(Okay so I’m looking back at my own interests as a kid so don’t come for me)

As a little LITTLE kid, she was definitely a huge fan of Kevin Henkes books, so like “Chrysanthemum”, “Lilly’s purple plastic purse”, “Owen”. I feel like she would really like those books. “Charlie and Lola” along with any books by “Leo Lionni” were definitely on her little bookshelf for the paper cut out visuals alone

She 100% watched LPS videos on early YouTube, LPS popular was definitely a core memory for her.

She has a great love of music, but her general style that she’d grow into would be more influenced by grunge and punk specifically. But i know in my heart of hearts she loved Avril Lavigne.

I think she would have been really interested in creepypasta, however more from a writing aspect as she really wanted to make her own. She definitely has a stack of notebooks with hundreds of attempted and forgotten stories. She definitely scribbled the proxy symbol on things she had thinking she was super cool and epic.

She also has a soft spot for Godzilla movies but it’s not as crazy as the other interests.

Huge into fanfics tho, absolutely obsessed with them. She also obviously had an anime phase, you know the one, when you refuse to watch anything but anime for a while? Unironically she would adore Oran high school host club, she’d make a full fanfic about Ritsu getting with Haru instead of Tamaki.

Anime Lusamine isn't really a villain, just kinda neglectful/oblivious due to work and being focused on her UB research, but still counting her anyway for her game counterpart. (After playing thru SM where she was a total bitch to Lillie, it was a whiplash that she was toned down that much.)

I like all three of the dub voices, but Masters again has the best pick. There's some condescending "kindness" there in a few of her lines that really shows thru more there. They really keep knocking it outta the park there with the VAs they choose. 😅

I don't think I can ever write for Ghetsis because half his dialogue is stuff that actually deeply upsets me, and I can't like him ever because of how he treated N (whom I've loved since I was like 9).

I have similar reasons for Lusamine and how she treats Lillie and Gladion, too, actually. (I know the anime fixed her or something, but how she acted in SM is forever ingrained into my mind.)

Sada and Turo can pass because they did actually love Arven even if they were shit at parenting. Giovanni for similar reasons. He does love Silver in my mind; he's just a yakuza and thus sucks at being a parent.

Every other villain is okay because they're either too funny to take seriously or just have enough backstory for me to work with.

Important Context: Lusamine in Sun and Moon was canonically, in the text of the game itself, infected with alien neurotoxins that removed her inhibitions and amplified her character flaws.

Once they were flushed from her system, she immediately stopped verbally abusing her daughter, and Lillie even took her to Kanto to try and get medical treatment from fusing with Nihilego.

Lillie does not, at any point, decide to cut Lusamine out of her life. Indeed, the final battle against Lusamine is the result of Lillie chasing her into another dimension to rescue her.

Lusamine in the anime is a loving-yet-neglectful/absent parent who Lillie somewhat resents due to said mother disregarding Lillie's own desires and feelings even as she otherwise dotes on her, with the two often butting heads. As Lusamine is a protagonist instead of an antagonist, a good chunk of her arc is based around repairing her relationships with her children. While she's still obsessed with the Ultra Beasts, it's nowhere NEAR the extent of her in-game counterpart, not until she ends up getting abducted by and fused with Nihilego, and her womanchild tendencies are cranked up to a disturbing level.

In Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Lusamine's abuse is FAR less severe, with her being more of an overprotective control freak than anything. with her being in opposition to the player because she believes she's good enough to defeat Necrozma. She's reimagined as a well-intentioned extremist who's trying to protect Alola from the game's ACTUAL main villain: Necrozma, with the conflict mostly boiling down to Lusamine being unwilling to admit that she's in over her head. The story is FAR weaker than Sun and Moon as a result.

Ah hm.

Yeah I think I like the original SM better. That sounds fascinating.

The anime kinda sounds like an AU where Lusamine gets some fucking help for the neurotoxins before the plot kicks off, but the plot still kicks off. So we're getting a post SM personality during the events of SM. (to compare, I'm kinda seeing this like what I did with Enji in the Amnesia!Dabi AU. He gets help earlier but the plot is still happening around him.)

USUM sounds like it just went off the rails.

I gotta say that Lillie's story in Pokemon Sun and Moon anime probably has become my favorite out of all of Ash's traveling companions, yes even Iris.

I just finished the arc where Lillie, Gladion, and the rest of the Alola gang save Lusamine from Nihilego (if that's how you spell it idk) and I was very invested into the storylines. I was rooting for everyone to save Lusamine since she seems like she legitimately loves her children in the anime. It was also pretty adorable when Lillie completely got over her phobia of touching pokemon and she got down on the ground, called Snowy (her Alolan Vulpix), Pikachu, and some other pokemon and gave them all a big hug and nuzzled them. I will admit that before watching any SM, I thought Lillie was overrated and somewhat whiny, now my opinion on her has completely changed and I think she so far is one of the best written characters in the Pokemon Anime.

