Smitten - Chapter Four - Neteyam's POV
Tumblr media
Mild Warning: Non canon compliant. This series will probably wrap up in 3/4 more chapters. This is Neteyam's version of Court. Just a reminder, I have aged Neteyam and Aonung up. In case you were not aware.
Smitten - Chapter Four: Birthday - Neteyam's POV
Neteyam could see just how motivated Aonung was for this upcoming ceremony. Every day since that night on the beach, Aonung seemed to work harder and harder to prove himself. It made Neteyam swell with pride for his lover, Aonung was making serious improvements in just a short time.
Neteyam may not have always seen just how great Aonung was doing, but at night when they laid underneath the stars, Aonung told him everything. “I named my Tsurak, Yam, after you. You should see her! She’s huge and kind of scary, just like you when you’re angry.” Aonung would joke, their hands intertwined. Neteyam couldn’t help but laugh, Aonung was so in love with him that he had named his Tsurak after him?
“I hope Yam bites that pretty little face of yours, you’ll probably deserve it.” Neteyam joked, but Aonung had fallen silent. Neteyam looked over to find his lover passed out. Neteyam took in his features, he could see the eye bags forming in his eyes from the lack of sleep, scratches and callouses on his hands from the heavy training.
“I love you..” Neteyam said softly, his hand trailing down Aonung’s chest gently to ease him into sleep.
It wasn’t the first time Aonung had fallen asleep on him, it happened more often than not, sometimes Neteyam had so much he wanted to say. He wanted to tell Ao’nung all about his hunt! The pretty shell he found, or perhaps how his father bestowed his unreasonable expectations on him again.
But Aonung was tired, so tired he could barely stay awake after dinner. Neteyam wanted to be upset but he knew Aonung was doing this for him, Aonung wanted to become a man so he could court him. Neteyam knew there was a bigger picture here.
“I miss you..” Neteyam whispered, he had been feeling down, despite physically seeing his lover it just wasn’t the same. Neteyam played with Aonung’s curls, twisting them gently around his fingers, taking his time with them.
“My love.. Tomorrow is my birthday.. I know you’ll probably be too busy to come.. I actually don’t even want you to come.. There is always fighting on my birthday. You would probably wouldn’t be able to keep your mouth shut if my father said something about me not being there to watch Lo’ak.” Neteyam looked down at his lover, a soft snore escaping the Water Na’vi underneath him, Neteyam couldn’t help but smile.
Neteyam leaned down, moving his braids to the side so he could plant a kiss on his sleeping lover’s lips.
- -
As Neteyam had expected, Aonung hadn’t shown up to his birthday, his family celebrated him and surprisingly there wasn’t a single fight. Neteyam couldn’t enjoy it though, he felt empty. Neteyam faked a smile to his parents, sitting at the edge he placed his feet in the water. Neteyam focused on the fish that had swam by, he hadn’t realized that his whole family knew something was wrong.
But there was only one person who was bold enough to confront him on that.
It was Lo’ak, Neteyam had already been expecting it.
“What is wrong? Is it Aonung?” Lo’ak asked once they were finally alone, Neteyam shook his head. “No. I think I will see him tonight at the beach,” Neteyam responded, though there was hesitation creeping in his mind, “Aonung wishes to court me.. I plan on accepting, perhaps I am just nervous thinking about it.” Neteyam explained.
Lo’ak nodded as if he understood everything, “if he said he would court you, he’ll probably start the process tonight. Everyone knows the best time to court someone is on their birthday, I am sure he will have something decently planned for you.” Lo’ak placed a hand on his shoulder, Neteyam was surprised Lo’ak was being so civil about Aonung. It was probably because it was his birthday.
“You are right, thank you Lo’ak.” Neteyam gave him a smile as he had gotten up to make himself presentable. “I will be back.. Aonung should be getting to the beach soon.” Neteyam seemed to have his spark back as he jogged out of the Marui.
“Nung..?” Neteyam called out as he approached the sand, he had looked around for Aonung and determined that he had just been here early and Aonung would show up any minute.
Neteyam moved to sit on sand, counting each wave that crashed while he waited for him. Neteyam thought closing his eyes would make it go faster. But minutes turned into hours, it wasn’t until late that Neteyam finally understood. Aonung was just too busy with his life to be here, it wasn’t his fault, it wasn’t like they had plans together.
Perhaps Aonung just forgot.
Yes, he forgot. That had to be it!
But Neteyam couldn’t help the nagging thought that perhaps Aonung had reconsidered courting him.
Neteyam wiped his face from showing any expression, he had walked back home ready to shout and cry at the same time. But he wouldn’t let his anxiety and overthinking get the best of him tonight, it was his birthday of course.
“Bro! Let me see!” Lo’ak looked excited, practically bouncing to him in his room. Neteyam knew Lo’ak was not really excited but trying to be a good brother and cheer him up.
“There is nothing to see..” Neteyam tried to keep his words chaste, not wanting to lose control of his emotions. “What do you mean?” Lo’ak plopped down on the floor and Neteyam sighed frustrated as he turned to face Lo’ak, tears beginning to form in his eyes, “He did not come. Please just leave me alone, Lo’ak.” Neteyam’s voice had cracked mid sentence and he immediately buried his head in his arms as he laid down trying to swallow all the emotions overflowing his chest.
“Are you fucking kidding me? I’m going to fucking break his face!” Lo’ak shot up, ready to run out right now and drag Aonung out of his bed. “Lo’ak! No please! Just drop it! I do not care! Perhaps it was just a stupid miscommunication.” Neteyam moved to grab Lo’ak ankle, holding him in place. Lo’ak glared, bearing his teeth, “Neteyam. It may not be tonight, but I promise you. I’m going to make Ao’nung pay for making you cry on your birthday. There is no excuse!” Lo’ak hissed out clearly upset.
