truth be told, you hated sports. 
you hated the religious jerseys, the chants, the complex rules– how it was so boring. 
but, sometimes the athletes were hot. 
in junior year you joined your college’s newspaper, you thought it would help your journalism major. your boss had told you the only opening was for the college’s sports reporter since the previous one had “given up”. although you had repetitively asked if there was literally any other opening, sports was the only one. 
and thus, you have become your college’s sports reporter. 
your college has multiple sports teams; basketball, baseball, rugby, football. but the teams that your college are most proud of– the teams that would fill the bleachers every game– is the baseball and hockey teams. 
honestly, you don’t get either sport. one was on grass and the other was ice and you try to get some object in a net. you could care less. 
the baseball and hockey teams have a hatred for one another that the students at your school seem to enjoy. though, the reason for the strong hatred is unknown. you’ve asked your friends in passing about the teams, but their answer is always a prediction or suggestion. 
the real reason is kept by the baseball and hockey teams, like a secret only they can know. 
and so, you’ve made your number one goal as sport’s reporter to find out what that secret is, and nothing will stop you– not even the awful smell of the change rooms.
the captain of the baseball team is lee heeseung. you know he was appointed captain quite early into his college baseball career. you remember everyone talking about it during your freshman year, about how odd it was for a freshman to become captain so quickly. 
you also know lee heeseung is fucking hot. 
he is extraverted and outgoing, a real sweetheart. you’ve heard people refer to him as a golden retriever before. the way he’s so playful, enthusiastic and friendly to everyone. 
but sometimes, that friendliness turns into flirting, and no one can deny lee heeseung’s flirting. he can easily charm anyone into bed with him with just his words and dazzling smile. he has an uncanny ability to captivate anyone. his natural charisma and genuine warmth make him irresistible. which leaves a trail of admirers just for him. 
the hockey team’s captain is no other than park sunghoon. 
sunghoon is enigmatic to say the least. he gives an aura of mystery and danger that seems to draw people in like moths to a flame. he’s known to have gotten into a lot of fights on and off the ice, almost losing his captain privilege once or so you’ve heard. 
sunghoon’s strong presence practically commands attention wherever he goes. his trademark smirk has gotten him into a lot of fun and a lot of trouble. you’ve seen him at a party, alone in a corner, pretending to talk to his friends, as he scans the party for a decent girl. once he’s fixed you with his intense gaze, smirk and nods in silent invitation, any girl is powerless to resist following him up to his bedroom.  park sunghoon and lee heeseung’s opposed allures are undeniable, their appeals irresistible, but you are determined to not fall for it. you must stick to your duty of finding out the secrets of the baseball and hockey teams– even if it means resisting the most desirable men at your college.

your first day on the job is picture day for all the athletes at your school. you are tasked with asking a few of the athletes some questions you had to come up with about their sport and how they are feeling about the upcoming sport season. 
it couldn’t be too bad you think. 
“everyone!” coach davis calls everyone’s attention, “we have a new reporter today, her name is y/n.” 
suddenly, it feels like every single pair of eyes on this soccer field is looking at you. you’re surrounded by what feels like one hundred men at once. 
“what happened to kevin?” someone calls out to the coach, the boy is on the soccer team by the looks of his uniform. 
“he quit.” coach davis explains. 
“no, he had a mental breakdown.” a boy in a basketball uniform clarifies. 
your head tilts in concern at the information. you were only told that the previous reporter had quit. no alleged mental breakdown was mentioned in your interview with your manager. what the hell happened to kevin with this job?
coach davis sighs beside you, his fingers pressing his nose bridge, “anyways, as i was saying,” the coach gives you a look of sympathy, “y/n here is our new reporter, so please treat her nicely like i know you all can. and take it easy on her, it’s her first day.” 
there is a mixed reaction from the large crowd in front of you and you don’t know where to look besides the ground. a few of them reply with “yes, coach”, while others are trying to stifle a laugh or are laughing. you can practically feel them judging or teasing you from across the field. by theirs and the coach's reaction, you wonder if they had a part in kevin’s “mental breakdown”. 
you have no idea how today is going to go.
after each athlete has done their team and solo photo for the year, they’re gonna line up for you to ask them a few questions for the college newspaper and yearbook. the first team that is done is the baseball team. there is about 20 of them in a circle when you walk up to them, your heart palpitating once you realize how many of them there are and how tall they all are. 
one of the baseball players notices you walking up and nods to the rest of the group, “there she is. ready for a mental breakdown?” 
a few of his teammates laugh while one nudges him to shut up. 
“well, i didn’t really plan to have one today, but if it happens, then it happens.” you shrug, making the baseball player laugh in response. 
“my name’s jake,” he reaches his hand out for you to shake. 
“yeah, well jake here,” the teammate who nudged him earlier puts his hands on jake’s shoulder, “is gonna go to the back of the line where he can learn to be nicer.” 
jake scoffs, “heeseung, i was just joking with her.” he turns around to face his captain. 
it’s then that you finally get to look at lee heeseung in his baseball uniform. he’s taller than you thought, and he’s more tan than ever- probably from practicing baseball recently. but up close like this, he really is so attractive. 
“i don’t care, coach said to be nice and go easy on her today,” heeseung’s voice is stern, playing his captain role, “go to the back of the line you’ll go last.” 
jake doesn’t say much more before he walks to the back of the line, his teammates teasing him as he passes them. 
heeseung steps forward to you, “sorry about that, our previous reporter had a, uh…” 
“a mental breakdown?” you finish for him. 
a pretty smile spreads across heeseung’s face, “well yeah, i was trying to make it sound a bit better, but yeah he did.” 
“so, i’ve heard. but don’t worry,” you put your hand on your heart, “i promise to try to not have a mental breakdown today.” 
heeseung laughs, “yeah that'll probably be for the best.” he steps closer to you, reaching his hand out like jay had done, “i’m lee heeseung.” 
your hand meets his, “yeah, i know.” heeseung tilts his head with a smile as you try to ignore your stupidity. “i’m y/n y/l/n.” 
heeseung smiles at you as you try to ignore how much longer his hands are compared to yours, “so what questions do you have?” 
“oh right,” you snap back in reality as you snatch your hand away from his, instead you start to flip through your notebook. you clear your throat when you look at the first question you had written down specifically for lee heeseung. you press record on your voice recorder and hold it up between the two of you to catch your voices. “uh, how do you feel about being the captain of the baseball this year?” 
heeseung smiles at your question, it not faltering on his face as he answers, “it’s a big responsibility. but i love it, you know? the team is like a family to me.” 
you nod at his sweet answer, not expecting anything else but it. your eyes glance down to the second question on your notebook. you know the next one may cause his perfect smile to drop. “so, everyone on campus knows that there’s always been a rivalry between the baseball and hockey teams. as the captain of the baseball team, do you have anything to add onto that?” 
you notice heeseung’s smile falters at your mention of the hockey team, but it doesn’t completely fade from his face like you had thought it would.  instead, he answers calmly to your question. “i mean, we just try to focus on our own game. we don’t let some tension affect how we play.” 
you nod, biting your lip at how professionally he replied. it wasn’t exactly the answer you wanted, but he did acknowledge that there was in fact some tension between the two teams. “okay, and lastly, what do you think is the biggest misconception about the baseball team?” 
heeseung’s smile brightens again, “i think people think we’re just jocks, but there’s a lot of heart and hard work behind what we do. we’ll definitely be winning a lot of games this year.” 
you smile at his answer and stop your recording, “thanks heeseung, that was great.” 
“it’s no problem,” he points with his thumb behind his shoulder, “good luck with the rest of them, if they give you any trouble just let me know.”
“i’m sure i’ll be fine, heeseung. but thanks,” 
heeseung smiles again, “i’ll see you around then, y/n. i’m looking forward to it.” you notice his eyes run over your face, scanning your features, before they briefly glance over your body until they meet your eyes again. his smile never leaves his face. 
you pretend to not notice his eye path and smile back at him, “see you, heeseung.” heeseung turns and walks towards coach davis. 
you look down at your notebook again, clicking your pen and checking off that lee heeseung’s interview was done. the field is loud around  you, and you look around at all the athletes in their different uniforms. you sigh, thinking about how long a day of this is going to be. but hopefully you’ll be able to get a good story out of it for your report. 
you’re reading all the names on the attendance sheet coach gave you, recognizing some names and unfamiliar with the others. you feel someone looking at you, and you glance around the busy field. through all the boys goofing around and laughing, you notice one that’s stood still from a few meters away. 
it only takes a moment for you to realize that it’s park sunghoon. he’s surrounded by a small group of his teammates and they’re all busy with each other except for sunghoon, who’s looking straight at you from over his friend’s shoulder. his black hair is falling into his eyes and you can see his famous moles on his face from here. 
as you make eye contact with him, catching him staring at you, he doesn’t look away. unlike heeseung, who would instantly smile back and beam a golden light, sunghoon’s facial expression doesn’t change. his eyes are piercing and cold as they stare at you. you can tell there’s a hint of curiosity on his features as he analyzes you from across the field. he doesn’t smile, his plump lips stay in a straight line. 
you couldn’t lie and say that you weren’t intrigued by his demeanor. that you weren’t interested in how focused, and almost stubbornly, he was staring at you. his eyes maybe staying on your bare legs from your skirt for a little too long than anyone else would. you thought about interviewing him next, seeing if he would have anything more to say about the rivalry than heeseung did. 
“hey, reporter girl! jungwon wants to be interviewed next!” a boy suddenly calls out to you. you turn and see that it’s another baseball boy, and he’s pointing to a boy beside him who’s probably named jungwon. you smile at them and nod. you turn your head over your shoulder to look back at sunghoon, but he’s not there anymore. you frustratedly pout as the other captain isn’t there anymore. but make your way to the baseball players again. hopefully they will give you more information.

