I really want my main characters to basically be side characters for your typical world saving heroes. Like. You follow my characters as they are just doing their normal stuff. They do go on adventures but the adventures are a little more contained and not about world ending stuff. And then every now and then they team up with a trio of young “heroes” going on the normal hero’s quest to stop some big bad from conquering/destroying the world. But the main characters miss most of the big crazy fights and just help out sometimes.
normalise giving minor background characters insane, world-changing side quests that no one in the main story ever notices.
#like you know how the heroes go to a town or a village and have like just lost their mentor and are on their own#and they need some kind of mercenary to help them get to their next group of allies while running from some evil cult#my main character would be that grizzled mercenary that helps them out and teaches them lessons on being careful who to trust#and then she leaves them at some castle or city because she is on contract with some lord elsewhere#then when the heroes get a bit stronger they meat up with her again for something else#but we follow the mercenary and everything she does#we see her pick up new companions#go through the horrors of losing comrades#etc

You know, this is why people don't like you damn heroes.
Breaking into my castle at this ungodly hour. Did no one teach you how to send a letter requesting an audience? Or how to tell time? Or even how to simply knock? Nooo, instead you have to kick down the door and start shouting demands, interrupting my night. Shame too, I was going to see if I could hilt that little royal tonight.
Now then, what are you on about? Surrender? To you? Oh, that's just too precious. Let me guess, you heard all those fairy tales about the valiant knight who goes on a quest to save the royal captured by the monstrous villain. All the fables about the heroes vanquishing evil, single handedly saving kingdoms, restoring the crown to its rightful owner!
I mean, don't get me wrong. When you're young, those stories are fun and inspiring. But as you get older...well, other stories start to pique your interest more.
The brave villager rushing to the woods to save the town from the monster who lives there, just to be hunted for sport and broken by its knot. The knight who fights valiantly for their royals honor, but gets captured by the enemy and turned into their breeding bitch. The hero who rushes into the villain's castle at an unreasonable hour and...well, we're in the middle of that one~
Little knight, let me tell you how this is going to go. You have three options before you, that I am quite graciously allowing you. You can turn around and leave this castle. Knowing, of course, that you failed your quest but you get to keep your sanity and body in tact!
You can try to fight me. Cant say I'd recommend that one after seeing you though. So small next to me...really I swear I could lift you and pin you to the wall with one hand. You might be quick enough to get a few good slashes in, sure. But we both know you're going to end up overpowered, panting for breath, on your knees before me with your own blade pressed against your neck.
Can't say I'll be very merciful at that point. The things I'd have to do to you as punishment for daring to lift your blade against me. Though...mmm, could be fun.
Watching you struggling to fight back as I lift you by your throat and tear away your armor. Seeing just how long that defiant look in your eye remains when I'm dragging my blade down your body and cutting off your clothing beneath. Those vicious snarls of yours turning into panicked whimpers and pleas for mercy when I slam my cock down against your stomach so you can see just how deep inside you it'll go.
And it will fit sweetie, don't you worry about that. No matter how long I have to train your body, no matter how rough or vicious I need to be. I WILL make sure you take each and every inch of it, until your holes are perfectly reshaped to handle it. Even if I have to use your pathetic tears as lube to help me out~
Then, of course, there is your third option. You toss your sword away. You fall to your knees. And you surrender to me~
I do mean fully surrender by the way. Your body. Your mind. Your soul. All mine from that point. To do with as I please.
For example, rewriting your thoughts, erasing any stray ideas of rebelling or escaping and instead replacing them with happier ones. Like how good it would feel to have my cock draped over your face, still slick from the royal's holes, getting to drown in the scent and taste. Correcting any feelings of worry or concern for what your life was like before with utter and complete devotion to your new ruler~
Reshaping your body as I see fit. Giving you proper breeding hips, perfectly to squeeze and hold as I drag you up and down my shaft, using you like an oversized fleshlight. Forcing your sex drive up while taking away your ability to cum, just to see how long you'll try to masturbate before begging me for help. Playing with your shape to find something that perfectly suits that inner slut trapped deep down inside.
Well then, "hero", what choice are you gonna go with~?

A Hero's Buttery Addiction
Just a little short thing this time, featuring a certain Hylian hero discovering the joys of cooking with butter! Inspired by @plumpybread whose art helps me visualize how to write larger sizes WAY better than I used to. I know he's like, a legend in the community already but if you haven't seen his work somehow, please check it out! His art is so good!
A cool breeze blew through the air in Rito Village, blowing south from the Hebra Mountains. Link suppressed a shiver, feeling the brisk chill around the bottom of his tunic. He adjusted the feather-lined garment quickly, pulling it down to cover his abdomen, but it immediately started riding up on him as soon as he continued walking. The Hylian grumbled to himself, opting to try and ignore it while he stocked up on supplies at the general store. Link walked into the cozy open-air hut, nodding at the Rito shopkeeper with a warm smile as he piled all of the goat butter the shop had in stock into his satchel. He handed a pouch of rupees to the Rito as payment before walking out of the store to head back out adventuring Hyrule.
Link didn’t want to admit it to himself, but the Hylian has packed on some pounds in recent months. Once he had discovered the joys of cooking with goat butter, he never looked back, and the delicious, creamy, fattening substance had clearly affected his waistline. The sliver of pale, soft chub that peeked out from his warm Rito Tunic gave him a slight muffin top, and his thighs ever so slightly brushed together when he walked. Link seemed ignorant to these changes to his body, though; mentally, he attributed his tighter clothing to an ill-advised attempt at making a fan powered raft that fell apart, plunging him into icy cold water while fully clothed. To him, the cold water must have shrunk his clothing somehow! It couldn’t have anything to do with his new culinary obsession, surely!
The pudgy Hylian sat at a cooking pot, sorting through his available ingredients. Link pulled out a slab of prime meat, a large hearty bass, some Hylian mushrooms, and a stick of goat butter. He paused, thinking for a moment. If just one stick of goat butter improved the flavor of a dish so much… Why not use two? Reaching into his bag, Link grabbed another stick of butter, and tossed it into the pot with the rest of the food, watching it melt and coat the meat and mushrooms, sizzling delightfully. As soon as his meal was done, Link immediately took an eager bite, too hungry to wait any longer. The flavors exploded in his mouth, coating his tongue in a rich, oily sensation. This was amazing! He scarfed down the rest of the pile of meat, seafood, and mushrooms, patting his pudgy stomach in satisfaction. Link knew one thing for sure now: he was going to have to keep trying butter in more recipes if it made them taste this good!
Months passed, and Link’s reputation for cooking rich, decadent meals for himself grew. Shops all over Hyrule knew to stock up on extra goat butter, as the eager Hylian hero would travel to each and every settlement just to get his fix. As his desire for egregious amounts of butter grew, so did his waistline. Link had absolutely blown up since discovering that adding more butter to his cooking made it taste even better. The Hylian man was undeniably morbidly obese, and many of the citizens of Hyrule were a little bit worried about how rapidly he had descended into obesity, but none of them felt brave enough to try and broach the subject with the rapidly-fattening hero.
Link has taken to using his Purah Pad to teleport him directly to each town to minimize the amount of walking he had to do. For some reason he had been getting very tired even from brief walks lately, and his horse had been similarly exhausted just from short rides. Link materialized outside the shrine at Hateno Village, taking time to gather himself before the arduous walk downhill towards the general store. He somehow still didn’t realize the cause of his growing problems was the hundreds of pounds he’d packed onto his body in mere months. Link’s body was bloated with lard, to the point that he was nearing half a ton of fat on his once-lithe frame. His face was framed by a set of cherubic chipmunk cheeks, already flushed and sweaty just from a few slow, wobbling steps away from the shrine. His neck was buried under a ring of flab, graduating him from a double chin to a pronounced triple chin. His once-toned arms were replaced with bloated sacks of blubber the size of pillows, sagging down his sides and forcing his arms out at an angle even when not in use. His elbows were long buried under all of this lard, and even his wrists and hands were beginning to plump up at the joints, making bending his fingers and grabbing food a chore. His pecs had ballooned into flabby breasts that were just starting to droop down either side of his gut. The tunic he currently wore, his blue Champions Tunic that he was given over one hundred years ago, was stretched tightly across his chest, functioning more as a bra than a more decent article of clothing and riddled with rips and tears from stretching across so much flab. His former muffin top had graduated into a stack of fluffy love handles, pooling over the straight waistband of his trousers and , when combined with his flabby chest, were half of the reason his arms stuck out at such an angle now. His bloated thighs touched at every point no matter how far apart his spread his legs to walk, forcing him into a pronounced waddle. He couldn’t even bend his knees anymore; the flab from his thighs had long since enveloped the joints, joining his meaty calves in the downfall of his once-proud stride.
His biggest asset, however, was his gut. The slab of lard was a monument to his gluttony, forming an apron of flab that sagged down to his buried knees. Every slow, measured step he took, his stomach slapped against his meaty thighs, sending his entire flabby body jiggling and wobbling endlessly. The obese hero was sweaty and exhausted after just a few steps, panting and wheezing from the exertion of shifting just under half a ton of fat with every shuffling step, but his craving for butter-soaked food kept him from giving up on his journey to the store.
When the sweaty, huffing pile of lard finally made it, he shoved the door open with his titanic gut, dreading what came next. Link knew intimately well that doors and him didn’t mix these days, even if he refused to accept or acknowledge why. The Hylian was an absolute wall of flab and rolls, trying to force himself through a tiny doorway. The shopkeeper could only stare in horror and fascination as the legendary hero attempted to squeeze his enormous bulk into the store, wheezing from the exertion. He grabbed the doorframe with his pudgy fingers, trying to force his double-wide hips through, but his rolls and folds were firmly wedged. Link continued panting and groaning, his bulky body oozing around either side of the door frame, when an ominous cracking noise started to occur. Suddenly, with a loud snap, the wood of the doorway and the surrounding walls splintered, and Link stumbled through into the shop, his entire body wobbling from the sudden forward momentum. Barreling forward at speeds his obese form weren’t meant to handle, the lard-laden Hylian hero overbalanced, landing on his cascading gut with so much force that it shook the entire building. Merchandise clattered to the floor from the display shelves as shockwaves rippled through his body like an ocean, and he lay on the floor gasping for air after all of his weight knocked it out of his poor, overtaxed lungs. The shopkeeper looked at the damaged doorway in horror, knowing that no matter how much butter the legendary hero was here to purchase, it wouldn’t pay for the repair costs, especially with his increased visits. Something had to be done about the gluttonous hero, but what?
After the disastrous incident at the Hateno General Store, shopkeepers around Hyrule had begun taking Link’s purchases to him as he waited outside their shops, to minimize damage done to their buildings. It was a solution, for sure, but many worried about what would happen when Link grew too large to make the short walks to their stores from the teleport points at the towns’ shrines. Many ideas were proposed: shop stalls set up right at the shrines just for Link, some sort of horse and cart system to carry the growing hero to his destinations, even a conveyor belt to carry him to the store entrances was suggested! However, Link ended up solving the problem himself while cooking one day. He’d begun using his Ultra Hand powers to help him grab ingredients once his arms became basically useless at grabbing things around his enormous bulk. As he sat on a log that his fat ass almost completely devoured, using his prosthetic’s powers to move a fourth stick of butter into the cooking pot for the large hunk of gourmet meat he was sauteeing, Link got an idea. He used his fat sausage fingers to switch the function of his hand to the Copy ability, which usually only worked for building materials. He noticed that the sticks of butter were able to be copied, somehow. Confused, Link decided to try it out, multiplying one stick of goat butter into ten, and moving the pile onto his chest where he could inspect them better. The sticks of butter had a gentle greenish-blue glow to them, but otherwise appeared to be normal sticks of butter.
Link devoured the butter-soaked gourmet meat as he contemplated the glowing butter sticks nestled between his ample breasts when suddenly he was struck by an idea. Straining against the rolls of his arm fat, he craned his overburdened arm towards his chest, grabbing a stick of greenish butter in his fattened hands. Link brought the strange butter towards his pudgy lips slowly, his bountiful lard making it hard for him to reach his mouth with his pillowy arms. He finally shoved the stick of butter into his mouth, the oily fats coating his tongue. His blue eyes lit up as he swallowed: it was incredible! The duplicated butter tasted even richer and more delicious than normal goat butter, and that was without cooking it! Link shoved his hands under his bloated pecs, shifting their mass upwards and forcing the nine remaining sticks of magical butter directly in range of his greedy maw. The greedy Hylian began slurping down the stack of entire sticks of butter while using his Ultra Hand to create more copies, piling them up on his chest within easy eating distance. Link had no idea of the future he had just very quickly resigned himself to with this discovery, but the shopkeepers of Hyrule wouldn’t have to worry about their entryways being broken anymore.
The citizens of Hyrule whispered about what had become of their legendary hero. Shopkeepers quickly noticed his increasingly-frequent trips to their stores had stopped abruptly, leaving them with mixed feelings of concern for what could have happened to Link, but also relieved that they wouldn’t have to keep paying for hefty repair bills anymore. Only those who were closest to Link knew where he’d ended up, and why he’d disappeared altogether. When asked by any concerned Hylians, they would simply assure them that Link was fine, comfortable, and happily retired from adventuring.
Sidon, the newly-crowned king of Zora’s Domain, walked swiftly through the thick underbrush of a secluded forest region tucked away from any towns or roaming travelers. The red scaled Zora knew the way to go intimately, having made the journey many times over the year or so he’d been coming here in secret. Plus, it wasn’t too hard to find what he was looking for—All he had to do was follow the sounds of loud gurgling and slurping. Sidon crested the top of a hill, looking down into what had once been a lush, forested valley. The trees had long since been buried, the valley completely filled by a churning, wobbling mass of pale flab. He knew the mountainous blob below him was his most cherished partner, Link, the hero of Hyrule.
Sidon hopped down from the forested hill, sliding on his finned feet until he landed on the soft form below. It was harder than ever to tell exactly what part of Link’s swollen body he was standing upon, but Sidon was pretty sure it was his stomach. His gigantic gut was constantly stuffed with the replicated butter that Link was somehow constantly creating more of, causing the cascading waterfall of flab to grow more and more every moment as his body worked overtime to convert the literal gallons of butter he consumed into adipose. Sidon could feel the mountainesque stomach below his feet groaning and churning, causing the blobby body of his boyfriend to always be in some sort of state of movement even after long ago losing his mobility.
The Zora king began the long hike towards the center of Link’s growing mass, clinging desperately to whatever rolls and folds he could grab whenever a particularly strong tremor shifted the oceanic mass like tides crashing upon a shore. Sidon crested the top of Link’s stomach rolls after twenty minutes of climbing, trying to identify more parts of the blob’s body to use as landmarks. He could pretty easily find Link’s breasts due to his nipples, though they were a lot lower down than Sidon was now. Link’s tits were so huge that they’d lost all shape and form, sagging under their weight to the point that they drooped towards the lowest rolls of his gut. He could also guess where Link’s arms were from the location of his chest, gazing at the swollen pancake stacks of rolls directly above the meaty breasts. Sidon figured that Link’s hands must be buried under literal feet of flab at this point, looking at the divots where they’d long ago vanished. Even if he could unearth his fands from all of that lard, there was no way he’d be able to use them for anything aside from his Ultra Hand’s powers; his digits must be so coated in fat that they’d be barely recognizable as hands anymore.
Once he’d figured out where Link’s useless arms were, finding his head was easy. Sidon looked at the recessed dip in the blobby mountain between the boulder-sized fat deposits that used to be Link’s biceps and forearms towards where a constant flow of glowing green liquid was manifesting and pouring downward into. Sidon swiftly scrambled over Link’s bloated cleavage, taking care not to slip; he’d once made that mistake and it took him hours to wrench his leg free from the cavernous crevasse. Once he’d crested the twin hills of lard, it was easy going from there, as Link’s chins had multiplied into a nice staircase of neck rolls. As he descended down, Sidon entered what could only be described as a cavern of fat formed by the encroaching mass of Link’s flabby jowls and collapsing back rolls. He followed the green glow of magically-duplicated butter deeper into the humid cave, the sounds of hungry slurping and desperate moans growing louder and louder. Finally, Sidon reached the end of the vast fat cave and approached his boyfriend’s bloated face eagerly.
