Semi spoilery ramble about the Mr Darcy & Miss Tilney Mysteries:
OK right so I read The Murder of Mr Wickham like when it came out last year and I finished The Late Mrs Willoughby yday and!! I still love both oc main characters and have never been more frustrated by an ending as I have been w TLMW bc I was so desperate for them to just!!! Confess their feelings!!!
Also more than anything I kind of love the fact that it's a deconstruction of the Magical Autistic Detective Trope. Literally the last thing I expected these books to be but it's like top 3 reasons why this book is so good.
Esp bc it's set when autism just... wasn't understood to be a thing, it's shown to be hard for Jonathan!! He doesn't have magical powers, he has special interests in mostly obscure stuff! People are mean to him or confused by him or don't understand him and he is just convinced that he's never going to have friends who he can ever really be himself around.
And like there have not been many scenes that made me more visceral uncomfortable that the bit in book 2 when he's at a dinner party and one of his old schoolmates clocks that he has a crush, and intentionally asks him abt his special interest so he'll humiliate himself by going on and on about it without noticing. Like I felt that IN MY BONES I think we all have an experience like that if we don't mask carefully enough.
Sometimes Juliet gives neurodivergent vibes too, she just seems to be more adept at masking so it's less obvious to the reader, herself, and everyone else. Like Jonathan is semi regularly overwhelmed and frequently, sometimes unconsciously stims by rocking, and his parents and everyone around him have just convinced him there's something wrong with him.
Juliet has moments where the mask slips and she's blunt and is totally unaware of the unspoken social dance happening around her and she's like huh society's a fucking weird place wish it made more sense. Ah well. Alas.
I think the author does the Canon Austen characters brilliantly too!! I know some ppl have said that Fanny and Edmund annoyed them in book 1 but honestly (and this may be bc I'm a Mansfield Park girlie) I loved them and I loved the way their story paralleled their book! Fanny is right and Edmund comes to realise that is basically what it's about, and Fanny's strength of character beneath all her difficulties being assertive is basically the best thing about her.
Loved the Knightleys. Hilarious. Thought Emma was going to eat him mid way through the book and not in a good way, so; accurate. Darcy and Lizzie not communicating, her misunderstanding and being annoyed at him, him thinking his stoicism is going to help them through a hard time when actually it's isolated them from each other - nice parallel, like it.
I felt endlessly bad for Wentworth and Anne, hope they come back all better in a future book.
Honestly loved Brandon and Marianne, I felt like they were very true to their book characters.
Anyway my very fervent hope is that next book we get a Lady Susan Cameo, an icon, truly That Bitch. Or maybe they go to Sanditon idk, give me some resolution for that squad.
Got the vibe that maybe Juliet is going to Bath at some point in the near future. So I wonder who she'll meet then. I mean obviously Jonathan bc fate wants them to fall in love and get married and she can teach their kids how to climb trees and he can teach them the piano, but who else!!
Book only just came out and I'm hype for the next one but honestly it ended on a cliffhanger for them!! I want them to be friends again! No juliet he does like you he just can't make eye contact and doesn't like other people touching him!! I want them to meet again and solve idk the fucking stabbing of Sir Walter Elliot or Aunt Norris or Mr Elton!
And also comes their feelings the agony of not knowing kills me lol.
11/10 no notes. Well. Many notes but all of them good!!

Priscilla Queen of the Desert almost had a very different cast
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/priscilla-queen-of-the-desert-almost-had-a-very-different-cast/
Priscilla Queen of the Desert almost had a very different cast
Tumblr media
A producer of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert has opened up about the film’s production in a new retrospective, recalling the process of casting the Priscilla ensemble and what could’ve been.
Priscilla is celebrating its 30th birthday this year. The film premiered in 1994, received a standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival and won an Oscar, a BAFTA and an AACTA for its iconic costumes, by Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner. It’s now a iconic queer classic.
In a fascinating new retrospective, Priscilla producer Al Clark and others recalled how the film was made 30 years ago, recalling writer-director Stephan Elliott’s script was solid from the start.
