“For Jung, there are two kinds of shadow: one consists of the possibilities in life that we reject because of certain choices we have made. The person we choose to be, for example, automatically creates a dark double- the person we choose not to be.”

Even in Sleep by Cirilo F. Bautista, National Artist for Literature in the Philippines.
“A poet to me is the topmost kind of writer in litertaure. God is a poet. You don’t hear God telling short stories. God speaks in poetry, lines, and verses.”
Cirilo, who was edified under the hands of one of the most sought-after universities that concentrate on the field of art and literacy was touted for his dedication and contribution to Philipine Literature, sparking nationalism and marking zeal on the hearts of the Filipino youth. Pursuing a degree in writing wasn’t always the plan for his educational endeavors; he wanted to paint and attend the UST College of Fine Arts in hopes of becoming an painter. However, due to his family’s financial instability, he then took a left turn and pursued writing instead which only requires a pencil and a piece of paper. His savvy in writing poetry, essays, epics, novels, and the like secured him the title of National Artist for Literature in 2015.

no powers , who is winning, mar'i or jake?
what is Damian and Jake's relationship like?
do the Grayson babies ever go to college, if so , what are they studying
1) It’s a real REAL close call between these two, though only Mar’i slightly triumphs over her brother via exploiting relatively smaller size between them
2) The relationship Jake has with his Uncle is one of mutual trust, closeness and this overall energy feeling like the two are cousins in a weird way especially given said Uncle is only 2 1/2 years older than Jake.
3) Mar’i would take up a double major of Biology BA and Astronomy BA while Jake in turn takes up a similar BA major in both Litertaure and Economics and Finance

ok, i know everyone raves about fanfics that are as long as novels and as moving as "real books" (reading is reading), but also shoutout to the fanfiction that's NOT seen as good litertaure.
shoutout to the crack shippers seeing ten seconds of a pairing together and going "i can work with that" and making a thrilling story out of practically nothing.
respect to the one-shot writers that have never written more than two or three chapters in their whole lives but can cram an awesome story into 5k.
also! respect to authors that exclusively write smut! there is nothing i love more than seeing an ao3 account posting a dozen different porn scenes of the same ship. i see dedication, i see creativity, i don't just see degen horndogs (though some of y'all self identify as that anyways).
shoutout to beginner fanfic authors. shoutout to authors that are too nervous to post their drafts. shoutout to dead dove authors, whether they're processing something or just like to write freaky.
yes, fanfiction can be literature, fanfiction can be SO many things. it can also just be funny. or weird. or horny.
even if you're not reading/writing fics that are slow burn romance or detailed alternate universes, your fanfiction is still worthy of that same respect. i love that you are passionate enough about something to create more of it and/or seek it out from others in fandom.
i've run across fanfics that i would have never sought out. stuff that disgusts me to see, that makes me uncomfortable or upset. i know how to turn around and look the other way of course, but all my discomfort doesn't outweigh my pride for someone to post about something they're clearly motivated to create. i will always be happy to see fan works of something because creating can be so much fun.

“Le Fanu’s Victorian novella Carmilla offers one of the first extensive accounts of the vampiric femme who (…) threatens to destroy young and untainted foils. She departs dramatically from Romantic villainesses (…) who embody a departure from Byronic portrayals of the aristocratic vampire. Though Le Fanu was associated with the sensation novel genre, he denied connections to its most popular writers (…).  Le Fanu’s Carmilla (…) employed such sensational framing devices as first-person narration, detailed medical testimony, and female doubling. This tale was one of the first of its kind to rewoke Romantic accounts of disguised female demons in search of physically appealing yet vulnerable female prey” (p.97)

@courtesyname caveats that my interest is primarily literary + I don’t always agree with these, but they’re ‘essential’ to the discussion.
psychoanalytic theories: Spielrein’s ‘Destruction as the Cause of Becoming’; ‘Beyond the Pleasure Principle’ and ‘Civilisation and Its Discontents’ by Freud
books on the death-drive by Robert Lowland Smith
Eroticism and Death in Theatre and Performance by Karoline Gritzner
Desiring the Dead: Necrophilia in Nineteenth-Century French Litertaure by Lisa Downing
Death and Representation eds Goodwin and Bronfen (a bit tangential but The Severed Head by Kristeva is an interesting read)
I’d also recommend my next read, Bataille’s Erotism: Death and Sensuality
the thing about researching sexology and necrophilia is that (sicko voice) ha ha ha yesss!! my brain is whirring delightfully. but also. sometimes I come across something so misogynistic and disturbing that’s like why are we even here? just to suffer

"I care," he said in a trembling voice. "I care so much that I do not know how to tell you it without seeming inconsequential to how I feel. Even if I am distant at times and seem as if I do not want to be with you, it is only because this scares me, too."

@booksociety’s outcasts event: inkheart by cornelia funke
she felt almost as if she could hear the books whispering on the other side of the half-open door. they were promising her a thousand unknown stories, a thousand doors into worlds she had never seen before. (insp)
