The baby moves the entire night so she cant sleep and she’s really uncomfortable she can’t find a position to sleep and the next day at work she’s sleepy and tired and with pelvic pain and Link tells her to go to sleep but she doesn’t accept she’s tired
SWEETIE Pt.1
Hey Everybody! I’m baaaack. Here is PART 1 to this. Please be nice and reblog and review me pleeaassee I need to boost my writers ego, (boost it from nothing right now).
I hope you enjoy this. Also a Reminder that somewhere in my writing universe Amelia was having twins (I think it should have happened in the show, THERE’S NO TWINS IN GREYS) so its twins here.
Send me more ideas for part 2, 3...80 Link to Masterpost (Binge at your own risk)
Amelia hummed softly, defiantly screwing her eyes shut. She willed the babies to still, to quit dancing, quit testing the boundaries of her womb. She took in a deep breath and released it through pouted lips, cheeks puffed.
She was coming to the end of her effort at testing the theory that if she was calm, and meditative, the babies would be too. She’d gradually decided it was the opposite for her offspring; drifting in and out of a light sleep, it had taken the last five hours for her to prove that.
Without even resting her hands against her bump she could feel it contorting and morphing in shape with the movement of the twins. Amelia finally gave up, opening her eyes, staring off into the darkness in front of her. In the silence of the night she could hear the flutter of a lone moth’ wings against her window, and the rushing of the night air outside, cars hummed in the distance.
She could hear Link next to her too, breathing softly, a quiet snore appearing and disappearing from his breath. When she focused on his presence behind her, an aching, swelling feeling of comfort and love swelled in her chest and she smiled in the dark.
Normally when the babies were so active Link would help her. He’d rub her stomach and hips and sing for them, it would calm her in a way that she wasn’t able to do for herself, it seemed, no matter how much she tried. Tonight though, she thought he needed sleep more than she did.
He’d come straight home following a nine and a half hour surgery, that ran his shift late by hours. So she was letting him sleep. She thought she should be able to settle herself, and them, on her own anyway.
A cool breeze rolled in through the window and she closed her eyes again, stretching her legs out and rolling on to her back. She suppressed a groan and immediately rolled back onto her side, dropping her legs off the bed and pushing herself to sitting. She sat still for a moment, resting her hands against her sides, applying firm pressure and rubbing from her hips to her ribs. He realised she was clenching her jaw and relaxed it, tipping her face up to the ceiling.
She stared into the fuzzy darkness of the room  and resigned herself to no sleep, and exhaustion tomorrow and rolled her eyes. She took in a deep breath, appreciating the smell of the fresh night air that had become near synonymous with the air in her room. A car alarm rang in the far distance, to her it was the volume of a whisper.
Amelia stood slowly, curling her toes into the carpet beneath her. She pressed a hand into the ache in the small of her back and stepped up to the window, opening it wider.  A light wind draped against her like a cool shawl and rearranged the hair that framed her face. She hummed mellifluously in an out breath and tipped her face to the sky.
Link stirred from sleep behind her and she heard the bed creak as he searched her out. “Amelia?” his voice was gravelly. Amelia remained still, though the twins were yet to wind down. “Yeah” Amelia said, pausing a moment and then turning her head to him. She could just make him out, leaning on his elbow, eyes glinting mutely with the light of the street.
“What’s wrong? Is something wrong?” he said, sitting up, sleep ebbing away from him too.
Amelia turned now, one hand holding on to the window sill, the other rest in the angle between her hip and the swell of her stomach. “They haven’t let me sleep” She admitted, setting herself back on the bed, melting with each hand that Link lay on her. “At all?”
“Some, but not much” she said, sighing, feeling suddenly exhausted but still as if she had two hamsters running in wheels inside her. She instantly felt guilty for comparing them to hamsters, but it was short lived as she pressed her face into Link’s chest and took in his smell. She let out an “mmmmnnnn” in pleasure and shivered, feeling her skin prickle as he chuckled. He continued to rub therapeutic spirals against her stomach.
“Feel good?”
Her answer was a sigh and a hum, she felt the movement inside her slow, as if the twins were settling cats, now walking in small circles before they curl up for sleep.
“Why didn’t you wake me Amelia? You’re going to be dragging all day tomorrow” He said. Amelia just hummed again, too absorbed in the blissful sensation he was permitting. The world felt as if it were slowing down finally, she felt herself spacing out. He felt it happening too; felt the babies winding down, and felt all the strain and tension leave Amelia.
She was still, and melded into his side, one warm hand loosely grasping his forearm. Her hot exhalations warmed the crook of his neck and he allowed for calm to envelop him again. He folded himself against her and held her. She felt heavy and soft in his arms and against his hands. He lay a firm kiss against her head, at the part of her hair and closed his eyes.
----------------------------------------------------------------
The sun was still asleep, but the sky showed signs of its waking. Amelia was asleep too. Link was lying on his side, he’d awoken a little while ago, feeling rested. The room was warm, Amelia liked it that way. During the night she’d always throw the duvet away from her, only her feet were tucked under it. Her t-shirt was twisted and wound around her, up against the underside of her breasts. Other than that she wore a pair of underwear, dappled grey.
Link gazed at her. She was so relaxed, so peaceful. One arm was draped across her torso, her index finger twitched against her stomach. He watched as she stirred slightly, turning her head to face Link. She sighed in her sleep, splaying her hand and sliding it to rest against her lower stomach. She settled again, completely oblivious of the Link’s gaze, of his thoughts.
Link smiled tightly, pursing his lips. He felt guilty knowing he’d be waking her in a few minutes. She grimaced slightly and rolled slowly onto her side facing him. Even asleep now, she didn’t seem to be fully comfortable. Link peered down at her stomach, the culprit in all this. He reached out and laid a hand against the exposed skin. There was stillness there now, he smiled.
“Amelia…” Link spoke softly, a creeping whisper. He brought his hand to her face and rest it against her cheek, drawing a line down her nose and across her soft lips. “Amelia”
She whined weakly, pouting. “Its half seven sweetie”
“Mnn sweetie” She contested the word, and Link grinned, moving his hand back to her waist, massaging her tired muscles. “Why are they sleeping now?” she moaned, feeling genuinely tearful.
“They had a long night” Link said, raising his brow, smiling sympathetically. Amelia just whimpered, opening her eyes. “You want a tea? caffeinated?” Link said, tipping his head to the side, meeting her eyes. She frowned and nodded, “Yes please”
“Okay, I’ll go make it, some toast too?”
“Yes please”
“You okay getting up?” he asked, knowing she’d be feeling rough. She hummed yes and rolled onto the back. He offered his hand anyway and helped her sit up, moving closer and stooping down to kiss her on the lips. He held her face between his hands and they locked eyes.
“I’m sorry they stopped you sleeping, but you’re doing amazing,” He said. Amelia smiled weakly and leaned into one of his hands, sighing.
“Thanks” she said.
“Alright, I’ll be back in a bit, or do you want to just come down for it?”
“I’ll come down”
“Okay”, he said, kissing her quickly again before leaving.
Amelia huffed, standing up shakily, feeling her muscle protest and an ache set in in her pelvis.
It took her a little longer than usual to get ready, so much that Link came up to check on her. He poked his head around the corner, finding her slipping on her shoes, holding on to the chest of draws.
“Alright?” he said and she smiled, forcefully, trying to deceive herself of the utter fatigue she was feeling. Link thought to say she looked beautiful, because he always thought she was, but he didn’t, deciding it was the last thing she’d want to hear.
She was wearing a pair of dark jeans and a plaid shirt that hung loosely on her. Her smile faded and she became more vacant as she made her way to the door. “Are you okay? You hurting?”
“Uuumm… I guess” she forced some cheerfulness into her voice as she walked ahead of him down the stairs. But her pace descending was a giveaway at the discomfort she was in.
“I’m okay... I’m okay, I got this” she said, reaching the bottom of the stairs, eyeing him at the top of them, nodding meeting his eyes, wanting to reassure him. Heading for the kitchen she found Maggie sat at the table, who nudged Amelia’s tea towards her as she entered.
Amelia took a sip and hummed her delight, closing her eyes. She quickly opened them, realising how good it felt to shut her eyes, and how much she’d like to go back to bed. She decided too to stay standing, hesitant to let herself rest, worried the stopping and starting would make her pelvic cramping worse. She downed her tea, sighing.
“I heard you had a rough night?” Maggie said, standing up and taking Amelia’s empty mug.
“Yup… it’s fine, I just need to get going…” Amelia said, arching her back and rolling her shoulders back. Link bustled in then, arranging his bag on his shoulder, and dropping his jacket into a chair.
“Take it easy maybe Amelia” Maggie said, nodding, resting her hand on Amelia’s shoulder, Amelia met her eyes. Maggie stood before her, looking equally exhausted having just finished a night shift.
“I will” Amelia said, nodding, unsure at how she was going to balance her day with what she felt she needed, which was twelve hours of sleep. She laughed a little.
Maggie grinned, seeing that resilience in Amelia’s eyes. She leaned down so her face was close to Amelia’s bump, uttering “naughty babies”.  Link chuckled, folding his arms.
Standing sharply, Maggie took in a breath, “Right, have a good day, I’m going to bed” She said, waving as she headed for her room.
--------------------------------------------------------
In the car Amelia sat rigid, with restless legs, and hands that gripped her bouncing knees. She yawned for the third time and rubbed her face, widening her eyes.
