"Construction of the “largest wildlife crossing in the world” passed a significant milestone in April placing the first girders over an 8-lane freeway near Los Angeles to preserve the local mountain lion population.

After years of tireless work, erecting the first horizontal section of the 210-foot-long crossing was an historic moment for the National Wildlife Federation, the Caltrans highway department, and many private and public partners.

“We all cheered when the crane lowered the first concrete beam across the freeway, as we truly saw the bridge starting to take shape,” said an excited Beth Pratt, the California Executive Director of National Wildlife Federation.

“This structure is a testament to us all wanting a future for wildlife and mountain lions in the Santa Monica Mountains.”

Moving forward, up to 82 additional concrete girders will be placed, with each beam weighing between 126 and 140 tons. As these critical horizontal supports are placed, the structure will ultimately reconnect two long fractured global biodiversity hotspots in the Southern California region—providing safe passage for not only the cougars, but bobcats, deer, lizards, and coyotes, as they move between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Simi Hills of the Santa Susana mountain range.

[Note: The setting looks pretty rural in that rendering, but the wildlife crossing is actually only five minutes from the Los Angeles city border and the densely populated San Fernando Valley.]

For drivers on the 101 Freeway in Agoura Hills, the construction is interrupting traffic from 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM on one side of the highway each week (Northbound or Southbound). The FAQs can be found here.

CBS news estimates about 1,500 of these wildlife passages have been built both over and under major highways and rural roads across America.

HOUSTON - Several Houston-area bars and clubs have received a 90-day suspension from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) after an investigation into alleged human trafficking.

The TABC and the Human Trafficking Rescue Alliance performed the raids, leading to the emergency suspensions at nine locations that the TABC says were "in flagrant violation of international justice."

The commission says the raids are the result of ten years of investigations, which involved the TABC, as well as local, state and federal law enforcement.

"This operation was a massive undertaking that is likely the largest of its kind in Texas history," wrote TABC Chairman Kevin J. Lilly in a statement.

The suspended businesses included:

The code allows for the emergency suspensions if a business poses a "continuing threat to the public welfare."

"Our primary goal tonight was to shut down these hives of criminal activity and to put a stop to the continued victimization of the people held there against their will. This investigation is not over, and we’ll be working closely with our partners in HTRA to track down all of the suspected traffickers involved in these heinous crimes," wrote Lilly.

More information is expected to be released about the raids next week.

Todays story is on the AVE Mizar. The Mizar was a roadable aircraft that was built between 1971 to 1973 by Advanced Vehicle Engineers (AVE) in Los Angeles, California. The company was made stated by Henry Smolinski and Harold Blake they both graduated from NIT.

The prototype car was a Cessna Skymaster fused with a gen 1 Ford pinto. The pod-and-twin-boom configuration of the Skymaster was a good convenient stating Point for a hybrid Automobile/Aircraft. The cockpit and front engine of the plane was removed, leaving an airframe ready to attach to a small car. By mid-1973 there were two prototypes that were built and three more were under construction. One prototype was slated for static display in a ford dealership. The other prototypes was fitted with a Teledyne Continental Motors that had 210 horsepower (160 KW) engine, was unveiled to the press on May 8, 1973. Both vehicles were photographed by Mike Brenner for Hot Rod magazine in late April. it then began a series of taxi tests at Van Nuys Airport were they did tests with the U.S Navy after a few tests flights were underway in mid-1973.

The Mizar was intended to use both engines for take-off this would considerably shorten the take-off roll once in the air, the cars engine would be turned off. Upon landing, the four-wheel braking would stop the aircraft in 525 ft (160 m) or less. On the ground, telescoping wing supports would be extended and the airframe would be tired up like other planes. The pinto could quickly be unbolted from the airframe and drive away. The production of the Mizar was scheduled to begin in 1974. AVE had stated that prices would range from US$18,300 to $29,000.

On a test flight from Camarillo Airport in California on August 26, 1973, according to test Pilot "Red" Janisse, the right wing strut base mounting attachment failed soon after take-off. Because turning the aircraft would put too much stress on the unsupported wing, Janisse put the Mizar down in a bean field. After the roadway was closed to traffic, Janisse drove the otherwise undamaged vehicle back to the airport.

On September 11, 1973, during a test flight at Camarillo, the right wing strut again detached from the Pinto. With Janisse not available for this flight, The Mizar creator Smolinski was at the controls. Although some reports say the Pinto separated from the airframe, air traffic controller Reed Weske, who was watching through binoculars, said the aircraft disintegrated after take-off and making a right turn. According to Janisse, the wing folded because the pilot tried to turn the aircraft when the strut support failed. Smolinski and the Vice President of AVE, Harold Blake, were killed in the crash.