you groan in your desk chair, staring at the scattered papers and notes in front of you. you had spent hours going over the interviews and information you gathered from picture day, but most of it was useless. the answers you got were vague and unhelpful, leaving you with more questions than answers.
you rub your temples, trying to soothe the growing headache from your relentless efforts. the only thing you can confirm is that there is a rivalry, and everyone knows about it. but no one seems willing to spill the details. it’s like they’re all under a gag order.
you glance at the attendance sheet coach davis gave you on picture day, every name was checked off that you had interviewed– except for park sunghoon. he had disappeared before you could interview him. the field was empty before you realized that you had missed him. 
your frustration bubbles over as you huff, pushing your notebook away. this investigation was turning out to be much more challenging than you anticipated. you thought being the new sports reporter would be relatively easy, but it turns out it’s harder than you imagined. it felt like you were running in circles. 
but at the same time it makes you more determined to uncover the truth. the headline you’ll be able to release makes you excited and you know it’ll be good for your career once you graduate. but for now, you let out another groan and sink back into your chair, contemplating your next move.
the journalism office door opens and blair, the arts and culture reporter of the college, who is also your friend, walks in with a concerned look on her face once she sees you slumped in your chair. 
“are you frustrated?” she asks, setting her bag down on the desk next to you.
“very.”
blair leans against the desk, her eyes sparkling with an idea. “well, if the athletes won’t speak, maybe get information from the students.”
your eyes widen at her suggestion. “blair, you’re a genius!” you exclaim, a renewed sense of determination flooding through you. you jump up from your chair, grabbing blair by the arm.
“what—?” she starts, but you’re already on the move, scooping up your notebook and pen in one swift motion.
“come on, we’re going to get the information from the public. the people who spread the rumors,” you say, practically dragging her out of the journalism office. you’re determined to get some answers. 
you usher blair to get her phone out, recording your interaction with students as you use a makeshift microphone; your voice recorder attached to a ruler. you tell blair to start recording, you start slowly walking back, talking into the “microphone” as you introduce the video. 
“today, we are at enha university,” you speak confidently, “there is a years long feud between the hockey and baseball teams– but what is the reason for it? today we will be asking the students that go to enha university for their opinion.” 
blair stops recording and puts her phone down to smile at you, “that was good, let’s go.” 
you first head out to the main quad, and walk up to a group of students who are sprawled on the grass. “hey guys, mind if we ask you some questions for the school newspaper?” the students all nod and blair pulls out her phone to record again, with her signal, you start, “so what do you know about the feud between the baseball and hockey teams?” you ask, holding up your makeshift microphone, you shove it in the student’s faces. 
“oh, it’s wild,” one student says, eyes wide. “i heard the baseball team thinks the hockey team was behind some major equipment theft. like, they’re convinced the hockey team took their bats!”
“yeah, and the hockey team thinks the baseball team has been spreading rumors to get them disqualified from big games,” another adds.
“okay, but what’s causing them to steal equipment and try to get them banned? what started it?” you press the two of them. 
the students shrug. “don’t know,” one says.
you look at blair’s camera with a frustrated expression, then turn back to the students. “thanks,” you say bluntly before moving on.
at the library stairs, you find a couple of students taking a break. you walk up to them with blair’s phone recording and your microphone up to your lips. 
“have you heard of the baseball and hockey team rivalry?” you ask them once you’re on the stairs with them. 
“oh god, who hasn’t?” one student says, rolling their eyes.
“what have you heard?” you tilt your head and pass the ruler microphone to them. 
“i heard the hockey team once accused the baseball team of planting false reports about them to the administration.”
“and the baseball team is sure the hockey team is trying to sabotage their top players,” another student on the stairs adds.
“thanks for the info,” you say, not pressing further, and nod for blair to follow you. 
once inside the school, you decide to head to the cafeteria. since it’s lunch time, it’s extremely busy. you approach a random group of students that are sitting at a table near a window. 
“what can you guys tell me about the feud  between the hockey and baseball teams?” you ask them, moving to sit beside them at the table. 
the students take note of your microphone and blair’s phone recording before they answer with a laugh. “someone said the baseball team trashed the hockey team’s frat house during a party.”
“yeah, they like, broke furniture and some alcohol bottles or something.” 
you note the details and move on to another group of students nearby.
“what’s up with the rivalry between the baseball and hockey teams?” you ask the trio. 
“some crazy stuff,” one student says. “i heard the hockey team took the baseball team’s playbook.”
“what playbook?” you ask, confused.
“it’s this book full of all the girls they’ve hooked up with over the years,” the student explains. “apparently, the hockey team thought it’d be funny to steal it.”
you exchange a look with blair, “thanks.” 
you and blair step outside into the main quad again. you plan on going back to the journalism office to review the footage and information you and blair recorded. 
“that was definitely some progress,” blair nods at you as she scrolls through the multiple videos on her phone. 
you nod, “yeah i think the playbook rumour was a good start.” 
“right?” blair agrees excitedly, “i mean a book full of all the girls they’ve hooked up with? that’s disgusting, no wonder there’s a feud.” 
you hum, “i wonder where that playbook is now.” 
blair gives you a look like you're onto something, both of you laughing as you continue to walk. she passes you to the phone so you can see how many recordings she got of your interviews. “we sure got a lot of footage,” you start, but blair cuts you off. 
“hey, isn’t that guy on the baseball team?” she says, pointing to a guy walking toward you. you look up and see him glancing down at his phone, a baseball bag slung over his shoulder with the enha university logo.
you recognize him as jake, and you quickly shove blair’s phone into her hand. “record.”
blair starts the recording as you jog over to jake, microphone in hand. “jake, you’re on the baseball team!”
jake glances up, noticing the microphone and blair recording. he chuckles, clearly not surprised. “well, yeah.”
“how do you feel about having a rivalry with the hockey team?” you ask, trying to get straight to the point.
jake raises an eyebrow, clearly puzzled by your question. “why do you want to know?”
you dodge his question and ask, “do you know anything about a playbook?”
jake looks at you, slightly confused. “uh, no?”
“how about a party where things got destroyed?” you press.
jake shrugs, “uh, every party has something destroyed after. what’s this about, y/n?”
you sigh and tell blair to stop recording. “i’m trying to find out the reason for the rivalry between the teams,” you explain.
jake laughs. “good luck with that. it’s just one sided from the hockey team. heeseung’s a good captain.”
you give him a determined look. “what do you mean by that?”
jake chuckles and starts walking away, “see you around, y/n.”
you watch him go across the main quad, determination flooding through you as you cross your arms over your chest. 
“i’m going to find out blair, no matter how hard it takes to break these athletes down. i will find out.” 
blair nods, and links her arm through yours, “yeah, but first, let’s get lunch. i’m starving.”

you remembered how park sunghoon had skipped your interview during picture day, leaving you with only one comment from one of the captains involved with the rivalry. 
so, you decide to make your way to the hockey rink on campus. 
you’ve heard that sunghoon shows up an hour early to practice. so you think that if you find him now, alone, he’ll be more forthcoming. you figure it’s worth a shot. 
when you reach the rink, you spot him skating alone on the ice, the sound of his skates slicing through the rink echoing in the otherwise quiet space. you glance down hesitantly at the ice below you. it’s clean and shiny and hard. you had never been good at skating. the fear of falling and hitting your head was too big of a fear for you. 
but you glance over at sunghoon, who hasn’t noticed your presence yet, too enthralled by skating.  you watch as he jumps in the air, twirling. and you’re suddenly taken aback by how graceful the jump was. you thought hockey boys were aggressive and rough. you’ve seen them tackle each other on the ice all the time, body checking each other into the rink. but now, sunghoon looked delicate and soft as he glided around. 
you take one more glance at the ice below you and sigh, knowing that you’ll have to face your fear and step onto it. the story was too good to pass up because of a childhood fear. 
you take your first step on the ice and figure that it’s okay. you keep walking slowly over to where sunghoon was. as you approach sooner, almost forgetting that you were even on ice, you feel your foot slip up into the air. you feel yourself falling, but before you can reach the cold ice, an arm catches you to hold you up. 
you open your eyes, and see sunghoon’s face over yours, his arm wrapped around you. he has an annoyed expression on his face as he looks down at you. like he’s judging you for falling. 
but you’re struck by how close you are to him. his skin is as pale as the ice beneath you, and for a moment, you just stare at him, caught off guard by his striking features.
“you should be careful,” he says, his voice as cool as his demeanor.
you pull away and stand up on the ice, still uneasy. “i am careful,” you retort, trying to sound more confident than you feel.
sunghoon raises an eyebrow, his expression distant. he looks you up and down, his eyes landing on your notebook and pen in your hand. “are you here to interview me about hockey?”
you frown, feeling defensive. “uh, i don’t know anything about hockey.”
sunghoon’s curiosity piques. “why are you the sports reporter if you don’t know sports?”
your irritation flares. “look, just tell me about the rivalry between the hockey and baseball teams.”
unghoon’s lips curl into a small, enigmatic smile as he laughs for the first time. the sound catches you off guard, leaving you both confused and nervous.
“the feud that the baseball team started and is constantly complaining about? why don’t you go ask them?” he says, his tone dripping with indifference. “i’m busy.”
sunghoon starts to turn around, but you question him, “how come you’re so good at doing those spins?” 
he stops and turns to look at you over his shoulder, “i’m not good.” he starts to skate off to the other side of the rink. 
you huff, crossing your arms over your chest. park sunghoon is a real piece of work. you start to slowly turn around, your lip pulled between your teeth as you look down at your feet on the ice. you feel your heart start to pound as you try to move across the ice to get off the rink. the ice is just so slippery. you can tell it was cleaned recently. 
suddenly, you feel a firm grip around your waist, and before you can react, sunghoon scoops you up in his arms and skates swiftly over to the side of the rink. you’re shocked at how fast he moves; it’s like he’s gliding on air. you’ve heard that he’s the fastest on the ice, but now that he was skating with you, you could tell how fast he really was. he deposits you gently on the edge, where you stand, stunned.
“uh, thanks,” you manage to stammer, still trying to process what just happened.
sunghoon scoffs, giving you a quick, dismissive glance before skating back to the center of the rink. you watch him, feeling a mix of confusion and embarrassment. you turn to leave, feeling defeated and empty-handed for your report.
“hey, yn!” sunghoon’s voice calls out, making you turn around.
“yeah?” you respond, already halfway to the door. 
“why do you want to know about the rivalry anyway?” he asks, his tone oddly curious.
“because it’s my job to know,”
with that, you spin on your heel and leave the rink, leaving sunghoon to his practice. 
as you walk back to the journalism office,  your mind is a whirlwind of thoughts. park sunghoon and lee heeseung are polar opposites, and it’s no wonder they can’t stand each other. 
sunghoon is so cold like the ice he practices on. he’s distant, wrapped up in his own world. there’s a certain intensity about him, a focus that’s almost intimidating. he’s methodical and precise on the ice, every movement calculated and deliberate. he’s almost unapproachable with his piercing gaze. 
and then heeseung is warm, outgoing and easy to talk to. he’s got this effortless charm and friendliness that makes everyone around him feel at ease. he’s the guy who lights up a room just by being in it, and it’s clear he’s well-liked, even if he’s a bit of a show-off.
you wonder what might have caused such deep hatred for one another. what could it be that connects them besides their role on a sports team. they’re just too different. 
your frustration mounts as you think about how little you’ve uncovered so far. both of them are so closed off to your questions. but it doesn’t make you any less determined to get to the bottom of their feud. no matter how much time it takes. 
there’s a story here, and you’re not giving up until you’ve got it all figured out.

on friday night, coach davis insisted you attend the baseball game, claiming that it was crucial for your report. so since it was your job, you went. even though you barely understood how baseball worked. still, you found yourself in the bleachers, a notepad in hand, surrounded by other students. 
the game began, and you tried to focus on the actual game, but your eyes kept drifting to heeseung on the field. it was the first time you’d seen him without a smile on his face. his expression was serious, concentrated and his eyes never left the ball. 
you watched as heeseung sprinted across teh field. the crack of the bat echoed, and heeseung was off before anyone else, to catch the ball. you held your breath, washing as he dove and grabbed it from the air. 
the bleachers erupted in cheers, the students jumping up and down around you as sat still. they were all screaming and calling his name. heeseung stood up, his charming smile spreading across his face as he held up the ball, showing off his catch to the audience. 
amidst the chaos, you could have sworn he winked at you.

you glance down and realize you’re indeed wearing his sweater, the fabric warm and soft against your skin. you smile, a little sheepishly. “oh, thanks.”
its awkward suddenly, maybe just on your side since you have his picture behind your back without him knowing. but thankfully, heeseung is the way he is and breaks the silence. 
“want a drive home?”
“yes, please,” you smile real big at him. 
when you’re dressed again and heeseung is driving you home, the night is quiet, with only the soft hum of the car engine and the gentle music playing in the background. the city lights blur past the windows, and you find yourself staring out at them, lost in thought. under the sweater heeseung let you borrow, the photograph you took is safely tucked away, its edges pressing into your skin like a guilty reminder.