“Amelia? Are you sure you’re okay to work?”
“I’m okay Link, I slept some and I feel okay”
“Amelia, promise me you’re not going to push yourself today?”
“Link…” Amelia sighed, dropping her head against the headrest. She didn’t want to promise she wouldn’t do something that she was already doing. She was already pushing herself and had been the moment she’d pushed herself up out of bed.
“Amelia” He tried to reason.
“Link, truth is I’m pushing myself now, I’m exhausted and I’m hurting... But link” she shifted in her seat, sitting up. “I’m 7 months pregnant, I’m tired all the time, and I need to do my job”
“Amelia, I get that but you need too…”
“Link, don’t tell me what I need to do okay, I know, I’m a grown woman” she said, raising her voice. She flushed hot, her temper crackling like a fire inside her. ‘God I’m tired’ she thought, in an internal sigh that dragged her eyes closed. Link had stopped speaking, sensing her patience dwindling.
“I’m sorry” she mumbled, slow blinking and clasping her hands together in her lap.
“It’s okay” Link said, pursing his lips, eyes fixed on the road ahead.
Amelia took a lengthy breath and peered down at herself. Her last pregnancy had been taxing in a completely different way. As they pulled into the hospital parking lot she held her stomach, looking down at the curve, and reminded herself that beneath her hands, were two healthy babies. At the end of all the pain and strain and tiredness, she’d have two babies, living and breathing in her arms.
She hadn’t realised they were parked till Link’s hand came into view, resting and caressing her thigh. She looked up, finding his gaze. He smiled a warm, and grateful smile; o warm, she felt it sooth her.
“I am your servant today, wherever I can be”
“My slave” Amelia chuckled heartily, a lightness gracing her.
“Haha sure, I’m indebted to you for this” he said, resting his hand against her stomach.
“You sure are… you can carry any future babies, all eight of them”
Link’s brows rose at that and he smiled toothily. “Eight? Why not ten, take it to a dozen”
“Well it’s your vagina Link” Amelia said, nonchalantly, opening her door and turning, smirking.
“Wait don’t move…” Link said, opening his door and making his way around to her side.
“I’ll wait for slave” Amelia said, dramatically throwing herself against the back of her chair in despair.
“Okay, come on” he said, offering his hand.
“All joke’s aside Link I do appreciate your help” Amelia said, taking his hand and standing up, turning her face away to hide the discomfort she felt grow the moment she was up. She let Link collect all their things, walking with him, and stretching and arching her back before they headed across to the hospital.

I don’t know if you’re writing again but it would be awesome if you could write a fic about Amelia’s current situation. Maybe something with her morning sickness or a moment with the sisters or with Link 😍❤️
Squishy
Hey! I started this as a fic based on the prompt:
Hi, I really loved your last fics. And it’s so amazing that what you wrote kind of actually happened 😍😍😍😍 I was also wondering if you could write a small fic in the current timeline. Like that Amelia feels some early pregnancy symptoms (like tender breasts, cramping, headaches or nausea) but doesn’t know about the pregnancy yet. Link just thinks that’s it’s period related or something and is there for her, trying to make her feel better. Also the sisters could notice that something is off.
But when I got the second prompt I decided to merge them, I hope thats alright?!
I’d be happy to keep writing this fic along side the episodes. If there’s anything you want to to read, LET ME KNOW!!
Enjoy xxxx
Her head was spinning, stomach flopping and churning. She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. The elevator stopped, doors opening to reveal Link. Amelia smiled, pleased to see him, despite feeling sick.
“Hey, are you off home?” Link said, wrapping and arm around her and pressing a kiss to the side of her head. He squeezed her and she winced. He quickly loosened his hold. “Are you… alright?”
Amelia clenched her teeth, nodding, “I… my…” she gestured towards her chest  “they’re sore, it’s...yah know.”
“Oh damn, I’m sorry… I can come over tonight and look after you, hot water bottle, chocolate, are you feeling really bad?”
The elevator opened on the bottom floor, and they both stepped out. “Yeah.. I don’t know its… I won’t be very good company”
“Amelia, I don’t care. You want to wait for me or shall I just meet you there?”
Amelia half smiled, wrapping her arms around herself. “I’ll wait” Amelia said, stopping by the exit, leaning against the wall. “Alright, I’ll be ten minutes,” he said, and she watched him go.
Her smile faded slowly, as she became aware of the discomfort she was in. Her stomach twisted and cramped, she frowned, swallowing hard.  She sat down in the waiting area, huffing, placing her bag at her feet and leaning against her thighs. She stayed like that for a short while, savouring the comfort that the position provided to her cramping stomach.
 “Amelia?”
She tipped up her gaze from the floor when she heard her name, Maggie eyed her. “Are you alright? Do you need a ride?”
Amelia sat up, shaking her head, looking passed Maggie for Link. “No it’s okay, I’m waiting for Link. I’ll be home soon”
Maggie nodded, pursing her lips. “And are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m... I’m alright, just... “ Amelia looked around, checking she wouldn’t be overheard by anyone, ”Pregnancy stuff.”
Link rushed over then, panting, “Ready to go?” He said, breathless.
“Did you run here?” Maggie chuckled, turning to Link.
“Nah… well sorta” he laughed, holding out a hand for Amelia. She took it and rose slowly, holding his hand tightly. Link pursed his lips, guiding Amelia alongside him, with an arm around her back.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amelia plodded ahead of Link, making her way up the stairs to her room. Link followed at a distance, hanging his coat, and taking off his shoes.
She was topless and splayed on the bed when he entered her room. She unbuttoned her pants and groaned, Link grinned, shamelessly ogling her chest. He sat down beside her, tracing his fingertips across her stomach and up the central contour of her torso.
“My boobs are huge… and sore” Amelia sighed, closing her eyes.
“You’re Beautiful” Link uttered, resting his palm under her breast, against her ribs. Amelia opened her eyes, and found his scanning her face. They locked gaze and smiled. Link inhaled, sharply, smiling wider, “Right, come on…” He got up and moved to her dresser, pulling out a pair of sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt.
Amelia groaned again, gently folding her arms across her chest. “Come on, pants off, you’ll feel better.”
“You do it!” Amelia huffed, lifting her hips.
“Alright…” Link smiled, eyes alight as he helped her take off her pants. “Alright, now up!”
Amelia sat up, yawning, throwing her arms up so Link could pull her t-shirt on.
“I feel like I’ve eaten a massive meal, like it’s thanksgiving. I feel gross.”
“Well you look lovely”
“I look squishy, and bluh” Amelia sighed, pulling up her sweats and flopping back onto the bed, rolling and crawling up to the pillows.
“I like squishy” Link shrugged.
“So you think I do… look squishy” Amelia pouted, peering up at him from the bed.
“Amelia, you are perfectly squishy and non-squishy, you’re perfect”
Amelia cringed, laughing, turning her face into her pillow. “Hot water bottle? Tea? What do you need?” Link asked.
“Mmmnnn I don’t know...” Amelia spoke, muffled and slurred, feeling suddenly sleepy.
“Alright, I’ll take a guess” Link said, leaving Amelia alone.
She shuffled around in the bed, getting under the covers. The warmth pulled her into a sort of meditation, and she fell asleep. The next thing she knew, she felt heat against her stomach, and a hand in her hair. The TV was on, almost mute, screen flickering. Amelia sighed contently, nuzzling into Link’s thigh and then resting her head there. There was a knock at the door, and Link called out “Yeah” in reply. Amelia kept her eyes closed.
It was Maggie, “Hi, you left these…” She said, and Amelia opened her eyes to see what.
“Oh yeah, thank you…” Link said. Maggie walked over from the door, two mugs of tea in her hands. Link went to take both of them, but Amelia lifted her head.
“Hey, here…” Maggie smiled warmly, and handed Amelia one of the mugs, and the other to Link.
“Thank you…” Amelia said, and hummed, leaning against the headboard, hugging the cup between her hands, letting the steam warm her in-breath. Maggie left, closing the door softly behind her.
“We should eat something proper soon?” Link said, circling his arm around her shoulders.  Amelia groaned, taking a sip of tea.
“You’re not hungry?”
“Mmnn, I don’t know, I guess, but I don’t want to vomit…”
“Well what might not make you sick?”
Amelia sighed, dropping her head against Link’s chest and resting her cup in her lap. “Um… maybe soup…”
“Okay, I can do that... what kind?”
“Minestrone, with that disgusting soggy spaghetti”
Link chuckled, “Why do you want it if it’s disgusting? And for your information, I like the soggy spaghetti” He grinned, squeezing her shoulders.
“I don’t know why I want it…. I just do”
“Well its my favourite soup so...” Link smiled smugly, peering down at Amelia’s stomach, reaching out and giving it a little pat, “Good baby… craving daddies favourite foods”.
Amelia snorted, laughing, rolling her eyes. “Well lets see how it goes down first shall we?”
-----------------------------------------------------------
“Link… you don’t have to sit…” Her statement was interrupted by her retching again. Link moved closer and sat down behind her, scraping her hair back with one hand and smoothing the other against her lower back.
“It’s okay, It’s okay…” he reassured her, as she sat up straight, puffing out a long, unsteady breath. Amelia shivered, falling into the circle of Link’s embrace, panting.
“Alright…?” Link spoke softly, and brought a glass of water up to her lips. She took a sip, and hummed, crossing her arms across her stomach, closing her eyes.
