"Child of the Sun"
Chapter 2
masterlist
Synopsis: Julia Novachrono prepares for her Magic Knight Exam, as the family makes the journey to the castle for the first time in years.
13 Years Later
"Juno? Are you almost ready?"
"I am! I am!! It's just-"
Lisa tapped her foot as her daughter's flustered voice called out from behind her closed door. She sucked in a breath and glanced over at the grandfather clock in the hall, seeing that it was almost 10 am, when they were supposed to leave.
"Is something wrong? Everyone else is-"
Lisa was cut short as the door suddenly swung open, finally revealing the young girl, who was paler than usual. She gulped before holding up her cloak, revealing a busted clasp. "I- I don't remember breaking it, but I can't get it to work…"
Juno was a quiet, nervous girl. Her black hair contrasted with her fair skin, her wide grayish eyes giving her a slightly fragile look. It only served to make her appear more frantic now.
"Oh, that's all?" Lisa's eyes softened, as she took the cloak from Juno. With a burst of mana, the broken clasp suddenly snapped back into its original position, fixed. "There! No harm done." She gave Juno a reassuring smile before handing the cloak back. "Now, we need to hurry. Julia's eager to leave."
"Thanks, mom!" Juno said, her eyes lighting up, swinging the cloak over her shoulders. Together, the two hurried back down the hall and then out the front door, stepping out onto the porch of their home.
Not long after Juno was born, there was no reason for Julius and Lisa to stay in the capitol, so they picked everything up and moved to the cabin Julius owned in the woods, isolated from society except for a few small towns down at the base of the mountain. The house was large, and they could buy supplies in the town without going far, and it served as an oasis away from the crazy world they had been entrenched in for so many years. Also, it was perfect for raising children, with a beautiful forest surrounding them and plenty of space. Space was essential, after all, as two more family members joined them about five years after Juno…
"There you are! Ready to go?"
Julius looked up at Juno and Lisa as they descended the porch stairs, being tugged left and right by the small children who held his hand. "Ah, you two, settle down…"
"No! We wanna go! We wanna go!"
"Come on, how much longer?!"
A little girl with auburn hair and red eyes, and a little boy with dirty blonde hair and lavender eyes shouted in unison, tugging on their father demandingly. Lisa giggled, before putting on a serious face. "Rhea! Titus! You're going to tear your father in half if you keep that up. And don't worry, it's nearly time."
That seemed to quell the twins' excitement a little, and Julius shot Lisa a grateful smile. "It's almost ten, right? Cobb should be opening the portal soon-"
Right on cue, a shimmering door of light appeared behind them.
"Ah! There he is!" With one effortless tug, Julius pulled the twins up into his arms, looking over at Lisa. "Ready?"
Lisa nodded, pushing Juno to go join her father, before finally directing her attention to the eldest child, who had been silent up until now. "Julia? You alright?"
Julia was only 15, but she was already taller than Lisa. Other than that, the two were almost spitting images of each other, although Julia's hair was longer and pulled back into a ponytail, and her eyes a sparkling amethyst like her fathers. Lisa could tell she was nervous for today, as she only gave her a stiff nod in response to the question. Lisa smiled a little, reaching out to take her daughter's hand.
"Hey, it's going to be great. You're going to be great."
"... I hope so," Julia replied, but squeezed Lisa's hand back. The girl managed to smile. "... thanks."
"Come on," Lisa grinned as she pulled Julia towards the portal, which the others had already disappeared through. "I'm sure everyone is eager to see you before the exam."
With that, the two stepped through. Lisa blinked a few times to get her bearings before seeing that they were now standing in a grand, familiar hallway. Looking ahead, she spotted two people standing a few meters away, and her face lit up.
"Marx! Cobb!"
She let go of Julia's hand to run to her old friends and coworkers, giving them a big hug.
"Lisa! It's been far too long!" Marx exclaimed happily, stepping back.
"It has- hope the journey over wasn't too bad~" Cobb joked.
"Not at all, thanks to you," Lisa teased back, smiling brightly. "Gosh, we don't come to visit enough…"
"Ah, glad to see you two still working hard~"
Cobb and Marx looked up as Julius approached. "Sir! It's good to see you!!" Marx said, bowing his head.
"Marx! Cut that out, it's been over a decade since I was Wizard King," Julius scolded, a happy smile on his face. "You look great, both of you."