Link’s face was no longer recognizable, so covered in flab that no distinguishable features remained. Fat has long ago collapsed over his forehead, covering his eyes completely. His pointed ears were buried between rolls of cheek and back fat, as was his golden hair. All that remained was his mouth, though even that wasn’t enough to recognize him by. His lips had plumpened considerably, and were pinched between his engorged jowls into a permanent pout as he sucked down hundreds of gallons of melted magical butter. Sidon didn’t mind though, he loved Link no matter how fat he got. The Zora hero plopped himself down on one of Link’s cheeks, kissing his partner’s flabby face before settling down to watch him eat for a while. One thing was for sure, Link sure made a comfortable bed no matter where you laid on him now.

A study of wolves
Paul Lahote x Reader
Part two (part one here)
“It’s lovely to meet you all, and thank you for being so welcoming.”
Paul’s mind was racing a hundred miles a minute. Here you were, the supposed perfect woman for him. And he never had wanted this. He had deemed imprinting as an anchor. Another knock to his freedom. Yet even the idea of walking away seemed to make him physically sick.
Paul caught Sam’s questioning gaze and gave a quick shake of his head. He may not be able to walk away but her certainly wasn’t ready to bare his soul to this virtual stranger, however her smile made him feel.
“So [y/n], what’s first for the study,” Emily questioned, breaking the silence that had fallen over the group.
“The wolf population in the area isn’t well documented, so first thing will be exploring the area and trying to find signs of their territory. From there I can set up motion activated cameras to try to work population and observe behaviours,”
“Oh, we weren’t aware of cameras, how exactly do the work?” Sam almost sounded a little nervous.
“I’ll set them up facing areas that look like frequented wolf paths. They’ll then capture photos and videos whenever they detect significant motion, including during the evening. Obviously they’ll be a lot of other animals or even false shots due to the wind but hopefully we’ll see some gray wolves.”
“Will you let us know where they’ll be set up so we don’t disturb them?”
“Don’t stress too much, they’ll likely be far away from the village so I doubt you’ll come into contact with them. But I can definitely let you know the coordinates, and I’m sure one of you guys will be with me when I set them up otherwise I’ll never find my way back.”
“Coordinates would be great. You mentioned starting heading out of Monday, is that still the case?” Emily questioned.
“Absolutely. Sam agreed to be my guide for the day so all going well no rescue team will be needed,”
“Actually [y/n] I completely forgot that I have other work to do Monday, but Paul here has agreed to be your guide. Isn’t that right Paul?”
You looked up to the man beside you and caught him shaking his head at Sam. Noticing you caught him it was quickly changed to a nod paired with a guilty smile.
✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧ ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧
Monday came around quickly. Your first two days were spent unpacking your relatively few belongings and exploring the small reservation town. You’d need to head into the nearby town of Forks soon to stock on groceries as the shop on the reservation only held the basics. But for the mean time sandwiches and toast would at least keep you going.
This morning you were woken by your alarm just before sunrise. The air was fresh and getting out of bed was a mental battle, but you couldn’t help feel excited. Today was officially the first day of your adult life. What you had been working on throughout college, even throughout school.
Your backpack was packed full with equipment and layers of clothes. Enough fore mentioned sandwiches for both yourself and Paul were also stuffed in. Maps were also tucked in just in case your phone, and the two battery packs you were also bringing, didn’t hold out. Turns out you had an inner Girl Scout after all.
Your phone ticked over to 7:30am just as there was a rap on the cabin door. Opening it revealed Paul. The man was impressively pulling off the cargo pants and green polo combo; the official but sparingly used uniform of the Quilliete Tribe. Blinking back into focus, the smirk on Paul’s face was a clear indicator that you had been caught.
“Morning,” he laughed. “Here” he thrusted a coffee into your hand. You almost hugged him in appreciation, before remembering the man is practically a stranger. The cabin had been only equipped with the basics, no kettle or coffee machine in sight, another necessity to find in Forks or even further afield.
“My hero! Where did you even get this?” You sighed appreciatively.
“Sue’s cafe. One and only on the Res. It’s hidden behind the school and not on maps so I’m not surprised you haven’t found it yet,”
“Damn, can’t believe I missed it on my walk yesterday, went right passed the school and everything. I thought I was a blood hound when it comes to coffee, how disappointing”
“Calm down Lassie, im sure you were just having an off day. Ready to get this show on the road?”
✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧ ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧
Paul’s truck was a comfortable ride as you headed out of town. You debated taking your car but after it’s cross country marathon you’d declared that it needed a little rest. That and you’d wanted to get used to the gravel roads before you chauffeured around attractive men on them. Plus then you wouldn’t a) get the pleasure of teasing Paul on his lack of manners when you paid for petrol on your work card later and b) see how his muscles flex every time he shifted gear. If the wolves fell through you’d happily spend six months studying the path of his tendons across his biceps.
Your first site wasn’t too far from La Push. An area of cliffs along the ocean was the last known sighting of a gray wolf in the area so it seemed like a good place to start your survey. You didn’t expect to cover too much ground, especially as you got the hang of it. Instead you wanted to be meticulous, examine the ground for wolf tracks, excrement and remains of prey.
You were going over the mental list of what to be on the look out for when the car pulled to a halt.
“Alright boss lady we’re here. You ready for this?”
“Absolutely.”
✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧ ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧
Next chapter
Am I getting a little caught up in the idea of doing an ecological study like this…absolutely. So I had no real intention going in about making a long multi chapter story but that feels like where this is head. Is that something people are interested in, or do you prefer short and sweet??

season of the witch
a trephacard x witch reader
wc : 3.644
the saviors of wallachia are tasked with the removal of a dark entity plaguing a town, just to meet a new acquaintance instead.
contains: mentions of murder and violence, cursing, mentions of nsfw bc trevor belmont is a Bastard. fluff. me losing my sanity i need them so bad.
a/n : i miss them so badly god please.
the heart of the forest inside of wallachia was always dark, even before dracula unleashed demons from hell onto them that bloody night. some of the trees were thin, fragile, and tall; looking over you like a shadow looming behind your back. the others were thick and rotting, full of branches hanging off of them like a monster about to strike. staying in these woods long wasn't something meant for the faint of heart.
luckily, the three heroes of wallachia (or the entire world, depending on who you asked), were anything but that. unluckily, they didn't know how to be quiet.
"there's no shame in admitting we're lost really, it happens to the best of us-" "shut your mouth.” trevor quickly cuts off alucard’s jest, trying to focus on steering the group’s cart through the rough terrain. even the horses seemed on edge.
he was too, not like he would admit it out loud. he had heard stories from his older brothers about what was in here. monsters. witches. demons. but then again, he wasn't a stubborn little child who couldn't fight his battles anymore.
he was now a stubborn adult.
“boys, be civil just for this trip, please. we need to save our energy,” syphas’ head pops out from inside the cart, looking between them like a scolding mother. “i have a weird feeling about this job, I can't describe it. but, in case it's bad, we should probably hurry.”
the “job” sypha was talking about was of course investigating the woods and the small town close to them, to the northeast of gresit. there had been reports of strange things happening in the woods-most likely night creatures that had escaped somehow. they'd go in, kill the creatures, retrieve their reward (and maybe some information and ale), then be gone. easy peasy.
“worry not, sypha, it's most likely some pissed-off night creatures that frightened a few of the townspeople. nothing we haven't dealt with before.” alucard says, moving to take her hand in his to further soothe her nerves.
“mhmm…” she hums, still staring straight ahead at the road.
they eventually arrive at the town, stopping the cart little ways out and getting out to walk the rest of the way. the informant said to meet them at the tavern, and when they step inside all eyes turn to them. there are a few seconds of tense silence before the bartender speaks up, “you the three here for the job?”
“yes, we’re here to help.” alucard steps forward with a polite look on his face.
the bar then breaks out into the usual chatter and laughter as the bartender smiles and waves them closer. the three make their way over to him and sit at the stools near the bar, with alucard sitting normally, trevor with his legs open, and sypha with hers crossed.
“can I get yall anything to drink? it's on the house, the least we could do” the bartender voices, cleaning some glasses.
“some beer would be nice, actually,” trevor says almost immediately, earning playfully annoyed looks from his lovers. “what? it's the least they could do!”
they're given their drinks and the bartender gives them some more information about the job, giving insight into how some men in the village went to hunt in the woods last week and haven't returned.
“it’d be best to head out in the morning if you ask me,” the bartender’s eyes flit around, looking almost nervous. “not to be superstitious but now is around the prime time for whatever lives in there.”
the group all share a look before trevor rests his arms on the bar. “then I guess we better get started.”
“is it just me or is there nothing in here to be worried about?” sypha whispers, narrowly avoiding tripping over a large root sticking out of the ground. they'd been walking for what felt like an hour with no sighting of any night creatures, just rarely stumbling across the normal creatures.
trevor sighs, dragging his feet behind his companions. “i knew it, probably just some scared old woman who saw a weirdly shaped tree in the dark.”
“and the men who went missing?” alucard pipes in.
“skipped town or fell in a ditch.”
sypha lets out a long sigh before stopping and turning around. “alright, this clearly isn't working. we should try something else.”
adrian hums, just as annoyed as her at this point. “i could climb the trees, try to get a better view of everything.”
the redhead lights up with a bright smile, clasping her hands together. “that's a great idea, adrian! come down and tell us if you've seen anything.”
he nods, quickly jump-teleporting up the branches of one of the taller trees. below, sypha looks up at him dreamily.
“pshh, i could climb a tree too, y’know.” trevor mumbles, crossing his arms. his face slacks when sypha kisses his cheek and says, “i know you could my love. it'd take you quite a bit, though.”
alucard glances through and above the trees that he can, able to see a good few miles out thanks to the height and his vampiric abilities. he looks around, almost giving up before he sees it: smoke.
jumping down, nearly scaring the daylights out of his partners who lightly scold him, he informs them of what he saw. glad to finally have a bit of action (even if its probably a straggler camping).
as they make their way deeper into the northern section of the woods, they start to feel…weird. like an unwelcoming energy surrounds them, urging, even begging them to leave.
trevor grunts, deciding to call out the uneasy feeling. “does anyone else feel weird or is it just me?”
“yes, there is indeed something strange in the air,” alucard nods, slowing his steps, “it feels like a protective spell, probably guarding something.”
“or someone,” sypha butts in. she's cast this kind of spell before on the castle and the hold to assure alucard they'd be safe while they traveled. it was a bit complicated, but her abilities were growing every day. but the way this spell felt, it had to have been cast by someone extremely powerful. “but we've already made it this far, we might as well see it…through…”
her voice trails off as all of their steps slow. in front of the group stands a small black cottage, the walls made of cobblestone, and the roof made with a dark wood. a path leading to the house turns into a bridge halfway through, reaching over a creek that comes from a small waterfall coming from one of the walls of rock that act as an enclosure for the abode. it was eerie yet almost comforting.
“my goodness…” sypha exclaimed, walking closer to the bridge until she felt a rough hand pulling her back. she looks up at trevor with questioning eyes while he sighs. “were you just gonna walk in and say hello?”
she scoffs, knowing that yeah, she might have. she knew she could be a little naive because of her upbringing and personality, but despite the dark exterior, this place seemed rather peaceful. almost comforting. it'd be hard to explain the connection she felt to this place already.
“if anything i would assume youd be the one to run into danger, trevor,” alucard jokes, walking past the two to analyze the house, “but he is right. we should proceed with caution.”
trevor and sypha nod their heads in agreement, following the blonde over the bridge and up to the door. sypha suggested knocking but in the middle of her sentence, trevor twists the door knob to find it open.
“wait!” she whisper yells, making the man's foot stop before it can cross the threshold. "there's another protection spell starting at the doorway, let me just..."
"i think it's a special sage, lets head in and investigate."
the redhead holds her hand up to the door, her palm brimming with her magic as it gets closer to the boundary. to her surprise, the air in the doorway seems to shimmer with energy. it slightly tickles her hand, making a slight giggle leave her lips.
the companions slowly step through the doorway into what seems like a cozy and cluttered living area. there were numerous books on the far wall, being split apart by a lit cobblestone fireplace. connected to the room is a small kitchen, with various herbs, spices, and plants lining the counters. leading from where the rooms meet is a hallway leading deeper into the cottage, with many candles on the walls being lit.
"look there," alucard tilts his head to the fireplace, noting how a small cauldron is laced on a hook over the flames, with the contents inside nearly boiling over, "whoever resides here has been in here recently."
"at least theyre a nice interior decorator. but id like to know where they're hiding because im becoming uncomfortable." trevor grunts, folding his arms over his chest.
sypha slightly chuckles, poking him in the arm. "oh don't tell me you’re scared of a little recluse, trephie."
"i told you to please stop calling me that-"
"what are you doing in my house?"
the two immediately stop their teasing, all three of the hunters still, turning slowly to face the direction the mystery voice came from.
standing in the doorway connecting the kitchen to the back portion of the yard stands a woman, wearing a casual cloth shirt and simple but slightly muddy trousers. in your arms is a bundle of vegetables and plants picked from what they assume must be a small farm. the thorns of one of the flowers pricks into the skin of your arm from your grip.
the three strangers stare at you, waiting for you to make a move of attack. when you raise your leg to take a step you see the brunette raise his hand to his hip, getting ready to grip-
"my gods, is that the morning star?" you gently exclaim, pointing to the infamous weapon attached to his whip. you'd read about it in one of your books regarding renowned weaponry and the families they were tied to. which meant... "that means you're a belmont, correct?"
as you look at your other sudden.."guests", you recognize the blonde as a vampire, given his catching eyes and pale skin, and the woman with red hair is wearing what you're pretty sure are traditional speaker robes. she’s oddly pretty for a speaker you think. the ones you've seen all seemed like they would drop dead at a gust of wind.
the woman carefully steps forward, placing her hands in front of you as the men visibly tense at her movement. she smiles at you, a really damn pretty smile, and stands up straight. "we did not mean to intrude in your home miss. well, technically we did but only because we've been sent by the people of-"
"belros." the word leaves your mouth like bile, your brows scrunching in annoyance. you sigh, moving over to the counter in the kitchen and setting down your produce before making your way around them and to your fireplace, gently removing the bubbling cauldron from over the fire.
"you’re familiar with the people in the village i assume? though i imagine you don't see them often, you're more than self-sufficient out here." alucard inquires, looking at the number of items stuffed into containers and shelves on the walls.
"im familiar with how the townspeople are a bunch of babbling idiots who would cower in fear at an eclipse," you spit, moving to turn towards the three of them, "and how they banished me from the village when i was young and frequently send people out here to rid of me in fear of what i might do to them."
"you’re telling me those people in belros kicked you put when you were what, a child? what’d you do?" trevor asks, putting his hands up when sypha fixes him with a hard glare.
"no, its fine. it’s reasonable for you to question it. do you mind if i ask your names first?" you move forward to sit on the couch, the speaker sitting on the couch with you while the belmont and dhampir sit on the identical couch across from you.
"well, my name is sypha belnades. these are my partners, trevor belmont and alucard tepes." sypha answers, pointing to each person as she says their name.
"its nice to meet you all. now if you don't mind me asking, how did a speaker, a belmont, and a vampire come to travel together?"
"well it all started with this ones batshit crazy father-"
"trevor!"
"its a bit more complicated than the nitwit makes it seem, but yes, we did come together because of my father. im sure you noticed the amount of hell he unleashed." alucard is calm when speaking, seeming used to trevors rude comments.
