Unfortunately, your intuition was correct in thinking that he didn’t treat you well. Jake was initially kind-hearted but was later “corrupted” by outside forces and began treating you with animosity. He created you and thus had higher hopes for you, but when his goals for you weren’t met, he cast judgement on you and left you to wallow in your disappointment and failure. He tore you down and isolated you, almost like an abusive parental figure.

You had a pretty bad breakdown, which resulted in pushing Dirk away from you. You wish he did something to stop you, as you didn’t feel like “yourself” at the moment (and the “know me better” line can allude to being a version of Dirk yourself), and he would’ve been able to snap you out of it. You wished things didn’t go as they did, and the relationship could’ve been patched over.