"You four! Come say hello to Marx," Lisa called out to the kids, who stood silently behind their parents. "Marx, you remember Julia, right?"
"I do! My, how you've grown!" Marx smiled at Julia. "My daughter Guilette is taking the exam today too! I hope you'll say hello to her, she's very nervous."
"Oh, I'll see if I spot her," Julia replied, seeming to relax a little.
"And- oh, my. The twins have grown, too." Marx's eyes widened when he saw the twins. "How old are you two now?"
"Oh! These two! They're 7!" Julius said, motioning for Titus and Rhea to step closer. "Rhea, Titus, say hello to Marx. He used to be my helper~"
"Hello, Mr. Marx," Titus replied quietly.
Rhea stared up at Marx owlishly, before pointing at him. "Your head looks like a blueberry!"
"Ah!! Rhea, that's not nice…"
However, Marx laughed it off, shaking his head. "Don't worry, I have kids of my own, I'm used to it." He looked up, finally locking eyes with Juno.
…
It was barely perceptible, but Lisa noticed his hesitation, just for a moment.
"Juno, how good to see you, too!"
Marx smiled, then glanced over at Cobb, who was staring at Juno, his eyes wide. "... Cobb? You've met Juno before, right?"
Juno blinked, glancing up at Lisa for a moment, confused as to why Cobb's smile had disappeared.
"... when she was a baby, yes… I'm sorry!" He suddenly snapped out of it, and smiled back. "Good to see you, Juno."
… Cobb… Lisa thought to herself, gulping nervously and instinctively taking Juno's hand. She glanced over at Julius, who was still talking happily with the other two men. Why did he react like that? It's not like Juno looks all that different, I mean- at least she doesn't look that much like her father…
"Well, we better head to the exam, before it gets too late," Julius said, taking Rhea and Titus's hands again, then looking at Julia. "How are you feeling?"
Julia sucked in a breath, then shrugged.
"I… I don't know. Fine, I guess."
"Hey, remember what we practiced," Lisa told her, touching her shoulder gently. "You have great control over your magic now. I just know that you're going to wow the captains."
"Right! I know you can do it!" Julius encouraged, smiling brightly. "I can't wait to see you out there… my daughter, becoming a magic knight…" He sniffed, suddenly emotional.
"A-alright, dad! Please don't cry!!" Julia told him frantically, but managed to smile. She balled up her fists excitedly. "I can do this!"
"That's my girl!"
Lisa giggled, before waving to Marx and Cobb. "Thanks for bringing us here, we'll be back for dinner before we leave!"
"Alright!" Marx waved back, smiling. "Good luck, Julia!"
They turned to leave, but Lisa could still feel Cobb's gaze burning into the back of her and Juno's heads.
She squeezed her daughter's hand protectively once again.
It's alright… I'm sure it's nothing to worry about…

Jupiter & Rahu : Ditziness & Weird Girl Humor
This post is inspired by an ask I received a while ago
Jupiter & Rahu girls in comedy cinema/television often play airheaded characters who are a bit ditzy and zany. Another feature is that all these characters are mostly harmless, good natured people. They can be mean/blunt but its because of their ditzy, airheaded nature and not out of malice.
All 3 Jupiter naks belong mostly to air signs (Punarvasu- Gemini, Vishaka-Libra, Purvabhadrapada- Aquarius) and same goes for all 3 Rahu naks (Ardra-Gemini, Swati-Libra, Shatabhisha-Aquarius) in fact all Rahu naks come right before a Jupiter nak. I have always personally believed that Rahu & Jupiter are similar in many ways but obviously different as well. Rahu is limitless expansion. Jupiter is boundless expansion within principles.
But all that aside, Jupiter & Rahu are literally air influenced and I do think its the presence of an excess of Air that makes someone come across as "airheaded".
The etymology of the word "airhead" is that one's head is filled with air and is thus empty. I have talked about Jupiter & even Rahu's limitless nature feeling "empty" for the natives themselves. Out of all the elements, air is the only one that can really said to be boundless, its not measurable or calculable, its just there, unlike water or earth or fire. but air has no physical form and while that is liberating, it also makes one feel empty and untethered and these are all emotional issues that a lot of Jupiter/Rahu people deal with.
But anyyywayys,
youtube
Cat Valentine on Victorious played by Ariana Grande is a really good example of an airheaded, zany comic character.