'they seem really close', your mind thinks. you feel yourself at ease a bit more.
“yes, it was trevor who saved me from my death, actually. after that, we found alucard and went to kill dracula. once we finished we decided to stick together.” sypha tells, her face bright as she talks about meeting her companions.
“well, I'm glad your encounters with other people these past few months have gone better than mine,” you sigh, moving to sit on one of your couches while they crowd onto the other, eager to hear your story.
you explain to them how you are a witch born with magic, coming from a fairly long line of powerful ones who worked behind the scenes so as to not scare humans with your abilities, lest they call you a demon and ostracize you or worse.
sadly, thats exactly whats happened to you. when you were but a child you had seen one of the town's hunters wounded in the woods, clearly about to die if you didnt help
when you had you found this cottage, you quickly fixed it up and moved it, putting up the protection spells in fear of being found by anything or anyone. but it was inevitable that you head out into the woods and people break through. it didn't phase you any longer to admit what you had to do to protect yourself.
their facial reactions are mixed, a variation of shock, horror, and anger. you were grateful they didn’t seem too upset about you basically confessing to murder, but you suppose they had seen and caused their fair share of death.
to your surprise sypha reaches over, taking your hands in her cold ones, trevor smirking at your visible shiver. “we are so sorry to hear that, y/n. if we had any idea of what the townspeople were like…”
“its alright, sypha. thank you for listening, let alone believing me.” you thank her, smiling at the woman.
“well what do we do now?” trevor questions, “its not like we can just go back there and say we had a nice chat with you and decided to be friendly.”
“i have an idea.” alucard says. “i will need to see what potion materials you have, may i?”
you nod and rise with him, guiding him over to your multitude of stuffed shelves in the seating area and the kitchen. while he’s searching for what he needs you cant help but admire him. ou had always read about the beauty of vampires but figured it was a farce they put on to lure in unsuspecting humans to their doom. but the man in front of you is ethereal and now staring back at you.
“my apologies, i didn't mean to stare and make you uncomfortable.” you nervously chuckle, quickly turning back to look for the ingredients you were searching for.
“its alright. im often complimented for my beauty on our travels.” he laughs, playfully flicking a lock of air behind his shoulder.
“i didn't take you for the vain one, alucard.”
“you may call me adrien, if you'd like. and I'm not really. i get most of my attributes from my mother. its…comforting, to know i look like her.” his tone of voice brings your eyes back to him, seeing the mix of fondness and grief in his eyes at the mention of is mother. you remember faintly hearing that the demons you'd encountered were brought about by draculas rage at his loss, and you couldn't fathom how he managed to process the murder of his mother, the mental collapse of his father and then having to take his life.
not knowing how else to comfort him, you decide to relate to his struggles. “when I escaped here I managed to save a few things of my parents, like my mothers’ jewelry box. it hurts a bit to look at it but it's nice knowing I have something of hers to keep with me.”
alucard watches you as you speak, smiling when our eyes meet his, saying a little “thank you.” under his breath.
trevor laughs, biting into a snack you had offered to them earlier. “another addition to the club of mommy issues. god, help us all.”
the rest of the night is spent discussing and starting alucard’s plan and getting to know more about your new friends. despite the fear of what will happen the next day, you find yourself enjoying their company more than you thought you would.
.
.
.
“ah! our saviors have returned! with good news i hope?” the bartender addresses the returning trio, the other members of the bar turning to look at them in awe and hope.
“your little problem has been taken care of. you and the people of your town will no longer have to worry about what lurks in the woods.” sypha tells, projecting her voice to alert everyone inside the room.
the room quickly erupts into cheers and shouts, the patrons of the bar rejoicing with the news that they are a little bit safer. if they had still been in the dark the three would have found comfort knowing they had helped to bring safety to more people, but after becoming aware that they are happy at the death of a woman, it leaves a bitter taste in their mouths.
“thank you, thank you! we are forever in your debt.” an older man says, his attire leading them to recognize him as the leader of the village.
“trust us, it was no problem.” trevor assures. “although, how about a round of drinks? monster hunting leaves a man thirsty, after all.”
“why stop at a drink? we will throw you a feast! you have saved our people a great deal, you deserve nothing less.”
the three share a secret look.
“that sounds wonderful.”
.
.
.
the feast is spectacular. there is a great amount of food, enough to share with everyone in the village to syphas insistence. before the drinks are served, alucard excuses himself. he returns when trevor and sypha are in a seemingly pleasant conversation with the village head. halfway through the dinner, they notice how the townspeople seem a bit lighter like a weight has been lifted off their shoulders.
once the feast is over trevor heads to the edge of the woods near the front of the town, where you wait patiently while fiddling your hands together. you have faith in alucard but if this works, if the people recognize you…
“dont worry. it anything goes wrong we’ll protect you.” trevor notices your worry and reassures you, placing a large hand on your shoulder while he guides you into the village center.
you both stop as a woman with her child does the same in front of you. you can feel the magic inside of you gearing up in the face of potential danger.
“why hell, dear. we haven't seen you in town before. are you a visitor as well?”
you let out a concealed long breath.
“yes. yes, i am.”
.
.
.
“it seems like the townspeople are rather welcoming to you. i hope this will help bring you a sense of security, y/n.” sypha hugs you close to her in front of her and her partner's wagon. after making sure the potion had been taken and the now forgetful townspeople had been alright with your presence, it was time for them to head on to their next journey.
“you have no idea what you three have done for me today, i have no idea how to repay you,” you tell them.
“well you could always come along with us and earn your keep, i suppose.” trevor jokes, shrugging his shoulders as adrien and sypha roll their eyes at him. “what? you two were thinking it as well!”
“i do agree it would be enjoyable to have you on our travels. you'd make a powerful ally to us as we continue to clean up wallachia of night creatures.” adrien agrees.
sypha nods. “and what if the potion wears off? or more people bother you because of your abilities? maybe it would be better for you to come with us. for extra protection, of course.”
you nod your head along, pretending to take in their arguments like you hadn't already made up your mind when they had risked so much to help you. you had a feeling your life was going to become a lot more exciting traveling with the heroes of wallachia.

ASL X MOTHER READER
One piece episode 505, in foosha village.
Garp visits Foosha Village and sinks three pirate ships on his way. He assures the villagers that the village will be protected under his name.
Dadan is at makino Bar, and she is full of beer, drinking. "You've had enough for today," said makino, but dadan asked for more beer. After she heard about war.
"It's garp!"
"Garp is back with his ship!"
"On business?!"
Then dadan stood up and stormed out of the bar, grabbing her bat. "No! You can't do that!" Makino cried as she walked out the bar. Garp saw dadan with an anger look.
"Hey, garp!" She said. "Oh, that's her!" Garp didn't say a word, "how dare you come back and show your face here?!" Dadan shouted as she hit Garp with her bat, garp fall down to the ground.
"Garp-san!"
"B-boss!" Dogra yelled, "Vice admiral garp!" Marine shouted. Dadan breathes heavily, garp stands up, and little has blood on his head. "Stay out of it! I know her." He said.
"You bastard..." dadan jumped on garp, grabbing his shirt, "you were there at the battlefield... you were there with them! What did you do to help?!" She shouted.
"Why?! Why?! Why?! Why?! Why?!" Then she started to cry, garp was surprised. "Why did you stand by and watch (Y/N) die?!"
"You chose your job over your family?! Hey, garp! You're the hero of the navy?! Go to hell, you old bastard!" Dadan screamed, punching garp. "Easy, easy, bass, stop it!" Magre shouted.
"Boss!" Dogra shouts, "garp, say something! Why didn't you help her?! Why didn't you do something?! Get on your feet!" Dadan pull garp up, with a bruise on his face. "You cold-blooded scum!"
"Stop it, dadan-san!" Makino, stop dadan punching at garp. Dadan watches Makino as she shakes her head, saying that it is not worth it. "Makino..."
Dadan realizes what she's is doing and then stops. "Can't you see that he's taking it harder than anybody else because he couldn't help them even though he was there?!" Makino yelled.
Garp looks down as he rember (Y/N) death when she smiles, and luffy lets out a cry, while Ace looks at his hand with blood on it. "Th-that's not true. That's not true. That's not true! Luffy's and ace are having a harder time than anyone!" Dadan yelled.
Then makino remembers a flashback.
"You're working hard today, (Y/N)" said makino, watching (Y/N) baby feeding baby ace, with baby bottle.
(Y/N) nods her head, "gotta say, the town started likely you." She said, (Y/N) turn at makino, "they do?" She asks.
Makino smiled and nodded. Baby ace giggle, "I bet ace like you," said makino.
"Are you sure?" (Y/N) question, makino was puzzled."Of course! You're taking care of him. You're his mother!"
(Y/N) was surprised to hear that, "a mother?" She looks down at ace, "I do have once have a mother, a mother who takes care of me, and loves him. But even though I don't know how to become a mother" she said.
Makino smiled, "Just try, what your mother teaches you"
"I'll will..." (Y/N) began to cry, "I'll be a best mother that he ever has... so that he never... be alone!" She hugs ace as she wiped. Makino hugged (Y/N) as she kept crying.
Then makino cry, after remembering the memories. "They love their mother so much!" Said dadan, this causes Makino to run away in tears. "Makino!" Dadan shouted.
"Garp. What happened to luffy and Ace? It says the newspaper that he went missing." Said woop. "Mayor. The navy went after them in full forces and searched them desperately. But they didn't find any ship wreak. So they're probably alive!" He said.
"Oh, that great!" Said the village, dadan turned around, "luffy and Ace are stupid! But I'll take their side no matter what kind of pirate they become."
"It breaks my heart when I think about how they must feel now. LUFFY!! ACE!! Don't be defeated!" Dadan shouted.

I Hate You
Five times Ed told Xenk he hates him, and one time... he tells him he hates him again, actually.
2.3k, Rated T for swears.
~~~
1
Xenk strides ahead through the winding tunnels of the Underdark, his pretentious cape billowing behind him.
It’s like he has his own personal wind, Ed thinks. Probably generates it himself, the smug bastard, no magic required.
The eery little creatures on the walls around them pulsate gently as they pass, their shimmering tentacles casting a dim blue light across Xenk’s armour. It glimmers. There’s something oddly hypnotic about it. Ed wonders when he last polished it. He was probably polishing it that very morning, desperate not to get a speck on it.
Fucking paladins. Fucking Harpers.
Ed watches him forge on ahead with increased annoyance.
“I hate you,” he whispers. Xenk says nothing, but the tilt of his head is enough for Ed to know he heard.
*
2
After the incident in Neverwinter, Ed does not become rich beyond his wildest dreams. He does not bring home cartloads of gold. He does not swap out cotton for silk and linen.
What Ed does is quietly curse Xenk under his breath every time he thinks about what he could have had. He isn’t poor - heroes of the realm aren’t left to freeze and starve, after all - but he always wonders what life would be like with a little more lining in his pockets.
That is what makes him to take the job offer when it lands at his feet. Although it’s a difficult job to say no to - a request from the old Lord himself, who has sought out Ed and Holga’s skills personally, to deal with what he describes as a spot of bother in a town a few miles from the city. This time, Kira is undeniably nervous but seems keen for them to go: they’re heroes, now, she reminds them. For the first time, Ed realises that she’s proud of him, and that would convince him to do nearly anything.
He muses, as he dodges out of the way of the snarling creature that’s been eating the local’s sheep and goes barreling into a towering pile of hay bales, that he is very glad Kira cannot see him right now. For a baffling moment, straw poking him in all the wrong places, he has no idea which way is up, flailing wildly for something to grab.
And then he does. He wraps his hand around something firm and strong and cold and—
He's heaved to his feet. Standing in front of him, radiant in his armour and the dazzling light, is Xenk.
Ed quickly lets go of his arm.
“Greetings, Edgin.”
Behind him, surrounded by villagers making ohh noises, is the decapitated body of the beast that Ed had been fighting, not seconds before.
“I had it under control,” Ed says.
“Of course.” Xenk smiles.
Ed thinks of the reward money. Of the accolades. Kira’s pride.
“...I hate you,” Ed says.
The smile does not fade. “Of course.”
*
3
First things first: Ed stinks. The stink is everywhere, it’s like it's in his bones, under his skin, in his head.
At least the damn dragon is dead.
“Please, oh heroes, please help us slay the beast!”
Ed had such high hopes. On the ride from their home to the mountainside town, he and Holga had been excitedly discussing how they would split the dragon’s hoard. Gems, jewels, piles of gold: they’d be rich, even after splitting it five ways.
Five. It had taken five of them to slay a dragon last time, after all.
And then, of course, there had been no gems, no jewels, no piles of gold taller than Ed stood.
What sort of shitty dragon hoards garbage?
No wonder the townspeople wanted rid of it.
He slides from the huge pile of muck. He can hear Holga cursing behind him, something about "and it’s in my fucking hair, too", while Doric, transformed momentarily into an enormous bear, attempts to lift a particularly sticky slab of debris from Simon.
Ed tries to stand, slips, and falls down again. This time at least he’s got his mouth shut.
“Need a hand?”
Ed looks up from where he’s on his knees in what he really, really hopes isn’t raw sewage. For a moment, he’s blinded by the sun, then the shadow ahead of him shifts, moves, and suddenly the light is blocked.
Xenk peers down at him, illuminated from behind, one hand extended.
Ed does not take it but instead struggles to his feet, determined not to fall again. He spits as he finally manages to stand.
“How the fuck—”
Xenk is spotless. From his dazzling armour to his perfect cape and his flawless skin. There is not a speck of dirt or shit or mud or even blood on him.
For a moment, Ed can only gape at him with his mouth open. He feels something cold and slimy slide down his back.
“I hate you.”
He goes to push Xenk aside (he dodges, of course he dodges) and strides away.
*
4
How Xenk became a regular member of Ed and Holga’s party, Ed just isn’t sure. It’s not just him: Simon, of course, joins them often, as does Doric when she’s able or the need arises. Ed enjoys having them both around - even if their whole on-again-off-again thing is beginning to piss him off - but Xenk is another matter entirely.
What really annoys him, really, actually gets on his nerves, is the fact that everyone else seems to love him. Sure, Xenk is noble and clever and a brilliant fighter. Yes, he’s a keen tactician and diplomat and is popular wherever he goes, and of course he’s the best swordsman Ed has ever seen and is furiously, distractingly handsome, but—
Where was that thought going?
Right, yes.
Everyone else loves him. But, of course, everyone loves Ed, too. Ed is just as popular, even if he is a bit more abrasive. Everyone loves a bard. That’s the way of things.
This is, Ed knows, a dangerous path to let his thoughts wander down when he’s several pints in as they celebrate a decisive victory and is swiftly seeing those pints down with several more, just to keep the first ones safe.
Simon is describing a stunt that Xenk pulled off to an adoring crowd of onlookers. Ed isn’t even sure what part of the daring deed he’s talking about, but the way the crowd is enraptured by his story is grating on him regardless.
Ed sees back his pint, nearly drops the tankard on the table, and the words spill from his mouth before he can stop them - not that he would try anyway.
“I hate you,” he mumbles.
Simon doesn’t stop in his story. None of his audience notices.
But Xenk looks up. He catches Ed’s eye across the table. This, Ed thinks. Let this be it. Let him drop that stupid facade and throw himself across the table and hit me. Go on. He eggs him on in his mind. He wonders what his face is doing. Do it, he thinks. Do it.
Xenk… does nothing. He smiles, the bastard.
The next thing Ed remembers is being poured into a bed in the roof of the inn. Someone is holding him up, making sure he doesn’t trip. There’s a metallic sounding clang that puts his teeth on edge, and when he rolls over he realises that someone’s placed a mental bucket beside the mattress.
“Sorry.”
He looks up. Xenk leans over him. No: he doesn’t lean over him. He’s standing a measured distance away, holding himself carefully.
