For my literature class (themed love in the western world) I have to read the song of solomon and 1. I’m confused and 2. is it meant to be INCREDIBLY suggestive or am I wildly misinterpreting it??
#spicy speaks#idk I’m interpreting some of it as some kind of archaic innuendos#like the narrator calls herself a lily of the valley and then later refers to her lover as feasting on lilies??#hello???#I know poetry is meant to be up to interpretation#but I can’t help but feel like I’m misinterpreting it??#I’m not super familiar w the bible but I wouldn’t have thought it to have such suggestive poetry?? but go crazy ig#I adore the idea of reading poetry but then I actually read it and feel completely incapable of analyzing it and interpreting deeper meaning#I’m v excited for the class though#we get to read poems by ovid and sappho!!#I was researching sappho like crazy cuz I thought her name sounded like sapphic and apparently she wrote a bunch of lesbian poetry#but it was destroyed by the church??#devastating!!
