Another night of 8-11pm sleep. The only time I don't hate this is when I have an active project - but all my crafts are at the idea stage right now, so am very grumpy about it.
Tumblr media
So, instead, I'm gonna play some Cozy Grove - snuggled under the knitted mushroom blanket, cup of tea beside me, enjoying being able to plonk myself square in the middle of a double bed - and hope that I'll be able to get sleepy enough to get some more rest before an early morning.
It's just a little winter prep of the house, getting the grocery delivery and doing some meal prep - but that's still a lot for my current energy baseline so I'd like to give myself the best shot at not being exhausted on the floor afterwards.
ETA: just on the Cozy Grove note, I'm aware this is an actual type of fish, but I will never not snort at catching a "chub". I'm sorry, but anyone who can read "Wow, a bully chub!" with a straight face is a better person than I. 🤣

Video game I saw in a dream. It was in this low poly style like an older video game. You play as this character I think was meant to be a lamb, or maybe a weird mix of a lamb a mouse and a rabbit, (while not really looking like any of those things) and you’re running away from a wolf. Your objective is to last as long as possible before the wolf catches and eats you.
The house you’re running in is endless and bizarrely put together like most building interiors in dreams are (like the infinite toilet dream dimension on Reddit lol) the layout of the house is pretty detailed, you can stop and hide in places like closets or bins while the wolf looks for you, you can go up and down stairs and into rooms etc.
You never actually know where the wolf is or how close it is to you until it appears in your line of sight, it makes no noise and the game gives you no way of knowing where it is, and it’s pretty unpredictable it doesnt move at a consistent pace. When the wolf catches you there’s an animation showing it eating your character

My game is out now!
re:curse is a surreal RPGmaker horror game inspired by the likes of OFF, Ib, LISA: The Painful RPG and Yume Nikki.
Play as distraction-prone researcher Linda Langley and explore as your laboratory distorts and degrades around you. Send emails. Grapple with your clown infestation. Face consequences. Maybe even survive!
This is a game about...
doors
screens
bitrot
self-fulfilling loops
computer viruses (not real ones)
trans-temporal communication software
gay subtext
surprises
secrets
re:curse was solo developed as a passion project, mostly between 2020-2021. I've returned to it and added the final touches necessary to make a finished game. Bundled with the game is a trove of bonus content for your perusal, including uncompressed source files, concept art, unreleased original music, 3d files, and more. I hope you enjoy!

I don't think any video game I've ever played that tries to deliberately play up the "liminal spaces" angle has ever achieved even a quarter the liminality captured by sheer accident in the act of backtracking in a certain brand of late 1990s to early 2000s console RPGs.
You know the ones – from that era where the idea of linear, event-driven stories had just caught on, but the practice of putting the world map itself on rails wasn't yet de rigeur, so you could in theory revisit anyplace you'd ever been, including the areas that literally only existed for the purpose of one specific setpiece.
When you returned to such an area, all of the monsters and NPCs would be gone, and there'd be no music or audio ambience because no non-event-related soundtrack for that area had ever been written, which made the game's regular sound effects seem conspicuously louder. Just wandering around in this empty, silent backdrop; maybe you'd run into an NPC the devs forgot to dummy out who still acts like the event is ongoing, repeating now-contextless lines of dialogue and gesturing frantically at thin air. Maybe you'd stumble upon a treasure chest you missed the first time around, and the "item get" jingle would crack like a gunshot. Maybe there'd even be a room where the devs neglected to unset the event flag, and you'd suddenly be assailed by pulse-pounding techno heralding the approach of nothing at all.
Like, forget the Backrooms – give me a game that plays with that.

Holy SHIT!
No way!
No FUCKING way!
New shit has come to light! (To quote The Big Lebowski)
Tumblr media
Somebody found the original source for the backrooms image!
(Screenshot is from the backrooms subreddit, credit to the uploader (I forgot their username))
Tumblr media
And an additional pic from Tw*tter as well.
Holy shit!
At LAST!
I’m gonna include a few web links for good measure.
(THE NEW!)
I knew it would happen eventually but still.
This is incredible.
To me at least (shut up).
Feel free to reblog.
Apparently it’s an indoor racetrack now or something like that. Somewhere in Wisconsin.
Backrooms Kart when? (PLEASE DON’T! THIS IS A JOKE!)
