Progression of My Music Taste, Through 5 Songs
The blog title may make it seem like I am a very experienced music critic, with many things to say about a bunch of different genres in music and what makes something good about a song and the opposite. I haven’t been listening to music for that long. In fact, I haven’t seriously tried to expand my horizons until I passed around 9th grade when I decided to reach into other genres. This expansion really opened my eyes to how beautiful music can be if done right, and also how bad it can be if done wrong. Music can instill any emotion into you, such as sadness, rage, etc. This playlist consists of my 5 most popular tracks, each from the last 5 years, in order to show my progression over time and to also give insight into the moods and genres I was feeling.
To introduce you to my playlist and to give context to what I started from and eventually where I am now, I am going to be showing my most popular songs from 2018 and 2019 which are from the same artist, named Lil Uzi Vert. The two songs that Spotify says were my most listened to were “Dark Queen” and “Sanguine Paradise”. The vibes on both of these songs are completely different, from Dark Queen having a depressing tone to it referring to his mother and how she was there for him no matter what, and Sanguine Paradise which offers a more trap-focused type of experience and lives up more to the slightly melodic but mainly hype trap where Dark Queen is more emo trap. I grouped these two years together because they offer the least change between years. These songs were my favorite songs to listen to at the time because this is when I first started listening to music, so a lot of outside influences were able to dictate what I listened to. In this case, my close group of friends introduced me to the trap genre and it has stuck with me in some way since, though not as predominately.
2020 was the year when I started to diversify the music I listened to, first out of pure boredom due to the pandemic forcing us to stay at home and secondly my growing interest in music and becoming bored of listening to the same things all the time. I felt like I needed to listen to a new vibe of the music, so I started to traverse into listening to other artists in the RnB genre, such as The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, Brent Fiayaz, etc. My most listened-to song this year and the song on the playlist is “Die for You” by The Weeknd. One of the reasons that this song was by far my most listened-to song is because it was a great song to listen to at night and sing whenever. It was a very versatile song, which can make me feel sad or make me want to sing for fun. This song's influence came from one of my friends, who during quarantine tried to expand my music taste because she said it was “too bad”, which is a fair statement. She took me down the road of this genre and ended up introducing me to a bunch of artists and broadened my taste.
The last two songs are completely different and contrasting songs. These songs take on completely different sounds and concepts, with one song being more for the sound and the vibe and one being somewhat similar but with different energy in that the lyrics and beat are made to make a sound. The two songs in question are “Rockstar Made” by Playboi Carti from 2021 and “Flashing Lights” by Kanye West. The vibe of Rockstar Made is a mix of punk rock and trap, and the mashup is actually incredible. The song is made more to make a specific sound than for listening for lyrics, which is something new approaching the rap game and Playboi Carti is leading that. This song feels like the birth of something new in the rap game with a bunch of younger-generation artists following this. Flashing Lights, on the other hand, is a classic off of graduation that just got back to me, and this year I started listening to it a lot more, and as a result, it makes the playlist as well.
One of my main intentions for making the playlist this way and using this concept of using my most popular songs from years ago is to really reflect on what I used to listen to when I was 13 years old to now, being a whole adult. This post offered me a lot of nostalgia. They really show me all the different moods that music has made me feel over the years and gives insight into what was even going on in my life at the time, associating time with the music which you could see as either a good or a bad thing. Anyways thanks for reading my blog and maybe even listening to the songs in the playlist linked at the top and bottom. :)

Post 27, Write Here

#3amblackpoetry in July (August) Post 27: Write Here Post 27, 2020: Dichotomous Dictums
#3amblackpoetry in July? On August 1?! As I said in yesterday's #3amblackpoetry in July post, a promise is a promise, and I promised myself I'd hit 30 posts and 30 days of writing activities in/for July. With this being 27, there are only 3 more left, and I'm not giving up just because publishing the remaining posts don't align with Western, linear concepts of time. No matter how many instances I appear to comply, know that there is no external clock or calendar determining my destiny; I set, stop, and reset the stopwatch of my life. Now, call this cocky, call this bravado, or call it presumptuous, but I articulate this otherwise private belief because it mirrors my approach to writing, and reminds me of today's prompt: "Write Here."
