I have suuch mixed feelings about season three of MCD. Like the general consensus (that I agree with) is that it sucks. But I think Lo and Liochant are really interesting and I forget they're season three exclusives. I always find myself using more concepts from season three than I expected to.
Season three was not fun to watch and it had some huge holes but I think that there are some really good nuggets if you can polish them properly and I kind of wish we had more Lo and Liochant content

So my lazy ass actually finished watching MCD S3 recently and I gotta say it was the most boring shit of all time. Like it was so boring that I deadass put off watching it for months because I wanted to watch things that actually had a little bit of action to them lol. The only thing that kept I found interesting about the season was the whole Gene and Dante conflict but even then I feel like it could have been written better :/ Also I fucking HATE what they did with Zane's character in this season!!! Like I thought the whole idea of Zane coming back as a Shadow Knight was pretty cool but then he just didn't feel nearly as evil as he was in S1. Which is such a damn shame cuz I love me some horrendously twisted villains (sometimes I prefer MCD Zane over MS Zane oof-). And while this isn't just a S3 specific issue, I just don't appreciate how some characters get completely forgotten and are never mentioned again in the story. Like where is Alexis? Where is Kyle? Where is Dale and Molly (cuz FUCK CANON I firmly cannot believe that those two would ever leave Phoenix Drop like that dammit). And the one that has always bothered me ever since I watched this series as a kid... WHERE THE FUCK IS BRIAN AND WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM??!!! That's the question that'll always bug me no matter how old I get it seems. But anyways, S3 is not good and it being left on a stupid cliffhanger doesn't help either. Now if you'll excuse me, I am going to be watching Dante specific episodes of MCD S1 to cleanse my palette.
#mcd#minecraft diaries#aphmau#aphverse#idk if liochant debuts in mcd specifically but#he (and dante ofc) were one of the only reasons why i kept watching s3#liochant is just so babygirl to me i love him sm <3

levin and malachai headcanons
- they have a SEVERELY complicated relationship with Aphmau. they were kids when she left, levin around 4, and malachai was physically around 7. levin barely remembers her, and malachai was rarely even around her. she was always busy. levin hates her for abandoning him. he hears all of these stories of people holding her on a pedestal, but she left him. malachai understands a bit more. he's lived a longer life. he understands that people come and go and might not have a choice in the matter. that doesn't mean he holds much respect for aphmau. she's one of the only people who knows about his bio parents and how they abandoned him. and then she did the same.
- garroth is levin's biological father. honestly, at this point, the entire fandom has decided this is canon. but in this universe, garroth ACTUALLY steps up as a father figure to him. honestly, you know how garroth and liochant take care of lilith and alina all the time in mcd 3? that's basically garroth and laurance with levin and malachai here.
- laurance and malachai spent a lot of time together, both before and after the time jump. laurance understands him in a way no one else can. they've both lost their parents, and they've both spent years mourning people who never truly loved them. malachai calls laurance "dad", and laurance sometimes calls him "kid".
- when levin zoey and malachai first came back to Phoenix Drop, levin used to pray to the statue of lady irene to bring his mom back to him. like full blown, on his knees, sobbing, asking for his mother back. and when he found out that they were in the irene dimension, and that his mother WAS irene, he flipped. the healing that he had done to try and repair things with aphmau, was completely undone. they still have a hard time talking about it.
- malachai wanted to be lord of phoenix drop. he wanted to lead the phoenix alliance island. he wanted to be in charge, and he knew he could handle it. but levin was always "the rightful heir" and it pissed him off. he loves his brother, but he doesn't think he's responsible enough for the job.
- levin and malachai have a strained relationship, too. they were extremely close as children, and as teens, but once levin took on the position as lord everything kind of crumbled. levin was busy, malachai was jealous. he would find assignments, that would take long voyages, and assign them to himself. over time, malachai became a diplomat, and was reaching out to the villages that used to be part of the phoenix alliance. he wanted to do something notable. he wanted to keep his mother's legacy going. and he wanted to surpass her. too bad she's a literal goddess 🤷
have fun with this one, crazies

