374. Raining in the Mountain (King Hu) Taiwan Gyakorlailag egy “buddhista akciófilm”, központi témája a materiális és a spirituális lét közötti különbség, és a kettő közötti egyensúly fontossága az egyén szintjén. Egy hegyi templomban járunk, ahova az új vallási vezető kiválasztása miatt különféle világi tanácsadók érkeznek. Ezeket a jövevényeket azonban nem a tisztes szándék motiválja, hanem egy felbecsülhetetlen értékű tekercsre fáj a foguk. Ezen a bizonyos tekercsen egy fontos dharma szövege szerepel, amit egy Tripitaka nevű szerzetes jegyzett le Indiában (egyébként ő valós személyiség, ő hozta el a buddhizmust Kínába, és az ő történetét meséli el az első ismert kínai nyelvű írás, a Nyugati utazás is). Szóval, magyar szemmel nézve ez a tekercs kb. olyan, mintha Julianus barát (vagy inkább maga István király) ellátogatott volna Kis-Ázsiába és saját kezével másolta volna le János Evangéliumát. A szerzetesek persze többször elmondják, hogy a tekercs értékét valójában az arra lejegyzett tanítások jelentik, de a kapzsi és álszent emberek nem így gondolják. És ha már buddhista akciófilmként hivatkoztam rá, akkor azt is hozzá kell tennem, hogy az akciót itt nem a látványos harcok adják (arra egészen a film végéig kell várnunk), hanem az egyes szereplők cselekedetei. A katonatiszt és a földesúr ármánykodik, a tolvajok lopakodnak, a hatalomvágytól hajtott szerzetesek szemet hunynak, sokan a tiltott gyümölcsre vágynak (titokban húst esznek, és hanyagolják az imádkozást). Egyedüliként egy büntetésből ide száműzött elítélt az, aki a szemünk láttára éri el a megtisztulást, ezzel is tükröt tartva a vallási közösség egyes tagjai elé. Mivel mindenki a cselekedeteivel alakítja a maga karmáját, nem meglepetés, hogy kire milyen sors vár, illetve a tekercs végül kinél köt ki. Bár a film lényege éppen ez a tanmese, nem lehet szó nélkül hagyni a mesterien komponált képeket (az emberek sokszor úgy olvadnak bele a tájba, mintha annak szerves részei lennének), vagy a vágást, amit King Hu ebben a filmben tovább tökéletesített (az emberi agy számára felfoghatatlan, mindössze négy filmkockából álló snitteket használt egyes jelenetekben, amely a szereplőknek szinte természetfeletti képességeket kölcsönzött). Ráadásul, ezen a most megjelent, gyönyörűen felújított blu-ray változaton kedvenc filmszakértőm, Tony Rayns kommentárja is hallható.

The price for Matthew Perry’s “mansion in the sky” is coming back down to earth. The actor of “Friends” fame relisted his Century City penthouse this week for $27 million, down from $35 million last year. Located within the Century high-rise, the full-floor residence was reimagined during Perry’s ownership by architect Scott Joyce and interior designer LM Pagano. Subdued colors, textured accents and modern fixtures dominate the 9,300-square-foot floor plan. Four private terraces take in views from every direction. An open-concept living room, center-island kitchen and custom screening room are among the living spaces. Four bedrooms include an expanded master suite outfitted with dual bathrooms, walk-in closets and a plush sitting area. The 140-unit Century building, designed by Robert A.M. Stern, was completed in 2009. Concierge and security services, a fitness studio, a swimming pool and four acres of gardens and walking paths are among community amenities. Three covered parking spaces are included with Perry’s unit. Perry, 50, has kept busy since his days playing Chandler Bing, appearing on the shows “Mr. Sunshine,” “The Good Wife” and “The Odd Couple.” He also played Ted Kennedy on the television miniseries “The Kennedys After Camelot.” Greg Holcomb and Cassandra Petersen of Compass hold the listing. Actors seek new blood Married actors Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, who starred together on HBO’s vampire drama “True Blood,” have put their home in Venice on the market for $14 million. ázsiai filmjeim (324-330) - 2018. január

A január koreai fölénnyel indult, aztán helyrebillentettem az egyensúlyt. A jobbakat ezúttal is vastagon szedtem:

324. Memories of Murder (Bong Joon-ho) Dél-Korea Már régóta szemezgettem vele, csak valamiért azt hittem, hogy ennél idiótább karakterekkel lesz tele. Nagyon pozitívan csalódtam. Az tény, hogy Bong Joon-ho nem a koreai magaskultúrát örökíti meg, hanem az egyszerű kisembereket, a maguk neveletlenségével, türelmetlenségével, és erőszakosságával, de azt nagyon profin csinálja. Az irónia, hogy ezekkel szemben mintha éppen a sorozatgyilkos karaktere állna, de nem akarom lelőni a rejtélyes nyomozást. Illetve nem is a bűnügy megoldása itt a legfontosabb, hanem hogy egy ilyen horderejű ügy hogyan hat egy kisebb közösségre, illetve az egyénre. Aki csak egy jól levezényelt thrillert akar látni, az is élvezni fogja. Aki pedig kíváncsi rá, hogy mi a rendező egyik legjellemzőbb filmes módszere (vagyis, hogy egyetlen jelenetben több történetszálat mesél el vágás nélkül) és az miért működik olyan jól, az nézze meg ezt a videót! Vagyis inkább az egész filmet!

