Urban Legends: Bloody Mary (2005)
In today's review, I can find that repetition might be enough to reboot a dormant franchise. As I attempt a #positive review of the 2005 direct-to-DVD film, Urban Legends: Bloody Mary #KateMara #RobertVito #TinaLifford #CharleneBaptista #EdMarinaro
The thing about legends is that there is often some truth to their origins, maybe person X did exist a long time ago, but their notable deed Y may be just a corruption of the truth, further heightened by time. In 2005, half a decade later, a film explored one such dark tale, oft-reported around youthful slumber parties, and the repercussions if that legend became true in Urban Legends: BloodyâŚ

Youtube Fanfic Comments; Fnaf Stuff
Hey, I made this fnaf fanfic. Wanna hear it? I can type it right here.
@A_Character
@allaniadall9686Â sure
@allaniadall9686
 @A_Character My OC is named Lillith Afton. She is the second eldest of the afton siblings. She knows piano, violin, Latin and mechanical stuff from being around animatronics. She is very protective of her younger siblings resulting her in fighting with Michael a lot. She also doesn't like William afton and is nervous that she'll end up like him. Bloody. More will come soon. Tbc.
@allaniadall9686
 @A_Character It started when CC was bitten. She was keeping an eye on her little brother because she knew that Michael would try to hurt him. But then she had to leave the room and when she came back, imagine how horrified she was when she saw her little brother's bloody body. Eventually, Lizabeth dies. Then William pulls a purple guy. Michael tried to redeem himself by stopping him. Lillith saw him in deep trauma, she tried to help and give him support. When Michael got scooped, Lillith thought she had lost her last sibling and thought that if she couldn't save him then at least she should try to give his body a burial. He will not rot here. Imagine how surprised she was when he was still walking? When he was burned, she did not want to leave him. But he insisted. He was already dead, she still had life in her. What will Lillith do now that everyone is dead? Look at the next chapter and find out. In the meantime, remember it's all just a fiction. A fan fiction.
@allaniadall9686
 @A_Character After losing everyone, she lost it. She pulled a knife and plunged into her heart. Or so everyone thought. Actually, Lillith planned this. She knew she would have to deal with deadly things. She also knew this war would take a long time and she did not want age to get in her way. Plus if she were alive, people would be watching her. And besides, death wasn't the end for them, why should it be the end for her. Her plan. To end her life, then to possess the new robot. It was so newly made, that it did not have a name. Lillith then befriended the little ghosts and was like an older sister to them. In her robot body, she attacked killer animtronics, twisted ones and killers to protect those who are still alive. She still knows piano and violin and would play those to calm souls down. She also takes care of her robot body, so it would last. And some people say they can see Lillith alive, but different a little. Plus with blood on her chest like she had gotten injured there. Actually, she can use illusions to make herself appear normal. She'll just have to say, "Glitch, illusion off" or "on". But is she also in Security Breach too? We'll find out. But remember it's all just a fiction. A fan fiction.
@allaniadall9686
 @A_Character Yes, Lillith lasted until Security Breach. Infact, she was defending Gregory from other robots. She liked him because he reminded her of that little brother of hers in a way. She also had some respect from Glamrock Freddy. She knows her birth father is out there.
@ningning5561
 @allaniadall9686 interesting that you named her "lilith" seeing that the name lilith is of assyrian origin meaning "ghost, night monster". was that intentional or did you just like the name?
@allaniadall9686
 @ningning5561 No. But this is interesting. Thank you.

