Friday Fic Rec 10/4
Thanks as always for your submissions! Titles are links to each fic.
The Swap by VioletTimes
“It’s an AU with an almost Beauty and the Beast type of vibe. The writing is excellent and the slow burn is masterful.”
Description: Anthony Bridgerton is the most powerful Duke in England and likely its next king. But since he came back from the war his reputation is less than stellar. Considered to be both a brilliant strategist and a ruthless monster, all of England is afraid of him and the Sheffield sisters are no exception. So when Edwina is forced to be sent to marry the monstrous Duke, Kate doesn't even hesitate before swapping places to protect her sister from such a horrible fate.
WIP (9/39) - E - 43k words
loyal to what matters by @suitsusboth
“This fic is so well-written! The author is amazing at world-building. It’s a slow burn between Kate and Anthony, but totally worth it.”
Description: Anthony Bridgerton is an outlaw and had been riding with the Brunswick-Lüneburg gang for years now. They are his family-- a family that took him and his siblings in when they had no other place to go. But one big heist gone terribly wrong had them on the run, the law closing in on them like never before. Many forces work against the gang as they try to fix things in the aftermath as they are chased across the states-- gaining and losing friends alike. Loyalty is the cornerstone of their gang. But as things start to unravel, and as the alluring and equally infuriating Kate Sharma starts to shine light on aspects of his lifestyle, Anthony has to figure out what is worth being loyal to... and what it might cost in the end.
WIP (6/?) - M - 52k words
The Air I Breathe and The Bane of My Existence by the_loosest_moose
“Two separate stories, both creative modern takes on season 2's (not the book's) storyline. Also, these are textfics with accessible counterparts, so it took a hell of a lot of work to put these together on top of writing the actual story. I dream of this author coming back to write for this fandom.”
Description (The Air I Breathe): Anthony Bridgerton is a typical NYC hotshot attorney – self-important, tenacious, and highly promiscuous. He’s casually dated for years, but he’s getting older and is thinking about settling down. Enter Kate Sharma. She’s a brilliant special education lawyer, and though she’s entirely career-oriented herself, she’s trying to help her younger sister Edwina get back into the dating scene after ending a long relationship. Anthony and Edwina meet, and Edwina is immediately charmed. Unfortunately, Kate suspects that Anthony is not the kind, gentle person he pretends to be. Though Anthony and Edwina begin dating, things start getting complicated when Anthony and Kate realize they may have feelings for each other.
Complete - E - 61k words (accessible version 94k words)
Description (The Bane of My Existence): Kate Sharma and Anthony Bridgerton both have high stress jobs. When friends/family force each of them to attend a week-long silent meditation retreat to relax, neither takes it seriously (or is very happy about it). After a few flirty exchanges between them, things get steamy, and they try to make the most of their otherwise frustrating week. Though they part ways expecting their time together to have been no more than a fling, when they return home, it becomes apparent that Kate and Anthony aren’t the total strangers they thought they were.
Complete - E - 64k words (accessible version 104k words)
Remember the Time by Anonymous
Description: I read PonderRose's The Son Between Us and wondered how it would play out in the show.
WIP (12/?) - NR - 78k words
Trying not to love and We are family by HarnitBee
Description (Trying not to love): Anthony confronts Kate about their feelings, desperate to not feel anything.
Complete - G - 4k words
Description (We are family): What if the Sheffields weren’t horrible and agreed to the marriage and got Kate's father a post in England?
Complete - G - 10k words
hate to say I told you so by itsthebooks and KyBee1497
Description: A good old fashioned game of Truth or Dare mixed with Seven Minutes in Heaven brings Kate Sharma and Anthony Bridgerton a lot closer to each other than they ever wanted to be.
Complete - E - 9k words
LFTS rec: Weary Memory by @fitrahgolden
I have a difficult time reading divorce fics in general, but I gave this one a shot and I loved it. There’s a bit of angst, but the reasons for the breakup make sense and so does their coming back together. There’s something super sweet about this Kate and Anthony and I’ve revisited it multiple times.
