Yesterday we said goodbye to my parents who spent the past week and a half with us here in Victoria. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s been a busy 3 weeks with Norahs birth, grandparents visit #1, the holidays, and grandparents visit #2. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But tomorrow I get back into some sort of routine. What’s your relationship to rest? Do you enjoy slowing down and taking time for yourself? Or do you struggle to give yourself permission to take it easy? Rest is hard for a lot of us high-achievers because we like the feeling of momentum. We want to feel like we’re moving forward, making waves and working towards something bigger. We like to feel challenged and creative. Rest sounds like stopping dead and that’s like poison for an ambitious woman. Add on the fact that striving, achieving and doing are seriously overvalued in our society and we’ve got a really fantastic recipe for disaster. I’ll be honest, I still struggle with rest, but it’s something that I’ve worked really hard to integrate into my life over the last year and this summer especially. I’ve given myself permission to slow down during the start of my cycle and have prioritized time spent alone and in contemplation. I’ve realized that in the moments when I need rest, it’s not necessarily just my body that is speaking to me, but also my spirit. Your body + spirit are asking you to take care of the two most important parts of you which is #kindofabigdeal. There’s no denying that rest makes you more productive. And while I’m definitely not pro using this as yet another #productivityhack, it definitely doesn’t hurt. But this is just the beginning (and maybe even the least interesting) of the benefits. Choosing to rest gives you: ✨ more mental clarity to solve problems ✨ space to discover more about your unique spirit ✨ time to allow ideas to come to you ✨ an energy bank to pull from when it’s time to be creative again How can you allow yourself to rest more when you need it?