Ari has Ardra Sun & Mercury in Punarvasu (Rahu + Jupiter influence)
I will include Mercury placements because Mercury is literally how we communicate with others??
youtube
Phoebe Buffay from Friends is another good example of this type of comedy. She is played by Lisa Kudrow's who has Rahu conjunct Ascendant in Punarvasu
youtube
Kelly Kapoor from The Office is the ditzy zany delusional gal played by Mindy Kaling who is Ardra Sun & Moon, with Mercury in Punarvasu
youtube
Jackie Burkhart on The 70s Show played by Mila Kunis, Swati Moon is a meaner version of this archetype
youtube
Meryl Streep- Ardra Sun often speaks and talks this way. Just watch any of her interviews and you can sense that Rahu/Jupiter airy nature/demeanour/comic sense
youtube
Janhvi Kapoor, Purvabhadrapada Sun, Mercury in Shatabhisha is known for her "dumb girl persona" that most people think is fake but tbh I just think she's a little slow due to all that Air influence lol
youtube
Gracie Allen, Mercury in Punarvasu conjunct Jupiter is an early example of this type of humour and comedy
youtube
Cheryl Tunt on Archer voiced by Judy Greer, Mercury in Punarvasu (Saturn in Punarvasu atmakaraka)
youtube
Chrissy Snow from Three's Company played by Suzane Somers, Punarvasu Moon & Mercury in Vishaka is a classic example of a ditz
There are notable male ditzy characters as well
youtube
Andy from Parks & Rec played by Chris Pratt, Mercury in Punarvasu & Swati Rising
(there's a 10 video limit per post so I cant attach more vids)
Tumblr media
Joey Tribbiani, played by Matt LeBlanc, Purvabhadrapada Moon, Mercury in Ardra & Punarvasu Rising is a great example of a male ditz
Tumblr media
Harpo Marx- Punarvasu Moon, Mercury in Vishaka he was a silent comedian known for his highly exaggerated physical comedy that was very pantomime/clown-like. This is another aspect of the airhead/ditz, they don't just say dumb things, they do dumb things. Physical comedy is a big part of it.
Tumblr media
London Tipton played by Brenda Song, Mercury conjunct Rahu in Purvabhadrapada
Tumblr media
Christina Applegate, Shatabhisha Moon played a very ditzy character on Married With Children
These are all the examples off the top of my head. I feel like many Disney princesses will also fit this bill lol
lmk if you have other examples
hope this was interesting xx

Music of the Heart [J.YH] - eighty-eight | being kind is punk
Owing to some cola stains in the carpeting - and the carpet color being a color that was no longer used in the offices - the building manager, upon inspecting the room that would become your studio, decided that it was the rare moment in a building manager’s career where he would be able to change a rooms decor without having to inconvenience the person using it by kicking them out for a while. You didn’t mind, the idea of soda sitting in the rug for a while made you worried there might be bugs in or under the carpet, and since the other members of Crom3r were dealing with the emotional residue of their ex-producer, you didn’t want to deal with physical aspects, in the sense of suddenly finding pests in your private studio years down the line. As it was, you and Yujin were beginning your bass lessons in a lesson room you were given use of, until your studio was ready.
Yujin took out her bass and plugged it in and got comfortable in her seat. She watched you as you, bass in your lap, flipped through what you had prepared.
“Ooooookay. Did you go over what I gave you?”
“Oh!” She leaned over and took the folder you gave her out of her backpack. In the time between when you gave it to her, and her showing up for her first lesson now, she had covered it in stickers.
As she opened it to look for something, you read one outloud, red text over a picture of Karl Marx:
“‘Dude, I fucking warned you, I fucking told you bro.’”
“Oh!” She said, realizing what you were reading. “I’m sorry--”
You laughed. “Don’t be. The man was right.”
She laughed awkwardly. “It’s such bullshit that he was right so long ago, and we’re still doing shit he critiqued… or worse.”
“You’re right about that.” You pointed to another sticker, “I also like the Lisa Frank dolphin next to the classic ‘Unionize’ fish poster.”
She looked at it and laughed. “I was going for a theme.”
You smiled. “I like it.”
She nodded awkwardly. “So… I went over the self-test,” she fished it out of the folder.
“How’d you do?”
“Um… I mean, I haven’t been playing that long, so I didn’t get very far.”
You took it from her and looked at her notes: what had been easy, what had been difficult, and the blank expanse of the second half denoting what she didn’t even bother trying at all.
