February 6/365 Another Monday. I look out from back verandah and see a #lillypilly badly in need of trimming. Any volunteers? 😕 https://www.instagram.com/p/CoTbhrVSBLg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Went to pick up the granddaughter and they had this Lilly Pilly “Cascade” planted as a hedge in their car park. (Syzygium luehmannii-x-wilsonii lilly pilly) these Australian natives are quite useful because they don’t need much water and they have attractive new foliage, as well as flowers and berries. This as you can see is a hybrid. #Cascade #LillyPilly #Syzygium #native #Australian #bush #waterwise (at Belmont, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Clp2cejPUks/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

3, 6 and 10 for the soft asks?
Took me a couple of days to get to these
3. What's your favourite candle scent?
I'm always drawn to berry ones. I was given a lillypilly and raspberry for christmas and it smells divine. Excited.
6. say three nice things about yourself (three physical and three non-physical).
I have pretty cool hair and I'm excited for my silver fox era in a decade I ooze confidence I am very charming! People laugh and have a good time when I meet them at parties and events I like to dance and I have fun with it and I'm fairly good Nice hands. Good finger dexterity. Nice looking fingernails. Just doing well at hands overall. I did such a good job at resting and rebuilding the last few months.
10. What's something you're excited for?
Next month Partner and I have a date planned at the Lego store where we will pick out lego for ourselves and then go home and build it. I am thrilled at the possibilities.
Also I'm finally going to change my legal name but that comes with paperwork and will take a month and thus less immediate pizzazz. But still good.
And that's today's soft asks

A favourite book of mine is based around the Japanese traditional calendar is Liz Dalby's East Wind Melts the Ice. It's a very gentle, contemplative read - I highly recommend it.
I tried to find a list of first nation seasons for my area of Sydney, the Wangal people of the Eora nation, and came across this list on the Bureau of Meteorology site which you can read about in more detail here. Even though English months are listed as a guide, I don't think they're set in stone - seasons last as long as they last. It makes a lot more sense.
Burran Hot and dry January-March Male kangaroos aggressive Meat forbidden Weetjellan blooming
Marrai'gang Wet becoming cool April-June Quolls seeking mates Lillypilly ripens
Burrugin Cold and frosty June-July Echidna seeking mates Burringoa flowering Shellfish forbidden
Wiritjiribin Cold and windy July-August Lyrebird building mounds Marrai'uo flowering Boo'kerrikin flowering Gentle spring rains
Ngoonungi Cool becoming warm September-October Flying foxes appear Ceremonial time Miwa Gawaian in flower
Parra'dowee Warm and wet November-December Summer heat starts Stable weather
I think it's so important to have a "nature" calendar in your head, like a way of tracking time that's completely separate from anything work or obligation related, not holidays or anything stressful. For instance I look forward to august because at 8pm every night house finches hang around my window for a few weeks. In spring I love waiting for the magnolias to blossom. Just ways of tracking the time with zero stakes that's completely removed from life's zeitgeist and that you really look forward to

New #experiments with #Myrtaceae for the #climatechangeblock (#guavas and #lillypillies varieties). “Cas” aka Costa Rican Sour Guava 🇨🇷 is a family favorite and may be cold-tolerant enough for this hilltop orchard in Sonoma County’s “banana belt.” Wait and see.

The last Lilly-pilly bunch left on the tree in the front yard. There are few sad isolated lilly pillies scattered around on other branches but they're hard to get to. These are a bit too tart for snacking, so I think I'll make a jam out of them instead. #lillypilly #fruit #purple #nativefood #australia #jam #水果 #果醬 #紫色 #澳洲 https://www.instagram.com/p/B9-w-DpDWi-/?igshid=1t5z1jjflvj0z

Riberry (Syzygium luehmannii) is my favourite red-berry Australian native tree, it is a rainforest species from eastern coast. The highly decorative fruits can be eaten raw or made into jam. #australiantree #floraofaustralia #riberry #lillypilly #myrtaceae #澳洲植物
