This week, as part of our lockdown letters project, the theme is hope.

‘I just had to let you know how I felt, please do not think I am foolish Morris, but I Love You such a lot'.

This rare surviving 1930s love letter was written by 22 year old Cyril to his 'darling Morris'. Written at a time when homosexual acts between men were criminalised, Cyril bravely wrote this letter, despite not knowing whether his feelings were reciprocated. Regardless of the outcome, he maintained hope for some form of a relationship.

The coronavirus pandemic has caused many people to reflect on how they live their lives. What have you reflected on in lockdown? What are your hopes for the future? Why not write your own letter expressing how you feel?
