but im not going to let people just pick and chose what parts of japanese culture they wish to RP and ignore the rest

all but 1 character in DR is confirmed to be from Japan. that one character not from Japan is Sonia. even if RPing is a fun hobby and you do it because its fun, there is still things you need to keep in mind

unless you are pat of the one instance where your character is not from japan, your character is from japan. they were born and raised in japan. they speak japanese. they went to japanese schools. they grew up surrounded by japanese culture.

by saying “it doesnt matter its just a hobby and no one from japan will ever read what i wrote” , you’re being really disrespectful to your character and the source material.

its almost as if you make a latino character and have him wear a sombrero and drink margaritas and eat tacos all the time. using the argument “no latino person will ever read what i write.” in that case, the whole scenario would kind of be seen as racist, right? so, by picking and choosing what pieces and part of japanese culture you want to include in your portrayal and ignoring the parts that dont matter to you, then saying that “a person from japan will never read what i wrote!” is kind of racist in its own way, in my opinion. disrespecting an entire group of people is... yknow, not good

so for the people who are telling me “this isnt a big deal” and “why are you getting so mad about it”, i hope i maybe shed a light on why i got so upset and acted the way i did. i cannot stand to see people do this, and the way people are acting about it is something that offends me a lot.

im gonna be taking a break from DR indie again, simply because this just really opened my eyes again. there are people who are okay with this. im sorry for those who i might offend, but honestly, im really not? if you are okay with this, then youre really just making this community a bad place. its not hard to take 5 minutes and research stuff about japan and its culture. i hope you all have a good day, and if youd like to RP with me even after this, you can add e on discord at lizp#6023.
