Did someone say mermaids?
@taznovembercelebration Ocean or dirt
-
Not too far off the coast, a boat belonging to the Institute of Marine Research and Conservation (IMRC, if you will), lazily makes it's way through the water. Davenport is manning the helm, Lucretia's keeping an eye and ear on cameras and sensors, and Lup and Barry are watching the water for anything to break the surface.
Their use of the boat isn't entirely kosher, though. The mission they're on would get them laughed out of the room if they tried to propose it. But Davenport can pull rank and get a boat outside of work hours whenever he wants, as long as it comes back in one piece.
Lup perks up from where she was leaning against the railing around the deck. "Bear," she puts a hand on his arm, "do you hear that?"
He pauses and tries to listen past the sound of the boat and the water. "Yeah," he says, "I do."
Coming from a small cave, they can hear a high-pitched wail, like a baby's cry. Davenport steers the boat to the entrance, close enough to peer in, and all of them feel their breath catch.
The cave is a semicircle, with a few feet of a flat rock floor around the edge, the water in the middle laps up onto it as waves come and go.
Lying on that flat rock, is a mermaid. The fin of her deep orange tail is still in the water, she has more orange fins on her back and forearms, webbed fingers, and gills on her neck. She has a series of bleeding wounds on her side and back, her breathing is laboured and her eyes are closed. In her arms is a wailing human baby, wearing a seashell necklace.
Lup carefully jumps out of the boat. The mermaid's eyes snap open and meet Lup's. Lup holds her hands out to try and placate her. "I'm not going to hurt you," she says, "I want to help." She approaches slowly, and the mermaid draws her baby closer into her chest, and it's cries calm to quiet whimpers. She looks scared, and desperate. Lup stops where she is, and kneels to be closer to her level. "Did a human do this to you?"
The mermaid digests this question, then shakes her head. The movement is lethargic. "My own," she croaks.
"Other merfolk did this to you?"
The mermaid nods. Lup bites her lip as she debates her next question. "Where..." she hesitates, "where did the baby come from?" She hopes the mermaid doesn't take it as an accusation, but the baby looks human. She has to ask.
The mermaid looks down to the baby, then, with what looks like a lot of effort, she twists and leans towards the water. She scoops some up in her hand and pours it over the child. With a small shimmer, the baby transforms to have a bright pink tail and fins. "Mine," the mermaid says, laying her head back down on the stone and closing her eyes, "but illegitimate. That's why... this."
Lup picks her jaw up off the floor and says, "they did this to you because... you had an illegitimate child?"
She nods, her movements slowing even more. She opens her eyes and looks up at Lup. They ponder each other in silence for a few moments, then the mermaid pushes the baby in Lup's direction. "Safe," she whispers.
Lup's taken aback. "What?"
"Keep safe, with humans. Merfolk stay away from shore. I return to the depths for eternal sleep."
"No," she finally comes right up to the mermaid, "no, I'm not letting you die." She twists to call back to the boat, "Bear! Bring-"
"Shhh," the mermaid hushes her, putting a hand on her arm, coaxing her to turn back towards her. "Time is up," she whispers, her eyes lidded. She lowers her hand to rest on the baby's chest. "Take her," she says. Hesitantly, with shaking hands, Lup takes the small mermaid into her arms. The mermaid keeps her hand on the baby and says, "keep safe. Let swim, but keep close to shore. Sea is in her blood."
"I will," Lup says, "I promise."
The mermaid smiles, and her eyes flutter shut. Her hand falls to the ground, and her whole body starts to shimmer. Moments later, all that's left is seafoam. Water laps up over the edge of the stone floor and starts to carry it away. Lup looks at the baby in her arms. The water her mother put on her dries up, and her tail shimmers and disappears. She looks up at Lup with big curious eyes. "I'm so sorry, baby," Lup says, her voice wavering, "I wish I could've done more."
