Lina had been dreaming of starting a band long before high school. In 2005, she transferred high schools, where she met, Emily, Tae, and Patti. Ben became friends with all of them in May of 2006. In August of 2007, Patty and Lina began to date.

Fangs of Pearl as a band formed in the summer of 2006, and spent most of their early years playing in Emily's newly renovated garage. In the beginning, they didn't exactly record a whole lot of music, as it was too expensive. They mainly played covers of their favourite songs. During senior year, they didn't play together as much due to the stress of exams, and (unbeknownst to the Fangs) Ben's involvement in the Kira investigation. Fast forward to June of 2016, Fangs of Pearl releases their first album, the cover of which was photographed by Emily, and edited/stylized by Ben and Tae. They are now quite popular in Chicago's punk scene.

Their sound is reminiscent of bands like Hole, Meet Me @ The Altar, Paramore, Bikini Kill, and Lunachicks, with elements of gothic rock.

Her mixed heritage includes roots from Argentina and the Dominican Republic and Cuba, contributing to her vibrant cultural background.

Immersed in the vibrant sights and sounds of her Latin American culture, surrounded by myths and legends of sirenas (mermaids) and sea creatures.

Powers and Abilities:

Canary Cry (Siren's Call): Evangeline's primary ability remains her powerful sonic scream, known as the Canary Cry, which functions as her Siren's call. This ability allows her to emit powerful sonic waves capable of disorienting opponents, shattering objects, and creating a mesmerizing effect on those who hear it, potentially influencing their thoughts or actions.

Aquatic Affinity: Evangeline possesses an innate affinity for water, granting her enhanced abilities when submerged or surrounded by aquatic environments. She can hold her breath for extended periods, allowing her to stay submerged for longer durations than a normal human. However, she still requires air to breathe, so prolonged periods underwater can leave her gasping for breath when she resurfaces.

Hydrokinesis: Evangeline can manipulate water to some extent, particularly when submerged or in close proximity to bodies of water. At 15 years old, Evangeline Villanueva experienced a life-altering event that set her on a path of curiosity and self awareness.

Living in the United States at the time, she found herself amidst a heated argument at a friend's house just a week after her birthday. As tempers flared and voices rose, the chaos peaked with an overwhelming surge of emotion from Evangeline.

Unleashing a primal scream, she shattered the silence and a nearby window, sending glass shards flying and leaving everyone in shock, including herself.

Her parents, Diana and German, rushed to the scene, struggling to comprehend the magnitude of their daughter's newfound abilities. They were deeply loving and supportive but chose to handle the situation on their own, without seeking outside help. Her brother on the other hand decided to take a step towards trying to help his young sister however never found a true answer, despite all of the love he had for her.

It just wasn’t in his favor, in none of there favors it seemed.

Their efforts to normalize Evangeline's life worked for a while, but as months passed, their confidence waned, and Evangeline felt increasingly isolated.

Seeking refuge from her turbulent emotions, Evangeline often visited the beach, where the rhythmic waves provided a soothing backdrop. It was in this tranquil setting that she began to explore the extent of her abilities, start testing her control and finding moments of peace.

However, fear and confusion about her powers eventually led her to stop experimenting and focus instead on simply enjoying the calming presence of the ocean.

At 19, overwhelmed by uncertainty and the burden of her powers, Evangeline made the difficult decision to leave home. Adopting the alias Vani Armas, her great grandmother’s surname, she embarked on a journey across the world, seeking a sense of normalcy and belonging.

Despite her parents' wishes, she traveled through various towns and cities, ultimately finding a semblance of peace in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the age of 23.

In Rio, Evangeline found a job at a small shop that sold trinkets and also served as a café and restaurant. She enjoyed the vibrant culture, the beaches, and the music, which reminded her of home.

Here, she rarely used her powers, preferring to keep them hidden.

Occasionally, she would use a small whistle to catch a dog’s attention or subtly manipulate water in a glass, but she avoided drawing attention to herself.

One evening, Evangeline was invited to a house party by a co-worker, Lorena, near the De Costa side of the city. The party was lively until a gang of thieves broke in, seeking to steal valuables and take hostages.

As chaos erupted and Lorena was about to be assaulted, Evangeline’s fear and anxiety culminated in a piercing scream that shattered glasses and forced the thieves to retreat in pain.

Her scream, mixed with fear and a desperate plea for help, temporarily incapacitated the thieves. Some fled, while others attempted to gather what they could. The police arrived soon after, arresting the thieves and questioning Lorena’s younger brother, Hector, who seemed to be the cause of the intrusion.

The incident left Evangeline physically and emotionally drained, her throat sore from the powerful scream. She stayed home for a few days, drinking warm beverages to soothe her voice and avoiding work.

On the third night, a knock on her door brought an unexpected visitor: a tall woman with long grey-white curly hair, rich dark skin, and warm brown eyes, dressed in a fine yet casual outfit.

The woman introduced herself as Ororo, known to many as Storm.

