This picture always reminds him of the day it was taken - the first time Emmeline had stayed overnight with him, when their relationship became something more than just shy awkward softness.

William Wood | Biography
Name: William Oliver Wood Age: 23 years old. Birthday: 14th June 1996. Hometown: Waytown, Dorset
School Year: 7th year. School House: Slytherin Patronus: Sparrow Bogart: Losing his mother.
The Wood family was a Pureblood family, but one that was not recognised as part of the sacred twenty-eight. It was something that angered the head of the household, Edward, to no end. His father had always been a sheltered man, not one that showed love or affection to his family, yet he was still his Dad. His father was a man who took great pride in his work, even though it was only a job in The Department of  International Magical Co-Operation, where he was placed in the International Magical Office of Law. In Will’s eyes… he was a pencil pusher with an incredibly dull job.
His mother, Evelyn, worked for the Ministry in The Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. With her being part of the Muggle Worthy Excuses Committee it led to a cheeky boy always having a million and one excuses for everything. His mother tamed the cheekiness in him with love and affection, cherishing every moment of her only child as he grew up by her side.
Born into a magical family with two parents in the Ministry, Will often spent time being passed around to nannies or friends of the family. He always seemed to be going somewhere other than home to spend the day, which led him to look forward to weekends where it was really their only family time.
Schooling was something that William was hit or miss with. He either got a subject or failed miserably. There was very little in-between. He quickly learnt he was horrendous as Divination and Astronomy (despite his fondness of space) yet shined in Duelling and Defence Against The Dark Arts. It was clear that if he enjoyed a subject then he did exceptionally well at it, passion often brimmed out of him in those classes whereas he’d drift asleep in others.
At the age of six, he was first introduced to quidditch. Visiting a school friend’s house, he witnessed their family playing the game. Now, his family had only really used floo powder as a way of transportation so this seemed a wild and he couldn’t wait to get his hands on it and give it a go. His parents hadn’t shown too much interest in quidditch. His mother told him that his Uncle used to play in school but other than that she hadn’t really gotten involved in the sport. His father however despised the game. He believed it to be dangerous and idiotic, that no son of his was going to be flying around on a twig chasing animated balls. That argument on a Monday night seemed to be the end of discussion. That was until his Mum stepped in seeing her son’s upset.
It began slowly, magazines, posters, light conversation. Then it grew further when his Mum took him to their local team’s game. Puddlemere United quickly became anything and everything he would talk about. Will was gifted with a season ticket for his birthday and his mother promised to take him to each game. The joy and passion on his face was something she believed to be encouraged. Now there was a line between fanatic and obsessive. Not every quidditch fan has studied the weight of a quaffle and the force of a bludger on impact. He became a regular face at the training grounds for Puddlemere and that was when he decided his future.
Will wanted to become a professional player for Puddlemere.
Over time he joined the school team, quickly developed his skills and spent every living moment breathing quidditch. The team took a charm to the face that had never missed a game and his fondest memory was a quick throw around with the quaffle, after they won the season.
The Woods were a relatively normal family, with little conflict and a general harmony within the house. He was closer to his mother who doted on her son. Will naturally became a momma’s boy and will do anything to protect her.
Toward the end of his schooling years, it was a Tuesday night and he remembers it clear as day. Sat around the dinner table, he’d quietly brought up what he wanted to do, even though he knew what his father wanted.
Edward Wood had only ever wanted to be an Auror. That had been his dream. A dream that he tried for three times and failed getting onto the course or completing it. Eventually he took up a job in the law department but the bitterness was still there. William showed true potential in Duelling and Defence Against The Dark Arts that Edward became obsessed with this vision for him.
His son was going to be an Auror. He would be the best one out there.
The news that his son wanted to throw away his potential and choose a child’s game instead brought out a side Will won’t ever forget. It wasn’t the way the glass shattered on the floor or the anger and rage in his voice, it was how he looked at him. William had never felt such shame and disappointment.
Will applied for university a year early at seventeen.
His grades in the required subjects were that high that he’d been skipped a year ahead in school, that meant this choice came a lot sooner than he was prepared for. He remembers clearly the smile on his father’s face when he got the acceptance letter for the auror program at Hogwarts University.
School was a new lease of life. Although he missed his mother terribly, Will certainly came out of his shell. That cheeky grin only grew wider and the confidence took off in a whole new level. He’s always been a kind soul, very courteous and considerate of others; his mother made sure to raise a good man. Yet he had his moments of being an asshole or a bit of a flirt. He had all the time in the world to explore who he wanted to be now.
Classes were going well. He did love what he was doing. He adored learning and improving his talents, yet there was that tug in the bottom of his stomach that he wasn’t doing what he truly wanted. He felt like he’d missed out on a chance he could have taken. Yet he always brushes those thoughts away.
Life was good for those years. Quidditch was still part of his life, he played for his house team. That was where the real nerd shone most, he was a proud member of the team. It was well known that in quidditch season his grades would slip which then often led to deals being made with Professors. He could keep playing quidditch if he kept his grades up, otherwise he was off the team.
Then war broke out and his house was divided….
It was the second time he’d seen true evil in his father.
His mother, given her job, had always held a lot of time and patience for muggles and upon the uprising, she was vocal about her disapproval. With the growing threat and the deaths starting to rise, William has a growing concern inside him for her safety. He has asked her not to go. He’s had quiet words to just stop and survive. He doesn’t want to be part of this war, he doesn’t want to pick a side but he is petrified of losing his family, losing the normal.
With the rise in the war, Edward Wood only saw opportunity.
The Wood name deserved recognition. He was a bitter man and often compared himself to others. Why did other Purebloods get respect and attention? Why not the Wood family? Why couldn’t they be a respected name?
This was a chance to prove themselves, to prove himself.
Age wasn’t a kind thing and while he could offer intelligence from the Ministry, he couldn’t serve…. but he saw a shiny, young soldier in his son.
A healthy, young, handsome man. A Slytherin skilled in duelling and spells. A man with agility and quick reflexes. Edward saw the perfect candidate for the Death Eaters within William. This would be their ticket to proving the family.
He’s attended two meetings in total. In other words he was dragged there by his father. His name is on the list and while he’s currently ignoring the whole situation, he’s keeping himself sane with the idea that if he doesn’t have the Dark Mark yet, he still has his soul intact. He’s trying to prevent that future.
It’s hard to ignore what’s going on in the world. Will hasn’t really show much interest in the war and choosing sides. His family is split down the middle and he doesn’t know which side of the line to step over. With his mother campaigning for one side and his father pushing him into the other, he’s torn.
All he’s truly interested in is quidditch. The world is falling apart with this war, it’s driving his family apart and yet the only thing he truly wants to talk about is the speed of a bludger. It’s the bliss of ignorance he hides in.