I know that in previous posts I've urged and shared reminders to stop second-guessing oneself while in the middle of writing - or before even starting. But like the tips I share with other teachers and community organizers, I want to make sure I include not just the negative framing (don't do this, stop doing this), but also the affirmative and action-centric framing (do this, try this, include this)? "Write here" is one solution or strategy of mine - and somewhat of a mantra. Where are you jotting your notes? They can be anywhere and everywhere, but they should be somewhere! Are you reacting to something or overflowing with some kind of sentiment? Is your cellphone with notes app handy so can you jot it down there, or can you compose an email draft? Yes, the brain is a powerful and often reliable place to store information, but somehow the fingertips are too!
However, I don't just want to talk about process; I want to elaborate a little on the topic of content and idea generation. More specifically, I need you to stop erasing ideas and first sentences. I'm not saying don't proofread or edit; what I am saying is that where something goes, how wide something reaches, and writing "The End" simply cannot happen without staying the course on an idea, word or sentence.
For inspiration, consider a piece I wrote called "Badly Boujee," the link for which is included as part of today's post. Badly Boujee is now also a SONG with beats and engineering by Mike Delick, and lyrics AND VOCALS by me! It all started with the song "Bad and Boujee" and realizing how much I loved the syncopated and staccato-style rapping the performers (Migos and Lil Uzi Vert) display on the track. I mean listening even today, I dig it! One day, during a writing challenge like this, I tapped into my feelings of admiration and decided to write a poem that was partial tribute and partial (respectful) mimicry - embracing the dichotomous dictums that freed me up to not second-guess the presence or source of my zeal (commercial rappers sharing the same type of lyrical content that raises concern for many, as far as women, proximity to crime, etc.). I had no intentions of actually making it a song, but that's not my point. There wouldn't be a song, or poem to turn into a song, if I hadn't tapped into what was inside, and said, "let me go ahead with this idea, and just write here."

Happy writing y'all!

Be that as it may, what are those apparatuses? What’s more, what are simply the means would you be able to take to make yourself noticeable on SoundCloud? We set up this manual forgive you an extensive methodology for getting things off the ground: become familiar with every one of our tips and deceives of SoundCloud advancement and take your introduction on the stage to the following level
Does SoundCloud make a difference?
Truly! Soundсloud is one of the greatest music promotion stages on the planet. With free music get to and simple direct transfer framework, SoundCloud turned into a harbor for all things DIY and askew — despite the fact that the greater part of the standard demonstrations is available on the stage. A lot of specialists previously picked up reputation and consideration on SoundCloud — particularly with regards to electronic music and rap. You know, similar to XXXTENTATION, Lil Pump, Lil Uzi Vert — a great deal of the specialists beating the Billboard graphs have begun by turning into a web sensation on (or through) SoundCloud. That is to say, SoundCloud rap is a generally perceived classification now — however in the event that you need all the more persuading, here are a few snappy measurements:
Why SoundCloud is significant?
175 million clients and 76 million month to month clients (more than Pandora yet not exactly Spotify)
180 million tracks transferred on the stage, with 12 hours transferred each moment
20 million music makers
1.2 million makers included in playlists,
With such an expansive crowd and built up network, SoundCloud is a key piece of any performer’s promoting system.
8 Tips for advancing music on SoundCloud
1. Synchronize your online networking
The more strong and composed your web-based life procedure, the better your music will perform on SoundCloud. There’s an overflow impact on building a group of people on various stages: you transfer your music on SoundCloud, discharge recordings on YouTube, build up your visual image on Instagram and get individual with your fans on Twitter. Each new audience that tails you on one of the stages is bound to tail you on another.
Youtube
Transferring your music on YouTube can open you to new crowds, and it doesn’t generally require a music video. In any event, transferring music with a despite everything picture is better than not transferring by any means — some got to 45 million perspectives with a few seconds of circled movement. With everything taken into account, the most significant part is ensuring you have a nearness on the stage — in spite of the fact that music video discharges should be a piece of your showcasing blend once you get the things off the ground.
Twitter
Twitter was a huge stage for SoundCloud rappers back in their day (truly, that is the articulations we presently use to state “two years prior”). The stage’s solid suit is that it permits you to set up a two-route correspondence with your fans. Be connecting with, remarkable, and agreeable, and you may get your supporters to retweet in handfuls sooner than you might suspect. For building up an association with your SoundCloud profile, be certain you post 30-second implants with your new tracks.
Instagram
Instagram assumes a vital job in building up your image and getting your fans to see your name. Other than that, Instagram stories and Instagram Live are maybe the best places to impart your new melodies to your following and get some traffic streaming to your SoundCloud page.
2. Look at your socioeconomics
The major DSPs all give itemized first-party investigation about execution on their foundation (counting SoundCloud). This information gives a basic understanding of your crowd that ought to advise your promoting methodology. SoundCloud investigation permits you to get to point by point information on how your music performs on the stage — including the socioeconomics of your listenership. This information can assist you with understanding your crowd better and streamline your publicizing and general advertising efforts.