“I’m sorry.”
You looked at her. Her brows were furrowed together in worriment, maybe she felt she had failed you or failed herself before she even got a chance to start. You smiled a small smile. “Don’t worry about it.”
“Wha-- isn’t it bad that I couldn’t finish it all?”
“Not at all. This was just to let me know what level we were starting at. I never thought you were a prodigy, and even if you were, I’d still have to know so I would know what to teach you.”
She thought for a moment and nodded.
“Okay? This was just for me to know where to start. That’s all it is.”
She nodded again. “Okay.”
“Okay? I’m not mean, I promise.”
She laughed softly.
“I had a really mean violin teacher when I was a kid, and I can promise you: I’ll never treat you the way they treated me, okay?”
Her eyes widened. “How mean were they?”
“Hmm…” How much did you want to explain? “He made me practice scales - at increasing speeds - until my fingers bled. And he made me practice bowing until I had to have an ice pack on my wrist, because the nerves were inflamed.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, he was a mean guy.”
“Why didn’t your mom do something about it?”
“Well…” you weren’t sure how much to say without starting a huge conversation. “She didn’t see a problem with it.”
She gasped.
You raised your eyebrows in shock.
“That’s not punk rock.”
You laughed loudly. “I don’t think they were trying to be punk rock.”
“Being mean isn’t punk. Being kind is. Look--” she searched her folder for a moment for a white on black sticker that said ‘Being kind is punk’. “See?”
You chuckled. “Well I definitely agree with that. But, he and my mom were old farts, so they weren’t too concerned with being punk. Or kind.”
She frowned.
“But we don’t have to worry about them anymore. I haven’t seen them in years.”
“Good. They shouldn’t be known, if they treated you like that.”
You laughed. She was very decided for someone so young. It was like looking into a mirror and seeing your younger self, but if that younger self was allowed to be who she was, instead of having to hide. You shook off the feeling; you were supposed to be teaching bass, not getting emotional.
“So, I have something new for you,” you handed her a paper. It was a list of songs you’d be teaching her, along with the techniques that went with being able to play them:
Songs:
--Simple Money - Pink Floyd Back in Black - AC/DC Feel Good Inc - Gorillaz Funkenstein - Parliament Low Rider - War Good Times - Chic Give It Away - Red Hot Chili Peppers
--Medium Come As You Are - Nirvana My Sharona - The Knack Lust for Life - Iggy Pop Can’t Stop - Red Hot Chili Peppers Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division I Want You Back - Jackson 5
--Complex Giant Steps - John Coltrane Roundabout - Yes Hysteria - Muse Wynona's Big Brown Beaver - Primus Killing in the Name Of - Rage Against the Machine Portrait Of Tracy - Jaco Pastorius Playing God - Polyphia G.O.A.T. - Polyphia Hemispheres - Rush YYZ - Rush Schism - Tool 46+2 - Tool
--Slap Bass Fun Zone! Alright - Jamiroquai Higher Ground - Red Hot Chili Peppers Earthquake - Graham Central Station Get on The Floor - Michael Jackson Guerrilla Radio - Rage Against the Machine Aeroplane - Red Hot Chili Peppers Emergency on Planet Earth - Jamiroquai
--Holy Blisters, Batman! Mr Pink - Level 42 Come on My Selector - Squarepusher
--Boy, Do I Love Practicing! Classical Thump - Victor Wooten
Her eyes went wide. “I… have to learn… all of these?”
You raised a brow at her. “Yes, right now.”
“What?”
You laughed. “Obviously not right now. This is for however long it takes for you to learn each song. We’ll start with one, and when you can play it correctly - and confidently - we’ll go onto the next one.”
“Oh…” she stared at the list.
“If there’s songs you like and really want to learn, we can add them too. These are just songs I think are good to learn to help you become a good bass player.”
She nodded, eyes still on the list. You took her silence as meaning you could keep talking.
“So I tried to organize them into easy, medium and hard, but really it’s more a scale of simple to complex? Like the techniques don’t change, but the bassist is using more techniques together or doing them faster or going from one to the other faster, and that makes it a little harder to play.”
“…Why does it say ‘Slap Bass Fun Zone!’?”
You laughed. “Because a lot of people like slap bass, ‘cause, you know, it makes da funny noises. So I added a bunch of songs that were good for practicing it.”
She nodded.