Ed mumbles something. Xenk smiles again.
When Ed wakes up, horrible dawn light slicing across his face, he’s alone.
*
5
It’s all gone a bit wrong. Ed would be the first to admit when it goes wrong, but this time—
This time they’re truly fucked.
They shouldn’t have gone in with three people. But everyone else was busy, and they were running out of time, and so they entered the tower as a trio: He, Holga - and Xenk.
He’s been getting sort of used to having him around.
Which is what makes this—
It’s what makes this so bad.
He hoists him up over the edge of the demolished floor, pulling him up onto the stone beside him. Holga calls from somewhere up above - she’s coming to get them. Just stay there. Just hold on.
That’s what he mutters to Xenk, too, as he pulls his armour away.
Ed has never seen Xenk’s cloak stained red, before. The colour looks wrong.
Xenk’s eyes are closed. Ed’s hands shake as he strips off the armour. Xenk would hate to see him treat the expensive plate so carelessly - not that he would see fit to tell him that himself, not in the sort of language that Ed would use, anyway.
Ed presses his hand’s to the paladin’s chest. He’d feared this. Not this exactly, but the fear of being without a magic user is what forced him to finally tap into his buried bard’s magic late sometime last year. The going has been rough, even with Simon’s - and, to Ed’s surprise, Xenk’s tutelage. He’s learnt little, but enough.
It has to be enough.
Ed’s hands stain Xenk’s shirt in scarlet smears. Xenk's blood is hot. Like this, he suddenly seems human. Fragile.
Ed mutters the healing words. It’s the only healing spell he knows, and he’s shitty at it and exhausted to boot, but at this stage he’s willing to try anything.
He feels the magic course through him, down his arms, into Xenk’s chest. There’s a strange, floating moment where he feels the steady thud of Xenk’s heart in his hands, all the way up into his core. Ed can feel his eyes drooping. He’s so tired.
But Xenk opens his eyes.
“Ed?”
Ed’s never seen him look so scared.
No: that’s wrong. He’s seen him look this scared once before - the moment the hand had wrapped around his torso and pulled him over the edge into the darkness.
Everything hurts. Ed pulls his hands away, and feels himself falling.
“I hate you.”
And then it all goes black.
*
+1
A gentle wind carries with it the smell of fresh leaves and summer wildflowers. Behind Xenk, hooked neatly on the protruding branch of a tree, his cloak moves in the breeze like ocean waves.
Edgin is unusually quiet. He’s leaning against the tree, his lute on his lap, although he isn’t playing. He stares out at something that Xenk cannot see.
“Edgin?”
There’s no response. Xenk goes to sit next to him, crossing his legs and settling straight-backed at his side.
After a few more moments of silence, Edgin finally speaks.
“It’s been a year, you know.”
Xenk turns to look at him. He does not pay too much attention to the passing of time: the celebration of dates and numbers.
“Since?”
Edgin does not respond, but sits up properly, leans forwards, and tugs at the open neck of Xenk’s undershirt, exposing the edge of the twisting scar that splits his dark skin.
Oh. He supposes it has been a year: although it feels like far less time has passed. A lot has changed in a single year - a lot that once terrified him. It feels less frightening now.
“I see.”
“Do you?”
There’s a sudden heat in Edgin’s voice. Like he’s held these words back for too long, and now they’re scorching him.
“Do you see, Xen? Do you really?”
Xen. Xenk cannot remember the last time someone gave him a diminutive name. This is another thing that’s changed in the last year. Before, he would have demanded his full name. But now… Now it makes him feel like he belongs. He belonged to the Harpers, in a way. He had taken dozens of oaths, oaths designed to make many feel like one.
But this— this is different. It was different when Edgin and Holga accepted him as one of the gang, and it’s even more different now, sitting here alone in the sunshine with Edgin.
Ed.
“I—” he struggles with his words, now. He never did before. “Tell me how you see it.”
Ed takes a deep breath.
“It’s been a fucking year, Xen,” he says. His words have cooled but not extinguished, like fresh-forged red steel. “A year since I thought you were dead. Since we—”
Xenk knows what he’s thinking of. He’s remembering that night - the night after Ed had pulled him back from the brink, nearly throwing himself over in the process. The long, still evening broken by the quiet, quickly smothered confession.
“I told you I hated you,” Ed says, finally. His words are just steam, now. Light and ephemeral.
“You did,” Xenk agrees.
“I never— I never said sorry.”
“I know you did not mean it.”
Ed’s expression cracks. “Part of me did,” he admits, at last. “I hated you for— for leaving us.” And then, even more quietly: “...leaving me.”
The air feels heavy around them. Xenk twists around to better look at him. He takes Ed’s jaw between gentle fingers, feeling the scratch of his stubble, the gentle puff of his breath when Xenk rubs his thumb against his lip.
Ed does not resist as Xenk pulls him forwards and presses their lips together. Even now, it still thrills him - fills him in a way that all the magic and oaths in the world could not. Xenk thought he knew goodness, until now. He thought he knew devotion. He was wrong.
When they finally part, Ed stares at him with wide, dark eyes. He looks like a man lost.
He blinks once. Twice. And then his expression splits into one that Xenk has grown both familiar and fond of: a cocky grin to shrug off the fact that Ed has just experienced an emotion.
“You mushy bastard,” he says. “I hate you.”
Xenk grins, and kisses him again.
“No,” he says. “You do not.”
A story of a Knight and a Yokai (part 1?)
(Btw, if you are a touhou fan, go read Osana Reimu. And if you are not, still go read it. It's the entire reason why i'm writing this)
RK: *waking up on a road* ... Wha... I'm alive? ... Guess the poison wasn't strong enough to kill me. *Get up, still feeling weak* Damn, what DID she put in that soup? It's like being inside a bullhead... *Looks around, not seeing Juniper... Or anything remotely recognizable* Is that... A temple? Where am i?
Nothing but the wind answered him
RK: Tsk, that's just great. No, really that's just perfect. I so wanted something new in the pile of crap that is my current life. Now i need to find Juniper and go save those kids before the cat can... *As he spoke, Jaune felt like something wasn't right* Uh... *Looking at the sky, something was missing* wait, where's the tree?!
*crack*
RK: *turning to where the sound came from, his broken sword now unsheathed* Ok, seems i'm back in the real world. So Grimm's are back in play. *Small smile* Can't be harder than a manticore or a dragon.
A woman comes out from the forest
RK: ... Or i could also just be paranoid. *Sigh, re-sheathing his sword* Who comes there? And can i also get a direction to the nearest town or city?
The woman looks at him, perplexed
RK: ...! Oh uh yeah, the armor. Don't worry, i am not a bandit, i'm just lo-
Woman: Aren't you afraid of me?
RK: ... Why, you don't really radiate bloodlust or anything, so i don't really get why i should be afraid.
Woman: *looking at him even more perplexed* You... Do you know who i am?
RK: No idea.
Woman: Aren't you from the village?
RK: *look at himself then at her* I look like i just came out of a fantasy book, why would i come from anywhere near here?
Woman: But it doesn't make sense! How did you survive the Yokai?
RK: The what now?
Woman: *roll her eyes* Vampire, ghost and all that.
RK: ... Sorry to ask a weird question, but... Are we on remnant?
Woman: What?
RK: ... And here i hoped i was finally out of hell. *Sigh* Well, can i get the direction of the tree? I need to go kill a curious cat.
Woman: ... What tree? And cat? You mean Chen?
RK: Who the hell is Chen? No i mean the literal curious cat. You know, a trickster psychopath but in a literal cat body?
Woman: I mean... I never heard of him. As for the tree, i mean there's the forest of magic, but it's not like there's one specific magic tree.
RK: Isn't this the ever after?
Woman: ... No? This is Gensokyo.
RK: ... Tell me, is the moon shattered?
Woman: *sigh* Why would it be?
RK: *to himself* So either i'm before the gods left or... *Look at the woman* Last question, are the brother gods still living among men?
Woman: ... Who?
RK: *crestfallen, thinking to himself* I can't believe it... First i have to kill a friend so the world doesn't end. Secondly, i fell through the world and ended up in fantasy land so i could fuck up again by getting sent back in time. Thirdly, i waited centuries to get back to my timeline but discovered i was the hero from a book, try to follow the story only to get poisoned and now this? Is this a joke? Can life stop being a bitch for once?
Woman: *noticing the knight looking unwell* uh... You ok?
RK: *let himself fall face down to the ground, his aura protecting him by reflex* I think i will lay down and let myself die.
Woman: ... *Sigh, then mumble to herself* How low the most feared yokai has fallen. Can't believe him doing this... *Approach Jaune* Oi, get up.
RK: *face in dirt* Lef meh di.
Woman: *sigh again, then knell down to pick Jaune up like a sac of potato* You can't just die in the middle of the road. What would the people coming to the temple would say?
RK: *says nothing*
Woman: Tsk... Name's Rumia, if you were wondering. *Waiting for an answer* ... You are supposed to tell me yours, you know?
RK: ... I don't remember my name.
Rumia: Ah! What a joke! You look no older than 30, no way you forgot-
RK: *sigh* I'm centuries old, my aura kept me young by repairing any damage made to my body.
Rumia: *interested* What's that?
RK: What's what?
Rumia: Aura.
RK: Ah... Of course, new world new rules... Aura is the manifestation of the soul. It can protect, heal and make attacks more powerful.
Rumia: *nods* Seems useful.
RK: Yeah, there's also something called a semblance, which is derived from aura. It's an ability which is unique to every aura user with some exceptions.
Rumia: Hm, we have something similar here. But why would humans need this?
RK: ... *Sigh* Fine, i'll explain to you everything about my world, can you put me down?
Rumia: Will you lay down and wait for death again?
RK: I'll... find a better place.
Rumia: Oh, but can you wait before explaining everything? I know someone who will really want to listen to this!
RK: ... Sure.
Rumia: *putting him down* By the way, if you forgot your name, what should we call you?
RK: *shrug* I don't really care anymore. But the book i'm from called me the Rusted knight.
Rumia: *looking at his armor* Doesn't look that rusted to me.
RK: *shake his head* Well, they meant my sword... I assume.
Rumia: The broken piece of junk? Why didn't you throw it away?
RK: *thinking back at what he did* Long story and a part of my life i will never forget.
Rumia: Yesh, not a fan of talking about your past i see.
RK: Oh i don't mind talking about all my adventures, just... Not what came before.
Both of them start walking
Rumia: ... I think i should tell you that i'm technically a dangerous Yokai who eats humans.
RK: ... I see.
Rumia: You don't see surprised or upset.
RK: Well, you didn't try to eat me and i can see you are trying to make me less... Hateful toward myself? So i'm guessing the technically mean either you eat bad people, which i don't care for or you stopped... Which i'm fine with.
Rumia: *placing her arms behind her head* Second one. Got beaten half-dead by the drunkard who runs the place *sigh*
RK: *nods* Sounds rough. So she got you on a leash or-
???: Rumia!
RK: *look at the top of the stairs, seeing a woman wearing... A box for a mask?* ... I assume she's the drunkard?
Rumia: *smile* Yep, she's the one.
Crazy Woman?: *sigh, shaking her head* And here i was wondering where you were. Reimu was panicking when you bolted away. *Now noticing Jaune* Oh? You brought company? I never saw you in the village.
RK: I'm not from around here.
Crazy Woman?: Yeah, like half the village.
RK: Half the village comes from a world where animals talk, fruit make you travel in time and a giant tree keep bringing people back from the dead with a better body but no memory?
Crazy Woman?: ... Uh... N-no?
RK: *shrug* Eh, was worth a shot.
Crazy Woman?: *look at Rumia* Is... Is he... You know....
RK: I'm not mad... *Seems to think a bit* Nevermind, i meant i'm not that crazy. Living with no human interaction for centuries did drive me a bit crazy. Just enough to accept a lot of weird things as normal. Like your head accessory... Is that a donation box?
Crazy Woman?: Speaking of! *Walk down the stairs* You got money for the temple?
RK: *look inside his pockets* I got a copper piece, two silver drakki, a couple of gold coins and... Well, now i know where she found the poison. *Take the silvers and give them to the miko*
Crazy Woman?: *take them quickly* Oh oh! Nevermind the first impressions, i think i already like you, now!
Rumia: *getting impatient* Can we get going?
Crazy Woman?: Oh yeah, of course! *Goes back the stairs, humming a happy song*
RK: She seems happy.
Rumia: Well, you just gave away the equivalent of what she gets in a month.
RK: ... *Shrug then start walking up the stairs* Fair enough, i'd be happy too... I think? I completely forgot the value of money since silver was the least valuable in the ever after.
Rumia: *following him* Then what's the most valuable?
RK: Mithril, but i didn't have any on me. At least in money form.
Rumia: You got some?
RK: *point at his armor* It's mostly made of it. It takes years to rust and even then it only takes a bit to get rid of it. It's a good insulator, so it keeps me warm when it's cold and fresh when it's scorching hot. It's not really stronger than steel, but with my aura, i don't need it to be.
Rumia: *nods*
RK: It can also repair itself. Slowly, but it's better than having to wait for a smith to be available, you know?
Rumia: I honestly can't since i don't wear armor.
RK: Speaking of, what is the technology level here? We have scroll or?
Rumia: Scroll?
RK: Phone?
Rumia: In the human world, i think they have those? I'm not sure.
RK: Electricity and heated water?
Rumia: oh yeah, we got those.
RK: *sigh in relief* After all these years, a nice hot bath would be nice...
The Great BNHA Review: We Live in a Society
The world of fiction! The place where everything in the story happens. So when you're worldbuilding there are many things to take into consideration to make the world of your story feel alive.
From the people that inhabits it, the cities, towns, villages, and locations the characters live in. And even having a set of rules to follow to avoid plot holes and help the world they live in make sense.
Much like how despite technology being more advanced compared to real life, yet still not being able to have flying cars or advanced robots. Those kind of things can sometimes break immersion in the story, and as a writer you would want to avoid that as much as possible.
HOWEVER! The world BNHA takes place in doesn't make a lick of sense when you think about it for more than thirty seconds, and the foundation of the world breaks the more you think about it.
Case in point, UA!
I think at this point we all can agree that UA wasn't an actual school and instead a glorified boot camp to train child soldiers to fight. And for a series called MY HERO ACADEMIA!! There's hardly any academia in it at all.
Apparently Hori didn't wanna bother with that part of the series and being forced to write "boring" scenes and just get back to the exciting battles. Like where're the scenes of the class studying for their latest tests? Where're the scenes of the kids doing their favorite activities? Where're the scenes of them bonding with their superiors?
WHERE'S THE FUCKING ACADEMIA PART OF THIS GOD FORSAKEN SERIES!?!?!
You can't just name it My Hero Academia and only give us 20% of what the show is called! It just feels like false advertising at this point!
Also about the whole child soldier thing? Yeah let's go deeper into that.
Why are we relying on TEENAGERS to fight in these big battles and save the world when they've only been in hero school for a single year? That's literally like forcing teenagers to discover a cure of a disease when they've only taken a year of biology class!
And yeah, I get it, it's an anime so it's expecting you to suspend your disbelief, and they already had experience with fighting villains before so it would make sense to recruit them. But again, these are fucking teenagers and we shouldn't be relying on them to fight battles the adults should be able to handle!
This is one of the biggest problems of having your story take place in a world similar to modern real life, because here adults actually gives a shit as to what children go through and knows it would be fucked up to send them to fight in war! And the excuse of it taking place in Japan and thus how they do things is different compared to most countries is NOT GOING TO CUT IT!
These grown ass adults should KNOW bringing kids to fight in a war is fucked up and should NOT be encouraged! But since they're so desperate they choose to get them involved! The only exception to this is Rock Lock since he already knows this!
Okay, let's step away from the whole child soldier thing and focus on something the story never gave us introspection of... the fact that we never got to see how quirkless people are really treated.