Description: After eleven years of marriage, Kate and Anthony find themselves divorced and co-parenting their three kids.
Complete - M - 20k words
Thanks to those who submitted! This will be a weekly thing, so keep your recs coming! You can find previous weeks under the "lfts fic recs" tag.

I've taken up reading historic newspapers as a hobby and I thought you'd enjoy this story from the Coventry Evening Telegraph. "Heavy Traffic - There was heavy traffic on all roads leading to Silverstone from an early hour this morning, but the filter colour system introduced at the last meeting was again successful and there were few long delays. In order to regulate the traffic, police had installed in the control tower of the former RAF aerodrome seven radio stations linked with key points over a 25-mile radius." This is from the 20th of August, 1949! As I write to you today, there are roadworks on the road between Brackley and Silverstone, which just makes me feel that news is 100% cyclical and there will ALWAYS be traffic around Silverstone. <3
I actually have a theory about this which gets into the sort of nerdy shit I'd make a video about if I was a man with a decent camera and an office. but so Silverstone is in several English counties:
looking at Silverstone on a map, it's clearly in what you'd call a black hole for ley lines. for anyone who didn't grow up in the UK in the era before the internet gave us something to do with our time, ley lines are alleged mystical power lines that criss-cross the UK and do sort of coincide with some motorways probably because that's kinda how the landscape is.
anyway, the idea is you can draw lines between significant monuments or like, random hills people have decided might have some connection to woo and then that will represent ancient energies. for no doubt very serious reasons the epicentre of all these is a tiny village called Parsley Hay halfway between Sheffield and Stoke on Trent, which I am sure does fairly well out of the related tourist industry.
more significant, in terms of British road mapping, is the existence of Little Chef roadside uhhhh cafés? diners? idk what you classify them as. like the druids of old they are now gone but their energies remain.
Silverstone sits in an uneven triangulation of former Little Chef spots:
not only does Towcester's especially hallowed, double Little Chef site unbalance things nearly irrepairably, three of these Little Chef are in Northamptonshire (the double and Old Stratford to the east) while only Buckingham is in Buckinghamshire.
these are the sort of forces that should not be messed with. it is clear why there are always traffic jams around Silverstone and it's not just because everyone invented Milton Keynes (not pictured, off to the east) then forgot to connect it to anywhere else properly it's because the roadside balance has been greatly disturbed.
now that Little Chef is no more this cannot be corrected. no amount of M&S Simply Food can ever neutralise the vibes and so it is that Silverstone is doomed to eternal traffic by the arrogance of mankind's hubristic building.

THE PRINCE DIARIES ♚
27 JUNE 2023 || HOMEWARDS LAUNCH TOUR : REACH UP YOUTH, SHEFFIELD
Reach Up Youth in Sheffield was announced by The Prince of Wales as the sixth Homewards location. The organisation is partnering up with Homewards to help boost peer support and prevent homelessness in young people.
The Prince of Wales paid a visit to them woth Homewards advocate Tyrone Mings.
This visit was aimed at highlighting how grassroots sports can connect young people with their communities.
During the visit, he met with Young People including volunteers who shared their stories with William and discussed the work the organisation is doing to support those struggling.
He also played some basketball against Tyrone and then they joined in for a barbecue lunch.
Homewards Sheffield will focus on families experiencing hidden homeless, including those who are living in temporary accommodation such as hostels or shelters.
It will also address the fact that in Sheffield there is a disproportionate number of people of Black and minoritised ethnic backgrounds who are becoming homeless. Thus, the early work will focus efforts on diverse communities in Sheffield and surrounding areas with high levels of deprivation.
Teams in Sheffield including a range of partners will further strengthen their links and the ability to direct people to services that they might need, building on existing work across the city. The programme will aim to reach families before they are at risk losing their home.

So - let's say you wanted to go DEEP into Faith No More's live performances of Jizzlobber? And see all the ways Mike can fuck himself up on stage. Well, here you go - a compiled list of all the AD tour videos with this song (that I could find) and some lite commentary. gifs are from Warfield 1992
Edit: Hanover, Germany, Jun 3 1992 - (starts at 32:20) Mike what are you doing to that poor box?
