An Officer and a Gentleman (1982). A young man must complete his work at a Navy Officer Candidate School to become an aviator, with the help of a tough Gunnery Sergeant and his new girlfriend.
The Simpsons take on the final scene of this somehow was a lot more moving than the original. Look, I think RIchard Gere does his best in this, but it's a shallow film with some deep rooted misogyny and a whole lot of toxic masculinity. It reeks of military propaganda, which is a bummer, because I think there probably is a compelling film in here somewhere about the way the army chews up and spits out families on the fringes, but uh. Yeah. This ain't it. 3/10.

Franz Kafka's Letters to Milena
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[April 1920]
Meran-Untermais, Pension Ottoburg
Dear Frau Milena
The rain which has been going on for two days and one night has just now stopped, of course probably only temporarily, but nonetheless an event worth celebrating, which I am doing by writing to you. Incidentally the rain itself was bearable; after all, it is a foreign country here, admittedly only slightly foreign, but it does the heart good.
I’m living quite well here, the mortal body could hardly stand more care, the balcony outside my room is sunk into a garden, overgrown and covered with blooming bushes (the vegetation here is strange; in weather cold enough to make the puddles freeze in Prague, blossoms are slowly unfolding before my balcony), moreover this garden receives full sun (or full cloud, as it has for al- most a week)—lizards and birds, unlikely couples, come visit me: I would very much like to share Meran with you, recently you wrote about not being able to breathe, that image and its meaning are very close to one another and here both would find a little relief.
With cordial greetings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Prague, July 16, 1920]
I wanted to excel in your eyes, show my strength of will, wait before writing you, first finish a document, but the room is empty, no one is minding me-it’s as if someone said: leave him alone, can’t you see how engrossed he is in his own affairs, it’s as if he had a fist in his mouth. So I only wrote half a page and am once again with you, lying on this letter like I lay next to you back then in the forest.
There was no letter today, but I’m not afraid, Milena, please don’t misunderstand me; I’m never afraid about you, even if it sometimes seems that way and it often does-it’s simply a weakness, a mood of the heart, which knows exactly why it’s beating nevertheless. Giants have their weaknesses as well; I believe even Hercules fainted once. With my teeth clenched, however, and with your eyes before me I can endure anything: distance, anxiety, worry, letterlessness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Meran, June 4, 1920]
Friday
To begin with, Milena: What’s the apartment you wrote from on Sunday like? Full of space and empty? Are you all b yourself? Day and night? In any case it must be sad to sit there alone on a beautiful Sunday afternoon opposite a ‘stranger’ whose face is nothing but ‘stationery which has been written on.’ I am so much better off! Although my own room is small, the true Milena is here, the one who ran away from you on Sunday, and believe me being with her is wonderful.
You complain about uselessness. It was different on other days and it will be different. The one sentence (on what occasion was it uttered?) shocks you, and yet it really is so clear and has already been spoken or thought with this meaning countless times. A man plagued by his own devils takes.

TERRIFIER 3 | Teaser & Poster
Cineverse, in partnership with Bloody Disgusting, unveiled today the online teaser for Terrifier 3.
This development follows the recent announcement that Terrifier 3 will hit theaters nationwide on October 25, 2024.
During the re-release of Terrifier 2 in theaters on November 1, which came in at number 5 in gross box office, fans had the opportunity to catch the Terrifier 3 teaser. The teaser also revealed an intriguing twist—the upcoming installment will be Christmas-themed, adding an extra layer of anticipation for horror enthusiasts. In the third installment of Damien Leone’s breakout horror film, Art the Clown is set to unleash chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve.
The release date of Terrifier 3 is 2 years after its predecessor, Terrifier 2, which was released theatrically on October 6, 2022. The ultra-gory, 138-minute unrated film ravaged theaters during its highly publicized theatrical run, pulling in over $11 Million in domestic box office. During that time, Terrifier 2 found its way to mainstream press with Variety detailing how Terrifier 2 “became this year’s unlikeliest box office success” and how the film “is inspiring horror fiends and skeptics to go to their local cinemas in droves to assess the hype for themselves.” Terrifier 2 became CERTIFIED FRESH by Rotten Tomatoes and the movie even found its way onto Stephen King’s radar with the “IT” author Tweeting that Terrifier 2 is "grossin' you out old-school." The New York Times called Terrifier 2 “the little horror movie that could” while calling it “the most talked about horror movie this Halloween.”
Terrifier 2 marked the next horrifying chapter in the Art the Clown saga; in which the demonic killer, portrayed by David Howard Thornton, returns with a vengeance. Lauren LaVera became a breakout star and fans across the world embraced her as the next Final Girl. Terrifier veteran Samantha Scaffidi reprised her role as Victoria Heyes, and horror icon Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) and professional wrestler Chris Jericho (AEW) made unforgettable cameos that had audiences talking.
Writer/Director Leone said, “Terrifier 2's remarkable success was driven not only by the insatiable appetite for new and thrilling horror icons like Art the Clown but also by its unparalleled theatrical release and marketing, along with its unyielding spirit. In a cinematic landscape where risk-taking is scarce, I will continue to push boundaries in Terrifier 3,and I can’t wait for you to see what’s in store for Art the Clown.”
Set one year after its predecessor, Terrifier 2 continued the gruesome story of Art the Clown and his insatiable thirst for murder. When a sinister force resurrects Art, he is once again upon the unsuspecting residents of Miles County. Back for another Halloween, Art sets his sights on a teenage girl and her little brother, portrayed by LaVera and Elliott Fullam, respectively, delivering a chilling and relentless tale of horror.
Terrifier 2 is developed by Dark Age Cinema and Fuzz on the Lens Productions and features an original score by Paul Wiley. The film is produced by Phil Falcone, Steven Della Salla, Jason Leavy, and Michael Leavy. The list of executive producers includes Cairo Ben Amen II, Joshua Anderson, Steven Caruso, Lisa Falcone, Hank Greenberg, Marcus McGill, Larry Bilello, Steven Barton, and Thomas Smith.