“You feel like you might be sick again?” Link asked, brushing the hair from her face. She shook her head.
“My stomach’s sore” Amelia said, her voice husked and hoarse. She shivered again, curling against Link.
“Alright babe, come on, let’s get back to bed” He said, holding her tighter and standing with her, pulling her with him. She stood and brushed her teeth with her eyes closed, one arm still wrapped around her stomach.
“Here…” Link draped a blanket over her shoulders and brought her hot water bottle up against her aching stomach, holding it there for her as she finished brushing her teeth.
“Thank you.”
“S’okay” he whispered, resting his chin on her shoulder. “So much for craving my favourite foods” he smirked, meeting her eyes in the mirror. She smiled back tiredly, cheeks reddened.
“It’s that soggy spaghetti, that’s what the problem is…” she said, turning to him, sticking out her tongue in disgust. Link chuckled, shaking his head and following her back out into the hall.
“Hey… Amelia” Meredith was waiting, she smiled sympathetically and continued, “I heard you puking, here… you should try these, they worked a treat for me when I was pregnant with Ellis” She passed Amelia a box of crackers.
“Apple sugar crackers… did we have these?”
“No, I just ran out and grabbed them, I heard you puking that soup” Meredith half smiled at Link when she spoke of the soup.
“Oh, thank you… that’s… really kind… thanks Mer ”
“I used to eat them in bed at night… I couldn’t sleep on an empty stomach...” Meredith shrugged, smiling, she nodded once and retreated back down the stairs, calling out ‘goodnight.’
Next Day:
“Dr Shepherd are you okay?” Jackson Avery, stood across the patient from her, a look of concern and confusion on his face.
Amelia bit her lip, gripping the gurney with one hand and quickly brushing away a sheen of sweat from her forehead with the other, “Um, yeah… I’m fine, I just...”
“Dr Shepherd I’m not sure you should be here… if you’re sick… it’s just not healthy for you or the patients.”
The patient between them was unconscious, sedated. Owen walked in then, and Amelia closed her eyes, and grit her teeth.
‘Don’t be sick, don’t be sick, don’t be sick’ she thought repeatedly, though nausea continued to roll through her, she shuddered, her stomach churned uncomfortably. She pressed her palm to her abdomen, breathing in sharply and holding her breathe.
“Are you okay? Amelia, you should sit down, you don’t look…”
“She looks like she’s gonna puke or pass out” Jackson interrupted.
“I’m fine, I’m…” Her voice wobbled, and she clenched her fists, backing away from the table. She wasn’t aware that Owen was following her until she heard his voice over the sound of her throwing up. She leaned heavily into the trash can, just outside the room.
“Amelia… you’re sick, you should go home… I can probably take you?”
Amelia just groaned, hovering over the bin, worried her stomach had more to give. She stood slowly and closed her eyes, pressing the back of her hand to her mouth. She started to tip to the side, only realising her unbalance when Owen caught her.
“Woah, woah, Amelia” He spoke loudly, holding on to her, she let him, not trusting her centre of gravity.
“I need…” Amelia began to speak but stopped when she felt palpable dizziness wash over her, traditional dizziness. Her eyes rolled back, knees buckling.
Owen caught her again, and called a nurse over, ordering her to fetch a wheelchair. The whole time his eyes were wide and worried, heart racing.
“Oh my God, Amelia…” Maggie rushed over just as Owen sat Amelia down in a wheelchair. She placed a hand at the back of Amelia’s neck, supporting her lolling head. Amelia’s eyes fell in and out of focus. “Amelia…” Maggie called her, trying to get her to focus, she couldn’t.
Maggie looked up at Owen, who stood behind her, at the handles of the chair. “Um, I’ll take her into a side room. I’m sure she just needs a banana bag, she’s… had poisoning, from food”  Maggie rambled, avoiding Owen’s gaze as she spanned the wheelchair and took the handles, wheeling Amelia away.
Amelia collapsed against her thighs and held her head, groaning. “It’s okay Amelia, I’m taking you up to OB” Maggie said, entering an elevator.
Amelia groaned, uttering “Link.”
“I’ll page him, we’ll just get you to OB first and then I will”
-------------------------------------------------------
“Amelia!” Link raced into the room, finding Amelia lying on a bed. He was out of breath, eyes glistening.
“Hey, I’m okay. It’s alright”
“You’re okay? What happened?” he took in the IV bag, and then back at Amelia, scanning her face. Amelia reached for his hand, and smiled tightly, pulling him towards the bed so he’d sit.
“I was sick, you know I was sick this morning, and well I just couldn’t kick it. I was in the ER, and I was just… still not good, and I puked again…” she paused, gazing upwards as she recalled the events, “In front of everyone… in front of Owen”
“Oh, damn”
“Yeah, and that’s not even the worst of it… I passed out”
“You what? To the ground?”
“No” Amelia interrupted his thought process quickly, “Owen caught me… put me in a wheelchair and then thank god Maggie saw, and took me. She told him it was food poisoning”
Link pursed his lips, smiling a little. “We’re going to have to tell everyone soon Amelia.”
Amelia sighed, nodding, looking down to their hands.
“I’m worried how Owen will take it. He...He wanted a baby, he fought for us to consider having children… and I… I said no… and now...”
Link nodded, pursing his lips, squeezing her hand, “It’ll be difficult, but it will be okay, eventually. I’ll be there for you, however you need me to be…” Amelia inhaled deeply, and held it, nodding, meeting Link’s blue eyes, smiling.
“You’re alright though?” he asked her. She nodded sharply.
“I was dehydrated… But I’ve been warned. I need to ‘gentler with myself,’ those are Carina’s words. I need to stop forcing myself to do things when I feel unwell” She said, turning her cheek into her pillow, twisting her lips.
“Do you feel like you’re going to be able to do that?” Link said, rubbing her thigh, kneading the muscle. Amelia took another deep breath and nodded.
“I’m going to try, It’s not always possible though”
“Well I’ll try and help make it easier to do, where I can?”
Amelia nodded, “Thank you.”
“No thank you required, my dashing good looks and all my romancing should be the only thing that has you fainting, and it should be into my arms!” He beamed, gripping her thighs, squeezing them. Amelia laughed, grinning.
“You’re free to go when that’s finished?” he pointed to the IV bag.
 Amelia smiled, “Sure am”
“Alright, well I’ve got some things to finish up, I’ll come back in…” he eyed the bag, “thirty minutes? And take you home?”
“Are you staying over?” Amelia asked.
“If you’ll have me?” he replied. Amelia relaxed at that, eyes gleaming; she nodded.
“Okay, I’ll be back in a bit, I’ll grab your things from the neuro on my way back” He dropped a kiss against her lips and they locked eyes momentarily, smiling. “Have a nap” He said, and Amelia nodded sharply, pulling up her blanket, watching him stride from the room.  Her smile lingered as she closed her eyes.

Awestruck
Hey Everyone, this is the next part to Squishy!
Its VERY VERY long. A combination of all the prompts and idea’s people have requested and shared with me. (If you sent a prompt, I’ve tried to include it all here).
I hope you enjoy it! Let me know your thoughts and wants, I love to her from you. I’m going to try and get a new chapter out every week before the next episode. If you want to read something, if you’re watching the show and wish they would include something; Let me Know!! XXXX
The air was crisp as they stepped from the car. The tendrils of winter had began to disperse and cool all that it touched. No leaves remained green, all brown and curled, waiting on the wind to make them dance enough to fall. Amelia peered up at the sky as they made their way to the house, eyes reflecting it back.
She didn’t notice she’d stopped walking, until she felt Link come up behind her, felt his arms wind around her, and shield her, steady her. He looked up too, trying to see what she was seeing. The sky was extra deep today, Amelia thought. She felt as if she could look past the clouds and past the blue, passed the faint stars. She felt very small there, under the sky, enclosed in strong warm arms. “Okay?” Link whispered. She only nodded, meaning it. She felt momentarily light, and  completely unburdened by worries. “Come on now, in we go before we freeze” he said, holding her tighter, driving her forward.
“Mmmnn couch…” Amelia said, peeling off her jacket, and heading straight for the couch as soon as they entered Meredith's. Link took off his coat and shoes before following her. He leaned down and took off her shoes, dropping them beside her.
“Amelia? That you?” Meredith called out from the kitchen, poking her head around and then walking to them. “You’re home early?”
Amelia was lounged back on the couch, “Yeah… I was sick in the ER.”
“She passed out” Link butt in, eyebrows raised.
 Meredith gasped, “What?”
“I was getting to that” Amelia said, dropping her head back.
“You passed out? Are you okay?”
“Yeah I’m fine” she said, tucking her hair behind her ear.
“Dehydrated?” Meredith looked to Link and he nodded as Amelia said ‘yes, probably.’
“Right well I’ll get you some juice? Or a smoothie, smoothie’s probably good for you?” Meredith spoke as she headed back to the kitchen. Amelia squinted, twisting her lips, “I don’t really…”
“No arguments!” Meredith yelled from the kitchen. Amelia sighed, smiling up at Link, who grinned down at her.
“You got told” he chuckled sitting down by her head. She rest her head in his lap and closed her eyes. He watched her, threading his fingers through her hair, smiling when she sighed contently. Her features relaxed slightly as she allowed herself to soften against Link’s touch, and her breathing gentled and evened.
Link continued to watch as she drifted off, continuing to play with her hair with one hand, gently rubbing the side of her stomach with the other.