You let her look at the list some more. Did she know all the songs? Was she confused? Should you ask?
“‘Holy Blisters, Batman!’?” She asked.
“Those are really fast slap bass songs. And ‘Classical Thump’, the only song in its category, is a practice song that Victor Wooten wrote and later recorded for an album. It gets complex but we can take it slow.”
She nodded. “Why is there a Michael Jackson song?”
“His bassist, Lewis Johnson, was nicknamed Thunder Thumbs: absolute madman. You should look up concert footage of him when you get a chance.”
She nodded again. “Higher Ground? Isn’t that a Stevie Wonder song?”
You nodded. “Good eye. You're more than welcome to listen to the original, but the Red Hot Chili Pepper cover is a really good instance of slap bass because their bassist, Flea, puts a lot of juice into it. A lot of zest. A lot of… pizazz-- why are you looking at me like that?”
She looked from you to the list quietly. “Do you really listen to all of these groups?”
“Yeah, why?”
“You listen to so many things. I want to be like that.”
You felt like you were going to cry. Other people rarely complimented your wide musical tastes, and whenever someone did, it always made you a bit emotional. Even if you didn’t show it.
“Well, you know,” you started. “Just look for new things all the time, and you, too, can have a music player with a terabyte microSD in it that’s half full.”
She looked up from the list in shock. “Wha-- literally? Half full?”
“Yep.”
“You have that much music?”
“Mhm. Most of them are FLAC files so, you know, bigger than MP3s.”
“Yeah, but they sound so much better.”
You smiled and nodded. “It’s definitely worth sacrificing the space for.”
“Wow… that’s my new goal. I also want to be a person who listens to that much music.”
You laughed. “Let’s start with these songs and you can listen to their other songs, and bring me whichever ones you want to learn.”
She nodded emphatically. “How long do I have to learn each one?”
“How long? What do you mean?”
“I only have so long to learn them, right?”
You looked at her, confused. “Who told you that?”
“Well… we have to learn everything super fast, don’t we? Or they won’t let us debut.”
“Wha-- who said that?”
“Theo’s friend at another company.”
“Oh… at another company.” You nodded.
She looked at you, confused.
“Yujin, Wonderland won’t force you to debut if you aren’t all ready for it.”
“Oh… really?”
“Of course. At the very least, if we debuted you and you hadn’t practiced enough, *we’d* look bad, but I’m sure the CEO doesn’t want to put you all on a stage if he doesn’t think you’re ready for it yet.”
She nodded. “We met him when we signed our contracts.”
“What’d you think?”
“He was nice.”
“He helped me make your lesson plan.”
“Really?”
“Mhm. And if he can take that much care with making sure you’re learning what you need to learn, I don’t think he’ll force ONiiX to debut when you’re not ready. Okay?”
“Okay.”
“Now… What you really want is to be able to play these correctly and in time, and it’s not weird if you want to practice a particular part over and over.”
“Do people do that?”
Your eyebrows ticked up in concern. “What do you mean?”
“Do people practice a part of a song a lot?”
You looked at her for a second, a small smile snaking across your lips as you tried to suppress a laugh. “Um… Yujin, what do you do when you practice?”
She shrugged. “I listen to a song and try to play it.”
“You play it by ear?”
“Yes?”
You nodded.
“Is that bad?”
“No, if you’re playing the song right then it means that your ability to detect pitch is good.”
“I… it doesn’t always sound good though. When I play”
You nodded. “Why don’t you play me a song you feel you know well, and we’ll see.”
She looked at the list. “Um, I know this one,” she pointed to the list.
“Back in Black?”
“Yeah. My dad likes it.”
“Okay,” you took the paper from her and put it on the table. “Go ahead and play it, and I’ll see what you mean.”
The song itself, if it had been played completely correctly and in time, was a little over four minutes. It took more than that for Yujin to play it as it was riddled with mistakes and her rhythm was a little all over the place. Part of the reason for that was, when she’d make a mistake, she’d become frustrated, yell at herself under her breath, and then trip over herself as she tried to fix it.
You watched, keeping your expression neutral, so she wouldn’t react to you and further become frustrated.
When it was over, she looked at you. “...Yeah.”
You nodded.
“We’re…” she whispered, “we’re going to be able to debut, right? Bibi is a really good singer, and Soul is an expert drummer, and Theo is such a good guitarist… I don’t want to disappoint them if I can’t keep up…”
You smiled softly. “You’re going to debut.”