The baby eats her fist and whines. Lup kisses her forehead. "Come on, you're probably cold."
She stands and walks back to the boat, where Barry, Davenport, and Lucretia are all waiting for her with teary eyes. Lup climbs up with the baby, and is handed a towel that she wraps around her. "We'll have to, um," she sniffs and wipes under one of her eyes, "call Kravitz. He can probably get us a- a birth certificate. And stuff."
"Maybe you should sit down, babe," Barry says.
She lets him guide her into a seat. "I should've asked for her name. Both of their names. Now she'll have some- some human name we come up with, and I won't be able to tell her her original name. Or her mother's name. Fuck." Her vision is blurry. She blinks, and she feels tears roll down her cheeks. "Shit."
Barry crouches in front of her, "maybe someone else should hold her for a minute."
"No." Lup holds her closer. "I can hold her." She looks down at her little face as she starts to settle into her embrace. Lup feels her lip quiver and she shakes her head, "this wasn't how I wanted to make this discovery."
"I know," Barry brushes away some of her tears, "but there's nothing we can do about it anymore. We don't even know if we could've saved the mother." He stands and kisses her forehead. "But we can keep the baby safe. She'll grow up happy and healthy and loved."
Lup nods. She looks out over the water as Davenport drives them back home. She wonders how far out the merfolk are. If they're still looking for the woman and her baby. She wonders how long they'll search.
She looks back down to the baby, and notices the seashell necklace again. It's almost comically big, sitting against her little chest. She turns it over and inscribed carefully on the back in neat, swirling letters, is the name Lilliana.
Lup smiles softly and looks at the baby's face. "Hi, Lilli," she says, "I'm going to take real good care of you."

The fates of @taznovembercelebration gave me permission to write my parent blupjeans propaganda
Day 2: baby
Lup comes in for work after the winter break and meets a new kid.
Read on AO3
First day back from the winter holidays, and Lup's running late. Every year there's a blizzard, and every year the entire bus system goes to shit. She left two hours early, but still runs into the daycare an hour late. She apologises profusely to her manager, but she waves her off. With the weather, they aren't nearly as hectic as they usually are in the mornings. Most of the kids are late or at home.
Lup puts her stuff away and sheds her outer layers. She observes the room of children, trying to decide where to start. There's not even ten of them. She's about to start towards a small group colouring together when a shrill scream rings out. She looks and sees a little girl she doesn't know in the corner. She's clutching a teddy bear and sobbing as one of the four year olds stomps away.
She walks over and crouches in front of the crying girl. "Hey hun, what happened?"
"He's b'oken," she sobs, holding out the bear. One of its arms is half torn off.
"Oh no," the bear has a blue ribbon tied around its neck with a plastic tag attached, identifying it as a toy from home. The tag is flipped the wrong way, so she can't see the girl's name. "That's really sad, huh?"
The girl presses the bear to her face and nods, big tears rolling down her cheeks.
"Can I see him?"
She clutches the bear tighter and eyes Lup suspiciously. "Why?"
"I want to see how hurt he is. I might be able to fix him."
Her eyes widen, "really?"
"Sure, I think he just needs stitches. Do you want to walk to the front desk with me?" They've got a small sewing kit in one of the drawers for this exact reason.
Lup takes the girl's hand and brings her to the front of the room. She crouches in front of her again and says, "can I see your friend now? I promise I'll take really good care of him."
She hesitates for a second. "He's scared."
"Oh yeah?"
"He's never been in the big kid room before."
"I see," Lup says, very seriously. She must have turned three over the break and been moved up to this room. Explains why she's never seen her before. "How about I fix his arm, and then I can help you show him how much fun the big kid room can be?"
After taking a moment to deeply think this over, she hands the bear over with the most care Lup's ever seen in a toddler.
Upon inspection, the tear isn't that bad. Maybe an inch long and exactly on the seam, it's an easy fix. When she's done, she ties off the thread and snips away the excess. "There," she says, smoothing her thumb over the seam, "all better."
