FUNNY BUSINESS

“You’re the worst, you know that?” Dani said, her arms crossed over her chest as she leaned against the side of the rig alongside Tyler and Boone. She and Tyler had their sights set on you as you concentrated on the options of the vending machine, oblivious to their attention.
Boone furrowed his brows, having just been focused on the camera in his hands. “Who?”
“You,” Dani answered. “You brought your hot sister all of the way out here to help us, and then tell us she’s off-limits. It’s cruel and unusual punishment, if ‘ya ask me.”
A laugh bubbled up from Tyler’s throat, earning him a glare from Boone. “It’s not my fault none of you assholes can keep it in your pants.”
It was Tyler’s turn to glare, playfully. “I’m a gentleman, Boone. Is it a crime to get to know her, you know, considering she’s a part of the team now?”
With a sigh, Boone shook his head. “Just no funny business.”
Tyler mock saluted. “Scouts honor.”
Tyler was a gentleman; his momma had raised him as such. And despite his teasing, he did want to respect Boone’s words. But at the same time, you were the newest member of the Wranglers, and Tyler did want to get to know you since you’d be hanging around for at least that season.
Boone had suggested to bring you on to help with the charity aspect of their storm-chasing. The t-shirt and other sales they made from their online audience went mostly to help victims of the storms they chased, and the rest went back into making the merchandise to sell. Boone said you’d be a good addition to help out with the business side of things, and he’d been right from what Tyler had seen so far. You were smart and quick, and were able to keep up with the rest of Wranglers as if you’d been a part of the team since the start. Tyler was impressed.
But what really impressed him, was how caring you were. It was the first time you’d come along with them to help out a neighborhood that was hit hard by a tornado. Houses were leveled and the devastation was thick in the air from the moment they arrived.
The Wrangler quickly got to work. Lily and Dexter started making sandwiches. Dani started walking around and passing out water bottles. Boone helped the injured to the ambulances that arrived. Tyler started making rounds, helping families find their missing pets or important objects in the rubble. But as he did so, he couldn’t help but watch you interact with the victims as well.
A couple of kids from the neighborhood sat together in a clear patch of grass while their parents tried to salvage some of their belongings and figure out what to do next. They all looked teary-eyed, and faces pulled in frowns as they sat quietly, clutching stuffed animals or picking at the wet grass to distract themselves. You approached them, sitting down in the little circle they formed.
Tyler couldn’t hear what you were saying to them, but your started to look more and more animated and the kids cracked small smiles. After a couple more moments, the kids’ moods looked to shift into something lighter despite the devastation around them. The somber air slowly became filled with giggles and kids’ voices overlapping excitedly.
Tyler found himself smiling softly at the sight before he ventured over. “How’s it going over here?” he asked, earning your attention.
“David here is telling us a very interesting story about a space alien,” you said, earning an enthusiastic nod from one of the younger boys in the circle. “You guys keep telling stories and I’m gonna go make sure no one else needs help, okay?”
The kids all shared a series of ‘okays’ and ‘thank yous’ before you moved to stand up. Tyler outstretched his hand toward you, and you took it with a smile, letting him help you to your feet. Once you stood directly in front of him, he felt himself clam up slightly. He and Dani had made jokes in hopes of irritating Boone in regards to how attractive you were, but seeing you that close, in the after-storm sunlight, Tyler’s breath hitched in his throat.
“Thanks,” you said, dropping your hand back at your side and gazing around at what else there was to be done in the neighborhood.
He cleared his throat. “That was smart, keepin’ their minds off of…” he vaguely gestured around them, feeling a knot in his gut of pity for the poor families affected.
You smiled sadly. “My parents used to do that with Boone and I. When we’d have to wait in the cellar, we’d all tell stories until the storm passed. The more outrageous the better,” you explained.
“It seemed to work,” Tyler said, glancing at the circle of kids all sharing outrageous stories with laughter and smiles instead of the frowns they held a couple minutes ago.
“Yeah, at least a little bit,” you said. There was a beat where Tyler didn’t know what else to say. Something over his shoulder caught your eye before you looked back to him and said, “I’m gonna go help Boone.” You sidestepped Tyler and left him in a slight daze.
He whispered a string of curses under his breath once he was out of earshot of the kids, and hurried back to the camper where the Wranglers were handing out food.
“I’ve got a problem,” he muttered to his friends.
Lily handed out another sandwich before eyeing him oddly. “A problem-problem or a you-problem?”
“A me-problem.”
“Ah,” she said. “Shoot, cowboy.”
“It’s Boone’s sister,” he whispered, ensuring that only Lily, Dexter, and Dani heard him. “She’s…”
“Attractive? Yeah, I thought we already established that?” Dani said, opening another case of water.
Tyler rubbed his forehead, an odd feeling twisting around inside his stomach. “It’s not just that,” he said. “She’s pretty, sure, but-”
Lily cut him off with slightly wide eyes. “Oh no,” she said.
Dexter furrowed his brows. “Oh no? Oh no, what?”
“Tyler only, and I mean only, calls women ‘pretty’ when he has a crush on them. Some ole’ woman at a bar that’s makin’ eyes at him, he’ll call her ‘attractive’ or ‘easy on the eyes’ never ‘pretty.’ Pretty he saves for the ones he’s got a big fat school-boy crush on. And normally that’s all fine and dandy, but this is Boone’s sister we’re talking about, Tyler.”
He hated how well Lily knew him. She read him like a book.
Dexter whistled lowly. “That’s unfortunate.”
“What’s unfortunate?” Boone said, approaching the group with you beside him. All of the Wranglers, aside from you two, looked at Tyler, which was anything but helpful.
Boone was one of Tyler’s best friends, and he knew it was the right thing to listen to him. Besides, Tyler hadn’t known you long so maybe his ‘school-boy crush,’ as Lily had put it, would fade once he got used to having you around.
Clearing his throat, Tyler shook his head. “Nothin’ important,” he said. “Let’s pass the rest of this food out before we head out for the night.”
You adored your brother’s friends more than you thought you would. You’d watch the Wranglers’ livestreams, but it was different being around them in person. Their passion for storm chasing was admirable and how they helped those affected by the very storms they were in awe of was amazing.
When Boone asked you to help out, you jumped at the opportunity. You certainly didn’t regret your decision, but you greatly underestimated the charm of Tyler Owens. You’d read the comments online, all ogling at the storm chaser, but it wasn’t just his looks that made him incredibly attractive. Tyler’s charm entered everything he did and said, but it was especially enticing when he talked about storms. When he got particularly excited, he spoke with his hands, lips pulled in a grin that was ridiculously mesmerizing. You could have listened to him talk about the weather forever, which was a problem.
It felt foolish on your part; not only was Tyler one of your brother’s best friends, but you thought he was miles out of your league. He had people practically drooling over him in the comments of his videos and making eyes the second he stepped into a building. He was a personality, wild and loud, but with a sweet side to make him even more likable. You told yourself the little crush would pass, but you worried that if Tyler kept being so damn nice to you, it’d be years before that happened.
“So, this is how storm chasers spend their off time?” you said, propping your elbows up on the bar before something sticky touched your skin. You recoiled in a grimace.
A chuckle sounded from Tyler as he handed you a napkin. “Here,” he said. “And yeah, it’s the perfect way to unwind. Though, word of caution, don’t drink too much. Storm chasing hung-over is a different kind of hell.”
You wiped someone’s spilled drink from your elbows and nodded. “Noted.” There was still a lot you had to learn about the ins and outs of storm chasing, but you were excited to learn. A silence passed between you two, the space filled with the bar chatter. The place was busy for it being in the middle of nowhere; the Wranglers said it was because most people were either dedicated locals or fellow storm chasers looking to relax a little.
Your brother and the rest of the team were at the old-timey jukebox, picking out songs that they then danced to, loud and rowdy as ever. But Tyler didn’t join them. Instead, he sat at the bar nursing a beer. Before you arrived, he was talking to an old man on the other side of him, cracking jokes like he’d known the stranger for years.
It was like each minute you were there with them, you uncovered something else about Tyler. And maybe it was a couple of sips of alcohol that were already affecting your system but felt like he should know that.
“You know, you’re a little different than I thought you’d be,” you admitted.
He studied for a moment with a gaze that made you nervous, but not in a bad way. “Oh yeah? How’d you think I was gonna be?”
You shrugged. “I watch the lives, mostly to make sure Boone is okay, but online you seemed…” You weren’t sure of what the right word to use was. You settled on, “More intense, I guess.”
A smirk crept across his lips. “And I am not intense enough for ‘ya?”
Your face felt hot, and the busy bar wasn’t helping. You adverted your eyes down to your drink and tried to laugh off your fluster. “I just mean, I thought you’d be like all of the time. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to keep up and you’d all think I wasn’t a good fit.”
The smirk fell from Tyler’s face and was replaced with a furrow of his brows. “Are you crazy?” he said. “We needed someone like you on our team. I know you just started, but I think you’re the best fit we could’ve picked.”
“Careful,” you teased. “Too many compliments like that might go to my head.” Even though you were pretty sure he was just trying to make you feel better, there was something in his tone that was convincing.
“What are y’all doin’?” Boone’s voice filled your ears and suddenly his arm was slung around both your and Tyler’s shoulders, forcing you two to lean in a little bit closer to one another, but with Boone sandwiched in the middle. Your brother’s breath smelled like beer and there was that goofy smile on his face he always got when he had one too many. “The party’s on the dance floor!”
You glanced over at the ‘dance floor’ which was a little space the Wranglers had carved out in front of the jukebox. A couple others joined them, but it wasn’t anything too wild.
Tyler shook his head and finished his beer. “Your ass is gonna be sorry tomorrow, Boone. I told you we’re leaving bright and early.”
Boone patted Tyler’s cheek. “I’ll be just fine.”
Boone was not ‘just fine’ the next morning. What he was a pain in Tyler’s ass, which resulted in him being demoted to the backseat and you prompted to the passenger seat. Maybe that wasn’t the best move for Tyler because while he was driving, he found himself slightly distracted by you.
You sat with your attention fixed out the window, watching the plains roll by with admiration. Every so often you fiddled with the radio per Lily’s request, but other than that you were quiet, observing.
“Can we take a pit stop?” Boone moaned. Tyler glanced at in the rearview mirror, face paled and eyes squeezed shut.
Tyler sighed. “I swear, if you throw up in my truck, Boone…” Tyler muttered, straining his eyes down the road for any sign of a gas station, but there didn’t look to be anything close.
“There’s not another stop for half an hour tops,” you said, searching on your phone.
“Great, cool, yeah,” Boone said. “Then you may wanna pull over or else everyone’s about to have a real bad time in here.”
Tyler quickly pulled off to the side of the road and Boone scrambled out, across the road to empty his stomach.
“I don’t know how many times I’ve got to tell him,” Tyler sighed.
“He won’t listen,” Lily said, unbuckling and sticking her face between you and Tyler. “I’ll make sure he’s all right. You two keep an eye on the weather.” She hopped out, leaving you and Tyler alone.
He drummed his fingers against the steering wheel, wracking his brain for something to say to you. Normally he had no issue talking to people, but he found himself second-guessing his words when it came to you. But you beat him to the punch.
“He’s never been too good at holding his alcohol,” you said. “I can’t tell you how many times I had to pick him up because he got sick at some friend’s bonfire back in high school. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone get hangovers so badly.”
“All a part of his charm, I guess,” Tyler joked. “Does it run in the family?”
You shook your head. “No, neither charm nor hangovers. Boone’s one of a kind, that’s for sure.”
Tyler steadied himself a little, finding that thread of confidence in the back of his mind. He gazed at you, taking in the pretty features of your face. “I think you’re wrong on the charming bit.”
You looked surprised, eyes a little wider. “Me? Charming?” You scoffed. “No way.”
“Charming, smart, pretty…” Tyler trailed off, waiting for a reaction from you to let him know if he had swung and missed. You looked down, averting your eyes and clearing your throat. Out the windshield, he saw two figures moving in his peripheral vision and before you got the chance to say anything back, Boone and Lily reentered the car.
“That’s my bad, you guys,” Boone said.
You turned your head over your shoulder to look at your brother. “Feel better?”
“Oh, yeah. Ready to chase this son of a bitch!” And you all were off again. Tyler wished Boone and Lily had held out for one more minute. He wanted some kind of response from you, even if it was one telling him he had no chance. It was like an itch he couldn’t scratch, and one he felt bad about having, but he couldn’t help it. You were something new, a little unknown, and unpredictable. If there was one thing Tyler was good at, it was chasing through his apprehension. But instead of a tornado, you had quickly become the storm occupying his mind.
You knocked for the fifth time on Boone’s door and tried calling him again, but one thing about your brother was that he was one of the heaviest sleepers of anyone you’ve ever met. That paired with his hangover from the night prior left him not answering you. You cursed under your breath, ready to set up camp in one of the rickety pool lounge chairs.
There was an unpleasant pair of cockroaches in your motel room and the thought of sleeping with them scurrying about was out of the question. Since none of the other Wranglers had left their rooms, you wondered if you were the only one to notice them or the only one who had them. Whatever the case was, you couldn’t sleep in your room and apparently, you couldn’t sleep in Boone’s either because he was fast asleep. You couldn’t remember where Dani and Lily's rooms were to ask to bunk them.
It seemed like you were out of luck until the door next to Boone’s opened and a groggy Tyler stepped out. “What’s goin’ on?” he yawned, rubbing the tiredness from his eyes.
You hugged your arms closer to your body. “Sorry, did I wake you up?”
“Sorta,” he answered and you felt immediately guilty. “But it’s all right. I just wanted to make sure everything was okay out here. What’re you doin’ up anyway? It’s the middle of the night.”
“There are cockroaches in my room,” you sighed. “I was trying to see if I could crash with Boone, but he sleeps like the dead.”
Tyler chuckled. “That he does.” There was a beat and silent contemplation. You were about to tell him you’d crash in the camper or the truck, but he nodded his head back toward his room. “Come on,” he said.
You stood, confused for a moment. “You can crash with me. I don’t think my room has cockroaches but for both our peace of mind, I wouldn’t look around too hard.”
You weren't sure if you were elated or embarrassed. Overall, you were tired, exhausted even, and any thought of declining fled your mind the second Tyler turned to walk back inside, assuming you were following. So, you did.
Tyler patted the edge of the bed. “It’s all yours,” he said, gathering one of the pillows in his arms.
“What’re you doing?”
He tossed the pillow onto the floor. “Praying for no cockroaches for the next couple of hours.”
“No, wait,” you rushed out. “You can’t sleep on the floor.”
“It’s all good-” he started, but you cut him off.
“No way. I’m not kicking you out of your bed in your room.” You glanced at the bed, feeling your face grow hot at the thought of what you were about to suggest, but you couldn’t let him spend the night on the floor. “We can just…share.”
Tyler stared at you for a moment, like he didn’t know what to say. He shifted his gaze between the pillow on the floor and the bed before landing back on you. “Are you sure? Because I really don’t mind.”
“I’m sure.”
Hesitantly, you sat on the edge of the bed and pulled off your shoes, trying to ignore the shift of weight on the mattress as sat down opposite of you. It wasn’t as big of a deal as your mind was trying to tell you it was. It was just two co-workers, borderline friends, sharing a bed so no one had to face any cockroaches. That was all it was. But even in the darkness of the motel room, you couldn’t help the quick beat of your heart as you crawled under the covers, with your back facing Tyler. He did the same and before you could convince yourself what you were doing was not a big deal at all, Tyler’s soft snores filled the room. It was oddly reassuring. You fell asleep not long after him, a clear space between you but something in the air that wanted to draw you two closer.
For a moment, when he woke up, Tyler thought the exchange he had with you in the middle of the night had been a dream. But when he rolled over to find your sleeping face inches away from his, he realized it was very much real. Your eyes were softly closed and your lips slightly parted as you slept. He found himself admiring you for just a moment, until there was a loud knock on his door, forcing him to get up.
He threw it open without thinking much about it. Boone greeted him with a slightly worried expression pulled on his face. “Hey, man what’s-”
“Have you seen my sister? She called me last night a bunch of times, but I didn’t hear it. And when I went to her room no one answered,” Boone said, quickly cutting Tyler off.
“Boone?” Your voice sounded from behind Tyler and as soon as he saw the several emotions flicker across Boone’s face, he realized he may have made a mistake.
Boone’s gaze flickered between you sleepily sitting up in Tyler’s bed and Tyler. “Dude!” he exclaimed. “What the hell is going on here?”
It must have registered with you too how the situation looked. You hurried out of bed and stood at Tyler’s side. “Wait, hold on-”
“What the hell are you doing?” he said to you. “I said no funny business,” he then said to Tyler.
“It’s not like that,” Tyler rushed out. “I know that it looks like that, but it’s not. I swear.”
“He’s right,” you added. “It’s not. I needed a place to crash because there were bugs in my room, and you wouldn’t answer your phone. Tyler offered to let me stay in his. That’s all.”
Boone didn’t look too convinced. He crossed his arms over his chest, blowing air from his cheeks. “You two have been making googly eyes at each other since you arrived,” Boone said. Both you and Tyler tried to defend yourself, even if Tyler hadn’t been super subtle about his ‘googly’ eyes. But Boone cut you both off with a wave of his hand. “Save it. I know both of you. You,” he pointed to Tyler. “Are the least subtle person I know. And you,” he pointed at you. “Have been talking about him since I started chasing with him.”
Your eyes widened almost comically as you sputtered over your response. “I-I have not!”
“Look,” Boone started, taking a deep breath. “You’re both adults. But if you’re gonna get into any funny business, for the love of the Lord himself, do not do it around me. Got it?”
“Okay,” you answered, catching Tyler off guard. He expected you to brush your brother off and force Tyler to face the reality that you had no interest in him, but you didn’t.
Boone looked to him for his answer. “Y-Yeah.”
“Good,” Boone said. “We’re leavin’ in fifteen.” He turned on his heel and left the two of you in the doorway. Once he was out of earshot, a laugh sounded from your lips, a sweet sound he wasn’t expecting.
“God, that was embarrassing,” you said, still laughing at the situation.
Tyler couldn’t help but laugh too, closing the door and leaving the two of you alone in his motel room once more. “Is that true? You talk about me?”
You hung your head, sheepishly and shrugged. “Maybe.” The idea of you talking about him made him feel on top of the world. “Is what he said about you true? Are you really not that subtle?”
“I did invite you to sleep with me,” he joked, taking a step closer to you. You didn’t move away but instead closed the distance between you two even more. He searched your eyes for a sign that you were thinking the same thing he was, and when your gaze flickered to his lips for only a second, he got his confirmation.
Tyler hooked a finger under your chin, tilting your head upwards just slightly as he leaned in. He kissed you slowly, sweetly as you hung your arms around his shoulders to bring him in even closer, the two of you pressed chest to chest. He felt you smile against his lips, a blissful feeling he didn’t to end.

The Misus said so | T. Owens

Tyler Owens x wife!reader
A/N: so I’m obsessed with Glen Powell and of course I had to do a little something with Tyler Owens because Glen looked so good in that movie. Hope you enjoy!
SUMMARY : After chasing a tornado, Tyler suggests the team take a break in his hometown—a place none of them have ever visited, except Boone. To their surprise, they discover that Tyler shares his home with a pregnant woman he refers to as his wife and a young boy he calls his son.
