eric kane (april 4, 2024—inspired by aaliyah’s “erica kane”)

giving your hopes up when you knew what it was,

trying not to get upset because that’s just how he does.

he makes you feel good, like you’re the only girl in the world.

but in the back of your mind, you’re not the only one.

he’ll smirk at you, touch the small of your back, make you smile.

but that can only last after a while.

trigger him, say something he doesn’t like…

now he’s retaliating out of spite.

you don’t do this, you don’t do that…

your hair looks a mess—DAMN, you look fat.

gaslight, manipulate, yell, and sneer.

you’re losing yourself, trying to get yourself back into gear.

whatever he wants, you can’t help but to do

even though you know this is unlike you.

but you love him, as all women do…

but do they treat him like you do?

that shouldn’t matter—he loves you right?

he’s the one who’d listen no matter day or night

remember little things you may have forgotten,

and when he has the bread he’d spoil you rotten…

but… that only lasts a while before you start callin fouls

you’re tired of this shit, giving all types of scowls.

you start saying no, start standing your ground…

he’s surprised, annoyed at this attitude profound.

as much as it hurts you to let this go,

you know you have to continue to grow

he can’t take your power sis, that’s all yours

because by doing this you even the score.

don’t give him any more chances, don’t explain yourself

and know that even though it hurts, you’ll gain emotional wealth.

he’ll just move on—reeking havoc on another beautiful soul

to suck dry, leech, manipulate till he hits his goal.

but you’re no longer giving your hopes up because you knew what it was

and you will no longer accept “that’s just how he does.”