"Can I see?"
"Sure." She hands the bear down and says, "it's like it never happened."
The girl beams and hugs the bear tight. "Thank you Miss… uh… um…"
"Lup."
"Oh!" She perks up. "Like daddy's friend!"
"...what?"
"Lup, like daddy's friend."
Well. The only Lup she's ever met is herself, and as far as she knows none of her friends have kids. She gets on the girl's level and says, "who's your dad?"
She cocks her head to the side. "He's daddy."
To make this whole conversation shorter, Lup reaches out and flips the tag around the bear's neck. In the same slanted, scratchy handwriting she sees in the notebook next to hers every Friday night at DnD is written, Lilliana Bluejeans.
"Well would you look at that," she says, "I do know your dad."
Lilliana smiles and yeah. She sees it now. She could recognise that smile from down the street.
"Can I be your friend too?" Lup asks.
Lilli seems like she's vibrating with excitement, "yeah!"
Around 5:30, Lilli's name gets called and she bolts up from where Lup was reading her a book. Lup follows, grabbing Lilli's little coat and backpack from her cubby. She leans against the front desk, but Barry doesn't notice her. He's crouched to Lilli's level as she talks his ear off.
"-but then Lup came an' fixed him an' we played all day!"
His brow furrows the same way as when he's trying to solve a puzzle.
"Hey stranger," Lup says.
He looks up, surprised. "Lup!" He stands. "I didn't know you worked here."
"And I didn't know you had the cutest kid in the city." She holds out Lilli's coat.
He takes it. "Have I never mentioned that?" He helps her put it on. "I swear I have."
"Nope. I would've remembered a thing like that."
"Well," he lifts Lilli into his arms, "that's an oversight on my part." He looks at Lilli, "what do you say?"
"Thank you Miss Lup! See you tomorrow!"
Lup laughs and hands Barry the little backpack. "I'll see you tomorrow, punkin."
He smiles at her and Lup's heart melts. He walks out and she rests her head in her hand as she watches them go.
"Oh, you've got it bad." One of her coworkers says from behind her.
She goes scarlet and whips around to face them. "No I don't! Shut up!"
"Miss Lup you can't say shut up," a nearby kid says.
Her coworker snickers. Lup signs and runs her hands over her face. The worst part is that they're right. She has it so bad. And this changes absolutely nothing. If anything it makes it worse.
She's fucked.

Kravitz is the fun uncle but no one knows except him
read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/3b8KdZp
by fandomsnstuff
“I’m going to be the fun uncle,” Taako says, not for the first time. “She’s going to love hanging out with me because it’ll always be so much fun, and I’m going to be her favourite.”
When Lilliana is born, obviously there’s not much Taako can do quite yet to earn the “Fun Uncle” title. But once she gets old enough for that title to actually go to someone… well… Taako doesn’t quite hit the mark, in all honesty.
Sure, maybe he’ll give her a cookie in the middle of the afternoon, or let her have a little more dessert than usual, but when push comes to shove, Taako’s a stickler for the rules set out for her. She only gets one or two special treats, no constant flow of cookies and candy and other goodies. No snacks past 7 o’clock, and she’s in bed by 7:30 sharp.
Lilliana adores her uncle Taako, but for all intents and purposes, he’s kind of like another parent who is maybe just a little more lenient with his cookie stash. Not quite fun uncle material.
Now Kravitz, on the other hand…

Don't @ me about it being too early for soft snowy vibes let me have this
@taznovembercelebration Chilly or cozy
-
Say what you want about feminism and equality, but Barry would rather die than make his girls shovel snow. Every year they offer, and every year he insists he's fine. This is why he only keeps one shovel in the garage.
