Question!
How did you guys get into FFVII? As in, what motivated you to play it (or watch an LP of it) for the first time? I'm curious.
#for me i'd seen aerith's deaths many many times across the internet and thought#'why the hell do people care so much about this one girl's death??'#so i looked up an lp to check it out. i had heard of ffvii before but it was the repeated death scene that got me to play/watch it#since then i've done several playthroughs of my own (and watched a few lps just because)#but yeah. it was aerith on...i think one of those mojang top 10 videos? thst was the final straw or whatever#lmpost#my post#feel free to reply. send an ask. or reblog!

How...how long has that said “of”...? How long has it been “check that out of you have the time???”
Well that’s embarrassing. And also fixed, whoops. It has to have been at least a year or two. That’s what I get for typing descriptions on my phone which thinks that “if” is not a real word half the time and likes to autocorrect it to “of!”
Anyway the queue has been filled for the time being. And happy belated 22nd anniversary! I recorded myself playing about 3/4 of the main theme on piano to celebrate it, but the quality of the recording is terrible, so maybe I’ll post a recording one day when I’ve learned the full thing and I have a new phone. See you guys later!

Yeah. So I'm playing through the game again, and if you guys are interested I'm going to be posting little things about it on Twitter. I might move comments here/make longer ones here if I feel like it, but I'm not sure yet. We'll see. I'm glad to be back at it, it's been a while.
#it makes me so happy to be playing it again. i've missed it#3 years is a long time. i've played crisis core and watched ac again in the middle. plus some other stuff#but i haven't actually played it in about 3 years#...minus the 2-5 hours i put in on steam. i might have done that since then. i dont remember#anyway ffvii time is back so yipee#also if you are curious about my twitter it's mainly fire emblem and final fantasy with a dash of castlevania and nier#so very much video games#my post#lmpost#the reason i'm playing again is that after listening to thr music and seeing vaeious fandom posts ive just gotten this longing for it#then after i went to the distant worlds concert and they played jenova complete and one winged angel and showed game footage...#i knew i just had to play through it again#there was a little bit of let the battle begin! with the battle theme medley too

Please source your art. I'm going through Lazard's tag right now and almost all the art I'm seeing, with the exception of that drawn by 2 specific people who I know have actually drawn what they've posted, is reposted without credit. There isn't event acknowledgement that someone else drew the art. Just the same pictures over and over by different blogs, none of which give a source.
Please source your art. I like the art itself, but I do not want to reblog anything that lacks credit and has not been approved by the artist. Some people may not want their art spread online, and most people are upset when something they made is spread without credit. I know I would be if what I drew was reposted without any reference to me.