“What do you want in your smoothie, I put banana and…” Meredith came back in then holding the blender’s jug in her hand. She stopped in her tracks when she saw that Amelia was asleep. Her posture sank and she smiled sympathetically.
“Shall I just throw some berries in there and some mango and put it in the refrigerator?”
“I’m sure she’d appreciate that” Link said, nodding, looking back down at her. Meredith smirked, observing the pair.
She frowned slightly, “She’s a little flushed, is she warm?” Meredith asked, moving to them. Link pressed the back of his hand to Amelia’s forehead and Meredith did too. Amelia stirred. “She’s warm....”
“I’m cold” Amelia stated, opening her eyes and peering up at Meredith. “What’s going on?”
“You’re warm, and flushed, I think you have a fever”
 “Ughh, no, I’m fine I’m just…”
“I’m gonna get the thermometer” Meredith ignored Amelia’s protests, a frown now fixed her features.
Amelia pouted, turning onto her back, looking up at Link. He rested his hand against her stomach, and brushed her hair back from her forehead. “Am I flushed? I don’t feel warm…” Sha said, bringing her own hand up to her face, pressing its back against her cheeks, they felt hot.
“You are flushed… do you still feel unwell?”
“Yeah” she whined, raising up her knees. “I feel nauseous, but I don't feel ill ill”
Link hummed, looking up at Meredith as she came back in, holding out the thermometer.
“Here... “ Meredith held it out to Amelia. Amelia took it and placed it in her mouth, sinking back against Link’s lap. He pursed his lips, watching her, rubbing her stomach.
“Do you’all have to watch” She said, thermometer muffling her speech. Meredith rolled her eyes. Link chuckled, looking up at Meredith instead. The device beeped and Amelia took it out, observing it, groaning and flopping her head back at the sight. Link took it; “101, you have a fever.”
“You should go and get checked out?” Meredith said,
“What?” Amelia retorted, frowning, looking up at Link.
“No, maybe we should just call Carina?” Link said, shrugging, reasoning what Amelia went on to say;
“I was just checked over, they took bloods” Amelia said as she sat up, she froze, gripping the back of the sofa. She grimaced and closed her eyes, puffing out a long and steady breath.
“Amelia?” Meredith stepped forward, tilting to the side, trying to discern what was wrong. Amelia sat still, hair curtaining her face.
“I don’t feel so good” she uttered, swallowing hard, bringing a hand up to her forehead as a dull ache settled in.
“You want to lie back down?” Link asked, cupping a hand around her shoulder. Amelia felt her stomach roll uncomfortably, and she nodded.
“I’ll get some Tylenol” Meredith said, backing into the kitchen.
“I felt okay lying down” Amelia said, slowly sinking back onto her back.
“That’s okay, just lie down… what do you need?” Link said, scanning her, concern pulling at his brows.
Meredith passed her a glass of water then, and some Tylenol and Amelia sat up slightly to take them. “When was the last time you ate?” Meredith asked, folding her arms.
Amelia hummed, lying back down. “Um, this morning,” she muttered, resting her hand on top of Link where it rest on her stomach, closing her eyes.
“You should try and eat?” Link said, brushing his thumb back and forth against her small bump. Amelia nodded softly. “Um...some pasta, with some hummus on it”
“Can I put some veg in there?” Meredith asked, trying to think of ways to up the nutritional value of the food.
“Okay, bland though, cauliflower… something like that” Amelia drawled, barely moving her mouth, she rest one hand over her eyes.
“Alright…” Meredith smiled warmly to Link, “You want anything?” she asked him and he shook his head. “I’ll grab something later, thank you though.”
They faintly heard Maggie’s voice then and the musical tones of the children giggling and singing. All the sound grew louder as the front door opened and Maggie came in, Ellis in a pram, Zola and Bailey following. As soon as they moved into the house and saw Amelia lying down they quietened, and Zola and Bailey moved curiously towards her. They stopped at the side of the couch.
“Are you okay auntie Meelia?” Bailey asked sweetly, resting his hands against her shoulder. Amelia smiled, “yeah I’m okay… just having a little sickness”
“You’ve been sick lots” Zola said, nodding, worried. Link smiled tightly, watching the interaction intently, continuing to rub her stomach, hoping Amelia might find some comfort from it.
“Maybe you have a baby in your belly, like mommy did?” Zola said, looking at Link’s hand, up at Link then back to Amelia.
“You having a baby?” Bailey asked sweetly, gritting his teeth into a cautious and incredibly cute smile. Amelia looked at them, in mild shock that they’d figured it out.
She eyed Maggie and then Meredith momentarily, seeing that they were both smiling widely. “You two are so smart!” Amelia said, forcing some enthusiasm into her voice, circling an arm around the pair and pulling them into a haphazard hug. They both squealed and giggled and bounced on their feet. Meredith shushed them, “Stay calm now, Auntie Meelia is not feeling well.”
They mellowed immediately, well at least Zola did. Bailey started jumping up and down around the room and Meredith laughed, sweeping him up and into her arms. “Come on mister, lets get some food in all our bellies” Meredith said, walking him into the kitchen. Maggie just smiled, holding Ellis against her hip. She mouthed “Are you alright?” and left following a small nod from Amelia.
Zola sat down beside Amelia’s legs on the couch and rest her small hand against Amelia’s stomach. “You’re feeling sick?” Zola asked, rubbing Amelia’s stomach the way Link was. Amelia looked down at where the pairs hands were moving and then back to Zola.
“Yeah, well I was normal pregnant sick and now I have a bit of a fever”
“Oh… maybe you’re getting flu?”
“Maybe… we should get you a job in the ER” Amelia said, chuckling. Zola smiled bashfully, and giggled, looking back to Amelia’s stomach. “I’m gonna be a big cousin?” Zola said, looking up to Link, who grinned and nodded, “You are!”
Zola smiled wider and tensed up as she tried to contain her excitement. “I’m so excited, a little baby” she calmed as she thought it through, smiling wistfully back to Amelia’s belly.
“Zola, will you ask Auntie Amelia if she needs anything?” Meredith called from the kitchen, knowing that Zola likes to play helper.
“Do you need any help with things?” Zola asked, as if they hadn’t all just heard Meredith. “I could get some pillows from your bed like I get when I’m sick, and the nice fluffy blanket?” Zola asked, nodding, wide eyed, as if she was prescribing these things.
Amelia smiled and rolled her bottom lip, “I would love that Zola, thank you.” And with that Zola jumped up from the couch and bound down the hall, running up the stairs.
Amelia relaxed a little, allowing herself to fall back into the feeling of being unwell. She looked up at Link and smiled warmly, eyes lidded. “Now that was cute” He said, beaming toothily,
“I know” She said, meeting his gaze, eyes glistening. She fidgeted in her position, turning so that she could nuzzle her face into Link’s stomach, mumbling, “sleepy time.”
Link laughed, feeling warm with love at the feeling of Amelia wrapped around him. He brushed her hair from her face, taking in her profile. “When Zola gets back you’re going to have to replace me with pillows for a while, I need to shower” He said.
She groaned in response, moaning “alright” as she wound her arms around him.
Zola came back then, wearing her pyjama’s. She had a huge heap of pillows and blankets in her arms, she almost couldn’t see over the top.
“Woh Zola!” Link said, laughing, squeezing Amelia’s shoulder and helping her to sit up.
“We having a pyjama day?” Amelia asked, as Zola swapped places with Link, and stood up on the couch, arranging the pillows and then throwing the blanket in the air, spreading it out over the couch and Amelia.
”Yep” Zola said, leaping across the room, turning on the TV and then joining Amelia back on the couch.
“Alright, I’m going to take a shower, I’ll be back in a bit” Link said, locking eyes with Amelia, receiving a silent assurance that she was okay.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
When Link returned Amelia was asleep, legs over Zola’s lap. Zola sat quietly watching the TV, as she ate a bowl of ice-cream. Link leaned in the doorway, running his eyes over Amelia. “She’s eaten, fell asleep straight after, so I think it’s going to stay down” Meredith said, she sat on the adjacent couch.
“I’ll get her to bed” Link said, nodding to himself, making his way towards her.
He thought for a moment about waking her up but didn’t want to risk consciousness bringing, with it, more nausea. He pulled the blanket off of her and Zola lifted her bowl from atop Amelia’s legs.
She stirred slightly as he lifted her, she lolled her head into the crook of his neck and moaned within a soft sigh. Link held her tightly, uttering “goodnight” to Meredith and Zola as he turned into the hallway.
She stirred again as Link reached the top of the stairs, brows furrowing as she attempted to find her bearings. She hummed, slurring “Link” as she opened her eyes.
“Hey, you’re alright” Link assured her, reaching the bedroom.
She hummed again, wrapping an arm around his neck. She sighed as Link lowered her onto her bed.
She curled her arms around herself, muttering “cold,” shrugging her shoulders. Link stood beside her, looking over her,  she still needed to change for bed. He decided to let her settle for a little while first, let her stomach settle, worried that too much movement might trigger more nausea.
This had been the first evening in weeks that she’d been able to keep food down. He pulled the duvet over her and lied down beside her, jogging the bed slightly. She slowly opened her eyes and side eyed him, without moving her head. She smiled tiredly, “thank you for bringing me to bed” she spoke softly.
“That’s alright”
“I need to get out of my clothes”
“You do”
Amelia sighed, and closed her eyes, breathing in deep.