“Just.. Please not tonight, I’ve had enough.. I just want to sleep.” Neteyam felt tired and now he was starting to feel nauseous.
- -
The next morning, Lo’ak had been nowhere to be seen, he had left even before Neteyam had woken up. Neteyam weighed out the outcomes, either Aonung would get his butt whooped and come apologize or Lo’ak would get his butt whooped and Neteyam would have to drag Aonung. Weirdly enough, Neteyam didn’t rush to fix the problem.
Neteyam was sluggish as he finally decided to leave their home, Tuk was yanking on his arm to go out swimming together, no matter how upset he was he couldn’t say no to her.
“Neteyam! Just who we had been searching for,” Neytiri, his mother, called out to him. She waved her hand over and seemed excited to have him rush over. Neteyam couldn’t help but feel excited, his mother’s excitement was always contagious. Neteyam didn’t know what to expect when he pushed through the center of the small crowd that had been forming, perhaps it was Aonung? Had he completed his ceremony?
“Neteyam, this is Nikau, he is the cousin…” Ronal was speaking but Neteyam blocked most of it with his disappointment by the results of what was in the middle. It was a large group, Neteyam recognized the six members who had jumped Aonung, he couldn’t help but glare at them.
“Isn’t that great Neteyam?” Neytiri spoke, it snapped Neteyam out of his thoughts as he recognized Nikau was kneeling in front of him holding out a spear, “I’m sorry.. What?” Neteyam asked, taking a step back from the kneeling man.
“Nikau wishes to court you, despite your demon blood. He finds that you are a worthy mate,” Ronal spoke with a smile, Neteyam swore that was the second time he had ever seen her smile. There was a crowd surrounding them, bystanders, from both clans. Neteyam looked to his mother for help, not wanting to displease this many people.
“I am so happy for you, Neteyam!” Neytiri cheered him on, placing her hand on his shoulder as if telling him to accept. Neteyam didn’t want this but they spoke of this like it was a done deal. Nikau was still there, staring up at him. Neteyam felt so much pressure from all three parties, there was a bunch of whispering around.
Ronal had essentially told him, he should be grateful that Nikau wanted to court him because of his demon blood. His mother, as sweet as she was, was happy that her eldest son was being courted and that she was there to witness it.
The whole thing was a lot, there were so many thoughts rushing through his mind, he looked around the crowd hoping Aonung would just come and whisk him away from this. But Aonung wasn’t there. Neteyam struggled with disappointing his parents, it wasn’t rocket science. He would accept the gift and then politely decline once they were alone.
Neteyam placed a hand tentatively on the spear, he wasn’t a fan of such a large weapon but accepted nonetheless, many people cheered, people who he didn’t know. His mother looked so excited and even Ronal seemed to approve of him for once.
He hated this.
Nikau and him spent the entire day together after that, Nikau didn’t seem like a bad guy, he just wasn’t his boyfriend. They went hunting together, Nikau had expected him to know how to use the spear, but didn’t know how. Nikau was decent enough to show him how to use the spear, but Nikau made him feel like he was dumb for not knowing how to use the spear.
Aonung wouldn’t have done that, maybe years ago when they had first arrived, but Aonung now would have taken his time with him, he would throw a playful insult in there but Nikau made him feel like he was walking on eggshells all over.
The two shared dinner together, Nikau was a picky eater and very spoiled in the way he presented himself. He had expected Neteyam to cater or serve him as a guest, but Neteyam didn’t sign up to be a simple malewife. Neteyam looked at him with a side eye, keeping himself composed and not wanting to cause a scene in front of everyone.
Thankfully, his mother suggested they take a walk on the beach together to have some “alone” time. Though his father seemed skeptical, his mother realistically called all the shots in their relationship.
Neteyam took the spear with him to the beach, the two sat in the sand for a while just talking while Neteyam looked for a way to bring up declining his gift.
“So how do you get those tattoos?” Neteyam asked, pointing to a few different ones that were scattered on the other body, “They are a gift from Eywa.” Nikau explained the meaning behind them and Neteyam nodded, fully invested in the lore behind the tattoos. “Aonung will probably receive his soon..” Neteyam commented aloud.
“Aonung is the guy from the island, right? The one they jumped?” Nikau asked and Neteyam almost instantly flushed, not recognizing he had spoken aloud.
“Yes, I thought he was going to be courting me.” Neteyam admitted, Nikau laughed at this. “And I assume he has not?” Nikau asked. Neteyam laughed with him, it was to brush the whole thing off as a joke but it did really hurt.
“Yesterday was my 21st birthday, I had expected him to court me then but I was mistaken.” Neteyam spoke freely with Nikau for the simple fact he was not one of them.  Who would Nikau tell? No one.
“With that being said, I cannot accept this.” Neteyam knew it was time for him to decline officially, he grasped the spear with both hands and pushed himself up to return the gift, “This has been nice but I am not looking for a mate,” The ‘with you’ was silent, but he figured Nikau would understand since he seemed to already know about Aonung.
Neteyam was taken aback with the aggressive reaction he had gotten, but Aonung had shown up right then, everything happened so fast. Neteyam was moved and Aonung had tackled Nikau, Neteyam was scared Aonung was going to get in trouble again. That was the only reason he had tried to pull him off.
He wasn’t even mad that he had accidentally been hit, he was mad that Aonung made it seem like Nikau had a chance with him.
Aonung had directed his attention to him and now it was their turn to argue together, Neteyam was hurt that Aonung had implied he would have accepted Nikau, when they were clearly in a relationship.
Aonung was upset with him because he had accepted and they were in a relationship.
It dawned on Neteyam that they were just two fools in love.
“I am sorry.. I am sorry I didn’t make you feel confident enough to tell the world about us.” Aonung apologized, pulling him close and planting a kiss on his forehead. Neteyam sighed softly as he rested in his lover's arms, it had felt like an eternity since they had held each other like this.
