im so tired. im so tired! im so tired.
it’s been twenty fucking seven years of desperate scrambling and im doing all the things im supposed to- getting genetic testing and regular checkups and doing my best to be a good patient to try and thwart any nasty little surprises so i don’t fucking drop dead at forty-three like my mom, i have an expensive STEM degree i almost died getting and im sixty fucking thousand dollars in debt for, i have a car, i have a solo apartment literally for my health where i don’t have to worry about anyone else putting me in danger, i have one of those desirable tech jobs, my work is quoted in Fucking Goddamn Forbes regularly, and i am seriously considering going to the food bank i donate money to bc i! don’t! get! paid! enough! i started this video game journey at $35k a year as an assistant, it was really clear within the first six months i was doing full data analyst shit, i got a $2.5k raise to shut me up and got told everyone gets evaluated for raises in June, i have waited patiently, and i got a $5k raise to $42.5k a year which is fucking insulting for the amount of work (independent, dependable, clean data work) that i do. i did the last quarterly report essentially on my own and produced another fifteen pages of analysis for an ancillary report. i should be making minimum $55k.
it also feels Really Bad to complain bc my job is basically “go on the computer” and not interact with anyone and it’s perfect. i don’t really have to do a whole lot of crunchy analysis, i barely use any of my skills. i have not learned any new skills at this job, just a fuck of a lot of industry knowledge that i can’t use bc i can’t work in games for three years after i leave.
however, in order to just sort of turn my brain off and put things in google sheets, this company really does need someone with the expensive degree and the stats knowledge and the data experience i have, but they don’t want to fucking pay me a fair market rate.
i have been dealing with a Health Thing and a roommate situation since last august but now it’s in more of a holding pattern and im out of that house i have more energy to go Hey Wait A Minute. and im really fucking mad i didn’t go Hey Wait A Minute earlier.
i don’t want to leave this job i don’t want to go parade around with my resume again and i really really don’t want to work in person. i want to stop fucking worrying about money and i want a job i don’t hate that i can leave at 5PM on the dot. and i have most of that here but certainly not all of it. im pretty fucking certain they will be unwilling to give me a $10k plus raise so im trying to make my peace with quitting before i finish drafting this email im agonizing over to my boss in the morning bc the worst she can say is no and then i peace the fuck out. im also still trying to make my peace with leaving the old apartment that i loved very much. and this (unfortunately, bc everything in my life is on the same discordant theme) i hate all of this so fucking much, i hate uncertainty, i hate change, i hate not being respected as a person or for my work
i have to fight really Fucking hard for really basic shit like “a day where i don’t want to dissolve down the shower drain” or “a very basic standard of independent living” and im So Fucking tired. also i never fucking want to think about crypto ever again
how do i go “the raise you offered me is insulting on top of an already criminally low salary, you need to fix this or im leaving”