he smiles, waiting until you’re safely inside your apartment. you wave at him through the window, and he waves back before driving off into the night.
but as you close the door behind you, the emptiness settles in. the nausea in your stomach twists tighter, making you feel sick in a way that’s more than just physical. you hate this feeling—the way the guilt eats away at you, the way it taints every good moment you shared with him tonight. it’s a heavy weight, one you’re not sure how to shake off.

you exhaled slowly, sending it to your professor before closing your laptop and turning off the lamp, plunging the office into darkness. you grabbed your bag and left the office.  as you walked out into the cool night air, all you could think about was your bed—ready for the quiet, for the thoughts to finally stop swirling about both of the captains.

you’re sitting in the quiet corner of the library. it’s midday and the library is somewhat busy. though, you’re alone at your table. your mind is racing, thoughts swirling about how to move forward with your investigation.
you’ve made such a big deal out of this investigation, but now you want to stop because of a picture you found?
you’ve examined the picture more carefully whilst you’re alone. it’s not crumpled or scratched in anyway, which means heeseung cared about this picture, unlike everything else thrown away in the drawer you found it in. 
suddenly, someone sits down in the chair in front of you. 
your eyes widen when you realize who it is, which his dark black hair over his eyes and his pink lips pulled straight. 
“uh, hi?”
“hey,” sunghoon replies, his tone as cold and unreserved as ever. he leans back in the chair, crossing his arms over his chest like this is just another day.
you’re confused, to say the least. the last time you saw him things didn’t go as planned and he was exactly nice to you. so why’s he here, in front of you in a crowded library.
you close your laptop slightly, your curiosity piqued. 
“what are you doing here?” you ask, your voice coming out as reserved and cautious. 
“can’t i sit here?” sunghoon asks, his eyebrow quirking. 
you cross your own arms across your chest, your defensive side coming out. you didn’t care how hot or popular the man was in front of you; he was an asshole. 
““well, after last time, i didn’t think you’d want to,”
“what?” sunghoon’s brows furrow, his expression hardening.
you roll your eyes, the frustration from your last encounter bubbling up. “you were so awful to me last time. why would you want to sit here like nothing happened?”
sunghoon’s face changes. his shoulders slump slightly as he puts his head in his hands, not saying anything. the shift in his demeanor catches you off guard, and you’re left staring at him, waiting for him to speak. but the silence stretches, growing more awkward by the second. you don’t understand him. 
finally, you groan, tired of the tension and the weird atmosphere. you start to pack up your things, ready to escape whatever this is. but before you can finish, sunghoon reaches out and gently grabs your arm, stopping you. you look up at him, and his usual cold, detached expression is replaced with something you’ve never seen from him before—desperation.
“what is it?” you ask, your voice softening despite your earlier frustration.
sunghoon takes a deep breath, his hand dropping to his lap. “i’ve been under a lot of stress. with school, with the team... and i know it’s no excuse to be mean to you. i’m sorry.”
his words hang in the air between you, sincere and a little vulnerable. you weren’t expecting this at all, and it makes your heart soften toward him. you nod slowly, understanding that everyone has their breaking points.
“do you want to talk about it?” you ask gently, offering him a way to unload some of the weight he’s carrying.
he shakes his head, a small, almost sad smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “no, it’s fine. i just... i really am sorry. you don’t deserve to be treated like that.”
the sincerity in his voice and the look in his eyes make something inside you shift. the frustration and resentment you felt start to melt away. 
“it’s okay,” you say quietly, offering him a small smile. “i understand how stressful it can be in your position.” 
sunghoon nods, looking relieved, and for the first time, the tension between you eases. the silence that follows isn’t awkward anymore; it’s almost comforting, like a weight has been lifted.
“thanks,” he mutters, almost too softly for you to hear.
it’s silent between you in the library. both of you processing the shared moment. you think you’re starting to see park sunghoon in a different light. one that you didn’t think he had. 
“so,” you say, making your tone deliberately brighter, “you must be having a really tough week if you’re sitting in the library with me and not finding a girl to bring home tonight after the game.” 
sunghoon looks up at you, his eyes widening slightly before he laughs—a genuine, warm sound that surprises you. it’s the first time you’ve heard him laugh, and it catches you off guard how much you like it. it’s not the cold, sarcastic laugh you’ve heard before. 
“is that what you think of me?” he asks, still chuckling, his mood noticeably lighter.
“oh, come on,” you tease, grinning. “you have a bit of a reputation, you know.”
sunghoon shakes his head, still smiling. “maybe i should work on changing that, then.”
“might not be a bad idea since just, everyone on campus knows about it,” you reply, playfully nudging his foot under the table.
sunghoon shrugs, “i don’t care what everyone else thinks of me,” his voice softer, “i only care what you think about me.”
you tilt your head to the side at his answer. his soft smile lingers on his face and with the way he’s looking at you now, you think that you’re seeing a side of park sunghoon that not everyone gets to see. you aren’t sure how to respond to him. you aren’t sure what he wants from you. 
“anyways,” sunghoon shakes his head at your lack of answer, “how about i walk you to class?” 
you nod with a smile, still partially processing his words, “sure!” 
you start to gather your things, ready to leave the library with him. you sling your bag over your shoulder, something slips out and lands on the floor by sunghoon’s feet. sunghoon’s gaze drops to the ground, and his expression freezes when he sees what it is.
the picture of him and heeseung—the one you stole from heeseung’s room—stares up at both of you from the floor.
his previously soft, almost content expression hardens in an instant. his eyes darken with a mix of anger and confusion. he bends down, snatching the picture off the ground before you can react.
“where did you get this?” his voice is low, but there’s an edge to it that makes your stomach twist.
you swallow, trying to keep your voice steady as you admit, “uh, heeseung’s bedroom…”
sunghoon’s expression shifts from confusion to something sharper, more painful. his eyes narrow into slits, “you fucked heeseung?”
the volume of his voice rises with each word, drawing the attention of the students around you. the quiet library becomes suddenly too loud with the whispers and curious stares directed your way. you feel the heat rising in your cheeks as you snatch the picture out of his hand, your frustration boiling over. why would he automatically assume that you had sex with heeseung anyways? 
“why do you care who i get intimate with?” you shoot back, your own voice louder than you intended. “why do you only care what i think of you?”
sunghoon’s jaw clenches, his hands curling into fists at his sides. “i don’t!” he snaps, but the way his voice wavers makes you doubt him.
“then what is it?”
for a moment, he looks like he’s about to say something—something important, something real—but then he shakes his head, the anger in his eyes cooling to something else.
“nothing, just nothing, y/n.” his voice is quieter now, more defeated. “have fun with your investigation.”
he turns on his heel and storms out of the library, leaving you standing there, alone with the picture clutched in your hand and the weight of everyone’s eyes on you.
your heart races, but all you can think about is the look on sunghoon’s face right before he left—how hurt he looked, how quickly his mood changed the moment he saw the picture. 
part of you wants to chase after him, to demand answers, to figure out why he cares so much, but the other part of you just wants to get out of there, away from all the curious stares.

you toss and turn all night, your mind racing with thoughts of sunghoon and heeseung. no matter how hard you try, you can’t shake the image of sunghoon’s hurt and angry face from your mind. it’s a look you never thought you would see on his usual cool and collected face. it clings to you, gnawing at your conscience. you wonder if you liked it more when sunghoon didn’t show any feelings towards you at all and remained as cold and mysterious as ever. 
you start thinking about heeseung, too—how sweet he was, how he took care of you after, how you felt safe in his arms. but then your thoughts twist, imagining the look on his face if he ever found out you stole that picture from his room. how betrayed he’d feel, how that charming smile of his would disappear.
you sigh, sitting up in bed as the weight of your actions presses down on your chest. the more you think about it, the more you realize you can’t just let this go. you have to do something, anything, to make this right.
so you swing your legs over the side of the bed and grab the picture from your bag. 
you know the one place lee heeseung would be at this early in the morning; the baseball diamond. 
you slip on a hoodie and some sneakers, not bothering to change out of your pajamas and head out into the cool, early morning. the air is crisp, a sharp contrast to the warmth of your bed. 
when you finally reach the baseball diamond, you see heeseung’s figure against the light sky. you hesitate for a moment before stepping closer, clutching the picture in your hand. you start to rethink your actions and the words you practiced to say to him over and over again.
“y/n?” his voice suddenly calls out to you from across the field.
you glance up at him, and force a smile on your face and start to approach him. “hey,”
“hi,” he gleams at you, happy as ever. “what’re you doing here? it’s so early.” 
you shrug and look down at your shoes, slightly soaked from the morning dew. 
“y/n?” heeseung questions you, his hand reaching down to lift your chin back up so you’re looking at him. his face is contorted into concern. “what’s wrong?” 
you sigh and know that lee heeseung can read you like a book. so you take the picture from behind your back and give it to him without a word. 
you can tell by his face that he’s confused. the way he gently takes the picture and looks at it. 
“how… did you get this?” 
you bite your lip at the question you had hoped he wouldn’t have asked, but reluctantly tell him the truth. 
“from your room, when you were in the bathroom.” 
heeseung only nods, his eyes still stuck on the picture before him. so you continue with your apology. 
“i’m so sorry heeseung, i know it was wrong of me. i felt guilty as soon as i took it. i just– i get so caught up in reporting sometimes that i don’t think of the people that i’m reporting ons feelings. so, i’m sorry.” 
heeseung smiles again, and it surprises you, really. you thought he would react similar to how sunghoon reacted when he saw the picture. but then again, you know how different sunghoon and heeseung are. polar opposites. 
“it’s alright y/n.” heeseung nods, and you let out a sigh. “thanks for telling me the truth, i appreciate it.” 
“no, of course. it was wrong of me to take it without your permission.” 
“it’s okay, i guess i didn’t realize how important this investigation was to you.” 
suddenly there’s a scoff from behind you, causing both you and heeseung to glance back in surprise. 
there, stands park sunghoon. his face is held in an annoyed glare as he looks at the small distance that you and heeseung are standing at. 
“i guess you didn’t realize how important the investigation was to y/n.” sunghoon chuckles, “but i did. i knew it when she sucked me off to get information.” 
your jaw drops at sunghoon’s admission. you can’t believe he would say this in front of heeseung. 
you hesitantly turn to look at heeseung, who’s poor face is contorted into confusion as he glances between you and sunghoon, his rival. 
“is that true, y/n?” heeseung asks you, his voice softer and less cruel sounding than sunghoon’s. 
you can barely look at him, but you nod, silently. you feel ashamed for playing both of them, wanting to keep it a secret from one another that you had hooked up with both of them. 
you feel like you can’t be angry at anyone but yourself. 
heeseung brushes a hand through his hair, stressed. you think he’s going to cuss you out, but instead, he turns and looks at sunghoon. 
“why’re you here anyways, sunghoon? you never step foot onto the field.” heeseung’s voice is angrier now. 
sunghoon steps forward, his shoes brushing against the aggregate. “i came to let you know that even if you’re hooking up with y/n– that,” sunghoon hesitates as he looks at you,”that, i like her too, so.” 
your eyes widen in shock at sunghoon’s words. you never would have thought that park sunghoon would have liked you. you start to question all of his previous intentions with you. you had thought he hated you, but really, he had liked you? 
heeseung on the other hand groans, his body is unable to stay still as he steps around in disbelief. he angrily turns to sunghoon, “god this is so like you, sunghoon!” 
“what the fuck does that mean?” sunghoon barks back. 
“you always want what you can’t have sunghoon. you see something good and suddenly you want it too.” 
sunghoon’s jaw clenches and he steps forward too so him and heeseung are only a few inches apart. “are you forgetting that y/n hooked up with me first? god, this is so like you, hee.” 
you’re standing right in the middle of them, scared for both of them. upset at yourself for making them this angry at each other. 
heeseung chuckles, “yeah? and what am i like then?”
“you always have to make everything about you! lee heeseung, the golden boy, has to be the centre of attention all the time!” 
heeseung seems like he can’t believe what he’s hearing, “what the fuck are you talking about?” 
“you’re making this about you when it has nothing to do with you! this only involves me and y/n.” 
heeseung turns to you, his expression softening slightly as he meets your eyes. “y/n, do you really want to get caught up in this? in whatever the hell sunghoon is trying to pull?”
sunghoon steps forward, his voice lowering but still laced with tension. “y/n, i know i haven’t been the best to you, but i’m being honest now. i like you, and i didn’t know how to deal with my feelings for you before.” 
you swallow hard, feeling the weight of their gazes on you. this is too much, too fast. you’re not even sure how you feel about sunghoon’s confession, or how this affects whatever’s going on with heeseung.
“i… i don’t know what to say,” you admit, your voice barely above a whisper.
sunghoon looks at you with an intensity that sends shivers down your spine. “just tell me if you feel anything for me, y/n. because if you do, then maybe we can figure this out.”
heeseung crosses his arms, his expression guarded as he waits for your response. “and what about me, y/n? where do i fit into this?”
you feel like you’re being torn in two different directions. the two boys in front of you are completely different, but you feel an attraction to both of them whether you like it or not. you don’t know which direction would be best for you and it wouldn’t hurt the other. 
“i… i need time to think,” you finally say, your voice trembling. “this is all just�� a lot.”
sunghoon’s shoulders slump slightly, but he nods, understanding. “okay. take your time, y/n. but just know that i’m serious about this.”
heeseung looks at you for a long moment before sighing. “yeah, take your time. we’ll figure this out.”
the silence that follows is thick with unspoken emotions, and you feel the need to get away, to clear your head. you turn and start to walk away, leaving the two of them on the baseball diamond alone. 
as you walk, you can’t help but feel the weight of their confessions pressing down on you.