- - -
Neteyam was silent on the walk back toward his family’s Marui, but he did slow down his steps wanting to spend more time with Aonung. He thought about confronting him about his birthday but didn’t know if now was the time.
“Neteyam..Before you go back, I know I messed up with your birthday, It’s not an excuse because I should have been there for you. I plan on making it up to you, even if it takes years to do it.” Aonung promised, Neteyam could breathe normally again. It was as if Aonung had read his mind and knew how he felt.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever forgive you.. You might have to start by doing my island chores for the next week.. And washing Etera.” Neteyam turned slowly to Aonung who was visibly processing how to balance his chores and Neteyam’s chores. “Could we possibly switch to next week? I already have to do Lo’ak’s..” Aonung started to speak, “But like I’ll do it for you-” Aonung added.
“I am just kidding, I wouldn’t put that on you.” Neteyam wrapped his arms around Aonung’s neck and just laid his head on his shoulder, this was really all he needed.
“Are you sure? Because I would do it-” Aonung started to speak but clearly remembered something much more important, “Neteyam.. I just remembered something..” Aonung looked down at him, his arms wrapped around his waist and pulled him close. There was a dramatic pause that made Neteyam internally freak out just a bit.
“I may have told my mom about you being my mate,” Aonung kept Neteyam close, probably so Neteyam couldn’t run away from him. “You did what! She hates me! She is going to tell everyone!” Neteyam shouted and  tried to pull away but Aonung locked him in place, “It’s good though, she will just have to live with you as my mate,” Aonung tried to reason with Neteyam who looked stunned and at a loss for words.
“Wait.. You really told your mother..Just like that? No hesitation? You are serious-” Neteyam finally processed the significance of Aonung’s words and couldn’t hold back the large smile. It meant the world to him, he admired how bold his lover was- He would have been terrified to look Ronal in her face and say that.
“I am serious, I told her. But I want to wait until I have courted you properly for us to make our bond.” Just the thought of them bonding left both boys a bit flustered, they hadn’t even gone further than a few kisses and they had cuddled a few times. So the idea left them both excited but nervous.
“I think we should wait too.. Should I tell my parents about us?” Neteyam asked, and he was surprised when Aonung had said no. “I want to ask them the proper way, you deserve that. Just be a little patient with me, I have just one more week until my ceremony. Then we can tell them together. I told my mother today out of anger, I want us to do everything right.” Aonung explained and Neteyam couldn’t have been happier.
Aonung wanted to take his time, that meant the world to Neteyam.
“We will do everything right.. Aonung, while we are talking about.. Us.. and our relationship.. I know you have a lot going on with your ceremony, but would it be possible for you to leave an hour earlier or something? It’s just.. I have missed you and I haven-” Neteyam was cut off with a firm kiss on the lips, he melted into the kiss and figured Aonung had missed him just as much.
“You don’t have to explain yourself- I promise I’ll make more time for you,” Aonung spoke against his lips. Neteyam loved that Aonung listened to the things he liked and wanted, he felt fortunate to have such a caring mate.
Neteyam pulled Aonung down for another kiss, this time there was some sort of switch that flicked on, like Aonung had said all the right words. Aonung was taken aback, Neteyam could tell by the hesitation before he had kissed back. Neteyam kissed Aonung like it would be the last time they would ever kiss, his arms locked around his neck. The small height difference left Neteyam standing on the tip of his feet as he pressed his body against the others feeling bold.
Despite the boldness, Neteyam pulled away needing to catch his breath. Aonung barely let him get a full breath in before their lips were smashed together again, the couple stumbled back and Neteyam found himself pressed against a tree, he felt like he was surrounded by Aonung at this point. Aonung bit at his lip, and Neteyam felt a heat brewing that he hadn’t ever really felt before. It was a strong need that left him wanting more. Their tongues wrestled with one-another, but it was a half hearted fight in Neteyam’s case.
He had easily let Aonung win, melting in the tight embrace and heated kiss. His fingers found themselves laced in Aonung’s curls. Aonung strong calloused hands were exploring his body as if he had never touched him before. Aonung’s hands had found themselves on the back of Neteyam’s thighs and he hoisted him up. Neteyam instinctively wrapped his legs around Aonung, as if his body knew exactly what he wanted. Neteyam let out a small breathless moan from their bodies pressing against each other in the sweetest ways,
“Ew gross! You guys! Cut that shit out- weren’t you just mad at him? Now you’re sucking face- in public? Have you no shame- get your fish hands off my brother!” Lo’ak called out from a distance, Neteyam could only assume Lo’ak was sent to find him.
The two pulled away so fast, Aonung dropped Neteyam, he had fallen into a bush by the side of the tree with a soft thud. Aonung looked flustered and panicked. Neteyam groaned from where he hit the floor, he almost wanted to stay on the ground. He was too embarrassed to even look at his brother, he would rather die than move from where he was. The bush hid him pretty well. He would wait right here.
Aonung coughed and wiped his lips of Neteyam’s saliva, “I’ll get him right back- Just go- Please-'' Aonung gestured for Lo’ak to leave, “You have 5 minutes, or I will tell Tuk and Kiri! Tuk will tell the whole island.” Lo’ak threatened before walking off.
“Neteyam.. He is gone.” Aonung could finally breathe in relief, “I would rather die than to move from here, he just saw us!” Neteyam clearly wasn’t going to move anytime soon.
“I see him and Tsireya all the time- it is not that serious- let us go.” Aonung really didn’t want Tuk going around telling the island how he had pinned Neteyam to a tree. Aonung grabbed Neteyam by his waist and tossed him over his shoulder, “My love, Tuk will tell the world, I would rather Lo’ak know than the village elders.” Aonung carried Neteyam home.

Surprise
Tumblr media
Sang Zhi plans a little surprise for Duan Jiaxu … but it doesn’t exactly go to plan.