3. Team up
Joint effort drives the music business — and getting highlights with different specialists is the most seasoned stunt in the book. Highlights permit you to trade crowds and acquaint new individuals with your music. You can team up in several distinct manners. On the off chance that you produce music yourself, it may be a smart thought to sell (or even part with for nothing) a portion of your pounds to dynamic and-coming rappers on Soundcloud — yet ensure that your sound will work with their stream and the other way around.
On the off chance that you’re not a maker, at that point you despite everything have the choice of going for melody highlights. Melody highlights can have an increasingly obvious limited time impact — however, they likewise require an additional hands-on way to deal with the collab, working intimately with the subsequent craftsman.
4. Remix individual craftsmen
Remixing is another type of coordinated effort and connection, both with individual craftsmen and their fanbase. There are two or three distinct approaches to work remixes into your SoundCloud advancement methodology. To start with, you can add you’re interesting energy to an effectively well-known tune is an incredible method to open your style to new crowds and interface with new fans. Be certain that you get a green light from the craftsman you’re remixing first, however.
Besides, you can standard over a beat that you love from another craftsman (in case you’re a rapper, obviously). That is an extraordinary chance to make some captivating substance — individuals are bound to tap on a tune on the off chance that it highlights one of their preferred beats — however don’t hope to adapt it, however. It’s “for limited time utilize as it were”.
5. Collaborate with others
There are more straightforward approaches to organize in the music world than jumping on highlights or doing remixes. Normally connecting with the two fans and different specialists will assist you with setting up your quality on the stage and eventually open you to new audience members. Repost, follow, remark, message, and join gatherings — however, remain specific and just connect with substance and individuals you truly like. There’s no reason for flooding your devotees and other craftsman’s feeds with content only for it.
6. Fix your SoundCloud settings
There are some basic advances that you can take in your SoundCloud record to support listenership or even send traffic away to different stages like Spotify. For one thing, you can set your substance to stream as it were. That will restrain your music’s virality, hindering your audience members from downloading the melodies (and re-transferring them over the web) — however on the top side, your stream checks are probably going to go up.
Furthermore, you can put a portion of your substance behind the paywall — it’s a typical practice to have your singles and b-sides uninhibitedly accessible on SoundCloud while putting your long-structure discharges in see mode. That will push your fans to different stages, however, be cautious: all your SoundCloud supporters won’t make it to Spotify.
7. Fix your SoundCloud and Google SEO
A basic piece of your marking and advertising procedure is to guarantee that crowds can rapidly distinguish your music and discover you on various stages. How would you anticipate that individuals should discover you when you give them no information on your tunes?
Make it Understood in your title and labels what your music is. Try not to title your melody “Dj mustard trap remix by lemonade man”. Name it “DJ Mustard - 100 Bands (Trap Remix) - By LemonadeMan”. Make it look great (and simple to peruse). That will make it either for your fans to locate your substance, and may even get your music positioning on Google for “DJ Mustard Trap Remix”.
On the subject of Google — they’re making a decent attempt to get you in the hunt, yet you have to work with them. Rename yourself on SoundCloud from “lemonademan1997" to Lemonade Man, or something progressively proficient (with spaces, ideally). Follow a similar Song Title model above, and use labels while transferring your music.
8. Go Pro
SoundCloud Pro places a huge amount of valuable devices in your grasp for driving income, improving your promoting system, and dispersing your music. On the off chance that you’re not kidding about the stage, at that point, Pro is the best approach. The Pro membership gives you access to improved examination, permits you to adapt your substance, and even get your music from SoundCloud onto all a large portion of the significant stages by means of an appropriation bargain.
How would you know whether it’s functioning?
SoundCloud is only one of the stages accessible to craftsmen. Without a doubt, its examination will show how you’re doing on the stage itself — yet it won’t yield any knowledge on your technique and profession all in all. To get a total view, you have to follow many stages and mediums.
Sound charts (hello, that is us!) does precisely that. We total information over all foundations of the music business, both worldwide and nearby: from gushing administrations and online networking to radio airplay across thousands of stations. Sound charts give its clients the 360° perspective on a craftsman’s profession, transforming crude information into significant, natural ongoing bits of knowledge. Discover more.