heeseung always seems to know when you’re struggling with homework. he shows up when you least expect it and slides into the seat beside you, ready to help you with whatever you’re struggling with. he places his neatly organized notes on the table in front of you. 
“here, these might help.” he says, his tone casual, but there’s that familiar warmth in his eyes that makes your chest tighten. he doesn’t mind taking the next hour walking you through the material, even though he’s late for his next class. 
when you forgot your money on your kitchen table for lunch, you sit alone in the cafeteria, trying to distract yourself from the hunger rumbling in your stomach as you focus on your homework. a sandwich suddenly appears beside your book. you glance up and see sunghoon, a small smile playing on his lips. 
“you need to eat,” he says, his voice soft but firm. it’s a simple gesture, but it means the world to you in that moment, you really were so hungry. 
when you take a bite, he smiles and heads back over to the table he was previously sitting at with his friends, he doesn’t stop glancing over at you to make sure you’ve eaten the whole thing until you’re throwing the empty wrapper into the trash can.

suddenly, there’s a noise at the door, followed by grunting and muffled yelling. you glance up, confused, just in time to see the door burst open and both sunghoon and heeseung stumble into the office, each carrying two drinks. they’re both shoving at each other, jostling for space as they try to make it inside.
“stop! what’re you doing? they’re gonna spill!” you shout, standing up from your desk, your heart racing as you watch them struggle.
they both freeze when they see you, eyes wide like two kids caught in the act. for a moment, the room is silent, and then they both start talking at once.
“i was just bringing you a drink because i know how hard you work,” heeseung says, holding up his drink like it’s a peace offering.
“no, i was bringing you a drink,” sunghoon interrupts, his tone competitive.
heeseung scoffs, “please, she likes peach, not strawberry.” he glances towards sunghoon’s drink. 
“what? you obviously don’t know her, she loves strawberry.” 
they start bickering, each one trying to convince each other that their drink is the one you’d prefer. you feel your head start to pound, their voices overlapping and filling the small office space with tension.
“enough!” you finally shout, cutting them off mid-argument. they both go quiet, staring at you with wide eyes. you take a deep breath, trying to calm the frustration bubbling up inside you.
“i appreciate the gestures, i really do,” you start, your voice softer now, but firm. “but i need time to sort out my feelings, and i can’t do that if you’re both around me all the time. it’s… it’s too much.”
they both look at you, guilt flickering across their faces. they exchange a glance, then nod, understanding in their eyes. “sorry,” they both mumble at the same time, looking down at the drinks in their hands.

Riddle Rosehearts leaves you with an appreciation for learning, a strong sense of awe at the bookshelves lining the walls of NRC’s library. He leaves you with a pen, tucked at the bottom of your backpack that you forget about until a late night study session. You find it and giggle, remembering the time he gave it to you when yours ran out of ink, and you begin to take notes with the red-rose ink.
Trey Clover leaves you with a sense of nurture. You pick up cues from people that you never would have seen before and know exactly how to act, and it isn’t until you find yourself “babying” Ace that you step back and laugh. Of course Trey rubbed off on you, he always was taking care of you with nobody to help out him.
Cater Diamond leaves you with extensive knowledge of camera angles. When you’re taking pictures with your friends or just you, it's like you know exactly which filter would look best with every shot. Sometimes you’ll stumble upon a filter you only ever used on his pics, and you’re filled with a bittersweet happiness. Simple photo editing holds so many memories, and you can only hope he’s making new ones, too.
Deuce Spade leaves you with a motivation to protect yourself. When you started dating him all that time ago, he insisted on giving you some form of self defense lessons just so you could protect yourself. He made you more confident, even if he never knew it. You’ll always be thankful for the way he unknowingly made you stand up straighter, like you were proud to be yourself.
Ace Trappola leaves you with a lighter soul. He’s always been a goofy person, and you know full well that he’s never changed. He made you way more optimistic just by dealing with things the way he did, always being true to his heart no matter who he was speaking to. You always admired that about him, and it made you feel like you could be more like yourself even when he wasn’t there anymore.
Leona Kingscholar leaves you with a piece of his pride. He always told you to keep your head up especially when you’re scared half to death. You find yourself using his advice every time you face a situation you’d rather not be in, and slowly conquer everything that used to freak you out. You finally glow with the pride that you know he would have been so proud of if he was still with you, but you’re starting to think that maybe he’s proud of you anyway.
Ruggie Bucchi leaves you with a determination to constantly fight for better. You need to make the best of your circumstances, being transported to a world where you’re powerless with nothing but the shirt on your back. He’s taught you to be crafty and resourceful, and to never let yourself be taken advantage of. You can’t thank him enough...and really, you can’t anymore, but that’s okay.
Jack Howl leaves a carefully planned school year in his wake. You find yourself planning out your day, little events scribbled into your calendar and schedules created in the margins of your notebook. Jack had always reminded you of things and you wanted to let him know how much you valued his efforts to keep you on track, so you started writing down his schedules too. It isn’t until you flip back through your notebook to find older notes that you see “Track and Field Meet - 5pm” and feel a pang in your heart.
Azul Ashengrotto leaves you with a ton of home-economics knowledge. Long after you two have broken up, you still find yourself checking on your monthly expenses and tweaking your meal plans, and it isn’t until you’re laying in bed one night that you realize you wouldn’t be nearly as efficient as you are now if it wasn’t for your previous sweetheart.
Jade Leech leaves you with a fascination for the world around you. He took things that you didn’t think twice about and twisted them into beautiful sights, and you never quite looked at them the same way. It’s not a bad thing, it’s quite the opposite, actually. Your world has never been more beautiful, even if the boy that opened your eyes isn’t there to see it with you.
Floyd Leech leaves you with a restless need to do something. Sometimes, during your down time, you’ll set down your phone and start pacing around your room, wondering why your legs just can’t seem to sit still. Then something clicks—Floyd used to barge into your dorm and dance with you at random intervals, but he doesn’t do that as much anymore. Laughing to yourself, you slip on a coat and decide to take a walk—anything to get the fidgeting out of your system.
Kalim Al-Asim leaves you with a brighter smile and higher patience. You’d always had to chase after him on whatever misadventure he decided to go on that day, apologizing to Jamil with a wobbly smile on your face once the day was done. Kalim never failed to make things brighter, even your breakup. You two still hang out sometimes, but you aren’t as close as you used to be, even if the memories of your adventures remain.
Jamil Viper leaves you with some of his best recipes. It may seem silly or insignificant to anyone else, but you know exactly how much time he spent cooking and baking for Kalim and his entire dorm on a daily basis. He even found time to bring you and his club snacks occasionally. You still know how to make his favorite curry, and if a recipe calls for dates you scratch them out from the ingredients out of habit.
Vil Schoenheit leaves you feeling beautiful. He never once looked at you wrong, whether you had just woken up or had gotten into another mud fight with Grim or if you were wearing a swimsuit. There was nothing but love in his gaze and a reminder to keep your head up on his tongue, because in his eyes you were precious. Because to Vil, you were unapologetically beautiful (and you still are. You always will be.)
Rook Hunt leaves you with an eye for detail. After picking up on everything you did and telling you about every habit he examined, you became keenly aware of your habits and how to manage them. You’re far more observant when it comes to your own self care, and you know you wouldn’t be as diligent if it wasn’t for the insistence of your ex.
Epel Felmier leaves you with a love for nature. You’re hyper aware of how long it takes apple trees to grow and what you can do to help them along. You whisper to your plants now and sing little songs to them and you water them. Your friends have even started coming to you for pointers, and despite the fact that Epel isn’t your partner anymore, you refer them to him automatically.
Idia Shroud leaves you with an absurd amount of techy knowledge. With all the gadgets Ramshackle has because of him, you’re thankful he took the time to explain how they worked. The gifts he made for you almost make the fact that he had to end things with you because of his...family business and that you’ll likely never see him again easier to swallow.
Malleus Draconia leaves you with a greater love for the night sky. You had a person to share the sight of the stars with for once, someone who loved looking up at them just as much as you did. You can still feel the chill of his hand over yours as he reached for it, holding it like you were the most precious treasure of all. Now, when you look up at the stars, you feel a pain of longing in your chest. You miss him.
Lilia Vanrouge leaves you with knowledge of the worlds you’ll never see. You find yourself drawing parallels between this world, your world, and the mystical places Lilia used to talk about. Even Trein has been impressed by the knowledge you’ve displayed in his essays despite not being from this world, and you can only force a laugh.
Silver leaves you with a safety net, something you can use to calm down whenever. His childhood lullaby. He sang it for you time and time again when you were having trouble sleeping in an unfamiliar place when your anxiety got a bit too much. Whenever you have a nightmare now, you find yourself humming the old Briar Valley tune, in hopes that it will give you some comfort.
Sebek Zigvolt leaves you with a greater appreciation for reading (and a pile of bookmarks tucked in an old leather box he presented when he started “courting” you.) You still find yourself exiting Ramshackle on the weekends, and heading to that very same tree you two used to read under. There’s a part of you that wants to look for him, to check and see if he’s also heading to your tree, but you don’t.