Okay, something I feel like could have made all of the hate that Tu'la characters got during season 3 make more sense would be if it was combined with the pro-human sentiment that already existed in the MCD universe. (aka Liochant should've been a meif'wa for stuff to make sense)
In MCD we already see a large amount of discrimination and unfound hatred occur for non-human characters. Werewolves and Shadow Knights being the most feared with several instances where they are shunned from villages. Werewolves even have an entire arc in season one revolving around it and it is established very early on when Aphmau arrives at Brightport. We even see Shadow Knight vs Shadow Knight hostility when it comes to Laurance and Vincent because Vincent is a full fledged one, which makes Laurance, someone who should be more understanding, immediately mistrust him. Travis is also another example, with him being ostracized for being half demon-warlock.
Meif'wa are not exempt from this either, with many of them being believed to be either docile and weak OR distrusting and thievish. (Cause Aphmau loved Skyrim and took a lot from there, like the Khajit racism) We see Katelyn have a full mental breakdown because she was turned into one, with her not wanting to be a weak cat. A main cast person who displays anti-meif'wa sentiments (I looove Katelyn, don't take this as hate). Now if we take into account the fact that Tu'la is canonically mostly Meif'wa, it would make a lot more hate not come out of left field story wise.
The current enemies in Aphmaus life rn are: Shad and the Shadow Knights, The Werewolf Kingdom (cause Laurance), and Tu'la due to their invasion of O'khasis, all non-human enemies. Aphmau and the other people confirmed to have relics are humans, or at least very human passing like Travis who is still half human. So it would make sense that the discrimination would continue/enhance because of Aph's enemies being non-human.
It would also make Garroth's hatred of Liochant be different, as his is purely a "this man comes from my enemies country" but not due to him being a meif'wa. Giving him an arc of "I just hate him due to where he is from, not his race so I am more noble" when he truly is just like the rest, which is a character trait Garroth has. There are several moments where he holds his flaws to a higher standard. (He's not like other girls and I love him for it.)

Now, what I was actually getting to in the ask before I pocket sent. Onto names and languages
In regards to Liochant, it is of my belief that he doesn't use his actual name but a metaphorical translation. His actual name being Lais Ravanah Havilah, or Lions Roar of the Sands. First two names being translated to Lions Chat then to Liochant. In his native writing system, it's ꖎᔑ╎ᓭ ∷ᔑ⍊ᔑリᔑ⍑ ⍑ᔑ⍊╎ꖎᔑ⍑ (minecraft enchantment table)
Kul'Zak was fun for me because his name reminds me of Aztec and he is the only one we don't have a definitive country/region of origin of or region of worship, meaning I can go full Aztec on this one while making it fit.
While the majority of the Divine Warrior names are rather random or made up. (Chosen from video game characters and such) Enki is actually named after the Sumerian god of magic and wisdom so me naming Kul'Zak after an aztec God wouldn't be out of place. Well, at least as not as out of place as Shad, who is one letter away from just being called Chad. Anyway, this is why I am headcannoning that Kul'Zak unshortened/un-nicknamed name is Quetzalcóatl, named after the aztec God of Winds, Rain, and a Creation.
While out of order it does share similar speech pronunciations, and as some who has had friends with an indeginous aztec name, people will give the wildest nicknames to them instead of actually pronouncing it. (Rip my old friend Xóchitl, who teachers just referred to as Zoey, Texas things y'all.)
oooo i love name stuff.
Avra is actually a name in a language i made for my rewrite. It's basically an in-world equivalent of 'Jane Doe'. it means a (typically, but not exclusively) feminine individual without a name, or known identity. In some areas, the differentiations between the versions of the name (Avra, Avre, Avron) are regional instead of gender-based, or refer to different religions.
It comes from the word Avret (to not have a name, which derives from Aven - name, and Rel - to not have).
-A is the typical suffix for: individual feminine, someone who is soft spoken, someone who believes in wild gods, or someone with dark hair.
The name is used for unnamed newborns, unidentified corpses, or those who wish to revoke their names for some 'higher purpose'. this is also often used to refer to strangers, in a more casual manner. because of this, when Avra is referred to as such in texts, people just assume she doesnt have a name, and add 'nameless' to a bunch of her titles.

the big problem with the aphverse attempts to tackle bigotry is that they start and end with the premise of "bigotry is always wrong and unjustified. it should never be tolerated.".
which isn't that bad of a premises, mind you. im not here to be pro-bigotry. but literally every time they attempt to write a main character who's struggling with their own internal bigotry, their prejudice is always a direct result of having a loved one who was a victim of a violent crime at the hands of a group of supremacists from whatever minority group they have an issue with.
bigotry as a result of trauma is a very nuanced discussion, but the aphverse doesn't believe in nuance. so we get takes like "garroth is an unreasonable asshole for not liking liochant because he's a stranger from the region holding his father hostage who has managed to get himself a high ranking position in ru'aun after a suspiciously short length of time" and "katelyn's a werewolf racist because she's uncomfortable around werewolves after the time her little brother was a victim of an anti-human hate crime. she needs to get over herself."