Edit: Torino, Italy, Jun 26 1992 - (starts at 46:10) Ah! I found it, Mike screaming into the void (but I think the supercut shots are from Chinese Arithmetic)
Amsterdam, Holland, Jun 22 1992 - fairly reserved, Mike plays Puff's cymbals
Roskilde Festival, Denmark, Jun 25 1992 - (starts at 32:29) gas station Mike, fighting invisible people, and we're gettin' ~creepy~
Wasahallen Stadium, Sweden, Jul 3 1993 - (starts at 41:15) more invisible fighters, and a flip!
Edit: Milwaukee, WI, US, Jul 23 1992 - (starts 27:35) shit, how could i forget Modjeska!?! Roddy is definitely dead, Mike's spine is definitely crushed, Mike's slow build headbang is everything
The Warfield, CA, US, Aug 19 1992 - absolutely batshit crazy, and somehow Mike stays beautiful
Shippensburg, PA, US, Oct 16 1992 - (starts at 55:38) somehow Roddy is more nuts during this one, not much camera time on Mike
Saint Louis, MO, US, Sept 18 1992 - (starts at 48:22) "you wanna see me naked? it's ok, i love you too"
Edit: new link - Columbus, OH, US, Sept 23 1992 - song starts at 49:00, but link starts a little early bc that guy getting tackled is fucking hilarious) Mike flips over Roddy, Roddy flips into the crowd, Mike flips straight onto his back, absolute chaos
Philadelphia, PA, US, Oct 17 1992 - (starts at 45:07) the video quality is really strange on this one? otherwise only a normal amount of nuts
Gothenburg, Sweden, Oct 30 1992 - (starts at 52:20) that light is so fucking bright, good thing Mike's grunting increases, Reese's shirt!
Edit: Stockholm, Sweden, Oct 31 1992 - (starts at 50:40) Mike and the mic stand DO NOT get along, Mike jumps into the astral plane
Edit: Munich, Germany, Nov 11 1992 - (starts at 55:37) What's FNM's opinion on giraffes? "I'll fuck it"
Aschaffenburg, Germany, Nov 17 1992 - (starts at 57:25) "what does it SAY??" I am almost certain Mike kills someone when he flips into the audience...he jumps SO HIGH
Edit: Koblenz, Germany, Nov 19 1992 - (starts at 55:25) funky video edits on this one, but...is he humping the monitor?? jfc mike
Brixton Academy, England, Nov 26 1992 - (starts 57:24) that little 180 jump Mike does kinda kill me - otherwise not a lot of Mike time
Sheffield, England, Dec 5 1992 - (starts 57:55) almost didn't add this one - video is either dark, out of focus or wildly astray for most of it
Milan, Italy, Dec 17 1992 - (starts at 53:46) ok - I could write a whole dissertation on this - bc WHAT THE FUCK MIKE
The Warfield, CA, US, Jan 20 1993 - (starts at 54:20) the band chanting "fuck me" at the beginning is still good, not as bonkers as Warfield 1992 but his voice is deeper, darker, and does make me wanna fuck...wait...is he just slamming himself at the monitor??
Hollywood Palladium, CA, US, Jan 22 1993 - (starts 56:10) the camera angle switches partway through and we somehow end up behind them? and then it cuts to the end 😭, but Hawaiian shirt Mike
Wellington, New Zealand, May 13 1993 - (starts 1:05:56) god i love 1993 Mike's voice, but i do not know how his throat does not end up broken
Christchurch, New Zealand, May 16 1993 - (starts at 1:05:57) seeing Mike just frolic into Jim's frame is pretty great, that's a squat right there
Berlin, Germany, Jun 4 1993 - (starts at 54:44) red shirt mike barely keeps himself from landing head first into the drum riser, this one seems...angry?? and flips in 1993!