My Muses
Links to all of my Potter muses along with brief(ish) descriptions.
William Marshall - OC Auror. A contemporary of the Marauders and a smol messy nerd. Half-Muggle, orphan, and fiercely anti-purist, also an expert at Transfiguration and one of the UK’s seven registered Animagi of the 20th century. I have been writing him for over 7 years now and spent a long time fleshing out his backstory. Usually write Marauder-era but can easily write any period after that as well. Subsidiary muses include bestie Jason Argyle, Jason’s little sister Elizabeth, and William’s children Chris and Ruth, contemporaries of the Golden Trio.
Andromeda Black/Tonks - I have been writing Andromeda for 3 years now and am more than happy to write any point from her childhood and schooldays right up to post-Battle of Hogwarts. Plenty of headcanons available on request. :P
Remus Lupin - Remus is another muse I’ve had for about 3 years. I’m always willing to try stuff out from pretty much any point in his life. My tol little werewolf bby. Would particularly enjoy writing him with the Marauders but also second-war era.
Gideon Wilkes - semi-OC Death Eater. Young(ish) pureblood, joined the ranks during the first war and was very loyal. Evaded arrest after the war ended and rejoined the cause on Voldemort’s return. Also built up an excellent career as an architect and used this plus the family name to wield influence in the Ministry. Subsidiary muse is his daughter Rebecca, contemporary of the Golden Trio. I have been writing Gideon for 3 years. Can write Gideon in any era from the first war onward, Rebecca from the Golden Trio era onward.
Frank Longbottom - Frank is my most recent Potter muse - I’ve had him for about 18 months total and I’d really love to stretch my legs with him. I am more than happy to write AUs where he is capable of functioning after Voldemort’s first defeat, but regular first-war threads would also be happily accepted!