It's the night of Christmas Eve, the snowfall is the perfect balance not too light and not too heavy, but he wants to clear out the driveway at least once before bed. Like always, Lup and Lilli offered to help. But he's not going to make Lilli shovel snow right before her birthday, and Lup should stay inside with her next to the fire. Enjoy the serenity that comes with this kind of snow.
His cheeks and nose are cold, and he's kinda wishing he'd put on snow pants or something, but it's not unbearable. The sound of plastic against asphalt is almost calming. He's bathed in warm light from his living room window, and the strings of colourful lights all down the street are at their prettiest in the dark. The only thing this night is missing is sleigh bells ringing down from the sky.
Soon enough, the driveway is cleared of most of the snow. A thin layer has already built up again where he started, but that's a problem for later. He stomps his boots off at the welcome mat, and shakes off the snow that's collected on his coat. When he opens the door, the smell of chocolate wafts over him.
"Did you make hot chocolate?" He says, kicking off his boots and shedding his layers.
Lup comes over an hands him a mug piled high with whipped cream and dusted with cinnamon. "Just for you," she says, kissing his cheek.
He walks into the living room and sees Lilli on the couch with a blanket over her lap and a mug of her own. She has a whipped cream moustache. Barry smiles, "you're a mess, kid."
She grins and licks the moustache off. Barry sits next to her, and soon after Lup joins on his other side with her own hot chocolate. A cheesy Hallmark movie plays on the tv, and a fire crackles in the fireplace, warming him.
T'was the night before Christmas and all that.

Writing is hard, this is all i got
@taznovembercelebration cat or baby
-
When Barry walked into his house after being away for a week on a mission, there were a few things he expected. A kiss from his wife, a hug from his daughter, maybe even a warm home cooked meal. What he came home to instead was a grey kitten screaming with all the air in its tiny lungs and two very tired looking family members on the floor with it.
"What's going on here?"
"We found a kitten," Lilliana says, nudging a little syringe into said kitten's mouth, quieting it.
"I could hear it crying," Lup says, her elbow up on the couch cushion and her head propped against her hand. "I thought it was a baby, honestly. It was driving me nuts, we tore the house apart trying to figure out where it was coming from. Eventually we found mom and babies underneath the deck, this little guy was the only one still going."
"I cried," Lilli says bluntly, "a lot."
"So we have a cat now," Barry says.
Lilli puts the syringe aside and cradles the kitten to her chest, "I have a cat now."
Lup leans her head back to look up at him, "I said we'd help with expenses and kitten stuff, but if she wanted to keep him, she has to take care of him."

Lilliana Bluejeans is a badass. She’s a skilled ranger with flawless aim, she dabbles in wizard magic, bard magic, and melee fighting.
She’s also out of spell slots. She’s down both her party members and most of her hit points. She’s got no arrows left in her quiver, her sword was torn from her hand and tossed across the room, and, again, she’s out of spell slots, so her wand is useless.
She is, as some would say, fucked.
~
Lilliana gets thrown violently against a wall by a wave of force. Her assailants, three warlocks, power-drunk from their freshly-made, high-level pact, laugh as she crumples to the ground. She struggles, pushing herself up to sit and lean against the wall. She blinks the spots from her vision, willing herself to stay conscious.
She can’t win this one, and that scares her. She’s been in scrapes before, but she’s always known she could win. Her opponents have always been just as messed up as her, and she knew she had a chance. This is different. She’s hurt, badly. One more hit and she’s a goner, unconscious with no one else to fight for her.
The warlocks know it too, and they aren’t even close to dead. They’d taken out those two mercenaries she’d run into in no time at all, and have spent the last however-long just hacking away at her, wearing her down until she couldn’t fight back anymore.
Lilliana leans heavily against the wall behind her, trying to catch her breath. The warlocks chatter excitedly, trying to decide amongst themselves the best spell to use to finish her off.
As they’re distracted, Lilliana slips her hand into her bag, rifling around blindly, keeping her eyes on the warlocks, until she feels her stone of farspeech. She pulls it out, and calls her most recent contact.