Lisbon, Portugal, Jun 26 1993 - oof the sound on this one is real bad, but Mike is in fine form - jacking off the water bottle, and he definitely lands face first
Phoenix Festival, England, Jul 17 1993 - Jim's last show, and Mike is appropriately unhinged™
Bonus: someone did a supercut of best bits
#mike patton#faith no more#jizzlobber#they did this song a few times in the kfad tour#and at brixton 2009#but no videos exist of those i think?#anyways you're welcome#now choose your favorite and get back to me#i appreciate every videographer just zooms in on roddy for the end#and that mike always takes the guitar solo to take a big swig of water

FMP: Tivoli. LO1/LO2.
Easter Week 3
As I was getting stuck in my head as to how to approach the design of my project, I showed my mum a collection of images I had gathered on Pinterest and from the V&A/University of Sheffield that I thought could be potential visual directions. We begun narrowing down what we thought worked best, excluding imagery that was heavily painterly, such as the vintage Coney Island material. This is because I have to think realistically about what I can make within my skill level-I'm not a fine artist.
Imagery we leaned towards was more colourful and naive in style, in fact, my mum's favourite was Tivoli's posters! For her, it made her think to illustrations present in her childhood (1970's).
So, what is Tivoli?
Tivoli Gardens amusement park in central Copenhagen offers rides, games, musicals, ballet, and major concerts. The park is best known for its wooden roller coaster, Rutschebanen (The Mountain Coaster), built in 1914. It is one of the world's oldest wooden roller coasters that is still operating today.
I selected Tivoli as a point of study as its success is founded in the preservation of its original buildings and rides. Another example of this is Tivoli's Pantomime Theatre, Tivoli's oldest building. It is listed due to its exotic exterior and the unique baroque stage inside.
See how it all links back to Pollock's!
Reflection, LO4:
When trying to research into what Tivoli actually was, I found finding the answer to this on their website to be difficult-in fact, there wasn't a description at all. On 'The Company' section, it talks of fiscal reports and sustainability, and gives no indication into what the place is. The same criticisms were said in response to Dreamland's 2017 campaign, so it is important that I ensure effective communication in my work. The same obscurity can be said for Tivoli's posters, but their playful illustrative execution is something I'd like to bring into my project.
1960's-70's Posters:
House artist Thomas Winkler still embraces the original designs of Tivoli's old posters. He is also responsible for the overall design of the park.
"I have my hands in everything except the plants, whether it's the color of the benches, decorations or the letters above the lawn," he explains.
[on the 2023 posters]: "It is important to preserve history, but at the same time something new must happen. So a mixture of tradition and innovation," he explains.

Old Naval Hospital, Port Royal, St. Catherine, Jamaica
[Fun Fact]
Built around 1818, the Historic Naval Hospital is an early example of the use of cast iron in construction. It was designed by a team headed by naval architect Edward Holl and constructed using the labour of enslaved Africans. The prefabricated cast iron units were imported from Sheffield, England, and the bricks were made from local clay. The building rests on a raft foundation, that is, all supporting iron columns are linked beneath the surface.
The hospital was built on the foundations of an earlier one erected in 1743 and destroyed by fire in 1812. Outbuildings included kitchens, staff quarters, isolation ward, mortuary, and a storeroom. The services at the new hospital received high praise from those who were treated there. One of the first to be nursed at the hospital was Captain Botelier.

Russell Senior and Ralph Parmar - the Two Tribes production team.
The production is based on the lives of two 18 or 19 year-old lads, one from a small pit village in Yorkshire and one from a small pit village in Nottinghamshire.
The two lads are friends, possibly more, but their relationship is hugely affected by the strike. The production spans a spectrum of qualities, from comedy to tragedy, and remains focused on the social context throughout.
“It also touches on the North/South divide,” says Senior. “Apparently the actual ‘divide’ between the north and south is in north Nottinghamshire and this divide relates to a Roman fortification. The line divides the rebellious Celtic north with the Romans.”

A striking musical
Published on Monday 20 February 2012
The Miners’ Strike in 1984-5, one of most divisive moments of British 20th-century political history, is being brought to the stage for a musical production by a Pulp star and one of Sheffield’s best-known DJs.