Her brows furrowed, creasing over the bridge of her nose; she didn’t believe you.
“For one thing, you have me on your side. And you heard me play, so…”
“I guess… Am I really bad?”
You sighed. “You’re not terrible… you’re just a beginner.”
She frowned.
“And I have to say, for someone who’s just starting out to already have a band and a record label?” You whistled long. “Not bad. I wish I could have done that at your age.”
Her frown subsided a little. “What were you doing at my age?”
You guessed you could tell her. “Hiding my bass at a friend’s house and only practicing on the weekends because my tyrant mother wanted me to play violin instead.”
Her eyes widened in shock. “You’re lying.”
You laughed. “I wish I was.”
She thought for a moment. “Your mom sucks. Ah--!”
You laughed loudly.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that.”
“You shouldn’t be, you’re right.”
“My mom says I sometimes talk without thinking. It gets me into trouble sometimes.”
“Well, you’re not in trouble now because you’re totally right. She does suck, that’s why I don’t talk to her anymore.”
She nodded.
“But!” You clapped your hands together. “You’re not me. You don’t have to teach yourself secretly: you have a really cool bass teacher who can get your skills to where you need them to be. Okay?”
She nodded, a little more hopeful.
“So, one of the first things you need to learn is how to practice.”
“How?”
“Mhm. So there’s this guy, he’s a guitarist, but if you want to see a good representation of someone practicing by themself, you can look up Tim Henson from Polyphia - I put a couple of their songs on there - he streams his practice sessions sometimes and you can see how he goes about thinking about what he wants to practice, how he treats himself; he doesn’t get mad, he just does the part again until he finally gets it.”
She took a pen out of her backpack and wrote his name down on the song list. “Just-- over and over?”
“Yep. Breaking it down into smaller parts and working on it until he has it, maybe he tries it slower to figure it out, but then he puts the pieces together and plays it at full speed, and what do you know? Now he can play it.”
She nodded.
“‘Start slow, play it well, then get faster.’ Mark King who has a song in the ‘Holy Blisters, Batman!’ section of the paper said that. Paraphrased.”
“Ugh… I don’t want to play slow though. I hate slow songs.”
You laughed. “Did you come into the world knowing how to use chopsticks and a spoon? Or did you eat with your hands first and learn the other stuff later?”
She opened her mouth to protest but thought better of it. “I guess you’re right.”
You smiled. You remember being like that, but at least you didn’t have to respond like how your teacher did.
“Slow doesn’t mean boring, though. But the only way to play something really well when it’s fast, is to play it extremely well when it’s slow. You get the pacing of the notes down right when you play it slow, and then you can gradually speed up until you play it at full speed.”
She nodded.
“I’ll get you a metronome from the company and make you some drills so you can get better at rhythm too. As the bassist, rhythm is the thing that you and the drummer do and you have to do it well.”
“I want to do solos sometimes though.”
“And you will, but your rhythm needs to be on point for the rest of the song because, when you pick up the bass, that’s the job you give yourself.”
You tilted your head as you looked at her. She was doing a lot of nodding and quiet contemplation.
“So:” You said with a smile.
She looked up.
“Let’s go over that song again, and I’ll teach it to you.”

A/N: Shall we just pretend I didn’t forget about this story for ages?
***
Secrets and Lies, Part 8
“Mr. Forthright, I think it would be better if we went downstairs,” Kensi objected quickly as Bennet moved to open the bedroom door. Of course the creep would just have to pick the one room Deeks was inside. “Your wife might—”
Bennett pressed a finger to Kensi’s lips and if she didn’t have to keep him on her good side, she’d sincerely consider biting him. Instead, she gave him a playful look, while desperately thinking of how to move Bennett away from the door.
“Lisa is happily drinking her way through as many bottles of premium liquor as she can,” he replied. “And flirting with anything under 40 with a decent pair of biceps.” He chuckled. “She won’t even notice us missing. There’s no need to worry, Natalie.”
He opened the door, tugging Kensi inside with him, and turned a light on. For a horrible moment, Kensi feared they would need to take Deeks’ suggestion and incapacitate Bennett. Fortunately, the bedroom appeared empty.
She surreptitiously glanced around for any signs recent disturbance.