“Hello?”
“I need backup,” she whispers.
“What?”
“I need-”
“Hey!” One of the warlocks shouts, and Lilliana’s stone falls from her hand as magic lifts her off the ground and shoves her up against the wall. “What do you think you’re doing?!”
“Kravitz!” Lilliana screams, loud enough for the stone on the ground to hear, “Kravitz I need backup! I need help! I-”
Lilliana’s cut off as the magic holding her squeezes around her neck. The warlock controlling it laughs and approaches her as she struggles weakly against his hold.
“You think there’s time for your backup to get here? We’ve got you beat. We take one more shot at you, and you’re done.” He grins wickedly, and the magic choking her tightens. “You know boys,” he says to his compatriots, “I wonder how long a half-elf can hold their breath.”
Lilliana’s chest burns, and spots dot her vision. She tries to grab hold of the magic around her neck, to lessen the pressure that’s cutting her airway off, but her hands grasp at nothing. She’s losing her grip on her consciousness when, suddenly, she’s dropped back to the ground.
She gasps at the release of pressure from her neck. She breathes deeply, her consciousness no longer slipping away. Then she looks up and sees, floating between her and the warlocks, its back to her, a figure in a black robe with a scythe held in its skeletal hand.
“What the fuck?” The warlock that had been holding her says. “Who-”
He doesn’t get to finish his sentence as Kravitz swings his scythe, tearing out the warlock’s soul, his body dropping unceremoniously to the floor. The other two warlocks cry out in protest. They throw spells at Kravitz, but they fizzle and die without affecting him at all.
“Who are you?!” One of the remaining warlocks cries. “What do you want with us?”
Kravitz doesn’t give him the satisfaction of an answer. He swings his scythe again, and the second warlock falls.
The third warlock is backed fully against the wall opposite the one Lilliana is sitting against. He looks up at Kravitz as he looms over him.
“Please,” the warlock begs, “have mercy. I’ll do anything. Wh- what do you want? Money? Power?”
Kravitz’s grip tightens around his scythe as he raises it. The warlock’s mouth opens in a scream, but he’s dead before the sound can leave him.
Lilliana’s head is pounding and her heart is racing as she watches this, as the body of each warlock falls to the ground with a dull thud.
She’s seen Kravitz fight before. She knows his moves. He never swings first. He always has a snarky response to the inevitable “Who are you? What do you want?” questions. When his targets start bargaining, Kravitz always gets something out of it. “No use saying no to free stuff,” he would say.
But here… Kravitz swung first. He didn’t talk, didn’t let them bargain at all. He showed up, and he killed them. End of story.
Lilliana realizes that when she’s seen Kravitz fight, he’s been holding back. He gives his targets a chance. A chance to repent or fight or come peacefully. He plays games with them. He makes deals and takes bribes, yet he could kill any of them in half a second if he chose to.
Sure, she expected him to come and kill the warlocks, but he was ruthless and brutal about it, a Reaper in a way that Lilliana’s never seen before.
Kravitz turns to look at her after killing the third warlock, the eyes of his skeletal form burning with fury, and Lilliana’s scared.

Context: these are two little pieces for what I call “canon compliant single dad Barry” and all you need to know is that Lilliana is Barry’s teenage daughter and he’s raised her on his own up to this point.
It’s the launch day for the IPRE Starblaster. A storm hangs overhead and a nervous energy buzzes through the small crowd gathered for this historic moment. Among them, Barry Bluejeans holds his daughter, Lilliana, in a tight hug.
“Okay,” he says, stepping back and taking both of her hands in his, “remember that the neighbours said that you can go to them if you need anything. Don’t stay up late all the time, and make sure to eat properly. There’s lots of food in the freezer, but you have my credit card if you need something, but don’t go crazy-”
“I know, papa.” She smiles and squeezes his hands. “I’m going to be okay.”