“We thought simply that it had a shot at being an original piece of entertainment with an enduring life without having any idea what kind of enduring life it would have,” Clark told the Sydney Morning Herald.
“I was confident that Stephan, having written it, would direct a comedy that was funny and affecting… But the main consideration, in neon-lit capitals, was make it funny, make it poignant, make it good and make it transcendent.”
UK actor gave a ‘flat no’ to Priscilla role
Al Clark said he, writer-director Stephan Elliott and cinematographer Brian J. Breheny rented a four-wheel-drive in 1993 and drove across Australia on a road trip to map the film’s bus route.
“On the journey, naturally, we discussed a lot of films and I thought about a lot of films. You can’t do that length of journey across Australia without doing so,” Clark says, listing Lawrence of Arabia and Born Free as inspirations.
Al Clark also recalled the long casting process for protagonists Anthony “Tick” Belrose, Adam Whitely and Bernadette Bassenger.
At one point, INXS lead singer Michael Hutchence was in the running for Tick. Strictly Ballroom star Paul Mercurio was up for Adam, and American film legend Tony Curtis could have been Bernadette.
Clark confirmed that at different points all three were legitimate contenders.
Other choices included Rupert Everett as Tick and Jason Donovan as Adam, who both passed. John Cleese was offered Bernadette, but gave “a flat no”.
Kyle McLachlan, Rupert Graves, Colin Firth and Matthew Broderick were offered Tick, and Peter O’Toole, Richard Harris and Albert Finney were offered Bernadette.
But Al Clark said everyone knew they had to be careful.
“The chemistry of the three was so fundamental that we could never come up with a name without correspondingly judging that name against the kind of people we may have notionally cast in other roles,” he said.
A night out in drag on Oxford Street
Hugo Weaving eventually joined. When Terence Stamp took the role of Bernadette “it all seemed to start happening,” Al Clark said.
On the eve of the film shoot, Hugo Weaving, Terence Stamp and the third member of the ensemble, Neighbours alum Guy Pearce, got in drag. The actors went on a night out on Sydney’s Oxford Street with Clark, Elliott and other members of the crew.
They visited gay clubs Gilligan’s and DCM, and Clark said each of their actors transformed into their on-screen alter egos.
“It was an attempt to give the actors a transcendent moment, where in costume and in a location consonant with their roles, they would have an opportunity of feeling ‘it’, whatever ‘it’ happened to be,” Clark explained.
You can read the entire fascinating retrospective here.
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert arrived in Australian cinemas on September 8, 1994. The film is back in cinemas this September to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
Earlier this year, director Stephan Elliott surprised us all by confirming a sequel was in development with the original cast.

I developed this hc on the SVU discord server that's too good not to share:
One day, a season or 2 into the future, the squad and their fam, plus the Stabler clan, Jet, Ayanna and her wife, are all over at Liv and Elliot's new house when Noah (in the midst of a nerf gun phase) starts an impromptu Nerf Gun Battle.
Carisi is weirdly a really good shot w a nerf gun. And Amanda, who's normally the best shot in the squad, is crap at it. At least at first.
Everyone splits off into teams. Team Bensler, Team Rollisi, Team Fin and Phoebe, Team Ayanna and her wife, Team Kat and her girlfriend, Team Girls (Jet, the Stabler girls, Jesse and Billie), and Team Boys (Dickie, Eli, Noah, and Maureen's husband).
Fin and Phoebe are the first to get knocked out. Fin's all like "I'm too old for this shit." Ayanna and her wife are next followed by Kat and her girlfriend.
Team Bensler and Team Rollisi agree to a temporary alliance to take out Team Girls and Team Boys since it's 4 against 10.
Amanda and Elliot are insanely competitive so they go full Rambo at take out Jet, Kathleen, Lizzie, Dickie, Maureen's husband, Eli, and Jesse in one go.
Billie attempts pull the daddy's girl card on Carisi, but he doesn't fall for it and takes her out.
