I know we’ve talked about Jimmy being Audrey, kinda spoiled and on that razor edge of protection, but I feel like he’s reverse Laura? Instead of everyone loving him only Kim can see how good he can be, and he’s shockingly unaware of how much Chuck actually fixates on him (taking you never mattered as gospel). Plus the mystery being what killed him and made him Saul, Chuck breaking him, and everyone involved calling it a metaphorical suicide in Fun and Games
Ahh that's interesting, like being a kind of inversion foil. Now that you mention it, I could actually probably see Kim as a Laura figure. Her shit with her mom and being seen as a "ruined" Good Girl and wanting so much to be good but something inside always pulling her back down. Man, I really wish Audrey's actress could've been in FWWM so we could see more of what that relationship was like.

Last entry for my Descendants redesigns! Finally here’s Audrey! I wanted her look to feel like it was trying a little too hard and extreme towards sweetness. I also wanted to give a nod to her being the antagonist later in the series by giving her a cape that resembled the classic Disney villain collar. I also wanted her crown to look like it could probably be used as a weapon if she really wanted to, and mimic horns.

Often I think about Audrey praying to Cooper like he’s a saint when she was being held at One Eyed Jacks. I saw a nasty fucking Audrey/Dale shipper frame this as a romantic moment when it is anything but. Laura was religious, she regularly attended church, when every adult in her life failed her, she still looked for angels even if she had little faith they would help her. There is no indication the Horne family is religious. Audrey has been failed in many of the same ways Laura was. Cooper is the closest thing to a merciful god she knows, just because he listened to her and was kind to her and did not take advantage of her when given the opportunity. The bare minimum. So, irrationally, she is praying to a mortal man she met a week ago because there is nothing and no one else to depend on. And that is fucking devastating.

Audrey Hepburn at an Automat in Times Square. Photographed 1951 by Lawrence Fried.
Horn & Hardart's Automats were innovative, self-service restaurants that fed millions of New Yorkers but were also a tourist attraction for almost eighty years.
After a visit to Berlin around the turn of the century, Philadelphia restaurant owners Joseph Horn and Frank Hardart incorporated many of the ideas they saw at "waiterless cafeterias", installing automation equipment at their new Philadelphia "Automat" in 1902. It didn't catch on, proving to be a little too ahead of its time. But their second attempt in New York City ten years later did. By then, there were hundreds of thousands of stenographers, secretaries, and sales clerks filling new office buildings throughout Manhattan, and the Automat provided them with  an inexpensive place to meet friends, eat fresh, wholesome and well-prepared meals in safe and comfortable surroundings, and where they never had to worry about tipping.  Beautifully designed with dolphin heads for coffee spouts, marble floors, high ceilings and pristine menus, in record time one Automat grew to 24, serving 2400 pies a day from a central bakery that famously turned out cheap, high caliber food in abundance.  Quality was a hallmark.  Rules were “Do not compromise”.  During the Depression, when so many restaurants went belly up, the Automats thrived.  In World War II, Horn & Hardart supplied the food for combat ships.  And by 1953, they were serving 2,206,000 beef pies, 10,652,000 desserts, 3,388,000 hamburgers and 4,886,000 pounds of spaghetti to 8,000,000 customers per day.
