bharatpur. If you are visiting Bharatpur, here are 5 places that you must visit:
Ganga Mandir
Tumblr media
Located in the heart of the city of Bharatpur, Ganga Mandir is among the most beautiful temples in Rajasthan. The magnificent deity of Ganga Maharaj, made of pristine white marble is worshipped here. Maharaja Balwant Singh started the construction of Ganga Mandir in the mid-19th century, but he made a very unique request to the affluent inhabitants of the city, which is that they donate one month’s pay to help towards the construction of the temple.
Laxman Mandir
As the name suggests, the temple is dedicated to Laxman, brother to Lord Ram. The Laxman Temple is famous for the typical Rajasthani style of architecture and beautiful pink stonework. Visit the temple to enjoy the intricate carvings of birds and flowers on the doorways, ceilings, walls, and arches.
Keoladeo Ghana National Park
Tumblr media
This the best known of  Bharatpur’stourist places, the Keoladeo Ghana National Park hosts thousands of migratory waterfowl birds, like green sandpiper and cranes, during the winter. The lake was created as a small reservoir in the mid-18th century. The subsequent construction of Ajan Bund and the flooding of this natural depression led to the creation of this fascinating bird reserve. Today, the Keoladeo Ghana National Park is counted among the richest bird areas in the world.
Lohagarh Fort
Tumblr media
Staying true to its name, the Lohagarh Fort has withstood a number of attacks by the British until it finally fell to Arthur Wellesley. While many forts in Rajasthan are flamboyant and pompous, this fort stands out due to an aura of rugged strength that it projects. The LohagarhFort is surrounded by a moat which used to be filled with water in the earlier days to keep the enemy out. The fort has a number of interesting monuments, such as the Kothi Khas, Moti Mahal, and Kishori Mahal.
Deeg
Tumblr media
Deeg is a beautiful garden town that is located to the north of Bharatpur. Deeg has a number of embellished palaces and colourful fountains that add to the beauty of the place. The garden town is known for its forts, palaces, gardens, and fountains, but the highlight of the town is an impressive fort which is surrounded by moats and gateways. The fort was built by Raja Suraj Mal and was constructed at a slightly elevated point. While the interiors are almost in ruins, the watchtower still holds a gun that maintains a watch over the city.
Bharatpur could be termed as mini-Rajasthan, with its forts, bustling bazaars, and the wildlife, providing a glimpse of what this beautiful state has to offer. So, on your next visit to Rajasthan, make a stop at Bharatpur and enjoy it tourist attractions.
