i never told you

what i really felt with you

how to put the beautiful mess

of love, care, and safety into words

that wouldn't be too much

but i regret it now

with all the things i sent

the way i spoke on the audios

the lyrics of every song on that playlist

and each beat of the lilyjordan edit

i made for your birthday

i'll never think it was enough

it's been eight months now

but i still miss you

a dull ache that twists sometimes

into a sharp loss

that takes my breath away

in those moments i wish

you'd just show up at my door

and want me back

it's stupid i know

i don't even love you anymore

but i could love you again, i really could

and i'd give anything to hear

what you have to say about us

about you

i just miss knowing you

i know when we did talk

i never said the right thing

i'm sorry for it

but i loved you like forever

and all i ever wanted

was to to live in a world

you still existed in

even if it wasn't with me

these past months

were some of the hardest of my life

not knowing if you were still here

and nothing i could do to help like i used to

so i didn't talk about you

didn't write any poems

deleted your audios from my phone

but somehow you'd still be on my mind

when i'd least expect it

so most days i wonder

if i haunt you like you haunt me?

if you think of me

in all the little things

the songs, the pet names

the wishes for hugs

everything you and i forever

all the things that come back

no matter how hard i try to forget

i wonder if you think of them too

and miss me like i miss you

A Light In the Storm

It didn't feel quite real. Jordan stood quietly in the crypt, one hand on the smooth cold surface of the rolling table, staring into Elaine's lifeless face. It had only been a few minutes since she, Bug, Nigel, and Lily had sent Garret and Peter in the helicopter to the hospital but it felt like hours -no days- had passed.

Jordan's hair was still up in its ponytail but strands of it were now coming loose and falling into her eyes. She'd barely known Elaine, only really spoken to her in the context of work. But she couldn't shake the way she'd said what she had to Elaine today. Unable to hold it back any longer, Jordan let out a sob and fell to her knees, gasping.

Soft arms caught her and held on tight. Jordan turned her tear stained face to find Lily kneeling there next to her, tears in her eyes, as she clutched at Jordan.

"Shh," Jordan could hear the tears in Lily's voice. "You're safe, Jordan. I'm here."

Jordan shifted and moved her arms so she was holding Lily as tightly as Lily held her. "I can't believe she's gone."

"I know," Lily said softly, her forehead gently coming to rest against Jordan's own. "It's not your fault, Jordan, it's not your fault she's gone."

Jordan let out a sob in response and let herself fall onto Lily's shoulder. The redhead pulled her even closer.

In the distance, Jordan could hear Nigel and Bug talking quietly and the distance roar of the helicopter returning but none of that seemed to matter right then. She tightened her grip on Lily and felt the other woman press a kiss into the top of her head in response.

For the first time since Peter had fainted a few hours earlier Jordan felt really truly safe.