Liv takes Noah out cuz she gets weirdly into it too. He's all like "Mom! I'm your sweet boy!" And she's like "Nope, sorry. Not today bud." and pulls the trigger taking him out.
It's down to 4 against 1. Maureen is the sole survivor of the kids. No one expected her to be so good. But she's still no match for a NYPD captain, a Marine, a Southerner, and a cop turned ADA.
Now that the kids are out, the alliance is over. It's Benson and Stabler vs Rollins and Carisi. The Battle of the Partners Turned Lovers.
Carisi gets taken out first by Liv. Elliot follows shortly after being ambushed by Amanda.
It's down to Liv vs. Amanda now.
Amanda thinks she's got the win in her pocket bc she knows shes the best shot in the squad. But her cockiness is what ruins her in the end. She forgets that there's a reason Olivia is a legend.
Liv sets up a trap and Amanda walks right into it. Using one of Noah's toys, she makes Amanda trip. Amanda's gun flies out of her hand. Liv steps out of the shadows, kicks the gun out of Amanda's reach. Lines the nerf gun up for the shot, execution style. Then says her iconic line "You're My Bitch Now!" and pulls the trigger.
(Elliot's in the background laughing his head off bc he was there when Liv said her iconic line)
Liv is crowned "Queen of Nerf Guns" while Elliot looks on proudly w a smirk that says "My girl's a Badass".
After that, the squad learns never to mess w Liv and Elliot when they're in Benson and Stabler mode. And also to never mess w Liv when she's holding a nerf gun.

I Wannabe the Owner of These Throwback '90s Earrings Inspired by the Spice Girls, and More
In the words of Gwen Stefani, if we could escape and recreate a place that's our own world, we'd bring back all the '90s and '00s accessories we could get our scrunchy-covered hands on. Like a time machine sent to us by Posh Spice herself, jewelry brand Delicora has released a 10-piece '90s and '00s-themed Throwback Collection created with some of our favorite pop stars in mind.
The collection, which includes nine pairs of earrings and one charm necklace, is inspired by Mariah Carey, Mandy Moore, Gwen Stefani, Kelly Clarkson, Missy Elliot, and all five of The Spice Girls. So, yes, every piece is covered in bold patterns, colorful prints, and glitter galore.
The Throwback Collection ranges in price from $28 to $48 depending on your choice of gold or silver, and part of the proceeds made by the collection will be given to FeedingAmerica.org to provide food for people in need during this uncertain time. Also, the first 40 pieces sold will be shipped with a Lisa Frank sticker book. So please excuse us while we embrace our inner pop queens and add these to our carts ASAP. Check out the full '90s-inspired collection for yourself ahead.

pride and prejudice adaptations rated by quality of darcy
(only listing what i’ve seen goodbye)
1. pride and prejudice (1995), colin firth
iconic tbh. i don’t even know what to say. colin firth is perfect as darcy.
2. bridget jones’ diary (2001), colin firth
second only because there is a lack of wet shirt. colin firth continues to be perfect as darcy. iconic fight scene. i love
3. lizzie bennet diaries (2012-2013), daniel vincent gordh
good ol’ darcybot. he talks like a traditional darcy but in a modern setting which somehow works? it makes him seem even more awkward and darcy-ish. a quality darce.
4. pride and prejudice (2005), matthew macfadyen
looks good in the rain. i don’t remember much about this film, but i remember rain and darceface being in it and looking sad and beautiful.
5. bride and prejudice (2004), martin henderson
this is my all-time favourite adaptation of p&p, but not my favourite darcy.
6. pride and prejudice and zombies (2016), sam riley
the two wet shirt scenes did very little to distract from the low quality of the darce. i too would probably pull a sword on him if he proposed to me.
7. lost in austen (2008), elliot cowan
putting this last because i have no memory of the darcy. i’m sure he was fine. i just can’t remember him and i don’t want to have to watch this again.

Bananaman The Musical – Matthew McKenna (Bananaman) Photo by Pamela Raith
Bananaman is flying to London to save the world! The most brainless superhero ever to grace the skies is going to make his live action debut in an all-singing, all-flying must-see new British musical.