WARNINGS : fluff, Tyler being head over heels for his wife, cuteness, some inaccuracies regarding tornadoes
3.4k words
The sun was just beginning to set as the red truck and van rumbled down the dusty back roads of the Arkansas countryside. Tyler Owens was behind the wheel, relaxed but focused, his hands steady as he navigated the familiar terrain. In the passenger seat, Boone sat with an easy grin, the kind only a best friend could wear, fully at home in the quiet camaraderie of the ride. He occasionally glanced at Tyler, clearly anticipating something more than just a pit stop.
In the back seat, Lily was hunched over her tablet, reviewing footage from Cairo, her drone. “The inflow jets were insane,” she murmured. Boone snorted, swivelling to glance at her.
Boon leaning towards Tyler with a raised eyebrow whispered so only Tyler could hear him. “So, when are you gonna drop the act? I know where we’re headed.”
Tyler chuckled, but his eyes stayed on the road. “Guess it was hard to slip one past you, huh?”
“You think?” Boone replied with a smirk. “What gave it away—oh, I don’t know, maybe the fact that I’m Jake’s godfather?”
Tyler shushed him, not wanting Boone to spoil the surprise. Of course Boone knew about your existence and of your son. Boone had been Tyler’s best friend for years, even before they started YouTube. He had been there when you guys met, started a relationship, got married, had your son and the last time he was there was for your gender reveal.
Lily leaned forward and turned toward Tyler, a crooked grin plastered across her face. “Alright, Ty, spill it. Where the hell are we going? You’ve been suspiciously quiet since we left the highway. And now you’ve got Boone whispering stuff into your ear. When has he ever been this quiet?”
Tyler chuckled but kept his eyes on the road. “Relax, lily. I told you, we’re heading to my hometown. Figured we could all use a real bed and a home-cooked meal for a change. Motel breakfasts are starting to taste like cardboard.”
Dani, who talked from the radio given that she was behind in the Van, raised an eyebrow. “Your hometown? Tyler you’ve only ever talked about it once, what is there to do here really? Is there some sort of catch?”
“No catch,” Tyler replied smoothly. “Just thought you guys deserve something better. And I figured it’s finally time you meet someone really important to me.”
The rest of the team stayed curious and said nothing more. They trusted Tyler—he had proven himself time and again in the chaos of the storm-chasing world. If he said they were in for a treat, they believed him.
After another twenty minutes of winding roads and open fields, Tyler turned onto a long gravel driveway lined with vibrant green grass. The farmhouse at the end of the drive came into view, its white paint glowing softly in the golden light of the setting sun. Animals roamed nearby, adding life to the picturesque scene.
The team climbed out of the Truck and Van, stretching their legs and taking in their surroundings. The farmhouse was surrounded by rolling fields, with a red barn off to one side and a small garden near the porch. The air was warm and smelled faintly of wildflowers and fresh hay. There was a small lake in front of the farmhouse surrounded by fences.
“Wow,” said Dexter, the least chaotic team member. “It’s… peaceful.”
“Yeah,” Tyler said softly, his voice carrying a hint of nostalgia. “It is. Home sweet home,” Tyler said as he approached the house more.
Boone followed his pace, grinning. “Ah, the Owens family ranch. Been too long since I’ve been here.”
“You’ve been here before?” Lily asked, surprised.
“Sure have,” Boone replied. “I’m practically family.”
The front door creaked open, and you stepped onto the porch, wearing a white top stretched slightly over your rounded belly and a pair of jeans. Tyler’s cowboy hat sat snugly on your head, the one he hadn’t worn in years. Your face lit up the moment you saw him, a smile breaking across your lips.
“There’s my troublemaker,” you said warmly, your accent as sweet as honey.
Tyler’s grin widened as he climbed the steps, pulling you into a gentle hug careful not to press too hard against your belly. “Hey, darlin’. You look beautiful.”
Boone didn’t hesitate. “Y/N! Look at you, glowing as always. How’s my niece?,” he said, bounding up the steps to greet you. He hugged you warmly, then ruffled your hair affectionately. “And still stealing hats, I see.”
You laughed. “Good to see you too, Boone. Baby’s fine. And yes, it’s mine now.” You turned back to your husband and hugged him once again. The hug felt like home. After days worrying for your husband he was finally back home and in your arms.
The team hung back awkwardly, unsure of what to do. Dexter was the first to break the silence. “Uh, hi. I’m so confused right now.”
You laughed loudly, your eyes twinkling. You knew the team must be confused, as Tyler had never spoken about you unless it was with Boone. “Y’all must be Tyler’s team. I’m Y/N. The wife.”
Upon the reveal, the team let their mouths hang open in shock. They never imagined Tyler out of all people would be married with a kid on the way. He was always the reckless one, the first to jump into danger. Nobody ever really thought about him potentially having a family, with the way he was. They also didn't expect Boone to have known and let this a secret for so long. That man can never shut his mouth.
Tyler turned back to his team, gesturing for them to come closer. “Everyone, this is Y/N—my wife. Y/N, meet the crew: Boone you already know, This is Dexter, Dani, and Lily.”
You smiled warmly and waved them inside. “Y’all must be starving. Tyler called ahead, so I made enough food to feed an army. Come on in and make yourselves at home.”
As the group filed into the house, Lily glanced at Tyler, her eyes wide with surprise. “You’re married? And… you’re going to be a dad?”
Tyler grinned sheepishly, scratching the back of his neck. “Yeah, I guess I never mentioned that, huh? Meet the real reason I get back in one piece after every chase.”
The house was cosy, filled with the comforting smells of roast chicken, fresh bread, and apple pie. The dining table was already set, you had clearly gone out of your way to make the team feel welcome.
“This is incredible,” Lily said, taking a seat at the table. “You really didn’t have to go all out for us.”
You waved her off with a laugh. “Oh, please. Tyler told me how hard you’ve all been working. Besides, I saw the live stream of that last tornado. Y’all are insane, by the way. I thought I’d reward your bravery or, well, craziness with a good meal.”
Boone leaned back in his chair, grinning, finally happy to be home. “It’s both, Y/N. And that tornado was a beauty, wasn’t it?”
“Did you see the way the funnel shifted when it hit that open field? Classic EF-3 behaviour.” Tyler suddenly asked as he turned to you. You smiled at the excitement in your husband's voice, nodding towards him. Despite dropping out and never finishing his career in meteorology he was quite well educated in the field of tornadoes.
Dexter nodded, his voice animated. “And the inflow jets—did you catch those? Perfect conditions for a multi-vortex system.”
You chuckled as you started serving the food. “I don’t understand half of what you’re saying, but I could tell y’all were thrilled. It was like watching kids on Christmas morning.”
As the conversation flowed between all of you, a soft noise interrupted. From the staircase next to the dining room came the sound of small, hesitant footsteps.
Everyone turned to see a little boy, about three years old, standing at the bottom of the stairs. He was rubbing his sleepy eyes with one hand, clutching a worn stuffed bear in the other. His curls were tousled from sleep, and he blinked at the group with a mixture of curiosity and shyness.
“Daddy?” the boy said softly, his voice thick with sleep.
Tyler’s expression melted. “Hey, bud,” he said, getting up from his chair. He crossed the room in a few strides and knelt down to scoop the boy into his arms. “What are you doing up? Thought your momma put you to sleep for the afternoon.”
The boy rested his head on Tyler’s shoulder and mumbled, “I Had a dream.”
Tyler kissed the top of his son’s head and held him close. “It’s okay, buddy. Daddy 's here.”
Boone chuckled, leaning back in his chair at the sight of the small kid. “There 's my boy. Come here, kiddo.”
Jake squirmed out of Tyler’s arms and ran to Boone, climbing onto his lap. Boone greeted him with a fist bump. “What’d I tell you about staying up past your bedtime, huh?”
Jake giggled. “Uncle Boone!”
The rest of the team stared, dumbfounded. Dani finally blurted out, “Wait you knew about this?!”
Boone shrugged. “Of course. I’m his godfather and uncle. Perks of being Tyler’s actual best friend.”
“Everyone,” Tyler said, turning back to the group, “this is Jake, our little man.”
Jake lifted his head from Boone's shoulder and looked at the team, his big brown eyes scanning the unfamiliar faces. “Hi,” he said shyly.
Lily smiled warmly. “Hi, Jake. I’m Lily. It’s nice to meet you.”
You walked over and gently ruffled your son's curls. “Jake, these are Daddy’s other friends. They’re going to stay with us tonight.”
Jake’s face lit up. “Really?”
“Yep,” Tyler said, bouncing him lightly. “And you know what? I think they might even make pretty good aunts and uncles, don’t you?”
Jake giggled, his earlier sleepiness forgotten. “Yeah! Now I have more people to play with!”
“That’s right buddy.” Boone smiled, hugging the kid one last time before he jumped out of his lap and went back to his fathers embrace.
The meal progressed with a light-hearted warmth that settled over everyone like a blanket. Boone and Dexter were animatedly recounting their most chaotic storm-chasing moments, while Dani and Lily chimed in with their own tales. Jake sat on Tyler’s lap, happily munching on a slice of buttered bread, his small hands gripping the edges of the plate to keep it steady.
You observed the scene with a soft smile, your hand resting on your growing belly. Tyler caught your gaze as he let his free hand rest on top of the one holding your belly. He smiled down at you. He was happy to be home.
“You’ve done good, sweetheart,” he said, his voice low but full of admiration.
She tilted her head, her smile widening. “Couldn’t have done it without you, Ty.”
The team exchanged subtle glances, sensing the affection radiating between the two. Lily, unable to resist, leaned over to you. “You two are adorable. What’s your secret?”
That caused a laugh out of you. “Oh, it’s no secret. Just a lot of patience and knowing when to call him out on his nonsense.” You shot Tyler a teasing look, and he feigned innocence.
“Hey now,” Tyler said, grinning. “I’m a perfect angel.”
Jake looked up from his plate, his face lighting up with a mischievous grin. “Daddy’s silly!”
The table erupted into laughter, and Tyler tickled Jake’s sides, eliciting a burst of giggles from the little boy. “Come on Bug, eat all your food. Don’t want you to be hungry later.” You looked at your son as you gently grabbed his bread and gave it to him. Gently caressing his forehead and kissing his cheek lovingly. All while Tyler stared at you with adoration in his eyes.
As the evening wore on, You excused yourself briefly to check on the dessert. Tyler took the opportunity to follow you into the kitchen, leaving Jake to sit back on Boone lap and be entertained by the team.
The kitchen was warm and cosy, filled with the comforting aroma of apples and cinnamon as you carefully pulled the steaming pie from the oven. You moved with practiced ease, placing it on a cooling rack, when suddenly you felt a familiar presence behind you.
“Now, what do I have to do to get my hands on a slice of that?” Tyler’s voice was low and teasing, the grin audible in his tone.
You smirked, not bothering to turn around. “Depends. Are you talking about the pie or me?”
Tyler laughed softly and stepped closer, slipping his arms around your waist, his front pressed against your back. “Both, but let’s start with you.” He leaned in, brushing his lips along the curve of your neck.
“Ty,” you said, your voice half a warning, half a giggle. “We have company, remember? We don’t want Boone to catch us again do we?”
“They’re busy stuffing their faces and trying to keep Jake from giving Boone another black eye,” he murmured, his lips trailing to your ear. “Besides, I don’t get moments like this nearly enough.”
You sighed, leaning back into his embrace. “You’re impossible, you know that?”
“And you’re gorgeous,” he countered without missing a beat, his hands sliding up to rest gently over your growing belly. “And carrying my baby girl? That makes you even more irresistible.”
You carefully turned in his arms, bow facing each other as you rested your hands on his chest. “You’ve got a silver tongue, Mr. Owens. Has it ever gotten you into trouble?”
He grinned, his hazel eyes sparkling. “Only when I’m not careful. Lucky for me, I married a woman who keeps me in line.”
You laughed, shaking your head. “You’re not so cocky now, are you?”
“Only with you,” he said, leaning down until your foreheads touched. “Well, and maybe with Jake when he gives me that little puppy-dog look. Kid’s got my heart wrapped around his finger. Can never say no to him.”
You laughed softly, holding his figure even more, not wanting to let go. You leaned your head on his chest, looking sideways outside the window to the sun that illuminated your home.
“You’re incredible, you know that?” he murmured as his chin rested upon your head.
“And you’re a shameless flirt.”
“Guilty,” he admitted, pressing a soft kiss to your temple. “But seriously, I just wanted to thank you for this. For all of it. I know it’s not easy having me running around the country chasing storms.”
You turned in his arms, eyes meeting his. “Ty, I knew what I was signing up for when I married you. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Besides, you always come back to us. That’s what matters.”
His expression softened, and he placed a hand gently on your belly again. “And soon, there’s going to be even more reason to keep coming back.”
You placed your hand over his, your smile tender. “She’s going to love you just as much as Jake does. Maybe even more if she inherits your stubbornness.”
He chuckled. “Let’s hope she gets your patience instead.”.
Your expression softened as you traced a finger along his jawline. “You’re a good dad, Tyler. I see it every day in how Jake lights up around you. And I know you’re going to be just as amazing with our daughter.”
He kissed you softly, a lingering tenderness in the way he held you close. “That’s the plan, sweetheart. Keep coming back to you, Jake, and this little one. Always.”
The moment was interrupted by a loud crash from the dining room.
“Jake!” Boone’s voice carried through the house. “Why am I always the bad guy?”
“It wasn’t me!” Jake shouted back, his voice ringing with childlike defiance.
You groaned, pulling away with a reluctant smile. “Guess I’d better rescue Boone before Jake recruits the others against him.”
Tyler laughed, giving you a playful smack on the ass as you walked away. “Don’t take too long, baby. I’m still waiting on that pie—and you.”
You threw him a teasing look over her shoulder. “Behave, Ty.”
When you stepped back into the dining room, Jake was perched on Dexter’s lap, gleefully recounting how Boone had “knocked the chair over all by himself.” Boone stood nearby, arms crossed and feigning offence.
“For the record,” Boone declared, “this kid’s already mastered the fine art of scapegoating.”
“I learned it from Daddy!” Jake said with a giggle, earning a roar of laughter from the table.
You sighed, shaking your head as you started slicing the pie. “I see Jake’s picking up all your best habits, Ty.”
Tyler grinned shamelessly, taking a seat next to you. “Can’t blame the kid for wanting to be like his old man.” He reached over to ruffle Jake’s curls, then turned to you. “But if you want to keep us in line, you’d better bring that pie over here before we all riot.”
You rolled your eyes, setting the pie on the table with a grin. “You’re lucky I love you, Tyler Owens.”
He leaned back in his chair, giving you a wink. “Lucky’s an understatement, baby. I hit the jackpot.”
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
As the last bite of pie was finished and the laughter around the table quieted, you leaned back in your chair, feeling satisfied but a little tired. Tyler’s gaze met yours across the table, his expression softening with concern as he stood up, stretching his back.
“We need to clean up.” You muttered under your breath, ready to stand up until Tyler pushed you gently back down to sit.
“Alright, everyone,” Tyler said, his voice carrying the gentle authority that always seemed to get things done. “You’ve all eaten, now it’s time to let my wife take a break. She’s been working hard today.”
Jake, who had been leaning back in his chair, looked confused. “Why do we need to clean up?”
“Because the Missus said so,” Tyler interrupted with a wink, his playful grin lighting up his face. “And trust me, when the Missus speaks, everyone listens.”
You couldn’t help but smile at the playful banter between them, but you appreciated how Tyler always made sure you weren’t overburdened. It was his way of showing care, in everything from big gestures to little moments like this.
One by one, the team began to rise from the table, and soon enough, the dishes were being cleared away. Boone and Dexter were the first to take charge of the plates, laughing as they competed to see who could load the dishwasher faster. Lily helped wipe down the table, while Jake, who still looked a little reluctant, finally took the trash bag outside with Boone’s encouragement.
It didn’t take long before the kitchen was tidied up, and the team filed out to check on the horses. You watched them from the window as they made their way to the stables, chatting with Jake in tow, all smiles and laughter. You felt a contentment settle over you, watching the scene from your peaceful spot inside.
Tyler, noticing that you hadn’t moved from your seat, stepped toward you and held out his hand. “You need a break, too,” he said softly, as if reading your thoughts. “Come on, let’s get some fresh air.”
You stood, taking his hand, and together you walked outside to the front porch. The soft evening light bathed the world in golden hues as you made your way to the rocking chair. Tyler sat first, patting the seat next to him, and you sank into the chair beside him, leaning back with a sigh of relief.
Tyler settled beside you, his hand resting gently on your baby bump. His thumb traced slow circles, a tender gesture that made your heart swell. You closed your eyes for a moment, letting the gentle rocking of the chair soothe your tired muscles. The sound of the team’s voices echoed from the stables, a distant hum of joy and energy, but it felt far away from the calm you found in this quiet moment.
You rested your head on Tyler’s shoulder, your fingers resting over his hand on your belly. “Tired?” He asked you, noticing your calmness and weight on his shoulder.
“No. I’m just thinking about how much I missed you.”
He kissed the top of your head, wrapping his arm tighter around you. “Missed you more. And I mean it, Y/N. Everything we’ve built here… it’s the reason I keep going. The reason I come back.”
Your eyes glistened as you looked up at him. “You’re the reason this feels like home, Ty.”
He smiled, tilting your chin up so he could kiss you again, slow and sweet. “Then I guess we’re even, Baby.”

this isn't much of a plot or anything but i cannot stop thinking about storm par crowding into a small diner somewhere after a long day and reader falling asleep on scott's shoulder
Tired | Scott x Reader
Tumblr media
A/N: Jealous Scott! Kinda short, please leave more requests!
The diner was cute, quaint and filled with locals who stared at Storm Par as they filed into the establishment. You were behind Scott and in front of Javi, barely able to focus on keeping your feet in front of you.
Your group split in two, most Storm Par members filing into a six person booth, leaving you, Scott, and Javi a four person booth. Not really thinking, you sat next to Scott, too tired to abide by your usual nervousness around him. Javi sat across from the two of you.
“Are you okay?” You barely registered that Scott was talking to you.
“What? Oh, yeah, I’m just really tired.”
“What the hell did you do last night?” Javi laughed.
Well, in fact, what you had done last night was smoke a bong with Boone, get violently too high, and throw your guts up for two hours as soon as you got back to your motel room. You bit your lip.
Javi had been half joking, but your silence raised both men’s suspicions. “Oh my god,” Javi chuckled. “What did you do?”
“Would you kill me if I said I was maybe smoking with the enemy?”
Javi cackled. “Which one of them?”
“Boone.”
You didn’t notice Scott stiffen beside you.
“Makes sense,” Javi smirked. “Dude screams stoner.”
“Yeah,” you groaned. “He had good shit. Too good. I got sick, didn’t sleep much.”
“He got you sick?” Again, you missed Scott’s tight, angry tone. Javi didn’t, raising a brow at his partner.
“It wasn’t his fault,” you defended Boone. “He loaded the bowl with keef and I’ve only smoked my pen for the last three months.”
Scott didn’t smoke, so he didn’t really understand, but Javi did, nodding. “Yeah, that’ll do it.”