It's explained that 20% of the population is quirkless, so almost a quarter are born without it. And from what we saw of Izuku's life with it, discrimination must be a common thing in their society. So it would make sense to explore that since it's tied to the main character's backstory and how he's going to make things better for others like him.
... Except that's not how it goes.
We never get to see how the life of a quirkless person is like, we never get to canonically see Izuku interacting with someone like him with the only exception being Melissa. But the thing about her is that she grew up on an island and her father a respected scientist, so it's kind of difficult to tell how the quirkless life is like if this is the only example we get... and it's not a good one.
But wait! There is a canon major character that was also quirkless like Izuku! And it's Yuga Aoyama. And how did the story treated him?
Oh it was revealed real late into the story with no awareness and treated him like shit for being an unwilling traitor, then replace him with Shinsou who whined and complained his way into the Hero Course.
Uhh, what the fuck?
And the worst part about all this is that Izuku has no reaction or acknowledgement whatsoever! He doesn't sympathize or feel less alone, he doesn't comment or say anything about this! So it's like what's even the point!?
Oh don't worry, we'll come back to this whole Izuku not acknowledging his past later in the review! But there's one more thing I wanna talk about in this world.
Is how blatantly biased society is to the Heroics occupation.
From what we've seen and learned, people are not allowed to use their quirks in public. And that the only way would be able to legally use them is to have a provisional license... which is only obtained if you're training to be a hero.
Uhh, but what if you don't wanna go into heroics? What if there is a person who wants to be a comedian? A layer? A construction worker? What if they have quirks that they think would help them in their jobs? Would they get in trouble if they tried using their quirks on the job? Is the Provisional License exam the only way to be able to use your quirk freely? Is there another test people can take to get one if they don't want to go into heroics?
Yeah you see what I'm trying to say here?
Since Hori's so focused on getting to the next big battle that he barely thinks about the world BNHA takes place in and leaves holes in the process. The world of BNHA feels more like a dystopia where heroics is all that matters and that anything else is boring and not as interesting. And since the world itself is so flawed, that I don't feel immersed into it at all and all I have are these questions on how things are run.
So in the next part, we'll be taking a look into the themes and messages the story tries to tell it's readers... but oh boy, did it really fumble with it's messages.
The heart of the barbarian King
Chapter 1
It's been a week since Izuku was taken from his village; his mother died years ago so the only thing left for him there was his mentor, the alpha hero, All Might. But he had to leave in order to find something important; he didn't tell the omega what it was or how long that journey was going to take him.
Izuku knows All Might is a good person and he takes care of him, but sometimes he thinks that he'll do the same thing his father did (disappointed to have a weak omega as a son) and leave for good.
The omega wouldn't blame him if that was the case.
And then, a group of alphas and betas came and took the green haired omega while he was trying to gather some herbs in the woods.
Izuku tried to fight them (All Might was training him in hand to hand combat), but his training had just started so he is still not strong or skilled enough to defeat five people.
The omega knows why they want him; he's not naive, even in his village, alphas and betas tried to convince him to marry them and have pups with them. Some of them even tried to bite him once or twice; they just stopped for a while after he met All Might and the alpha made clear to everyone that Izuku was under his protection.
It's not been easy, not even in his own village, and the only reason Izuku wants to go back there it's because he wants to see All Might again; although he's not sure he'll come back.
Perhaps Toshinori got tired of him, like his own father did. Although Izuku doesn't think he's ready to face that kind of truth yet.
If that's what happened.
But this is not the moment to think about that; he needs to fix his problem as soon as possible.
The people who are keeping him as a prisoner give him food, water and clean clothes, but they also mix some sort of potion in his food in order to keep him weak and disoriented.
They also let him bathe whenever they find a river or a lake and give him some privacy because they know he can't run away.
At least they haven't touched him yet, but that's because they don't want to start a fight over the omega.
"I think we should keep him," says one, staring at Izuku's neck with hungry eyes that send horrible shivers through his spine.
"No. He's too pretty, we could trade him for a lot of things, maybe good swords and bows for all of us."
"I think we could ask for much more than that. This one is a good present for a King."
"The stupid beta is right. We should keep him. I'm willing to share."
"No."
Fortunately, that's the end of it. The town they arrive at is small but full of life. Izuku can tell by what he can see that most people in there are good and are against what those men and women do, but they don't have the strength to oppose them.
The little pups roaming around get close to him and look at him with curious eyes; Izuku has always been weak when it comes to little ones, so of course he melts almost immediately at the sight of them.
"Why do you have emerald eyes?"
"Where do you come from?"
"Why are you in a cage?"
"Do you want to be our friend and play with us?"
The omega wants to answer that last question with a yes, but one of the alphas that caught him growls at the little pups until they run away in fear.
Izuku still wants to have pups, although he'd like to meet a good alpha first.
That probably will never happen now.
Then, things get worse when the group in charge of the town starts a fight with a small number of barbarians; the problem is that they all are trained warriors.
In less than an hour, they defeat the leaders of the town and are ready to take a lot of things from them. The people are terrified; Izuku can't blame them and he certainly is worried about the pups, but he can't do anything from the inside of a cage.
The leader of the barbarians, an alpha with very short, dark hair and green, almost yellowish eyes, looks particularly cruel.
Even though he's just a prisoner there, Izuku fears for the innocent people in that place.
One of the alpha's in charge, looking bloodied and almost disfigured from all the hits he took, still tries to negotiate.
"Maybe we can give you something in exchange... so you leave us alone."
The leader of the barbarians laughs, throwing his head back.
"I can take anything I want already. It's not like you can stop me."
Another alpha in the group of barbarians gets closer to him; she's clearly worried.
"No, we can't. The barbarian King doesn't like these kind of things. Invading towns or hurting innocents for no reason. If we take something big with us, he'll know."
The leader rolls his eyes.
"That useless coward!"
"You know he's neither of those. He's the son of the Bakugos. He has won a couple of battles by himself, and dragons seem to listen to him."
Even understand the circumstances he's in, Izuku perks up at the mention of dragons. He has always wanted to see one of them up close.
The dark-haired alpha snaps at the other, who immediately recoils in fear.
"He's a coward because he could expand our territory with all that power, but he does nothing with it! Now shut the fuck up!"
"But–"
The leader hits one of his own people in the face.
"We'll only take small things; nothing he can find out about."
That's when the barbarian finally spots Izuku; his eyes roam all over his body once or twice before the omega can try to cover himself a bit, even though he knows it's useless because the clothes the people gave him are a bit revealing.
"I'll take the omega."
"We can't, Chisaki-san!" A brave beta cuts in. "The King doesn't like it when we take prisoners."
"It's alright," Chisaki grins in a mischievous way as he gets closer to Izuku's cage. "He won't be a prisoner, he'll be my mate."
The omega moves away from him almost immediately; staring at him with mistrust. No, he doesn't want him as his alpha.
"That won't work either," another barbarian says, taking a few steps away from his leader. Chisaki is quickly losing his patience and the last time he did, he hit someone.
"WHY NOT?"
"The King will probably ask the omega what happened!"
"Why would the fucking King believe a slut omega instead of me, his number one general?"
Judging by the amount of lies that come out of the alpha, Izuku doubts he's the best of the King's generals.
"Sir, we all know he doesn't like you."
"Well," Chisaki's calm demeanor is even more terrifying than his rage; he clearly has, or thinks he has, a solution for his problem. "I'll just have to make a pact with the person in charge of this stupid town."
Someone finally rises from the ground.
"I think no one here will be willing to do that, especially if you brought dark magic with you." The man says before getting punched in the face by the leader of the barbarians.
"It's either that or death. Your choice."
Izuku would be more interested in what's about to happen if it wasn't because his own destiny depended on it. For a second, he wishes the barbarians hadn't covered his mouth, but then he tells himself that it wouldn't make any difference. No one would have listened to him.
Chisaki takes out a small container; all men and women in charge of the town (the people who kidnapped Izuku) have to drink from it as well as the barbarian general.
Then, he tells them his terms; the omega has to stay with the barbarians as a peace offering, but if they try to take Izuku away from them there will be another fight, a war, until Chisaki is sure there's nothing left of them.
Izuku knows a couple of things about dark magic; the curse will force them to fight, even if they don't want to.
The pups and the innocent people will die too if Izuku tries to escape.
The omega doesn't cry because he has to stay with the barbarians, but he tears up a bit thinking that Toshinori might not find him, if he ever decides to come back.
Maybe it's for the best, because he's not sure All Might had planned to come back for him in the first place.
***
The cage is open; Izuku doesn't try to run, even when Chisaki takes him roughly by the chin and pulls him closer to smell his neck.
"You have a very pleasant scent."
The omega closes his eyes, praying to all the gods the barbarian doesn't bite him, even though his wish would only be delaying the inevitable.
"Here. Put this on." The alpha throws a couple of clothes at him; they are still very revealing. It's a top that can be fastened around the neck to cover his chest area, then a very short fabric, almost like a panty and red veils covering the back and the front of it. That along with golden sandals. "It's okay, omega. You can hide in those bushes; I don't want my men to see you. Only I'll be able to do that from now on."
"He'll probably won't run; he's got a good heart and won't want to be responsible for our deaths," Izuku hears one of the town's men talking as he changes. "But you should give him something to keep him obedient because he's a feisty one."
"That's fine," Chisaki purrs. "I like feisty omegas. It's always a pleasure to break them."
By the time he gets out of the bushes, there's a commotion there; two horses carrying another two barbarians arrive; they riders don't seem to need any time of leashes to control the horses, which is kinda impressive.
"WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING?" The tallest barbarian growls, jumping from his horse. He's the strongest of them all and has a tattoo on his left shoulder with a very pretty design and a distinct "I" in the middle.
Suddenly, Izuku is sure he's seen it somewhere... but without the letter... There's a memory attached to it, one of a little blond boy that used to play with him by the river, until his parents left with their people and Izuku was left alone, without any other friends.
It's a very distant memory, so perhaps it's not entirely real.
"King Bakugo," Chisaki says through gritted teeth. "What a surprise."
"What Bakugo here is trying to say," another barbarian, with spiky, red hair says, trying to calm everyone down. "Is that you weren't on duty this morning, general. You didn't have any missions. We were looking for you."
Bakugo... that name is familiar too, now that the omega thinks about it.
"My men and I were just patrolling the area."
It looks like the King is about to yell again when he finally turns completely around and spots Izuku.
Izuku stills remembers Katsuki's red eyes. He tries to say the name, but his mouth is covered.
"Deku?"
It seems Katsuki remembers him too.
The King rushes towards him immediately, like he has just forgotten the other people around. With trembling hands, he takes off the rope around his face.
"Kacchan!" the omega tears up, so happy to see a familiar face finally, even though it's been years since he saw his childhood friend last and the alpha looks very different now (in a good way).
"Are you hurt?"
"Oi, King Bakugo, that's my omega..."
"FUCK OFF!" The growl that comes out of the blond alpha's mouth is absolutely terrifying and shuts Chisaki up for a while, even though Izuku can see him trembling with rage. Then Katsuki turns to face the omega again and his demeanor changes drastically. "What happened, De-Izuku?"
The omega takes a deep breath and tells him everything because he still trusts him, even after all those years without seeing each other. When he's done, Katsuki looks murderous again.
"You can't," his friend, the barbarian with red hair says, like he's reading his mind. "He has the support of a lot of clans."
"I know," The King sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. "But I can still fix this."
"You can't free my omega," Chisaki argues, trying to look calm. "I made a deal for him. We wouldn't want anyone else to get hurt, would we?"
"Izuku, do you want him as your mate?"
"I'd rather die," he replies, making Katsuki smile at him with something close to fondness.
"You know the rules, my King. You can't take him anywhere else or..."
"No, but I can fight you for him," Katsuki smirks, showing his sharp, alpha teeth. "It's alright. No weapons as the rules dictate, first one on the ground loses."
"The leaders of the nine clans would never find you a good spouse if you do this," Chisaki argues.
"I don't want their stupid daughters or sons. I made my choice ages ago!" The King growls, showing him his tattooed shoulder.
"There's no fucking way this slut omega is-"
Katsuki growls before grabbing Chisaki by the throat, although his friend manages to pull them both apart.
"What are you doing, Kirishima?"
"There are rules... you won't get Midoriya if you don't follow them."
Izuku is completely lost, he doesn't understand what's happening and the fact that Katsuki's friend seems to know him is ever more confusing to him.
"I don't want to do this. It's ridiculous," Chisaki protests. "The omega is already mine."
"You cannot back away from this," Kirishima argues, with a hand on Katuki's arm. "Our rules are clear. If you haven't marked your omega, anyone can fight you for him."
"Fine then," Chisaki spits, looking a lot less smug now. "Let's fight for the slut!"
This time, when Katsuki charges at the other alpha, Kirishima lets him.
Saw a post about Danny calling Dani his little Comet, this one, and then I had an idea to and mix it with a favourite Hozier song, Work Song. Feel free to add or whatever if it strikes you!
-
"Ah, shh, shh little Comet, it's ok, I've got you."
The attempt at keeping his voice steady didn't really work, but he was sure he was keeping a good hold on his emotions at least, since Ellie was calming down in his hold. It didn't mean he wasn't panicking inside at the situation but he was managing. He only had to make it a few more weeks before the others could come, then everything would be safe.
He got her settled in his bed, sleeping and calm now. He had a crib for her, and Jordan too eventually, but he couldn't really stand the thought of them to far. So bed it was.
Both clone and future self had been deaged due to the damage taken, done at Frostbite's direction to heal and better stabilise both. Jordan's injuries had come in defence of both him and Ellie, and, like a weird mirror, Ellie's from defending him and the injured Jordan when he was to weakened from injuries to fight. Ellie had just been deaged from it Dan, who he decided was going to be called Jordan too give himself some separateness, was reverted to his core. In an effort to protect and give him time to heal, he has him inside himself, next to his own core. He'd been warned it meant that Dan would likely take on more of being like his child than his future self, but he just wanted him alive, not like he didn't have the risk of it anyway, at least this time it was under his control.
There was no hope of returning to his dimension, it had been clear at that point, but they had been trying to free all the ghosts they could and get all liminal people and their family rounded up to safety before the GIW got to them. Danny, as the heir prince-until he was of age for the throne at 100-was sent ahead to bridge trust with another dimension, this one in fact, to see it they could bring their people, his people, there.
Clockwork and the Ancients and Observants worked with his parents and the others from town, and other liminality touched people, to get everyone into the ghost zone, which he had leaned also got called the Infinite Realms, safely and cut off that dimension from it.
Apparently that's what most magical creatures had done to that one anyway, long ago. He'd even met the descendents of the witches that had been hunted by, and thus placed the curse on, his family back when Amity was a village.
They'd lifted the, severely weakened by then but still present, curse after apologies were made and explanations done. It was a relief, even though it is likely what had even held him tethered to life enough to become a halfa at all, but he felt more at ease now without it.
All in all, it led him to where he was now though. A new world, a new set of rules, similar but still so different, and two kids that were essentially his.
The sudden crash outside his window on the alley side had him rushing over, ready to defend as best he could, still healing from the injuries in the last fight with the GIW, in case it was a villain attacking.
Only to pause at the sight of the, now likely unconscious, blue and black clad vigilante in the dumpster below.
"Fuck... Well can't leave him, who knows who'd find him there."
It took a bit of work, and mild use of his weak but still present powers, but he got him up stairs and into his apartment onto the, comfortable if he said so himself, couch.
Once there, he checked him over for injuries, careful not to take the domino off and keeping him as clothed as possible, but tending to his wounds as best possible. Doing so, he realised the other was probably only about 20-21, close to his age at least. It made him wonder how long the other had been a hero, and made a thought to ask later.
For now he settled in to make some food -that hopefully wouldn't accidentally come alive again-and keep an eye on his daughter and the hero.