9, 22 and 27 for you good friend!!
09. personal bias aside, who do you think is the best written character and why?
regarding MCD oh katelyn absolutely no question. plot threads and arcs can get a little all over the place but katelyn has a consistent motiv/arc she follows through on s1-2 with her defection and everything, we love you katelyn <333 ugh queen
For mystreet well tbh. uhh. s1-3 zane is the only one who had a solid like. arc (?) about opening up and making friends. (not that he should be opening up to these ppl theyre all assholes to him lmfao) so much happens in mystreet and the quality, ranges. s1-3 was like a sitcom but then s4-6 were so much idk.
22. who's the character that you most identify with and why?
i dont think i identify with any of these guys honestly. theyre all very different from me,. mystreet liochant ig, bc he does nothing <3
27. what's something really interesting that you wished canon decided to explore more? alternatively, what's something interesting that you wished the fandom acknowledged more?
OH THERES SOSOSSOSOSOS MUCH goign on mystreet concepts first uhm s4-6 i dont like ghost but her concept is so insane but the fucking execution but like she literally cant remember anything about her life other than the name zane & like love. which she interprets as oh he must be the love of my life or smthin so shes obsessed with him but extremely strongly implied (or outright confirmed id have to rewatch) this is the ghost of emmalyn from mcd and the reason she remembers zane is bc MCD zane literally killed her husband in front of her its so crazy. thinking the reincarnation of the guy who killed your soulmate is your one true love bc you cant remember why you know him AHHHHHHH
s1-3 mystreet im blankin on a lot of it. idk garroth repsect ur brothers boundries more or smthin </3 wish they leaned more into the hilarity of zane being part of the homeowners association. wwe only got the ep where he judges christmas decorations for a competition. ohhh wait they shouldve leaned more into zane being an outcast and why bc theyre kinda like hes a dick ig? even tho like. he reasonable defensive and shit bc the people around him are like. constantly making fun of him. i think he deserves to be a little bit of a dick.
MCD JUST LIKE>> TRAVIS IN GENERAL HIS CONCEPT GOES SO INSANE AND THEN THEY JUSARGHHH like his dad is the demon lord and he grew up solely with his mom and is extremely outcast at the village he protects FROM HIS DAD bc of his parentage and the dude literally spends all his time alone after his mother died he has so much compassion for people who hate him it goes so crazy. and hes so ashmed of his demon side im ahhhh. hes always lurking in ym brain
and dante and gene dante and gene. pov youre orphans and your big brother is doing something terrible so you report him and he winds up being hanged for it and he comes back as an undead monstrosity and kills literally everyone in your hometown ((i realize i have misremebered it was a memory wipe not killing but so many village wipes happen in this series can you blame me)) but you and you are haunted by the guilt you feel. its hard but you end up finding a new place to call home and new people to call family until one day theyre gone and you do your best to help your little struggling village and you perservere until one day 15 years later theyre back and havent aged a day. you thought they were gone.
also just fucking getting to see dante age and get married and become a father while gene is stuck in the same 20 y/o body goes crazy. what happens when you outgrow your big brother
also hmm i dunno. i think we should all aprreciate brenden more. also kiki & zane are so we need to talk about that more