Side note: In the episode where Professor Kukui and Professor Burnett get married, I found it adorable when they were prounonced Husband and Wife and Lana and Mallow cheered while Jumping up and down and hugging each other. Those girls are bestie goals!! I also found it funny how dramatic Faba is while apologizing to everyone after the whole incident, so much so that when he gets demoted by Lusamine, he fully accepts his new demotion. Completely unlike his past character lol.

Sending my evil influence to give you the floor to say why you hate USUM

okay so i do want to give a disclaimer that i haven't beaten either sm or usum since they released. i feel like my memory on them is still good enough to say my piece but just keep in mind that i may be wrong about some details and i can own up to that if i am.

since we're talking about sm and usum cw for parental abuse towards children

okay i will say upfront that i do think in terms of gameplay i fully admit that usum is superior. a lot of the stuff it added doesn't really apply to me (i only use pokemon that were introduced in that generation so usum's expanded pokedex is for the most part meaningless to me, and it kinda annoyed me how i was forced to play mantine surf to get to akala when i just wanted to get there immediately). the options are still nice to have, they just didn't add much to my personal experience, which is why i'm mostly coming at this from a story perspective. the ultra wormhole stuff was fucking awesome though i loved that.

so: sm. while i wouldn't say its depiction of abuse was perfect (lusamine was forgiven way too easily imo) i still appreciate the way it came at it. the nihilego poison was a reason behind lusamine's actions, but it didn't excuse them. lillie still got to give her amazing speech to her mother about how children aren't just dolls and gladion is a little more on the fence about it iirc, so there were at least still some repercussions for lusamine in that regard. it's a story that hit very hard at the time of release because while my mom isn't abusive, our relationship was very rocky when i was 16, so sm was very cathartic for me. i'd imagine it'd still resonate deeply with me to this day if i were to replay it even though our relationship has improved since then.

so the tldr of that is that sm had a slightly flawed but still brilliant portrayal of familial abuse that blended in very well with the overall theme of different family dynamics (also shown through guzma/team skull in general, hau and his grandfather, etc.)

so usum just completely shat all over that with how they handled the aether family.

it's like genuinely pretty offensive to me with how lusamine's abuse was portrayed here. she's not under any sort of influence because of nihilego here, she's just naturally very nasty and cruel to her children. lillie doesn't get to give her her speech and gladion literally says something along the lines of "she's not so bad because she's our mother." LIKE WHAT!!!!!! you take away the understandable (but not justifiable) reasoning as to why she was cruel in sm so that she's just always horrible and then take away the few repercussions she faces to have her be excused entirely??? this just feels like abuse apologism. it leaves such an icky taste in my mouth. and derailing into the anime for a quick second here, that also had a weird portrayal of lusamine too. i wouldn't say it was as bad as it is in usum, since it did ultimately stick closer to sm, but it was just sort of weird with them making lusamine's main issue be that she's just sort of overbearing and making faba into the real villain (who also gets let off with a slap on the wrist despite being responsible for the trauma lillie held on to for years).

like that's the main reason why i can't go back to usum over sm. i just feel gross playing it.

and to be fair, this game did do guzma and hau better in terms of writing, but why did it have to portray the aether family in that way as well. i don't even really remember what they did with hau aside from making him the final battle (and tbh i felt like kukui was still a better final boss. i like hau, but the "rival as a champion" thing was done much more effectively in the kanto games imo.)

also rainbow rocket was dumb and cringe and i never even bothered finishing it. to this day (aside from bdsp because i didn't play that) it's the only postgame pokemon story i haven't beaten. i tolerated fucking sordward and sheilbert but not this. also i heard that ghetsis physically shoves lillie to the ground in his section and i genuinely need him to die for it. and worst of all they took hot archie away from us 😔

like i won't deny that usum added a lot of neat features and sidequests that made alola feel more alive (and i already loved alola in sm) but i cannot for the life of me get past how gross the story makes me feel.

aahhh thank you sm for liking them!! they’re very much my beloveds [also yes it is very aggravating you can’t send asks from sideblogs but that’s another time]

this is my actually decent first attempt at a half-body design for mockingbird! and if you're wondering yes that is boo perched on her

Mockingbird is GREAT at mimicking bird calls [obviously like her namesake] and it’s a little quirk she picked up from living upriver since there were so many more birds at her old port.

She also has very extensive albeit pretty useless knowledge about all sorts of animals, whether they be land, air, or water.

Mockingbird is biromantic! She likes guys and gals.

She’s taught Boo a few basic words like hello, friend, bye, and trouble. He’s been trained to come back repeating “Trouble, trouble!” whenever he spots something wrong, like a ship needing help and similar situations.