Mystreet AU where all of the Phoenix Drop High staff are the divine warriors. MCD!Aphmau is a reincarnation of the last Irene, and she restarted the world when the final battle against Shad was going poorly, and Mystreet was created instead, with MCD!Aphmau being reincarnated into Mystreet!Aphmau. The other Divine Warriors (including the first Irene), were recycled into this school with no powers and new lives, completely powerless to the universal change that Aphmau has made. So now they’re forced to adapt to this new world and blend in, whether they like it or not, effectively trapped in this school until they can figure out what the hell happened, and somehow undo it. They all have retained most or all of their memories from their previous life. This makes staff meetings incredibly awkward
Shad is the principal, he runs this school very begrudgingly. He hates his job, but hey, he was able to lead an army in Hell! How much harder can leading highschoolers be?
Irene is the school counselor. The only one. She still has no emotions. This makes her not very successful at her job, but hey, she tries. The students are theorizing that she and the principal are divorced, or exes in some way or another, because of the incredibly grudge-filled looks they keep giving each other. They are forced to work in vague proximity with one another, and no one is enjoying it. They have to maintain workplace diplomacy and after learning what kind of world Shad is trapped in now, he realizes that he can’t actually kill her unless he wants to be arrested and thrown in jail forever. Which would suck ass, because he’s pretty certain the source of their new predicament is somewhere in this school alongside them, and if he wants any luck at getting out, he’s going to have to play along.
Irene and Shad are at least able to remain thinly diplomatic with one another. Shad and Esmund, however—never in a million years will they be civil with one another. They have gotten in very confusing shouting matches in front of the kids before. And yet Esmund never gets fired, (…i don’t think Shad has figured out that he can do that yet…) so the kids start to spread rumors that Esmund is hooking up with or used to be hooking up with the principal. Esmund and Shad find out, and all of the students get in ungodly amounts of trouble for this.
Enki tried to reconnect with his old friend Shad at some point. It didn’t go well. He left his office as quickly as he came in at the first sight of his glare.
It becomes surprisingly easy (and very existential crisis-inducing) to finally be able to tell Aphmau and Irene apart when they’re two entirely separate people standing in the same room. Shad realizes that this Aphmau is probably what caused this, but problem 1. She doesn’t remember a damn thing and is therefore extremely unhelpful, and problem 2. That’s A Child. That’s A Literal Actual Child. That’s some 13yo baby that is entirely innocent and bright-eyed and oblivious to anything and everything that went down in her past lives. And in my mind, Shad has a soft spot for children. Like, a HUGE soft spot, because he used to be a father and his daughter meant the world to him. He’d do anything to get her back and protect her from all the horrors that he could not save her from. Thats his entire villain motivation. Thats the entire reason why he hates Irene and becomes The Shadow Lord and raises an army and pillages the world and everything else. The Shad in my head would be physically incapable of hurting a child.
So I can see Shad calling Aphmau into his office very early in the first semester, ready to confront her and duel all over again…only to realize that, no, this is an separate, innocent child who remembers nothing and might even be an entirely different reincarnation of who she was before. Her memories might even be wiped, completely inaccessible and gone forever. He has an existential crisis, awkwardly apologizes and plays it off as some sort of joke, asks if she needs anything (putting back on his “I’m a normal human being” mask). She says she needs directions to her classes, so he scrounges up a random map and hands it to her and sends her off. He re-evaluates everything he’s known for the past 900 years.
Shad becoming strangely protective of 13yo Aphmau,,, this is just some kid,, he’s forced to re-evaluate everything and adjusts how he sees his students. From “oh good a new army I’m gonna have to mold from scratch /sarc” to “i…i have gone from zero children…to thousands…. thousands of children put under my care…i need to protect all of them at once” man goes mega mother hen mode, especially since his dangerous traitorous ex-wife is in the same building as them, he definitely sees her and the other divine warriors as threats to his kids.
Irene bringing Aphmau into her office as well, but she approaches things very differently from Shad. She cuts straight to the chase, and tells Aphmau she needs to remember. She’s done something terrible, and needs to reverse it and put the world back in order. She needs to remember her old life and become the newest Irene, take on all the power and the responsibility that being a Goddess entails, and set everything right. 13yo Aphmau freaks out, confused and lost. Irene lays the pressure on hard, and keeps pushing when Aphmau insists that she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Shad opens the door, sensing she was here with her, and looks like he’s doing everything in his power to hold himself back from punching her square in the face. They have a very terse, carefully worded micro-argument, and Shad insists Aphmau must return to her classes, her education is more important than anything Irene has to stay to her. He gets very protective of her and basically professional-business-talk tells her to fuck right off and never speak to her again. Aphmau is still confused. He ushers her out, and awkwardly asks if she’s alright. She says…i…think…so???? What just happened??? Shad tells her to be careful around that woman, and don’t believe a word she says. She’s full of lies, anyway. Aphmau’s like. you mean the school counselor???????? It’s a very strange day for Aphmau.

A thing that bothers me about postcanon Xiyaos is that they tend to want to be fixit Xiyaos and in the process not only make it weird but also erase a lot of the appeal of postcanon Xiyao in general. Like I understand why people want to write LXC as purely regretful and oh how I could have killed that guy he was all that mattered in the world but like. He wasn't?
Sorry to say this but as much as Xiyao-Wangxian parallels real and the world and universe a lot of the tragedy is in how Xiyao were never ever going to be able to prioritize like Wangxian were bc Xiyao cannot extricate what they want personally from what they want ideologically. And just saying that JGY's death undoes this in LXC is a) boring b) untrue to the character and c) honestly kind of cringe from a moral evaluation perspective? Yes the thing is in the narrative of MDZS the kind of priorities Xiyao have are futile, because MDZS is about the futility and arrogance of those priorities, and that's why Xiyao are never going to survive MDZS,– and I would certainly say they're misguided and mixed up with awful obligation nonsense, but they're not in fact bad priorities or stupid considerations to have on a grander scale and something focusing on resolving those issues has to expand from MDZS's themes and answer not "what if they simply went Wangxian 2 about it" but "given that they are not and can never be Wangxian and Wangxian happy ending doesn't work for them what kind of story DOES Xiyao happy ending happen in"
And first thing second: a lot of these answers tend to do the thing where their answer is "Xiyao at age 20 was Xiyao happy ending" which is again not only a boring answer but kind of a shitty one! First of all no the fuck it wasn't, otherwise they wouldn't have done all that; second of all Oh so you claim you want a-Yao happy ending and forgive him all his crimes but the only form you want him in is one that in some sense hasn't committed what you perceived as the worst of his crimes yet? The only form you want him in is Meng Yao who does your laundry and cries about needing your support and is only relieved, not angry, not resentful, who's powerless and Yet To Be Corrupted? You want him untainted and want a medal for having a different perception of what "tainted" means? That's what killed him the first time around! Nothing has changed! Xichen-ge, look out!
Fuck that shit!!! Reckon with his crimes! Reckon with the fact that LXC has genuine reason to distrust him and vice versa! They have genuine moral differences and circumstantial disparities and personal-moral grievances with each other no shallower than Nieyao do! Give Jin Guangyao his power and reckon with the things he did for and with it and figure out how they're going to live with that!! You wanna be a Jin Guangyao apologist? START APOLOGIZING
And fucking frankly Lan Xichen has some damn apologizing to do too!! A thing not enough of this talks about is how privilege-blind he is and how he never actually understands JGY's circumstances or the depth of his plight; MDZS if fucking anything asks us to sit with the fact that the world they live in is so cruel as to make those motives to do genuinely horrible inexcusable things legitimate by asking NMJ and LXC to sit with that and both NMJ and LXC fail to do so in turn bc they can't accept that about their society (and tragically even as he is proof positive of that neither can JGY!!!!!!)!!!!!
And the fixation on pre-Crimes Meng Yao is honestly just kind of fucked! It's such an unhinged idea that you should chase not just the lover but the shape of the love you had when you were literally barely out of your teens as life-defining! Not to overestimate LXC's ability to Get Over It, because I do believe that he kind of never does, but it's just so miserable both on the ~kinda fetishizing this dubiously extant Innocence (ew!!!) front but also on the front of like , and you're going to make this too into an obligation for a character defined and crushed by his obligations, and assume this obligation eclipses literally everything and everyone else he cares about??? Miserable! Amatonormative! Literal decades have passed and you're going to say all that character development for both of them didn't happen? For the sake of The One nonsense? I know we're writing fic for a novel where the main couple are Like That and again I'm writing this whole thing because frankly I like postcanon Xiyao I am attached and I am rooting for postcanon Xiyao to get together very easily!! But even Wangxian are absolutely changed by the 20 years and they are resolving ! The problems ! That prevented them from having a relationship before ! It's a whole thing whatever whatever
TL;DR: You are all so amatonormative + make Lan Xichen worse + free my man JGY he did all that shit but free him anyway + in MY postcanon TGCFlike they're divorced

Hi there, anon.
I don’t know if it is exactly “dislike” what I feel for Naruto. I think it is more like disappointment. I don’t want to bore you, since this has been stated so many times before by people way more eloquent than me. But, in summary, Naruto had the opportunity to meet many victims of the Shinobi system and Konoha in particular, and he merely dismissed them with what turned out to be empty promises in the end. I can’t stand his “friendship will solve everything” approach. Or his strategy of talking people into giving up their very legitimate rage just in exchange of his happy words, while justice is never served and nothing really changes in the end.
I can’t stand that he just expects people to endure, give up and trust him. I don’t hold it against him if he was naïve during his youth, if he couldn’t understand Sasuke’s legit wrath towards Konoha or if he failed to identify his heroes as the genocidal criminals that they were in reality. But I expected more (well, something) from the adult man that became Hokage. You know, it is fine if a child dreams about becoming ninja ruler to gain popularity, but an adult should have deeper goals.
I don’t think Naruto and Itachi are in the same dimension to be fairly compared. You don’t hold a random person to the same standards as a figure of authority. Let alone a powerless child and an adult with political power. You will never see me defending what Itachi did. Yes, he murdered his family, there is no denying that, there is no way we can pretend his decisions were right. He was a 13 year-old child, brainwashed, groomed, burdened with too many responsibilities, traumatized by war and trained only on violence, convinced he could trust nobody. He did not decide to kill his family on a whim, he was threatened with the death of his baby brother. And yes, with a sane mind, from a situation of safety, we might think of other choices he should have followed. Of course. But this was not the case for him.
He was a proud disciple of the will of fire. There is no doubt about that. Still, he was ready to betray Konoha and let hell break lose if something were to happen to his brother. Still, he never idolized the kage or any of Konoha’s leaders the way Naruto did. He was not trying to be popular or gain any position of power or privilege from his actions. In his distorted, disturbed mind, all he wanted to do was to save his brother, to save people, to avoid more violence. Yes, it makes no sense to execute a genocide to avoid casualties. Still, that was, canonically, the way he reasoned. He was used by Konoha and he never got any personal benefit for what he did. It is very different, you know, defending an ideology because it benefits you in your position of privilege, and defending an ideology because you were brainwashed into doing so to facilitate your own oppression. The first one is a perpetrator and the second one is a victim. And I can’t see Itachi as anything other than a victim from the Shinobi system and Konoha. A victim of the people whose paintings are hanging from Naruto’s Hokage office, by the way… How can I blame the child that was coerced into doing the dirty job by the government, instead of the government that ordered him to do so and benefited from it?
What Itachi did was deranged and cruel, and he did that instigated by the government of Konoha. Since this is so obviously monstrous and horrifying, how come this was not acknowledged by dear ball-of-sunshine Hokage, like, ever? How come this was all swept under the rug, how come the enabler of the massacre is still respected and glorified?

