Taiso Samurai ep 11 (final):
Best part of the episode was jo's last routine followed by leo and rei's airport scene.
Mvp goes to that one body guard.
Silly me for thinking mappa might take a more mature route and have jo lose (but still place and prove that he didn't need to retire yet). Ofc jo won it.
Also...pour one out for liu longxiang, who at the end of the day served no purpose other than to tell jo he needed to aim higher and kinda set the bar for him ??? (but not really bc jo focused on his own gymnastics, not others???? Idk). Liu longxiang had more character in one episode than tetsuo did the entire show. Not a good look.
Tetsuo has to be the least developed sports anime rival ever. No flashbacks, no nothing. Only a single line about how jo was the gymnast he admired most (which most of us guessed was going to be the case from the very beginning). Nothin'. :/
Decent enough wrap up. Probably give it a 7.5/10.
Maybe i'm being too harsh, i don't know...in terms of 1 cour sports series i think tsurune and megalo box were handled way the heck better for example. If it's gonna be short...it better bring its 'A' Game. It probably doesn't help that this series premiered hot on the tails of Moon Land (a gymnastics manga) ending. If y'all want to see an angry ball of gymnastics fury get the proper character development he deserves...go read it.
There's just a lot of things i thought they could have handled differently and better.
Still not the worst out there though. I'm still glad I watched it. Gymnastics is a nice change of pace from other more mainstream sports series and the OP and ED are bops. I never skipped watching them.
Fav episodes: 1, 2, 7, 9, 11 (surprise surprise they're the ones with the most jo focus)