The waitress interrupted. “What can I get you guys?”
Scott ordered first, then you, who ordered nothing but a coffee, and finally Javi. Scott tried to circle back to your night with Boone but you shrugged him off, yawning.
You were quiet as he eventually fell into conversation with Javi. Everytime you blinked, your eyes remained closed a little longer each time. Scott and Javi’s low voices lulled you to sleep. You stopped understanding what they were talking about, eyelids drooping, head hanging to your side. You fell asleep over your coffee.
Right onto Scott’s shoulder.
He’d been mid-sentence when he felt weight on his shoulder, immediately pausing his statement. He glanced over to see your head, resting on his shoulder as you breathed shallowly.
Javi chuckled. “You were so worried about Boone, but look who’s shoulder she fell asleep on.”
Scott didn’t blush, but if he did he would have. “Whatever,” he grumbled. He slouched in his seat to lower his shoulder, making you more comfortable. You sighed and nuzzled into him. Javi smirked at the look on Scott’s face. “Shut up,” Scott snapped, but even he couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at his lips.

Tiny Tornado
Summary: Tyler Owens x fe!Reader -> When a tornado rips through a rodeo, you save a life you weren't expecting to have to save. Upon taking them home, Tyler comes to find out they're a Tiny Tornado.
Disclaimer: This fic does include child abandonment in the beginning, as well as damage done by tornadoes, angst. Happy ending. Slow burn romance, Wranglers being a family and the ultimate Aunties and Uncles, fluffy and funny moments, Tyler and Reader being parents. Not Proof Read.
Tumblr media
Country music blasted over the speakers across the rodeo, different voices speaking over the lyrics as they announced which activities were about to start and when you could find them.
Like every summer, you volunteered at the rodeo to help out with crowd control whilst the others did their part. Tyler was helping around the rodeo cowboys, talking some of them through their fear before they mounted a bull for the first time in front of the mass crowd.
Dani, Dexter and Kate had set up a stall to provide information about their work, raise some money to help feed the families who were affected by the tornadoes that tore through homes.
Javi was on crowd control with you, helping those who were lost or in need of directions. Meanwhile, Lily and Boone were by the kids tent showing them footage of different tornadoes, explaining why they can be scary but that they don’t have to be afraid of them.
And everything was going great until the sirens started.
People started running, horses were set loose, bulls were either left or ushered towards their pens. Finding your fellow Wranglers, you all started directing everyone to safety whilst you all started running yourselves.
Javi helped a four year old who had fallen into the ground, her mom thanking Javi before running along with him. Boone and Lily kept an eye on the kids as they ran towards their parents, grabbing their hands for dear life.
However, as you ran past the stalls, colliding into Tyler, you spotted a box under the stands.
It was moving.
“Come on! We gotta go!”
Tyler tried to pull you with him, but your eyes remained fixed on the box. Maybe it was just the wind.
But it wasn’t.
Over the yelling, and the wind, and the tramping of feet, you heard a scream.
A baby’s cry.
Breaking free from Tyler’s grasp, you heard him yell for you but you remained focused on the box under the stands. Why was there a baby in a box? Had someone left them? Who would leave a baby in the middle of a rodeo?
Feeling your hand slip from his, Tyler turned and called your name but you ignored him. He tried to run after you, only to be cut off by a horse.
“Whoa!”
He slipped in the grass but managed to regain his balance just as you came to a stop by a cardboard box.
The sirens were getting louder, and so was the wind. You didn’t have much time.
“Y/n! Come on! We’ve got to-”
Tyler stopped talking as he saw what you lifted from the box. Was it what he thought it was?
He didn’t have long to think because in the distance he could see a growing dark cloud, ready to tear everything from the ground.
“Y/n!”
Finally you looked up and ran towards him. Holding the baby to your chest, he placed an arm around you, both of you ducking as something came flying behind you.
“Come on, we need to get somewhere safe.”
And you did.
Reaching a mechanics garage, Tyler looked behind him finding people either running towards their cars. He yelled but they didn’t hear him.
The tornado was only getting closer.
So he ran.
Running and letting the door close, he ran into the pit before crouching beside you.
You lowered the baby from your chest to take a look at them. They were wrapped in a sage green baby blanket, a note clipped to it which you were yet to look at.
“Can’t be more than five months.”
“How can someone leave a baby alone like that?”
With a loud crashing sound, you cradled the baby as Tyler turned his body towards you, covering you from the noise.
The baby cried out and all you could do was wrap the blanket tighter around them and try to cover their ears with your hand.
“It’s okay, it’ll be over soon.” You heard Tyler say.
Around you, there were kids no more than seven, cradling themselves into their parents. Some were crying, their parents comforting them; others were trying their best to be brave and seeing Tyler – the Youtube famous Tornado Wrangler – made them braver. Especially when they heard him say it would be over soon.
From the back, one of the children stood up, shouting out for their mom. Standing, Lily ran towards the back and sat down with the kid.
“It’s okay, we’ll find your mom. But we need to stay down, okay?” A loud crash came through the top of the garage and Lily covered the child as best as she could.
You didn’t know how long it lasted. The wind just seemed to get louder and louder, more things flew in and out of the garage before finally the noise stopped.
Everyone stayed down for a few minutes before standing, Kate and Javi moved to check outside before coming back and helping people up and back outside.
Most places were trashed. Tents were blown across the field, food scraps melted in with the mud and dirt, and plenty of trucks and cars had been spun and flipped around the place.
But you still held a baby in your arms.
“It’s okay, it’s okay. We’re safe now. You’re safe.”
It took a moment but you finally managed to settle the baby before Javi walked over to check on you. “Is that a baby?”
You nodded. “Someone left them in a box. If I hadn’t spotted it…”
Javi placed an arm around you. “Maybe we can find someone. I’ll go with you.”
After three hours and two different phone calls being made to social services and a ton of others being made to local foster homes – most of which had been hit by the tornado, too – you were in the passenger seat of Tyler’s truck as they drove back to Kate’s farm.
She’d left not long after helping people out of the garage; fearful the tornado would take a turn and head towards her mom.
The others stayed to help whilst Tyler took you back. He’d resupply and head back once he knew you were okay.
“Have you read the note yet?”
You shook your head, plucking it from the blanket. “Who can just leave a baby like that? In the middle of a rodeo? What if I hadn’t spotted it? What if-”
“You can’t torture yourself with what if’s. You found ‘em. That’s what matters.”
You took a breath and looked down at the baby in front of you, sound asleep. So innocent, so tiny in comparison to the rest of the world.
Looking at the paper, you read the cover.
I’m Sorry.
Flipping it open, you read the short letter out loud.
To whoever finds her,
With everyone at the rodeo, I know she’ll be safe. It’s my hope one good family will take her in. I thought I could help her, but I can’t. Maybe you can.
Please keep her safe
Tyler looked over at you from where he sat. “What? No name?”
You shook your head. “Apparently not.”
“Is her birth registered?”
You shrugged your shoulders. “No idea.”
“Then we should name her.”
You looked at Tyler. “Can we even do that?”
“We can’t just keep calling her ‘her’, can we?”
“No, I suppose not.” Looking down as the sleeping baby in your arms, you spoke out loud. “What is your name, little one?”
As Tyler pulled into the driveway, he hopped out and rounded the truck to help you out as Kate and Cathy came to the front door.
“Oh, the poor thing. Kate told me. I’ve set up a cot in the attic room. It’s the warmest room in the house.”
“Thanks, Cathy.”
“What did the cops say?”
Cathy followed you up the stairs, Kate going out to help Tyler load up the truck with fresh supplies.
“That she has to stay with me for a few days until social services get in contact. Most homes have been taken out in the storm so there’s no-one to take her. And I didn’t like the idea of not knowing what’s going to happen.”
Cathy nodded. “I would have done the same thing. Do you know what you’re doing?”
You sighed. “Not really. I’ve never exactly found a baby in the middle of a tornado before.”
Cathy just graced you with a warm smile. “We’ll all help out. This kid won’t have to worry about anything.”
It wasn’t until just after two in the morning that everyone came back, instantly crashing into their beds. But Tyler waited.
“She’s up in the attic.”
“Thank you.”
You heard Tyler’s footsteps walking down the hall before the door clicked open. “I’m still awake. It’s okay. Come on in.”
He slipped his boots off by the door before closing it behind him.
“How is everyone?”
“Tired.” Tyler answered truthfully. “How are you?”
Tyler stood beside the crib where your hand was in between the bars, holding onto the baby’s hand. Gently, Tyler lifted up the blanket that had dipped a little before laying his finger in the baby’s other hand.
Almost instantly, their fingers curled around his finger. Her head turned towards him before she sighed constantly and relaxed again.
“I think she likes you.” You smiled at Tyler from where you lay in bed.
Tyler couldn’t help but smile as he looked back at the baby. “Not a care in the world. Have you thought of a name yet?”
You shook your head. “Not yet. I was hoping the others could help. Cathy says she has a baby book somewhere filled with names.”
Slowly, making sure not to hit the creaky parts of the floor, he walked to the other side of the bed and lay on top of the covers with you.
“We’ll find a name.”
It was laying in the silence, hearing the content snores from the baby, that sent you and Tyler into a deep sleep. When you woke up, your hand was back on your bed and the baby was no longer in her crib.
For a moment, you panicked. Until you saw Tyler stood by the dresser, talking quietly to her.
“You’re lucky I know how to do this, or else I’d be asking Boone for help and as much as he’s my best friend, he’s not the person I’d want to ask.” Tyler said to her. “You know, he once did a backflip off the top of my truck. Yeah, just did it. Right there. And as cool as it was, I did think we were about to end up in the ER. Point is – don’t follow Boone’s idea of backflipping off a truck. It’s very dangerous.”
Clasping the baby grow shut, Tyler placed the dirty diaper into a diaper bag and threw it into the lined trash can beside him with the other diaper wipes.
Then you saw an image that your ovaries would never let you forget.
A freshly washed Tyler dressed in a clean white t-shirt and jeans, lifting up a baby before holding her against his chest and walking around the small floor before taking her to the window, showing her the view.
“You’re a natural.”
Tyler turned his head and looked at you before smiling. “Hey, you’re awake. How’d you sleep?”
You nodded. “Pretty good. How long have you been up?”
“Only about an hour. She woke up like thirty minutes ago. I didn’t want to disturb you.”
You smiled. “Thanks.”
Twenty minutes later, you showered yourself and got dressed before meeting Tyler downstairs where Cathy was teaching him how to properly burp her.
Of course, everyone had a thousand questions so once the understandable questions were cleared up, you were all sat in the living room, the baby on Kate’s knee, going over baby names.
“I never knew so much went into naming a baby.”
Cathy nodded. “It sets them up for the rest of their lives. God knows it took me long enough to choose Kate’s.”
“Really?” She asked.
Cathy nodded. “Your dad and I vetoed a lot of names in the beginning. It wasn’t until the midwife came running up our driveway after her shift had finished that I decided on a name.”
Dexter flipped through the book before offering up a name. Nobody agreed on it.
It wasn’t until after an entire day of going through baby names, different meanings, past relationships with the different names – some good, some bad – that a name was found.
Despite having napped, eaten, burped and a fresh diaper, she just wouldn’t settle. Until Dexter took her outside to look up at the stars in the sky.
By the time you walked out onto the porch, standing beside Tyler, Dexter was pointing up at the different constellations and explaining each one and what they meant.
“I don’t know how he does it, but he’d settled her.”
“It’s because he’s calming,” you said. “If anyone was going to be calm enough to settle her, it would be Dex.”
Tyler smiled. “Any word from the social?”
You shook your head as you shoved your hands into your back pockets. “Not yet. They’re looking for a home but, in the meantime, she’s stuck with us. They’re sending out a social worker tomorrow to come and look at the place to make sure she’s not in any immediate danger with us.”
Tyler nodded. “We still need to find her a name.”
You sighed. “I know.”
Looking back out to Dexter and the baby, you leaned your head against Tyler’s shoulder.
“And no matter where you are in the world, you can just look up at the sky and know we’re looking at the same one.” Dexter told her. “I don’t know how long you’re gonna be with us, kiddo. But…if you remember us, or need some help, there’s a chance the stars will be able to show you.”
As Dexter looked up into the sky and back down to the baby, the stars reflecting in her eyes, something hit him.
He turned around quickly. “SKYE!”
You and Tyler stood tall and looked at each other before looking back. “What?”
Dexter walked over to you both. “Skye. Her name. We could call her Skye.”
You and Tyler looked at each other before looking down at the baby. “Do you like that name?”
She definitely looked like a Skye. And by the happy babble she gave, she seemed to agree.
Tyler looked at you. “Skye it is, then. Guys! Come out here!”
Following one by one, they all appeared on the porch. “Dexter’s found her name.”
They all looked at him, hopeful.
“Skye.”
They all gave an ‘aww’. “Skye. Hi, Skye.”
Beside Tyler, Boone almost collapsed. “Man, I tell you. Choosing a baby name is hard.”
Tyler chuckled. “Maybe you can find another way to use those post-it notes.”
So, finally she had a name.
All she needed was a home.
But from the social worker’s inspection, she had already found one.
She came over three times in the space of two weeks, surprising everyone each time. But each time, her report came out better than the last until she made you an offer.
“Now, we can take her into foster care. There are a few homes a couple towns over but there’s no guarantee for adoption. Between the recent tornadoes and the cost of living recently, the cost of taking in a baby this young…it’s rare we’re gonna find a couple willing to take her in permanently. But, myself and my colleagues do believe the best place for Skye is here.”
You couldn’t deny you hadn’t grown attached to her. Nobody could. You’d all found a new routine that easily fitted around her, and deep down, none of you wanted it any other way. But was a Tornado family truly the best place?
“If you didn’t already have a home base, we wouldn’t have considered it so quickly. But…” The social worker looked around. “You’ve got a good home here. Space for her to run around, plenty of people willing to help. So, if any of you would, in fact, wish to take Skye on permanently, I can help you do so.”
With Skye in your arms, you looked around at the rest of the Wranglers. They’d all been in tears for the last two days, figuring out how to say goodbye to her since you’d all been under the belief the social worker was getting ready to take her away.
“I…”
You looked at Tyler and the others. Then Lily leaned forward. “Can we talk about it, first?”
The social worker nodded. “Of course. This isn’t a light decision to be made. And it doesn’t have to be right away, but until you do make a decision, Skye will be taken into a foster home.”
Then Cathy stood. “It’s your decision. If you choose to keep her…her room is already set up.” Once more, she graced you with a warm smile before inviting the social worker into the kitchen for a drink. Then everyone took a seat.
“It’s a big decision.”
“Are we sure tornado wrangling is the place for a kid?”
“It’s not like we’d be taking her with us into a tornado.”
“We can all split the duties.”
“But if we keep her, one of us is going to have to adopt her. We can’t all be on the birth certificate.”
“Do we even know what we’re doing? Shouldn’t she be with a less adrenaline driven family?”
“They do say kids have less allergies growing up on a farm. They have more compassion and understanding of the world.”
“And we can help her with her homework.”
“Two of my childhood friends are now teachers at our old school.” Kate mentioned. “So it’s a good school district.”
It was another ten minutes of similar discussions until eventually Dani spoke up.
“You guys know what we’re doing?”
The other’s didn’t seem to catch on to what they were doing. But you did.
Looking down at the sleepy baby in your arms, you felt yourself smile. “We’re planning our lives with her. I can’t imagine a life without her.”
“Neither can I.” Lily leaned over, stroking Skye’s arm.
“Neither can I.” Boone joined, leaning over the back of the sofa.
Dani was in agreement, then Javi, Kate, Dexter and finally Tyler.
Crouching on the floor in front of you, Tyler looked at you. “So, we’re doing this?”
You both looked around at the others, them looking back.
“We’re doing this.”
~~~~~~
The sun had been beating down all day. Yourself and the Wranglers had managed to chase the third EF-2 of the week and were finally putting the data through its paces. And just as the hum of the barn wrapped around you all for the second time that hour, you heard a familiar set of giggles.
“Momma!”
Skye giggled and shrieked as she looked behind her before running through the barn and towards you. Sliding away from your desk, you opened your arms and she jumped into them as quickly as she could.
“Quick, you’ve gotta hide me.”
“Hide you? Why?”
Then you heard Boone’s voice from outside the barn door. “I’m the big, scary monster.”
Skye shrieked again before she wiggled from your grasp and hid under your desk. As you looked at her, she placed her finger against her lips and you nodded before you rolled your chair back towards your desk.
Boone continued his act of being the big scary monster, calling out for his new best friend he was playing hide and seek with.
“I’m sorry Mr Monster, I haven’t seen Skye anywhere.”
Boone pouted. “Mr Monster’s sad. He can’t find his best friend.”
Then from under Kate’s desk, Skye ran out and around. “I’m here!”
“Best friend!”
Boone scooped her up into his arms, her giggles filling the entire barn. You’d never get tired of hearing her laugh.
“Do I hear a Tiny Tornado in here?”
Skye leaned up high and gasped. “Let me down, let me down.”
Boone set her on her feet. “There you go, kid.”
“Yay!”
Running directly back down to the barn doors, Tyler dropped the pile of rope he was carrying over his shoulder, to the ground beside him. As Skye reached him, he bent down before he lifted her into the air, and he swung her back into his arms.
“How’s your day been, kiddo?”
“Aun’y Cathy teached me to ride a ‘orse.”
“Taught!” You called out to Skye.
Tyler nodded. “Your mom’s right. She taught you to ride a horse.”
“She taught me to ‘ide and ‘orse.”
Tyler smiled. “Did you enjoy it?”
Skye nodded. “She promised to show me tomorrow.”
Tyler smiled, “Well, in that case, you’re gonna need your own hat.”
From your desk, you watched as Tyler set Skye onto her feet before he reached for something just outside the barn doors. Then, with one knee on the floor, Tyler pulled her to stand a little closer.
“This right ‘ere. This was my first cowboy hat.”
Skye’s eyes lit up. You could all see her practically vibrating on the spot as she gasped and tried to stay still.
“And since Cathy tells me you did such a good job with the horses today, I think it’s only right you get your own.”
“Really?”
Tyler nodded. “‘Course, kiddo.”
“So, Boone, you recording this?” Tyler turned back to Skye. “S’ not everyday a girl gets ‘er first hat.”
Boone pressed record as everyone came and stood around her, Dani and Kate giving their own rendition of a crowning ceremony theme.
And once the hat hit her head, Skye’s eyes kept looking up at it.
“What’d ya think, Momma?”
Skye turned to you, her eyes begging the same question Tyler just asked. And you could help but just smile.
“I think you look wonderful, little one.”
Skye started smiling even wider than before and jumping up and down before nearly knocking Tyler over with how tightly she hugged him. “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
“You’re welcome, kiddo.”
“Baby, you wanna go and show Cathy?”
Skye stood back and nodded. “Can I?”
You and Tyler nodded and with a hand on the top of her hat, she ran out of the barn and down the field towards Cathy.
“Thank you for doing that with her, Ty.”
Tyler just smiled. “She’s my Tiny Tornado.”
“You know, she’s not gonna wanna ever take it off.”