Once again, a neural net tries to name cats
Last year I trained a neural net to generate new names for kittens, by giving it a list of over 8,000 existing cat names to imitate. Starting from scratch, with zero knowledge of English or any context for the words and letter combinations it was trying out, it tried to predict what letters might be found in cat names, and in which order. Its names ranged from the strange to the completely nonsensical to the highly unfortunate (Retchion, Hurler, and Trickles were some of its suggestions). Without knowledge of English beyond its list of cat names, it didnât know what letter combinations to avoid.
So I decided to revisit the cat-naming problem, this time using a neural net that had a lot more context. GPT-2, trained by OpenAI on a huge chunk of the internet, knows which words and letter combinations tend to be used together on the English-language internet. It also has (mostly) figured out which words and letter combinations to avoid, at least in some contexts (though it does tend to suddenly switch contexts, and then, yikes).
When I trained GPT-2 on the list of cat names using Max Woolfâs colab notebook, it still retained a lot of what it had learned from the rest of the internet. Gone were the strange names like âTilly-Mapperâ and âBalllucidouxâ - it had a bunch of real words it could use instead. Here are some of the names it came up with - and the Morris Animal Refuge (who you may remember from that time they used neural net names for their guinea pigs) has given some of these names to some highly adoptable kittens.
First, neural net can do fancy:
Taffeta Pompompur Monocle Tom Glitter Notion Tinnitus Cheesemonger M. Tinklesby Linklater Soap
It can also do the opposite of fancy:
Scat Cat Butthole Gangrene Moisture Grotesque Petard Oilbag Buttwig The Cream Meatbag Dr Fart Fudge Putty Scumbag Constipation BUTT
And it can also do names ranging from tough to downright sinister:
Miss Vulgar Lillith The Vamp Elle Fury Deadbolt Romeo of Darkness Starmaker Fist Warning Signs Bibles Smoked The Firestarter Higher Rune Scarlet Be Thy Coat Kill All Humans Bones Of The Master Mr. Sinister Evil Whispers Spawn Serendipitous Kill Stranglehold
(Starmaker and Sparky Buttons are from a litter that had upper respiratory infections that damaged their eyes, but even though their world is kinda cloudy, they love to play and cuddle.)
Iâm a particular fan of the Very Weird cat names:
Honeystring Dr Leg Tom Noodle Pinball Scene Peanutbutterjiggles You're Telling A Lie Beep Boop Thoughts Bobble Bun Atmosphere You Name It Whiskeridoo Sparky Buttons
Seemingly This Guy Various Authors Chicken Whiskey Fish Especially Thelonious Monsieur Ringo Shuffles Sweet Cakes EXTAs (Eye Stalks) Checker Spin Donut Quin Two Patz Grandpa He Glad Funky Moe Fluttering Feelers Accepted A Tribute Chewie Bean PLEASE Gregory Chimney Notable PRODUCT LEGEND Weird Science Platinum Not Suitable For Character the Enforcer
Did I mention these cats are adoptable? If you live near Philadelphia, you live near these kitties!

How The West Was Won is an American epic western adventure film from 1962. It stars Spencer Tracy as the Narrator, James Stewart as Linus Rawlings, Carroll Baker as Eve Prescott Rawlings,Debbie Reynolds as Lillith Prescott van Valen, Karl Malden as Zebulon Prescott,Agnes Moorehead as Rebecca Prescott,Walter Brennan as Col. Jeb Hawkins,Brigid Bazlen as Dora Hawkins,Gregory Peck as Cleve Van Valen,Robert Preston as Roger Morgan,Thelma Ritter as Agatha Clegg,David Brian as Lilith's attorney,George Peppard as Zeb Rawlings,Andy Devine as Corporal Peterson,Harry Morgan as Gen. Ulysses S. Grant,John Wayne as Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman,Russ Tamblyn as Confederate deserter,Raymond Massey as President Abraham Lincoln,Henry Fonda as Jethro Stuart, and Richard Widmark as Mike King.
Plot
The film begins with narration by Spencer Tracy as the aerial-borne camera sweeps over the Rocky Mountains. "This land has a name today", says Tracy in the opening lines of the film, "and is marked on maps."
The film then moves into "The Rivers" sequence.
The Plains
Eve's sister Lilith chose to go back East,but after some years finds herself touring in St. Louis, where she and her troupe are hired to perform trendy acts at the Music hall. She attracts the attention of professional gambler Cleve Van Valen. After overhearing that she has just inherited a California gold mine, and to avoid paying his debts to another gambler,Cleve joins the wagon train taking her there. Wagonmaster Roger Morgan and he court her along the way, but she rejects them both, much to the dismay of her new friend and fellow traveler Agatha Clegg,who is searching for a husband.
Surviving an attack by Cheyennes, Lilith and Cleve arrive at the mine, only to find that it is worthless. Cleve leaves. Lilith returns to work in a dance hall in a camp town, living out of a covered wagon. Morgan finds her and again proposes marriage unromantically. She tells him, "Not now, not ever."
The Railroad
Following the daring riders from the Pony Express and the construction of the transcontinental telegraph line in the late 1860s, two ferociously competing railroad lines, the Central Pacific Railroad and the Union Pacific Railroad, one building westward and the other eastward, open up new territory to eager settlers.
Zeb becomes a lieutenant in the U.S. cavalry, trying to maintain peace with the Native Americans with the help of grizzled buffalo hunter Jethro Stuart,an old friend of Linus'. When ruthless railroad man Mike King violates a treaty by building on First Nation territory, the Arapahos retaliate by stampeding buffalo through his camp, killing many, including women and children. Disgusted, Zeb resigns and heads to Arizona.
The Outlaws
Zeb,his wife Julie,and their children meet Lilith at Gold City's train station. However, Zeb also runs into an old enemy there, outlaw Charlie Gant. Zeb had killed Gant's brother in a gunfight. When Gant makes veiled threats against Zeb and his family, Zeb turns to his friend and Gold City's marshal, Lou Ramsey,but Gant is not wanted for anything in that territory, so Ramsey can do nothing.
Zeb decides he has to act rather than wait for Gant to make good his threat someday. Suspecting Gant of planning to rob an unusually large gold shipment being transported by train, he prepares an ambush with Ramsey's reluctant help. Gant and his entire gang are killed in the shootout and resulting train wreck. In the end, Lilith and the Rawlings family travel to their new home.
Epilogue
A short epilogue shows how modern America has grown from the West in the early 1960s, which includes footage of the Hoover Dam, the four-level downtown freeway interchange in Los Angeles,and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