Barry pulls her back into his arms. “Two months,” he says quietly.
“Two months,” Lilliana says by way of response, resting her head on his shoulder.
An authoritative shout rings out, calling for the crew to board the ship. Both father and daughter’s heads lift to look towards the source.
“Wait,” Lilliana says, stepping out of the hug and digging into her jacket pocket. “I know you’ve already got a few pictures, but I bought this for you, to remind you of me.”
Barry looks at what she puts into his hand. It’s a button in the shape of a heart and made of blue denim. He smiles and cups her cheek. “I don’t need pins and pictures to remind me of you,” he says, “but thank you.”
The shout rings out again. Barry presses a quick kiss to Lilliana’s forehead, then starts walking backwards towards the ship. “Be good,” he calls out towards her, “behave yourself! I love you! Two months!”
“I love you too! Two months!” She says, waving at him as he finally turns and boards the ship.
“Cute kid,” Lup says from where she’s leaning casually against the guardrail with Taako.
“Yeah,” Barry says, running his thumb idly over the denim heart in his hand, “she’s pretty great.”
The ship starts lifting off the ground, and Barry looks over the guardrail as it does. Lilliana waves at him when she sees him, he grins and waves back. She shoots him two thumbs up as the ship gets higher and higher, and soon enough he can’t see her anymore.
They fly up, through the sky and into the stars, and that’s when they see it. The darkness. Its black inky tendrils reach into their world, doing God knows what. The Institute is offline, and Davenport steers the ship to take them away. They’re all torn apart, into a thousand versions of themselves…
And then they’re back.
They’re all in one piece, the darkness is gone, and they’re flying towards a normal planar system. But as Davenport lowers the ship into the Prime Material Plane, and the seven of them realize that this is not the world they left, Barry’s hand clenches tightly around the bluejean heart that he holds, and he feels his world shatter.
Cycle 38
“It was just like-” Barry grunts as he grabs Lup’s forearm and pulls her up and over the ledge they were just climbing- “it’s what was expected, you know? Go to university, get a girlfriend, graduate, get a job, get married.”
“I guess?” Lup and Barry stand and continue on their hike. “I just… I don’t know, I just don’t get how you could get married if you didn’t love her. I know it happens, but you’re so soft, Barry. You seem the type to be all about only getting married for love.”
Barry shrugs. “We’d been dating for a little while, I liked her, she liked me, marriage was the next logical step. My mom and her parents were constantly getting on our cases about it, so we figured, you know, why not?”
“Then you had a baby?”
“Not right away. It was just us for a few years, but after a while we were both… disinterested, I guess you could say. Life had fallen into a boring monotony. I’m all for routine, but we barely even talked anymore. Our dinner conversations were just nothing. Then, I don’t even know where the idea came from, but next thing we knew she was pregnant.”
Lup grins and bumps her shoulder against his. “A wild drunken night in the Bluejeans household, maybe?”
Barry laughs sheepishly, a blush creeping its way onto his cheeks. “A few too many drinks at a midsummer's party might have been a contributor.”
Lup bumps her shoulder against his again, softer this time. “Did you always want kids?”
“Not really,” Barry sticks his hands in his pockets, “when Lilli was on the way I was terrified, ‘cause I’d never actually thought about having kids before.”
“Never?”
“Well, not never, but I hadn’t thought about it much, and when I did I was just kind of meh about it, you know? I wasn’t particularly striving to have kids one day.”
“Buuut…” Lup prods encouragingly.
Barry chuckles. “But then my baby was born, and I heard her cry, and I got to hold her. She was so tiny and fragile, but such a solid weight in my arms and I…” his expression softens as he stares off into the distance, remembering a day long past, “I fell in love.”
Lup smiles, and lets Barry reminisce peacefully for a few moments as they walk, dirt crunching under their feet. “Then what happened?” She asks quietly.