And it was true. Skye wore it whenever she could. Running through the fields, eating her dinner, taking a bath; she did try and keep it on when getting dressed, but it got knocked off her head a few times.
The only time she took it off was when she saw Tyler take his own off when he hung it by the door. Coming down the stairs, you saw two cowboy hats hanging by the door and it made your heart melt.
And it only melted even more when you walked onto the back porch and found Skye cuddled up and falling fast asleep on Tyler’s chest.
An image like that one was one that you loved to see. It happened almost every night. Tyler was the one she would fall asleep on. Sometimes it would be in Lily’s lap when she played with her hair or when Dexter would tell her all about the stars.
Skye would fight sleep when she was learning but eventually sleep would win.
And she’d only fall deeper into sleep when Tyler began to lightly swing the porch seat.
“Can you believe she’s almost four?” You asked Tyler later that evening as you both folded what was left of the bed sheets and clothes. The others had long since gone to bed.
It was like that most nights; you and Tyler the last to go to bed.
Tyler shook his head. “Feels like only yesterday we registered her birth.”
“Before we know it, she’ll be off to college.”
Tyler chuckled. “We’ve still got years before that happens, but…I know what you mean. She’s growing up.”
“She’s learning how to ride a horse. Before we know it, she’ll be taming a tornado.”
Tyler smiled. “I don’t call her a Tiny Tornado for nothing.”
You smiled at a memory. “Did you see she hung her hat up, same as you?”
Tyler shook his head and disappeared into the hallway before coming back. “I think that’s officially the cutest thing I’ve seen today.”
“I know you’re not down on her birth certificate, but…you are her dad, Tyler.” You told him. “She loves you like one, and I know you love her as a daughter. I…I just wanted to tell you that.”
Tyler smiled. “Thank you.”
Forcing your gaze away from his, you looked back to the freshly folded clothes. “We should get to bed. God only knows what time that kid’ll wake up to be outside with Cathy and the horses.”
Tyler chuckled, “You’re right. Goodnight.”
“Night, Ty.”
Tyler watched as you climbed the stairs with the washing basket of freshly folded clothes and he waited until he heard your door click shut before he made his rounds around the house, locking the place up.
And as he lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, he wondered if he would ever be brave enough to tell you the truth about his feelings.
But apparently, the Tiny Tornado had enough courage to do that for the both of you.
It was a few weeks later, sitting at the breakfast table that Skye asked a question that nobody had been expecting.
“What’s a romance?”
Swinging her legs over the edge of the table chair as she waited on her cereal, Skye didn’t know what kind of bomb she was about to drop.
“Why do you wanna know, kiddo?” Dani asked as she handed Skye her bowl of coco pops.
Skye just shrugged. “That’s what Boone called my princess book.”
“Well, it’s not a bad thing.” Lily assured the little girl. “In fact, it’s something really, really good.”
“Is it?”
You nodded. “Yep.”
As Tyler placed his plate down on the table, he sat down beside Skye. “And there isn’t just one kind, either.”
“There isn’t?”
Javi chuckled from where he was leaning against the dishwasher. “Maybe you wanna explain what a romance is first, before you tell her there’s more than one.”
And so they did.
“It’s when two people meet in a story and they fall in love. So, like with Cinderella. You know how she meets Prince Charming but he doesn’t know who she is until she puts on the glass slipper and then they live happily ever after?”
Skye nodded at Cathy.
“Well, that’s a romance. It’s when two people fall in love and live happily ever after.”
For a moment, you felt a pair of eyes fall on you, but when you looked up, he was looking back at Skye.
“But there’s more than one?”
Crouching beside her, Dani explained. “You know how Dexter has all those books in the back of his camper?”
Skye nodded.
“Well, think of a romance like them. Each one has a different story.”
“Like Disney Princesses?”
Dani nodded. “Exactly like Disney Princesses. Sometimes they don’t know who the other person is until the big reveal, sometimes they’re childhood friends who fall in love when they meet again, sometimes they’re mortal enemies and think they don’t like each other until something makes them realise they don’t hate that person anymore.”
“Ooh, like Princess Diaries!”
Everyone, including Skye, turned and looked at Javi.
“What? It’s a good film.”
“Are there any other romances?”
Dani nodded. “Sure there is. Umm…”
Dani looked around the kitchen for help.
“Sometimes they’re soulmates who fall in love in every universe.” Skye gave a confused look, so Lily added; “Like the stories in the stars.”
“It can be love at first sight,” you told Skye.
“Sometimes they can be best friends and not realise they’re in love, even though everyone else can see it.” Cathy mentioned.
Then Skye dropped a tornado that was far too extreme to deal with at eight in the morning.
“Oh, like Momma and Tyler.”
The entire kitchen went silent. Javi, mid chew, looked over at Tyler who was turning redder by the minute as he looked at you by the stove, standing incredibly still.
Skye looked around, a little confused about what she had said. “What? What is it?”
You turned and looked at your daughter, speaking to her just as Tyler did.
“Nothing, honey-”
Just as you and Tyler locked eyes, the tension sparking from both of you, Boone barrelled through the back door with Dexter not too far behind him.
“Told you I could run it quicker, man.”
“A car is still faster.” Dexter told Boone.
Then they looked around, noticing the sheepish looks on everyone’s faces.
“Hey, what happened here?” Boone asked.
Lily stood, coming to your rescue. “Nothing. Did you get the-” She looked inside the brown paper bag. “YES! Waffles!”
As commotion started up in the kitchen again, Skye looked up at you from her seat as you handed her a spoon. “Momma, did I do something wrong?”
You shook your head. “No, baby.” Pressing a kiss to the top of her head, you sneaked a glance over at Tyler before forcing a smile back on your face to look at Skye.
“Eat up, honey. You’ve got a long day ahead of you.”
“Okay, Momma.”
For the rest of the day, you and Tyler avoided each other. Cathy apologised to both of you for having given the example in the first place, but she made sure to tell you she thought Skye was right.
“You’ve been pining after her for years.” Cathy told Tyler as he lifted another hay bale onto the back of the truck.
“We work together, Cathy. Nothing can happen there.”
“The hell it can’t.” Tyler looked at her. “Tyler, you and Y/n have been practically raising a kid together for almost four years. From day one of you getting here, I’ve seen how you look at her. And I know the others agree with me.”
Tyler stood tall. “How do the other’s know?”
Cathy just gave him a look.
“Either way, the kid is right. You’re both in love with each other, you’re both just too chicken to do something about it.”
Cathy gave a similar speech to you, too, when you came to check on Skye at the stables.
“And if you’re about to tell me you’re worried about Skye, don’t. Whether his name is on her birth certificate or not; whether she calls him dad or not. He is her dad. She is his daughter. Nothing will ever change that. Ever.”
With a short sigh, you looked out into the field where Skye was carrying a small bucket of water around to each of the garden plots.
Similar conversations were had throughout the day until the late afternoon rolled in and Tyler and you had to awkward dance-shuffle around each other to get in and out of the house whilst trying to avoid all sense of eye contact, but giving plenty when the other wasn’t looking.
Unbeknownst to both yourself and Tyler, Skye was standing on the fence bars with Kate.
The kid sighed heavily. “They’re always like that.”
“You’ve only been here for four years, kid. Imagine being here seven.”
Skye gasped. “Seven?” She tried to count that on her fingers quickly, but needed Kate’s help. Skye gasped again. “That’s bigger than me.”
Kate hummed as she nodded.
“Is this like one of the romances from before?” Skye sounded out.
Kate nodded. “I’m afraid so, kiddo. I’m afraid so.”
And unbeknownst to Kate at that moment, Skye was hatching a plan. But she needed her best friend’s help.
“Can you help me down?”
“‘Course, honey. Ready, three, two, one, jump.”
“Weeeee.” Holding onto her securely, Kate lifted Skey from the bars and set her down on the ground beside her.
“Thanks, Kate.”
“Be careful, honey!”
“I will!”
Less than five minutes later she burst through the barn doors and ran towards Boone, yelling out his name over and over again.
“Slow your roll there, kiddo.”
“I need your help, now, come on.” She tugged Boone’s hand until he was stood up. “Come on, come on, come on.”
Skye dragged him towards the carrot beds before laying on the dirt, telling him to join her. And so they hatched a plan.
“You’re a genius, Skye.”
“What’s a gen…gen..igus?”
“Genius.” Boone smiled. “It’s like a crazy smart person.”
“Oh, cool.”
High fiving, they got to work. Everyone had their orders to be in bed early. They couldn’t know why, but they all agreed. And Skye’s plan of laying in the dirt worked because the minute she came running through the back door, you caught her mid run.
“Where do you think you’re going, little miss?”
Skye smiled like butter wouldn’t melt. “To the table.”
“Covered in muck? What have you been doing? Rolling in the muck? Come on, bathroom.”
You ran Skye a bath before shoving her dirty clothes into the washing machine with the rest of the dirty laundry. Twenty minutes later, the mud Skye had collected on her person was washed down the drain and she was in a fresh pair of pajamas.
The rest of the night ran smoothly enough. Dinner was made and eaten, updates were shared about work, and Skye had asked Tyler to read her a bedtime story.
He read two stories before she began falling asleep beside him so sitting up, he laid her down under her covers before tucking her in.
And just as he shut the book and laid it on her nightstand, he opened her eyes and looked at Tyler.
“Do you love Momma?”
Tyler felt his cheeks heat. “Get some sleep. You’ve got a big day tomorrow.”
“But do you love her? Like in the stories?”
Tyler looked at his daughter. “What’s got you so interested all of a sudden?”
“Lily told me what soulmates means.”
“Did she now?”
Skye nodded. “That’s you and Momma.”
“Skye-”
“Do you love her?”
Looking at Skye, Tyler felt his heart tug inside of his chest. He couldn’t lie to her.
“More than she’ll ever know. More than I’ll ever be able to tell her.” Tyler admitted, unaware of the presence just outside the door.
“I think you should tell her.”
The corner of Tyler’s mouth curved into a smile. “Do you now?”
Yawning, Skye nodded. But then Tyler sighed. “It’s not that simple, honey.”
“But what if she floats away like Mary?”
Tyler’s brows furrowed. “Mary?”
“Poppins. Burt never got to tell her he loved her.”
Tyler chuckled. “Skye, your mom isn’t going to float away. Now, close your eyes and get some sleep.”
Leaning over, Tyler kissed the top of her head. “Goodnight, my Tiny Tornado.”
Then he flicked the lamp off; only Skye wasn’t finished.
“If you love her, you should tell her.”
In the moonlight darkness, Tyler saw the look his daughter was giving him. She was pleading with him.
And if a four year old could see it and say it…
He leaned back down and kissed her head. “Go to sleep. We’ll see you in the morning. I love you.”
Skye yawned. “I love you, too. Goodnight, daddy.”
It wasn’t the first time Skye had called him that. Usually it happened in moments like this, where she was really tired and already half awake and half asleep. But it made his heart soar out of his chest all the same.
Quietly leaving the room, he closed the door behind him and waited there for a moment. The lights were off around most of the house since everyone had gone to bed once Skye had said she was.
But one light was still on.
And he knew who it belonged to.
Walking down the hallway, Tyler waited by the edge of the hallway for a moment, just watching you fold some more fresh laundry whilst he prepared what he was going to say.
“Hey.”
That seemed like a good start.
You looked up, a little startled. “Hey. She asleep?”
Tyler nodded and walked further into the living room before taking a seat on the arm of the chair, pulling a few items from the laundry pile to fold.
A slightly awkward silence settled over you both for a moment.
“Listen, about this morning-”
“She was right.” Tyler said, looking at you. “Skye was right. This morning, she was right. With everything that she said.”
“Tyler-”
He stood up. “No, just. Just wait. Please. Let…let me get this out? And then if you want me to leave and never talk about it again, I will.” You couldn’t speak so you just nodded and listened as he continued. “Skye was right. I am in love with you. I have always been in love with you. I think I always will be. I know there’s a lot to consider; work, home and, most importantly, Skye. But if…” Tyler took a breath. “If there’s any part of you that feels the same…I think we should do something about it.”
“Finally taking our daughter’s advice?”
Tyler was shocked but a small smile came to your face. “I wasn’t spying or anything. I was walking down the hall and I heard Skye and…thinking about it, maybe I was spying.”
Tyler chuckled.
“But you’re right.” You told him. “You’re both right. I don’t know when my feelings changed for you, but I know what I feel today, what I feel when I see you with Skye, and what I feel when you look at me. I’m in love with you, too, Tyler.”
“You are?” You nodded. “You’re not just saying-”
You shook your head. “I’m saying it because it’s the truth.”
So, standing in the middle of the dimly lit living room, you and Tyler looked at each other. One of his hands in yours, your other resting on his wrist as he pushed his hand under your hair to cup your cheek.
“Kiss her.”
The small and familiar voice made both of you and Tyler turn to look at the corridor. Skye stood, trying her best to hide, behind the lamp and the table it sat on.
Tyler looked back at you with a smile which you both shared.
“Can’t go against orders, can we?”
You shook your head. “No, we can’t.”
Finally feeling him kiss you was like a thousand dreams were shattering, only to be replaced with the fact that the reality of Tyler was much better than the fantasy you’d granted yourself.
And, as it turned out, having you and Tyler finally grant yourselves permission to be open about your feelings for one another didn’t change much in terms of routine, save for a few more morning kisses before breakfast and quick pecks to the lips or cheek throughout the day when passing each other.
It was definitely no surprise how Skye had come to the conclusion that you and Tyler were in love before you’d both admitted it to yourselves.
Killed The Cowboy
The crew wanted to know about Tyler rodeo days and this was one of his favorite stories to tell from those days
Everybody wanna know where did all the cowboys go?
Musta been the whiskey, maybe it was all the Marlboros
But it ain't none of that, that laid 'em all low
Yeah, believe me I know
It was the bar, and she walked in boots, jeans, and a t-shirt. Her hair was curled, and Tyler saw her walk in to the bar, he was nursing whiskey, he had in front him of him. Tyler couldn’t take his eyes off of her, he watched her lean against bar before there eyes met
It was that midnight stare
Look in her eyes like a knife to the heart
She walked over to him and sat down “So what a cowboy like doing here?” She questioned him “Deciding what to do next.” He said looking at her “What’s that?” She asked resting against her hand “Can’t bull ride anymore, I’m think college.” He shrugged, “What happened?” She questioned him “Got my head stomped a few to many times.” He laughed, “I think college is a great idea.” She smiled at him, they sat and talked about stuff, they left the bar and went to Tyler’s truck he pushed her up against it and they started kissing
It was that poison kiss
Cherry red lips, oh my God, leaning up against the bar
And I know it wasn't the smoke, it wasn't the drink
And I've got the proof
If you wanna know what killed the cowboy
A girl like you (a girl like you)
“Let’s get out of here.” She whispered in his ear, they got into Tyler’s and he drove. Until they got to little house, they walked and we’re back on each other again, they moved towards Tyler’s bedroom kissing and clothes getting taken off, as they went down the hall. Tyler and her both fought for the top until she was on top riding him
Mm, the way she does it wasn't just another rodeo
Lipstick kiss on the mirror, that was all she wrote
Yeah, it's supposed to be me riding away
But I'm dying in a bed that she made
The next morning when Tyler woke up she was gone. He was in a mess of sheets, he walked into the his bathroom and saw a lipstick kiss, he smiled at it and thought back to the night before, he thought the guy was supposed to ride away, or at least that’s what he thought cowboys were supposed to do, he didn’t think the girl would ride away. That’s what killed the Cowboy in him kinda, it’s why he went to college, got a degree in meteorology, and then he found out who her parents are years later…
Well, she's off in the sunset, she's out on the run
Bet she's halfway to Jackson by now
And I'm heartbroke to hell and I'm drowning the well
While I'm telling the bartender how
Tyler finished his story leaving out the intimate details of that night “So that why you went to college?” Kate questioned “Did you ever meet her again?” Javi questioned “Nope, have no idea where she is.” Tyler said “So that’s what killed the cowboy?” Dani questioned him “Yep, it wasn’t the smoke or the drink.” He said laughing “It was girl like her.”
It was that midnight stare
Look in her eyes like a knife to the heart
And it was that poison kiss
Cherry red lips, oh my God, leaning up against the bar
And I know it wasn't the smoke, it wasn't the drink
And I've got the proof
If you wanna know what killed the cowboy
A girl like you (a girl like you)
SYMPHONY — Boone [October Prompts] 🧡
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/N: Taking another stab at writing this thing for Boone baby during this spooky season! Hope y’all like it.
PROMPTS ARE FROM HERE & I’m using: 19. You’re stuck in the house of mirrors + 20. 7 minutes in heaven but make it Halloween.
WARNINGS: I dabble in a little bit of explicit content somewhere in here but it’s not my specialty so don’t go too crazy lol + language, & mentions of characters being under the influence just a smidge!
⋆。‧₊°♱༺𓆩❦︎𓆪༻♱༉‧₊˚. ⋆。‧₊°♱༺𓆩❦︎𓆪༻♱༉‧₊˚. ⋆。‧
The fireflies and the cicadas were live in Arkansas even when the carnival was forty-five minutes away from shutting down for the night. The wranglers all branched from drunk off their asses, engaged in some special green, or comfortably buzzed but it was Lily who suggested they play this last minute game.
They used Boone’s fireworks (of course he bought more) with their hands holding onto the end and rested their foreheads above as they spun around. Yeah it wasn’t the smartest thing but you work with what you got! Once they were done spinning around at least five times, the player had to cover their eyes with their hand and point somewhere along the circle. Whoever their aim landed on, that was their target to spend seven minutes with.
You were the last to go, knuckles whacking the side of someone’s face unintentionally.
“Ow!”
That sure sounded a whole lot like Boone.
So when you opened your eyes, you confirmed what you had thought as he now held onto your hand (to stop any further assault) while rubbing his cheek with the other followed by a pout.
“Booone! Booone! Booone!” Tyler started chanting while clapping his hands and slapping his knees, slowly getting the rest to join in.
Kate just shook her head but still sent a lazy smile your way.
“Alright, alright.” Boone interrupted, “where are you sending us?”
That’s when the group of friends all spun around looking for an attraction that had little to none or some type of action going on. Javi ended up being the first one to announce, “I vote: House of mirrors for the lovers!”
Smirking to yourself, Boone immediately shakes his head, “I don’t know where you came up with that—
Javi raised his brows, ready to challenge that but Kate flings her own spread out knuckles back against the curly haired man’s mouth, stopping him from saying any more.
“You really don’t want him to answer that, do you?” Dani quizzed as she held onto her heineken bottle, while glancing back and forth between you two.
Awkwardly Boone rubs at the back of his neck while you’ve already moved in the direction of the supposed haunted attraction unfazed at what they were all hinting at. You’re swinging your hands back and forth now walking backwards.
“Who’s starting the timer and what are we doin’?” You ask as everyone starts to follow you towards where an employee stood outside, hanging along the banister texting away on his phone, appearing very bored and over his shift.
Kate and Tyler stand in the middle on the dirt, where the rest of the wranglers lined up on either side of them. That left you and Boone to start making your way up the maze of the ADA aluminum ramp.