How do you feel about Legend of Zelda series?
I like it!
Below, I’ll go into the games I’ve played so far. This is long, so I’m including a cut.
One of the games I put many, many hours into as a kid was Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, and I absolutely loved it. I was also very, very bad at it, and never finished the game. It took me a year to figure out how to beat the boss of the 1st or 2nd dungeon I’m pretty sure. A year being on the shorter end of the estimation. I was also like 8 or something, but still. I restarted that game so many times because I just loved it, even though I couldn’t beat it. Eventually I came back to it when I was 13 or so and finally old enough to realize how to beat the boss. I got pretty far, to the 6th dungeon, but stopped playing for some reason. I came back to it a year later and realized I had no idea how to proceed. Oracle of Ages involves time travel, and the dungeon I was in needed stuff to be done in both the past and the present, and I couldn’t remember what I had and hadn’t done so I was pretty lost. I haven’t gone back and finished it yet even though it’s been years, since restarting again and losing the progress is a little demotivating. I will soon though. That game was great. I also played Oracle of Seasons on the virtual console to the end and had a great time.
I’m someone who loves walkthroughs/let’s plays on youtube, so a majority of my Zelda games I’ve gotten through that. Usually I’ll watch a walkthrough and then buy the game to play myself, so I’ve bought a few games because of that. Namely Skyward Sword and Majora’s Mask. And Oracle of Seasons, I think? It’s been a while. I’ve seen part of a playthrough of Ocarina of Time too, but haven’t finished it. Someday. Oh, and the original Legend of Zelda. First watched a playthrough, then bought the game and played through it myself. It’s interesting enough.
I own Wind Waker HD and am halfway through that, but I haven’t touched it in a year or so so I need to get on that. I’ve never seen a playthrough, so I’m not sure how it ends, but am looking forward to it. I also own Phantom Hour Glass, but I was never able to beat the final boss. I was stuck for months if not longer on that guy, and then finally lost my cartridge. My brother gave me his several years ago, but like with Oracle of Ages starting all over is really demotivating/demoralizing and I haven’t gotten around to it.
I saw a full playthrough of Link’s Awakening, and that game was fantastic. It’s another one I’m looking to buy when I can afford it.
I own A Link Between Worlds, but I’ve only played up until the first dungeon or so. I didn’t really like it so I haven’t played it since it first came out. It has some good reviews though, and probably gets better as I go along, so I’ll pick it up someday. Probably not until after I play a Link to the Past though. That one tops people’s lists, so I’m going to play it when I have the time. Or watch a walkthrough, in all likelihood.
Breath of the Wild I watched probably 4 or 5 hours of a playthrough of, and wasn’t super impressed. It’s okay so far. It also got amazing ratings and reviews, so I know it has to get better, but it wasn’t super compelling. The idea is sort of interesting though. It just didn’t have as interesting start as some of my favorites, so I haven’t gone to finish it yet.
So overall, I’ve experienced a bunch of Zelda games, and have really liked them. Link’s cool, the adventures are fun, and the plots for the most part have interested me. I’d say Majora’s Mask or Oracle of Ages is my favorite. Even though I haven’t finished the latter. It makes me think of being a kid, and that boosts my love for it a ton.
The Legend of Zelda series isn’t super ultra intense or overly violent, and has enough quirky things here and there to make me smile. I’m someone who loves repeated concepts/characters like the Links, Zeldas, Ganon(dorf)s, cucoos, etc. (like Chocobos for FF), so that’s another thing I like about the series.
So yeah. LoZ is pretty great.
#thanks for the ask!#legend of zelda is the series I've played the most of other than FF and FE#with Pokemon coming in right behind that#lmpost#not ffvii#loz#lmanswer#fflove190

...I left for 2 months and now all of the sudden I have 1,000 followers!!??
Thank you so much everyone, it means a lot. I’m going to talk about some stuff that might get long, so I’m putting it under the cut just in case. But know that after I make this post I’m filling up the queue! I’m back!
Okay. So about me being gone for so long. Warning, this will be messy and full of parentheses interjections. I’m putting down my thoughts as they are, and love tangents.
For these past couple months, my interest in Final Fantasy has been kinda meh. When Episode Ignis for FFXV came out I got back in for a little (part of why I made some posts around the beginning of the year), but after that I basically faded back into liking the series, but not being particularly interested in it. I’ve had a lot of fun playing other games (The first NieR game and Yakuza 0 in particular. They’re in my top games of all time now), so Final Fantasy hasn’t been a major concern of mine.
But here and there, Final Fantasy VII has made its way back toward me. Occasional twitter posts, the picture here and there on my tumblr dash, whatever. Mainly through blogs I followed for FFXV (and for a quick interruption I’m listening to the Episode Ignis ost and damn this song is amazing), but the stuff’s been there regardless. I read a few FFVII fanfics, spent about an hour last night discussing Jenova and the Lifestream with a friend who’s never played a single Final Fantasy game but is such a great sport. So now I’m more into FFVII.
Lately life has been really overwhelming. Like average of 5 hours of sleep six days a week overwhelming. Which might better be labeled as just tiring, but still has been a lot to deal with nonetheless. FFVII was one of my favorite things back in 8th-10th grade in particular, and helped keep me positive despite having only one close friend and a whole lot of anxiety about things going on. Thinking about the game now gives me a sort of comfort and nostalgia, and playing back through the opening levels is something that always warms my heart in a way. So I’m going to try to get back into it more to bring up some of that warmth and some of those good times back before I got totally stacked with work and expectations. Ugh, this is ramble-y and kinda personal so I might end up deleting it at some point but whatever. Also I just looked back up at the picture and I can’t believe I only have 844 posts? I made this blog back in 2014 or 2015. That’s 3-4 years of infrequent posts that I really thought beat the 1,000 mark.
I don’t know where I’m going at this point. Anyway, long story short, FFVII is pretty cool, and I’m back again. I’ll try to interact with you guys more. Maybe do a 1,000 follower event? Not a giveaway of any physical thing because I have no money and am not one to ship things out, but maybe a fic giveaway or something? So far I’ve only published fics for Fire Emblem and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, but I have written several thousand words of FFVII fics in the past. Including a 38,000 word time travel fic about Cloud and Genesis that I abandoned because I was almost 40,000 words in but hadn’t even gotten to the time travel yet and looking back it was so badly written. So that’s something I could do.
Thanks for sticking around. Now I’m going to go fill the queue.