Barry sighs, returning to the present, “I thought everything was fine. I was exhausted, sure, all new parents are, but I was also over the moon with happiness. I adored Lilliana, I loved holding her and taking care of her and just doing anything with her. Her mom wasn’t… quite as enthusiastic, but I just thought it was because she’d just, y’know, given birth.”
“That is, historically, a pretty difficult and taxing thing to do.”
Barry laughs lightly. “Yeah, so I didn’t think much of it, I did what I could to be there for her while also taking care of Lilli. And then…” Barry breathes out a long exhale, “Lilliana was about a year and a half when her mom told me that she didn’t want any of it anymore. The city, marriage, me, Lilli, she just wasn’t interested. She said she wanted to get a divorce, give up her parental rights, leave the city, and never look back.”
“That’s… brutal, Barry, I’m sorry.”
Barry waves a hand dismissively. “Don’t get too upset about it. She offered to pay child support, but I said no. I made enough on my own that I knew I’d be fine, and if she really wanted to cut all her ties, I wasn’t about to stop her.”
“Damn Barry, really? Weren’t you worried about Lilliana like… feeling abandoned or something?”
“It was a concern, but I’d rather have her grow up with just her father who loves her more than anything, than have her grow up with her mom and dad, when her mom is just disinterested in the whole thing. Plus, I’ve talked to her about it, especially as she’s gotten older and can understand everything.”
“Okay, so you got married, had, essentially, a ‘save the relationship’ baby, she left, then…”
“Then,” Barry ducks under a low-hanging tree branch, “my mom lived nearby, so I had her to help me for a while, especially before Lilli was in school. She passed away when Lilliana was 12, and from then it was just the two of us. I’m not perfect, but I’ve done my best to raise her and to let her know that she can tell me anything.”
“I bet you’re the best dad.”
“Well if my coffee mug is to be believed, then I sure am.”
Lup laughs, and the two of them continue to walk, their conversation moving on. It’s not until they reach a clearing and decide to settle down for the time being that Barry brings up kids again.
“What about you?” He asks.
Lup pulls a granola bar out of her bag and takes a bite. “What about me?” She asks through her mouthful of food.
Barry chuckles. “You ever thought about kids? You know, before all this.”
Lup blushes lightly. “Yeah, actually, I did.”
“And?”
“I- well-” she groans- “God, Barry, I adore them. They’re so cute and fun and funny, and maybe I’ve thought about having one or two or ten.”
Barry looks a little surprised, Lup doesn’t blame him. “Really?”
“Yeah, it’s like- I said to Taako once, when we were still on the road, working our way towards the Institute, I said, one day, Taako. One day we’re going to be successful and comfortable and we won’t have to worry about money or food or shelter ever again. Then I’m going to have a kid, or maybe a bunch of kids, and then I’m going to make sure they never have to worry about money or food or shelter like we did.”
Barry smiles. “That’s sweet.”
“Yeah, it’s just- I think it’s so cool, getting to… help this whole new person learn to navigate the world, you know? They’re… a blank slate. A fresh start. They have their whole life ahead of them and you get to be a part of it, and you get to love them and give them the tools they need to… to live that life.”

Other than his bounties, Kravitz hadn’t interacted with living people in a casual setting since he’d been alive himself. Taako assures him that he’s doing fine, that the others are already weird enough that they won’t even notice if he’s a little awkward, but Kravitz can’t help but worry.
After a while he finally feels as if he’s getting the hang of being among the living.
Which is, of course, when Barry and Lup make their big announcement. ~ “I wouldn’t be surprised if her first word is fuck.”
“No way,” Lup says, “her first word is going to be Mama. I can feel it.”
“What about me?” Barry says, “who’s to say her first word won’t be Dada?”
Taako laughs. “Hate to break it to you both, but her first word is going to be Taako, and that’s that on that.”
Lup balks at her brother. “And what makes you think you’re going to be her first word? You’re not the one who’s giving her life.”
“The power of being the favourite uncle is a strong one.”