The two blondes gazed at each other and then at the rest of the tornado wranglers who all grinned at each other. Lily and Boone were initially the ones who were vlogging this entire outing, with Boone having the headgear since he tended to be all over the place, shout-out ADHD! and Lily decided to go with a camcorder for this particular outing, which means it’ll be just as much as a blast editing as they were all experiencing it. Tyler loved going to all of the fairs, festivals, and carnivals that Arkansas had and he was even more thrilled to have Kate be part of it.
Boone was his best friend and all Tyler wanted was for him to find another piece of happiness. He thought that could be you and although the first time you and Boone hooked up, which may have been casual at the start, Tyler (along with the rest of the wranglers) had a feeling it could be something more. Although Boone tried to deny it, it was pretty obvious with the twinkle in his eye whenever he was caught looking at you when you did tag along or felt dejected whenever you flirted away with random people at gas stations and diner’s.
Tyler didn’t even think you did it deliberately.
He knew a thing or two about charisma but he also got to know you. Tyler felt if you knew about Boone’s true feelings for you, you wouldn’t flirt with anybody else but him. So this is why sending just you two off into the house of mirrors was the perfect plan.
Supposedly.
“As you know, you both will have seven minutes,” Kate starts while the both of you nod, “To get through the maze—
Lily mutters with a exaggerated groan while fake stretching, “Or each other.”
Which earns snickers from Dani and Javi.
Boone sends them both a middle finger.
“What you do within that time is completely your business,” Tyler adds with his own laughter lines showing on his face, “Just as long as you make it out before then. If not—
“You’re gonna pay the employee to lock us in for the night or something?” You predict, while Boone widens his eyes to look over at you.
The group of tornado wranglers all glance at each other while Boone pinches the space in between his brows, just grumbling, “Don’t get any ideas…don’t get any ideas…”
“Actually that’s not bad.” Dani says after sipping at the last of her beer, “Give it up for y/n for the bright ideas!”
They all give you a round of applause while you mockingly bow and curtsy.
“No,” Kate reassures Boone, “We’ll think of something…else.”
“Alright love birds!” Tyler begins as you start leading the way up the ramp, leaving you to shake your head and for Boone to give his best friend a mean side eye, after tossing Tyler the camera around his head off to place a trucker hat on instead, “Time starts as soon as the kind gentleman lets you two disappear from our sight. Boone, you set your own timer alright?”
“Yeah sure, dad.” Boone responds dryly but clicks his tongue and points at the older man in amusement, after getting higher up on the ramp.
The employee continues waving you two to the main entrance; where there’s music that sounds like a strange tune full of a creepy organ instrumental being played.
“Good luck you two!” Lily calls out.
You glance over your shoulder, sending a wink to the locked up haired girl, “We won’t need it.”
Which makes Lily raise one hand in surrender and step back with the camcorder aimed at you two while the rest let out a chorus of, “oooo’s.”
You reach back for Boone’s hand intertwining your fingers as you turn to the right, being welcomed with a gush of cool air before disappearing behind the velvet drapes.
“Seven minutes starts now.” Boone informs surpringly quiet, after setting the timer on his phone before shoving it back into his cargo shorts pocket.
You don’t let go of his hand replying, “Uh huh. Not much of a challenge for me though.”
“Speak for yourself.” Boone mutters as he glanced at his reflection to his right.
The lights flickered from white to Antarctic blue as you lead the way, your free hand feeling for the glass but moving at a speed that feels faster than normal to Boone.
“Don’t tell me you don’t like a little maze?”
“You know I got left in a maze once,” Boone tells, “A cornfield maze. Of course I found my way out but much later than everyone else and got chased by the headless horseman. Nearly lost my own freakin’ head too!”
You kept your laughter at bay, stopping to turn and cradle Boone’s face, “Don’t worry Boonie Babe, I won’t leave you.”
“Even if Dracula or Frankenstein decides to jump through one of the mirrors?” He asks, trying to keep his eyes on yours instead of your lips and your surroundings.
You peek up at the ceiling, which is also covered in glass, “Frankenstein might be a problem for me.”
“That guy really?”
“Oh there’s no fear in my heart when it comes to him. I’m just saying that I might be able to snatch him from his bride.” You sigh dramatically while Boone blinks, not expecting you to have a crush on that vintage horror icon but then again there was a quote on your spine that he still was trying to figure out.
Boone decides to toss in, “Wouldn’t need to take him from his bride, when you could just be mine instead?”
Is this what the kids call rizz?
“Oh, is that so?” You tilt your head to the side, your devil horns slide a bit from the cap that covered your hair.
Boone reaches up to fix them for you, “Yup, and I know what I’m being for Halloween now instead of cousin IT. Let’s go.”
With that he takes charge, tugging you along through the mirrors with quick strides but that was short lived as he walked face first into the mirror, that you tried to warn him of but just a little too late. The both of you tumble back onto the ground, with a groan and Boone holding onto his nose.
“Awl shit, is it bleedin’?” He asks, scrambling to get off you since you took the brunt of it.
You sit up with a wince and reach out to lift his chin, “No you’re good.”
“Never mind that, did I hurt you?”
“Course not. This ain’t my first tussle you know?” You tease.
Boone licks his bottom lip, “…How can I forget?”
Laughing a little you grip his sturdy shoulders, using them as leverage to get back on your feet. Boone’s hands go to your hips, peering up at you like the goddess you are. He even ran his tongue along his lip again, getting a view of your thigh tat that wrapped around your flesh.
“How much time left do we have?” You query, feeling the change in the air.
Boone lifts his shoulders, “Don’t matter,” before pulling you close. His chin rests against your stomach for a moment and as you caress his face, you squat down until you’re seated in his lap, “that’s better.”
“I bet it is,” you laugh with your arms over his shoulders and his muscular arms wrapped tightly across your back.
When you take your horns from your hat to rest beside you two, you also turn your hat backwards, which makes Boone moan at the sight of you now. And you have no problem tasting that moan as you place your lips right on his. Boone doesn’t waste any time slipping his tongue into your mouth after you turn the kiss into an open mouthed one.
“I know we don’t have much time,” you breathe breaking away as Boone leaves scratchy open mouthed kisses along your neck, taking in the aroma of you, “But I think I miss you just as much as you missed me.”
Your hands work to loosen his belt just so you can manauver your hand inside. He grunts once you’ve gotten a hold on him, finger circling the sticky that’s right at the tip. “Oh yeah, you’ve missed me real bad, Boonie babe.”
“Yeah, you get the idea, don’t you? It’s just right there in your hand, sweetheart.” His head rests back against the mirror as you bury your face into his neck, and he doesn’t hesistate to give you more access looking towards the pathway of mirrors instead.
He didn’t even care if the rest of employees got a show right now. Boone just needed and wanted you bad. So he manages to grip your wrist from moving any further, gaining your attention. “I think I can put my guy to better use, don’t you?”
“Not with the time we have left…” you slowly peck his lips.
He’s fully unbuttoning his shorts, lifting his hips just enough to free himself and that he did, “Fuck it.”
You have to stand again to lower your own but Boone stops you as you get to your festive panties, “Keep ‘em on, they’re no bother.”
Sitting once more with your legs locked around Boone, his finger trailed against the pattern of the bats at the center. Boone’s always known that they were your favorite animal with you once referring to them as, “Pups with wings,” so he shouldn’t be surprised that you had a pair on for him to enjoy too.
“Boone,” you warn as he trailing his finger agonizing around and around slowly, “No teasing.”
“You think it’s fair that’s what you’ve been doin’ to me all this time?” He sharply looks at you underneath his eyelashes, “When you should know I’d do just about anything to have you all the time?”
“What?” You breathe, feeling the cool air of the maze much lower now that he moved your orange panties to the side.
Angling himself just right, you welcome him in, doubling over with a moan as your hand slams against the glass to hold onto now that you’re one.
“Just for now, baby.” He shushed you, burying his bruised nose against your shoulder, “Want you to feel all of me and what more I can give.”
“Boone.” You hiss, once you’re able to lean back and meet his brown eyes, “I cant—We can’t.”
Being like this would be torture, you knew it.
He rests the pad of his thumb against your mouth, “Don’t show your fears, feel ‘em with open arms.”
With a roll of your eyes, you think this is new. Not the whole underling meaning to what this was but more so Boone pulling this. Normally it was always about action but this was different. Time-consuming. Meaningful. You’d like to think it over some more later but Boone was making this oh so difficult, stretching you so nice and letting it soak was almost evil.
And not once did you ever think Boone was that.
Just taking all of him with no intentions of finding more, which you knew he could. You had to give him credit, this was intense and you knew Boone meant it with the way he stared into your eyes and massaged your thighs. Your mind was in overload and you knew you could move if you truly wanted but you were always up for a challenge. Lightly bumping noses, you lower your lips to nip his bottom one before kissing him once more with a sigh.
The way you always felt against Boone was a gift within itself. He wanted you to know that if you just gave him a chance, for real this time that he would give you more than just his body. But for right now, this was the type of intimacy he was offering. With the potential of everlasting passion. That’s right, Boone could be much more than what was on the surface and he couldn’t hide it much when he was around you. Sure he could blame it on the whiskey and shared joint with Lily but he wouldn’t, Boone knew how he felt about you beyond the high.
And he was going to show you as soon as possible.
Those thoughts are interrupted as the rattling of glass is heard and it’s not by either of your doing.
You pull your lips from his, looking to your left from the path in which you two came.
“Hello—
Boone starts but you slap your hands over his mouth, sharply turning to look at his widened eyes, “Have you not seen any scary movies? You never greet the dark.” You whisper to him, taking a deep inhale.
Deciding that it was best to ease yourself from Boone, who misses your warmth already you’re on your feet, but not without shifting your view from the ground to grab your shorts and that rattling path to the side of you.
“Guess play time is over,” Boone muttered while beginning to fix himself as well.
Instead of the usual flicking of lights, you’re both engulfed in complete darkness for a good ten seconds. The haunting music is still playing and as you both listened carefully, gaze lifting to the ceiling at the whistling of wind, that actually starts to shake the building.
“Whoa! This don’t feel right.” Boone comments.
With a nod you step to go back the way you came but what happens next feels like slow motion. The glass above your head comes crashing down, making you both crouch to shield your faces from the material while the house of mirror shuts down, going completely quiet.
“Boone?” You call out once you feel the coast is clear, until a sickening creak begins to cave the attraction inwards.
His hands find yours in the dark, “I got you!” He calls over the noise, “We got to get movin’! See if we can find the exit.”
Shaking the glass from each other, you get to your feet, both searching your pockets for the flashlight on your phones.
“Tornado?” You question.
Boone shined his light over your frame to make sure you weren’t hurt before answering, “Maybe or a hurricane at least? Let’s move.”
He leads the way this time and it isn’t anymore comforting now with the lights out. He can hear you clacking away on your phone trying to text and call the rest of the tornado wranglers…but of course there’s suddenly no service.
“Watch it!” You say just in time as something falls on top of the ceiling from the outside, raining more glass over what would have been on Boone’s head.
He puffs out a breath, “Thanks.” He says over his shoulder while you just nod, “Looks like we’re gonna have to crawl through now. Hope you’re not claustrophobic?”
“Nooo,” you blow out a raspberry.
Boone gives you an expressionless look. The twist of your bottom lip and you lightly biting down on the corner was a dead giveaway.
“You want to hold my hand?”
“I would…but how is that going to work with your ass in my face? It’s not like there’s enough room to crab walk side by side?”
He decides against making a crude joke as he feels a spike of anxiety radiating off of you now.
Boone grips your shoulders, “You won’t leave me remember? So I won’t let go of you, alright?”
“Alright.” You trust him with a dip of your head, as Boone grabs a hold of your hand again to place a scratchy kiss along your fingertips.
Crawling through the dark of a house full of mirrors was not exactly on your bucket list. Sure you were a rough around the edges kind of girl, just like the rest of the tornado wranglers, who liked adventure every now and then but in a way you were more like Dani and Dexter who focused on the mechanics. You wished you were like Dexter in this moment and chose to stay home but then again, would this night have played out any differently for Boone? You loved riding in your truck, tailgating, and shooting your shotty but chasing storms wasn’t what you did for a living.
Being a Forest and Conservation Tech was more your speed but when Dani found you through Tiktok, she somehow felt you would be good on the team. It was a part time thing to be honest, Tyler couldn’t fully ring you in and he was never one to be overbearing but he saw something in you as well.
It felt like all of them did, including Boone.
You were hardly one to vocally doubt yourself but everyone had some type of flaw in them.
That’s called being human.
Yours so happened to be wishing you were in a forest right now instead of having whiskey in your veins and stuck in a house of mirrors with a guy that you were open to exploring more with.
“No freaking way!” Boone says after his third kick to the exit door, that the both of you had to stomp over glass to get to.
Sighing you finally state with a hint of sarcasm, “Are you ready to admit that we’re going to spend longer than seven minutes in here?”
“Har-Har!” Boone mumbled yanking his cap off to clip along his waistband to tie one of his signature bandanas over his dark hair instead, “I guess!”
Standing up again you point, “Let’s see if we can find a final room as shelter.”
“A what?”
You nudge your head after handing him back his phone.
After another somewhat lengthy loop trying to find said final room and flinching every time it felt like the attraction could split you two in half at any moment, you’re led to the room that shined light from its main mirror with a coffin held open in front of it.
“The hell is this?” Boone questions, “Are we supposed to climb into that?”
There’s a sickening creaking that can be heard in the distance, making Boone shine his flashlight from left to right while you put yours away to save some battery for when you did get service again.
Whipping around you kiss Boone’s lips again and he almost melts but still keeps a sturdy arm around your waist. When you break away you say, “If we don’t make it—
“Nope!” Boone yelps, “Say it to my face when we’re both sober and not going through whatever this is.”
There’s no sound of a loud horn that the both of you can pick up on, but you’re also unaware of how deep you’re in the house. The both of you couldn’t pinpoint what exactly was happening but you wanted to put it out there just in case.
He exhales, latching onto your hand and cautiously moving towards the open coffin. Boone peers back at you and with one eye closed, he peeks into the coffin to find it…empty.
“Okay…no signs of Dracula! We’re good to go, just like a bathtub I suppose.” He climbs up first, sitting down before holding his arms out for you.
Swallowing at how disturbing this is, you look around the almost empty room one last time before taking Boone’s hand and also climbing in and resting on your side while Boone turned to face you as well.
“I didn’t expect this to be so roomy.” You whisper as you look up into the dark.
Boone snorts, “Kinda romantic huh?”
“If you say so.”
“All we’re missing are the dead roses.”
“You can stop talking now.”
“I’m nervous, sorry.”
“…we can finish what we started in the hallway?” You tease.
He perks up, “Oh really? In here? Should we close the top?”
“No Boone! Just hold my hands and pray for this to pass quickly.”
Boone caressed your cheek before leaning forward to kiss you, “Man, I can absolutely do that for you, sweetheart.”
The pressure and creaking gets too much to bear, even with you holding on tightly to Boone’s hands, you let go to embrace him instead. The both of you bury yourselves into each other’s shoulders and hold on as best as you could in the house of mirrors.
The rapid beating of each other’s hearts were felt each other’s frames the tighter you held onto each other and that was the greatest symphony to provide peace to you two while you weathered the storm.
Baby Boone - Part One
You sat quietly in the back seat of Tyler's truck, watching crop fields and weathered barns flicker past the window, blurring together like a box of crayons left out in the sun too long. It was early April, and the air was becoming humid as Tornado season rapidly approached, leaving your skin glistening with a thin sheen of sweat that made everything feel sticky and hot.
You exhaled deeply, the cool metal of your laptop rested across your exposed knees running a weather program Lily had downloaded for you that tracked wind shear anomalies across America. Their whole operation was very technical you'd come to discover, despite their hillbilly cowboy personas they ever so slightly leaned into for the camera’s.
Just a week and a half ago, you’d been sitting with the very same laptop open on your dorm room bed, staring blankly at a withdrawal form that confirmed you were no longer enrolled in your classes. Not an easy decision to make three years deep into a degree. Nevertheless, chasing dangerous tornados with your brother seemed more appealing than facing the disappointment etched into your parent's faces. And so now you were spending your days staring at synoptic charts, and your nights drinking lukewarm beers and crashing in rundown motels.
“And we’re live!” Boone, your brother, announced enthusiastically. Lifting up the camera to capture Tyler as he drove. “Say hi to the stream, T!” Your brother really was his biggest fan and best friend rolled into one. More than once you’d joked that Boone could give Tyler’s fangirls a run for their money.
You tried to focus on the data, scanning for anything unusual like Lily had shown you when she'd first downloaded the program for you. A little overwhelmed, you fixated on the wind speed, noting how quickly it had spiked as you approached the cell they'd been tracking the majority of the afternoon.
You swallowed, grappling with the sharp turn your life had taken —swapping frat parties and 9 a.m. lectures for storm chasing and pre-dawn wake-up calls. You had no idea what you were doing, or what was next. But maybe that was the exciting part. Restlessly, your fingers tapped on the edge of the laptop, fidgeting to try and calm your nerves.
"And today, we're joined by the gorgeous Lily," Boone's voice caught your attention as he angled the camera between the seats to catch her wave, "And our special guest. A first-time chaser, and my baby sister-"
"Baby Boone!" Lily interjected with a laugh, using the silly nickname she'd christened you with a few days ago when you first met. Leaning into the frame and smiling wildly, her face inches from yours.
Lily was probably the most easy-going person you'd ever met, both unbelievably friendly and fiercely loyal, exactly the kind of person you'd want to have in your corner. Unless you were on the receiving end of her teasing.
Your cheeks warmed as you looked up, wiping the back of your hand across your forehead, and meeting her gaze with a raised brow, as if to say really?
She'd taken to calling you that the second she met you, gushing over your small frame and your dark, unruly hair, which was almost identical to Boone's, only longer. There was no denying you were siblings. And so 'Baby Boone' had been born.
As expected, protesting her remark only made Lily's grin impossibly wider, "Oh, come on. It suits you!" she jested, lightly slapping your arm and staring back at you with a smirk.
Boone snorted at her retort, shifting the camera to focus more on you, "Say hi to the stream, Baby Boone." He teased putting emphasis on the nickname, the light from his phone reflecting his amused expression. You'd spent enough time with your brother to know he was relishing every second of teasing you on camera.
Offering up a sheepish wave to the audience, you eyed Boone with a facetious scowl on your face and extended your middle finger to him sarcastically. The livestream’s chat exploded with messages, and though you couldn't see them, Boones' laughter made it clear they were loving the sibling rivalry.
"What, she the team mascot now?" Tyler smirked from the front seat, eyes still focused on the road but not missing an opportunity to join in on the teasing. “Maybe Baby Boone can get her face on a t-shirt if she's lucky.” He winked playfully as your cheeks warmed once more.
His teasing made your stomach somersault, something about his ruggedness paired with his dazzling smile had the hairs on your neck pricking up, unconsciously praying for his attention. Though you'd never admit that aloud, to yourself or to anyone. Especially not Boone.
“Can we not make this a thing?” you protested, half-laughing, half-groaning.
“Too late,” Boone retorted, sticking his tongue out for effect. “The chat loves it. Look, someone just said, ‘We stan Baby Boone.’” He nodded towards his phone screen, which displayed all the incoming messages from viewers.