325. Mother (Bong Joon-ho) Dél-Korea Jam azt mondta, hogy nézzünk még valami nyomozósat, úgyhogy adta magát, hogy továbblépjünk a rendező következő filmjére. Ebben a címben nevezett anyuka igyekszik kideríteni, hogy gyengeelméjű fia helyett ki is az igazi gyilkos, ha már a rendőrség ennyire hamar le akarta zárni az ügyet. Ez már nekem kevésbbé jött be, habár a színészek nagyon jók voltak, meg úgy összességében nagyon színvonalas film volt, de ebben nem találtam semmi kapcsolódási pontot (hiába tartják úgy a koreaiak, hogy rokonnépek vagyunk).

326. The Age of Shadows (Kim Jee-woon) Dél-Korea Az Amazon Prime gyenge felhozatalából választottuk ezt a bosszantóan kusza, sztárparádés koreai filmet. Különösen a rendőrkapitány karaktere volt egy nagy lila köd számomra, pedig ha találgatnom kellene, akkor azt mondanám, hogy ő volt a főszereplő. Az is különösen idegesített, hogy néha a semmiből színre léptek különféle “kulcsfigurák”, akik fordítottak a dolgok kimenetelén. Egy csomó logikai bukfenc és üres szónoklat, amit a szép fényképezés és a remek díszletek sem tudtak kárpótólni.

327. Explosion (Chang Zheng) Kína A tavalyi év egyik nagy durranása. Szénbányákat uraló bűnbandák között tesz rendet a robbantásokért felelős kínai McGyver, aki bármiből (is) tud dinamitot gyártani, és ahogy egyre személyesebbé válik a harc, egyre nagyobb tüzijátékokat rendez. Bevallom, nekem nem teljesen volt tiszta, hogy minderre miért volt szükség, de az ilyen filmeknél nem is ez a lényeg.

328. Memoirs of a Murderer (Yû Irie) Japán Egy pár évvel ezelőtti koreai sikerfilm (Confession of Murder) japán átdolgozása, és ha hihetünk azoknak, akik mindkettőt látták, ez sokkal jobb. Ja, és nem összekeverendő a feljebb szereplő Memories of Murderrel, mert ahhoz semmi köze. Az események után 22 évvel, amikor már nem büntethető értük, a hírhedt sorozatgyilkos előrukkol egy emlékirattal, ami egyből besztszeller lesz, ő pedig gátlástalanul sütkérezik a rivaldafényben. Ezt persze sem az egykori áldozatok családtagjai, sem a korábbi nyomozás vezetője, sem pedig a média-nagyágyúk nem nézik jó szemmel, de ahhoz sok csavaron kell túljutnunk, hogy a teljes igazságra fény derüljön.

329. Scattered Clouds (Mikio Naruse) Japán Naruse az egyik favoritom. Utolsó rendezésében is a japán nők kiszolgáltatott helyzetét helyezi a középpontba, félig-meddig romantikus köntösben. Persze nem sok romantika van abban, ha valaki a férjét elgázoló férfi oldalán kell keresse a boldogulást, ahogy Yumiko igyekszik tenni ebben a filmben. De a japán társadalom ma is nagyon furán bánik a nőkkel, úgyhogy el tudjuk képzelni, hogy 1967-ben mennyivel drámaibb volt a helyzetük. Mai szemmel nézve nagyon megrázó például, ahogy a hivatalnok kiutalja az özvegynek férje fizetésének 10%-t, aki úgy fogadja, mintha egyenesen az uralkodótól kapna alamizsnát. Persze ezt is csak addig kapja Yumiko, míg az anyós-após le nem veteti a nevét a családi lajstromról és akkor mehet haza vidékre, ahol semmivel sem jobb a helyzete. De a kesernyés alapsztori ellenére ez egy nagyon élvezetes és szuperül kivitelezett film, kicsit egyszerű, de csupa életszagú és szerethető karakterrel.

330. Ju Dou (Zhang Yimou) Kína Egy tradicionális kínai kelmefestő üzemben járunk az 1920-as években, ahol az öreg tulaj éppen beszerzett egy új feleséget, miután az előzőek nem tudnak neki fiú utódot adni (ezért gyakorlatilag a halálba kergette őket). Ugyan dolgozik vele egy fiatal srác is, aki már-már családtag, de őt örökbe fogadta és minden adandó alkalommal csak leszólja és hülyének nézi. Ennek a három embernek a viszonyában aztán benne van az egész kínai társadalom, meg annak az erőltetett férfiközpontosúsága, minden problémájával együtt. Ha jól emlékszem, pár éve a filmes kurzuson is méltatta ezt a filmet a tanár, mert hogy milyen könnyedén felrúgja a nők helyzetére vonatkozó évezredes kínai hagyományokat és egy (nem csak a maga helyzetéhez képest) öntudatos, lázadó, és a saját teste felett rendelkezni merő nőt tett a középpontba. Sőt, ami a cenzoroknak is szemet szúrt, a rendező a fennálló rendszert is lejáratja azáltal, hogy itt egy öreg impotens férfi (ő jelképezi a kínai vezetést) zsarnokságát a csinos fiatal feleség (a jövő generáció) és a fogadott fiú (vagyis egy idegen erő) szövetsége győzi le.
