okay i have. very little desire to turn this into an actual fic but i can’t stop thinking about it so like. here we go lancing the plot bunny out? hopefully?

season one hiatus swat au.

rocker and val get divorced after she sends that letter to cortez. neither one of them contests the divorce so it’s handled quickly and then he doesn’t have to see her again. maybe mumford takes him out to dinner; not to celebrate, but just to let rocker know that knowing what he wants from his life is good and that wasn’t it. man’s been divorced four times, he gets it.

it’s at one of the swat barbecues that summer that annie sees rocker for the first time since the divorce, and he looks a little… lost. she’s about to go over and say hi, ask how he’s doing, when he looks over at her and for a second there’s —

she knows that look. it’s the look david gave her the night they made lila, all heat and desire and want rolled up. annie has to grab for the back of the nearest chair as her knees go weak.

— rocker looks away, and it’s like it never happened. it takes half an hour before annie can feel her heartbeat go back to normal.

she’s been stared at by a lot of men in her life. sometimes it makes her smile, sometimes it makes her laugh, sometimes it makes her want to take a shower to wash the slime off, sometimes it makes her wish david was the type of man who’d start a bar fight. it’s never made her feel like david was the one staring at her. annie wants to — she checks her watch. her parents are keeping the kids overnight, and most of the team will start leaving in an hour or so.

she catches david’s eye from across the pool and smiles, walking towards him. “having fun?” she asks, stealing a strawberry off his plate.

“at family night? you know it.”

she nods, looking across the yard. rocker looks away from her quickly, but he stops on david and — it’s the same look.

annie’s stomach flip flops and she wants.

“you should invite donovan over for dinner next week,” she says calmly. “he could probably use another meal he doesn’t have to cook for himself.”

“good idea, annie,” david smiles down at her, kissing her softly.

for the first time in a decade, she doesn’t close her eyes and looks at rocker instead.

rocker stares back at her, his eyes dark.

“and then maybe we take advantage of my parents having the kids and duck out of here a little early,” annie murmurs, leaning up to whisper in his ear.

she’s got an entire week to warm david up to the idea. that’s four more days than she actually needs.

CABLE RELOADED - Highlights

So, the dread DORMAMMU has invaded the galaxy/universe, wearing Ego the Living Planet's shell like the skin of a snake. He's conquered five planets of magical significance to perform a ritual to Dark Dimension-ify this one. Super bad news. Fortunately, The Guardians of the Galaxy are on top of it with new recruit Doctor DOOM. Rocket Raccoon and DOOM's plan? Shoot him in the head with a really big gun. Who do we know that knows guns?

He really is adorable.

This motherfucker, who's really just happy to be working with Rocket. He sends Cable to Breakworld and, because of the heavy security, he chooses to drop in from orbit, destroying him arm in the process...

... fortunately, Cable has a backup. He needs even more though, so he plants a Krakoan gate seed and brings in some specialists.

Wiz-Kid IS a rockstar

Not The Five, but the five he needs. Big fan of all of them (except for Groomer Cheney.) Breakworld's inhabitants are not. They're bozos who are justifiably not down with these strange people up in their shit. Then again, they once shot a massive bullet at Earth, so fuck em?

Solid callback to Astonishing X-Men there. DORMAMMU caught everyone with their pants down, so the team was hastily assembled. Team itself is a dirty word on Arakko, and obviously Khora wasn't briefed. Still, it's better than working with Fabian Cortez and she is much better in a fight.

Wiz-Kid's flavour of Technopathy is pretty wild, and I love my disabled brethren. The aliens don't, but it doesn't matter what they think anymore.

They need to make it to the objective, the whole reason they're here, and Nate takes the time to explain on the way there. He does work with Khora again btw, in X-Men Red. It's excellent.

She's so cool. She boosts Boom Boom to make a big ass bomb and Cannonball's job is to dunk it in security's face.

It works. Then Khora boosts Wiz-Kid. Result - REALLY BIG GUN - as mentioned. Mission nearly accomplished. Lila Cheney just needs to teleport them and the RBG back to base. Also, what goes in a really big gun?

If you guessed 'REALLY BIG BULLET' you'd be correct. Engineered by Rocket out of Mysterium (which Dormammu, a magical being, cannot withstand) provided by SWORD. Breakworld would be jealous, Kitty Pryde would almost certainly not. Anyway, BLAM.

Book is excellent, and very readable without knowledge of the greater Last Annihilation event. Definitely recommend.

Biography

PJ never knew anything different than a split home. By the time she was born, her parents had already split, never even getting married in the first place.

Her relationship with her mom was tense. Soon after she was born she brought someone else into their home which, as a young kid, PJ never liked or understood and would act out.

Her dad on the other hand found a nice woman, both of them latinxs and they build a nice family home, also giving her a baby brother who she adored. She loved spending time with the Cortezes more than at home with her mom.

Now she’s working as a fashion designer for a boutique that doesn’t let her do much, stomping on her creativity but at least she’s doing what she loves.

alas, lila makes it up to the her by awkwardly sitting raylee against the side of the queen bed. death has hardened her, but she isn't entirely without a fragile ounce of compassion ... even in her misguided (and it is often misguided, as most things lila does) way.

"HEY. HEY." that gentility is not found in her tone however, as she attempts to stir raylee. lila crouches beside her unconscious companion. "wake up. hey."

"this place isn't exactly the ritz, huh? kind of a dump if you ask me." the cat is eyeing the mouse, and so she exhibits all of her playfulness before lunging. despite insulting liz's workspace but seconds before, lila sits at the bar and pats the stool next to her. there is a twinge of lust to her smirk as she urges him forth again by wagging her finger. "c'mon. a drink will help you forget how shitty it is."