“That’s not even—” you stopped mid-sentence, catching Tyler’s smirk in the rearview mirror. “Wait, are you all in on this?” You glanced between the three of them urgently, trust Boone to put them up to this.
“Define ‘in,’” Tyler replied, his tone casual. Holding your gaze for a second in the rearview mirror.
“You’re all the worst,” you huffed, but your tone lacked heat. Lily’s laugh was contagious, and even Boone’s teasing couldn’t ruin the laughter escaping you. For now, the approaching storm outside seemed a little less intimidating than before, the tension broken by everyone’s laughter.
"Baby Boone. Hilarious." you muttered shaking your head, your smile tight as you glanced down at the laptop, hoping to steer the focus away from the nickname. It wasn’t that you minded the teasing—it was just… well, you were trying to distance yourself from being just Boone’s little sister. A subtle sigh escaped as you silently hoped they’d let you slip back into the background for a bit.
When Boone twisted away from you, your shoulders slumped slightly, and you let your gaze return to the screen, the numbers blurring together as you tried to focus. Your brother might thrive on chaos, but you were still figuring out how to stay calm in it. This adrenaline rush was new and exciting—but also terrifying, especially for a first-time chaser.
As the laughter faded and the camera shifted back to Tyler and the chase, something in the air seemed to change—like the calm before the storm. The wind speeds were dropping, and you felt very out of your depth, a sense of unease crept up your spine and settled in your tensed muscles.
Through narrowed eyes, you watched your laptop, mentally taking note of the way the colours danced across the screen, a deep red shape forming right where you were headed. The data at the side was going crazy, flickering between the windspeed and the rotational motion in the atmosphere. All factors that Lily had explained in far less academic terms to you last week.
"Uh, Lily?" you said, nudging her. "The wind speeds are dropping. Like, a lot." Even you knew that wasn’t right.
She leaned over, frowning as she scanned the data. "That's... strange." Her voice trailed off, eyes flicking between the screen and the horizon.
You followed her gaze, searching for signs of trouble as if you had the first clue of what to look out for. The clouds gathered together quickly, but nothing seemed to scream danger yet - maybe a light drizzle of rain if you squinted hard enough. Still, the unease in Lily's expression made your pulse quicken.
Lily’s fingers flew across her tablet, brows furrowed and frown deepening. “The data isn’t lining up.”
Your head swivelled in her direction, eyes squinting at her screen, trying to see what she was seeing. “What does that mean?” you asked apprehensively. As much as you had no clue about storms or the technical stuff your brother got up to, even you could work out that didn't sound good. Just typical this would happen the first time you chase with them, maybe you were just a bad luck charm.
“Means the storm’s shifting course,” she muttered, not looking away from the tablet. Her voice was calm and focused as if this was just another day at the office. But then again, it probably was for her. “And we’re headed right towards it.”
Boone leaned forward and thumped his hand against the dash, "Hell yeah!" His grin widened in a way that made you want to scream, like being in the path of a fucking tornado was the best thing he'd heard all week. Then again, knowing Boone it probably was.
Timidly, you dared to ask what you'd been wondering, "How far away is it?" You wanted to be prepared for things getting chaotic, you'd watched enough of their streams to know how quickly things could ramp up. It was quite literally a matter of life and death sometimes.
“Eh, five minutes,” Tyler said thoughtfully his tone matter-of-fact and cool as always. Unbothered by Lily's updates, as if he already knew what was happening based on sheer experience. You noted how his knuckles tightened their grip on the steering wheel. “Give or take a few minutes.”
You looked up at his face, noticing the subtle shift in his demeanour, but he still seemed unbothered and focused. You, on the other hand, felt your chest tighten, the anxiety creeping in despite your trust in their judgment. The numbers on your screen climbed higher and higher, and your stomach churned in response. From the scale you had to compare the data to, you were only looking at an EF1, which was nothing compared to the storms you knew they'd chased before. That and Tyler's warm calmness stilled your nerves.
“Shouldn’t we turn around?” you asked, your voice betraying the unease you were trying to hide. You hated how scared you sounded, especially in front of Boone, Tyler, and the hundreds of viewers watching. "I mean... If we're in its path?" You looked to Tyler for guidance, something about him settled any and all fears just with one look.
Tyler hesitated, glancing at Boone before answering, “Well. If we turn now, we'll miss it completely Baby B.”
“And if we don’t?” you pressed, carried away with the thoughts that were plaguing your mind. Though Tyler never answered, too focused on driving them as close as possible. You could feel your heart beginning to thump in your chest, looking between the three of them for an answer.
Lily shot you a look, her jaw tightening “We’re not missing it." she said, eyes soft with sympathy at your tone, "We’re in its path.”
As if to punctuate her words, the sky darkened, and a sudden roar of wind engulfed the truck. The first drops of rain splattered against the windshield, quickly turning into a torrential downpour. Your hands instinctively went to your seatbelt, pulling it tighter as if it would do anything to protect you against the worst.
"In its path?" you repeated, looking at Lily like a deer caught in headlights. "You're joking, right? This is some kind of initiation thing?" you pushed yourself back into your seat, hoping it would somehow make you less on edge. Any rationalities about it being an EF1 were out the window now you learned you were going to drive into this thing.
"Relax," Boone reassured, "We're equipped to deal with this remember?" His hand pulled lazily at the harnesses built into the seats, jangling it a little to jog your memory.
Despite your brother's reassurance and Tyler and Lily's supportive nods, you couldn't help but assume the worst, perhaps you were being dramatic by picturing the windows shattering and one of you being sucked from the vehicle, but you were inexperienced and nervous as hell so you couldn't control it. As if the forming storm could read your thoughts, the hail kicked in, battering the truck with heavy pelts that echoed in your ears.
You clung to your seatbelt, wide-eyed and watching in horror as Tyler manoeuvred closer to what you could now see was a thin dark funnel forming in the sky. You swallowed hoarsely, nervously waiting for the worst to happen, for the winds to snatch the truck up and send you all spiralling into oblivion. That would be just your luck right there.
"Boone," You said voice tight and apprehensive. Though he was too absorbed in filming to offer you full reassurance, he glanced back over his shoulder a grin tugging at the corner of his lips, as if to silently tell you everything would be fine. You knew it would be, but you couldn't stop that worst-case scenario thinking that was bouncing around your skull like a pingpong ball.
The truck rocked as wind and hail lashed against it. The laptop highlighted the rising wind speed, which had now climbed past 100mph setting off a tight wave of unease in your chest. You were preparing for the worst, feeling the adrenaline which rushed through your veins. Some life experience this was - Boone getting you killed before your parents could for agreeing to tag along with your wayward brother in the first place.
The truck shuddered again, the wind rattling against its frame like it was a tin can, threatening to overturn the vehicle at any moment. Your hand clutched into a fist, nails digging into your palm leaving little crescent moon-shaped indents in your skin. Trying anything to take your mind off the unsavoury thoughts that rattled around it.
You could see Boone twisting round every few moments, eyes gazing back at you just to check you were still breathing - he knew what you could be like under stress. Though you didn't dare meet his eyes. You didn't want to appear frightened, even if you were, because you knew how over-protective he could be when it came to you. And you certainly didn't want Lily or Tyler to see that side of him, you'd never hear the end of it.
"Harnesses on people," Tyler instructed calmly, the truck coming to a stop. The rain and hail was still pounding down but Tyler didn't seem worried, which eased the knot in your stomach - he was a professional tornado wrangler after all.
Reaching over your shoulder you grasped the fabric of the straps, fumbling slightly to pull your arms through, just how Boone had shown you earlier. Stealing a glance at your brother, you watched as he adjusted his own like it was second nature to him. Lily too had pulled her's on with ease, returning to her tablet a second later. You felt your heart racing as you fought to untwist it.
Your hands trembled slightly as you struggled to snap the harness into place, acutely aware of the way Boone was staring. "I got it." you muttered, more to yourself than to your brother. Despite failing the first time to get it to click together, you repositioned to try again. But before you could, Boone had already reached over to connect the straps together, a resounding click echoing through the truck as he did.
"You're good." he said, shooting you a quick wink and turning back around.
You could feel your cheeks flush with a mix of irritation and embarrassment. It wasn’t that you didn’t trust Boone—it was just that you didn’t want him to do it at all. Your heart thudded harder in your chest, but it wasn’t from the storm. It was the way he always stepped in to protect you, like you were still a kid. His hands were steady, but you couldn’t decide if it was comforting or patronizing. You knew he wasn’t trying to undermine you, but sometimes it felt like he still saw you as the little girl who used to sneak into his room at night after a bad dream.
Despite the heat rising in your cheeks, your attention was pulled back to the storm. The sharp scent of rain hit your senses, a reminder of where you were—right in the path of a tornado. You felt like a sitting duck, watching as the dark funnel began to form more clearly ahead.
"Hang on tight ladies and gentlemen," Tyler called eagerly as he pressed a button on the console of the truck. A low whirring sound vibrated throughout the truck as the anchors penetrated the dirt underneath you, grounding you all in place. You prayed they would hold. "She's getting close!"
You almost forgot about the livestream, glancing up at the camera mounted on the dashboard filming the approaching storm, too busy fearing for your life. But now you were beginning to understand why they did this, the adrenaline rush was like nothing you'd felt before. No wonder Boone never looked back after first chasing with Tyler nearly four years ago.
"Goddamn..." Your mouth fell open, staring through the windscreen at the sight in front of you, forgetting any frustration or embarrassment you'd felt two minutes prior. You felt yourself beginning to smile leaning forward as much as you could to get a better view between the headrests, encouraged by Boone and Tyler who glanced back at you, both laden with excitement as they watched your reaction.
"Hell yeah, baby!" Boone whooped, encouraging Tyler and Lily to cheer as the tornado began to head in the truck's direction. You took a deep breath, watching in amazement as it began to twist closer to the truck.
The dirt in its path began to sweep up into the air, scattering across the trucks windshield and frame with tiny pitter patters that could barely be heard over the winds howling. It was mesmerising, unlike anything you'd ever seen before. The debris acting like tiny puppets on a string orchestrated by the tornado, guiding them up into the air and swirling like dancers fluttering through the sky.
"Holy fuckin' shit." You murmured in awe, barely aware of the laughter bubbling up from the rest of them. It was unlike anything you’d ever seen, and as the tornado began to engulf the truck, the thrill of it shot through your veins. The deafening roar of the winds rattled the truck, but you couldn’t tear your eyes away from the glass, from the dance.
You stared through the window, the swirling grey mist swallowing everything just meters away. Every instinct screamed to get out and start running but you knew better than that, and so you stayed firmly pressed to your seat observing in awe. Your harness was tight against your chest, and you were grateful you still wore your seatbelt as you were certain without them you would've collapsed then and there from the excitement.
The silence that followed the first roar was almost deafening. You could make out the others' voices but they faded into background noise as you scanned the ground outside. The truck was shaking violently, the winds roaring like a freight train. Every gust rocked the truck testing its limits, and you could feel your heart pounding - but this time it wasn't out of fear.
The gusts of winds got stronger and stronger as the tornado fully enclosed the truck, blocking out all views of the outside world. You were painfully aware of your hammering heartbeat that throbbed against your chest, pounding in your ears as Boone whooped and began pointing his POV camera at Tyler for the stream.
“Hold on!” Tyler yelled over the chaos, using the steering wheel as a brace to pull himself forward, looking up at the sky through the windshield, staring up the large funnel trying to see the inner workings of the tornado. The ground was still vibrating beneath you, jostling the truck even with the anchors drilled deep into the earth. Every second felt like an eternity.
The adrenaline coursing through your veins kept you rooted in the moment, but a part of you couldn’t shake the nagging thought that this was actually real. Not many people could claim they’d been inside of a tornado, especially not that they'd escaped both unharmed and unscathed.
Suddenly, there was a loud crack from above, and a surge of pressure hit the truck. You instinctively pulled tighter on your seatbelt, bracing for impact, but nothing came. The roar of the wind lessened, the truck’s shaking started to subside, and the storm’s intensity began to fade. You dared to glance out the window again, your chest tight as you processed the change.
Maybe the tornado was passing, you thought. It was moving off to the side, leaving only small bits of swirling debris in its wake. A stark contrast to the howling winds that had engulfed you a few minutes before, covering the trucks windshield in dirt and grass and god knows what else.
Tyler let out a breath, relaxing his grip on the wheel as the truck settled, though the storm still raged around you as it died out. He turned back to face you, a grin breaking across his face. “Well, that was somethin',” he said, his voice light, but you could tell he was still buzzing from the experience.
You nodded timidly, and glanced outside again. It was silent for a moment, with only the sounds of your pounding heart in your ears for comfort. You'd never felt so alive.
Eventually, the pounding in your ears let up, beginning to slow until you weren’t aware of it anymore. You looked to Tyler, who was preparing to lift the anchor’s, his jaw set in a way that made your chest tighten.
"You okay?" he asked, watching you in the rearview mirror. His voice was low and sincere. For a moment, the rest of the world seemed to blur out, and all that mattered was the weight of his gaze on you.
Nodding quickly, you felt a flutter in your stomach. “Yeah... its just, wow." You sounded both impressed and relieved, still coming to terms with the adrenaline rush that came with chasing.
Tyler smiled knowing exactly how you were feeling, his eyes not leaving yours. “You did good." he said, voice soft and filled with praise, "Could tell you were a little nervous, but you pulled through.”
You caught a grin of your own forming, the heat on your cheeks now more from his compliment than the storm. “Thanks. I didn’t expect it to feel... like that. It’s different when you’re in it.”
He nodded, his expression understanding. "Yeah, s’crazy isn’t it?" His tone dropped to a thoughtful hum, and you couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment when his focus shifted away from you.
Boone's voice broke the quiet, pulling you out of your thoughts. Turning to the camera that was still rolling. “What a rush, huh, guys?” he laughed shaking his head in disbelief, scanning the comments for anything noteworthy. “We just survived the beast!”
You chuckled at his words while he and Tyler spoke to the camera, his enthusiasm for his job evident both in his voice and on his face. Your smile only getting bigger as Dexter and Dani’s voices came through on the radio checking everyone was safe.
Beside you, Lily was typing frantically into her tablet, checking the storm’s trajectory, and scanning over the data with a laser focus. “I think we’re in the clear… for today,” she said, though her words were cautious.
You exhaled deeply, still unable to fully grasp what had just happened. It was hardly something just anyone got to experience, and especially not at close range. Any other tornado you'd seen had been from the safety of a storm shelter, watching news reports and videos all over social media. But this was different. This was up close and personal with Mother Nature, basking in the wonderful and deadly conjuring of her fury and temper. Even when you closed your eyes, you could still see the dark funnel twisting and billowing towards the truck effortlessly, a testimony to one of the many magical things humanity still couldn't answer.
Boone was practically bouncing in his seat, grinning ear to ear. His excitement vibrated against the truck walls, so overwhelming it could make up for your own exhaustion. “That was the thrill of a lifetime!” he said, reaching around to punch your shoulder, enticing you to indulge him even for a moment. “And you were in the heart of it, Baby Boone! You didn’t just survive a storm—you chased it!”
You felt a smile tug at the corner of your lips despite the overwhelming anxiety that still clung to you. It felt pretty special to be able to share an experience like that with your brother, with no school or work really to tie you down, the freedom of it all was addicting. Spreading warmth through your chest all the way to your fingertips, like you were floating on cloud nine.
“Yeah… and I think I’m done for the day,” you sighed, laughing a little as the adrenaline seeped out of you. Chest decompressing like a large weight had just been lifted from it.
Lily chuckled softly, glancing over. “Fair enough. The first one's always a lot, you get used to it,” she offered with a shrug, her fingers still moving over her tablet. “Let’s head back to the motel. I think we’ve all earned a break.”
With that, Tyler started easing the truck away, heading back onto the same road you had driven down earlier. The rain continued to pour, and the air still felt heavy, but it was nothing like it had been before. The tension that had been bustling in the air had dissipated, leaving behind an eerie calmness that settled into the evening sky. Just as the light had begun to diminish, your energy had too, sucked away by all the excitement of the day. Yet, you couldn't help but keep your eyes trained on the rearview mirror, hoping Tyler would meet your gaze again.
"The chat loves you," Boone chuckled while scrolling through comments. "Baby Boone has her own fan base already." His proud smile earned a laugh from Tyler. You only chewed your lip shyly, a little unsure of how to react. You knew how popular they were, with over a million subscribers on YouTube and just as many - if not more - on their social media.
You'd long ago learned to private your own accounts, as often fans would flood to relatives to sniff out private photos, your parents had to restrict their Facebook accounts as so many people had worked out their relation to Boone and, by extension, Tyler. And Tyler was a big deal to the fans, even if he was humble enough not to flaunt it so obviously. You understood it to a degree. Tyler was attractive, kind, and looked fucking amazing in a cowboy hat - what wasn't there to like?
"Maybe next time you can ride shotgun?" Tyler smirked, as if he could read your thoughts, catching your gaze briefly in the mirror, his emerald ones bore into yours for no longer than a tantalising second before he looked away. "It'd be rude to deny the people," he added, and your heart skipped a beat.
The thought of sitting up front with Tyler terrified you, being in the backseat was nerve-wracking enough never mind being sat next to someone who made you a flustered mess with just one look. But the way his eyes had lingered on you made you wonder if he was just teasing, or if he really meant it. You couldn't say you weren't debating it now, sitting up front with him, watching him completely in his element - it made you shiver.
Boone, oblivious to your thoughts, pouted down into the camera. "You guys would miss ol' Boone in shotgun, right?" he asked the stream, doing his best impression of puppy dog eyes as he scanned the comments. Clearly, he was taken aback by Tyler's words, perhaps even as much as you were.
Lily sucked air in through her teeth, tilting her phone towards Boone "Not so sure about that one, Boonie."
You ignored the nickname with all the strength you could muster, though you made a mental note to tease him about it later. It had always been clear to you Boone had fancied Lily, and the little deviation from his usual name was definitely coming from a place of endearment.
Watching Boone glance down at her phone you noticed the wry smile that tugged on his lips, the way his eyes shone with reluctant acceptance. Curious about what the fans were saying, you craned your neck to try and see her screen, eyes narrowing as you tried to make out the messages which were beginning to flood the screen, the majority of them repeating: 'We need a Baby Boone cam'.
"Looks like you're putting me outta job, sis," Boone sighed playfully, shaking his head dramatically as if he had suffered some tragic fate, "Must run in the family. You're a natural, just like your big bro."
You knew he was only joking, but you couldn't help but feel guilty. You been chasing with them once and already were imposing far more than you'd ever intended to, but you knew if you said that to him, he would've only told you to shut up and take the camera. So you laughed instead, rolling your eyes at the way he stared off into the distance as if mourning his imaginary demotion from being Tyler's right-hand man.
A sly grin spread across your face, the tension from earlier melted away entirely. “It’s okay, Boone,” you teased, patting his arm with mock sympathy, doing your best to turn it into a joke because he would at least appreciate that. “Maybe you can run my fan club.”
“All hail Boone. President of the Baby Boone Fan Club.” Lily quipped, instantly latching on to your teasing, her grin just as mischievous as yours. Oh yeah, she was in deep for him too, you just knew it.
