For me the best way to approach battles in Yugioh AU's without including the card game is taking inspiration from the combat in the game Ender Lilies. Your attacks are all carried out by spirits you summon, which there are a big variety of but you can only equip so many at once.

The protagonist Lily doesn't do any attacking herself except dodging and healing. The spirits can't be destroyed or injured, only Lily.

I've seen this approach done a few times in fanworks but I'd love to see it more often. I think it's so cool, and a perfect way to utilise the monsters. It can lead to some very interesting fights and scenarios with only the sky being the limit.

The Original Fic

Fuck, she looked amazing.

She sat forward and hooked her other leg over the other arm of the chair, spreading her legs. Fernando breathed in as he looked in, meeting her eyes. He'd do anything she asked of him.

Hand settling on her waist, he let his thumb brush across her skin. "You look-" He swallowed "-so pretty, Hermosa," he said, eyes falling to the empty space between her breasts. "I bought you something," he said and pulled the black box out of his pocket.

That was all he needed. Fernando stood. He clasped the necklace around her neck and let the charm fall between her breasts. He stood back and took a moment to admire just how pretty it looked. Just how pretty she looked. Fuck, he never wanted her to leave.

Personality: Lilith is described as an Angel among the students of Terrovania! Always willing to help others and to soothe their minds, Lilith is like Terrovania’s very own big sister! Always sweet, Lilith carries herself with compassion and always thinks of others before herself even if she tends to neglect her own needs! However, when the moon is high and the air is crisp, Lilith shows a different side of her. It is when Lilith is consumed by her need to feed. Lilith becomes a bloodthirsty and manic monster, bent on quenching their own thirst. Besides these changes, Lilith becomes more assertive and alluring, bringing her “prey” in. Lilith is mostly unaware of how she acts while in this form but feels deeply remorseful for it! Lilith tries to keep this side of her from the rest of society as to not hurt them but at times, it does get out.

Backstory: Lilith wasn’t always the half human-half vampire being she is now! Lilith was born a normal human in a little village in the Briar Valley to two parents who cared more about their social standing rather than taking care of a child. Lilith was used as a pawn in an arranged marriage to a rich noble’s son. Lilith couldn’t refuse the marriage proposal but over time, she grew to accept it. The noble’s son treated her well but it was clear that neither of them wanted the wedding to happen.

The wedding started normally, up until the exchanging of rings when it arrived. It was all so quick, one moment Lilith and her Fiancé were exchanging rings and the next, the entire chapel was covered in blood. They say it was a wild animal that attacked the wedding but that couldn’t be farther from the case. Lilith hid under the alter, watching the carnage occur. Bones broken, skin ripped, the metallic taste of blood on everyone’s lips, it was a nightmare. Lilith had no idea where her fiancé had gone, most likely taken by the creature, and was fearing for her life. It wasn’t long before it came for her as well. Lilith was weak against its attacks and fainted. The only thing that was able to jolt her awake was a bite to the neck. The bite caused Lilith to come back to her senses and fight back. What she did was bite the entity back on the arm, just enough to scare it off and leave her alone. Lilith soon passed out for a long, long time. When she finally woke up, she learned of her wedding in the form of an urban legend many years later. Lilith was unsure as what to do but decided to find a way to survive. Lilith later lived in a cottage in the Briar Valley before getting an acceptance letter to NRC. Confusingly, Lilith accepted and made her way to Night Raven College and was sorted into Terrovania.