“Alright, asshole, if you’re so sure, why don’t we make this interesting?”

38 for the prompts cause I need more lilliana content!
I’ll be honest with you, I did not actually expect anyone to respond to that prompt post, so the fact that you responded AND asked for Lilli made me VERY happy.
Prompt List
38. “I lost the baby.”
Read on AO3
Summary:
Magnus is babysitting Lup and Barry’s two-year-old.
At least, he’s supposed to be. He can’t exactly babysit a baby he can’t find.
He turned around for two seconds, and she vanished. After too long of not finding her, he calls in some reinforcements.
~
Magnus opens a random kitchen cupboard and peers in as the stone of farspeech in his hand rings. He closes the cupboard and opens another as the ringing on his stone stops and the person on the other end picks up.
“Hel-”
“I lost the baby.”
There’s a beat of silence as the person on the other end processes this information.
There’s laughter. “Of course you did.”
“Ango, I need you to come help me find her. I’ve been looking for a half hour now, and I’ve only got an hour before Lup and Barry are supposed to come pick her up.”
“She’s only two, Magnus. She can’t have gotten far.”
“I’ve looked everywhere!”
“Clearly not everywhere. How’d you even lose her?”
“I-” Magnus groans as another kitchen cupboard comes up empty- “I left her on the living room floor to go make lunch. When I turned back around, she was gone. I swear I’ve looked everywhere. Please, Ango, I need the world’s greatest detective.”
“I’m in Neverwinter, Magnus. I can’t get to Raven’s Roost quickly unless one of the Reapers-”
“Call Kravitz. He’s just as much of a disaster uncle as I am and we all know it. He won’t rat me out. Angus please.”
Angus sighs. “I won’t make any promises, but I’ll call Kravitz.”
“Thank you.”
Magnus hangs up, and does another loop around the house. He looks in every room, in every piece of furniture with a door, underneath and behind everything. He looks in the dog kennel in the backyard. All the dog watch him with interest as he looks in every corner, lifting up blankets and bed and toys. He still comes up empty.
He goes back to the house and is just about ready to panic when a rift opens up in his kitchen.
Angus and Kravitz step through it.
“Thank god you’re here,” Magnus says, breathless. “I’ve looked everywhere at least twice.”
“Don’t worry,” Kravitz says, “we’ve all been there.”
“Really?
Kravitz shrugs. “One time I forgot she could walk and she wandered off. I found her behind the shrubs in our front yard.”
“I don’t understand why they keep letting you babysit,” Angus says from the living room, looking over the last spot Lilliana had been seen.
“She was fine, she likes hanging out with me.”
Angus shakes his head. He pulls out his wand and pauses for a moment, casting a spell. “Okay,” he says, “she’s still on the property, so we don’t have to worry about that.”
Magnus breathes a sigh of relief.
Angus hums, tapping his wand against his chin, looking over the toys scattered over the floor. “The raven plushie,” he says, “she brings it with her everywhere now, doesn’t she?”
Kravitz stands a little straighter, grinning. “She sure does.”
“It’s not here.” Angus gestures at the mess on the floor with his wand. “So…” the tip of his wand glows for a moment as he casts a Locate Object. After a moment, he turns and walks outside. Then he walks over to the kennel. He stands on the threshold and observes the room.
“There,” he says, pointing to a corner with a pile of fluff curled up in a dog bed.
The three of them walk over to see one of Magnus’s big, fluffy dogs asleep in the dog bed, and nuzzled into the mountain of fur, clutching a raven plushie, positioned in just the right way that she’s hidden from view unless you’re looking right at her, is Lilliana.
Magnus bends down and extracts the sleeping toddler from the pile of fur she’d nuzzled herself into. She makes a few disgruntled noises at the loss of warmth, but stays asleep as Magnus positions her in his arms.
“Thanks Ango,” Magnus says quietly, “I owe you one.”