“How are you feeling now?”
“I feel ill... my head hurts” Amelia said, covering her face with her hands, rubbing it vigorously, groaning. She pushed down the duvet, feeling suddenly too hot, before throwing her arm over her face. She felt Link caress her stomach, pushing up her shirt, his splayed hand covering, and comforting her.
A smile pulled at her lips, face still hidden. She peaked out from behind her arm and eyed him; his eyes were wandering around her figure, mouth slightly agape. Amelia smiled wider, “Link?
He almost shuddered at the disruption, and then grinned, meeting her gaze before looking back to her stomach. “I keep trying to wrap my mind around it… that there’s a tiny human, half you and half me… in there” he shook his head, smiling toothily as he pointed at her stomach. “And they’re growing, like… actually visibly growing” he shook his head again, in disbelief. “It’s amazing…. I… it’s just really…” He shook his head then, looking back to Amelia’s face, his smile becoming bashful.
Amelia relaxed, tension leaving her body as she allowed for his awe, and love, to warm her. She pulled a pillow more firmly under her head and looked down at herself, where his hand curled around her stomach.
She tilted her head into his shoulder, wrapping her far arm over her torso, resting it against Link chest, gently clawing at the fabric of his shirt.
He was lying on his side, facing her, tight against her. He looked back to her eyes, and pursed his lips, smiling softly. He leaned in and pressed a firm kiss to her forehead. She hummed, closing her eyes.
“Right you. Come on..let’s get ready for bed” He said, lips moving, ghosting against her skin, tickling her. She smiled, and nodded, sighing, “Alright.”
She reached down, unbuttoning and unzipping her pants, pausing, gathering her energy before lifting her hips and pushing them down. Link sat up and pulled them over her ankles and off her feet. She sat up too, hair askew, mouth pouting, as she pulled her shirt off.  “I need to pee” she said, sighing, eyes closed, her head was thumping, protesting her sitting up.
“Here…” He held open the neck of one of her vest’s, and she ducked her head through it, threading her arms through. She lowered it herself, over her stomach, peering down at it. Her stomach grew rounder by the day, and was especially bigger in the evenings. It shocked her every time she allowed herself to really look at it, to really think about it.
“And some pants…” Link knelt in front of her, holding the waistband of her sweats open. This had been their routine for the past four or so days. Evenings seemed to be the worst time for Amelia’s nausea and they’d found the less she moved, the less she puked.
He reached for her hands once her pants were almost up and she stood slowly, palms against Link’s back for support as he bent over to pull them all the way up.
“Right, you good?” Link asked, standing up now, in front of her, hands against her sides.
“Yup, I think so” she said, swallowing and clenching her teeth, closing her eyes as pain spiked and radiated down her neck and across her forehead. She mused at how it felt like a migraine. She gripped and squeezed Links forearms, taking in a steady, deep breath, before letting go and making for the door.
Walking slowly down the hall, she rubbed her stomach in an effort to soothe the dull ache there. “Hey” Maggie exited the bathroom, she put her hands on her hips, looking down at Amelia’s stomach; “Bumps coming along” she said, moving aside from the bathroom door.
Amelia chuckled, still holding her stomach, turning back to Maggie from inside the bathroom, leaning against the frame as she spoke; “I know.”
“I’m off to bed, you need anything before I go?” she said, observing Amelia’s pale complexion.
Amelia smiled, and shook her head, looking down, “Thank you, I’m alright.”
“Alright then, well… Come here” Maggie stepped towards her and pulled her into a hug.
Amelia smiled, brows furrowing. “What’s this about?”
“Nothing, I just… I feel protective of you, I just want to give you a hug”
Amelia pursed her lips, and chuckled “okay” hugging her back. The hug lasted long enough for the pair to relax into it.
“Okay…” she pulled back, and met Amelia’s gaze, “Goodnight” she said, brushing her hands up and down Amelia’s forearms briefly before leaving.
----------------------------------------------------
Link slowly roused from sleep, his bearings returning to him slowly. The room was dark, he frowned, reaching out for Amelia. He found she was sitting up, and his stomach dropped when her heard her gasp.
He shot up. “Amelia…” the clock read 3.50. He searched for her hands and found them wrapped around her stomach. “Amelia, talk to me”
“My stomach hurts, it…” she huffed and curled forward wincing. Link shifted down the bed and pressed the back of his hand to her cheeks and to her forehead. She was burning up, he felt his throat constrict and he cleared it. “Amelia… we need to get to the hospital okay? Find out what’s going on.”
Amelia wept, grimacing, heavy pain settling in her lower back, sharp spikes radiating around her stomach and hips. “It hurts Link…”
“Come on, it’s okay… you’re okay” He stood up, speeding around to her side. “Alright babe, can you walk? Can you stand?”
Amelia hiccuped, slowly shifting her feet off of the bed, clammy hands reaching for Link. As she stood, she released a pained groan, bending at the waist, resting her head against Link’s chest. “Oh Amelia” Link felt tears burning in his eyes. “Can you walk?”
“Yeah”
“I can lift you”
“No… I can walk” she said, taking Link’s hand, holding it tightly, her other held her stomach. They made it halfway along the hallway before she stopped, stooping over her stomach, crying out. Link just stood helplessly, beside her, holding her steady. “Breathe, just breathe, you’re alright, you’re okay” he uttered. Amelia wept, shaking her head.
“What if…. What if I’m…”
“No Amelia, don’t go there, just take it as it comes alright… breathe” He rubbed her back firmly. She slowly stood up again, leaning into him.
“Guy’s? Amelia? What’s going on?” Maggie had been awoken, now peering out from her dark room. She caught sight of Amelia and sped towards her. “What’s wrong? Is it the baby?”
“She’s burning up, and has stomach pain”
“And my back” Amelia added, continuing along the hall.
“Maybe it’s Appendicitis?”
“We’re going to the hospital”
“I’ll come with you guys, I’ll drive”
“No Maggie, you go ba…” Amelia stopped again, just by the stairs, gasping, eyes watering. She groaned softly, feeling pain spider-walk out from her hips and spread around her bump. She struggled to catch her breath and gasped.
“I insist” Maggie said, arms folded tightly as she watched Amelia, eyes wide and worried.
“Thank you Maggie” Link said, guiding Amelia back up to standing.
-------------------------------------------------
Link insisted Amelia sit in a wheelchair from the car, and Amelia put up no protest, sitting down and pulling her jacket tighter around herself. She may have had a fever, but she didn’t feel it. Things were quiet as they arrived into the ER; four in the morning on a Wednesday. Teddy Altman saw them first and her eyes widened at the sight. She sped over, looking over Amelia. “Hey? What’s going on?”
“We called ahead, someone from OB should be waiting?” Maggie said, pacing ahead of them, she scanned the ER. Teddy just nodded, shocked to see Amelia like that, and to find out she was pregnant. Amelia had been successfully hiding her bump with scrubs and baggy clothes. Now, in a vest top and with her jacket not reaching all the way around her, her condition was obvious.
“This way, we’ll get you into a side room” Teddy said, walking them to a room.
“Alright Amelia, let’s get you on the bed” Link said, crouching slightly in front of her. Amelia nodded, breathing through pursed lips as she took his hands. Link lifted his eyes to Teddy, and nodded towards Amelia, asking for help. Teddy jumped forward, moving the wheelchair away as soon as Amelia was off it, placing her hands on Amelia’s waist, steadying her as she moved to the bed.
“Tell me what’s going on?” Teddy said, as Amelia sat down again. Amelia took in a sharp breath and held it.
“I’m  at 12 weeks…” she stopped, closing her eyes, as she held back tears. Link frowned, gritting his teeth, he placed his hand on her shoulder and squeezed, working his hand up the back of her neck, into her hair.
“I’ve been having ordinary sickness. And passed out yesterday, I had my bloods…” She stopped again, closing her eyes momentarily, swallowing back a bout of nausea.
“Bloods were normal… she was just dehydrated. We went home, and Meredith noticed she was flushed. We took her temp and it was…”
“101” Amelia input.
“101, she’s eaten, and not been sick again”
“I woke up around 3ish… with pain in my stomach, my hips, and my back …” She brought a hand to her head and continued “and my head is thumping.”
“Alright, have you taken temperature recently?”
The pair both shook their heads, and Teddy nodded. “You’re still nauseous?” Teddy asked and Amelia nodded.
“Alright, I’ll have the nurse come and take your temperature again, and the rest of your vitals. I think we should get a urine sample too, rule out a water infection” she said, nodding, eyes down to the chart. “I’ve noted everything down, so we’ll just pass the file to the OB when they get here, so you don’t need to go through it all again” Teddy said, smiling warmly, placing the file under her arm. She ran her eyes over Amelia and then around the room. “I’ll grab you some things so you’ll be a little more comfortable in here” She said, as she made her way to the door. Link smiled tiredly, and nodded his thank you.
------------------------------------------------------
Teddy came in with a couple of pillows and a blanket a short while later, just as a nurse was taking some bloods. The OB arrived about thirty minutes later, having been hurried along by Maggie.
“Hi Amelia, I’m so sorry for the wait, but we’ve had time to get results from your tests. I’m got some idea of what’s going on, but I want to get a sonogram to confirm and check we’re not missing anything”
“Well can you tell us what you think it is?” Link asked, throwing his hands up, shaking his head, not liking the idea of spending more time in the dark as to what was wrong with Amelia.
