As Osheaga festival is this weekend, here’s a throwback to the only time Muse did it, the one year in 2017 when they played North American summer festivals instead of the usual European ones, hitting Festival d’Été in Quebec, Osheaga, the cancelled Pemberton fest in BC and Ottawa Bluesfest in Canada and Firefly, Bunbury, Life Is Beautiful and Chicago Lollapalooza in the US.

That show was the first time New Kind of Kick was played live, and also had the metal medley with the Reapers intro + Stockholm Syndrome + Micro Cuts outro + Freedom outro + Reapers outro + Agitated played

Song Review: Tom Jones and the Blind Boys of Alabama - “Didn’t it Rain” (Live)
Listening to Tom Jones sing in 2024, it’s nearly impossible to believe dude is 83 years old.
But he is. And he is still totally capable of leading the Blind Boys of Alabama through “Didn’t it Rain,” as he did recently at Australia’s Bluesfest Byron Bay.
The performance is out on professional video and it finds the two veteran acts conjuring the spirit with a youthful vitality that matches the charismatic music from Jones’ band. As hot is it is, the meshed music makers sounded even better backstage during rehearsal with Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks looking on; it, too, was caught on video.

Bluesfest Sunday Session! Whoop! Alfie and I were on a mission to enjoy all the music we could...and we did! All 10 hours of it! Such a massive day, Alfie was an absolute trouper to survive from 1pm until the end. We started with hour-long sets from The Whitlams, PJ Morton and then WILSN, absolutely awesome and earlier in the day before the massive crowds poured in...a short food and walk around break then it was onto Blind Boys of Alabama, Taj Mahal and Jimmy Barnes with guest appearances from Josh Teskey and Tommy Emmanuel. Such an amazing loud live music set up under the big tents, Alfie loved feeling the bass and drums from all these bands and artists vibrating through him.
Very tired legs by this stage, 8pm, non stop standing and powering through - Alfie determined to get right in the middle of the crowd for Peter Garrett and Midnight Oil (knowing that his favs The Teskey Brothers were the next act at 9.30pm and he wanted to be front and centre for them)...so he got the full on mosh pit experience, a thousand people going nuts, poor Alfie fading at one stage and having to sit at my feet for one song, it was a push but he didn't back out, we had lasted so long! The set finished and we pushed our way to the front...it made his day when he ducked and dived and finally got his hands on that front bannister, well done Alfie! Not another kid in sight at this stage - everyone around loving Alfies enthusiasm.
Teskey Brothers put on a cracker of a show! We also caught some of Ben Harper on the way out around 11pm....on the walk back to the car we were both giggling about how good it'll feel to sit down after 10 hours of standing. Good times!