uhhh for the ask thing, what are your favourite video games in general?
For series, Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy! For genre… I don’t have a particular preference that I could pin down with one name. Not shooter games, at least. Mostly games with some sort of fighting in them, whether it’s active fighting or strategy type battles (like in Fire Emblem, where everything comes down to a calculation and planning for the most part). Games that are fun to play and have good stories, rather than just interesting gameplay mechanics. A game could have the greatest gameplay mechanics in the world, but if its story sucks then I wouldn’t want to play it. Part of this probably comes from me loving to grind and beat games by being overleveled. I’ve also loved games where it was impossible/extremely hard or too tedious to be overleveled, so that’s not the sole thing, but it contributes. Games where you can grind are pretty fun too.
looking at my favorite games, a theme is that they all make me cry at some point. Not the entire time, because that’s too depressing, but somewhere. Something that gets me all emotional and really involved. The characters have to be part of it too. Characters usually make or break my enjoyment of a game.
So does plot. For example, NieR: Automata (no plot spoilers follow, just thoughts). I loved the soundtrack. But the plot was… not well executed, in my opinion. There was no real central goal. At least, not a clear one that I could follow. The game before it, NieR, had a central goal from the beginning, and that I liked. I want to know why the characters are doing what they are doing. What are they working toward? Another one of my favorite games, Yakuza 0, had a central plot that kept getting slammed in other directions, if you ask me. However, even with changes, I could still tell where they were going. Character motivations were clear where they needed to be. And the suspense in that one… I could go on. But basically, I like games with compelling characters and plots that are relatively clear and usually defined for a significant amount of time (Like with VII. Stopping Sephiroth wasn’t the goal from the second the game started, but it was important for a majority of the game).
Bonus points for great soundtracks! NieR (Gestalt) has my favorite video game soundtrack of all time (I’m listening to it right now, actually. The soundtrack is not only good for game music, but listening music. I highly recommend you check it out!) FFVII’s soundtrack was the first thing I ever bought for my iPod.
As for top individual games, in no particular order:
1) Final Fantasy VII (I run a blog for it. Of course it’s up here)
2) Final Fantasy IV (The complete collections version is my favorite. I really like the characters in it, and the plot is interesting too. It had enough twists to be fun without being excessive, and it tugged at my heartstrings at times.)
3) Yakuza 0 (I beat this a few weeks ago and damn did I love it. The story man… The sidequests were fantastic, definitely, but the story was one of the most amazing ones I’ve ever played. I started sobbing more than once)
4) NieR (Gestalt and Replicant. Mostly Gestalt, since that’s the one that was released in the US as “NieR”) ((The soundtrack was amazing as I said above, and the characters were great. The main character was likeable, but 2 of the sidekicks who were with him were absolutely amazing. Particularly GW, for those of you who’ve played the game.))
5) Fire Emblem: Awakening (This one is complicated. I love the first third. I love the last third or so. The middle I’m not so in love with. But this hits so many of my favorite concepts. The soundtrack, while not as consistently good as NieR, includes several amazing pieces and doesn’t include anything I dislike, so that’s a selling point. I also love the gameplay mechanics of the Fire Emblem series, even if I said that that isn’t the most important part of a game, so that gets it up here too. It was the first Fire Emblem game I ever played myself rather than watching a walkthrough of, so it holds a special place in my heart)
I’m mostly a Nintendo girl, to be honest. Even though only two of these were released on Nintendo platforms, now that I look at them. And of those 2, one of them I like best for the PSP version! But yeah. These are my favorite games. Thanks for sending in the ask, this was fun!
#lmpost#not ffvii#lmanswer#I mention ffvii but it's not central#seriously thanks for the ask I had a great time writing this up and thinking about the games#both yakuza 0 and nier i finished within the last two months#nier i recommend to most people#yakuza 0 i would be wary of as it deals with very adult themes at times#and some stuff that could remind people of bad experiences they've had depending on the situations they've been in#i mean it's about yakuza so it makes sense#thanks again#fall-of-the-stars