The Ob pursed her lips, glancing at the pair, considering it. “Okay... Well your bloods came back and your WBC was slightly high, suggesting you have an infection. You’re urine sample showed that you have a water infection, which explains that. Now if it wasn’t for the pain you’re in, I’d say ‘UTI’ and I’d send you home with antibiotics. But I suspect that you may have pyelonephritis, which is what I’d like to confirm, as well as checking in on the little one”
Amelia inhaled deeply upon hearing the possible diagnosis, nodding. “This will be your first scan?” The OB asked, looking down at the file again, and back to them. Link answered “Yes” and took Amelia’s hand gently squeezing it.
“Alright, well, we’ll get you up to OB and get a detailed scan done. If I’m correct about the kidney infection we’ll need to keep you in and administer IV antibiotics overnight and throughout the day okay?” Amelia nodded, eyes lidded, exhaustion from pain, and sleeplessness was threatening to drag her to sleep.
The OB smiled sympathetically. “We’ll just take this gurney up, I can see you’re exhausted” She said, indicating the bed Amelia was lying on, lifting up the bedrail on one side. Link did the same on the other. Amelia released a soft sigh of relief, and closed her eyes, feeling herself drifting.
-----------------------------------------------------
“Amelia…” she heard Link’s voice and clung to it, to pull herself from sleep. She opened her eyes and found herself in a dimly lit room. “We need to get you ready for the scan” Link said, nodding.
“Need my pants off?” she slurred, knowing they might want to do an internal scan as part of it. He pursed his lips, watching as Amelia attempted to lift her hips, whilst simultaneously pushing down her pants. She only managed a bit and he stopped her, draping a sheet over her before helping with the rest. She pulled up her shirt and threw her arms above her head, wincing as she recognised the pain she was in.
Her eyes were closed again, she felt Links warm hand against her clammy forehead, soothing her hair back, and she sighed. She felt his lips against her temple and the sensation had her relaxing further, almost falling back to sleep.
The OB came back into the room then, talking calmly, aware that Amelia was in and out of sleep. “Okay Amelia, I’m going to start the scan now…” She said, tapping some keys on the sonogram machine and then squeezing some gel onto Amelia’s stomach. Amelia forced her eyes open, screwing them shut and then opening them again, as she tried to shake her exhaustion.
Link ran his hand up and down her arm, squeezing it intermittently. The OB began the scan, placing the probe against her stomach. Amelia looked to Link and found him to be ghostly white. She moved one hand from above her head, reaching out so he could hold her hand in his lap. She smiled softly, and he sighed, relaxing at he sight of her, realising how deeply he’d fallen into his worries.
“Okay, you’ve definitely got a kidney infection… so that’s that… I’ll check everything else now, and then I’ll get a few more angles of your kidney” The Ob said, not taking her eyes from the screen. Amelia nodded, looking up to the ceiling, resisting the urge to close her eyes.
There was an unbearably long stretch of silence then, keys being tapped, probe moving from one side of Amelia’s stomach to the other and then back. The OB adjusted the screen. The longer the silence, the stronger the sinking feeling Amelia felt within herself. Nausea bubbled at the back of her throat.
“Is…” Link had enough, “If everything okay?”
The OB nodded, “Yes… I’m just…” her eyes remained glued to the screen.
Amelia turned her head, trying to see, but she couldn’t see it. She looked at the OB’s face instead, watching her eyes focus in on the screen, flitting around. The OB finally met Amelia’s gaze and smiled.
“I’m just making sure, that what I’m seeing is correct… and it is…” She turned the screen and then moved the probe. “You are pregnant with twins.”
--------------------------------------------------------------
The sun was coming up, yellow light crawled in slowly and rest stretched across the pillow beside Amelia. She was curled up on her side, blankets strewn around her, wires and tubes channeling threw the folds of the fabric.
Link sat awake at the end of her bed, deep in thought, eyes sweeping over Amelia’s form, settling on her face, on her hands, on her stomach, sweeping and settling, and sweeping and settling. A nurse entered the room and smiled kindly. She carried another container of antibiotics. Link looked up to the one still attached to Amelia and saw that it had finished, wondering how he’d not noticed.
“You should get some sleep, she’s okay” the nurse assured him quietly. Link nodded sharply. “I know, I know she is… I just… I don’t feel like sleeping just now,” he said, looking back to Amelia.
“I can get you a coffee then?” She offered, pursing her lips, shrugging. Link chuckled softly, through his nose, “I’d appreciate that, thank you.”
She smiled, leaving him alone again. Amelia had been asleep peacefully for a good few hours, exhaustion overriding the pain.
The doctor had assured him that the pain would likely subside by the time she awoke, after the antibiotics and anti inflammatory’s had worked their magic.
She was to stay for a few days, and then rest at home. Link had already made a mental list of all the things he needed to do and sort as soon as the day shift began; Inform the chief of her absence and prognosis, and of his leave, he’d decided to take a week off, or more, he’d start with a week.
He was lost in his thoughts when Amelia roused from sleep. She frowned, not opening her eyes. She lay still, mentally scanning her body, her pain had diminished hugely, to her relief. She could feel a cannula in the back of her left hand. And she could feel thick elastic bands around her stomach, holding two fetal monitors against her. She took in a deep, sharp breath, drying to dilute the overwhelming thought of twins. Two babies.
She felt movement at the end of the bed and she opened her eyes slowly, looking down.
“Hi” her voice came out raspy and quieter than she’d expected. Link smiled, moving his hand to her ankle.
“Hey, how are you feeling?” he asked her. She took in his appearance and could tell he’d not slept.
“The pain’s not so bad. And my nausea has gone” she said, failing to suppress a yawn. “Did you sleep?”
“I’m okay, I’m not tired”
“Link you should sleep” she said, rolling her shoulder and arching her back.
“I slept for a good six hours last night, plus your nurse is getting me a coffee” he said, smirking, pointing his index finger up, towards the door.
Amelia shifted onto her back, and slid her hands over her stomach, over the bands and the monitors. “Is this what’s been keeping you awake?” She asked, resting her hands against the underside of her abdomen. She took in a deep breath and met Link gaze.
“Yes. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve just been watching you sleep” he chuckled, shrugging. Amelia frowned and smiled, “just watching you and trying to wrap my head around it. I think it’s going to take a while”
“Yeah I agree” Amelia said, looking down at herself.
“I’m happy though… Amazed actually…” he shifted and half stood, moving up the bed to sit closer to her, taking her hand. “I’m in constant awe” he said, shaking his head, looking down at her stomach, at the monitors, then back to her blue blue eyes. “We’re going to be fine, I truly believe we have this” he grinned toothily, “it’s in the bag”.
Amelia laughed, appreciating his successful attempt at dispersing the heaviness that had started to weigh on her. “But seriously, I’m awestruck.”
Amelia smirked, “Awestruck?”
“I’ll let you know when I find a more fitting word” he said, leaning forward, kissing her once and then again. She wound her arms round him and pulled him closer, coaxing him into bed with her. He was careful to avoid and arrange the wires and tubes as he settled beside her. He opened his arms and received her into them, winding them around her. She closed her eyes, curling into his embrace, taking in his smell, feeling herself drifting into sleep again.
Link held Amelia’s tightly, savouring in the feeling of having her so solidly in his arms, he found himself thinking ‘god I love her’ to himself, squeezing his eyes shut, smiling.
Sleep took them both within minutes.

“Amelia?” Link said her name quietly to himself, placing two X-ray images against a light box. He distractedly looked at them, sideways glancing at Amelia. She was wearing her lab coat over a pair of sweatpants, it was buttoned up tight at the front in an obvious effort to conceal that she was dressed for a nap, on the couch, at home. Instead there she was, shining her penlight in to the eye of a patient, doing a neuro exam.
Link pulled his focus from her for a moment, quickly finishing up his consult. He sped straight over and stood a short distance away, hands on his hips, waiting. Amelia didn’t notice him there, even backing up almost into him, stopping just short, placing her hands against her back as she informed the patient of her prognosis. The Intern that Amelia had with her nodded along with what she was saying, swapping between looking at Amelia and looking up at Link.
Amelia started to get irritated, it seemed to her that the intern was just not actively listening.
“Excuse me, eyes on me… What’s so…” Amelia turned to see what was pulling their focus. She almost jumped out of her skin when she saw Link standing right behind her, and she put her hand to her chest. “Link, what the…”
“I should be asking you the questions Dr Shepherd” He said, brows raised, pursing his lips. Amelia half smiled, feeling like a child who’d just been caught doing something wrong. She turned and handed the file to the Intern and let Link guide her away.
“Amelia… what are you doing? You are meant to be resting, in your room, and waiting for me to”
“I know, but I’m feeling better, and I was just taking a walk”
“Down to the ER? Actually up to neuro to get your coat and then to the ER?” He said, flicking the collar of her lab coat. Amelia pressed her lips together and dropped her head. “You’re right, I’m sorry”
Link walked Amelia into the hallway where it was quieter and cupped her shoulders with his hands. “Amelia, it’s okay I don’t want you to say sorry, I’m just worried, I just didn’t expect to see you here”
Amelia looked up at him, his expression was sincere and loving. “I know, you’re right, and I am sorry, I feel kind of out of control of things, and that’s just… what this is…” she said, pointing back to the ER, “but I know you do to… feel out of control... and me… just going against my health and… my doctors orders…. That’s not fair on you.”