She's VERY quick to defend Sea Rogue whenever anyone tries to bring up the pirate situation upriver since word of it got there. Hell no is anyone gonna try to accuse her older brother of being an actual damn pirate. [i do want to do a post ab this in the future hehe]

Boo is also very fond of bringing Mockingbird trinkets, making a neat little pile at the top of her dock that is specifically off limits for workers who clean her off every now and then.

Contrary to popular belief, Boo doesn't only hang out with Mockingbird [even though he does a majority of the time] and actually will hang out with Zebedee too, as he's the only one of the Z-Stacks that doesn't flip out when he lands on them [besides zos of course, she doesn't really care].

Boo also has a weird feud with Top Hat since the railway tug really doesn't like birds, but he knows better than to make a snide remark about the crow whenever Mockingbird's around otherwise he'll definitely get an earful. [or whatever the tug equivalent of ears are]

In more general headcanons, here's what I imagine both Mockingbird and Zosteria's voices to sound like!

While Zosteria does look pretty intimidating and it can be a little difficult getting close to her since she's so tough-shelled, once she lets her walls down a bit she's a great listener and gives pretty good advice.

She definitely has a soft spot for younger tugs and tries to look out for their well-being, even from afar.

One rule of thumb that you should always remember when you're around Zos is to never try to wake her up after a long day unless it's absolutely necessary. Because you'll have a considerately grouchier and angrier Zosteria on your hands, which is is not a very fun time.

Although she'll never admit it aloud, Zosteria has a big soft spot for dogs. She's the one that pushed [well, more so forced] Captain Zero into giving food scraps to the small packs of stray dogs that live around and in Bigg City Port, and she secretly hopes one of them will imprint on her hard-shelled captain one day. One day!

She has a very sarcastic and dry sense of humor which is very true to the current situation of the 1920s/1930s.

Zos doesn't really tell the story of her scar that often because it's source is actually pretty stupid, and she finds it funny listening to boats come up with some WILD ways she got it.

Zosteria is very AroAce. No romantic or sexual relationships for her, the only ones important to her are platonic ones.

Though it might not seem like it from first glance, Zosteria has many, many stories she's willing to tell to those who want to listen.

I didn't mention this on Zos's main bio but she also considers Lillie as a decently close friend. Zosteria and Hercules are the main ships Lillie sees from her point at Dem Der Rocks, and it's always nice to just meet up there and talk whenever they want a little bit more time away from their fleets. [although Zosteria is always quick to skedaddle whenever Lillie and Hercules want to be alone with each other]

Something else I also forgot to mention is that Zosteria and Zip are supposed to be a reflection of Hercules and Ten Cents, mostly because I love the younger switcher sibling looking up to their older ocean tug sibling VERY much.

i'll probably make more as i develop them [and hopefully others!] more, but that's all i got for now :)

"So Lusamine and Mohn are a pair of married scientists researching Ultra Wormholes and then Mohn gets sucked into one. Not great. Lusamine does not react well, and becomes obsessed with Ultra Beasts in order to find him again but in the process she starts mistreating her kids. Like she forced Lillie to dress like fuckin Nihilego. Anyway Gladion eventually steals the Aether foundation’s Type:Null and runs away. Then Lillie steals Cosmog (Nebby) and runs away. This leads to them meeting the player and the plot of the games. Also Mohn’s still in Alola he has amnesia and he’s running the bean minigame where you feed your pokemon beans. Depending on what version you’re looking at they get various endings. In the original SM games Lusamine is knocked into a coma after being possessed by Nihilego and Lillie takes her to Kanto for treatment bc she’s still her mom. Same in the manga. In the Ultra games Lusamine kinda redeems herself and she finds Mohn again but chooses to not tell him who he is because he’s happier with amnesia. I haven’t been keeping with the anime but iirc Lusamine’s nicer there and they do find Mohn again."

What's something you'd like everyone to know about your AU, if they're not very familiar with it yet?

Hey there anon! Oh that's a great and very tough question tbh. There's a lot I'd love for someone who is not familiar with cactusverse to know. But if I had to distill it down to like three things

It's a gameverse AU: Are there some elements borrowed from the anime and manga, absolutely. But the characters and plot all stem from the main games. There is a little bit of mixing of the game plots, such as Hoenn being the Emerald plot but with the Delta Episode and Zinnia, the USUM events (Ultra Necrozma and Rainbow Rocket) being sequels to the SM events, and Naranja and Uva academy existing in Paldea at the same time (as well as both future and past paradoxes).

The real big canon change in Cactusverse is the Aura Power: I really love the concept of Aura and much of the changes to the canon involve me giving aura powers to a lot more people. In cactusverse about the same amount of people in the world who are left-handed (12%) may have some level of aura power. That being said Aura Guardians are still very rare in Cactusverse. It takes a lot of time and energy to become a fully realized aura guardian (someone who can utilize aura powers to their fullest extent) and most people in the modern day do not have the time or mental capacity to try. So expect a lot of your favorite canon characters to potentially be able to sense aura or have a strong aura.