Tyler snorted as he clapped Boone on the shoulder, adding fuel to the fire. “Don’t worry, Boone. You’ll always be my buddy, but I say Baby Boone's upfront with me tomorrow" He grinned
Boone groaned theatrically, but his exaggerated reaction only made everyone else laugh harder. You tried to hide the smile creeping onto your face at Tyler’s comment, but the flutter in your chest betrayed you.
"That's if you want to be?" Tyler asked after a beat, turning around to look at you hopefully. You felt yourself crumbling the second his gaze met yours, the smirk playing on his lips doing things to you that couldn't even be worded. That look would be the death of you one day, you were sure of it.
"I mean.." You bit your lip thoughtfully, trying not to get lost in Tyler's gaze. "If it's what the fans want. Who am I to say no?" you finished with a shrug. Trying to play it off as coolly as you could, as if your inner voice wasn't screaming at you to agree.
Tyler's smirk turned into one of his signature grins, his white teeth flashing as he nodded enthusiastically. You smiled back at him, letting the chuckle fall from your lips a nervous one at first, that spread into laughter as you agreed again, "Baby Boone in shotgun it is."
Your brother shot you a playful glare as he climbed out of the truck. “You’re lucky you’re family,” he muttered, though the grin tugging at his lips revealed a lack of any real annoyance.
"Love you Boonie" you murmured so that Lily didn't hear, catching his gaze mischievously when his eyes widened and his cheeks turned pink. You chucked when he stuck a finger up at you through the window of the truck, pulling the passenger door open for you to climb out.
You climbed out and stepped forward a few paces, lingering beside the truck and glancing back in the direction of the dissipated storm. The tornado's roar had long faded, but you would remember that first chase for the rest of your life, the adrenaline coursing through you, the nerves, the excitement. You were so lost in thought that when Tyler appeared at your side carrying some of the data collection equipment you didn't even notice him till he spoke.
"You planning on helping me here or just standing there lookin' pretty Baby B?"
You spluttered a little at his words, choking on nothing but air as your hand came to rub the back of your neck awkwardly.
"Oh, right. Sorry," you stammered, "Coming..."
As you hurried to grab some equipment, you couldn't help but glance at Tyler again, his easy smile lighting up the quiet, post-storm evening. It felt like the calm after the chaos in more ways than one. Tomorrow, another storm would come—but for now, you let yourself enjoy the warmth of the moment, preparing for tomorrow.
Who is gabi???????
So I've been reading Twisters fanfics for like the last week since I saw the movie and I don't remember anyone named gabi. I made the conclusions that when they are talking about gabi, they are actually talking about dani
Reasons why:
Whenever she is mentioned, it is with the tornado wranglers, which are tyler, Boone, lily, DANI, and dexter, and they don't have anyone named gabi in their group
If I'm wrong, please correct me, but I've also checked the cast list for someone named gabi and haven't found it
Hi I just discovered your account and I’m pretty sure I’m in love. So I was wondering if you could pretty please if your comfortable with it do a fem!reader x Lilly from twisters where reader is comforting Lilly after she almost got swept up by the tornado and just something with a lot of fluff🩷
Tumblr media
Lily x f!reader
Warnings: angst, fluff
Tumblr media
You're pulled from your thoughts when Boone removes his hand from your shoulder, causing you to scramble to your feet, slipping and sliding on the way to get to Lily.
"Lil-" Tyler rushes past as you reach her, Kate's name on his lips as you pull Lily to you, arms tangling around her and gripping tightly. She gasps a sob into your shoulder, her body shaking in your hold.
"I've got you, sweetheart, I've got you-" you repeat it like a mantra until Boone comes up behind Lily and wraps his arms around both of you, his cheek resting on the back of her head and you can see the tears on his face.
"You ok, Boone?" Your voice is soft, and he nods weakly before trying to pull you both even closer.
You can hear a commotion, and then, in the distance, you can see Tyler's truck upside down and no sign of Kate. Tyler takes off in a sprint, Javi close behind him, and you can hear the panic in Tyler's voice as he calls our for Kate.
"Kate.." Lily forces herself away from you and stumbles over to the truck, hand locked in yours.
It's only later, when you're all back in a motel and attempting to sleep that you finally get to hold Lily close, her body pressed to yours as she shakes silently.
"Sweetheart," your voice makes her jump, "I thought I lost you."
She shifts closer.
"And I'm sorry I don't say it enough, but I love you and Lily-" she cuts you off with a soft kiss, legs entangling with yours.
"I love you and I'm not going anywhere."
THE HAT RULE, t. owens
word count | 1.7k words
pairings | tyler owens x meteorologist!fem!reader
summary | where tyler owens decides to show the reader what the hat rule is.
warnings | MINORS DNI!! 18+ ONLY!! HEAVY smut! reader doesn’t know the hat rule. not proofread. lowercase intended.
a/n | first of all, sorry for disappearing, i've had NO motivation to write on here, but i saw twisters yesterday and seeing glen powell in a cowboy hat changed me as a person, and also gave me motivation to write. i’ve never written a full smut so i apologize if this sucks, i've stepped out of my comfort zone for this one.
the first time you had ever encountered a tornado was a memory you were sure to never forget. growing up in new york meant rain and snow but no tornadoes. so when traveling to nebraska on a field trip in high school, you were unprepared when the sirens sounded, sending everyone into a frenzy. you had watched as the rain pelted from the sky, a funnel forming up above. you were mesmerized as your teacher pulled you to safety, a sort of thrill tearing through  your body. from that moment on, you knew what you wanted to do. you went to college for meteorology, graduating near top of your class before going onto to work at a local news station. but it never quite settled the feeling that something was missing, until you stumbled across tyler owens’ youtube channel.
tyler owens had become a sensation, a daredevil who did more than just chase the storms, he rode into them. and that seemed to heighten that need of a thrill. so, you hit him up and to your surprise, he replied. and what had started out as a week off of work to storm chase with the daredevil, turned to going part time at your job and joining him on the road.
that was a season ago, and now you were sat at a dingy bar, sipping a beer with tyler and the team. the man himself was sat on the stool next to you, nursing his own beer and listening to lily speak. you ignored the slight butterflies that entered your stomach as he laughed. you had learned to never mix work and love, but something about tyler had you questioning that lesson. he looked mighty fine in his blue jeans and button up, supporting a cowboy’s hat on his head. you noticed your beer was gone, standing up you turned to your crew.
“i'm gonna get another beer, can i get anyone anything?” no’s were murmured around the group except for one.
“i could use another, how ‘bout i come with ya?” you shrugged, tyler getting up to walk with you. lily let out a low whistle, stopping at your glare.
“be my guest.” you two walked over to the bar top, signaling the busy bartender. “can we get two more, when you get a sec?” the bartender nodded, going to make a few drinks before he could grab their bottles.
“so, miss city girl, how you likin’ riding with us? ready to go back to the big apple yet?” tyler questioned, turning to look down at you slightly. damn the height difference.
“don’t think you’re getting rid of me that quick, i have a lot more storm chasing left in me, cowboy.” you winked, tyler laughing. you debated for just a moment before reaching up and taking the cowboy hat from his head.
“the hell you think you’re doing?” tyler questioned as you placed the hat on your own head, admiring your reflection on your phone.
“you wear this hat all the damn time, i just wanted to see if there was something special about it? maybe it has some magical powers or something.” the bartender came back around, beer bottles in hand. you thanked him, handing him some cash before turning back to tyler, who had an odd look in his eye. you quickly took off the hat, worried you had pissed him. you went to hand it back to him, when tyler shook his head:
“keep it on, it suits you.” tyler picked up his beer, beginning back to the table. the comment caused a light blush to dust your cheeks. shaking your head, you hoped it didn't show too much as you followed him back. you sat in your seat, confused by the odd looks you received from the crew. nobody said anything about the hat as the night went on, but that didn’t stop the odd looks.
by last call, it was you and tyler left of the crew. thankfully the bar was across the street from the motel, tyler paying the tab much to your protest, before setting off back to the motel. you had forgotten you still wore tyler’s hat upon your head, only remembering when you went to brush your hair from your eyes, your hand bumping the rim. “hey, do you know why everyone kept giving me weird looks after i put your hat on? and why boone and dani wouldn’t stop snickering?” tyler looked over to you as you climbed the stairs of the motel.
“you don't know?” you shook your head in response, tyler holding a bewildered look. “you don't know the hat rule?”
“there’s a hat rule?” tyler stopped at his door, which neighbors your’s and lily’s. “what?”
“you wear the hat, you ride the cowboy.” he deadpanned, your eyes widening and a heavy blush coating your cheeks.
“oh my god! i promise i wasn’t trying to imply that or anything. not there’s anything wrong with you, because you’re– well you’re you, and–”  you fumbled over your words, stopping mid sentence when tyler laughed.
“hey, it's fine. if you weren’t trying to insinuate that, that’s fine. but if you were, well, now's your chance. and i’d be more than happy to show you how that rule works.” tyler walked closer, a minimal amount of space between you, just enough to allow you to choose whether you close that gap or leave.
you stood there for a moment, stunned at his offer. and without much thought, you closed the gap, hands going to grip his face and pull him closer to you. his hands moved to your hips, fingers digging into the fabric of your shorts. the kiss was feverish, all unspoken feelings surfacing. tyler began to pull away much to your dismay, one hand leaving your hip to fish out his keys from his pocket as he moved his other arm to hold your waist. he unlocked the door with ease, pulling you inside and shutting the door before pushing you up against it, the hat falling as he did so. he went to town on your neck, enticing soft moans and whimpers from your lips. the way he sucked at your neck and how he had previously handled you had conjured up a pool of wetness in your panties.
your arm wrapped around his neck, holding him to your throat, as your fingers tugged at his hair. he groaned against your skin, biting down ever so softly when you tugged on his hair. he gripped at your leg, pulling it up to give him better access to your cunt. he rubbed his clothed cock along you covered cunt, pleased with the moans that escaped your mouth.
“god, keep moaning like that and i might have to take you right here.” you blushed once more, pulling tyler to meet your lips once more. you pushed off the door, lips still connected to tyler’s as you blindly pushed him back to the bed. his legs hit the edge of the bed, tyler breaking the kiss as he pulled off your shirt, both of you kicking off your shoes and socks before lips were reattached once more.
you pulled back, tyler unbutton his shirt as you began to work on his belt buckle. “woah, easy, pretty girl. you’ll get a taste, don’t worry. the night’s still young. but for now, i gotta show ya what happens when ya wear the hat.” tyler pulled off his shirt, walking to pick up the forgotten hat, placing it on your head. “this stays on.” you nodded, eyes hooded as tyler pulled your shorts and panties down. “you’re even more perfect than i had imagined.” before you could question him, tyler pulled his jeans off, his boxers next as his cock sprung up. tossing them to the side tyler pulled you onto his lap as he sat on the edge of the bed, “you sure ‘bout this? i don’t have any condoms.” tyler asked, different from how he just was. you nodded, kissing him softly.
“i’m on the pill, and i trust you.” tyler nodded, holding over his cock as he slowly guided it along your pussy. you held yourself up as tyler’s thumb rubbing your clit, enjoying your whimpers. “please, tyler.” you begged, tyler aligning his cock with your entrance before guiding you down. you hand went your hat as your head rested on tyler’s shoulder, almost pornographic moans escaping from your lips. “oh my god.” he slowly eased himself into you, whispering praises as he did so.
“god, feels like you were made for me.” your cunt hugged his cock beautifully. when his cock was fully in, he allowed you to get used to the stretch, “tell me when you're ready.” you stilled for a moment, adjusting to his size. you kissed and sucked on his neck, slowly beginning to rock your hips. “fuck, let’s get this off of ya.” tyler’s hands skillfully unclipped your bra, tossing it to the side, fingers ghosting over your perky nipples. you pulled off his shoulder, giving him better access to your tits. “you’re fuckin’ beautiful, darlin’.” tyler attached his mouth to one of your nipples, enticing a soft moan. you continued to ride him, hips moving faster as you chased your incoming orgasm. your left hand gripped tyler’s shoulder, fingernails digging into his bare skin as your right hand held onto the hat that adorned your head.
as your orgasm inched closer and closer, your movements became more erratic, chasing your high. tyler moaned, whispering praises as your walls clenched around his cock. he knew you were close, mouth moving to your pulse point as he pounded into you, taking over. tyler clapped a hand over your mouth as your orgasm hit, muffling your screams so you didn't wake up your neighbors. his movements however did not slow as he worked you through your orgasm, chasing his own high. your legs trembled as he continued to pound into you, your second orgasm of the night approaching quickly. “fuck! fuck, ty-” you cut yourself off, body shaking as you hit your climax once more. tyler began to huff and moan, pulling you impossibly closer as he reached his own high. you blubbered, unable to form actual words as tyler’s hands roamed your body. you pulled back, kissing him roughly.
“goddamn,” he helped you off his cock, helping guide you onto the bed, “think you’ll be able to handle a round two?”
“don’t go thinking you can get rid of me that easily.”
“Where is she?”
Tyler isn’t sure if he’s ever felt this angry before. He considers himself a fairly easy going man, always quick to make light of a situation and put everyone in the room at ease with his charming, joking nature.
But this was different. This had his heart pounding, his ears ringing. His face is flushed red and he feels like he can hardly breathe.
All because of her.
He slams the door of his truck, approaching his crew in the gas station parking lot with a look on his face that’s so completely un-Tyler that it makes them all shift uneasily.
“Where’s…who?” Boone tries weakly, unsuccessful in his attempt to play dumb. Lily rolls her eyes and elbows him in the ribs, shooting him a glare.
Tyler clenches his jaw, for once not in the mood for his friends’ antics. “You know damn well who I’m talking about.”
They all exchange glances, his uncharacteristic demeanor both surprising and concerning. This isn’t the calm, charismatic frontman of the Tornado Wranglers they’re used to.
“She’s in the RV, but I don’t think-” Dani begins, but he’s already beelining for the camper before they can finish. He can hear his heartbeat pulsing in his ears as he nearly bursts through the door, finding her sitting at the small table in the back with her head in her hands.
Her gaze snaps up at the sound of his entrance into the RV, and her face immediately drops when she sees him practically fuming. “Tyler-” she says urgently, instantly on her feet as he approaches as if she’s about to defend herself. But he isn’t having any of it.
“You wanna tell me what the hell you were thinking out there?” He seethes, suddenly towering over her with his jaw clenched and hands on his hips. She swallows thickly, nervous around this version of him. Terrified to have upset him, disappointed him.
“Tyler, I promise, I was just trying to do the right thing-” she starts again, her tone practically pleading, but he just scoffs.
“The right thing?” He questions in disbelief, cutting her off with a shake of his head. “You call nearly getting yourself killed in the field ‘doing the right thing’?”
She squeezes her eyes shut at the reminder of what she’d done, at the venom in his voice that’s ordinarily so gentle when directed at her. Memories of what had transpired nearly 20 minutes ago flood her mind and she feels a lump forming in her throat.
“I couldn’t let our data get lost,” she whispers weakly, her gaze glued to the floor in shame. “Bullshit,” he mutters, jaw clenched as his breath picks up. His eyes search her face, grasping to understand why the hell she had risked her life the way she had.
“You don’t run into the path of an incoming EF3 to recover some stupid equipment for our disruption research,” he practically spits, his voice growing louder, more emotional.
“That equipment is completely replaceable. You sure as hell aren’t. So I want to know why on god’s green earth you thought it was a good idea to run headfirst into danger like that.”
Her breath hitches, her eyes welling up with unshed tears at the reminder of her brashness. She feels ashamed and almost embarrassed as Tyler practically berates her.
They were best friends, a pair that the rest of the team liked to call the “dynamic duo.” With a shared passion for tornadoes and a taste for danger, they had instantly clicked from the moment they met during a chase a few years ago, becoming inseparable. Which is why Tyler’s harsh reminder of her stupidity stung so painfully.
She wasn’t used to hearing him so upset, so emotional in the worst way. With her, his tone was always soft, teasing, sometimes so overtly flirty that it would leave her heart pounding and her cheeks flushed.
But this was different. Now his gaze was harsh, curses unnaturally tumbling from his lips as she struggled to explain herself. And she hated every moment of his scrutinizing stare.
“You’ve worked so hard on putting together the equipment for the disruption research. I didn’t want you to have to start from scratch…not after all the effort you went through,” she explains pathetically, her voice cracking slightly as her emotions begin to shine through.
Tyler shakes his head, stepping even closer into her space. “And you thought it was worth risking your life for?” He grits out, his furrowed brow and downturned lips looking so unnatural on his normally smiling face.
Another shuddering breath escapes her as she catches herself from revealing the true reason she’d been so careless, from baring her soul and telling him that she’d run into the path of an incoming tornado because she loved him more than anything. That the thought of his disappointed face, his devastation over months of work lost to an unpredictably large tornado, hurt her so much that she would have done anything to save that equipment.
Anything to make him happy, to be the hero that he was to her.
“I- I didn’t get hurt, I knew I had time to get at least some of it-” she stammers, but she can’t get the words out.
“You didn’t have time!” He practically yells, gripping her shoulders and giving her a gentle shake. His eyes are wide, his gaze burning as he stares down at her.
“If Boone hadn’t been close by with his truck, you could’ve easily not made it. You could’ve died,” he chokes out, his grip on her tightening. His eyes are watering now, his anger fizzling out into something more desperate, more panicked.
Tyler still remembers the pure, unadulterated fear he’d felt as she slipped out of the safety of his truck before he could stop her, sprinting out into the open field where the winds and torrential rain were getting worse by the second.
He remembers the devastated scream of her name that had ripped itself from his chest, lost to the howling winds.
He sure as hell can’t forget the feeling of overwhelming fear and helplessness that overtook him when the rain became so intense that he could not longer see her, no longer assure himself that she hadn’t been sucked up into the raging funnel or hurt by the flying debris.
It was only when he got radio confirmation from Boone five minutes later, stating that she was safe in their truck with some of the equipment intact, that he even knew she was alive.
It had been the most hopeless, terrifying five minutes of his life.
“Don’t you understand what you mean to everyone? What you mean to me?” He rasps, his voice quieter now, more broken. “Some stupid equipment for an experiment isn’t worth your life, Y/N. Not in the least.”
His eyes are tender now as they rake over her face, scanning the scrapes and cuts littering her cheeks, the patch of dried blood clinging to her temple. His heart aches at the thought of her getting hurt, even if the injuries are small.
She notices that nearly all of his anger has left his body, replaced by the emotion that had truly been brewing beneath the surface: crippling fear at the possibility of losing her.
A silent tear runs down her face at his softer, more vulnerable words, her heart breaking as she realizes the effect her thoughtless actions have had on the man she loves. He’s quick to gently wipe it away with the pad of his thumb, his touch lingering on her cheek as he gazes at her.
“I’m sorry,” she whispers, her voice breaking as she chokes back a sob. In an instant, he’s enveloping her in his tight, comforting hold, cradling her head to his chest and pulling her so close to him that their bodies are practically molded together.
“Shhh…it’s alright, sweetheart,” he gently hushes, his hand stroking through her hair as she cries softly against him. He’s back to himself now, all anger and frustration long abandoned in favor of his naturally calm, caring demeanor. Through her tears, she feels herself flushing slightly at his term of endearment.