Tagging @kairadiamond We had fun with this one! I hope it lives up to the expectation! ☺️
Also ... it's a lil steamy ....
Sang Zhi is quite certain she has never done anything so outrageous. For a moment she thinks about calling it off, but then she remembers … or at least tries to remember the last time she has seen Jiaxu for more than 10 minutes at a time.
With a new but still somewhat shaky confidence, she lets herself into Jiaxu’s office. The office space is both dark and empty but that is no surprise to her. Jiaxu had mentioned – on what was once again another brief call – that they were meeting with another client.
She steps into his private office. It’s a good space that has little touches of her everywhere. There’s a large desk in the middle and a couch at one end of the room. The throw she had bought him last winter is neatly folded and placed at one end of the couch.
Sang Zhi calls him as she sheds her winter coat. He picks up on the third ring.
“Wéi, Zhizhi,” Jiaxu answers. His voice is soft and suddenly she can’t bear how much she misses him. But he also sounds like he’s in the middle of something.
“Wéi, Jiaxu. Have I disturbed you?” she immediately asks worrying she that she has not thought through the finer details of this plan. She tries not to fidget with her outfit.
“No. We were done.”
“Hhm, are you still heading back to the office?” She asks even though she knows the answer.
He sighs sounding upset with himself. “Yes.” She can hear the distant rumble of cars and wonders if he’s already driving back. “Sang Zhi, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. It’s work and it’s very important,” she tries to soothe. This much she can understand. It is work and Jiaxu has always been understanding of her hectic schedule. The least she could do was afford him the same.
Still, they’ve hated when their schedules got to this point of disarray. It makes her heart leap a little more, knowing he craves her presence as she does him.
“I promise things will go back to normal soon,” he says regardless.
“Did you at least have a good dinner?” His silence causes her to frown a little. “Jiaxu.”
“Yeah … yeah. We ate.”
“You’re lying,” she scolds. Picking up the picture frame on his desk, she narrows her eyes at it as if he were in front of her now.
“I ate … earlier. But once I get back to the office, I’ll order something,” he promises.
Sang Zhi smiles. “Don’t worry about that. I ordered something for you.”
“Thank you, Zhizhi,” he says and she smirks glancing down at her outfit.
It’s a little (or a lot) more daring than she is usually used to. But Ning Wei said it would be the perfect thing. It had taken more coaxing before Sang Zhi pulled the little dress on. Thank goodness for the winter coat that she had worn.
“It’s a treat,” Ning Wei had said with a wink.
“For who?” Sang Zhi had questioned.
But in the end, she can’t help the temptation to try it one. And she had to admit, she liked how it felt on her. Even more, she liked how it looked on her.
She’s still got the phone to her ear as she hoists herself up onto his desk. It’s immaculately clean, free of all nick-nack’s save for the picture frame that houses a photo of the two of them. He’s got a few more photos around his office – on the shelf and the little table beside the couch.
“What are you doing?” he asks diverting her attention once more.
“Hhm, nothing really. Just … waiting for you.”
She bites her lips wondering if he will catch on and end their fun all too quickly. But his heavy sigh tells her she is safe for now.
“I’ll make it up to you, Zhizhi.” His voice goes low and she has to cross her legs because she is very much going to see that he makes good on that.
She taps her heel-clad feet in the air as she decides to tease him a little more. “How?”
“Whatever you want.”
“Be careful, Duan Jiaxu. You might regret that.”
He laughs and she’s thrilled to hear it. “With you? Never.”
“Hhm, right answer.”
Jiaxu laughs again but a sudden thought makes her panic.
“Are you heading back to the office alone?”
“Yes. They’ve all done their best. I just have to put the finishing touches on the contract,” he tells her.
Sang Zhi breathes a sigh of relief. And no sooner too as she hears the rustle of movement in the background on the other end of the line. Was he here already? A moment later, she hears the distant sound of the front door opening.
“You work yourself too hard, Jiaxu.” She keeps her voice low so not to be overheard by him.
Sang Zhi hasn’t turned on any of the lights. So she waits, listening with baited breath as he walks through the office space, heading straight for his office.
“Maybe you need to take a break?” she suggests coyly.
“That’s a good idea,” he says. “Shall I come fetch you? We can get something to eat.”
She wants to panic but manages to keep her cool as she hears his footsteps echo against the floor. A light goes on in the distance as he pauses on his trek.
“You don’t think I’ll be a distraction?” She tips her head to the side even though he can’t see her.
He’s fiddling with something just outside the office. She’s not sure how she knows, but she does. “You’re always a distraction, Zhizhi.” He laughs and she hears his footsteps pick up again. “So what do you say?”
“Hhm … I think you’ll like the surprise I got you much better,” she says with as much confidence as she can.
He pauses just outside the door. With the little light thrown under gap of the door, she can make out his shadow. He pauses once more and she’s almost tempted to just tell him.
“Really?”
At first she doesn’t say anything but then so quietly he almost misses it, Sang Zhi whispers, “I promise.”
Sang Zhi is not sure if he’s made the connection or not but it doesn’t matter because a moment later, the door to his office swings open and Jiaxu turns the light on.
She manages not to squint in the new light as she catches sight of him. Phone to his ear, she knows the exact moment he sees her. His eyes grow wide with surprise as he steps into the office.
“Sang Zhi,” he whispers.
She playfully wiggles her brows at him, “What do you think?” she asks into the phone. “Do you like your surprise?”
“Uh… Zhizhi let me call you back. I have to inspect this surprise a little more closely first,” he cheekily responds and then cuts the call.
She’s vaguely aware of him throwing his phone onto the couch as he shucks his coat off too. Sang Zhi’s still giggling as he approaches the desk. She has just enough mind to uncross her legs before he reaches for her. His hands settle on her thighs, that are so visible thanks to the very short dress Ning Wei picked. He drags her closer a little more, until she is perfectly perched on the edge of his desk.