“Don’t be so shy. I don’t by. Well, not unless you ask,” Bennett chortled, taking her distraction to be hesitance. Kensi took a few more steps inside as he moved an impressionistic painting on the wall to reveal a small wall safe, which he unceremoniously unlocked. He motioned her even closer, removing a long, narrow navy box.
He took the lid off with a flourish, and Kensi made a not-at-all faked noise of shock at the sapphire necklace laying on a bed of velvet.
“See, I knew I would find something to catch your eye.”
“It’s lovely,” Kensi said truthfully.
“Would you like to try it on?” he asked, hooking the chain on his index finger.
“Oh, I couldn’t.”
“I insist.”
Ignoring Kensi’s protests, Bennett made a circular motion with his hand, and she reluctantly spun around. His hands briefly flashed into view and then his fingers brushed along the back of her neck as he held it in place.
“Lovely, indeed. Just imagine this would be just the beginning,” he murmured in her ear. The next moment, he pressed his lips just below her ear, and Kensi jerked away.
“I think we should go back downstairs,” she said, taking a stepping out of reach.
“Kensi,” Callen said warningly in her ear.
Forthright stared back at her, a gleam in his eye, and she wondered if he was going to lash out physically. Or throw her out. Instead, he threw his head back and laughed.
“Natalie, I knew I liked you for a reason. Marty is certainly a lucky man.”
Still chuckling to himself, he placed the necklace back in its case, and returned it to its spot in the safe. Before he closed the door again, Kensi saw a glimpse of several stacks of money, and what appeared to be multiple passports.
When he finished, he turned around, presenting Kensi with his arm. She let him fold her hand into his elbow, casting one more look over her shoulder as he led her out of the room.
“Just remember, I have a lot to offer,” he reminded her. They walked downstairs together, Bennett chatting away.
“If you’ll excuse me,” Kensi said once they were among the rest of the guests again.
“Don’t be too long.”
Kensi made a noncommittal sound, and escaped to the bathroom. She closed herself inside the ridiculously spacious room, turning the water at one of the sinks on full-force.
“Deeks, please tell me you’re out of there.”
“Yeah, I’m headed your way. Are you ok?” he asked softly.
“I’m fine. And I’ll be even better if you got everything we need.”
“It’s too soon to tell,” Eric responded.
“Where were you hiding, by the way?” Kensi asked, taking the opportunity to center herself.
“The closer. I feel like I’m in a Marx Brothers movie or something,” Deeks responded with enough disgust that Kensi grinned. “I can safely say I’ve never hidden in a closet. Well, there was that time in high school, but that was a special circumstance.”
“Story time will have to wait,” Callen commented.
“Ok, I’m almost to you, Kens. Then we can get the hell out of here.”
“And not a moment too soon,” Kensi muttered to her reflection.

Yellowjackets Characters Ranked from Most to Least Likely to be a Communist
The ghost of Karl Marx possessed me and made me write this.
Young Nat - I mean come on just look at her. Girlie hates the system!! My anarchist queen!! I love her.
Lisa - She's part of Lottie's intentional community, putting in the work to better herself and the community! You could tell me she's canonically a communist and I would not be surprised.
Adult Lottie - Now I don't think Lottie is a full communist. Like she's running an "intentional community," which is like basically a commune, but she also deliberately positions herself as a leader. You can even see it in the clothes she wears. Like put on the heliotrope comrade!!
Adult Van - Idk I know she criticizes Lottie's community but she just has comrade vibes to me. She's a small business owner (a girl's gotta do what she's gotta do under capitalism) keeping physical media alive!
Adult Nat - She's a bit more jaded than her younger self. Originally, she questions Lottie's community. But she does buy in when she sees and experiences the benefits!
Laura Lee - So I originally had Laura Lee pretty low because of the correlation between Christianity and conservative beliefs in our society. But our queen isn't like that!! She learned how to fly the plane for the good of the community! Helped Lottie cope when she ran out of her meds! And you know maybe neither of those things totally worked out but she was doing her best!!!!!
Crystal - If Crystal can get along with MISTY she can get along with anyone. And she was SHOOK when she learned that Misty had destroyed the black box, aka done something literally so selfish/bad for the group. I think she would do very well in a world where everyone worked together and shared resources for the good of the community.
Akilah - Idk man this is a long list they can't all be well thought out. @lottiesacolyte said she seems open to anything, so I'm just kind of putting her here. Sorry to the Akilah stans.
