Except I cannot live in a society wherein I'm expected to get into the transporter that unless they've changed the scifi explanation for it since I last watched, actually just creates a perfect copy and murders the original. Nobody wants to admit that and the copy is accurate enough that they may never have to, but.
Also if you think about it, people repeatedly and casually committing suicide in order to get from one place to another faster and no one being willing to acknowledge it is basically just fossil fuels taken to its moat extreme philosophical conclusion. One of my least favourite things about real world Earth would follow me to the Star Trek universe.
“Which fictional universe would you rather live in—“ Star Trek. Star Trek. There is a correct answer and it’s Star Trek. “I want to have cool adventures—“ Star Trek. “I want to live in high tech but ethical peace and comfort” Star Trek. “I want to be a psychic alien—“ Star Trek. “But I want to do magic—“ do you know how much weird magic shit happens in Star Trek. Also Star Trek has holodecks you can pretend to be in Lord of the Rings or Star Wars or whatever and then come home to your usually peaceful interstellar community. There are basically no downsides to living in the Star Trek universe if you take the assumption that you remain you, a human living on Earth. You can join Starfleet or you can stay home and enjoy fully automated luxury gay space communism. The answer is Star Trek.
#don't ask me my opinions on star wars hyperspace flight either#i already didnt want to live in the gffa bc of entire planets that are basically company towns + slavery etc#literally almost every planet is some kind of torment nexus by very mundane capitalist greed on a galactic scale#you dont even need the sith to create hellworlds