End
A portion of these means is exceptionally basic, such as changing your SoundCloud settings. Others will require outreach and difficult work, such as teaming up with different craftsmen. Be that as it may, with 12 hours of music transferred to SoundCloud every moment, difficult work is actually what it will take to separate yourself from the majority. At long last, it comes down to the nature of your music, however, several hints and deceives above can go far in getting your SoundCloud profile going.

LIL UZI VERT - FUTSAL SHUFFLE 2020
[6.40]
Uzi’s got a brand new dance, you gotta move your muscle...
Wayne Weizhen Zhang: "Futsal" refers to a type of indoor soccer that's played on a smaller field, "Shuffle" refers to the dance that Lil Uzi Vert is shamelessly trying to promote with this song, and "2020" is 2020. But awkward track name aside, it's nice to hear Uzi just having fun, clearly enjoying himself, spitting nonsense words over a beat as erratic as he is. Tell me the samples of Tyler, the Creator at the beginning and Nardwuar at the end aren't thrown in just to make you smile. [9]
Joshua Minsoo Kim: The same ol' post-Luv is Rage 2 rapping from Uzi, which is enough to keep the song going. He doesn't make much of the beat, though: a dreamlike trance with some blaring gunshots. The soundbites from the Nardwuar interview seem like a last-minute attempt at injecting some fun, which gives the impression that "Futsal Shuffle 2020" is just something to tide people over until Eternal Atake. [5]
Katherine St Asaph: The main synth perpetually sounds one second away from turning into "Sandstorm," which I assume gives this implied meme currency (if the associated dance and Tyler/Nardwuar samples didn't already have "Futsal Shuffle" flush with viral cash). You certainly can't accuse this of being overly chill. If anything, it overcompensates; there's too much jittery energy, and aside from one second (you know which) it can't stop skittering to start to bang. [6]
Scott Mildenhall: Small-sided football is all good in theory -- more tricks, more flicks! -- but that intricacy is soon demolished by the force of stockier people hassling and harrying you, and your less tactful teammates chastising you until it feels like the walls are closing in. On a larger pitch there's more time to look up, pick a pass, use the space, dribble, intercept, while still annoying people by feinting past the opposition unnecessarily. All of which is to say that the anti-loitering alarm synth, while at first an asset, becomes oppressive over time. Speed it up and you're probably halfway to the end of "GhettoMusick," a thought that makes a cheering distraction. [6]
Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: The most self-indulgent rap single I've heard since "Otis." It's three minutes of big audio irritants (that buzzsaw synth!) that Uzi uses as a bed for fanservice raps, sounding less like the moody goth rapper of Luv is Rage 2 and more like the meme of Lil Uzi Vert that has arisen on Twitter and Instagram. Here, Uzi is at his most extravagantly enjoyable, turning every line into a taunt-boast about his own style, his unique appeal. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy: He proves his one-of-one status by making "Futsal Shuffle" work. [8]
Crystal Leww: The highest compliment I can pay a song is Shazaming it on the dance floor, and at 3:50 a.m. on Saturday night, I knew that with that synth line that sounds like the best of Kanye's Graduation days and a still-hot Lil Uzi Vert that I needed to keep this for my own records. [7]
Brad Shoup: Considered docking this for the presence of my mortal enemy Nardwuar -- he pops up right after Uzi talks about annoying some girl, which is appropriate. (The "gotta shoot two at her" line reminds me of a funnier joke.) All kinds of unforced errors here, maybe because that Eurodance riff and the dance took all his attention. Uzi gets to cruising speed at the end of the second verse, bursting through a bank and a tour bus before landing on his bed. He sounds content. Then the shots drop again. [6]
Ryo Miyauchi: The seriousness in approach suggests Uzi considers this more than just a novelty track, but it's also not nearly substantial enough to compare to his more lyrically adept one-offs. The flow feels athletic, keeping up a double-time drill in the spaces of the busy synths and busier footwork, but it doesn't generate much content aside from cheese talk -- literal and metaphorical. It's more fun and endearing watching Uzi do the actual dance. [5]
Alfred Soto: It's not The Twist or the Harlem Shuffle or the Ostrich: the sequences blare too loudly. A few years after his debut, I get off on the off rhymes and surrealism. Just because nothing's at stake doesn't mean nothing matters. [6]
Nortey Dowuona: Lil Uzi Vert has been training to do this for a while. Several singles have stalled out after a brief moment of being buoyed by his diehard fans, and now this hollowed-out bass ball of a beat that he's juggling on both ashy ankles is going to be the winning goal that should finally get Generation Now to give him more playing time. The problem is, he's not a tricks player, he's supposed to be a striker. And he keeps not scoring. [6]