My personal take on the tsukasa + toya dynamic is that like. Tsukasa helped toya a lot by giving him the familial warmth & unwavering support that he was not getting from his own family & encouraged toya to do what HE wanted to do with his own life instead of following what his dad wanted when he didn’t enjoy it, as well as kinda being toya’s only source of normalcy and activities outside of the piano as a kid. It’s not a stretch to say that Tsukasa changed Toya’s life for the better (causing him to meet Akito, discover what he’s actually passionate about, meet VBS, actually communicate with and stand up to his dad) and saved him from a future he would hate, it’s literally stated by Toya. Multiple times. & tsukasa still continues to be a huge supporter of toya and does his best to care for him. This stuff is made obvious over and over again -

- but toya also helped tsukasa a lot when they were kids too, even if it’s a bit less obvious (only stated outright in one card story iirc). Toya mentions not actually seeing Saki a lot when he was younger, as she was in and out of the hospital

So it was typically just him and Tsukasa. Tsukasa’s entire dream in life was sparked by seeing how happy a play made saki, and his strange (said fondly) personality in the present day is because he was constantly trying to make her happy with shows/acting when they were kids. Realized it cheered saki up when he put on the Future World Star personality -> constantly acting/emulating the actors he saw on stage or on tv to make saki (and later toya) happy at a formative age -> it gets baked into his personality -> now it’s not even an act it’s just how he is. It’s incurable. (Not a bad thing, just something that explains why he’s such a freak)

A large part of tsukasa’s identity is also being a big brother, which is made really difficult when you’re separated from your little sister constantly, she’s often suffering and miserable, and there’s nothing you can do to help her. As he mentions frequently, her happiness is a priority for him (sorry you’re gonna have to trust me on that one if you for some reason doubt that. Image limit. You understand. One example of many is in one of Saki’s birthday cards.)
And as hard as it was for Tsukasa to be powerless in that situation, it was way harder for Saki, because she was the one in pain/seriously ill/hospitalized throughout a large portion of her childhood. She mentions that she forced herself not to cry in front Tsukasa as a kid so he wouldn’t be upset (doll festival), and while it was happy tears in that situation it’s a safe bet that she tried to do it with any negative emotions too - but she was also suffering & acting happy all the time in that situation would be impossible for an adult, let alone a small child.

Tsukasa couldn’t help Saki, but he could help Toya, and through that he was able to help himself/feel a little better. He could cheer Saki up, but that was about the extent of what he could do - he couldn’t stay in the hospital with her or ease her pain or take away her illness. Toya needed a friend/older brother figure/escape from his dad, which Tsukasa actually could provide. I feel like there was definitely some transference there where Tsukasa (unconsciously) just took all the big brotherisms he couldn’t do with Saki and redirected them towards Toya. Which, again, isn’t a bad thing, because he *was* helping toya through this, they formed a genuine strong bond, and it helped him deal with his emotions. + saki got a bonus brother to play with when she was home.
I think people want to water their relationship down to just “haha tsukasa adopts people as his siblings” which isn’t even true* and ignores the very specific set of circumstances that led to Tsukasa considering Toya his younger brother, and the circumstances that led to Toya seeing Tsukasa as an older brother figure, as well as the fact that they’ve known each other for like a decade at this point AND the fact that their parents are close friends.
Their relationship is so strong because it is built off of them both helping each other, not because Tsukasa randomly saw a sad kid and went “you’re my brother now.” Which is also why I’m not a fan of [x random character] is a tenma.** Plus, does saki’s relationship with that character not also matter? Toya’s relationship with Saki is a pretty big part of why he’s considered a part of the family***, even if he’s not as close to her as he is to tsukasa.
*In Tsukasa’s head a star is a good big brother and given that both of those things are deeply entrenched in his personality, he mother hens his friends & does his best to act like a responsible and reliable person towards everyone. As I’ve mentioned before, Wxs KAITO is a reflection of Tsukasa’s ideal self (reliable big brother/leader figure) - nobody says KAITO is adopting siblings left and right (wrt the other vocaloids/wxs). Notably, irrc, wxs KAITO & normal KAITO both desire to be seen as a reliable big brother figure by others, but as a general thing and not a “this guy is literally my brother” thing. Tsukasa is the same situation. He likes to provide a good example for his juniors because that’s what he believes a star should do, which is also why he gets so irritated about Rui “tarnishing his reputation” whenever they get in trouble, and what prompted him to join the disciplinary committee in his third year after hearing underclassmen be like wow the 1-2 oddball finish are so wacky & crazy. Acting like a big brother =/= literally adopting people as siblings.
** you do you though if you enjoy those head canons more power to you. It’s just not my thing (known canon purist).

PLS ELABORATE ON THIS [the theory on which eggs fit which sins]
OKAY BUCKLE UP ANON!!!! This is straight up tin foil hat territory, i'm just like manifesting from nothing because it is incredibly fun in my mind
For this to make a little of sense i'm going to consider Purgatory as my catholic school taught me- A place where the sinners go to repent to their sins, either for all of eternity, if the sins are too big or too terrible, or until they have been forgiven and i'm taking Dante's inferno as my guideline on how this whole thing operates.
I'm also going with the theory that Black Cucurucho was the one responsible for taking the eggs/scaring them away, maybe to make them vulnerable and fall on his trap, is my personal theory that the Black Cucurucho is literally the anti-Federation, as in order versus chaos and as such he is looking to destroy everything the Federation is building and using the egg's to do so (and also Cellbit!!! If it's not the Rebels giving him the information i bet on Black Cucurucho more than the Feds themselves).
So, basically: The eggs get kidnapped by this new strange force (not evil per say, not more than the Federation itself, but less interested in pretending not to be, like the Anfitrião in Ordem Paranormal) and they get stuck in Purgatory, who is made by 9th circles, divided by the type of sinners they are set to punish. The tickets are the passage to get into the circles, Virgil acted as Dante's guide in this case the train will be responsible for taking them from one circle (island) to the next IF they manage to complete whatever task will be set in their way.
I believe the placement of each egg (in my delulu head) has less to do with their own sins, as the Black Cucurucho is not really interested in them but rather in the suffering he can inflict on the parents using them, but in the mortal flaw he sees on their parents.
Chayenne i would put being stuck in the 1st circle, Limbo. It's the less worse of the nine as it is the place where the unbaptized and virtuous pagan stay, endlessly walking in eternal darkness.
Why you ask me?
Well Chayenne IS the son of the Angel of Death. His other father is also a being blessed by death (or cursed with life, your pick). He worships the Blood God. He is dear to the Goddess of Death herself.
What's more pagan than that?
Besides Chayenne IS virtuous himself, he is a warrior, devout to the Blood God however not for bloodlust, but for the desire of protecting those he loves and cherishes. Little Chayenne, walking endlessly searching for his siblings, praying to his fathers' goddesses to shine a light, to show him the way, to protect his siblings, but receiving nothing back as the goddesses is forbidden from interfering with the living, even the ones toying the line into her realm.
I actually changed my mind and we are putting Tallulah in the 2nd circle, Luxury. Now, we about to play loose with the definition of luxury here as this is the circle where the damned are tormented with strong winds that drag them through hell, i'm focusing not on Luxury as a carnal sin, but rather the element of desire.
And for this we are going to consider Wilbur as the parent being punished, not Philza.
Wilbur who left for fame.
Wilbur who left for months and months and months. Who lusted for the world, who wanted to be known, who wanted to be adored, who lusted after a life of his dreams.
Wilbur who in his lust for the world forgot the one person who always considered him her whole world.
Tallulah lusting after safety, lusting for a place to belong, lusting to leave a mark in the world so that it doesn't forget her, trying to grab onto anything to prove her worth and her value but now being stuck in those winds. dragged without a destination, powerless and alone.
Pomme is then in the 3rd circle, Gluttony. The 3rd circle is the circle for those who were gluttons, who over indulged, are now stuck in pits of dirty, freezing mud, tormented by Cerberus and also a storm of snow, hail and thunder.
Etoiles, always hungry for the next fight, for the next dungeon, for the next opponent.
Baghera always hungry for answers, for things she cannot have, cannot do (she wants an explanation about what happened to her, she wants to save her friends when she cannot even save herself, she desires for the world to be good and kind).
Antoine, always hungry for power, selling his soul, his family, to achieve it. Devouring faces, devouring stories, devouring lives, swallowing everything whole until he doesn't even know who he was supposed to really be.
Pierre always hungry for connection, for warmth, hungry for those he meets, trying to fill the void in his heart with the temporary warmth of another body.
Pomme hungry for adventures, hungry to prove that she is worth of love (she remembers, those first days, the distrusts, the coldness, the way they considered not taking her and she never wants to feel that cold), Pomme being stuck, helpless when she knows so very well that helplessness gets you killed, that it makes you weak and unworthy.
The 4th circle, Avarice is empty, of the eggs at least. A respite, as much as they can have in that place.
They find Ramon in the 5th circle, Wrath. Localized on the Styx, the river that cuts through the Purgatory, made of boiling water and blood, that is the place where the wrathful are locked on eternal fights on the surface of the river, on the bottom the sullen are forever stuck drowning on the things they never got to say.
Fit who lived his whole life in a desolate wasteland where fighting was the only thing he could do. Fit who knew no rest, no peace, no sound of those fighting and those dying.
Fit who fought his whole life, who is still fighting, who doesn't know how to rest, who doesn't know how to forgive, who chokes on his wrath, who forces it down his throat because he wants to be better but anger was all that he knew during most of his life.
Fit who looks at those people in their eternal battle, bleeding and making others bleed for no reason, with no end in sight, with no real purpose but to cause harm, and feels at home.
Ramon who tries so hard to be light, to support and help his father in whatever he needs, who drowns his own feelings because he doesn't want to bother others, because he wants to be the rock they can lean on, drowning at the bottom of the Styx.
Leonarda is on the 6th circle, Heresy. This is the circle where the sinners had the intention of sinning, the one destined to those who denied the existence of god, who went against the beliefs of their time, and now they lay on open graves as fire burns them.
And what is Foolish if not a non believer?
He believes in no god, no authority, no deity. He believes in himself, he believes in his family, he believes in what he thinks is right.
Oh he plays pretend of course, he smiles at the Federation, he works for them, he joins the Ordo, he participates in their reunions, but do he believe in any of them? Does he commit to one dogma over the other?
Of course not.
Foolish is a non believer. He will join the side that offers him the most, he will betray them as easily as he joined, he will jump from a place to another as long as that keeps his family safe, as long as that is what is better for them.
Foolish who sins and smiles as he does so.
Little Leonarda who believes in her Pa above everything and anything else, burning in a never ending fire. Little Leonarda who doesn't give a fuck about anything else as long as he is okay, as long as he is by her side, who would follow him into whatever mess he got himself into, who couldn't care less about other's morals or expectations, who would gladly sin as long as they are together.
Richarlyson is on the 7th circle, Violence. This circle is actually divided in three parts but i think only two would be used the Valley of the Phlegethon where the ones who were violent against others were submerged on a river of the blood of those they hurt, and the valley of the suicidal, where those who were violent against themselves became either trees, eaten by harpies or chased by hungry dogs.
And well, it's self explanatory isn't it?
Who has spilled more blood than Cellbit? Between the war, the prison and not the Island he has enough blood on his account to drown them all.
Forever? Oh there are bloodbaths in his past too. There is rage that blinds, that takes hold of him and only leaves when he is standing in the aftermath of a carnage.
Mike does not mind blood. Never has, never will.
And who hurts Pac more than he does himself? Who hates Cellbit more than he hates himself? Who blames Forever for things, more than himself?
They may turn their rage against the world, may bath it into blood, may spill it until rivers form but they drown themselves in it too.
And Richarlyson? Little boy who saw too much, who knew death and suffering too early, who lives at war with a part of himself who wants nothing but to hurt and destroy.
Finally, Dapper is on the 8th circle, Fraud. This circle has ten pits in it, each designated to a type of sinner with their own punishment, raking from being whipped by demons to being submerged into boiling tar or being dressed into shiny clothes who were as heavy as lead.
And what is BadboyHalo if not a fraud?
Who even knows who he truly is, what he truly thinks? Probably not even himself.
This is a man of many layers and many masks, a man who presents himself in any way he thinks is right regardless of what he truly feels or thinks, this is a man who will lie to anyone, including himself.
This is a man who embodies every single sin punished, who could easily be put into any of the pits. Is he not a seducer? Is he not a liar and a thief? Corrupted by his own darkness? A hypocrite, to others and to himself? Does he not sow discord, does he not give bad advice?
And isn't Dapper too much like their father? Little Dapper who lies and lies and lies, who hides behind her own masks, who is now being punished because they do not know who they truly are underneath all the masks.
And the 9th circle, the last one?
Betrayal.
Sometimes the only way to leave hell, to leave Purgatory, is to be worse than the devils.