She loops her hands around his neck and even with her sitting on his desk, he looms over her. She’s never minded though.
“Surprise,” she barely manages to whisper before he closes the space between them.
It’s soft kiss at first, almost like he is testing to see if she is really there. But when he pulls away and she chases him, hungry for more, he gives in.
His hand comes up to grasp her face, tipping her head up a little more as he kisses her. She’s rooted to the spot, as she matches his vigour. There’s a giddy feeling that grows in the pit of her stomach. Jiaxu pulls back just enough so their foreheads press together.
She wonders if he can hear the loud beating of her heart. Instead she asks, “Like your surprise?”
“I love it,” he says. “What … why…”
Sang Zhi grins. “I’ve missed you.”
It’s a simple enough answer. And more importantly, it is the whole truth. She has missed him. The long hours they’ve kept at work have become unbearable and the very last thing she wants is to spend another night waiting at home in their quiet apartment.
It doesn’t feel the same without him.
“I missed you too,” Jiaxu tells her.
“Really?” she asked and he nods. “I don’t think you do.”
He raises a brow, a smirk on his lips. “Should I show you instead?”
She nods too and wants to say yes but he kisses her and that steals her answer and her breath. Sang Zhi pulls him closer and Jiaxu cups the back of her head as he pushes her back onto the desk. He’s completely got the height advantage on her now, as he hovers over her, one hand pressed flat on the desk beside her head.
She can see a question lurking in his eyes but for the moment, she just wants to enjoy it being them. So she settles her hands on his waist, tugging him closer. Her fingers grab the soft material of his shirt and he starts kissing along her jaw. Her breathing hitches when she feels his lips dance over that spot. She can feel his smile against her flushed skin and urgently starts tugging the material of his shirt up. Jiaxu doesn’t stop her as she bunches it further up. She feels his fingers dance along the hem of her dress and it’s enough to cause the already startling flush on her face to go a shade deeper. She gasps when she feels him bit down on that spot. He knows what he is doing and she’s got no intentions of stopping him.
Sang Zhi is  fiddling with the buttons on his shirt when they both hear something that makes them freeze.
The front door opening.
“Jiaxu!” Someone calls. It echoes across the office.
All Sang Zhi can hear is their heavy breathing and the sudden absurdly loud footsteps. Sang Zhi is certain she hears Jiaxu mumbling a curse under his breath. He doesn’t move off her though. Not yet. Perhaps hoping whoever it is will just go away. No such luck.
“Duan Jiaxu!” the voice calls again.  It sounds much closer this time. “You still here?”
She glances up at Jiaxu, eyes wide in fear. He doesn’t move for a beat before pulling himself upright. He takes her by the hand, righting her on his desk too.
“Boss?”
It’s one of his programmers. Jiaxu was certain he had sent everyone home. He looks at Sang Zhi taking in her dishevelled appearance. There is no hiding what they had just been doing. Her usually pale face is flushed. She’s got the beginnings of a love bite on her neck and Jiaxu is sure he’s in a state no less telling.
There is no way out. Not without Zou Yong seeing Sang Zhi. He knows she’s dressed up only for him and Jiaxu is not about to let her feel embarrassed for what she’s done.
“Jiaxu …” she whispers urgently.
Sang Zhi looks at him helplessly for a second long before jumping off the desk. She rushes to grab her coat and turns to Jiaxu once more.
“Hide me.”
“W-what?”
“Hide me,” she repeats and he immediately looks around the office space for a place but there is none.
None but one. His desk.
They look back at each other as though having the same idea. Jiaxu grabs her hand, leading her around the desk. He stops for a moment, silently asking if she’s okay with this but Sang Zhi is already getting down and under the desk.
Just in time too as a knock comes from the other side of his office door. Haphazardly, he runs his fingers through his hair and manages to barely tuck his shirt back into his pants. He remains standing at his desk, a few random pages in hand. There is a second knock and Jiaxu feelings only minutely calmer.
“Come in,” he calls.
“You still here boss?” Zou Yong says as he enters. “I thought you would be long gone by now.”
Jiaxu appreciates the concern from his younger employee but he also really hates what he interrupted.
“Just had to go over a few details,” Jiaxu says. “Why did you come back?”
“Ah, forgot my keys.”
Jiaxu nods and chances a glance down. He can barely see Sang Zhi, which he supposes is a good thing.
Zou Yong moves closer to the desk and Jiaxu panics. He sits  down and then wonders if that was such a good idea. He’s lost his height advantage on Zou Yong and he’s not sure how much space Sang Zhi has now.
“Oh boss, I suppose now that you’re here I can ask you about this error message I keep getting,” Zou Yong goes on.
Jiaxu gets a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach as he watches Zou Yong pull out his laptop from his bag. He sucks in a sharp breath when he feels Sang Zhi grab his leg. He can feel the bite of her nails through his pants and he quickly moves his chair to cover more of the space.
“Why don’t we sit with it tomorrow?” Jiaxu asks instead. Zou Yong, has his laptop in hand and is already making his way around the desk. He bites down on his tongue when he feels her touch against his leg again. Except now its inching up. He barely covers a cough as she does it again. She is going to be the death of him.
“You okay, boss?” Zou Yong asks looking at him a little more intently for a moment.
Jiaxu makes a show of rotating his shoulders back and forth. “Hhm, just stiff from sitting here all night.”
His remark is met with another lingering touch beneath the table. She’s more confident this time and he almost reaches down to snatch her hand in his.
Jiaxu leans forward, bracing himself on his arms. “Don’t worry too much about the errors,” he says trying to keep a straight face. “I’ll need to have a meeting with everyone anyway to discuss the revisions we need to make so it would be a good time to sort through all the errors we keep coming across.”