Bananaman, the Man-of-Peel, is a unique member of the superhero ranks. Our handsome hero may have a jaw line you can see from space and sport the snazziest of tight lycra outfits, but this superhero has ‘the muscles of 20 men and the brain of 20 mussels.’ Which isn’t much.
With supervillains Doctor Gloom and General Blight attempting world domination who can we call? Superman’s on holiday, Spiderman’s not picking up – our only option, our very very last option is – Bananaman.
For the first time ever, Bananaman will be live on stage in Bananaman the Musical.
Bananaman the Musical, written and composed by Leon Parris, directed by Mark Perry, will run at Southwark Playhouse from December 15th 2017 to January 20th 2018. Press night is Thursday January 4, 2018 at 7.30pm
Bananaman began life in the Nutty comic in 1980, and was a flyaway success, transferring to The Dandy before joining the world’s longest-running comic, The Beano in 2012 and he is now one of The Beano’s flagship characters. A send-up of the likes of Superman and Batman, he was the subject of the hugely popular TV cartoon that ran between 1983 and 1986 for three series and 40 episodes on the BBC and featured the voices of Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie from The Goodies.
Fans of the the TV series will remember the iconic opening sequence, “This is 29 Acacia Road. And this is Eric Wimp. He’s a schoolboy who leads an amazing double life. For when Eric eats a banana an amazing transformation occurs. Eric is Bananaman. Ever alert for the call to action.”
[See image gallery at http://ift.tt/1FpwFUw]
With a useless hero and some equally clueless villains, Bananaman’s winkingly clever, delightfully silly humour has been sealed into the memories of those who saw him first, and will now spark the imagination of a new bunch of Bananafans.
It won’t be long before we all ‘Peel the Power’ of Bananaman. Matthew McKenna is unmasked today as the star and “handsome hero” of Bananaman the Musical. Matthew has appeared in many major West End musicals, including The Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard, Legally Blonde the Musical, We Will Rock You, Starlight Express (as Elektra), and The Rocky Horror Show (Riff Raff) and both Singing in the Rain and 42nd Street at the Theatre Du Chatelet, Paris.
Also starring, as Bananaman’s arch nemesis Doctor Gloom, the super villain seeking world domination, will be Marc Pickering. Marc Pickering returns to Southwark Playhouse where he appeared in the European premiere of Toxic Avenger The Musical. He recently starred as Finch in the musical How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (Wiltons Music Hall), Joseph Merrick in The Elephant Man (Trafalgar Studios), Merchant of Venice (Arcola) and The Glee Club (Hull Truck). His film work includes Sleepy Hollow, Calendar Girls, Kill Keith, I Want Candy, The Darkest Day and Montparnasse in Tom Hooper’s 2012 film of the celebrated musical Les Misérables. On TV he has appeared in the new series of Josh and Homeboys & Dalziel & Pascoe (BBC), played R Wayne in Peter Kay’s talent show parody Britain’s Got the Pop Factor, Ippolito D’este in Borgia III (for Netflix), and the young Enoch “Nucky” Thompson in the fifth and final season of the HBO series Boardwalk Empire.
Bringing the rest of the residents of Acacia Road to life are a stellar West End cast.
Jodie Jacobs (Broadway World Award Best Supporting Actress for Rock Of Ages) is Eric’s loyal sidekick, Crow. Jodie Jacobs has played Fantine in Les Misérables, Grizabella in Cats, Florence in Chess, Serena Katz in Fame and she understudied the lead roles of Scaramouche & Meatloaf in We Will Rock You (Dominion), Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors (Duke of York’s) and Eva Peron in Evita (Adelphi Theatre). Jodie has most recently been seen in The Lionel Bart Story as Judy Garland and Georgia Brown. She was recently nominated Best Actress in a Musical as Atropos in the brand new musical 27 (Cockpit).

His other roles include Cookie in Return to the Forbidden Planet, John Lennon in Lennon at Liverpool Royal Court Theatre, Jamie in The Last 5 Years, and Hot Stuff.