“I’m the sorry one. I shouldn’t have yelled at ya, you didn’t deserve it,” he murmurs into her ear, his arms tightening around her.
He internally berates himself for defaulting to anger when she had also probably been scared and upset. But thinking she had died in that tornado just for attempting to recover his equipment had struck something so deep within him that his brain had reacted irrationally.
He stews in his remorse for a moment longer before admitting a truth that might be a little too vulnerable, a little too revealing of his deep and unwavering love for her, but he has to get it off his chest.
“…You just scared me half to death, darlin’. I can’t lose you...I can’t. It would tear me apart worse than a damn tornado ever could.” His whispered words are so raw and tinged with devastation that her breath hitches against his chest.
Slowly, she peels herself away from his comforting embrace to get a good look at him, and what she finds makes her heart clench in her chest.
His eyes are red and glassy, obvious signs that he’d been crying. His muscles are taught with anxiety, like every fiber in his body had been tense ever since she fled his truck. His hair is slightly tousled and she instantly knows he’d been running his hand through it the way he does when he’s stressed.
The thought that she could cause him this much worry, this much pain, sucks the breath from her lungs and makes her feel dizzy.
“I only tried to save the equipment because I knew how important the research was to you,” she whispers, her voice still shaky but full of sincerity.
“I know how much it means to you, finding a way to keep these tornadoes from causing so much damage to innocent lives. I just- I wanted to do something brave and selfless for you, the way you always have for me,” she admits softly, swallowing as she meets his gaze.
His lips part slightly at her admission, the reverence in her words staggering. Hearing that she cares for him, finds him brave and selfless, wants to return the way he makes her feel, fills his heart with a love so deep he feels like he’s drowning in it.
“Y/N, you’re-” he rasps, pausing to clear his throat when he hears how raw and weak his voice sounds.
“You’re so damn sweet. Your heart is so big. That’s what I love about you. But please, don’t be as stupid as me. I throw myself headfirst into danger so much because I don’t think first…my judgement gets clouded by the thought of helping someone and I get tunnel vision. Which has put me in one too many potentially life-ending scenarios,” he murmurs, his hands squeezing her slightly as they rest on her shoulders.
“I can’t- I won’t let you be that careless. You mean too much to me.”
Her eyes widen at the tenderness in his voice, the affection and worry dripping from every word. It feels like their conversation is breaching on something deeper, something much more vulnerable and terrifying.
Her mind is hung up on his soft that’s what I love about you. Even hearing the word love directed at her from the mouth of Tyler Owens makes her head spin and her face heat up, and she’s unsure if she’s even breathing anymore.
“Tyler…” she manages, her voice threatening to break with the overwhelming swirl of emotions running through her. She can’t help herself, knows that she’s finally going to put it out there, tell him how she feels no matter how scary it might be.
“I love-” his lips are on hers before she can even finish. The sensation of Tyler kissing her is unlike anything she’s ever felt, and she’s damn sure she never wants him to stop.
His large hand tenderly cups her cheek while the other snakes into her hair, tangling his fingers through the strands as he pulls her even closer. She gasps softly as his grip tightens, his lips moving against her own with an almost feral desperation.
The salt from her tears mixes with his sweet taste – something like honey and peppermint – and she melts further into him and his warmth. She can feel him pour every ounce of his turbulent, pent-up emotions into the kiss, and it leaves her completely breathless.
He’s waited for this moment for so long, and after thinking he’d lost her today, he’d be content to just kiss her like this for the rest of time. Reassuring himself that’s she’s still there, that she’s his. Showing her what she means to him.
Finally getting a grip on his emotions, Tyler pulls away for a moment, wanting to make sure he hasn’t misread the signs, misinterpreted what he’d felt brewing between them for so long.
But a wide, disbelieving grin spreads across her face as she fights to catch her breath, and he suddenly has no doubt that she’s been his all along.
“I’ve been waiting for that for- well, I don’t even know how long,” she laughs breathlessly, slightly woozy from his intoxicating taste.
He huffs a laugh in return, his eyes shining with an overwhelming adoration for the woman before him. “Yeah…I think Boone might owe Dexter and Lily some money,” he jokes softly, his thumb gently brushing her rain-soaked hair away from her face.
His eyes roam over her, taking in every inch of her muddy clothes, her scraped up hands, the shallow cut on her temple. Regret courses through him at the way he’d raised his voice at her, even if it had been out of fear of losing her.
“Are you sure you weren’t hurt?” He murmurs, his voice lower and more serious than before. She gently nods, her hand moving to rest on top of his own as it cups her face.
“I’m ok, promise. It’s just a little scrape from slipping in the mud,” she reassures him, sensing his lingering gaze on her slightly bloodied face. She can practically feel the apprehension in his stare, his constant worry for her well-being so endearing that she just wants to kiss him again and again.
“I promise, Ty. And I swear, I won’t do anything like that again. I just got lost in the moment and didn’t think before acting.” He nods slowly, letting the sincerity in her voice wash over her and comfort his racing mind.
“You’d better not,” he teases softly, a ghost of a smile pulling at his lips. “If we’re doing this thing, no more running headfirst into tornadoes, you hear? Can’t have my girl acting like an irrational daredevil like me. I’ve been told she’s smarter than that.”
She feels herself blushing as he calls her his girl, the title rolling off his tongue so naturally that it makes her heart skip a beat. Tyler watches as a hearty laugh escapes her and she leans into his touch, his own smile growing wider.
Suddenly nothing else has ever mattered beyond this moment of her in his arms, blushing and laughing like he’s the funniest damn man in the world.
“Ok, alright,” she giggles with feigned exasperation. “No more running into tornado paths, I swear. Wrangler’s honor. But you have to swear it too. You’re an adrenaline junkie and a trouble maker, even more than I am.”
He chuckles at her playful jab, his body feeling lighter than it has all day as he finally lets the tension within him fade. She’s safe, he tells himself over and over. She’s alive, she’s teasing him like she always does, and she’s got him smiling like a damn fool.
“Baby,” he mutters with that teasing glint in his eye, “you need to get my head checked if I ever run away from you and into a tornado. No man in his right mind would leave a gorgeous thing like you for some wind.”
Before she can reply to his ridiculous comment, he captures her lips once more with his own, relishing in the way she smiles against him as he pulls her closer.
This is all Tyler’s ever wanted - all he’s ever needed. Just her, safe and sound, loving him in all his flaws and worry for her.
If her running into that damn field led to this moment, this reality where she’s finally his, then so be it. He’s never been more grateful for a tornado.
Tumblr media
You’ve had a crush on Tyler ever since the day you met him, and to you, he was way out of your league. You also weren’t the only one who felt this way; the amount of girls who showed up at empty fields just to meet Tyler was insane, but could you really blame them?
Tyler has so much charisma to the point where it seems like he’s attracted to everyone he meets.
When he stares directly into everyone’s eyes, giving them his undivided attention, and flashes that charming smile of his, it’s kind of hard to tell who he actually is or isn’t flirting with.
You, of course, were no different, so how the hell were you supposed to know that he liked you back?
Tyler was from Arkansas and he and his team decided to move to Oklahoma to storm chase several seasons ago. When he first showed up that day at the gas station with Boone filming his every move, you thought that he was just another adrenaline junky wanting to see a tornado  up close for views. At the time you were a part of another group of chasers from Oklahoma, and since you had already made up your mind about him, you decided it was best to ignore him.
But, he made it hard.
You were surprised to see him walk over to your group and start chatting it up with a couple of your teammates. Turns out, they knew him from his youtube channel and were fans. Having him so close to you made it easier to check him out, which Tyler had noticed, but never called you out for it.
He came up to introduce himself to you, giving you a smile and taking off his sunglasses as he walked towards you.
“You’re a long way from home,” you had told him – you had overheard him talking about his hometown in Arkansas.
“This is my home now,” he had said.
He had pointed out that he was familiar with some of your work and began joking around with you so casually like he had known you his whole life. Unfortunately, you became immediately hooked.
You spent that night binging all of his videos and past live streams because you were oh so wrong about him.
That day led you to where you are now, a part of Tyler’s crew and regularly going out on chases for the fun of it.
“How are you doin’ today, Bambi?” you hear Tyler walk up and come stand next to you as you adjust the lens on your camera. You, and all the other crews, were currently at a gas station preparing for the coming storm.
When he had first given you that nickname, you had told him it was basic, which resulted in him smirking and saying, “Ain’t nothing basic about you.”
You still think about that moment to this day.
“Just fine, Tyler, is there something I can help you with?” you answer, not taking your eyes off your camera.
“What, I can’t talk to my favorite person?” he asks.
You can hear the smile in his voice, and when you finally turn around to look at him, you aren’t surprised to see it spread across his face. “I thought Boone was your favorite person?” you tilt your head at him.
“I can have more than one favorite,” he says, nudging you with his soldier.
You raise your eyebrows and glance over at Boone, who was already looking in your direction with a knowing smile, and say, “I wonder how Boone would feel about that.”
Boone was Tyler’s best friend and had known you had a crush on Tyler the day you joined the team, and since then has repeatedly told you to confess to Tyler. Every time you tell him no, he just tells you yes because according to him Tyler feels the same way about you. It didn’t take long for Dani and Lily to catch on either, but unlike Boone, they don’t pressure you.
“No need to start any trouble,” Tyler jokes, and you laugh at that. He opens his mouth to say something else, but stops when he hears the sound of more vehicles pull up.
The two of you turn around in time for you to see the crew exit their vehicles, including Javi and what you know to be Kate. You’ve never met Kate given the fact that she rarely decides to come back home to Oklahoma, but from what you’ve heard she’s really good with tornadoes.
You watch as the pair head towards you – Javi coming up to hug you while Kate goes to hug Tyler. Javi shoots you a look as he glances over at the two, and you quickly give his shoulder a shove, causing him to let out a laugh.
Javi is also amongst those who know you like Tyler. This crush is honestly starting to become a little pathetic.
Kate pulls away from Tyler and looks over at you with a kind smile, holding her hand out for you to shake. “Hi, I’m Kate. I’ve heard a lot about you from Javi, so it’s nice to finally meet you.”
According to Boone, Tyler couldn’t keep his eyes off of Kate the last time she was here. At the time your migraines had started to come back so you had decided to sit the chase out, and good thing you did because there was no way you could handle watching that scene unfold.
You offer Kate a smile back as you shake her hand. “Same here, it’s nice to meet you.”
“What brings you city folks out here?” Tyler jokes.
Kate rolls her eyes at the nickname. “I’m doing the same thing the two of you are doing – storm chasing,” she replies as she looks out at the horizon at the clouds forming, her hair moving with the breeze.
“I thought you left Storm Par,” you say to Javi as you motion your head towards the white trucks
“We did, but that doesn’t mean we can’t use their equipment. They have some really high tech stuff – we might as well put it to good use,” Javi explains. He then looks over at Kate and gives her a nudge. “Not like we need it since Kate’s here.”
Kate gives him a small smile at the compliment.
“Well, city girl, which direction are we going in today?” Tyler asks as Kate bends down to take a dandelion into her hand. Tyler takes his sunglasses off in order to get a better look at the sky.
It’s a question Tyler usually asks you when it’s just the two of you in his truck with the rest of the crew following behind in their vehicles. You have no right to be jealous, but that doesn’t stop the feeling of jealousy from growing in your chest. Choosing to ignore it, you take a deep breath and watch Kate, waiting for her answer.
You watch as a gust of wind blows the specks of dandelion out of her hand, causing Kate to look up into the sky at a dark funnel beginning to take form.
“That one,” Kate points.
“Are you sure?” Tyler questions in a teasing manner, one of his eyebrows raising.
“I’ll tell you later,” Kate replies, and then follows it with a question, “ do ya mind if I ride with you?”
“Not at all,” Tyller answers, but then turns to look at you,” as long as my trusty navigator doesn’t mind.”
What the hell are you supposed to say? No?
You don’t even notice your tense jaw until you open your mouth to answer. “Of course not, you two go ahead,” you tell Tyler, looking between him and Kate as you offer up a smile.
“Well then it’s settled, let’s ride. Just make sure you don’t get me lost,” Tyler smirks as he turns to walk towards his truck. Kate rolls her eyes as she follows him, a small smile on her lips.
Javi turns to you once the pair are out of earshot. “You don’t mind?” he repeats your words, not believing you for a second.
“I don’t,” you give him a shrug as you begin walking towards his Storm Par truck. Javi follows right behind you, his hands stuffed into his pockets.
“Mhm. You look like you were about to pop a blood vessel,” Javi lets out a laugh.
You stop in your tracks and turn to face him. “Was it that obvious?” you ask, your eyes wide.
“Relax, I’m kidding,” his smile drops once he sees the look on your face. You release a breath and continue walking. Once the two of you are in the safety of his truck, Javi asks, “you really like him, huh?”
“Unfortunately,” you huff out. “I’m slowly trying to get over it, though.”
“Why?”
“Because it's a useless little schoolgirl crush, and it’s not like he’s actually going to like me back, so there’s no point in continuing to suffer.”
Javi just hums in response, starting the vehicle and placing his hands on the steering wheel. Then he glances over at you, “I say you should hold out, what’s the worst that can happen?”
Before you can answer, Tyler’s truck pulls up beside you guys on Javi’s side of the car. Tyler leans forward to look over at the two of you before moving his finger in a swirling motion and driving off.
“That’s your man, huh?” Javi gives you a questioning look, his tone light.
You let out a small laugh, “Just drive the damn truck, Javi.”
The chase was eventful as always. Kate’s instincts were right and led the group right into the tornado’s path, where Tyler stopped to anchor his truck. The rest of you hung back as you watched Tyler shoot fireworks into the eye of the storm.
Even though you had some distance on them, you could still hear the hoots and hollers coming from their spot in the field. The group of tornado watchers that had decided to join the chase got out of their vehicles to join the celebration.
Javi looks over at you and shakes his head in fake disappointment, resulting in you rolling your eyes.
After the chase everyone decides to go out for drinks before heading to the motel. From your spot at the bar next to Javi, you can see Tyler in the back of the bar throwing darts with Kate.
“You know, you should blink every once in a while,” you hear a voice say in your ear. You jump and turn around to see Boone standing there with a grin and a beer in one of his hands.
“I don’t think she cares at this point, she has been ignoring me all night for that redneck,” Javi jokes.
You scoff, “No, I haven’t.”
“Oh really? What was I just talking about then?” Javi looks at you with his eyebrows raised. Boone joins him and turns his attention back to you.
Your mouth opens, but you quickly close it when you realize you don’t have an answer. You let out a sigh as you drop your head into your hands. “I’m sorry,” you say in defeat.
“Don’t worry about it,” Javi says, “I just can’t wait for the two of you to finally get together so this can end.”
“You and me both, brother,” Boone says, clinking his beer bottle against Javi’s.
As the night starts to come to an end, you say your goodbyes to the group before heading back to the motel. It was just across the street, and the majority of the people in the area were tornado chasers, so you had no problem walking back by yourself.
After making your way up the stairs and into your room, you decide on taking a quick shower before heading off to bed.
When you get out, you’re about to turn the lights and the tv off so you can go to sleep when you hear a knock on your door. Assuming it was Boone, Dani, or even Lily, you open the door without hesitation, only to reveal Tyler on the other side.
He stands in front of you, his hands in his pockets as he looks down at you with a gentle smile and his clothes still on from the day. “Hey, there. You left without sayin’ goodbye.”
“Well I told Boone, Javi, Dani, and Lily goodbye, so technically I did,” you tell him. A gust of wind from the night breeze blows through the doorway, causing you to cross your arms over your chest.
“Ouch, I see I’m not important anymore,” Tyler says.
You let out a small laugh. “I’m pretty sure you don’t need me to tell you you’re important.”
“You know I do,” he says.
You let out a small hum in response before asking, “So where’s Kate?”
“I’m actually not sure, last time I saw her, I think she was talking with Javi,” he answers, his eyebrows furrowing as he glances back at the parking lot. Then he shrugs and says, “I had to leave her since she was kicking my ass in darts so who cares.”
“Didn’t enjoy having your ego bruised, huh?” you joke, and Tyler rolls his eyes.
“Hey, I don’t have a problem with gettin’ beat by a woman,” he chuckles.
“Whatever you say,” you smile at him. “Was there something else you wanted? I was just about to go to bed.”
Tyler clears his throat. “Uh yeah, there is actually,” he tells you as he stands up straight. You raise your eyebrows as you wait for him to continue. “I was wonderin’, well hopin’, you would want to do somethin’. You know, just the two of us,” he says.
Is he - No, let’s not jump to conclusions.
“Don’t we always?” you question.
“Well, yeah, but I meant…you know,” Tyler begins to scratch the back of his neck, and glances down at the ground, “Like a date.”
You blink. And blink again. And again.
Then when Tyler notices your silence, he adds, “But I totally understand if you don’t want to.”
You blink again. “Like seriously?” you finally ask. Your eyebrows are furrowed, still not completely believing him.
“Yes,” he says.
“Okay,” you nod, a small smile starting to form on your lips.
Okay? That’s all you have to say?
“Yeah?” Tyler perks up, and you nod again.
“Yeah,” you confirm.
Tyler chuckles. “You know, I don’t know why I was nervous. I already knew you had a crush on me.”
You choke on your spit as you give him an incredulous look. “You what?”
“Yeah, and you know I figured you would catch on to me by now, but I wasn’t sure if you were and just ignoring me or what,” he smirks.
“And how exactly was I supposed to catch on?” you ask, adding air quotes at the end.
“I’ve been flirting with you this whole time,” he tells you like it’s obvious.
“Tyler, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but you flirt with anyone,” you tell him.
“No, I don’t,” Tyler’s face twists up, and you give him a look. He thinks for a second before saying, “Well, yeah, I guess I do. Kind of.”
“What the hell do you mean ‘kind of’?”
“I feel like my serious flirting is different from my usual charming self,” he shoots you a wink.
“No. No it’s not Tyler. Your usual charming self made me think you like Kate,” you tell him, causing his eyebrows to raise in amusement.
Well…maybe you should’ve kept that last part to yourself.
“You thought I liked Kate?” he smiles, leaning in a little bit more.
You roll your eyes and decide not to answer. Tyler takes your silence as a greenlight to keep talking shit.
“Were you jealous?”
You scoff as your eyes widen, “how dare you!”
“You were!” he exclaims, your reaction giving you away.
Feeling your face begin to heat up and wanting to hide from the embarrassment you back up to be able to close the door in his face. “Goodnight Tyler,” you mumble, fully ready to be alone once again, but of course Tyler puts his hand up to stop you.
“Oh come on, Bambi, don’t shy up on me now,” he smirks, going back to leaning on the door with his palm still on the door.
“Says the one who got nervous to ask me out,” you point out, causing Tyler to laugh. “Goodnight,” you repeat, and once again you try to close the door, but you’re met with resistance.
Tyler’s laughter dies down. “Alright, alright, I’ll stop,” he tells you. “Can I come in?”
“I don’t know,” you reply, giving him a stern look.
“Come on, I promise I won’t tease you anymore.”
You sigh. “Fine.”
Tyler thanks you as you step aside to make room for him to enter the room, but as he walks past you, he says, “But Kate? Really?”
Yeah, he isn’t going to let this go anytime soon.