Group G Breakdown
Expected to move on: Sweden, Italy
Expected to exit in group stage: South Africa, Argentina
Sweden
FIFA Ranking: 3
Reputation:
Sweden. What can I say, other than….Fuck Sweden. No, actually, they are a great team and a great group of women that are always serious contenders for the World Cup. I’m just a little bitter that they ousted the USA early from the 2016 Olympics. They finished runner-up in that tournament, and have never missed a World Cup or Olympic tournament, one of only a few teams to do so. They got silver again in 2020, and deserve a healthy respect from any team that goes up against them.
Player Pool:
Sweden has a really strong and consistent domestic league, and although the best players play in other countries, their league really strengthens the “second-string” domestic players, giving them roster depth. In a large tournament, roster depth can be the key to a winning run. Caroline Seger has the most caps for the country, and a trio of (very blonde) forwards leads goal-scoring: Stina Blackstenius, Sofia Jakobsson, and Fridolina Rolfö.
2019 WWC Performance:
They won two of their group games, but played a reserved squad against the USA and picked up a 2-0 loss. Had they used their starters, the game might have gone differently, but as it was the last game of group stage, both teams were guaranteed a place in the knockout round. They fought their way through to the consolation round after a loss to the Netherlands, then picked up third place over England. Standout players of the tournament are Asllani, Sembrandt, and Seger.
Italy
FIFA Ranking: 16
Reputation:
Italy used to be a powerhouse of women’s soccer in the 1990s, but has fallen down the rankings as other European countries strengthen. They do have a good domestic league where most of the players play, leading to a cohesive, flashy team that can hold their own against similar-ranked countries. In 2019 they had a strong performance,  but placed lower in the women’s Euros and had to go through additional qualification against other lower-ranked European teams to earn their spot in the World Cup. They are kind of a wild card in this bracket.
Player Pool:
Young offensive player Sofia Cantore has been providing organization and structure to the front line and is still in the process of building a relationship with veteran Barbara Bonansea, so this World Cup will be a test of how well they can produce goals. Arianna Caruso and Manuela Giugliano hold down the midfield, and Lisa Boattin is the standout in defense.
2019 WWC performance:
Italy has a surprisingly good start to their World Cup run, beating Australia and showing that they were a force to be reckoned with. They kept pace with Brazil and beat Jamaica, proving that their presence in the tournament was no fluke and making their bracket one of the tightest competitively. They fought their way out of the round of sixteen against China, but fell in the quarters to the Netherlands. Their versatile trio of goalscorers is made up of: Bonansea, Galli, and Girelli.
South Africa
FIFA Ranking: 54
Reputation:
This is South Africa’s second World Cup. Unfortunately, that probably won’t help them survive the group, as they are the only group without a true “debutante” in it, so they will likely end up in last place. However, they are young and full of spirit, and play with fire lit underneath them, and finished first in the African Cup of Nations in 2022.
Player Pool:
The most promising players play outside of the South African league. Thembi Kgatlana plays in the USA, and has kept pace and scored goals against top-level American opponents. Linda Motlhalo plays midfield in Scotland and for South Africa. Both of them were in the 2019 World Cup, and have played around the world, so the team will rely on them and their experience to progress from group stage.
2019 WWC performance:
South Africa finished fourth in their group, but did manage to score a goal against Spain. Kgatlana scored their lone goal.
Argentina
FIFA Ranking: 28
Reputation:
Like any South American team, Argentina lacks the funding to be on par with their men's side, but they make do with what they do have. Argentina's tournament record isn't great, mostly because they haven't been in many tournaments, but they did hold their own in their 2019 group, playing three very close games and proving their mettle.
Player Pool:
Goalkeeper Vanina Correa had an outstanding performance at the 2019 World Cup, but may not be the starter for 2023 after not many club appearances. Estefanía Banini is the most talented field player, and plays for one of the best clubs in the world, Real Madrid.
2019 WWC performance:
Without a win, their two ties were not enough to send them through to the knockout stage. This is probably unfair, as the two ties were against Japan (a difficult opponent) and Scotland.  Argentina showed their stripes in the late comeback, scoring three goals in the last 25 minutes to earn a tie and prevent Scotland from advancing.

