Today, as I celebrate my 50th birthday, I reflect on the journey that has brought me here—filled with challenges, triumphs, and, most importantly, purpose. My commitment to animals has never wavered, even as the world around us has shifted with the tides of trends and self righteous fads. In a time when so much feels fleeting, I’ve tried to hold steadfast to my core values, principles, and promises, despite sometimes having to face off with some truly vile antagonists.

The Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary's mission is to provide a self-sustaining African carnivore sanctuary for the purposes of wild species preservation through education, awareness and funding, especially pertaining to the rapid decline of large carnivores in Africa due to habitat loss, human-predator conflict, unscrupulous hunting, disease and their illegal trade.

To raise awareness, Kevin has now set up his YouTube Channel 'LionWhispererTV'. The channel is all about raising awareness about not only the declining numbers of lions, but also how this rapid decrease is happening. By watching these videos, you are directly contributing to our scheme of land acquisition.

Kevin captures the majority of his footage on GoPro cameras, allowing the viewer to get as close as possible to the lions.

By doing this, Kevin hopes to give people an insight into the lives of these beautiful creatures and to let them see just what they can do to help. You can nearly touch them.

esterday, Vayetse found something to stalk and chase on his enrichment walk. It’s incredible to see how his demeanor went from happy go lucky, big pussy cat, to laser focused lethal machine. Don’t worry, for those who like happy endings, he just wasn’t quick enough. But the burrow did keep him entertained for hours, while he tried to dig a hole to Australia

#WildlifeWednesday Lion Love from @lionwhisperersa ##repost “To deny Bobcat his chin scratches and head bumps is to deny him oxygen. He’s probably the most talkative lion in the sanctuary but what makes our relationship even more special to me, is the fact that he doesn’t allow anyone into or near his personal space. So to be accepted like this is a real privilege that I don’t take for granted. I work closely with over 20 lions but the bond shared with Bobcat is incredibly special. Real relationships take time, patience, perseverance and commitment, just like human ones, so it always perplexes me as to why people think that they’re entitled to the same relationship I have with Bobcat or any other animal or human for that matter, without putting in any effort. Even after putting in all that effort, it still doesn’t guarantee you of anything, but certainly puts the odds more in your favour. That’s the wonderful thing about life, there just aren’t any guarantees which is why I’m saddened by the disconnect that humans have started to forge between themselves and the natural world. We want zero risk and all the reward. The two unfortunately don’t go hand in hand. So walking through the bush has now become foreign and too dangerous for humans, but trundling through the bush, from the comfort of a game viewing vehicle getting up close to animals that we would otherwise never approach on foot is deemed normal and okay.