Little remains of the coal mines in South Yorkshire that triggered those landmark events of the 1980s when the unions confronted the Thatcher government, only the desolate remnants of former mining villages.
But for the people whose families were affected by the famous strikes, this history is very easily recalled. One such person is Pulp’s Russell Senior who, along with Sheffield-based DJ Ralph Parmar – better known as Ralph Razor – has written a musical production based on the miners’ strike.
The pair started penning the script for the play in April 2010 but the production process was somewhat inhibited by Senior’s massive reunion tour with Pulp. “When we went on tour with Pulp the production was put on hold – I had to learn about 140 songs in a matter of days.”
Senior is the son of a Sheffield steelworker who lost his job in the 1980s, so watching Thatcher turn her attention to the miners felt very close to home.
His memories have been mined for the production’s material. “I was 18 when the strike was happening and I have drawn from that experience in the production.
“It was horrendous – Britain’s Vietnam War. It was awful seeing people you know all around you being made unemployed by the decisions of a Tory government.”
Senior said: “Thatcher was deliberately provocative in the way she orchestrated it all. There was malice in the whole thing, she was building up coal stocks in anticipation of this and she turned the police into a paramilitary force. It was like Pinochet’s Chile. The ratio of men on the picket being hurt to police injuries was 20 to one.”
Senior and Parmar’s production company – Two Tribes – takes its name not only from the schism that divided Britain but also the chart-topping Frankie Goes to Hollywood track, which was about the Cold War, of the same year.
Ralph has spent time researching pop tracks from the period that were played on the radio and throughout South Yorkshire’s clubs – songs that were relevant to the mining community at that time.
The pair have also spent a considerable amount of time massing a wardrobe to rival any retro broadcast of a 1984 Top of the Pops programme, with racks and racks of bat-winged jumpers, jackets with Power Ranger shoulder pads and hideously unflattering skirts. In terms of historical detail, little has been overlooked.
But while Senior’s seniority has given Two Tribes historical clout, the idea to produce a musical about the strike was Parmar’s idea, as he explains. “I emailed Russell and said ‘I’ve got this idea’.” Senior interjects. “I wrote back and said ‘that is a ridiculous idea and I don’t want to be involved.’ But then I thought ‘actually, the idea is so preposterous that I do actually want to be involved.”
And while Two Tribes is a musical, Parmar is keen to make it subtle. “It’s not going to be like My Fair Lady where people break into song randomly, we bring songs into it in a plausible way and when it would naturally happen – like singing in the pit head showers.”
Two Tribes will be debuted this year and Senior and Parmar have plans to take it across the country. Its premier, however, will be here in Sheffield, on its historical home turf.
The pair are already holding auditions for parts and are looking for actors and actresses to star in the show.
For details, visit www.tt84.co.uk A snippet of the production will be performed at Tramlines this year.

Centre for Poetry and Poetics Presents: A reading from ‘The Last Unravellings of the Logoclast – Alan Halsey’
During this event there will be short readings from Alan Halsey’s posthumous collection by Geraldine Monk & friends.
Venue: Mappin Building, Mappin Hall, The University of Sheffield
***
“Alan Halsey, much missed, always remembered, cherished here so extraordinarily beautifully by Geraldine Monk with this exquisite little collection with Free Poetry, lives on in the scribbles and the artful verses, moving, stimulating, so effortlessly on the button, every page a spirited wonder.” — Adam Piette for Blackbox Manifold
Alan Halsey, 1949-2022 ran the Poetry Bookshop in Hay-on-Wye, U.K. for twenty years and continued to work as a specialist bookseller and editor of West House Books when he moved to Sheffield in 1997. Alan was a poet, artist, publisher, editor, bibliophile, logoclast, scholar and humourist. What was thought to be his final publication Remarks of Uncertain Consequence was published by Five Seasons Press shortly before his death. We now know that it was not his grand finale. Some of his most notable publication amongst his prodigious output include Wittgenstein’s Devil (Stride 2000), Marginalien (Five Seasons 2005), Not Everything Remotely (Salt 2006) and Selected Poems 1988-2016 (Shearsman 2017). Five Seasons also published The Text of Shelley’s Death (1995) and Lives of the Poets with Martin Corless-Smith (2009). He edited the three volume Collected Poems of Bill Griffiths’ (Reality Street) and edited and introduced Thomas Lovell Beddoes Death’s Jest-Book (West House Books 2003). As a graphic artist he collaborated with Kelvin Corcoran, Steve McCaffery and Gavin Selerie; his solo text-graphic works include Memory Screen, shown at the Bury Text Festival in 2005, and In White Writing (Xexoxial 2012). With Martin Archer he co-directed and composed pieces for the Sheffield based antichoir Juxtavoices whose third album Warning: May Contain Notes was released on Discus Records in 2016. He was an Affiliated Poet at Sheffield University’s Centre for Poetry and Poetics.