Spoilers for episode 7 of dead boy detectives
we got a silly rant under the cut
thinking about how Edwin meeting Charles was literally.. as soon as he got out of hell. There was no “ok I’m going to go here” no!! no!! He was brought to the attic because that’s where his bones were left (in the chest he is sitting on when he reads the book to Charles. At least it is in the comics)
I literally imagine it playing out with Edwin just leaving hell, full of relief and freedom and hope for better days and then the first thing he sees is a poor boy, just like him, dying just how he died. that’s got to be absolutely soul shattering to finally escape after 70 years of torment and the first thing he sees is that nothing has changed and he knows he is powerless to stop it and he cannot do anything just like the last years in hell. He has broken free but he is still helpless and trapped
like .. that would break me
but no he stays he offers Charles the lantern and STAYS WITH HIM because he knows what it is to be alone.
He has been alone for 70 years and he knows how it feels and if he can do anything it’s that he wants to help this poor dying boy and he wants to make sure that after he dies, he is not alone.
(Edwin at this point wouldn’t know that Charles can see him but still he cannot stand the thought of letting this boy die alone - when Charles dies he wants to be there to help him because as soon as Edwin died he was just left alone in hell forever and and he doesn’t want that for Charles aaaa)

this can be both Snow telling Finnick to break it off with his sweet girl and also reader having to accept that Finnick is leaving her. the hopelessness of the lyric is so devastating because reader and Finnick are both so powerless in the situation, there’s literally nothing either of them can do.
“The winner takes it all, the loser standing small”
yet again this can be perceived as both Finnick and reader. In Finnick’s case, Snow is the winner and he is the loser. Snow has taken everything from Finnick, and now he’s taking his ultimate happiness away from him, his sweet sweet girl. his everything. But it can also be reader. From her perspective, Finnick is the winner. He gets to keep his reputation as the golden boy heartbreaker while she is minimised into a ‘clingy’ and ‘overbearing’ girlfriend.
“Besides the victory, that’s her destiny”
the only thing i think of is readers fate when i hear this. her getting sent to the hunger games is both a punishment for her and Finnick. but who knows, maybe Snow knew that if he purposely reaped reader, she would win. Not only would she have Finnick by her side (Cause Snow knew he still loved her) but she also just has the personality of a victor. Snow knew she would be a favourite, being a victor was her destiny.

PLEASE IM SOBBING
That line speaks for itself, reader really did think she belonged with Finnick, that she belonged in his arms, and she does. She always knew she belonged with Finnick, except the breakup confused that. her heart and her head were no longer in unison because her logic was telling her to just forget Finnick, that she didn’t belong in his arms and never will, but her heart was telling her otherwise. It was telling her that she did in fact belong with him, even if he broke her heart. that’s why she dates Becket, to try and make her head and her heart one again, except that could never happen unless she was with Finnick. Her head and her heart could never be in unison again because Finnick has her heart and she has his.
I could use so many more lyrics from that masterpiece of a song, but i shall stick with three. but bro their story is such a tragic lovers story it HURTS😭 forget Romeo and Juliet, the two real tragic starcross’d lovers are Finnick and his sweet girl

they absolutely are, so abba coded overall (I also see this song as conway and reader in the games and like the realization conway has of what she's done and then when she hits him with that spear and he realizes he's done, that she'll win, anyways-)
finnick wants to play a card so bad, to do something to change it, but he can't because he's scared that if he stays with her something terrible will happen. and reader can't just refuse to accept what finnick says, nothing she will do will change his decision.
snow has forced finnick to be in the hunger games at 14, forced him into trafficking with threats, forced him to be a constant performer, and now he can't even have the person he loves, who grounds him, who makes it bearable all in the name of keeping Capitol customers pleased with him. and reader loses her escapist social life, the release from the neglect of her home life, time with her friends to get some sort of appreciation, the person she loved and adored. she has nothing but conway and the times finnick isn't doing anything to take up everyone else's time.
if reader didn't win it would have been a message that whatever finnick was doing still wasn't enough, that he still played to close to the fire and now it burnt him. however, snow is totally the type of person to be handing off a double edged sword, because he has eyes everywhere. he knows finnick still loves her, he knows he still walks the markets to see her, that he watches her. so if she wins, he can have her, at the cost that she'll go through exactly what he went through. so he has her, she's alive, but forever living a torturous existence.
in her and finnick's souls they know the belong together, but that some weird part of fate doesn't want them to be, or is always tearing them apart. reader grew up expecting that someday she'd end up with conway even though it didn't feel right, so she still tried to look for something else and she found it in finnick. all the sudden it all clicked, the stars aligned, until they were torn apart. then she had to live in a universe where she knew there was someone her heart longed for more then anyone in the universe, but she could never have. she tried to search for more then the fate set before her, going out with beckett, which doesn't work because it's neither the true love or the accepted path.

  Surely with his age and experience he will think of her as a chihuahua instead of the idiot she is. 
  — Come on, let's get those things back before you break them with some exaggerated gesture or something. Dinner will be in half an hour. — He said.
  — You guys use a lot of dishes? Chiron said that Clarisse and I have to wash them tonight. — I asked once we were walking.
  — Oh so more quality time with your new friend, huh? Yeah, we are a lot of people, so expect a tiny mountain of them. —
  His smile never faltered. When Luke grows up and becomes an adult, he will have a lot of wrinkles in the corners of his eyes. That's for sure.
  Before I could continue complaining, we arrived at cabin 6. The door was open, revealing Annabeth in the frame of it and a burly black-skinned boy fixing the lock in just seconds. 
  The counselor from cabin 6 thanked him and the boy gathered his things. As he left, he passed by Luke's side and gave us a nod as a quick greet.
  — You lived. — Annabeth stated with her arms crossed and a harsh look.
  I came closer to her to give her the pencil holders, which she took still wary.
  — Unfortunately for us both, yes. — I let out a nervous laugh.
  Annabeth had a strange look in her face, I couldn't pinpoint an emotion, but I knew she was uncomfortable.
  — Sorry. — I said.
  Annabeth looked at her feet. I hope she understood all of the things I was sorry for.
  Luke put a hand on my shoulder and gave us both a warm smile.
  — I think we're all a little too tired for today. Come on, Ada, let's stop by our cabin before it's time for dinner. —  He said.
  Without further ado, we left. Inside the cabin, Luke gave me a couple of camp t-shirts to change into.
The dinner horn sounded and all the campers left their cabins to go to the dining hall.
  — You know, anger is seen as an obstacle and a burden, but if you use it well, it can be a stepping stone and a reason for something better. You can do good with it. — Luke said.
 
  I didn't know how to respond. I doubt that Annabeth told him what happened but he comprehended that something bad happened between us. He knew I had hurted Annabeth, his little sister, and he was trying to help me. I couldn't make excuses anymore, I needed to change.
  — But... how? I've tried a thousand times before and it hasn't worked. Hurting people doesn't make me feel better but I just can't help it. —
  — When you feel powerless, you try to bring others down with you to regain power. It is best to breathe deeply before acting to be able to think with a cool mind because this makes you foresee the consequences of your actions and put them in your favor. The thing is, power is something that comes from within, you are never helpless until you surrender. —  
  — That's... not such a terrible peptalk. — I said.
  — Right? I'm a master. —
  We giggled together as we finally reached the Hermes table.
  The dinner was kinda fun although I almost die of a heartattack when the girl on my side dropped unconscious, but Luke said she's a Hypnos kid with narcolepsy so she's ok I think. We even sang happy birthday to an unclaimed boy who was turning 16. And yes, the children of Apollo are the people who hit high notes in the happy birthday song. Gotta admit they are very good tho.
   — Did you ask for some luck for your journey tomorrow, Aaron? — Chris asked him once the birthday boy burned a big piece of cake in the bonfire. 
  The boy had straight black hair and very pale skin, he was very shy but super nice.
  — Can't say or else Tyche won't accompany me. — Aaron responded.
  — What kind of journey are you going to do? — I dared to ask.
  — A movie theater in town will play a rerun of The Incredibles, my favorite movie. So I plan to see it and get to know the city a little more. — He explained with a little smile.
  — That sounds fun, best wishes for you. Tyche and you are going to have a blast. — I smiled kindly to him, and he nodded in response.
  Maybe Annabeth was right after all, life was good around here. Aaron seemed very optimistic about his little adventure, so maybe if I train extra hard this summer I'll get to protect Percy and myself around the school year at the city.
  The rest of dinner passed quickly and everyone started to go to the communal campfire. When I got up from the table I heard a voice calling me.
  — Hi Will, what's up?— I asked him as he approached.
  — I forgot to give you this, it's ambrosia. Everyone needs to carry some around if something breaks out. — He said, handing me a little bag.
  Oh God, I forgot to give Argus the bag of coins. I'm kinda afraid of what he was going to do if he thought I won't ever pay him. He won't cuss me out but he could kick my butt.
  — Thank you Will. You are a great doctor. — I smiled and saved the bag into my pocket.
  — It's nothing, have a good night. —
  After he left, Luke walked me to the door of the small cabin where all the dishes teleported after they had been used.
  — Best wishes with your bestie, Ada. — He joked as he opened the door for me.
  — What do you think I prayed for? — I responded as I entered.
  It was half the truth. I prayed for Percy and Grovee coming here safely and for me to get out of here alive.
  I was greeted by at least ten stacks of plates taller than me. And I'm 1.60 m.
  I heard the door open again and turned to see it was Clarisse. I inspected if there was any trace left of our little disagreement. Her nose is healed but her knuckles are still hurt.
  — Hi. — I greeted awkwardly.
  She frowned and crossed her arms at my poor friendhood attempt.
  — Tell me one reason not to kill you right now. —
  — Well, I believe that "because it's illegal" is off the table. I would love to make a list of how unfavorable my assassination would be for you, but right now the most important one is that you'll finish this up faster and that Luke set me up my first real spar lessons for tomorrow so you will be able to beat me up while not breaking the rules. — I smiled with my lips pursed as I taped my fingers in the counter.
  — Bitch. — She responded oh so gracefully.
  — I'll wash them and you can dry them. — I said while I grabbed the first plate and she stood on my right to grab the rag.
  After a while, we were half way down the first pile of plate but boredom and the almost imperceptible way Clarisse's breath hitches every time she moves her hands brought me out of my dissociation.
  — So Will ran out of ambrosia or something? — I asked looking at her.
  — A broken nose is uncomfortable, but knuckles like this are a trophy. Scars makes the warrior. You wouldn't understand, pretty girl. — She said, with that signature killer look oh her.
  — Did you forgot already? You are "pretty girl", I'm "tough girl". — I smirked at her.
  — You deserve to be killed. — She said.
  I giggled. She really is a chihuahua.
  — What? It's iconic now, so no take backs. — She rolled her eyes at me and placed the dry plate on the clean pile.
  I admit that she reminds me a little of Nancy with all that fury that she carries inside her. The difference was that Clarisse's anger wasn't just a consequence of a hard life, it was an eternal flame that linked her to her divine heritage. I can't even imagine the great person that she would be if she managed to control it.
  I placed the bag Will gave me in the counter, but I didn't looked at her in the eyes.
  — You should heal them, they are going to get infected. — I said as I started washing a another plate.
I saw her hesitate a little before she looked away.
  — I don't need your pity. — she said in an irritated tone.
 