Okay okay okay, you gave me two ideas spawned from your musings and feel free to expand! So, I am redoing Liochants backstory and general vibe (as in I might not even keep him a meif'wa) so now I am giving myself some freedom. Feel free to add to it! I am here for it!
1. Based on your smelling of fire and rot one
(This is kind of continuing with the current Lio plan, aka Leopard Lio) Liochant's fire magic comes partially from his training as a Menphia priest and just natural affinity. After being captured for rebelling against the kind, his magic was sealed improperly, so he has little control. So he constantly smells like fire and ash and will burn himself as he will occasionally burn to hot for his body to handle.
Before he becomes a maid at Aphmaus, he does gain some control, but if driven to a point of extreme anger, he will lose it. Also, when he changes to animal form, like most meif'wa, his leopard form will also set ablaze on occasion. Making it terrifying and harmful to everyone involved because watching a flaming leopard rip someone's face off is the scariest thing to think about.
2. Based on your animal body one
Human Liochant, except he is not staying human. He also has fire magic, but it is unaffected by this curse for the moment, though he is still a bit unstable and prone to clumsiness. A side effect of not getting proper training. Liochant speaks with a slight lisp and has very tough and smooth skin, sharp fanged teeth, and slitted pupils, similar to that of a meif'wa but not quite. WERE-SNAKE LIOCHANT! (Or Lamia/Naga/Gorgon Liochant, still undecided)
Liochant gained the curse in some form of classic fairytale fashion, his parents slighted some spirit or witch OR Liochant went and played where he was not supposed to and was bitten by a mythical snake. It is 100% a curse he has been living with his entire life and allows him to turn into a snake. Every solstice and equinox he is trapped in his snake form, and should Liochant ever be on the brink of death, his body turns into a monster or something. Idk.
I am either or, cause I do find snakes cool but leopards are so adorable and the idea of being groomed by a big cat is so cute. Also the idea of a sweet princess being followed around by a large leopard or a snake is just hilarious.
yayy my musings have inspired!!
I'm personally using curse¹ for my own workings, so I won't share with the general Tumblr population. It's cool, your honor. I promise.
Having fire magic attuned to emotions is a thing I love dearly; especially if that person's emotions are erratic. Such untapped potential.
So, since the scent of rot is a curse interesting to you: why would Aphmau and co allow Liochant to surround both Alina and Lilith?
I think being bitten by a mythical snake as a kid and then living with the consequences would be very intriguing. "Oh yeah, that's just a thing I've been dealing with". Very "oh yeah, whatever" with a dosage of "bro??? You good????".
Followed by a big leopard or snake would be great!! I do think people seeing a snake follow 2 children, would cause suspicion and worry amongst the townsfolk.... Stuff and things, stuff and things
Eee

Round 1 - Group 10: Phoenix Drop
Kiki (Brendan’s older sister, Leona’s mom; she can understand animals, loves animals, and takes care of a lot of them; everyone calls her Kiki because of her laugh) - Liochant the Devout Blade (guard, Dragon Ward; from Tu’la and is speculated to be a spy because of that)

I have no idea how some of the ships came to be in this fandom but I am here for it. I am not that big of a shipper but I always love seeing the art and writing. I like the Vylad x Zenix stuff, Garrancemau stuff, Katelyn x Cadenza, and Matyrs Shad x Avra x Garroth stuff. Heck! Even though I never saw it, That-ones Liochant x Garroth stuff is kinda cute.
This fandom update made me realize how stupid the shipping wars I did in middle school were, and it's nice!

I have heavily redesigned Liochant out of love. The character had so much potential but no effort put into him. No character redesigned out of hate, though.
Hello, it is Brutus and I have a question for Aphblr based on the host's behaviour when rewriting MCD.
Which character have you heavily redesigned because you love them, and which character have you heavily redesigned because you hate them?

So, in my fanfic, Garroth's love interests have been Aphmau, Laurence (unresolved unknown mutual pinning), and Liochant
Aphmau - The literal goddess of the church he grew up under
Laurence - A man who has literally been to hell and turned into a monster by a cruel god.
Liochant - A technical priest of a furious goddess now in a foreign land where she isn't worshipped.
Garroth love interests are just religious trauma.

