whenever I’m in a male dominated sports fandom space and am violently reminded of the fact that the men there do not respect women nor expect women to share their hobbies or exist in their spaces
#it’s so frustrating and upsetting when you commit time and energy to something and you’re just presumed to be an outlier or unimportant#saw a post of a guy saying he was visiting England wirh his wife and wanted to go to a game#and no one responding in the comments seemed to even consider the possibility that his wife could maybe enjoy rugby#I know part of this is just the cisheteronormative framing marriage as something conflictual between two binary opposed genders#but man. it’s fuxking exhausting sometimes feeling so excluded to the point of being invisible#literally saw an acct on the rugby Reddit with a lesbian flag pfp with a clearlt female self avatar as their pfp#and a user responded to them using he/him pronouns#it hits extra hard bc I grew up playing and loving ‘masculine’ sports then went through an entire internalised misogyny / lesbophobia crisis#for most of my adolescence only to rediscover my love for sport when I started uni#not to be hyperbolic but it truly is heartbreaking sometimes#like especially my love for rugby growing up was tainted by misogyny and that’s why I stopped playing and stopped watching so much#to rediscover my love for the sport and still be dealing with this bullshit 10 years later. depressing