Zou Yong nods and for a moment, he looks relieved. That worries on Jiaxu for a bit. Had it not been for the guest he is currently hiding under the desk, he would have given it more attention. For the time being he settles for reassuring his employee.
“Zou Yong, if you’re having trouble with these things, don’t be afraid to ask. We’re all here to help each other.”
“I will … I just don’t want you to think I can’t do it.”
Jiaxu smiles, remembering that feeling all too well. “I won’t. I was an intern once. You don’t get better without learning to ask for help.” He’s glad to see Zou Yong nod and slips his laptop back into his backpack. “You should head home. I’m almost done here.”
“You want me to stay and help you?”
“No!” Jiaxu answers a bit more harshly than he intends too. “I mean … it’s already late and I’m going to head out it a bit. There is no point, really.”
Zou Yong, bless his heart doesn’t question it further. He waves goodbye and is calling out good wishes to his boss as he leaves.
Jiaxu doesn’t breath until he hears the front door close again. Exhaling he all but collapses into his chair, before pushing away from the desk. He finally looks under his desk and sees his Zhizhi, blushing and grinning. They both laugh a moment later.
She’s got a sort of coy smile that is absolutely driving him mad and he knows without a doubt he’s done here for the night.
It’s time to head home.
“You’re trouble, you know that?” he asks, holding his hand out for her to take.
She does and he helps her up. Before she can say otherwise, he tugs her closer to him, and shifts his chair so she ends up in his lap.
“Oh, I’m trouble?” she asks raising a brow. “I must learn it from you, Duan Jiaxu.”
He guffaws. “Liar,” he teases, pulling her closer. He places a quick kiss to her lips.
“That was very close.” She fiddles with his collar, as she asks, “Can we go home now?”
Jiaxu grins. “Absolutely.”
They both rise from his chair and Jiaxu picks up his coat and phone from where he had thrown them earlier. He’s tugging his coat on when he turns back to her. She’s buttoning up her own winter coat, concealing the little surprise she had brought for him.
“Zhizhi,” he calls. When she looks at him, he’s got the softest look in hie eyes. “I liked this surprise. A lot.”
Her cheeks are still tinged pink and he loves that look. “Good,” she says and then takes his outstretched hand.
They head out together, Jiaxu falling behind just a step as they lock up.
“Do I get to see it again, at home?” he asks. She glances at him over her shoulder. He shrugs almost too nonchalantly. She can see the barest of there smirks on his lips.
“Hhm, I don’t know.”
She doesn’t need to turn around to know he’s frowning now. She feels him squeeze her hand, tugging her back slightly.
“Why not? I didn’t get to appreciate like I wanted too this time around.”
“And whose fault is that?” she teases.
“Not mine! Of all the times to be interrupted!” He shakes his head in clear aggrievance.
“Well that’s a good point. Let’s see if we can rectify that,” Sang Zhi says and giggles when Jiaxu rushes them to his car.
It’s a blur of a ride home, but doesn’t matter because she’s hardly got her shoes off before he’s backing her up against the door. They leave a trail of clothing from the door to their bed. As far as surprises go, this one is the best yet.

WIP Wednesday! 💛
Rather than trying to work on where I am currently at in The Perfect Storm, I am instead working on things which fall further down the line!! Let's just say that there is a fanfiction trope which I absolutely adore, and I will be using it for Elyse and Balgruuf hehehe... It's been something I have had planned out from almost the very beginning!!
Tagging people on this for the first time in a while! And I am tagging the ever lovely @thequeenofthewinter and @pitiable-arisen and anyone else who wishes to share a WIP, though obviously don't feel obligated to do so 💛😊
--------
Balgruuf exhaled and ran his hands down his face as he finally sat down at his desk. He had most certainly never expected the meeting to end with that consensus, but if it got both the Empire and the Stormcloaks to stop breathing down his neck about allegiances... It surely had to be worth it. At the same time, he was incredibly relieved that they hadn’t settled on Elyse’s suggestion. Just because it had worked once did not mean that it would work again. There was something about that idea which made his stomach churn and his blood run cold – he didn’t like it in the slightest.
“Um... Now that everyone else has gone...” Elyse whispered from where she was sat, looking nervous as she fidgeted with her fingers. “How do you honestly feel about this plan?”
He looked at her for a moment, before pursing his lips together and folding his arms over. “I would probably have to admit that I am uncertain. I do not know what to think about it, even if the logic is sound.”
For a moment, she was quiet, then nodded. “That’s understandable...” She then let out her breath, and closed her eyes. “I’m scared.”
“You’re-? Elyse, why are you scared?” He rose from his seat and moved to the other one at the opposite side of his desk, the one which was beside her. “You know that we do not have to-“
“I- I think it’s because I don’t know what to expect and it goes against how I usually try to handle things. This isn’t just politics, it’s politics mixed in with... all sorts. And this doesn’t just impact the two of us, it will have an impact on everyone around us.” She inhaled, her body trembling slightly. “Plus you know that I- That I like to handle problems on my own, if I can... But it’s not an option this time. This isn't just something that affects me.”
Her eyes widened and body grew stiff for a moment when he reached out and clasped her hands within his. “We will get through this, Elyse. Together.”

Chasing chapter three - Captain
Tumblr media
Hers would be the first Hogwarts Quidditch team assembled in two years, riding the legacy of the last inter-house clean sweep under a Captain with the same surname. The cup in Gryffindor’s trophy case drew small crowds between lessons, bearing the name of its last champion— the most famous wizard in Europe, the one who’d captained his team to victory and moved right on to saving the world.
Potions and penalties.
Tumblr media
Thanks to those who've let me know you were looking forward to this chapter! Weather's getting cold enough for Quidditch and Hogsmeade; stay tuned for chapter 4...