I said i would do this so here i present to you the underrated beef between katelyn and garroth i.e. the epitome of wlw mlm hostility
in diaries when katelyn first arrives in season 1 everyone is distrustful of her. obviously because she pulled up in a massive okasis ship and implied that aphmau had something to do with jeffory’s death. right off the bat garroth and katelyn’s relationship gets off with a great start when katelyn wishes to meet aphmau and garroth stands in her way,, saying that “before you get to her you address me.” in true katelyn fashion she responds by threatening to pull his tongue out. i love her sm <3
this first interaction defines their relationship for the rest of the season; full of distrust and doubt. although everyone else may be slowly accepting katelyn and realising that she truly is on their side garroth still holds his suspicions. katelyn on the other hand treats garroth as well as she treats everyone else and doesn’t seem interested in conflict with him. until the final episode. because everyone else is incompetent and is too busy listening to zane’s disney villain speech katelyn is the only who attempts to actually get the amulet garroth stole out of his hand. she tackles him and they get into a proper brawl. no swords,, no claws literally just them kicking it on the grass. garroth unfortunately overpowers katelyn and obviously we know the rest.
over the course of season 2 katelyn bonds with everyone and finds her place amongst the cast,, finally settling into the role as a guard of aphmau’s. in contrast to the main trio of aphmau,, laurence and garroth in season two it’s now aphmau,, laurence and katelyn. now i don’t think katelyn replaced garroth per say (i actually think laurence did as he and aph developed a similarly intense relationship like she did with garroth that she just does not with katelyn) but she gains the same amount of trust aphmau had in garroth. he and katelyn have very similar personalities,, both being quiet stoic individuals but having a more fun,, adventurous side underneath. both hiding beneath formal language and deathly stares they act as the support pillars of the group.
the main difference between these two is that katelyn was eventually able to loosen up a little whilst garroth still remains fairly uptight in season 3. obviously it is partially just his personality but,, to me at least,, it always felt like he was holding something back,, especially considering how we see him act in mystreet.
speaking of season 3,, the most interesting part of their history! i think some of us forget that when garroth returned from the irene dimension he had missed months worth of developments. he likely barely recognised katelyn,, completely different from her cool collected self all the way back in season 1. he was not there for the entirety of her development as a character. last time he saw her all of his friends only slightly tolerated her and now she’s best buds with them?? aphmau,, his lord,, trusts and speaks fondly of her??? garroth did not know katelyn. all he knew was the flashes of kicking her to the ground as she scratched at his face. his last memory of her was her attacking him. there’s a clear dissonance between them in season 3,, a conflict even. by then they have had 3 whole years to get to know one another and they still act like they did when they first met: arguing and threatening each other.
i think a key example of this is garroth’s suspicions of liochant. he suspects he may be a spy from tu’la and insists on it again and again. katelyn on the other hand finds his distrust insane,, especially considering liochant is a part of her group the dragon’s ward. they fight constantly about this throughout the season and even have a fierce argument about it that is only put to a halt by aphmau yelling at them.
they don’t trust the other’s judgment at all. they refuse to believe the other can be right about anything and are so childish about it that during their argument about liochant they start bringing up each other’s families.
they don’t feel like friends is what i’m trying to say.
across all their iterations i’ve had this impression of katelyn and garroth’s relationship. they feel more like two people who share a lot of mutual friends so end up occupying the same space and consistently have to be around each other,, even if they’d rather not to. their more pure and sweet interactions happen in pdh (e.g. garroth joining katelyn to aaron’s senior prom) when they’re still in their youth,, yet to be scarred by the world. as adults bruised by their surroundings and long having put up their respective shields they cannot open up to one another. you can’t exactly make conversation if you’re both just brick walls.
#i’m so emotionally invested in their relationship#how different yet similar they are is just chefs kiss#i wish they interacted more so i could get more of a grasp on what exactly they consider each other as#cuz again they don’t feel like true friends#but at the same time they’ve known each for so long#aphblr#aphmau#aphverse#minecraft diaries#aphmau minecraft diaries#garroth ro'meave#katelyn the fire fist

Yeaaah, the best thing with how I am doing Liochants backstory is that since he is a gladiator, he was taught how to dominate AND entertain on a battlefield. So it will be a SIGHT! Garroth can only top Liochant out of desperation, a "I need you now"
In regards to actual romance I do think it's Garroth in control there. The man made flower crowns, no way in hell it won't be him. Trying to decide between three starting incidents/ the order of romance clichés I want to do
- Snowy area, Liochants from a desert, series of unfortunate events, BODY HEAT (if chosen going to be Garroths "Oh crap I'm in love" moment)
- Liochant has to protect Garroth while weilding Garroths sword, gets injured, healing time while Garroth thinks about Liochant handling other swords. Will involve Garroth finally learning about Liochant's actual past because the man has some horrible scars.
- Garroth has to deal with a woman who runs an essentially himbo brothel in Tu'la, Liochant knows this, decides to paint a "this man is married to a priest of menphia" symbol on his chest, a full gay crisis from Garroth. (This one is purely for jokes but I have slightly become attached to the idea)
“Damn my bitch is gonna be near other bitches… gotta mark him as mine I guess”