“I just want to keep you safe” Link said, shaking his hand, moving his hands down her waist, pressing against the sides of her small bump. Amelia smiled tightly, tears welling in her eyes. She nodded, “I know… I’m sorry”
“Amelia” He shook his head, pulling her into a hug. “It’s okay, you didn’t really do anything dangerous, I just was surprised”
“I know, but you’re right… I need to take better care of myself, I can’t just hurricane about and expect you to do all the work”
“Amelia… It’s okay”
“I know… I mean, in future I’ll be better and more cautious, I don’t want you to worry”
“I’m gonna worry no matter what”
“I know… I just, I…” she sighed, “Link.”
“Okay, I know what you’re saying… but I will always worry” He said, pulling her back against his chest, holding her tight. He felt her nod, tightening her arms around him. “Come on, lets get you home.” He said, opening the embrace, leaving an arm around her shoulders. They walked to the elevator, it was open when the reached and they stepped in.
“I need a new lab coat when I get back, this one is too tight” She said, unbuttoning it, releasing a breath that made her bump grow obvious.
Just as the door began to close, Owen shifted his body through, staggering to stop just in front of Amelia. His eyes flicked up at Link and then back to Amelia. He stepped to Amelia’s side, smiling awkwardly. “Hi” he said, running his eyes over Amelia. He saw she was wearing sweats, and slippers. His gaze reached her stomach, her small bump and froze there.
“Hey” Amelia replied, raising her eyes to the floor indicator, she clenched her fists in her pockets.
“Are you pregnant?” Owen found the words escaping his throat with complete abandonment of thought. Amelia looked at him sharply, eyes wide. She felt sick. Link’s hand pressed against her back and reminded her to breathe. “Um Yes, I.. I am”
“Oh” Owen nodded, looking up to Link and then back to Amelia, down at her stomach.
“It was a complete surprise” Link said, rubbing his hand up and down Amelia’s back, knowing she’d need the comfort.
“That’s great, Amelia… I… congratulations… It must have been a big shock”
Amelia nodded sharply, eyes fluttering, “um, yes it… it was…”
“Well…” Owen looked up at the floor indicator as the bell rang. “I hope you’re okay…” He said, stepping towards the door. He smiled tightly meeting her eyes. Amelia could see he had more to say, that he was holding back, but she didn’t want to hear it, she didn’t have to. She smiled back, nodding, “Thank you.”
When the door closed again, Amelia gasped, and slumped, dropping her face into her hands. “It’s okay, it’s done now” Link said, gripping her shoulders, kneading them.
“Oh god that was horrible” She said, turning her face to the ceiling, taking in a deep breath and exhaling slowly through pouted lips.
“It’s done now, he knows” Link said, walking them out the elevator onto the OB floor.
“I just want to go home”
“Alright, come on, we’ll get your things, sign your papers and we’re on our way. Okay?”
“Okay” Amelia said, closing her eyes and grimacing as she thought back to the elevator.
“Okay, in you go” Link said, resting his hands on her waist, walking behind her as they entered her room.
“Give me this…” he said, pulling off her lab coat, “I’ll take it up to neuro, and get your discharge papers too… you just, have a seat and get your things ready?”
“Alright, thank you” She said, wandering over to her bed and sitting down, eyeing her bag as she wrapped her arms around her stomach.  Link stood for a moment, watching her, absentmindedly brushing his thumbs over the fabric of her lab coat. “I’ll be back in a bit” Link said, widening his smile. Amelia glanced up, crossing her legs on the bed. Sunlight framed her figure. She nodded, reaching for her bag.
------------------------------------------------------------------
A few hours later Amelia was pottering around the kitchen, blanket wrapped around her like a shawl. Meredith was tapping away at the keys on her laptop, sat at the table. Link was upstairs showering. Ellis sat in her highchair, close by to Amelia, eating grapes and blueberries, singing along with the song playing on the radio.
“Booby” Ellis called out, reaching out to Amelia. Amelia chuckled, turning to her, a couple of blueberries in her hand. “You want some more blueberries?” Amelia sang.
Ellis nodded, saying “Yes pease” clasping her hands together, giggling as Amelia shook the blueberries like dice and then scattered them onto Ellis’s tray.
“There you go beautiful” Amelia said, ruffling Ellis’s ruffled hair.
“What do you say Ellis?” Meredith said, not lifting her eyes from her computer screen.
Ellis shouted, “thanks” swapping the ‘th’ for ‘f’.
“You’re very welcome baby” Amelia said, grinning as she went back to cut the fruit she’d laid out. She was making a fruit salad. It was one of the only things she could eat without worrying she’d puke. She scooped all the cut fruit into a big bowl and moved to the fridge to get some fruit juice.
She arched and stretched her back as she stood at the fridge, pressing her free hand against it as she made her way back through the kitchen. Link emerged then, fresh from his shower. “Hey babe, how are you feeling?” he said, standing behind her.
“I’m okay. I think I need to lie down soon though. I’m nearly done”
“It’s alright, I’ll finish up, this just needs mixing right?” he said, nodding at the bowl of fruit and juice. Amelia smiled thankfully, wiping her hands on a cloth and resting them against her lower back. “Yeah, and then it needs refrigerating”
“Alright, you go lie down, you want a cup of tea?” Link said, before pressing a chaste kiss to her lips.
“Please” Amelia said, smiling, nodding as she moved passed Ellis, bopping her nose, eliciting a musical squeal.
“Meredith? Tea?” Amelia could hear Link ask as she sat down on the couch.
She sighed, pivoting and lying down on her side. She turned on the TV, dropping the remote beside her on the couch, and moved her hand to her stomach, resting it under her shirt, pressing against the taut skin. It all made sense to her now, how quickly she’d started to show. She’d thought it was due to it being her second pregnancy. Amelia turned on to her back,  and pulled up her shirt. The TV illuminated the pale curve of her stomach. She ran her hands over it, spreading out her fingers. “Hey” Link spoke softly, standing in the doorway, a mug of tea in his hands. “Hi, thank you” she said, taking the tea from him, holding it against her chest. She curled her legs up to make room for Link to sit with her, and then resting them over his lap.
“Watcha watching?” he asked, resting his hand on her bump, looking to the TV. Amelia eyed the TV too. “Game show”
“Oooh, I love a good game show”
“They’re all dressed as ghosts and zombies” Amelia said, sipping her tea.
“As part of the game?”
“No for halloween silly” Amelia chuckled. She fidgeted in her seat, arching her back. Link rubbed her bump in a circle, taking it in. “I was just thinking, about how much I’m showing, it makes sense now…”
“Now we know there’s two in there?”
“Exactly”
“Here I was thinking it was all the food I was feeding you”
“Hey” she mocked offense, nudging his thigh with her foot.
He just smiled wider, shaking his head, continuing to rub her stomach, swapping between gentle massage and light drawings with his fingertips. Amelia hummed contently, looking back to the TV. Link noticed her eyes began to open and close as she relaxed into the comfort of the situation. He took the mug from her and sat it down on the table beside him. “You want to go to bed?”
“No, it’s only seven, and I’m comfy” Amelia said, snuggling down into the couch. Link smiled, lolling his head to the side.
Amelia looked back to the TV, hands flopping to her sides as she slowly fell asleep. The Tv’s light danced against her. Link pulled a blanket from the back of the couch, draping it over her. She shrugged, stirring, humming softly. Link watched her, sweeping her hair back from her face.

Breathe
HELLO,  Hello, hello, hi everyone. I am back and writing.
I don’t know where I am or what ship I’m aboard, I just know that I ship Amelia’s happiness so I’ll write her with whoever she is happy with. I will write her with Owen, and I will write her with Link.
This is a combination of two Prompts I received;  ‘Hiii! Can you write a fanfic about Amelia falling down the stairs and having broken ribs and Link taking care of her?‘
and a prompt from holynickelclodlamp sent in a DM:  https://reallydontfeelgood.tumblr.com/post/187832557040/a-is-sick-with-a-terrible-chest-infection-and
I decided to pair them and alter them slightly so I wasn’t writing two very simiilar fics. I hope thats alright :)  It’s taking me a little bit to get back into the swing of writing, so any feedback is appreciated!
An ice cold seemed to pulse through her whole body when it hit. Everything inside her rattled and jarred. Amelia lost all sight of up and down, until she was down. Cool, rain splattered concrete graced her with a muted thud. For a moment, time seemed to suspend, and then, suddenly, there was a rush, in the air around her and the air into her lungs.
Legs clad in blue walled around her, knees bent and she could see faces looming, some familiar.
“Amelia… Amelia…. Look at me” Meredith was angling her face so it was aligned with Amelia’s. Hands were against Amelia’s cheeks, keeping her head steady.  “Breathe slowly” Meredith told her said, face half illuminated by the ER lights.
Amelia realised she was gasping, short and shallow. The sky was black above her, rain fell and fled across her face, seeping into her hair. She tried to breathe in deep but felt her throat and chest constrict, something bubbled within one side of her chest and she clawed at her scrub top.
Pain ricocheted and made her hands and feet tingle.
‘What the fuck is happening?’ Amelia thought, squeezing her eyes closed. Her arms were being moved and fingers were pressed against her wrist, her forearm was being squeezed.
She could feel her pulse in her head, tapping against the inners of her eyelids.