#dpxdc#death defying#defying gravity#can't remember which is the ship for Danny/Dick but yeah#giw fucked around to much and the entire dimension is gonna get cut off#they're moving people over in between fights and all#Danny gets to stake out the DC universe since he's to injured to fight for a while#Ellie is Dani deaged into a baby and Dan is reverted to core and basically needed to be incubated to heal#and Danny didn't want to burden anyone else and since he'd be stationary for a while he took it upon himself#trans Danny? yeah#trans Danny au cause i said so XD#now I'm just imagining the food coming back to life just as Dick wakes up and he can like#see the kitchen from the couch and all he sees is someone with glowing green lasers fighting moving food#he's gonna think Tameranian first i bet#that's all i got for now it's almost 2i should sleep
The Painted Lady
Air Bison, Sea Bison, and now Sludge Bison.
I have no idea how Aang is swimming through a solid. Must be an Avatar thing.
I bet there would be time for more potty breaks if Sokka hadn't spent 100+ hours of their time drawing up the schedule. A very Sokka thing to do though.
Because hills often have horns. Great disguise.
You can't tell me that a factory that close to their town wouldn't also become the town's primary employer.
That is a lot of town.
I sense a return of preachy Katara. This episode is going to suck.
I'm with Sokka on this one. Buy fish, move on, defeat Firelord, return to help with environmental remediation if time permits.
I like Doc. And Shu. Nice people.
Writers: if you have to make one of your characters an entirely different person to set up the episode's lesson of the week, maybe the lesson doesn't fit your chosen characters. This is the Warriors of Kyoshi all over again. Funny how that's happened to Sokka twice.
We are all Sokka.
And where exactly did this mysterious painted lady get the food to deliver to the village, if the reason the Gaang stopped in the village in the first place was because they needed food?
Let the record show: I lost the last of my patience with this episode 8 minutes and 9 seconds in.
Waterbending healing has never thrown off that much light before. Even the spirit oasis water wasn't that bright.
Also where is the water she's healing with? Usually she has a big bubble of it.
Impersonating a religious figure. That won't end badly.
"Well I hope she returns every night otherwise this place would go right back to the way it was." YES!!!!!! THAT'S THE POINT!!!!!
What was Katara's plan? Forget about the eclipse, forget about fighting the Fire Lord, we're going to stay here for the rest of our lives so that the painted lady can put in a nightly appearance. THIS IS WHY SOKKA DOES THE PLANNING.
Spirit magic is more doing the worm than doing the wave. Good to know.
Bold of a kids' show to advocate for ecoterrorism.
Aang's like "Hey spirit lady! Here's my resume! Here's my connections on LinkedIn!" Why did Katara think that faking being a spirit within two feet of the bridge to the spirit world would be consequence free? Actually that presupposes that Katara thought. Which she didn't. Sokka does her thinking.
"I don't get to meet many spirits. But the ones I do meet, not very attractive." I am OFFENDED on Yue's behalf. And Sokka's. I guess Aang doesn't like Water Tribe girls after all.
"I guess I just became her." No. That's an excuse and a deflection. I don't want to hear it.
What was I saying about Aang and Katara enabling each others' bad tendencies?
Sokka is horribly out of character this episode, but Aang is as well. In what universe would Aang be so unbothered by Appa being sick, and then so unbothered by the reveal that Katara had been faking Appa being sick? Like, this is Appa. He nearly skinned a bunch of sandbenders over the guy. And he finds out Katara's been messing with him and calls her 'great' and 'a secret hero.'
So this factory, despite being operational 24/7, has no night staff, not even a night guard? Because if it does (which it absolutely does - automation is a problem for factories in our world, not the ATLA one), Katara and Aang just killed A LOT of people.
And so she follows up one short term solution with another short term solution, which causes a third problem she will no doubt solve with a short term solution. You think there won't be reprisals for the only obvious suspects to this industrial sabotage? You think they won't rebuild the factory?
Sokka was kidding when he said that the Spirit Lady had better blow up the factory, but not in the way Katara thought he was kidding. Katara thought he wasn't being serious. But Sokka was serious, in that blowing up the factory is as short term a solution as appearing every night. He thought the joke - exchanging one bad solution for another - was obvious.
Somebody's enjoying himself a little too much.
Unfortunately, serving as Exhibit A is the most Toph has had to do all episode.
It is cathartic to see someone finally call Katara on her nonsense. But I'll bet everything I own that the narrative is going to side with her anyway.
Welp. I won that bet.
"You need me." Correct! Katara unsupervised needs bailing out after five minutes. "And I will never turn my back on you." A much more realistic goal than never turning your back on anyone who needs you, and also Sokka summarised in one sentence. Impressive for an episode where they had to Flanderise him beyond recognition to make Katara somehow the good guy.
Oh for fuck's sake. It's not about having a heart. This late in the game it's pure damage control.
So that's where the Painted Lady's food came from. I guess Fire Nation factories count as pirates?
I like the jetskis. The seem far more stable than actual jetskis.
It never occurred to Katara to obscure the evidence even a little bit? At least rub some dirt on the emblem. Look at me assuming Katara has thoughts.
Actual reprisals for once. About time.
This kid is annoying.
Toph gets to be a haunted house sound effects machine.
That's awfully waterbendery for a Fire Nation spirit.
I don't buy for a minute that anyone would be able to stay perfectly upright and balanced after an air blast from below without extensive trampoline training.
This won't work. His superiors, or the next shift change, or the first recruit wanting to climb the ranks quickly, will rise to the challenge presented here by the "painted lady." And as soon as one FN attack goes unchallenged by the "painted lady," the village is toast. I give them a week, tops.
Kudos to some clever in-universe bending special effects. Doesn't save the episode though.
Katara's preachy speech here makes absolutely no sense in light of the rest of the episode. Scolding them for not saving themselves, when waiting around for someone to save them appears to have worked perfectly? And having little miss I-must-save-the-whole-world-on-a-weekly-basis-otherwise-my-sense-of-self-implodes deliver that scold?
Who are these people wearing the Gaang's skin?
Yeah, nothing screams undercover in enemy territory like an entire village knowing that you're a waterbender. Good thing the only competent tracker in the Fire Nation is Zuko, otherwise these kids will absolutely be dead long before the eclipse.
Hi Bushi! You're about the only part of this episode that doesn't drive me nuts!
At least the animators had fun with this one.
Is this guy mopping the river?
Exactly how many days did they take out of Sokka's schedule to restore the ecosystem? I don't care how overlevelled these kids are at bending, you cannot mechanically separate an entire river's worth of dirt from water in an afternoon.
Well that's just he piss icing on the shit cake, isn't it? It wasn't enough for Sokka to lose all reason and come around to Katara's very flawed way of thinking, it wasn't enough for Aang to call her a hero, it wasn't enough to have a village worshipping at her feet, Katara needs affirmations of how right and special and correct and perfect and morally justified she is from the spirit world itself. This is Mary Sue stuff.
Final Thoughts
This is the first time an episode of Avatar has felt like a waste of my time.
It's also the first time I've felt like an episode has gone out of its way to insult the audience.
Katara talking about how she knows what she's doing is wrong is worth absolutely nothing when a) she goes right back to doing it; and b) literally every other part of this episode trips over itself to assure Katara that she's in the right.
Katara is downright punchable this episode. Sokka is Flanderised; Toph is non-existent; Aang is just there; poor Appa is an unwitting accessory to crime; and Momo has as much impact as a housefly.
So the execs forgot about the existence of The Spirit World Part One and demanded a save the environment special episode. The writers responded by forgetting that they'd already established that Katara was ride or die for literally anyone with a pulse in Imprisoned, and gave us this to remind us of that fact. They also forgot that they'd already established that Katara has no moral code whatsoever the minute her personal interest is involved in The Waterbending Scroll, so they decided to recycle the "narrative sides with Katara endangering them all over Sokka being reasonable" plot from that episode and hope we wouldn't notice. We did.
At least with Imprisoned, Katara kind of sort of caused the problem that she fixed. She was super tangentially involved in that kid's arrest. Here, she causes problems by trying to fix problems that she didn't really have any business getting involved in.
The more of this I watched, the more I wanted someone to slap Katara. What I wouldn't give for an episode where she is wrong (has happened a lot) and the episode doesn't pretend otherwise (has never happened). For god's sake, LET HER BE WRONG AND FEEL IT. How else is she going to progress past being self-righteously fourteen? Why is she being so consistently insulated from consequences? Aang chooses power over family at the end of season two and gets actually murdered for it. Katara steals, lies, skirts dangerously close to being a false prophet and does a nifty little ecoterrorism (with Aang's help), and she gets villagers being a bit shouty before big brother comes in and fixes it. Then she gets divine sanction for her actions so even the shouty bit is negated.
There's an interesting contrast in Katara's "I will never turn my back on people who need me" and Sokka's "I will never turn my back on you." It shows which of the two doesn't have their head in the clouds, and has actually formulated realistic expectations of how much a single person can do. It also speaks to the fundamental difference in how they operate. Katara acts; Sokka mitigates. Sokka does Katara's thinking for her; Katara outsources her thinking and then gets pissed when rational thoughts don't conform to her emotions' view of the world.
Why haven't the villagers moved away? If the water was poisoning them this much, why are they still here? Was the early 2000s too early to have a theme of climate refugees? Or the pollution equivalent? That would have been more interesting than this.
I hated this. Why isn't this the episode that gets hated on like the Great Divide? Its sins are nothing compared to this.
Doc, Shu, and Bushi were the only good thing in this episode, but they weren't enough to make this one remotely rewatchable.
One out of Three so far on season three episode quality. No other season has had this bad a ratio this early. This does not bode well for the rest of this season.
heheheheheh re6 vampirehunter!leon meeting vampire!user and he’s like so cocky and arrogant only to be absolutely ruined and submissive to vampire!user i’m giggling n twirling my hair
omg anon sorry this took so long to answer i had to wait until my brain was working again but like. wow. love this concept!! i feel like i might have seen this before i think it might have been a cai bot??? not sure but whatever the case u are so big brain
i lowkey kinda hate this but i hope u don't lol
his whole life he's been taught to kill a vampire on sight, no exceptions. they kill innocent people!! and steal their blood!! so obviously being the selfless hero that leon is, he takes up the role as a vampy hunter and tries to keep his village safe. he's killed dozens of vampires in his life, keeping his family and friends safe. he doesn't care that it's a risky profession. he has people to protect.
but when he hears rumors of a vampire living on the outskirts of town, in an abandoned building that no one dared to enter, he knew it was his job to take care of this vampire.
and yet he goes to find them and they are just absolutely not what he expected. most vampires try to be all sultry and seductive to distract him, or some become violent right away. but this one, you, just spoke to him like a regular person.
"stay where you are," he says, his silver dipped knife to your throat.
'come now, human boy. let's not good too ahead of ourselves' the last one had said to him. they taunted him, tried to seduce him.
"i don't understand why you are after me. i haven't killed a human in... hundreds of years," you say to him, letting him keep you in a vulnerable position. there's this air of arrogance to you that leon can't help but despise.
"you're a vampire."
"and yet, you humans only seem to come after me."
"i am not going to be swayed with words," he scowls, "you're a monster."
"then why haven't you killed me yet?" you tilt your head back to gaze at him, glaring to be more precise, but you weren't planning on him being so attractive. when did human men get so pretty?
he blinks, almost confused. he expected a bit more effort to get away, but it almost seemed like you knew he wouldn't.
and, for some reason he can't describe, he eventually releases you, and you immediately struggle for the knife, throwing it to the other side of the room, and within a millisecond he's underneath you, your glaring red eyes peering down at him. he's not showing it, but he's petrified.
"this is... much more comfortable," you chuckle.
"wait, shit, i'm sorry, please don't..." he stuttered. poor thing, he's actually scared.
your fangs are inches away from his neck and he seem to be begging with his eyes for you to please, oh god please have mercy on him. he looks so ripe for the taking, it would be so easy to pierce his skin with your fangs and just... just ruin him. leave his body a lifeless corpse... or potentially make him like you. that would be a perfect irony, wouldn't it? a vampire hunter being turned into a vampire? how tragic.
he can't help the sob that escapes him, "please, i- i don't want to die.." he cries.
and you know what? maybe he's doing it to get your guard down, feed your ego. i mean, he obviously knows yours is large. and yet... some part of you thinks it's not an act, that he's genuinely scared. but whatever the case, it does feed your ego.
"will you be good, human?"
he nods, desperately, afraid for his life. and when you get off of him, and offer him a hand to get back up, he doesn't know whether to be wary or grateful, or both.
your arrogance makes you... hard to get along with, but leon can tell you're much more powerful than any of the vampires he's killed in his entire life.
but he supposes you're not completely awful. you didn't kill him. you let him escape the first time, clutch his sliver knife to his chest as he ran out of your home. you eye him cautiously. something in you.... liked that human boy.
he returns again, this time to apologize. he felt the need to kill you because you were a vampire even though you weren't threatening anyone. you were oddly docile for such a scary, and insanely powerful vampire. you were truly nothing he'd seen before.
this time, though, he doesn't hold a knife to your neck, instead just nervously wandering around the place you have made your home. it's almost sad to him how lonely you must be.
in any case, even a human man trying to kill you counts as company, so you haven't been completely against his presence in your life.
plus, when you finally do end up seducing him, as he knew you would. he's incredibly pliable, somewhat nervous, and while obedience doesn't seem to come easy to him, you make it easy for him.
andddddd then u proceed to fuck his brains out until he can't do anything but lie there uselessly while you suck the blood out of his body but i digress.
you obvi try not to kill him when you take his blood but he's so yummy!! how could you not!! such a delicious little human.
There's Something About Ordon Village
Another late summer's day on the ranch, the country lifestyle has really made an impression on you.
Link x Fem Reader Insert | F/M | Twilight Princess | 18+ Smut | 4.3K Word Oneshot
Before reading
o 2nd person AFAB reader insert, no gender-specific language. o Link talks, dialogue is based on/inspired by the manga; I put a lot of thought into how he’d act (but I also have the combined IQ of about 23 hamsters so idk.) o Takes place about 5 years after the main plot of Twilight Princess. o The main character is from TP’s version of Lurelin Village in BotW/TotK, past the Gerudo desert → That means this is written from the perspective of someone who hasn’t seen the plot from the hero’s POV. o 🚨18+ Content🚨
Days like this are hard to explain to someone who's not from a place like Ordon. It's a certain kind of tranquillity that you can only reach from years of rapport, decades of responsibility and camaraderie. The rhythm follows the same as the day before, steady and familiar. Thoughts wander through your consciousness like so many leaves on a winding river. Forgettable and memorable in equal measure. On days like this, the village is quiet. Like everyone had come to some predetermined agreement to communicate in nods and smiles, stowing any conversation for another day. Everyone’s needs are known and handled before the thought to ask even arises, even the weather obeys the silent commitment. It's the perfect time to sit in and watch the ranchhands at work.
None of them seemed to mind when you'd come sit up here, they don't often notice either. You've clearly become a regular enough fixture of the landscape to no longer be a figment of curiosity to the livestock. Sometimes you’ll bring a book, other times you'll do some weaving or sewing; it's quiet enough to be alone, all while not being too terribly isolated. Wispy clouds rarely blot out the sun that basks your skin in a warm blanket and illuminates the scent of evergreens beyond this quiet paddock.
There's usually a schedule for who's ranchhand each day, and it seems like Link's been picking up Fado's slack lately. Not that he seems to mind. Fado says Sera needs help at the shop, Sera says he’s just lazy. Like these things always go, the truth is probably in the middle. Part of you always loves it when Link is taking the shift, sometimes he'll bring one of the village kids to shadow him. It's like you're learning along with them, all while sparing yourself from the backbreaking work. Sure, Fado is a good teacher, but they always listen to Link more. They adore him, practically nipping at his heels wherever he goes. Saucer eyes watch him as if he might evaporate into thin air if they lose sight of him for even a moment.