Note
Tell me about your top 3 muses
asdfghjkl nonnie you are so sweet...
but to pick just THREE? argh this is a hard decision. XD
okay... first off: William Marshall!
This guy is one of my oldest muses; I first came up with him in 2009, but I started out with him as being nearly into his fifties at that point. His initial characterisation - an older Auror who’d survived the wizarding wars, wholly loyal to Harry and Dumbledore - was developed with the help of the fabulous @shadowflameswords. When I did the maths and discovered he was a contemporary of the Marauders, that was enough for me to work out a reasonably cohesive backstory for him, including his long-standing feelings for a certain Emmeline Vance.
I’ve since played him almost exclusively in the Marauder era, finding out more about his younger life and getting to know the experiences that shaped him. Driven by the loss of his parents, he became an Auror, and a fierce pro-Muggle supporter, which led to him joining the Order of the Phoenix. Despite that, he’s really quite a kind-hearted little nerd, and never happier than when he’s got lots of new books to read through. He’s also devotedly loyal to his best friend, Jason Argyle, who regards him as a brother, and they are usually seen together.
Second... ehm... I think Andromeda Black/Tonks is one of my favourites these days. I picked her up in a Marauder-era group RP that has since sadly closed down, and I kept her around because I’d got way too attached to her.
I just kind of love the story behind her that we only get hints of in the books: Sirius’s favourite cousin, who decided to take off and marry a Muggle-born, getting herself disowned in the process and raising one totally punk daughter who gave no fucks about society’s rules. (Tonks and Remus are among my other babies!) We don’t know much about her other than that, but it’s so much fun to look at the potential reasons behind what she did and how it’s affected her life.
I’ve created a backstory for her that I feel can reasonably fit into what we’re given in canon; she met Ted at school, and in spite of a less than friendly start, they fell for each other hard enough that she was willing to do whatever she had to in order to spend the rest of her life with him. It wasn’t easy, and she struggled a lot, but what kept her going was the fact that Ted, at least, loved her no matter what. In some ways she’s very emotionally fragile, but in others, she’s like hammered frickin’ steel.
The third... well, I can’t help thinking of a muse who’s in semi-retirement these days. His name is Dayn Aisenhek. I don’t really use him much any more, but he’s been set in many different worlds. I think my favourite version of him is his Dungeons & Dragons incarnation, where he’s a bard in the campaign setting of the Forgotten Realms.
Tall, fair-haired, and good-looking, Dayn is a descendant of the northern barbarian tribesmen. He grew up in the bustling metropolis of Waterdeep, where local performers took him under their wing and taught him the secrets of being a bard. He’s a good singer and musician, and very charismatic in his own way; his talent for acting and quick talking can get him and his friends out of trouble almost as well as their curiosity and penchant for heroics gets them into it. His closest friend is a small half-elf named Cailas Starleaf, a rogue whose cat-burgling skills come in handy more often than either of them would care to admit to their parents.

Sorting Hat Chats Quiz
For William
tagged by: me tagging: everyone!
Gryffindor Primary
Gryffindor Primaries trust their moral intuitions and have a need and a drive to live by them. They feel what’s right in their gut, and that matters and guides them. If they don’t listen to and act on that, it feels immoral.
We call Gryffindor morality “felt” but that doesn’t mean they’re all impetuous, emotional hellions. Gryffindors can still be intelligent, deliberate creatures who weigh their decisions and moralities carefully. Reasoning, intellectualizing and debate can be support for a Gryffindor’s felt morality– but those things can never make a fully satisfying morality in themselves. Some things are just wrong, no matter what pretty words you use to explain them.
Ravenclaw Secondary
Ravenclaws are collectors. Dedicated to knowledge, to facts, systems, tools, or skills, the things they have already learned are what they call on when things get tough. They can collect useful skills, build complex clever systems, invent vitally useful things, or just learn everything there is to know about the birds of South America.
Ravenclaws’ efficacy often relies on what situation they are in: what the problem is they have to solve and whether or not they’ve prepared the proper tools for that problem. While Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors can apply their skills at stockpiling trust or inspiring passion to attack various situations, Ravenclaws’ tools are necessarily task specific. Do they know how to ride horses? Speak Greek? Do they have contingency plans for earthquakes, zombie apocalypses, or a surprise visit from the in-laws?
If they’ve already built themselves a tool set for a situation, they’re likely to excel at it. If they have not, they’re likely to blink a few times while they try to either invent something new for themselves or to cobble up something approximate from their existing resources.
Ravenclaws, like Hufflepuff Secondaries, are at their best when they can prepare before the problems show up, not improvise or invent in the moment. Where Hufflepuffs invest in reputation, community, and effort, Ravenclaws invest in tools. These tools can vary from detailed knowledge of modern Romance languages, Mesopotamian history, Gothic architecture, and US civil court legal procedures; or mastering the skills of carjacking, gourmet vegan cooking, juggling, and staying level-headed in crisis; or keeping internal (or external) databases on their friends’, allies’, and enemies’ likes, dislikes, connections, obligations, fears, weaknesses, strengths, and goals. Some of these are more useful than others. Ravenclaws can collect their tools with the aim of eventual usefulness, but are likely to also collect knowledge just for the sake of knowledge.

Note
Headcanon: Epiphany @William
It was during William’s first weeks at Hogwarts that he learned exactly how much disdain certain other students had for those with Muggle parentage. While he saw many half-bloods and Muggle-borns try to play it down, he realised that this was exactly the kind of thing the purists wanted.
The defiant spirit in him led him to a decision that would end up shaping his life; he wasn’t going to let anyone make him ashamed of the mother he’d never known. He flaunted his Muggle heritage, actively spoke up defending his fellow students, and even proudly took the title of Mudblood when it was thrown at him in an attempt to shame him.
He realised he had the right to be proud of who he was and where he’d come from.
