So today I felt I needed one of @linmanuel 's Gmorning/Gnight tweets. I looked up on twitter and realized that he stopped doing them. (I turned off twitter notifications for a while because I felt that it swallowed me and my time.)
And you know what? I can totally understand. I mean, when I was a little more conscientous than the mindless scrolling, my first thought was 'I couldn't come up with two of these a day'. And I debated with myself if these just come to him naturally if he has to think about them. I settled for a middle ground: I believe there's a point where you run out of ideas and inspiration, so you have to think about and work on it if you want to keep the habit. And he did it for how long?
All in all: He never owed any of us anything, but he still did them. And which one of us would have thought 'well I should post daily two inspirational, motivational thoughts for my followers' and went through with it for this long? I think what he did here was exceptional and something I for one am totally thankful for and amazed by. And while I'll miss them, I'm gonna smile today. Lin-Manuel Miranda absolutely deserves to do whatever makes him feel best.
tl;dr: A mini rant about LMM's daily tweets, how thankful and amazed I am about them, how nobody has the right to call him out for stopping with them, and a sincere:
Thank you, Lin!
(Also, anybody have an idea of where I could get his Gmorning/Gnight book in Central Europe? Or some online store with reasonable shipping?)
#mildly controversial#i just got annoyed with some comments on twitter#not to offend anybody#just my thoughts#i loved them#even though it was 7 AM when he tweeted gnight#and I got home from school when he tweeted gmorning#gosh it feels weird voicing my opinions#but it means i probs should do that more#sophie rambles#lin manuel miranda

Gmorning. That imaginary fight you keep having in your head is taking up SO much room. Write it out. Your most devastating line of attack. Tell it to a friend or a shrink. Or a canvas. Or chuck it. Get it out. You need your head and your heart for bigger things. Vamos.

Jonny Sun and Lin-Manuel Miranda on Text Friendships, Connection, and the Perfect Metaphor of Eggs
Jonny Sun is a creature of the internet. His poignant musings on life, love, work, and happiness have gained the BoJack Horseman writer a following of more than half a million people on Twitter, and were turned into his bestselling first book, Everyone’s a Aliebn When Ur a Aliebn Too. Twitter also brought Lin-Manuel Miranda into his life: The two became friends via Twitter DMs before making the jump to so-called “real life”—a distinction they would argue might not exist. They went on to collaborate on Gmorning, Gnight!, a book based on Miranda’s habit of tweeting daily affirmations and greetings each day, illustrated by Sun. Nowadays, their friendship is largely sustained via text message and group chat, a mode of communication at once intimate and casual, which becomes more profound over time.
...
SUN: We were talking and having that “first time you meet a friend you know from the internet” moment.
MIRANDA: And it’s compounded by the difficulty of, I’m at the stage door and there’s hundreds of other people there.
SUN: Yeah, you were like, “Let’s go across the street,” and I was amazed that no one followed us across the street.
MIRANDA: That is something that I mourn because that was the level of fame I was very comfortable with: famous for exactly one city block, and then I’m going across the street and we all treat each other normally. I always wait for it to come back to that and it has not.

Gmorning. This feeling will pass. This workload will pass. These people will pass. But look at you, with the gift of memory: You can time travel to the good stuff just by closing your eyes & breathing. Then come right back to now, eyes up for the good stuff ahead. You magic thing.

Gmorning, Gnight: Little Pep Talks For Me & You Book Review
On twitter, Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote these original sayings, aphorisms, and poetry for himself as much as for others. But as his audience grew, these messages took on a life on their own. Now, at the request of countless fans, Miranda has gathered the best of his daily greetings into a beautiful collection illustrated by acclaimed artist Jonny Sun.
Rating: ★★★ 1/2
Gmorning, Gnight is full of cute messages, both poetic and meaningful. These messages are a compilation of tweets by Lin-Manuel Miranda himself, and I really enjoyed reading them. Also in times of anxiety and stress, some of these messages felt really helpful, which was nice.

Book Review: Gmorning, Gnight! Little Pep Talks for Me & You by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jonny Sun
Genre: Inspirational
Rating: 5/5
Book Review:
I have to say this right here and now, I seem to have a giant crush on Lin-Manuel Miranda. Which is cool! I seem to have a thing for really creative genius types who are actually awesome people!
And this book is just so sweet and cool.
I remember seeing over the years, occasionally, on twitter, these tweets that Lin would put in the morning and in the night. But to put them together in a book, where someone could just open them and get some nice words when they first wake up or when they’re going to bed is like the sweetest thing in the world. I keep loving him more and more.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
Please check this book out. It’s adorable and sweet and really inspiring.

i will genuinely never understand people who shit on lin-manuel miranda’s twitter positivity. is it a little cheesy sometimes? sure! but a lot of times its fun and cute and even still sometimes it’s profound and moving. but ingenuine and performative? if you’re able to be positive all the time in today’s society and it’s completely genuine then frankly that’s considerably more concerning, and clearly you are not paying attention. and what reason would he have for it being performative? he made one book bc a ton of people begged for it, i guess, but he still tweets gmorning/gnight for free twice a day, five days a week, so it’s obviously not profit-driven. he’s not obligated to tweet nice things for people, and it’s clear that a lot of people enjoy it and are comforted by it, and there’s no good ulterior motive i can think of to spending time coming up with nice things to tweet. if it’s not your thing then that’s fine, but there’s no reason to pretend it’s objectively bad and gross just because your life is either perfect or you have such a hard time coping with how bad it is that you want to bring everyone else down. so what the hell is people’s problem with trying to put just a little bit of fun, a little bit of compassion, a little bit of hope into the world?
#someone please stop me from using twitter for anything except checking lin-manuel’s tweets#and maybe frank angones and david begnaud#bc ik we joke about tumblr being a hellsite but at least i can search lmm’s name and get good content and not a bunch of cynical jackasses