So.
Right now I’m kind of bored, so do any of you guys want to send me asks? About FFVII, other FFs, life stuff, or whatever. I might not answer if it’s too too personal (if it gets to life stuff) but I feel like interacting with you guys since I’m gone so often, so please send stuff in!
All non-ffvii stuff will be tagged with “not ffvii” and all answers (If you... you know... send asks in) will be tagged with “lmpost” and “lmanswer” if you want to blacklist the stuff.

Guess who didn't realize her queue ran out. Oops. I'll get on that.
On another note, I made another Final Fantasy blog called @hiighwind if you want to follow it. Right now it's 99% FFXV, and will continue to be mostly XV with the occasional IV or other FF post from here on. I have a pretty good tagging system in place there which takes... Honestly less effort than this one, as well as an organization page so you can links to whatever tag you want to see. I like it. So if you have the time check it out. I'm going to get queue filling (and this time I'm going to write in my calender the day it runs out so I don't just forget again and not notice).
#lmpost#i have wanted to have a blog with the url hiighwind with the double i since i fell in love with kain from iv#but i thought the url would be taken so i never tried#just my luck it was available#so that was cool#queue time#not ffvii#also shameless self promotion haha

When do you think we are going to get the remake ?
Honestly? Probably Spring 2019 at the absolute earliest. We haven’t heard any real progress on the game in forever, and apparently a job listing for a level planner appeared just a little while ago. That doesn’t sound like something a game near release would need. Then again, I have no idea if that’s a reliable source or not. I found a second source on that so it seems to be true, which I’m not sure if I should take as good or bad news. It’s good that stuff is still being done, but it’s worrisome that they’re only just looking for a level planner now. But unless we hear anything about the remake at E3, I’d push the release date back to late 2019 or even 2020.
I’m pretty sure at some point the developers said the game would release for the PS4 so I’m hoping that means the game will come out within the next 2 or 3 years as I’m not sure how much longer the PS4 is still going to be the most recent Playstation console. FFXV had a nice 10 years of development, and Kingdom Hearts III has felt like a disaster story in terms of being released so Square Enix doesn’t have the greatest track record for releasing things when they should be.
Long story short, I think we’ll get a post-Spring 2019 release date. Probably Fall/Winter? 2020 is a maybe, and if it’s pushed to 2021 I would be surprised. would actually not be surprised now that I think about it (here’s a post-posting edit thanks to some comments because yeah I was being way too optimistic.) 2022 would be 7 years after the 2015 remake reveal, so I feel like that’s a little too far off. Then again, like I said above, SE is no stranger to really long gaps between announcements and release dates. Most games I’ve waited for had 3 or fewer years between announcement and release, but they were also from different companies.
So, I’m 99% sure it’s not going to be released in 2018 unless there’s some bombshell E3 revelation dropped on us, and even then I’m thinking a late November or December release date so they can cash in on holiday purchases and have time to finish things up. Late 2019 or early 2020 is my bet.
#lmpost#lmanswer#ffvii remake#thank you for sending in the ask!#i didn't know about the job listing thing until I looked up the remake right now#that's more news than i thought we had#it's interesting#and a little sad#my ps4 has 2 games on it right now#i really hope ffvii remake will be the third#because i don't want to have to buy a ps5 for one game#...even though i bought the ps4 for one game technically#but it was because i thought ffvii was going to come out on the ps4 soon after and that just never happened#Anonymous#i made edits to this btw#after posting
