Author's Note: This is my first fanfiction in almost fifteen years :o This is surprisingly also the first i've ever written for Dean, so i really hope you enjoy <3

Summary

After leaving an abusive relationship with help from your best friend Cas, you aim to start fresh with your new roommates Charlie and Jo this upcoming junior year at University. You settle into your new life—but wounds from the past seem to be reopened. When Cas introduces you to Dean, a Automotive Engineer major with a complicated past of his own, you start to develop feelings, and believe that you can heal together.

But shadows from your old life are never far away. You are being watched from afar. As your feelings for Dean grow, you struggle to let him in, fearing your baggage will put him in danger. When the stalker’s threats escalate, your forced to confront a horrifying truth: your ex-boyfriend is lurking, and has a lethal motive.

The ups and downs of battered lovers in this blossoming relationship in the midst of their schooling...will this bring Dean and you together for worse or for better?

Although, heed this warning. In Rearview, the past is always closer than it appears.

john winchester was a deadbeat dad but dean honestly deserves an award for the shit he pulled on ben braedan. dude acted as his dad for a year, arguably longer, before just mind-wiping him and moving on? so what, ben shows up at his middle school and looks like an idiot when people ask where his step-dad is? always longs for something that he can’t put a finger on, tells himself it must just be the vague idea of a father, since he’s never had one? comes home at thirteen to his mom sobbing in the living room, asks desperately what’s wrong and she just howls that she doesn’t know?

i'll stan lisa braedan if no one else will. the thing about the chintz wife is she is building a life, keeping a house, feeding her man and it's still not enough. however much she has there is always something more the homewrecker can give the husband that's not even in the same realm as what she and him have. and conversely . . . . what the chintz wife has the homewrecker craves. he and the husband can never get up off the floor.

Rewatching S03E02 - Changelings

This episode has the introduction of Lisa Braedan, a character I actually liked. But, considering I now know the wider implications her character has, I don’t like her so much now. She is another woman specifically introduced as a love interest and I feel like she should have been a one off but the characterisation she has in this episode makes me feel like the writers always had her as a part of Dean’s happy ending. The fact that she has a son who literally acts and dresses like Dean serves a two way function. First, it offers hilarity and secondly, Lisa automatically becomes even more appealing to Dean because being with her means Dean gets a family.

The changelings are not the best MOTW but the mother and girl who are the second focus of this episode are amazing. That actress deserves an award she was so good and I feel kind of bad that Dean and Sam never directly interact with her because she did a stand-up job.

2. A character you headcanon as Grayromantic

Lisa Braedan, from Supernatural.

........ *cricket chirp*

Okay, but hear me out. 

I think it'd be fairly safe to see Lisa as an allosexual individual. In her youth, she had sex with a lot of guys, with Dean Winchester being only one among them. And there's a lot of debate over whether Dean is the biological father of her son, Ben (Lisa says he's not, but some fans either just flat out don't believe her, or think that a demon who possesses Lisa isn't lying when it contradicts Lisa's earlier statements). But the fact that there's a debate at all proves, if nothing else, that Lisa got around a lot, and that, if she is telling the truth, then she was with Ben's father not long before or after she was with Dean. 

And yet, when Dean meets up with her eight years later, Lisa is a single mom, with no apparent sign or desire that she's ever wanted to get married, or have a long-term romantic relationship at all. 

I headcanon Lisa as grayaro, because she doesn't strike me as a person who generally wants or needs to be in love with someone. She likes sex, sure, but being in love with someone? Nah. She's happy as a clam as she is.

But sometimes, she does fall in love. In this case, it's Dean. "Best night of her life, Dean", Dean who wanders back into her life completely out of the blue, and unexpectedly connects with her child and then saves him, Dean who she wouldn't mind staying again, Dean who is broken and lost and that she's scared for, Dean who trusted her enough to come to her when the rest of his world was shattered, Dean who tries so damn hard for her and Ben both, who finds it so hard to let them in and try to help him glue himself back together, Dean who becomes their family and makes a home with them for a year, Dean who sometimes scares her a little bit, Dean who she knows that she can't ever truly keep, who she can't bear having just one foot in the door, and so no matter how much it hurts, she has to let him go. 

Dean, who keeps popping back into her life, defying the years in between.

Dean Winchester, whom she tells that she's trying to get over him, whom she asks to let her move on. 

One of the things that I love about Dean and Lisa's relationship on the show, is that to me, they're both special for each other. 

For Dean, he thinks that if he could ever have an apple pie life, it'd be with Lisa. 

For Lisa, who I think rarely experiences or desires romantic love and attraction, here is this devastating man who works his way into the corners of her life in a way that she's never experienced before. 

And I think Lisa Braedan would be a great (gray)aro representative, because so often those who identify on the aro spectrum are told, "Well, you just haven't met the right person yet."

Well, Lisa did. And when she felt that it would be the best for herself and her son, she broke up with that person, and she started to move on. Because she's never needed Dean Winchester, or being in romantic love with someone, to be a whole being, or to be happy. It may hurt now, but she knows she'll be just fine.
