To you, my girl crush

Hey there,

You may or may not know who I am.

But it doesn’t matter. Because I know of you.

And I’d like to say we may actually know each other more deeply than one may think.

To my girl crush,

I first heard Little Big Town’s iconic song, as a cover, and it intrigued me. At the time, I could only hear the pain in the lyrics. Thought it was a good play on words, a smart song. Didn’t take much to understand what they meant.

However, deep down in me I knew that one day I would come back to this song. That when that happened, I would come back  to it because I would be the one singing it.

That day felt far away in my future, part of me wanted to think I’d never come back to it, but the other part of me knew it would be inevitable for me not to.

I wondered how much it would sting, to finally listen to it when I had finally found you.

I guess that time came some months ago, I didn’t however seek it out immediately. I may have forgotten who knows. Or I was in a daze still.

Some time later, I decided to listen to it.

And it definitely feels like the glove has finally fit as it should.

Each line has a stronger meaning, and makes me imagine each line now that I have your face engraved in my mind forever.

It’s funny how much the song actually fits you and me. 

Each line speaks truths, yet I don’t feel angry. Part of me is sure those lines have, or will come true with him, and part of me knows they will be sweet.

I’m not mad at you. No.

I’m not mad at him. No.

I think I actually have a lot of things in common with you.

We both fell for him. When you wrote of him, it was like your description of him could have been written by me. All the things that made me fall for him, made you fall for him too.

I’ll never know you, but I think I can guess who you are.

And I think I can see why he fell for you. 

I’ll hate to admit it, but I guess I’ve fallen for you too.

I think you’re teaching me more than you’ll ever know. Actually part of the reason I’m writing this letter is to thank you.

I think you made me see a lot of the corners in my life and person that I can grow and cultivate.

Gardens I had forgotten or been afraid to go into. You made me realize I need to swing open the door and start weeding out the dead brush inhabiting them.

Hopefully one day I’ll have a garden just as beautiful as yours. Or at least what I imagine your gardens must look like.

I don’t want to be you. But I think you made me remember old parts of me I had forgotten.

There’s no point in wondering if those parts had been flourishing if he’d fallen for me. I don’t think it was meant to be. And I don’t want it to be.

Thank you for helping find my old self. Even though you’ll never meet me, I really am glad he found you and I want you to make him happy.

And be happy with him.