Playlist can be found here. 💫

🎲 ( from diluc )
Tumblr media
kiss roulette 35. A kiss against a wall
The problem with long distance relationships was time together was a commodity and should never be taken for granted. Almost of Teyvat was Childe's stomping ground for where he could be sent for a mission, and more often than not it meant not in the vicinity of Mondstat to see the fiery winemaker who had thoroughly captured the Harbingers attention despite all of Diluc's efforts to keep Childe away.
This time today was fleeting. So fleeting that he was literally passing through to go to the Liyue port that would take him straight through to Fontaine, and he deviated from his agents for not even thirty minutes so he could hurry to Dawn Winery and see if the slim chance of Diluc being there would happen. He had, out taking care of his horse in fact so the stable would have to do. There wasn't much time to talk, not many words had been exchanged just yet after Childe had tethered Polnoch to a fence post so he could have both hands free to hold Diluc's cheeks while he the redhead Diluc intensely. Pinning him against the stable wall was both to preserve their body heat together but also get that quick bit of proximity to keep him company during time apart.
Tumblr media
And even after a few moments of heated kisses being exchanged, Childe barely pulled his lips away to murmur against Diluc's mouth, at least for now. Leaving so soon after getting here was going to make the goodbye harder, but any opportunity to see his lover was not one Childe wanted to pass up.
"I don't have long firefly, twenty minutes at best. I just wanted to see you if you were here when I passed close enough by."

Smile Shots: Clawfoot Tub
Was thinking of what Diteline Valentine's Day probably looks like, given it is Dite's BUSIEST day of work and often one of the COLDEST days of the year. This was what I thought up! I was a little torn on how it would end up, but I knew for sure they would be chillin in a hot bath together after their long ass day lmao. Please enjoy what I was originally calling A Very Diteline Valentine's Day aka, "Two girls, chillin' in a hot bath, thigh to thigh because they're SO gay". For each other, lmao.
UM ALSO Killian belongs to @lmelodie. I very much enjoy stealing him for a quick mention in situations >:). This is some time in the future (hence diteline marriage! in theory, Dite should be going by Donnie rn but in practise, I entered a fugue state when writing this and went with the present naming conventions), but to clarify: I imagine that blackice plans involve another attempt at reconciliation that devolves into a fistfight 😂😂😂. my GOD their dynamic is EVERYTHING to me 😍😍😍
ANYWAY, formalities out of the way, enjoy! And ah, Happy BELATED Valentine's Day, in all the ways love exists! :)
(would've had this out sooner but I got very distracted by my own romantic shenanigans which involved a lot of Puss in Boots. The last Wish SLAPPED and the first movie was ALSO very good! :D)
---
"This is either a Valentine's Day surprise, OR you have had a very long day."
"Would you believe that it was both?"
Dite giggled, gently shutting the washroom door behind her. She looked down at her wife, up to her shoulders in bubbles, cucumbers on her eyes, fruity face mask all over her face, and kissed the top of her half-thawed head.
"I think I would, yes. But definitely mostly the latter," Dite said, unravelling her chiton. "Wanna talk about it?"
"I drew the SHORT STRAW, DITE," Jacqueline said, her tone of voice reminding Dite of the pouting emoji as she pulled off the cucumbers, throwing her hands in the air and her head back. The wet brown tendrils of hair stuck to her shoulders; above it, the still frozen white strands bounced a little bit, the steam slowly dissipating the snow. "The SHORT STRAW!"
"Oh no," Dite said, folding her chiton and placing it on the weird ledge behind the toilet, her heart shaped fibulae gently placed on top.
"Oh YES! Can you believe it, babe? Even JACK had plans!"
"Oh, cute!" Dite said, tossing undergarments into the laundry. "What are the two of them up to today?"
"I don't know, probably fist fighting in an alley way? I don't get those two."
"Well, love is love," Dite said, gently testing the water with a finger. "And your brother and Killian have a special way of showing it."
"That's a...polite way of putting it," Jacqueline said, eating one of the cucumber slices. "Here, lemme get some hot water back in here for you."
Dragging her leg off of the rim of the tub, Jacqueline leaned forward, turning the hot water tap. She frowned, moving her hand away from the stream that came pouring out of the faucet, looking up at her wife. "Maybe you should test the water. I know it's usually too hot whenever I do it," she said with a small sideways smile, slightly flushed—and Dite knew that it wasn't from the steam.
The goddess smiled, sliding into the bath, and placing her hand under the tap. "It cooled off fast, and you're nowhere near done melting," she said, twirling the cool water tap a smidgen.
"Yeah, it's a cold one today. Very cold. Fucking freezing even. I think parts of Northern Ontario are hitting forty below. Same with the Midwest. There's like two polar vortexes, several flurries on the west coast, so Vancouver is, of course, freaking out," she said with a snicker. "I figured California could use a good scare and flurried there too, since, you know, I got SADDLED with all the WORK! Figured I may as well have some fun, y'know? Goddess of the Springs, I can't believe I got the short straw," Jacqueline said, once again doing a stellar impression of the pouty emoji. "I'm not unconvinced that Mom and Jack didn't cheat."
Dite smiled, sliding down the porcelain wall of the tub, leaning back with a happy sigh. Her wings unfurled, seemingly breathing a sigh of relief and drooping over the tub as the goddess got comfortable, the steam doing wonders to her muscles. "Well, you did an amazing job, blue eyes. There are going to be cuddles ALL OVER THE GLOBE tonight."
"I aim to please AND freeze, brown eyes," Jacqueline said with a grin, eating the other cucumber. "Anyway," she said, still chewing on the slice. "Are you done for the day? Or is this a siesta to see lil' old me? I wasn't sure how late you'd be working so timing the bath was a little bit of a challenge."
Dite laughed, sinking deeper into the tub. The bubbles went up to her neck as she sought out Jacqueline's legs, resting hers against them. She sighed, happily. "In theory, I'm done for the day! In practise, it's hard to say! Mom kidnapped Dad halfway through the morning shift."
"Does Psyche has some fun plans?"