Geraldine Monk’s poetry was first published in the 1970’s. Her major collections include Escafeld Hangings, West House Books (2005) and Interregnum, Creation Books(1995), Selected Poems Salt Publishing (2003) Ghost & Other Sonnets (2008). In 2012 she devised and edited Cusp: Recollections of Poetry in Transition, which she described as a ‘collective autobiography’, Shearsman Books. Her most recent collection They Who Saw the Deep was published in 2016 in the United States by Parlor Press/Free Verse Editions.
She lives in Sheffield, England where she ran West House Books and its imprint Gargoyle Editions with her late husband Alan Halsey. She is a founding member of the Sheffield based antichoir Juxtavoices for which she has composed several pieces including We TalkThrough Walls, Midsummer Mummeries and Up & Down at Bishop’s House (with Alan Halsey and fellow collaborator Martin Archer). She is an affiliated poet to The Centre for Poetry and Poetics, University of Sheffield.
Please note, this event is an in-person one so we would love you to be there but if you can't travel you can log in by no later than 6.20pm on the link: meet.google.com/nju-skpq-avt

How Our Underfloor Heating Sheffield Experts are The Best
We are experts in underfloor heating and provide competent setup, upkeep, and repairs for pre-existing systems. There are two primary types of underfloor heating systems - a renewable heating system like solar panels or a ground source heat pump, or a hydronic system, often known as a wet system that circulates hot water from the boiler. An electric system that generates heat using the primary electrical supply is the second kind of underfloor heating system.
Hydronic systems move a closed-loop heat transfer fluid between the boiler and the floor using a water and antifreeze solution. A thermostat can independently control the circuit in each area by using regulating valves to link the pipe circuit in each room to a manifold. The room thermostat sends a signal to the manifold to interrupt the circuit in that room when the temperature rises above a certain point. The floor is heated to a temperature of between 18 and 29°C by the manifold, which supplies hot water from your boiler to each room circuit at a temperature between 35 and 60°C.
Underfloor heating Sheffield requires a floor that is suitably insulated, assuming that your building has adequate insulation. For permanent solid floor systems, the insulated floor must comply with building requirements. The viability of this type of heating system depends on how well-insulated your floor is; badly insulated flooring enables heat to escape and raises your heating costs.
Underfloor heating is not the best option for homes where the warmth is utilized seldom because it takes an entire day to heat up and cool down
Poorly insulated homes will take longer to achieve the correct temperature since underfloor heating takes so long to warm up. If your floors are well-insulated, you won't need to heat them as frequently, which will facilitate the installation of underfloor heating and possibly reduce energy costs and carbon emissions.
An Underfloor heating Sheffield is necessary for underfloor heating systems, and the insulated floor cannot be used with permanent solid floor systems unless construction rules are met. Moreover, how well-insulated your floor is affects how effective this type of heating is; if not, heat will escape through the floor, leading to excessive heating costs. Furthermore, it takes a while to heat up and cool down roughly a day depending on the size of the area. It is therefore not the best option for homes with sporadic heating needs. Poorly insulated homes will take longer to achieve the correct temperature since underfloor heating takes so long to warm up. Underfloor heating systems will operate more smoothly and may not need to run as often on well-insulated flooring, lowering heating expenses and carbon emissions.