Even though the Ford Pinto was a light car, the total aircraft without passengers or fuel was already over the weight of a Skymaster. However, in addition to poor aircraft design and loose of parts, the NTSB reported that bad welds were partly responsible for the crash, with the right wing strut attachment failing at the body of the Pinto.

Una vez me encontré con un Staff, de cierto foro que no mencionaré, que dijo a sus usuarios que los temas +18 no contaban en nada porque no aportaban nada a la temática del foro, cosa que a mí no me afectaba porque no suelo rolearlo a menudo, pero tampoco me molesta. Hackers Threaten to Leak Planned Parenthood Data

At the end of August, cybercriminals from the ransomware group RansomHub appear to have hacked into the systems of Planned Parenthood’s Montana branch. The organization this week confirmed it had suffered from a “cybersecurity incident” on August 28 and said its staff immediately took parts of its network offline, reporting the incident to law enforcement.

Days after the incident took place, RansomHub claimed to be behind the attack, posting Planned Parenthood on its leak website. The criminal group said it would publish 93 GB of data. It is unclear what, if anything, the ransomware group has obtained, but Planned Parenthood clinics can hold a huge array of highly sensitive data about patients, including information on abortion appointments. (Around 400,000 Planned Parenthood patients in Los Angeles were impacted following a similar ransomware incident in 2021.)

In recent months, RansomHub has emerged as one of the most active ransomware-as-a-service groups, following the law enforcement disruption of LockBit. According to an FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency alert at the end of August, the group is “efficient and successful” and has stolen data from at least 210 victims since it formed in February. “The affiliates leverage a double-extortion model by encrypting systems and exfiltrating data to extort victims,” the alert said.

Overall these awards are just popularity contests but I still liked a lot of what I saw. The Favourite Wrestler top 50 actually being half women is great and soon enough it'll be all women and we can finally admit we just don't need men's wrestling any more. I can't believe how insanely popular Cosmic Angels are, especially with the let's say rocky 2023 they had, but I guess some things are just so undeniably great people can't miss it.

Salud spürte schon wenige Minuten später wieder, Platas Schuh, der diesmal gegen seinen Oberschenkel drückte.

„Deine Quadratlatschen bleiben unten.“ brummte Salud genervt und schob den Fuß wieder von den Sitzkissen herunter.

Diesmal dauerte es nicht einmal eine Minute, bis Salud wieder ein sanftes Stupsen von Schuhen spürte.

„Sag mal, bist du schwerhörig? Ich fahre!“ Er sah Plata wieder an, der mit seinem großkotzigen Grinsen dasaß und das unsichere Funkeln in seinen blauen Augen überspielte.

Salud seufzte und konzentrierte sich wieder auf das Fahren. Und als dann Platas Beine wieder hoch auf seinem Schoß wanderte schob er sie nicht weg. Stattdessen tätschelte er ungelenkt mit seiner freien Hand Platas Knöchel.

Un gruppo di ignorantelli manovrato da un comico, da un giullare ormai fuori di senno.. Il vero player era Salvini, tant'e' che in un anno passo' dal 18% al 35%. Poi, il padano si prese una sbronza e mando' tutto a puttane. Poi fu la volta del governo Giallo-Rosso. Quelli del PD speravano di ripetere la performance fatta da Salvini, con l'aiuto dei soliti noti: tv e giornali. Pero' ci fu un intoppo, Conte porto' a casa 210 miliardi di soldi europei per il PNRR..Panico!!. " Se tutto filasse liscio, Conte ce lo teniamo per 20 anni.. No, no, non si puo' fare". Cosi, col favore delle tenebre Renzi si sfilo' dalla maggioranza daccordo col PD ( e Mattarella). Draghi era stato gia' allertato. Appena disse si, il PD tiro' su gli scudi e stese tappeti rossi pensando che stavolta il Bingo sarebbe stato facile. Tv e giornali iniziarono il tam tam propagandistico. "Ecco Il salvatore, l'infallibile, il demiurgo giusto per l'Italia e l'Europa intera. Tutti i capi di Stato Europei ai piedi di Draghi". Lo sbocco naturale sarebbe stato: Draghi Presidente della Repubblica e il PD a fare il pieno dei consensi per governare. Il resto e' storia recente con l'ultimo, vano tentativo di candidare meta' ex 5s con il PD nella speranza di essere almeno l'unica opposizione rimasta in campo. Tutti sanno come e' andata a finire. Resta solo da capire se queste destre resteranno al potere, 10, 20 o 30 anni. Buon fascismo a tutti!!
