MTE! I just saw this article and was upset by her comment. She seemed understanding as to why she wasn’t cast bc they wanted ethnically Chinese actors in the film. But Henry being half-white does not make him less Asian or less qualified for the role. Also she’s in an interracial marriage!!! It’s inevitable that when her and Brian decide to conceive, she will have a mixed child. That doesn’t make her child less Korean for being half white.

It must be frustrating for her. But the real problem here is that they just aren’t enough roles for Asians. And I think her frustration with that is partly misguided. Like why so chill about whitewashing Asian characters but calling bullshit on the casting of actual Asians? That’s disappointing.

Absolutely. And I think there is this confusion that being part white is the same as whitewashing... and I think in certain instances, this is true, if a role was not written as such, and it’s the whiteness/eurocentric qualites  that’s considered the appealing, selling pt. But it’s also very conceivable some of the characters in Crazy Rich Asians could be biracial. Also, I think I just resent the tone in which she said it, like they white washed the role because Henry Golding was cast... like she’s putting him in the same bracket as Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson (both are good actors... but neither should or can play Asian people in any time period, past or future).

I think I used to, but it’s gotten a lot better now. Like I used to be really suspicious when someone would tell me they love me, but I don’t feel as wary about that kind of stuff anymore.

97. Favourite actor?

I don’t have one single favorite actor (at least not male actors, like I’m generally just more interested in women), although, I do like Ryan Gosling. I think he toes the line between dramatic and comedic very well, and although he built a reputation for himself as the pretty boy and handsome leading man, he doesn’t shy away from roles that require him to be a little uglier or more awkward (e.g. Blue Valentine or Lars and the Real Girl). So I can respect him for that.

149. Do you believe in ghosts?

Nah. Like I’m open to the possibility of ghosts, but as of right now, there’s no concrete evidence that they exist, so I just don’t buy it.

I got it at a RIDICULOUSLY reasonable price off Ebay! I’m still stunned that it even happened, tbh. Once I got the jacket, I got everything else (off Ebay and Poshmark for good prices too). I was able to put the entire outfit together for just over $200.