Amelia opened her eyes and saw Meredith, crouching beside her, holding her hand. “Okay Amelia, we’re gonna get you on the stretcher” Meredith’s face blurred in and out of focus as she spoke. People crowded around her again then, their arms reaching across and gripping her side.  They counted down from three and pain blurred into darkness.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Co..cold” Amelia spoke into the white noise of rushing oxygen. A warm hand held hers. “Link...” Amelia squeezed it.
“Amelia…” Owen’s face appeared in front of hers. Amelia winced, a hot tear escaping her eye. “My head, the… strap” Amelia said, hands beginning to shake as her consciousness caught up with the pain. Owen’s eyes opened wider with concern and he reached around her head, knuckles pressing into the pillow as he unclasped the mask. He held the mask against her mouth and nose with his hand, standing beside her. He smiled sadly, running his fingers through the hair at the front of her head.
Amelia closed her eyes, with a shaking hand she reached up, pulling the mask away. “No Amelia, you need that” He said quickly, holding the mask near her face.
Amelia shook her head. “What.. where’s Link? What…” her voice was husky and fragile. Owen frowned, looking down. “Link is on his way, he’s just finishing a surgery” He said, swallowing hard and gritting his teeth. Owen and Amelia had been separated for more than a year.
“What happened?” Amelia said, peering up. Owen pursed his lips, pausing for a moment, before pulling the chair over and perching at its edge. He moved the mask back to her face.
“You were hit by an Ambulance…” he said. Amelia frowned, confused. “The driver had an MI while driving,” He continued.
She pulled the mask away again; “What’s wrong with me?”
“You’re going to be okay, you have a pulmonary contusion, some fluid build up, hypoxia and a few broken ribs.” He placed the mask back over her face and Amelia nodded softly.
“My head..” Amelia spoke into the mask.
“Just a bad knock, it’s okay...”
She let go of Owen’s hand then,  replacing his other hand at her mask. He sat back in his chair, gripping his knees. Amelia could feel his presence at her side even as she closed her eyes. The hand she ghosted over her torso was pale, a canula strapped to the back of it. She pushed down the blankets slightly and pressed gently into the flesh of her chest, less than a millimeter, and felt the bruising. She rolled her head to the side and moaned.
“How is Alison, and Teddy?” Amelia said, momentarily lifting the mask, wanting to distract herself from her pain.
Owen cleared his throat, nodding “they’re good, great… Teddy finishes her leave in a few weeks.”
Amelia hummed in response, her eyelids feeling heavy. She peered over to the window, the wind had the rain speeding in diagonal channels, sparkling with fractured light.
“Alison, looks just like Teddy...” Owen said, smiling softly, sadly, clasping his hands together.
The door slammed against the wall then, swinging open to reveal Link. He didn’t even stop to notice Owen.
“Amelia, Amelia honey” He said, rushing to Amelia’s side, cupping her face between his hands, taking her in. Amelia took in a short breath, lips curling. Link bent at the waist, kissing her forehead. Amelia cried with restraint and clawed at his arms wanting him to hold her. He sat down at her hip, and leant forward. “It’s alright, you’re alright…”
“I… um I’ll” Owen cleared his throat as he stood. Link looked up, suddenly aware of Owen in the room.
“I’ll leave you two… feel better soon” Owen said, glancing back down at Amelia, smiling tightly. Amelia nodded. “Thank you…” Link began, “for being with her.”
Owen simply smiled wider, though the smile faltered quickly, and he backed away, turned and left.
Amelia pulled her mask away, “I got hit by…” Link nodded, pushing the mask back.
“It’s okay, Meredith told me,” He said, brushing the pads of his thumbs against her cheeks, wiping away the sheen of tears. “It hurts…” Amelia wept, closing her eyes., “it really…” she huffed, “hurts.”
Link swallowed, slowly nodding. “I know, I know…” He smiled sadly, eyes heavy and blue. He lifted the mask, pressing his lips to hers, and again to the corner of her mouth, and to her cheek. Link held her head, hands either side of her face, and pressed his cheek to hers.
Amelia calmed, holding her breath for a moment, closing her eyes. Their cheeks were tacky with Amelia’s tears, and warm, compressed.
“Okay…” Link whispered, a question and a statement. Amelia hummed, feeling her pain lull slightly. Link pulled back a little, slowly placing the mask over Amelia’s mouth again, “Breathe out slow, bit by bit” he said, holding the mask, “It’s alright, I’ll hold it, just put your arms down…” he said, voice soft and melodic. “Relax” he traced her hairline with his fingertips, across her forehead and down around her ear. “Try and sleep, I’ll be here…” He said, tracing her collar bone. Her eyes drooped shut, her shoulders sinking as her waking tension left her.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amelia didn’t wake again till morning. Link had sat on her bed, holding the mask against her for some time. A nurse came in and helped him to get comfortable in a chair beside her.
He hadn’t slept very much, only ten or so minutes at a time. He’d stir when Amelia did, easing her back into deep sleep each time, with a gentle touch against her cheek, fingertips tracing patterns on her skin.
Early in the morning an unfamiliar doctor entered, with an intern at his side. They both smiled, “Hello, I’m Doctor Hopton, I’ll be assessing Miss Shepherd today, this is my intern Doctor Finley”
“Dr Shepherd…” Link said softly, Amelia continued to sleep. The doctor looked momentarily flustered, quickly looking at his notes, “Yes of course”
“We’ll need to wake her up”
Link nodded, looking down at Amelia. “Amelia… Amelia, wake up” Amelia roused easily and frowned with discomfort.
“Hello Dr shepherd, I’m just going to have a listen to your chest. See if we still need to be using the oxygen.” Amelia nodded, embracing the quiet of the room as the machine was switched off.
She fought her instinct to flinch as the doctor pressed the diaphragm of the stethoscope to her side. “And deep breath in… and out, and in… and out” He said, moving the instrument. Amelia bit her lip hard, squeezing Link’s hand with every painful breath.
“Alright now, if we can get you sitting up?” The doctor said, draping his stethoscope around his neck. Amelia nodded and grit her teeth, holding onto the bed rail with one hand and onto Link with the other. Link helped her, pressing a hand to the back of her neck. She groaned loudly, eyes watering, she felt sick and faint, consumed by the pain of her ribs.
Link felt weak at the sight of the bruising that curled around Amelia’s torso, purple and black and blue as a galaxy. He watched as the stethoscope diaphragm was pressed against it and winced when she did.
“Alright, we’ll keep you sitting up” the doctor said, pressing a button to raise the head of the bed.
“Your breath sounds are almost normal, we’ll just check your...Oxygen levels…. and”  both doctors observed the stats and nodded, “Almost normal, miles better than last night. I want to get a chest Xray this morning, but I suspect you’ll be good to go home late afternoon, now it will take some time for your ribs to heal, you’ve got about three fractures, two complete ones, you’ll need lots of rest.”
Amelia nodded, uttering “okay”, wanting nothing more than for this doctor to leave so she could do just that, rest. He smiled, sensing this, “I’ll get that Xray booked just now, okay” he said, nodding and looking to his intern, before leaving the room.
Amelia, groaned, slumping her head back. “I’m so tired.”
“Understandably so… you’ll be home soon” Link said, holding her hand in his, running his other, up and down her arm. The morning sun started to pour through the window, yellowy light folding around the pair.
“You’ve achieved an impressive bruise by the way, almost artistic” Link said, sitting down on the bed. Amelia crossed her legs and smiled tiredly.
“Yeah?” Amelia said.
“Yeah, I’m impressed, I don’t think you could do ugly if you tried” Link quipped, holding one of her hands in both of his. Amelia rolled her eyes halfheartedly, smiling. “Not funny, I look like crap…” she said, feeling her hair, it was askew and matted with blood and rain.
“Need a hug?” Link said, head lolling towards his shoulder. Amelia breathed painfully and nodded, sucking in her bottom lip. Link shifted into the center of the bed, in front of her crossed legs and helped her to transfer her weight from the head of the bed, onto him, into his arms, against his chest.
He held her gently and carefully, revelling in the feeling of her weight. She wrapped her arms around him loosely and tucked her head beneath his chin, breathing softly so it didn’t hurt. The glow of the morning sun curled into the curve of Amelia’s exposed back and warmed her skin, she sighed softly, a short unlaboured sigh, sinking further in their embrace. “You’ll be okay soon” Link whispered, closing his eyes, finally allowing relief to wash over him.

He saw her the moment he pulled into the clearing where the trailer had been. The windshield wipers were having a hard time keeping up with the torrential rain, so the woodland before him was a watery mosaic. The headlights would have told her of his arrival but she stayed put, staring off into the forest. He stopped the car a little way away from her and climbed out, leaving the headlights on low. He instantly gave up on trying to keep his hood up, the wind wanted it down.
The whole forest was swaying, creating a rushing ocean sound. He walked cautiously towards her, keeping his eyes up, searching through the fog of night, for his wife, the woman he loved more than anyone in the world, the one whom loving sometimes felt so hard.
He called her name when he thought she’d hear and saw her head drop. “Amelia” he said again. He reached her side and stooped slightly, wincing as the rain beat down. She just nodded and looked back up, into the forest.
“I needed to to go somewhere” she said, so soft it was almost drowned by the wind. He leaned closer to hear her. “I needed to go somewhere, so I came here, instead of…. I didn’t want to go to a bar…so I came here…. I needed someone to….” she closed her eyes harshly, as if in pain… anguish.