First off is HRH Jack, the Duke of Stow-On-Side. As a member of the royal family of Galar he was sent of to Paldea to train at a young age where he became a champion rank trainer. He then returned to Galar to complete his aura guardian training. Jack has always had a deep ambition to restore the absolute monarchy of Galar and become king of the region. Despite being born with a silver spoon in his mouth he had an extremely strong work ethic unheard of amongst aristocrats. This allowed him to eventually become champion of Galar once Peony left the position due to Rose becoming chairman. Jack's specialty with his aura powers is shadowification. Due to his obsession with being king of Galar and feeling that the title of champion was his ticket to re-establishing the monarchy, he shadowified his own team in order to maintain power. He also tried to kill Opal and Leon and threatened to kill Sonia, Hop and Gordie.

Jack has a crass brazen attitude that proved popular with the Galar population prior to his defeat and revelation of his murder attempts.

This is Māhealani Kapule (Marsha to the colonizers), the first ever champion of the Alola Region. Born in Koni-Koni City as a military brat, she eventually moved to Kanto due to her father's military requirements. Despite showing a strong potential as a trainer from a young age, she refused to take part of the Indigo League gym challenge as she wished to complete her birthright as an Alolan by doing the Island Challenge. To pass the time in Kanto she picked up both cheerleading and martial arts.

Just before her 17th birthday her dad was honorably discharged from the military and the family made plans to move back to Alola. Māhealani was able to finally do her island challenge uninterrupted- oh wait no, just kidding she got dragged into the Aether family plot much to her complete chagrin. Still her father's words of "Never leave a soldier behind" rung through her head as she unwittingly became a big sis to Lillie, Gladion and Hau

Māhealani can come off a bit abrasive to some but she has a kind heart and cares deeply for the people and Pokemon of Alola. Her time as champion however has left her with a deep seated fear of ultra beasts and ultra space. She enjoys Mantine Surfing, Malasadas and taking photos with her Rotom Dex.

Now we have Calla Okoro! This baby genius has a love of Poison Types thanks to being accidentally poisoned by a Budew in her mum's backyard when she was young. Rather than gain a fear of the type she decided to learn more about them. Realizing the negative impact perception many poison types had, Calla resolved to make it her life's mission to improve the reputation of poison types. At the young age of 8 she went to college and got Biochemistry degree.

However realizing that her home region of Galar was obsessed with battling and finding out that poison types were considered to be weak she then resolved to prove everyone wrong by entering the gym challenge with her best buddy Hop. It was an uphill battle for her as she contended with back to back losses against Kabu and Bea but over time she gained her footing not only helping to save Galar from the Darkest Day but being the first person to defeat Leon in an official match. She continues to make it her goal to educate the world about poison types with her battle prowess and gymnastic skills!

Calla is exceedingly intelligent but a little one track minded when it comes to poison types and improving their reputation. She's very extroverted and enjoys trying all of the sweets around Galar and the world

Last but not least we have Dr. Cami Oak (for the record she is my self-insert trainersona). Born to a working class family in Nacrene City, Unova, Cami's had to work hard to obtain her dreams that were often out of reach for people of her social class. Like many young kids she went out on a journey to collect gym badges. While she managed to collect three badges she ultimately failed her gym challenge due to a severe asthma exacerbation on the desert of Route 4 and her own fear of bug types keeping her from progressing in Burgh's gym.

She would eventually turn her attention to higher education going to university in STEM ultimately gaining a chance to study abroad in Kalos under Professor Sycamore where she would meet Blue Oak who was also studying abroad. The two would become fast friends and helped to motivate each other during a time of uncertainty with Cami encouraging Blue to graduate from being a gym leader, and Blue encouraging Cami to go back and try to finish her gym challenge. Taking his advice Cami would return to Unova and not only gain all 8 badges, but become the champion of the Unova league. However her reign was cut short due to her falling into a severe depression after the untimely death of her older sister forcing her to resign as she felt she couldn't handle being the champion in the region in her current mental state. This action would lead to Alder taking the mantle and unfortunately allowing Team Plasma to make their moves

While the pain of loss never fully leaves, Cami was slowly able to heal and would be accepted into medical school in Alola. There she would reunite with Blue who was recently appointed as a co-head of the Battle Tree. Their friendship would soon blossom into love and the two would marry have and later have twins: Ayanna and Aiden Oak.

Cami is quite reserved, anxious and a loner. However to the people she calls friends she can be quite cheeky and the loyal friend who picks you up from the airport and stays with you in the hospital. A huge foodie, published poet and track athlete, Cami owns a blog where she answers people's questions about how to best take care of their health as a trainer.