"I guess so! She seemed excited! Anyway, I told them not to worry, I could handle the day. I mean, it's my favourite day of the year after all! Dad said he'd take the evening shift, which starts now, but I haven't heard from him yet so we'll see how it goes," Dite said, chipper.
Jacqueline sighed, sliding deeper into the water.
"What's really bugging you, babe?" Dite asked, shutting off the tap. Water sloshed out of the tub, soaking the stone floor below them. Whoops, Dite thought, watching bubbles float up from the floor.
"I had big plans for today," she admitted with a sigh. "I spent all of last week looking at ancient battle grounds to find some monsters for us to fight together today. I had two perfect locations picked out and everything! Then I was gonna make reservations at the new steak place in the South Province back at home, and then I was gonna book us one of those nice little over water beach cabins nearby so we could sit and spend the evening watching the stars and the icebergs drifting by! But then I drew the SHORT STRAW!" She said with a huff, droplets of water following her arms up into the air, the bath sloshing around her and over the rim when she crossed her arms with a splash, sinking low enough to blow bubbles in the water with her nose.
Dite sniffled. "Awwh."
Jacqueline popped out of the bubbles, looking at the blonde with concern. "Are you—are you crying?!"
"It's just. That's very very sweet of you," Dite said, with a HUGE smile, eyes tearing up.
Jacqueline flushed. "Well, it's your favourite day of the year, after all. And more importantly, I love you! Of course I'd plan something special! Shame loving your partners runs in the family."
Dite laughed. "That's not a bad thing!"
"It is when I don't get to bring my WIFE to the BEACH!"
"How about we rain cheque that?" Dite said. "For my birthday? Or yours, since that's like, around the corner."
"We can do it for yours," Jacqueline said. "After all, I planned it for you and I'm sure you already have plans for mine."
"I do indeed!" Dite said. "Thankfully, I am a planner, and I have a little plan for us this evening given that we both worked late today," she said, watching as Jacqueline's eyebrow quirked up, curious. "I stopped by that place you like in Canada, the one with the really good general tso's chicken?"
Jacqueline perked up, her back straightening. More water sloshed onto the floor. "You got us take out? From the Prosperous Lizard?"
"I did! Extra saucy and extra spicy for you! And, I stopped by all of the random little altars that pop up for me around this time and grabbed ALL of the deserts people left for offerings."
"DESSERTS?!"
"Mhmm," Dite said, nodding. "Lots of cupcakes this year! The usual chocolates, a BUNCH of roses, and, someone left us this," she said. she lifted her hand out of the water, suds drifting off as it glowed a bright pink. In front of her, a plate of chocolate dipped strawberries appeared. "Your favourite!"
"AhhhHHH! Oh my god, you were spoiled this year!"
Dite laughed. "I sure was! Which means that I get to spoil you," she said, leaning forward and booping Jacqueline's nose. "And the people who gave us these? Yeah, they get extra Hedone blessings tonight," she said with the hint of a suggestive smile.
Jacqueline sloshed forward, grabbing a strawberry and devouring it. "Mmm. This is the best," she said, sliding back down in the tub. "You're the best. I love you so goddess damned much," she said, the strawberries drifting closer to her.
"I know!" Dite said, chipper, helping herself to one of the strawberries. "And," she said, her voice sultry. "You'll love what I did with the roses."
"What you did to the. Sorry, WITH the roses?" Jacqueline quite literally squeaked, her voice cracking on the last word. Her flush deepened; the snow in her hair melting a tad bit faster. Dite's lips quirked up, a knowing little smile.
"Oh, you know," Dite said, coy, slowly sliding forward in the tub. "I spread them around the house in all the cozy spots for...ambience," she said, nose to nose with her very red wife. "Around the couch...the bed...and also, here," she said, her voice low as her hand shot up, her fingers fluttering.
Rose petals exploded, landing on the slightly runny floor and floating in the little pools of water caught in the uneven crevices of the stones. Some landed in the tub, the bubbles gently caressing the pink and red petals. A handful landed on the top of Jacqueline's head.
"Holy Hedone," Jacqueline said, flushed.
"That's my name," Hedone replied, her voice heavy and her smile. Well. Cheekily successful.
"Did you—are you. Are WE. Uh. Do you. Are you."
"You're so cute when you're all flustered," the goddess said, rubbing the face mask off of her nose and kissing the very tip.
Jacqueline smiled, this cute, warm, corkscrew-y grin that Dite had only ever seen on her when they were together. She cupped her hands, splashing water on her face and rinsing off the face mask.
"So that's a, that's a yes then?" the sprite asked, her voice going high once more.
Dite laughed, choosing to answer not with words but with a kiss.
Her lips were soft, and warm, and welcoming, and Jacqueline melted into her arms with a sigh, the rest of the snow in her hair falling right off in one go.
---
Later that evening, curled up on each other on the soft couch surrounded by all sorts of romantic flowers, a plethora of desserts laid out on the coffee table, Jacqueline glanced up at Dite.
"You know," she began, "I'm really glad we got that bigass claw foot tub," she said, pecking the underside of Dite's chin. "That was a good investment, one hundred percent."
"Oh my god, right?! I love that we both fit into it comfortably," Dite replied brightly, kissing Jacqueline's forehead. "Sitting in the hot water just being with you is," Dite sighed, happily. "Super nice."
"Hey. I love you," Jacqueline said, burying her head in Dite's shoulder. "Thanks for coming in clutch for Valentine's Day."
Dite scooped Jacqueline up, hugging her very, very tightly. "I love you too! And I hope this was a good one for you," she added with a soft smile. "Even with the short straw and the long work day."
"Easily one of my top three," Jacqueline said, snuggling even closer to Dite with a happy sigh.
"Me too," Dite said, with a soft smile filled with love. She kissed Jacqueline's messy brown head of hair. "Me too."