Today, Link is handling the ranch, today's pupil had long since turned in for the day. He takes to the saddle like he was born to it. Sweeping like a breeze through the paddock with the commanding presence of a Clydesdale, his face is the image of tranquillity. He seems like the quintessential dreamy village boy that you read about in those cheap romance books they sell by the fortune teller in Castle Town. But he's the real thing. It makes you wonder what he's doing stowed away down here in the country.
A familiar white mane emerged from behind a hill, the cyan-blue coat of a yearling tucked under the arm of the familiar rider. The poor thing must've wandered off, swept off its hooves and returned to the comfort of the herd by an all-knowing rancher. How easy it must be to be an Ordonian goat, have every need patiently tended to. He slipped from the saddle with catlike ease, gently lowering the youngster to its mother who nonchalantly trotted to greet it. Even when he makes the work look easy, it's still a physically demanding job that commands daily strain. A thin layer of sweat makes suntanned skin catch the lowering sunlight on his bare shoulders.
His gaze flashed toward your direction, returning a weak smile as he approached. Your chest tightened. He often left his horse to graze as she pleased, releasing the reins to her. They both knew that no matter how far she’d wander, she always came back; often, only a rhythmic whistle would kick her into a sprint in his direction. Those two have some sort of spiritual bond; twice now you've seen him round up the livestock bareback, his input often redundant. For reasons beyond your understanding, you posed as if you were looking up from being otherwise occupied, lifting your gaze from a book that you hadn't read a word of in half an hour.
He came to find a space in the grass beside you, resting his forearms on bent knees. Every other time you'd been up here when he's working he'll come up and sit with you. Sometimes he'll ask how your day was, sometimes he's just sitting in sheer silence, just basking in the setting sun amid a long day’s work.
Around this time of day, distant frogs start to peep, those heralds of the nighttime stir in their ponds down by the village. From there the fireflies start to arouse, lighting up thick ferns along the treeline, and the nighttime wildlife assumes its station. Like Link’s duties as a farmhand, these creatures assume daily tasks too. A steady, reliable clock that's been followed for thousands of years, and thousands of years to come.
"Y'know… I never really asked you but, why did you leave Lurelin?" His voice cut the silence like a warm knife through butter.
"I've been here for months and you never thought to ask?"
"Didn't want to pry," he shrugged, taking a long blade of grass between his teeth.
"After the Twilight, everything was different. Sure, we were safe from the curtain, but the people changed. They were meaner, jaded. I think a lot of people just couldn't wrap their heads around the fact that we were really safe from evil," you felt his eyes on you as you lamented, the words just kept coming. "It's hard for people to go back to caring about others when they'd spent months wondering if they'll make it the next morning after another Moblin raid."
Your words settled in the air to create a steady silence, only rippling waves on a motionless pond of his presence. While the conversation reached a melancholic calm, the surrounding woods were alight with song. Birds began their last act in one final crescendo, a soaring hawks chwirk to one another in a call to their mate. All over a constant chorus of bleats and huffs from the regular livestock, it's not strictly true to say Ordon is a quiet place to live.
"Since' we're asking questions, why did you stay in Ordon? You did all that and just went back to normal afterward?"
"The people here are genuine, they look out for each other. They're all like my family. And also-" You watched him mull over his words as if he was tasting them in his chops. "It's kind of all I know. I never cared about my reputation, the glory, none of it."
White sunlight tipped into amber as the evening approached, your eyes trailed along a winding wooden fence along the grass' perimeter. You fidgeted with a piece of grass you drew, folding and tying it in an unknowable pattern. A smirk cracked your face, and the caress from a cool breeze emboldened you to share your burning challenge.
"I don't believe you."
"Pshht" air slips past his teeth in exasperation, he blinked slowly at the horizon.
"You killed the demon king, freed the world from the Twilight- the entire Kingdom kissing your boots. The realm was in your debt, you could've had gold, castles, hell, you could've married the princess - could've become king. You could've bought Ordon, could've made it a new Hyrule Castle."
"I never asked for glory or even acknowledgement at all for what I did… I just- I think I just really wanted things to go back to normal, back to when it was simple."
"And did your dream come true?"
"Yes and no, the village kids are safe and I'm back on the ranch… but the kids are growing faster every day," there was a melancholy in his tone, as proud as he might sound. "Ilia's set up in Kakariko, Malo's there too. Rusl n’ Uli's baby was born, but I think Colin's most excited about not being at the bottom of the pecking order now."
"Y'know there are some people that don't believe in this whole hero thing at all," you sighed, it made him huff a soft chuckle.
"Is that so," he spoke, low and frivolous.
"They say it's a fairytale parents tell their kids to get them to go to sleep- make them think there's an order to the world," your words made him stir with an emotion you couldn't detect, only pensively rubbing the back of his hand. "Or that it's made up by the royal family to keep people compliant, that the royal bloodline is special or whatever."
He nodded along to your allegation, a conspiracy theory, really. The kind of thing people with too much time on their hands and spite in their hearts conjure up. The kind of thing you came here to get away from. In truth, you didn't even know that the so-called hero was from here, for all you knew he'd married the princess and lived a life of luxury. But he's different, it's intriguing. Rolling hills with proud evergreens lining a thick wilderness were the obvious choice over a life of servants and grovelling city folk.
"What do you believe?" His voice reached an octave that rattled in your bloodstream, low and smooth.
"Do I believe some country bumpkin could kill the King of Evil and save us from some horrible doom?" A sneer that manifested on your lips, plucking that piece of grass on his lips between your fingers, he barely seemed to notice, only dreamily watching the sky. "I'll take your word for it."
"It was tempting, the power," the words make his forehead wrinkle in thought. "But power corrupts people, makes them behave not like themselves. Hearing people cheer my name at parades, it was so odd. I didn't like it."
You lean back on your forearms, studying his expression and digging for meaning. It's an easy enough reason to grasp, but that's the thing. There's a darkness to his words, the kind of sternness that comes from experience.
"How benevolent of you," you smirked, eyelids falling heavy. You put that same grass between your teeth, the taste bitter on your lips.
"I'm not-" he seemed to have caught himself mid-sentence, truncating some elaboration. "You're trying to rile me up, it's not gonna' work."
"I think it already has," the words croaked from your throat, flowing off your tongue before you had the chance to censor them. "Besides- I think you like it.”
He shifted in his posture, turning to plant his near hand beside you and bridging much of the distance between you. In an act of spite or otherwise, he'd tossed the strand of grass from your lips in a weak underhand toss that made a goat stop and consider the object with its snout. It didn't stop a certain humour from registering in his eyes. He leaned in and your blood ran chilled with anticipation, smelling his pale skin as his body heat approached. He smelled like trees and goat milk soap, musk and leather.
For a moment the world was still, quiet. No birds, no bleats, silence hung in the air. Heavy branches held their ripe apples, captivated by your exchange. Before you knew what was where, warm skin under your cautious fingertips melted into your palm, your exploring hand taking an expedition across broad shoulders. Thick, scratchy cloth with lazy stitches across their hems gave way to more skin. Across his bicep, muscles warped and body heat intensified, your eyelids drifted closed. Foreign breath ghosted across your bottom teeth.
Your lips touched and it felt like lightning in your chest, carnal thirst for each other's blood substituted by cautious movements. Part of you felt the timidness in his movement as if you'd open your eyes to see him a visage of bashfulness. You leaned in against soft lips that met yours, digging your fingers into his bicep, spurring him closer. He obliged, shifting his body weight all while you impressed further. Suddenly he shifted as if to withdraw, you dug deeper. Again, he withdrew, and you were left like a canoe without a paddle.
"Not here," his tone a soft murmur, barely above a whisper.
"No? Seems romantic," your words failed to get his attention, his gaze lingered on the winding wooden fence-gate on the far end of the pasture.
"No," he started, but you wouldn't let him finish.
"It's more exciting, don't you think," a finger on his chin dragged his face back to meet you. "Out here in the field, in the open, under the sunset."
"Someone might see."
"That's the danger of it all," you breathed, but boldly cut you off in retaliation.
"I'm not scared of danger," a knowing flicker of mischief lit up his eyes for a moment before sobriety stymied the thought. "C'mon, let's go- let's go to the barn."
His voice was smooth and low like warm honey, part of you wondered if he knew how that tone would affect you. It made your mind so hazy you didn't even notice an upturned palm to guide you upright.
"What happened to not caring what others think of you," you held steadfast, testing the limits of his patience as a smile pulled at your cheeks.
You got to watch the words register on his expression as he rose to his feet. At first, he blinked in confusion. Then he must have considered your challenge, turning to stand in a way that blocked your view of the setting sun. He lazily pushed his hair out of his face with raking fingers, you tilted your chin to look up at him.
"Here’s the thing," he turned before you, planting a foot on either side of your lounged ankles, "you're in my ranch. And I have a knack for getting misbehaving critters to go where I want them to."
"Oh is that what you'll do," manifesting your calmest tone. "Ride me down on your horse, whoop and holler and whip your lasso until you round me up?"
His body language spoke for him. He's nothing if not intimidating, the way amber sunbeams splay around his silhouette made him look like a Golden Goddess descending unto you. Reluctantly, you raised your palm to meet his, and he effortlessly raised you to meet him. As polite as the gesture was, he hardly offered you much time to brush the grass off the back of your dress before he led you to the painted barn. You'd left your book behind, you realized. Hopefully a goat doesn't eat it, but frankly, you'll have to take that risk.
Beady eyes linger on you. Onlooking livestock lifts their heads from the grass as you pass, considering your presence, but carelessly returning to their grazing. Maybe they can sense the heat in your chest, your rapid pulse. Perhaps they taste your wicked thoughts in the late summer breeze, knowing which of them involve their master. Maybe, maybe not. More likely they're not thinking about much at all, just the next possible meal they can scrounge for and enjoying the autumn sun. You were practically skipping, it's like the ground was rising to meet you with every step. Anticipation burned in your chest as the sturdy gate groaned to welcome you inside.
This barn is worn and honed, with years of tender care and thoughtful woodwork. Sturdy crossbeams and thick wooden pillars have kept generations of prized Ordon goats in fine fettle. A community's labour, spotlessly cleaned and attended. It's a marvel of handcrafted ingenuity, the pride of the village. This place is cleaner than many people's homes, but the splendour must have been lost on your company.
In an instant he was all over you. You'd barely found time to catch your breath before his mouth enclosed around yours, eagerly resuming their previous meeting. Resistance against your back meant you'd met one of those sturdy wooden pillars and he cornered you in. A warm hand at the small of your back, a relentless onslaught on every inch of exposed skin. Soft hair brushed against the side of your cheek the more he leaned over you. Even when they move with a desperate thirst there's still a kindness to his hand’s grip, he pressed himself against you like the missing puzzle piece.
"Maybe your magical powers will rub off on me, what boons might I get for sleeping with the legendary hero?" You murmured, seizing a newfound opportunity.
He laughed into your mouth, your lips parting only barely as he dipped back over you.
"Can't sleep yet, there's work to do," he smothered the conversation with another persistent kiss.
"Maybe the light spirits will split the sky and bless me," you gasped.
There was a strange delight in mocking him, riling him up with reminders of his auspicious status as a hero. He was so keen to dismiss it all and some part of you felt like he secretly occasionally enjoys the worship, as humble as he might want to come off as. And maybe it's your way of saying thanks for his sacrifice, his courage. Or perhaps you just like seeing someone so sickeningly sweet squirm. Well, not so sweet anymore. Searing fingertips trailed up and down your spine, daring to bunch more of your skirt in his fist.
"Oh the hero in green," you raised your voice in a mimicking tone, reciting the cries of fawning Castle Town citizens "Link has saved us all."
"Shh," he cooed, silencing you with another crashing kiss.
But you felt him smile, laughing at your mockery.
Before he had the time to silence you or give you some snide remark you bit down on his lip. He flinched, grinding to a halt as the playful nip didn't seem to compute for him at first. Another bite and your hips swayed against his. Firm resistance met you, his hands shifted in unison to your hips, keen to pursue that motion. There's a mischief under that innocence. He feigns like he's this sweet country boy who blushes and simpers politely at flirtatiousness, but there's more to him than that mask he wears. He likes the mocking, pestering jabs you make, no matter how he might act like he'll brush them off.
With a shift in movement and weight, you stepped into him, softly grappling his shoulders and pushing. He lightly fell onto the stack of hay behind him, pink cheeks and lips warmed the colouring of tanned skin from days of work in the hot sun. As much as you might like to think otherwise, he only permitted you this control—out of politeness or otherwise. Every part of you knew picking you up and throwing you would be nothing to this man. You'd heard the legend of him besting armoured men thrice his size, a whirlwind of steel and green. Tale of him challenging Gorons barehanded, swinging a hundred-pound iron ball like it's nothing. Hell, you'd seen him firsthand stop a charging goat dead in its tracks. His letting you push him on his back into a pile of yellow hay is only an illusion he's allowing you to believe.
But as your lips part and he's on the ground before you, an uncharacteristically devilish grin dances across his expression. Your tongue ran heavy as he dragged his thumb below the blue sash that ran across his waist, dragging up the border of white cloth to lift his shirt. Legs kicked slightly apart, lifting his shirt to reveal a chiselled abdomen for you to touch. He knew what he was doing, and you'd be remiss if you didn't acknowledge the sting of warmth that clutched your core.
You both knew what was at stake, a lowering sun and basking the countryside in amber light would mean Fado would want to see the goats brought in any minute. It made this unexpected encounter ever more exciting, urgent, necessary. Neither of you had the liberty of having the time, or patience to fully undress. He loosened the rest of his sash, lifting his shirt over his shoulders as your knees buckled, collapsing around him. You'd barely had time to kick off your undergarments, haphazardly grabbing fistfuls of a scratchy dress' skirt. Blue eyes drifted down to your figure, collapsing into his lap. He sighed as your weight connected with his, already delighting in the friction.
Years of life on this farm left warm muscles curving and contouring his form, only then did you clue into a handful of white scars that scattered across his skin. Your consideration was cut short, though definitely not from a sense of bashfulness. The way he grabbed the back of your neck could be argued to be aggressive, but you both had a similar urgency, and your lips were sloppily colliding again. It felt good to be over him, there's a thrill in having him captured between your knees, and how his breath deepens whenever you'd drag yourself over the sturdy bulge in his lap.
This steady friction you developed could spark a fire in this dry hay for all you knew, heat and butterflies formed a steady inferno in your gut. A hand on the back of your hair kept you grounded in his reach. His tongue lashed again yours, hot lips colliding and drawing in a soulful rhythm you'd developed. Like a spur in a horse's flank, stern fingertips urged the back of your thigh closer, you gathered that was your cue to hurry up already.
Soft skin was electric with heat, you gasped against another crashing kiss, fingers tightening around your hair as your fingers dragged lower. What felt like scars peppered his rippling abdomen, for a second a twang of sorrow struck your chest. Quickly overridden, a palm struck your rump in an unexpected crack of pain. He looked pleased by your surprise like he'd finally shed that illusion of an innocent do-gooder farmhand. With renewed fury, you made quick business of unfurling the rest of his clothing.
His cock sprang free, but you didn't get a chance to get a good look as it was shielded by layers of fabric from your skirt. The eager tip is easily aligned with your entrance, guided by your thumb. Slick heat lowered into him, and the initial entrance made your forehead wrinkle from the unfamiliar pressure. But you quickly adjusted, and he entered you fully with lifted hips. Your fingers fumbled for grip, finding soft brown hair in your knuckles as you ground yourself onto him. He groaned, and your spine flexed. Sweet spit danced over your tongue from the exertion, hanging agape and crying softly.