The Body Politic: Long Island Biennial 2024
In 2024—a year of global elections, as some 60 countries representing half of the world’s populations hold regional and national leadership votes—The Heckscher Museum of Art invited Long Island artists to submit work which engages with contemporary social, cultural, or political issues. The Museum received 762 artwork submissions from 313 artists, and the result, The Body Politic: Long Island Biennial 2024 features exceptional art from contemporary artists in a compelling museum-wide exhibition that features 79 works of art accepted from 60 artists.
The jurors for the 2024 Long Island Biennial were Ian Alteveer, Beal Family Chair of the Department of Contemporary Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Patricia Cronin, sculptor, Artistic Director of the LGBTQ+ VR Museum and Distinguished Professor of Art, Brooklyn College; and Grace Hong, Assistant Director, Galerie Lelong & Co.
The artists chosen represent the breadth of communities across Suffolk and Nassau counties and the exhibition encompasses a remarkable variety of media with styles spanning abstraction to hyperrealism. “We remain committed to sharing inspiring and thought-provoking new art with our visitors.” said Heather Arnet, Executive Director & CEO. The 8th edition of the Long Island Biennial “will resonate with the entire community given the diversity in artists and the universality of the important themes in their work.”

Here Lies my Legacy Save.
Computer died, lost years of play, and so the records I was keeping are now done being collected and are now simply kept.
I WAS renaming my sims by generation because I couldn't tell who was what generation in gameplay and it made it weird when they had the same childhood crush as their children. So the first generation was A-named, next was B, etc.
I did rename some of them funky, I didn't rename others, and some I tried to rename but failed because I couldn't get the names to stick.
All of Gen C were born to played Sims.
Last/family names were mixed from the parents, whose were mixed from their parents. Manning and Falcon became Falman, and when Falman and Blackburn got together, they became Falburn.
When two of the same names have babies (usually because sibling affairs with in-laws), I mixed it up. Once, it was a lady who seduced a mother and son, so Beckman plus Scales became Scaleman and Beckscales. I tend to keep it at 1-5 syllables at most, generally 2, so it's not too messy, but I definitely start losing great grandparent names.
The 'official' records are: Snapshots, where I recap a household at time of switching families and Eulogies, where I recap a Sim's lifetime after their deaths.
Families always went Teen Daughter, Child Son in the beginning. I tried to go by household, but it turns out that those constantly change in ways that don't record well. ^ ^;
Due to length and link issues, I will likely be making a second page for Table of Contents. The links on this page are Eulogies
In only some order, my Save started with...
The Pancakes Family - married pair Bob and Eliza
The Whitfield Family - Craig, Dana, and their children Katherin and Stetson
The Angel Family - Lance, Ellie, and their children Danika and Waylon
The Overton Family - Jennifer and Maddox
The Cullen Family - Anna and her son Valentino
The Pike Family - Gabrielle and Rory, and their children Shawn and Jordan
The York Family - Cleo, and her children Ahmad and Fatima
The Pace Family - Katrina, and her children Kristina and Jefferson
The Scales Family - Shieu, and her children Janice and Dawson
The Holloway Family - Susan, and her children Evageline and Barry
The Brice Family - Chad and Nadine, and their son Walton
The Spencer-Kim-Lewis-Davis Family - Grandparents Dennis and Lydia, Parents Alice and Eric, and child Olivia
The Helton Family - Teens Dillon and Fernanda, and their grandparents who died early

The McFarland Family - An old man and his unofficially adopted son, Javier
The Landgrabb Family - married couple Nancy and Geoffrey and YA son Malcolm
The Banks Family - Ayden, Krysten, and their children Lillian and Alan
The Walters Family - Husband and Wife whose names were lost by the game
The Caruso Family - Single Mother whose name was eaten by the game and her son Judah