Young Lottie - Initially I had young Lottie super low on the list, since she's kind of a god/idol to the girlies in the woods. But upon further consideration, she doesn't actually Want that. She goes out of her way to try and Avoid becoming their leader. She just wants everyone to work together and survive. AND she said that if she died they shouldn't let her body go to waste.
Young Van - Young Van's vibes are very similar to her adult self's, but she does kind of buy in super hard to Lottie as leader. I think that under different circumstances she would be more of a communist.
Young Taissa - Young Taissa is a tricky one. Because she is soooo against the Lottie as leader stuff that everyone else is buying into. But at the same time, I feel like She wants to be the leader? Which tracks considering her adult life. I think that her and Van could have been happy living as communists together, but that's not the way life panned out for them.
Adult Shauna - Shauna is fed up with her boring suburban life. And you know what would make you happier, queen? Communism!
Randy - Okay this one is a little silly goofy. But he's just sooo down to help Jeff. Help him with blackmail, help him seem like Shauna is cheating on him. He's a real one. I don't think it's likely that Randy would be a communist but like if Jeff was doing it? Maybe!
Jeff - Very similar to Randy, I think that he would just kind of go with the flow with what everyone else is doing. He's pretty traditional, but if Shauna wanted to try communism he'd give it a whirl with her.
Javi - Javi is a child. He's an icon and I choose to believe he would adjust to communism, but let's be real he's gonna just go with the flow.
Sammy - Sammy is also a child, even more of a child than Javi. He'll do what his parents tell him to do.
Gen and Melissa - Okay I put them together because I don't know a single thing about either of them. They're side characters, they'll do whatever everyone else is doing LOL.
Mari - Mari is kind of a hater. And that's so relatable. She's kind of a go with the flow girlie. But also because of her hater energy I feel she would not immediately adjust well to communism.
Jackie - Jackie is a traditional girlie. She's used to being queen bee. She doesn' adjust well to living in the woods, and she wouldn't adjust well to communism. I think that she could if pressed! But she would be resistant, let's be honest.
Young Shauna - While Jackie's alive, Shauna will do whatever Jackie does, regardless of her own thoughts on the matter. After Jackie dies (rest in peace my girlfailure icon queen), Shauna's a little more ambitious. You think a girl who's mad she didn't get to be antler queen would be immediately down with communism? Absolutely not. I think she would adjust, but not easily.
Callie - Callie's in her edgelord, I'm cooler than everyone else era. Perhaps one day when she is older she will embrace the radical joy and love communism can provide, but for now she would Not be happy with a change in the status quo. She has big Jackie queen bee energy, and she doesn't want that to change.
Adult Travis - Travis' response to the trauma of the wilderness was to move to the middle of nowhere, so I don't think communism would quite be his vibe. But I do think that he'd be more open that his younger self, just due to life experience and Hopefully being less misogynistic now. But we don't really see a lot of him so who's to say!
Young Travis - Travis buys into so much heteronormativity and toxic masculinity nonsense that I think it would be really hard to shake it out of him.
Simone - She's married to Taissa, so she's clearly bought into the idea that a liberal government can somehow liberate us.
Adult Taissa - She's literally part of the system. Also she can eat dirt for free under capitalism, so why bother being a communist? She's a deadbeat dad, acting like providing for her family monetarily is the only thing that matters and not Love and Quality Time.
Adam - Adam would tell people he's a communist. He might even think it's true. But when push comes to shove? That man is not going to radically change his life. He's fake woke and I hate him, good riddance.
Adult Misty - She was NOT on board with Lottie's intentional community. She abuses the elderly. She murders people. Misty wants power and control, and communism wouldn't allow her to have that.
Walter - This man is RICH but instead of redistributing his wealth he bought a big fancy house and all he does is go on Reddit and be crusty and lame.
Coach Ben - They're literally stranded in the middle of nowhere and this man keeps trying to act like he's in charge? Like you only have one leg my dude, just let the girlies take care of you. And then instead of talking things out when he disagrees with the collective, he BURNS THE CABIN DOWN. Evil evil man.
Young Misty - I hate her. She's a creep. She broke the black box just because she liked feeling important. She killed Crystal to keep her secret, and doesn't even want anyone to eat Crystal's body even though everyone is starving. Keeping valuable resources from the community is NOT very communist of her.
Kevyn - ACAB!!
Jay - ACAB ACAB HE'S SO CRUSTY I HATE HIM HE'S A CREEP!!!!!!!!