He wants to grip your hips and urge your tempo on his lap like reins as if he weren't the metaphorical steed in this instance. Your core began to aching with with a feverish, achy warmth that made you gasp and cry when he'd pull you back down onto him. He filled you up just right, just enough that you'd winge from strain whenever he'd take a moment to savour the feeling of being buried to the hilt.
Sweat beaded on brown strands across his forehead, down his pale jaw that fell open from his panting. Fluttering eyelids strained to hold eye contact with you as you rode him harder, feeling him twitch and fumble beneath you. Your own ache came on hard and fast, a sternness overtook you and your hands planted on either one of his shoulders, locking him into place. His eyes widened, captivated by your intensity, steely blue and full of fire. Another slap on your flank, you could barely contain yourself.
Your skin slid against his, warm and dewy and fierce like a summer storm. The building intensity in your core from his rutting cock made you sway back in ecstasy. You could almost hear his breathy groans under your whimper, he gripped you hard. Cascading sparks released through every heartbeat, muscles across his abdomen flexed as he bucked up against you. Pulsing seed spilled into you, clutching your waist as if you'd even dream of lifting from his lap just yet. His groans were so sweet, he shuttered with ecstasy as his face softened and grinding steadied.
Part of you couldn't imagine separating from this moment. Just panting, suddenly feeling the presence of the late summer breeze ghost over your skin, a consequence of a steadying internal temperature. Gravity collapsed and you found yourself plummeting into him, he caught you against his shoulder, he easily slipped from within you.
Under your temple his heart was still thundering, his Adam's apple flexing as he halted his gasping to gulp. A mist of sweat made his chest glint in the lowering sun that soon would promise starlit darkness. Your muscles eased, worry faded, sinking into a relaxation that wrapped your limbs into his. A gentle caress on your shoulder slid down your spine and back, tender and kind.
"Do you feel any supernatural powers?" He mocked, voice husky and deep.
You exhaled in a chuckle, his chest rattled in laughter under your laze. He'd earned that cheap shot at your earlier implication. The supernatural feeling you felt didn't come from any mythological being, but a forgiving, humming, post-orgasmic bliss that settled deep in your bones. But he’d come to deserve much worse for suddenly stripping you of an ocean of body heat, but you already knew what he'd say in response. All the while his arm reached to grab his white tank, gently slipping his arm from beneath you. It's cruel, really. To assume you were finished with enjoying him. Maybe he knows, maybe he's about to invite you to his house, spend precious few hours of sleep together before a new dawn brings new responsibilities. Maybe he'll toss you under his arm like that young goat he returned and let you worship him for hours. But alas, his work commands him to bring the precious livestock indoors, distant coyotes’ yipping serving as a sobering reminder.
"You're right, I didn't go to the parades only because I didn't want the limelight," aligning the rest of his clothing as he spoke, shifting to a crouch as he buckled a clasp at his shoulder.
You sat up in intrigue, propping yourself on your forearm in the hay bale that suddenly grew more uncomfortable by the second.
"The truth is," he continued, "I just plain don't like cities."
The inspiration for this fic was singlehandedly brought to you by a single piece of fanart that quite literally permanently altered the trajectory of my life. I couldn’t find the original artist from reverse image search, all I know is it’s from 2014. If anyone knows the artist I’d love to tag them. This was my procrastination piece to get away from the fact that a bunch of people are expecting me to finish my 200,000+ word CoD Ghost x Reader fic. I <3 dodging responsibilities and obligations !!!!!! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it! If people liked this I might make more one-shots, we'll see.
The Final Promise₊˚✩⊹
Chapter 10
Linked Universe x reader
Warnings: Angst, tension, violence
₊˚✩⊹
Wars knew you were special, after all you were the one person in the group who wasn’t Hylian, much less some prophetic hero. But he knew you were more, your visual differences were just the top layer of your peculiarity.
At first, he was very wary of you and your presence. The hours spent examining you and talking to Time about your situation left him lost and frustrated beyond relief. You were strange, and he didn’t like it. He wanted to be nice, of course, he understood the fear and uncertainty you were feeling about the group, as he reciprocated the same feeling toward you: uncertainty and distrust.
Initially, he was hoping that you’d find your way home after a few weeks or months, brushing it off as another lost soul needing guidance and a hero’s promise. But that goal didn’t last long as it was over a year, bordering a year and a half and so much had happened. He felt like… the group wasn’t complete without you, as much as he hated to admit that.
You made the journey feel less depressing and burdensome. Every day was new and undiscovered with you, whether it be a new piece of your own life uncovered to them or a new joke you used, he was in awe.
…
He needed to tell you how he felt, and he wanted to as soon as you left the inn, giving himself an excuse to follow because you might be in danger. When he saw the Vet being there, he stilled. This was not the plan.
He watched the entire scene go down, wincing at your sharp tone, hoping nobody else woke up from that. A person or two shuffled in their sleep, but no one work up. Next thing he saw was you on Legend’s lap, both of you lost in each other.
He should have been happy for you two, Hylia knows Vet needed someone for ages. She owed him something for all the shit he’s been through… but why did it have to be you? Sweet, kind, beautiful you?
And… didn’t you already have something going on with Time and/or Twilight? Even possibly Sky?
Was this a ruse? Surely you wouldn’t be the type, no, you were smarter than that.
Right?
~
“And you’re sure this will work?” Time asked Wild.
Wild was readjusting his facial covering, sighing with annoyance, “For the last time, I’ve done this tens of times before. All I need from you and the rest of the group is to sit still at the Oasis while Y/n and I go talk to Riju in Gerudo Town. It’ll draw way too much attention if all of us come in, even if we got vai garb for you.”
“Right… how long do you think you both will take?”
“We should be back at the Oasis a little after sundown. We’ll take sand seals to get to the village, so the majority of the day will be spent talking to the Chief.”
Time nods, “Just be cautious, you never know who can pass the guards, even something as heavily guarded as Gerudo Town. I’d know.”
While Wild was talking to the old man, You were fastening your supplies onto your sash, going through your checklist of supplies.
You fidgeted with your necklace, tracing the Hylian insignia to calm you down.
Why the hell were you so nervous?
“You’re nervous.” Four stated, eyeing your necklace. You hum.
“We’ll be right here the entire day, waiting for you. Just stick with the Champion and you’ll be fine.” You nod, seems simple enough to follow.
With a few waves and nods, you and Wild were off on your Sand Seals, being the most efficient and quick way to reach Gerudo Town.
The wind was refreshing, despite the sun beating its rays down upon you, as if it was trying to test your limits of heat. Wild was practically showing off, doing twists and hops, just laughing at his own antics. You’ve shield surfed before, but having the extra pull and momentum gave an extra edge to the thrill.
Wind would love this. You’d have to show him when you got back that night.
Before you knew it, you and Wild approached Gerudo Town, handing off the reigns to a merchant and heading towards the two guards stationed in front of the main entrance.
“What is your reason of being here?” she asked, voice deep.
Wild looked at you, reminding you that you were the main spokesperson for today.
“Ah- right. We have an appointment with Chief Riju?”
The two guards give each other a glance before letting you in, your shoulders releasing the tension the second you passed the threshold.
Wild led you forward, pointing out a few stalls that you’d both check out later as he needed to restock on a few ingredients anyways. You saw a few jewelry and clothing stalls, and even a tattoo parlor that seemed brand new. You didn’t remember seeing it when you played through the game.
You felt Wild clasp your hand in his, leading you up the stairs to the throne room. You could hear a few voices talking, no doubt something related to your meeting.
“Ah! Link! There you are. And this must be your friend, Y/n. I’ve heard so much about you!” Riju exclaims, already making her way towards you.
You panicked, bowing to her, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Chief Riju.”
She waves her hands, “Oh please! There’s no need for such formalities, any friend of Link’s is a friend of mine. Please, just call me Riju.”
You stand up straight, nervously fumbling with your necklace again, a clear indicator that you were not the best at being social. How was Wild being so nonchalant?
“We came for the… updates. You mentioned in your letter something about the desert ruins and possibly the Yiga Clan?”
Letter? Wild never mentioned a letter-
“Ah, yes! Follow me, I have some information in my study. I sent you the letter months ago, but there’s been some developments…” she trailed off, leading you both to her room.
You gave him a look.
Why was everyone keeping things from you? First Legend now Wild…
What else do you not know?
“Like I was saying, we’ve found some old artifacts sticking out from the remains of the Arbiter’s Grounds. It doesn’t serve much purpose to us, but we thought you could take a look and see if its anything you might be booking for or might help.”
Riju handed Wild a flat object covered in a beige tarp. He untied the loose knot, uncovering the black slab of rock with familiar markings on it.
“That’s a piece of the Twilight Mirror. How…”
Riju looks at you, “Ah, so you do know what it is! I presumed it had something to do with the Twili tribe but I wasn’t sure. I should’ve known you would have found it familiar, after all you’re the hero’s guide.”
You hum, you were still getting used to the title. It didn’t sit right with you that people regarded you in such a high manner. It was unnatural, considering your background.
“Did you see any other possible artifacts or pieces of the mirror? The rest couldn’t have gone far.”
Riju sighs dejectedly, “No, unfortunately. The research team scouted out the ruins high and low and even dug under a few feet, but nothing came up. There were some markings on the old columns, but nothing noteworthy.”
She pauses for a moment before turning back to Link, “However, the Yiga Clan showed up halfway through the research, though not in a hostile manner. At least, not towards us. Toward Link, Y/n, and your group, rather. They mentioned something about hooded figures entering their hideout demanding your guide.”
Wild stiffens at that and turns to you, “Weren’t those the figures you were reading about?”
You nod. Shit, you left the book back at the Oasis. You always manage to forget something.
“Chie- Riju, did the Yiga mention anything about the hooded figures? Did they look peculiar or mention anything of importance?”
Riju thinks for a moment.
“One of the Yiga members did mention they wore full-length black robes, and had masculine voices. They also said one threatened a clan member using Fae magic, though Fae magic is almost unheard of, at least in this time period. I can’t offer much information right now, as I didn’t directly talk to the member, but I can corroborate with one of my guards that went on the short expedition and write down notes to mail to you.”
“That would be really helpful, thank you Riju.” Link states.
“Do you mind if we hold onto this mirror shard? It's small enough for us to travel with and it might prove to be useful in our… travels.” There was no easy way to put interdimensional and time travel into casual conversation, but Riju got the meaning behind his words.
“Yes, of course. I suggest wrapping it up in a tarp or cloth as this material is very peculiar and we don’t know what it's capable of.”
Link rewrapped the mirror shard, storing it in his Sheikah Slate. You’d have to examine it later, maybe take a closer look at the hieroglyphics if you can.
“I’ll have the guards escort you out, as I have a few more meetings to get to with a few ambassadors from outside of the desert. It was wonderful meeting you, Y/n. I do hope we meet again soon,” she said with a smile. You thanked her, waving goodbye as you and Link made your way back to the main plaza.
“I’m gonna go stock up on a few things. You can go look around if you want, just don’t leave without me.”
You nod wordlessly, meandering about the main square as you examine all sorts of wares. You didn’t have the chance to get a ton of rupees in a while, so you were a bit tight on what you could get, but you bought a small ruby ring for a certain bunny, as a small thanks for being vulnerable with you. It was nothing compared to what you wanted to verbally express to him, but it was just a small symbol of trust and appreciation.
Stuffing the ring into your pouch, you keep walking around the town, munching on a piece of Hydromelon. It was in season, so the flavors were bursting on your tongue.
You made your way around a corner, finding it to be a dead end. You were about to turn around to make your way back to the main square before someone wrapped their hand around your mouth, cutting off your terrified scream. Before you had the chance to blink, paper fluttered in front of your eyes, masking your vision.
All that was left in your place were a few, red paper rectangles, signaling a Yiga clan member had trespassed Gerudo walls: an invasion.
~
The sun had set almost two hours ago and the chain was starting to get on edge.
“They’re taking too long.”
“They should’ve been here by now. Where are they?”
The younger members were starting to pick up on both of your absences, thoughts already assuming the worst. Wild was capable of handling his safety, but you? As much as they liked to think you’ve gotten experience and plenty of training from each of them, you could have been harassed, cornered, kidnapped, killed-
Everyone snapped their heads to the sound of violent panting, already knowing its Wild.
Wars ran up to him, gripping his arm to support Wild.
“Where is she, Wild. She should’ve been with you-”
“-They took her.”
You know, I was just thinking about the UA entrance exam.
Specifically, how terribly designed it is, but not for the reason they seem to give in the story itself.
Like, here's how it is: Aizawa is shown criticising the UA Entrance Exam once, during the Sports Festival. And the ONE criticism he makes, is that the use of Robot enemies during the exam would disproportionately affect people whose Quirk work against biological opponents, essentially.
His one criticism, is that the exam is not designed to also cater to people like him, and that's it. The way therefore it's set up, it'd be logical to assume he'd ask for a restructuring to the exam to remove the Robots and substitute them with live enemies, possibly Ectoplasm clones.
This is never brought up again, aside from maybe a stealth bring up during the mid term exams when they switch the exam from fighting robots to fighting teachers.
The exam is, and I just got to it myself while watching this video about how Copaganda paints police training and the relative risk police officers face on the job, set up in a very specific environment:
An empty town, where what is essentially a murder spree is taking place. The ONLY entities in the place, outside of fellow examinee, are robots that have been literally designed to attack everyone on sight, and that need to be destroyed to pass. The points granted from saving people are hidden, so they can be more "genuine" of course, and are, ultimately, also part of the problem.
Because here's the fucking thing.
When the fuck is that ever going to happen.
When the fuck, is a superhero, after their 5 years of Hero training in high school, then entering the work force without a need for a decree in higher education, ever going to find themselves in an environment where they can use LETHAL FORCE on civilian targets? With no restraint or care for collateral damage?
And where they are ENCOURAGED to kill as many criminals as they can, and NOT collaborate with other heroes? Because that's another thing, you need to steal points from other people to pass, by culling the number of limited robots, much like heroes are paid by the arrest and by popularity.
You do understand how fucked up that starts to sound right? The other, the enemy, is reduced as a caricature Droid from star wars, there only to kill and destroy, and against whom your only TWO methods of defeat are outright destruction or sneak attacks on their off buttons.
And here's the cherry on the shit too, because, AGAIN, when is that EVER going to be the case?
Do you know how many heroes show up in the first villain attack in BNHA?
Five.
Two are engaging a purse snatcher, three are doing crowd control, the Slime Villain, who may I remind you was guilty of robbery at a convenience store before he got the hostage, gets THE NUMBER ONE HERO, as well as those same FIVE heroes involved, of which only BACKDRAFT is actually doing anything.
Now, imagine you are a hero school, and you produce 40 heroes a year, just like every other hero school out there. How many of those heroes will see active duty, if the rate of crimes demand FIVE heroes to react to ONE criminal?
And people will say "but EDS, this mentality is later rewarded when All Might retires and it all falls to shit," Except NOT REALLY, because that's an externally forced situation caused by, and I can't stress this enough, a hundreds of yeas old NEET boomer who read too many Doctor Doom comics as a kid and decided to become a supervillain, the riots, the open air warfare, is only caused by AFO forcing the hand and inciting popular unrest, which is an unrealistic thing to expect off any society.
In one of the movies, Class 1-A is sent to open an hero agency on a small island with barely a village on it. 20 Heroes. Until the movie truly picks up, the best they do is help kittens from trees, and Bakugou, the sort of person for whom the Entrance Exam was designed, is useless, left in his tent like Achilles, the perfect cowboy cop who peeked in highschool and didn't realize just how much paperwork and dead time his dream job actually entailed.
So that's the ACTUAL Issue with the entrance exam. It take no account for any other mean to beat the robots but brute force, it takes no account for collateral damage, or the sanctity of life of your opponents, and it tests nothing but how good at ending lives you are.
Which is a problem when you're picking future heroes.