I love the First Class Lounge electrolier! A slight correction to the original post, though - the Cutler’s Hall which houses this beautiful light fitting is actually in Sheffield (although there is also a historic building of the same name in Bristol - both are Grade II* listed and worth a visit).
You can see more here: https://sheffielder.net/2022/03/28/rms-olympic-and-its-sheffield-connections/
And if you want to go see this gorgeous electrolier in person, it’s located at:
Cutler’s Hall
7-15 Church Street,
Sheffield S1 1HG
United Kingdom
Definitely adding it to my list of Olympic-class things to do and see, right next to the White Swan Hotel in Alnwick (which contains most of the rest of Olympic’s First Class Lounge!) and Olympic’s Honor and Glory Crowning Time from the Grand Staircase, now located at the SeaCity Museum in Southampton.
(One final note, the reference to the sycamore and mahogany paneling from the link above is correct and the paneling shown in the final photo is confirmed to be from the Olympic’s Second Class Library - you can see some of it here in the background:)
RMS Olympic’s 49-light electrolier as it appears today at Cutler’s Hall in Bristol (top). The electrolier was once the centerpiece of Olympic’s elegant First Class Lounge (bottom), before being sold at auction when the ship was scrapped. Titanic’s lounge had an electrolier identical to this.

Sheffield United seal their fourth straight win after beating West Bromwich Albion 2-0
Sheffield United welcomed Steve Bruce’s West Bromwich Albion to Bramall Lane for a late kick-off in the Championship yesterday.
Sheffield United have won three of their last five games, West Brom on the other hand have dropped a total of 11 points in their five last games.
Manager Paul Heckingbottom made four changes to his team, starting Baldock, McGoldrick, Robinson and Hourihane and dropping Fleck, Berge and Norrington-Davies to the bench. Davies missed out.
In his first match as manager, Steve Bruce also made five changes to his side after their 0-2 defeat against Preston.
Prior to kick-off, former Sheffield United Mark Duffy, known as the “Bounce Slayer”, was brought out on the pitch in front of 26,541 supporters and received a great reception from the home fans, whilst a clip of his goal in the derby at Hillsborough was shown on the big screen.
It was West Brom who made the stronger start but against the run of play Sheffield United captain and number 10, Billy Sharp, took the lead 22 minutes in, after a lovely bit of build-up play involving McGoldrick and Baldock.
United and Sharp thought they had doubled their lead, after a brilliant pass from central midfielder Conor Hourihane, but the celebration was cut short by an offside decision.
The nightmare continued for West Brom when their central midfielder Jake Livermore was shown a straight red after a scissor tackle on Hourihane five minutes before half-time.
West Brom’s goalkeeper, Johnstone, made two great saves in the first minutes of the second half, keeping West Brom in the game and denying the Blades a second goal to kill the game.
David McGoldrick went down injured in the 67th minute and had to come off shortly after, replaced by Oliver MacBurnie.
Manager Heckingbottom said in the post-match press conference that the striker had: “Done something to his thigh” and that they don’t know the extent of the injury but that it: “looks serious given how he pulled up”.
Billy Sharp doubled United´s lead in the 81st minute with a curled effort into Johnstone´s corner.
After the second goal West Brom created few chances and United were awarded their fourth straight win which puts them right in the play-off mix in 10th place moving above West Brom, with games in hand.
Sheffield United: Foderingham, Baldock, Basham, Sharp (Berge 90”), Egan, Norwood, McGoldrick (McBurnie 68”), Robinson, Bogle, Hourihane, Ndiaye (Gibbs-White 68”)
Unused: Davies, Fleck, Goode, Norrington-Davies
West Brom: Johnstone, Furlong (O´Shean 86”), Townsend, Ajayi, Livermore, Diangana (Mulumby 45”), Carroll, Clarke, Grant, Reach, Mowatt (Robinson 78”)
Unused: Button, Kipre, Tulloch, Gardner-Hickman