Review: The Good Witch of the South
The Good Witch of the South by T. C. Bartlett My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars
Children's author T. C. Bartlett's middle-grade debut novel had its inception in an image he painted of a fairy. (1) As he put the finishing touches on the image, he was struck with the idea that he had painted the daughter of Glinda the Good, the beautiful and goodhearted witch from L. Frank Baum's Oz stories, who is Queen of the Quadlings. From this kernel of an idea, he developed the story of Samantha Goodwitch, a sixteen-year-old witch-fairy, Glinda's younger daughter.Â
Like any teen, Samantha (or Sam as she prefers to be called) is keen to be treated as an adult. She is eager to assume her role in defending the Quadlings and maintaining the peace in Oz. She's been training for years with her mother's guards Saran and Lillith. But she's a bit prone to working around her mother's wishes, like the one where she is to stay home and guard the castle. Rumors of dark forces rising beyond the borders of Quadling Country abound. Stories of beloved members of Oz, like the Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman, and Cowardly Lion having fallen victim to evil are worrisome, as is the disappearance of Sam's father, Lucius. Queen Glinda plans to visit Rumpart, King of the Winkies, to see if rumors of wickedness creeping out of Winkie Country are true. Sam idolizes her older sister Elle, who is the biological daughter of the Wicked Witch of the West. Elle already serves at their mother's side and will travel with their mother to Winkie Country. She tries not to be jealous of Elle, and so she uses her time wisely- in the library. Sam is drawn to a book of the history of Quadling Country, where she comes across a note from Ozma, the Princess of Oz. The book mentions dragons, great and small, who are controlled by wicked witch fairies. But she also learns that magic using pieces of dragons' teeth can create a race of giant dragon warriors that serve the person sowing the teeth. Of course, you know it's only a matter of time until Sam goes off looking for dragons! Who and what will she find, and are the rumors of a new Wicked Witch Fairy correct? With a Shadow Cat princess named Akasha and sturdy Munchkin named Thorn as her companions, can Sam save not just the Quadlings but all of Oz?
The Good Witch of the South is an engaging read for older children who love Ozian-based stories. While it extensively echoes some aspects of The Wizard of Oz (especially so when it comes to the new Wicked Witch of the West and her taunts), it offers a less nuanced depiction of good and evil than stories like Gregory Maguire's Wicked. The magic system in the book isn't developed beyond that of Baum's vision, and I wished sometimes that it was... more magical. Sam is a straightforward, goodhearted girl who wants to be a hero. She thinks she can save the day and Oz. Some of the secondary characters in the story, like Elle, their mother Glinda, and father Lucius, don't have a great deal of depth on the page. But for a middle-grade novel, this book is a fun, action-filled read. The epilogue leaves things wide open for a sequel.
Currently only available in hardcover, the book's first edition was released in September 2020 and is already in a second printing as of late November 2020. Purchasers should be aware that this second edition does not bear the colorful dusk jacket of the limited first edition, though it does have the same lovely interior ink wash drawings. The blog will be hosting a giveaway of the second edition hardcover in support of the author and his small publishing house.
Updated 12/05/20: I've been informed by the author's publicist that Amazon has been shipping some books without the dust jacket and it's not clear if it's an error at Amazon's end or the printer's end, but the books should have the green fairy dust jacket.
Updated 12/11/2020: There have been questions about the content warning and what "allusions to mass murder" means. There is an evil witch and she kills people. On page 245 of my review copy there is a description of a field full of corpses and skeletons. This isn't about death camps, or genocide. It might be intense for younger children or it might not hold full meaning for them. It might be a trigger for some with personal or family experiences. CW: torture, allusions to mass murder, death of parent

Urban Legends: Bloody Mary (2005)
Aaaaaaand this film ruins it. As slasher films that depend on urban legends to thrive, theyâre entertaining. As a supernatural film about an urban legend, theyâre awful. Not even the star power of (one) celebrity, hello Kate Mara, could save this atrocity. It was a sad attempt at reviving a franchise, but who knows their reasoning behind making it a real supernatural ghost story. Would have been cool if it had been about the character Brenda.
Rating: D. As a stand alone movie, it was pretty entertaining. As the third in a series, it was horrific.