  — You don't have it. You think I didn't see the way everyone in your table, all great warriors, act around you? They look up to you, even your older siblings. Open knucles dont achive that. —
  — No, they don't, years of training do it. I'm the best of the best cabin of warriors in the entire camp, and I don't need a rookie to tell me what I should do. Your opinion doesn't matter to me, you are nobody. — She growled, towering over me.
  — Really? And here I thought you considered me special. —
  — If Chiron wouldn't have come to help you out, I would've have destroyed you, tough girl. You are no warrior. — She said.
  — I don't wanna be one! — I weakly screamed.
  I realized that I won't be able to put out fire with fire so I just took a deep breath and covered my face with my wet hands to cool down and dropped them after.
  — You are already a perfect warrior, you don't need to be hurting to prove it. — I stated, looking her deeply in her brown eyes.
  Her gaze softened and her mouth slightly parted, but didn't mutter a word. I let out a sigh in dissapointment and started to wash another plate.
  We didn't speak again until we finished all the tableware. I put the dishes in the cupboard while Clarisse was organizing the cutlery behind me. After I made sure they wouldn't fall when someone opens the door I turned around to look at Clarisse.
  — I believe that we are done. Bye, Clarisse. — I said as I reached for the door.
  — You are forgetting something.—
  I turned around again to see what she was talking about and she trew my ambrosia bag at me. I clumsily caught it  because I was distracted by the way Clarisse was standing, she had her arms crossed with her hands cupping her elbows, leaving on sight her healed knuckles. Her face didn't hold her stoic expression, it was softer.
  — You are going to swallow a fly, dumbass. — 
  I hadn't realized that I had opened my mouth a little in surprise but I quickly closed it in embarrasment.
  — Don't think much about it. I'll need my fists in shape if I wanna go for your other eye. — She explained.
  —  Yeah well, you were going nowhere with those knuckles, pretty girl. —
  — Well, I wanna see what kind of warrior you are tomorrow, tough girl. — She said with a smirk in her face as she walked past me and bumped my shoulder slightly on her way out.
 
  I saved the ambrosia in my front pocket with a smirk as I left the cabin.
  Everything was quiet now, only the far sounds of crickets and owls could be heard, so I didn't expect to see a little girl sitting in one of the logs close to the bonfire.
  — Hey, lass. It's a little bit cold around here. You sure you don't wanna be in your warm and comfy bed? — I asked in a kind tone.
  She lifted her sight from the fire to me and smiled. I'm almost entirely sure that she doesn't have glasses on but the fire it's reflecting in her eyeballs somehow.
  She said "he finally made a good one" or something like that, I didn't heard a thing with how soft she spoke but I don't have the chance to ask her now because she and the fire were gone after I blinked.
  My face dropped and I ran to the Hermes cabin. There was no fucking way I was about to deal with a ghost on my first day.

Do you think he ever regrets killing Dibala? He fully believes he did the right thing and that the world is a better place because of his actions. But it took so much from him—his wife, his happiness, his humanity. Is he self-sacrificial enough to think it was worth it for the world, or does he wish he didn't do it?
Chase seems pretty ambivalent about it tbh.
PATIENT : Haven't you ever done something in a relationship you wish you could take back? CHASE : Maybe. PATIENT : How'd you handle it? CHASE : I told the truth. Eventually. PATIENT : How'd that work out? CHASE : Not well. (Recession Proof)
He's also… not that self sacrificial. Chase is a pretty self centered person in all honesty. I don't mean selfish, exactly. He's plenty capable of empathy and care. But he pretty consistently puts himself first; he's a survivor. He rats to Vogler without regret, he doesn't like to put himself at risk, the times he chooses to ignore or defy House aren't over ethical matters (Chase does have ethical objections sometimes) but over legal ones: one of my favorite lines in the whole series is in Fools For Love, when House wants to do something wildly illegal:
CHASE: Give it up. Foreman and Cameron are too ethical, and I’m too scared of getting sued.
That's what I mean when I say he's self centered. It isn't that he doesn't care about anyone else, but he looks out for himself first. Dibala was a rare moment where his feelings (anger over Dibala lying to him, anger that Dibala assaulted Cameron, anger over an impending massacre) overtook Chase's feelings of apathetic self preservation. He thinks he did the right thing, objectively. He believes the world is a better place. But Chase doesn't often try to do the right thing. He put everything on the line for an abstract moral good, and he lost a lot. As you said, it wasn't just Cameron. Chase is a markedly different person after Dibala. He's emotionally closed off, he's unhappy, he spends his time sleeping around. He gets bored of sleeping around. He gets bored of surfing. He doesn't like who he is very much, but feels powerless to change.
I think he does regret it. But what can he do? If he regrets it and wishes he didn't do it, then what was the point? He did it. It changed him. It broke up his marriage. At least he can tell himself he did the right thing, he got something out of it. He didn't just ruin his own life for no reason.
One of the wonderful tragedies of Dibala is that it literally happens at the worst/best time. Arguably, at the start of S6 Chase is happier than he has ever been. He's incredibly good at his job and everyone knows it. He and House are buddies; he and Foreman are finally friends. He's recently married to arguably the great Love Of His Life (we have never heard of Chase having any serious relationships before or after Cameron). He's doing great! He has a ten year plan! They're planning on having kids! Chase has never had it so good. And it's gone in seconds. He threw it all away. And he knows it. And if it wasn't the right thing to do, then he threw it away for nothing.
(You could also speculate, in a very fun fanfiction-y way, that Chase wouldn't have killed Dibala at any other moment. If it was an earlier season, he wouldn't have grown enough to care enough to put morals first, to get that angry: he simply wouldn't have cared enough. And if it had been a few years later, if say he and Cameron were still together and had a kid, then again, would he be willing to risk himself? Instead, it was at a moment he was both completely sure of himself and capable of getting involved in that way: Dibala 2.0 comes in in S1 of Chase MD and Chase isn't doing a damn thing to stop him. It's a pretty small window of time.)
But admitting "I wish I hadn't done it, this is what happens when you stop looking out for yourself and make a moral stand" is… also a rough take. He stays fairly ambivalent about it all. But Chase also never makes another moral stand, either.

Hi!
I hope you take the time to read this, if not that's fine, but I have a genuine question regarding pro life rhetoric. I've been pro choice practically my whole life but recently I've started really looking into the pro-life sphere more and doing more research on abortion, and I've concluded that I might identify with pro life much more than with pro choice. There's just one 'threshold' that I can't seem to cross yet and I'd be interested to know if you have a response to that.
Whilst I know that pregnancy is pretty ordinary and all of our moms went through it, I don't think it's nothing. Especially unplanned/unwanted pregnancies. Maybe the most important reason I am/was pro choice is that I don't think it's better to force someone to remain pregnant than it is to have an abortion, because pregnancy can seriously and possibly permanently change/influence your physical and mental health.
I guess my question is, if we take away all social-economic reasons why somebody wouldn't want to be pregnant and we're faced with someone who just doesn't want to be pregnant because of the physical and mental aspect of it, how do we address those cases? How do we help the pregnant person best as we can if we refuse to make abortion the solution?
Just to clarify this is a genuine question I have, not an attempt to start a debate.
I agree that pregnancy isn’t a regular sacrifice, and it’s a big deal. The biggest difference between the pro-choice and pro-life worldview is (usually) fetal personhood (which I've defended over ten times: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10). Without the shared foundation of understanding that all humans are people, we'll always reach different conclusions about how to respond to difficult pregnancy situations. In fact, I find the idea of forcing a pregnant person to continue to carry a *potential* person quite abhorrent; but, I don't understand any human to be merely a "potential" person. That being said, I'll try to answer your question both from a pro-personhood and a neutral perspective.
If you understand all human organisms to be people, then you likely also recognize that any situation in which we wouldn't allow a parent to kill their premature infant, we also ought not permit them to kill their fetus or embryo. Would I allow a parent to kill their premie because their mental or physical health is influenced by their dependency upon them? No, with exception for permanent impairment or death.
To be consistent, I hold the same standard for preborn children. The ordinary risks of a healthy pregnancy alone are not enough to justify killing someone. And all abortion bans already have exceptions for maternal mortality, if not also severe morbidity. I trust the ability of doctors to decide when a possible risk becomes an actual threat, and to take triage action when required while treating both patients. I think it's important to recognize that while pregnant people must hold medical primacy, the preborn hold equal priority.
Beyond exceptions, how do we care for the physical and mental health of pregnant people without resorting to violence against the most powerless and vulnerable people? Access to sufficient and timely maternal and prenatal care is essential to prevent most physical pregnancy morbidities, and especially in the US we must improve accessibility and quality. When complications do arise, we must be sympathetic to the parent's suffering without dehumanizing their child or devaluing either life.
Abortion-minded parents are in a mental health crisis akin to suicide; not in a literal biological sense, but on an existential level, your offspring is a part of you, and so abortion is a denial that a part of you has the right to exist and to be perpetuated into the future. If a suicidal person were to have those thoughts, we would prevent them from acting upon them. Analogously, the compassionate response to mental distress from pregnancy is not abortion, but intervention. Abortion is not evidence-based treatment for any mental condition.
From a personhood-neutral perspective, abortion is at best a band-aid solution to health concerns that may arise during pregnancy. Pregnancy is not disease, though disease may happen within pregnancy and is treatable. Framing a healthy, ordinary function of the fertile female body as a medical ailment is, frankly, misogynistic. As long as abortion is available as the "easy solution", the patriarchy will continue to use it as a cop-out for learning how to actually prevent and treat maternal morbidities. So if we want to see progress in maternal medicine, we have to stop relying on abortion as a crutch. We must demand that pregnancy be normalized, not pathologized.