Catalina was always a good kid she was what she was told, listened to her brother. She loved her Siblings, her parents everyone. She had such a kind heart. Unfortunately this was always taken advantage of growing up. In school she was always asked to do other kids homework for the empty promise of friendship, some boys would flirt with her and ask her out thinking she was easy. She was very young when she lost her virginity but she learned her lesson quickly when the boy turned around and made fun of her to their class mates. She just wanted to be liked, to have friends.

she had her family at least, and that was enough to help her get through the day. She loved being home so much she stayed home when it came time to go to college. She did classes online so she could stay close to her family. In that time she met a very lovely man at their church and before she knew it they were going to be married. that was when Lach her older brother left to go across country she never heard from him again. Didn't know where he went or what he was up too. A few years Later she realized was was with child, That was when her husband started hurting her, It was like a switch had been flipped and when he realized he was going to be a father he was trying his hardest not to be. He was incredibility rough with her in the bedroom, and out of the bedroom. She needed to get out for the safety of herself and her child. While digging through some boxes at her parents house she found a post card from her brother Lach. She made a plan, only it took her 10 years to get the plan going.

When her father got sicker she begged her husband to let her and their Son stay with her parents so he go a little bit of time with them before he passed away. She wasn't fully related to any of her siblings. She confronted her mother and she begged her daughter for forgiveness. A few weeks later the family was all brought together once more for their fathers funeral. Everyone was wondering where Lach was, that someone needed to tell him what had happened. Catalina Volunteered, she took her son had her mother book them a flight and made a trip over to find him.

Now she safe from her husband in Huntsville and but that is now the least of her worries.

A/N: Another fic for @jmathesonandsiblings ' Spooky Season In The Barrens (again technically more about @welcometoleedsdiner adjacent stuff, but still...)

“What’s wrong?” Nonno’s question is soft even as he slides into the seat opposite Marisol. It’s past closing, just, the place is empty and Marisol is still picking at the last of her plate of pasta, smaller and skinnier than usual. She looks haunted. “There’s a… a shadow… a shadow figure… keeps following me… and I….” Marisol’s voice breaks and Nonno covers her hand with his own gently. “Let me check it out, go on home with Loli or Lina?” Marisol nods timidly and Nonno smiles, kissing the girl’s cheek softly. “Don’t worry kiddo, Nonno will take care of it.” Marisol looks relieved, he realises, watching her leave with Solina Ramirez and Lolita Sanchez. The two women had always been quietly fond of the timid girl and he knew she would be safe. His work comes next, clearing her home of whatever spiteful fuck is screwing with the girl. He finds them, of course, loitering under a light and chases them down, the man’s yells fall quickly silent and he grunts softly, sinking his boot into the dying man’s side before dragging him away and depositing him where he will never be found. Marisol is back the next day, Lolita’s smile soft even as Solina serves the girl her meal, a smile and wink at Nonno making it clear the girl had been well cared for even as Solina drops the money into Donna’s till, paying for it from her own pocket. Marisol is still softly shy, still nervous but there’s an air of confidence that wasn’t there before, Nonno smiles to himself as he slips into the seat opposite Marisol. “All sorted kiddo, you’ll be okay.” Later, much later, he’d admit to Donna what he had done, surprised by Donna’s sharp smile and whispered ‘Good, little fucker’ even as he accepts yet again how lucky he is to have such a good love and such a happy life.

Books I plan to read in 2022

I was tagged by @mydaylight, thank you, I love this idea :) Here are 10 books that I want to read in 2022.

1) The Queendoms - Scorpica, G. R. Macallister

I’m always here for Fantasy that offers something different. Here we have a matriarcal world, warrior women, powerful women...I’m really excited to read this. 

2) Feminina, a new history of the Middle Ages, Janina Ramirez 

I can’t wait for this one. I’m always interested in books discussing female agency during medieval times and this one seems really interesting : “Janina Ramirez has uncovered countless influential women's names struck out of historical records, with the word FEMINA annotated beside them”.

3) Moment in Peking, Lin Yutang 

I remmener reading the first half of this book as a teen, but I never got to read the rest. Now that an integral version has been released in French, it’s time to discover the whole story. 

4) Les Simples, Yannick Grannec 

This one was recommended to me by @haweke and it looks really intriguing. It tells the story a nuns who practice medicine and whose community is targeted by a bishop. I love stories of female communities, so I hope I will enjoy it.

5) Death of an Eye, Diana Stabenow

I loved her Silk and Song novel and totally recommend it. This one is sets during Cleopatra VII’s rule and deals with a female detective who is friend with the Pharaoh. I love ancient Egypt, Cleopatra VII is one of my favorite historical figures, all the more reasons to read it!

6) Sisters of the Forsaken Stars, Lina Rather

I loved the first novella, I mean it’s a Sci-Fi story about nuns in space, and that enough is an amazing idea. So I will make sure to read this sequel.

7) Spear, Nicola Griffith 

A retelling of the Arthurian legends featuring a young warrior woman? Amazing!

8) Nestuke, Renée Vivien 

Renée Vivien is one of my favorite authors. When I saw that she had written tales inspired by Japanese and Chinese folklore, I had to give them a look!

9) The Gods are Thirsty, Tanith Lee

Still looking to complete my collection of Tanith Lee books and I’m interesting in her take on the French Revolution!

10) Flying Snakes and Griffin Claws: And Other Classical Myths, Historical Oddities, and Scientific Curiosities, Adrienne Mayor 

Adrienne Mayor is releasing a new book this year. This woman is amazing and I need to read it. That’s all.
